crying hours, thread carefully
chani loves her planet, her people, her home, so much. she wants to see it free, healthy. she wants that green paradise silgard and the followers dream of too. imagine how much it pains her to see them waiting for a solution to their problems when they themselves could be it.
chani loves paul so much. "you won't lose me as long as you stay who you are". she is worry of strangers, but this man earned not only her trust and respect but her love as well. imagine her pain when he takes advantage of her people's religion. her pain when he shattered her heart, telling her he loves her still than proposing to irulan.
and imagine her pain when they win and paul doesn't stop there. he starts a holy war with her people as canon meat. a war arrakis (dune) shouldn't be part of because there is nothing in it for them. and not only that, but he promises to marry another stranger. having her people be led by two foreigners who don't – can't – fully grasp their ways. their love and care for dune. their respect for fighters and fighting and their people that goes so far they don't use the dead ones water, no matter how much they'd need it. a war that already took her home (the destruction of the fountains) and it only promises more pain to come.

Anyone still get sad about Encanto or Turning Red?
Like they really hit home with me, like I cry every time at the emotional points. I love these movies, so much I want more of them. They have such a unique style to them. Another film that gets me in the gut is Nimona, a must watch. Also Also WolfWalkers is a good movie! Its animation looks amazing, and the music is top-notch, but also got that family/found family points in it!

The Great Greta Garbo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Glamorous, compelling, and ever so famous was the iconic movie star, Greta Garbo. She graced Hollywood in the 1920s and 1930s with films like “Wild Orchids” and “The Kiss.” Altogether, she starred in thirty-three films and captivated men and women alike.
Greta was born Greta Lovisa Gustafsson on September 18, 1905 in Stockholm, Sweden and died April 15, 1990 in New York City at the age of 84 to pneumonia. Her childhood was that of poverty where her family lived in the slums. Her father was an itinerant laborer and didn’t earn much money to give his family the life he wanted for them to have. When Greta was old enough to work, she took various positions to help ease the strain of supporting the family.
One fateful day, film director Erik Petschler saw Greta and was mesmerized with her beauty after seeing her in a commercial advertising women’s clothing and he offered her a small role in his 1922 film “Peter the Tramp.” She was bitten by the acting bug and she started school at the Royal Dramatic Theater in Stockholm. She landed a major role in a 1925 Swedish movie “Gösta Berlings Saga” (The Saga of Gösta Berling). The director, Mauritz Stiller changed her birth name to Garbo as he felt it was fitting and becoming for her unique beauty. Seeing her potential, he negotiated with MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) Studios in Hollywood and secured her a contract. Louis B. Mayer had doubts about Greta’s screen performance until the release of her first American 1926 film “The Torrent.” Her lustrous glow and the fluidity of how she moved impressed Mayer so much so that he gave her an exclusive contract.
Tumblr media
1930’s “Anna Christie” was Greta’s first sound film. The movie was marketed with “Garbo talks!” She would earn three Oscar nominations for best actress for her performances in “Anna Christie,” “Camille,” and for “Ninotchka.” She never did win, but she did receive an Honorary Academy Award in 1955. She won the New York Film Critics Circle Award for best actress for her performance in 1935’s Anna Karenina. Her last film was “Two-Faced Woman” in 1941 and it received bad reviews that greatly humiliated her. Her acting life halted despite offers for other films after the movie flop.
Greta never married nor did she have children. Her first romance was with her often co-Star John Gilbert. In her latter years, she had a relationship with Leopold Stokowski, conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. It’s rumored that she had an affair with Russian-born millionaire George Schlee, stealing him from his wife. It’s specualted that Greta was bisexual, some would claim she was predominantly lesbian, but no one could confirm that. Though she appeared in events, she disliked the feeling uncomfortable acting like a socialite because it wasn’t who she was.
Tumblr media
Greta would live the remainder of her life in a New York City apartment. She was an honored guest in the White House and She received treatment for breast cancer and would have dialysis treatment at a local hospital where she would later die from pneumonia. She will always be regarded as one of the most beautiful and graceful women that gifted us with her talent.
Until next time, Aloha oe.

I think what made the tbosas film such a mind-blowing experience for me was how naturally the setting of the prequel was interpreted as a 'period piece' on-screen.
The concept of an alternate-universe-period-piece is already a kooky idea, but it genuinely felt like we were looking back into a past time, in the costuming, the technology, even the colour correction. I was just really really impressed with the execution of the idea. It would have been all to easy present everything in the Capitol setting as similar to that of the original films but slightly crustier, but instead they truly thought about origin points for capitol fashion, technology, geography, etc. It just makes the visual transition from the tbosas film to the thg films that more fluid.

i love the movie the piano teacher because it so clearly showcases the difference between fantasy and reality and the dangers of blurring those lines. the main character has very detailed fantasies of being hurt physically and having a man force themselves on her to the point where she will only entertain a relationship with one of her students if they act on these fantasies. only when he actually acts on it, and forces himself on her, you can see the moment she realizes this isn't what she really wants even if she doesn't stop it. she is raped. and she can't process her anguish over the act after he leaves because she did, in fact, ask for it, in this instance. the next day, when the man greets her casually, because in his mind, he finally gave her what she wanted and they're on good terms, she's so overcome with grief she stabs herself in the chest. i think about it alot, because how many of us have fantasies we love to think about but if it was inacted on you, you'd hate it. or think you want something, only to want it gone the second its delivered to you. the importance of letting some of fantasy stay fantasy, is that our brain can't always cope with the things we use to protect ourselves.
there's also an even bigger layer in the movie about the main character wanting all this as a form of self punishment, that she thinks she deserves to be treated this way to the point she's adverse to normal intimacy. but she doesn't actually want to be hurt, or punished. she desires deeply to be loved and accepted, and is betrayed by the trust she'd put in this young man being stomped over. in the end, it wasn't even about indulging her fantasy for her at all, he forced himself on her due to his own anger at not being desired how he felt he should be and feeling of injustice.
just interesting to me !

