yeah, its in the new voiding form they put out (since they got a huge influx of void requests they put it in a form to manage it easier)

seems like tycho isnt crazy about the rule though

The anon talking about Kea has a point… does she actually do anything other than make adopts and customs? I never see her answer questions or help out with other mod tasks, and I’ve been in the server since the beginning. Not to mention she’s near impossible to get a hold of and sucks at responding to DMs if you have a question about her designs/commissions/etc. I can understand being busy or introverted but it’s super unprofessional. They really should just purge what’s left of the old staff and make Kea an official artist instead.

strongly agree here, ive also been in terras since pretty much the beginning and i havent really seen kea have much of a hands on role—which isnt great when youre an admin

i can vividly remember seeing temul, csyd, morgue, and karma be really active in moderating the server and making announcements/posting events, but as for kea the only thing i can think of is adopts. this could be a bit more acceptable if she was just a regular mod and you could say she did background site stuff, but shes an ADMIN

i really think it would be a good idea to scrap most of the team and start new, or push kea to be an official artist instead of an absent admin, but i can understand how that could be incredibly difficult

i hope kea chooses to become an official artist of her own accord, because from a member standpoint it really seems like thats what shes better at

I’m actually in disagreement with this sentiment. I wouldn’t feel very comfortable if someone voided a design I made specifically for a species without permission. If it’s a character that YOU designed, then sure. But if we’re talking about adopts, then that’s a different story. It’s honestly about respecting the original artist’s wishes and comfort level. The sirfluff situation with chams seemed more like heavy entitlement on their end, and they kept pestering several different mods until someone said ‘yes’ because they didn’t want any trouble (but it happened anyway when fluff made a huge stink about it).

Anyway if you can’t void a Terra, just simply make a one-off version of it. I’ve done that with designs I can’t void with no issue. I just don’t use the official /CS design itself.

ehh, i still dont really vibe with this side of the argument

like, with adopts and things it really is more of a product transaction than a piece in an art gallery. if someone owns the character by paying for it, it should be fully theirs.

going back to the mug analogy since its a more tangible and easy to comprehend form of art, if i made a beautiful ceramic mug that was part of a larger “series” of similar mugs that all share the same theme, and sold one of them to someone, that person now can do whatever they want with it. they could smash it in front of me and i cant do anything about it because its not mine anymore. yeah, it might break my heart to see this thing i worked hard on be removed from the collection of other mugs, but thats the price you have to pay when you sell art in this way.

i think that you as the creator should still be able to use the “unvoided” design to showcase your design examples (unless you and the new owner have an agreement to keep it private but thats neither here nor there), but as for the actual design they can do what they want. again, with the mug thing, you should be able to have like a picture of the mug you created to use in your portfolio of beautiful handcrafted mugs, but the buyer still owns the mug they bought.

i feel like if you cant completely disconnect yourself from what a new buyer may use your design for, then you shouldnt be making adopts, which is ok, but a lot of people dont want to have that realization within themself that even though their art can be personal and they can be attached to it, when you sell a design as a product to someone else you have to accept that you have no say over it anymore.

funny thing actually, remember how in my Big Post i was initially chatting with tycho and passing along good suggestions from here?

that actually has continued now that things are (very mildly) settled down now, and i did get to talk with him a bit yesterday about some points i have

(ALSO KEEP IN MIND NOTHING I SAY HERE IS SET IN STONE! the convo mainly consisted of us spitballing and laying out stuff we thought were good ideas)

anyways, he did say he would like to make more use of the official artist role in the future, that way ppl who just wanna make adopts can do so. itd be really interesting to see more mods that want to make improvements to the species and put that at a higher importance than adopts and design work

after that, temul stepped down and a doc was put out apologizing

throughout the whole thing a lot of people left the staff team, its pretty sparse now

tycho is now owner of the server and species, personally i have a lot of faith in him and it seems like theres some people who agree; but some people think that its not worth it to try and even save the species at this point. either way it seems hes really receptive to criticism on how things can go better