I just watched the Boy and the Heron, I was wondering if you had watched it as well? If so, what did you think?
I can finally answer this because I watched the movie.
It was very good actually. The animation is so crazy because it’s still clearly Ghibli, but there’s some parts that looked more influenced by modern animation. But they do it WELL. They do it better than WELL. Beautiful. Stunning actually.
I loved the wada wada being unborn souls and I would’ve loved to see that world (time world?? Afterlife world??) be a little more expanded on in that sense. Like at first I thought it was supposed to represent the spiritual plane/afterlife, then I was like oh it’s just a world the Grand Uncle created? Or maybe it’s both??
Also the bird guys were SO silly.
Idk I’m rambling about animated movies again, you can’t stop me. It was beautiful though and I really enjoyed it. Deserves the hype imo.

I remember on the run-up to the release of Harry Styles' 2022 film MY POLICEMAN a critic I followed on Twitter would rave in reminiscence of seeing the love scene at some pre-screening and how revolutionary it was. Then when the film was released he walked back his raves because it wasn't how he remembered it and he admitted to maybe over-egging it because he was so happy to see a a gay love scene.
But here's to films/tv shows that don't over-egg. That don't gas up the sex scenes so that when viewers finally see it they'd be like

Instead they could be pleasantly surprised much like I was when I saw Ira Sach's PASSAGES
Tumblr media
and the Paramount+ limited series FELLOW TRAVELERS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ben Whishaw, I have too much respect for you to nearly stare into your bumhole. I lreserve that for when I'm watching Aaron Taylor-Johnson in SAVAGES.
If only the relationship between Ben and Franz's characters was this wholesome in the film.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Ben is rumoured to be dating his THIS IS GOING TO HURT costar Kadiff Kirwan of MY POLICEMAN and currently in SLOW HORSES and the charming C4 comedy EVERYONE ELSE BURNS (which is airing in the US on the CW).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up for Ben?
Netflix's thriller BLACK DOVES where he will play the longtime confidante of Keira Knightley's Helen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-He has a short film that people are hoping for Oscars consideration, which will be tough when Wes Anderson's quartet of short films
Tumblr media
are out there, but surely it's better than the pair of Pedro Almodovar's short films STRANGE WAY OF LIFE and THE HUMAN VOICE
Tumblr media
I know, Ben. They were just the worst!
Tumblr media
Surely, GOOD BOY will be better.
Tumblr media
What is GOOD BOY about?
"Danny (Whishaw) is a man who attempts to rob a bank with the help of his anarchic mother Jackie (Marion Bailey). But his plans are foiled when confronted by his family doctor outside the bank. What follows is a poignant and original portrayal of grief and desperation."
Tumblr media
-A long ways off is the third installment of the PADDINGTON films. PADDINGTON IN PERU will be released November 2024 in the UK and January 2025 in the U.S. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike Rachel Zegler (THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES) has departed the project. She has been replaced by Gina Cabot of HBO Espana's 30 MONEDAS/ 30 COINS (whose second series is currently airing on Max).

Werewolves in media... More could be done. A rant? A not /neg rant just like a... "I want to see this" sorta rant. SHUSH I know I've made a post like this before but this one has DEPTH!!
I feel like werewolves should be a little something more than the "scary monster people are scared of." Give the poor beast some depth, or a story! tell me a story about someone who is happy with their wolf, embraces it, and isn't the antagonist, nor are they murderers.
Actual wolves aren't thirsty for human blood, and pretty much everyone doesn't have that either, so why would a werewolf? Why would its only drive to be to kill and cause torment? Sure, that could be the result of a magic curse they find themselves under, but.. why can't the story of a werewolf be more than that? What about their animal side? No, not bloodlust, that isn't what being an animal means at all. What about the werewolf wandering the woods, appreciating the moon or sky and the person underneath feeling an ecstasy at the momentary return to nature. What if the wolf was, yes, animal, but still had human aspects? In the mind, I mean. Not just the body. Not enough to talk or have much of a... consciousness? I suppose? but I mean more, again, as in a return to nature.
What if the person inflicted with lycanthropy is at first terrified of what will happen to them, because all they know is the media's (and even religion's) representation of the beasts, but once the inevitable night comes and they transform, they don't turn out to be a vicious monster, but rather... just... an animal. (But yeah please keep them strange man-beast things? that design is really fun. Who would've guessed the furry likes anthro wolves? Classic.)
Idk, sorry for the long one. If anyone knows a piece of media like this, please tell me, I'd love to check it out. One I can recommend is... tsk, this old Nickelodeon movie called The Boy Who Cried Werewolf. It's cheesy but it's not awful! I feel like it's the first time where I really saw werewolves portrayed in a positive light. Yeah, it's got its flaws... Cus it's a kids movie but. Shut up I enjoy it and it's a fun Halloween watch and I'm very nostalgic for it.

ON A POSITIVE NOTE!
ELEMENTAL? AMAZING MOVIE!!! Man! God I loved it holy shit. The chemistry is crazy between the characters and gosh the narrative about Ember being a first generation immigrant is genuinely so well told that I sat my white ass down and watched and listened intently.
I cannot talk about the accuracy as I have never experienced any of what she goes through, but Wade genuinely made me flinch at times because damn yeah this shit is genuinely something a lot of white people do that we don't realize is genuinely harmful and offensive.
But god I wanted to squeeze Ember and Wade in my hands so bad I love these characters help
Watch Elemental!! (or dont thats fine <3)