Relating to the mod application post i feel like 18 and 19 being labelled as immature as a whole is kind of false in a way? It really depends on the people or how they were raised. Some are actually really mature,and put together(atleast where i live personally) i think instead he should give them personal interviews instead of just a application or they could do a test to see how mature or immature they are. Something like a social experiment test i guess is the only example i have. Or have them list references if theyve modded before. Thats just my take on it though!. You guys do have good points

im mainly going off of previous incidents in terras and basing off of my thoughts on maturity in terras and the art/cs community in general

i dont think it should be a hard line like “no under 25 on the staff team,” but it would be good to have a variety of ages. diversity is awesome when it comes to a team of leaders because it allows lots of different viewpoints and ideas (which is why a lot of people really hated that mods would just be people within the “clique”)

Things Tycho needs to implement for the mod apps:

Please hire fucking adults. Not 19 year olds, please hire some people that are over 21 and have more developed brains. Preferably 25 and up.

Heavily restrict the ability to make mod customs. I know that a LOT of people only want to be staff to be able to make customs, and this isn't a good thing to be able to do right off the bat since Tycho needs mods who want to work, not make money making designs. I think mod customs should not be allowed for at least 6 months AFTER mod trial is over. Work on the species, that's what you were hired to do, not make customs. If you want to make and sell designs, apply to be a GA, not staff.

Mod myos. There's too many mod lim myos floating around and these should not be tradeable. If mods get myos as payment every month, they should get two options. Lim myo, not tradeable. Modified myo, tradeable. They get to choose just one.

Also I think Tycho needs to go through the shambling remains of the staff and get rid of loose ends, like Kea. Kea does absolutely fucking nothing for the species except occasionally vote on staff matters and do transfers, which literally any other staff member can do. All she does is ignore trade offers for her obvious trades that totally aren't entertaining offers, which aren't even allowed btw, and she'll talk about opening up customs to get people to throw themselves at her for her art. She needs to be removed as a staff member and made a GA, since that's what she's best at. Plus she's just conveniently taking a break and ignoring all the work that needs to be done and making Tycho and the other few mods do everything themselves. If Kea can't be a functioning staff member in this moment when we really need them, why do we need her at all? Karma, too. Why are you guys taking a break and making everyone else do all the hard work so you can just come back when it's all over and reap the benefits? You guys suck. Either step up and do your job or quit.

on your first point, it def goes back to the maturity thing for me because, while previous mods and the owners are “adults,” 18 and 19 is still pretty immature (and you can really tell based off of the controversies that have happened just within a year)

on the second, i really think terras should make more use of the “official artist” role. i agree that a lot of mods seem to just sit on their ass and make customs/adopts, which, if you want to just do art then say that!! dont present it like youre gonna actually moderate if ur just pumping out adopts, thats why theres the official artist role

for the third point, i actually think tycho does have plans to mitigate the myo situation (you can see that in the conversation i had with him here), so i think theres gonna be some progress there

on your last point, i agree as well; i think kea especially is one of the people who would benefit from being an official artist instead. she has the admin role but ive literally never seen her be an administrator of anything. doing approvals is something that really anyone can do, and the main thing ive ever seen from kea is customs and adopts. i dont think ive really ever seen her answer questions or design help, and as far as events go the only one shes been visibly a part of is the birthday one that just happened (and honestly if i didnt just go and check right now i would have totally forgotten shes an ADMIN, not just a regular mod)

i think delegation of staff and staff responsibilities is a big thing that needs fixing, since its been an issue basically forever in this species. design and prompts take forever to approve, but when its ever suggested to get more mods it was always “we have enough!” yeah, you have an overabundance of mods that just wanna make fucking adopts and nothing else. just make them official artists and have the mod role for people that can actually work.

Why do i need "permission" to void a terra? I think thats so fucking stupid and its the same problem sirfluff had with chims. This is YOUR character you spend a lot of money on or traded something valuable for said character. You should be allowed to take your character away from an extremely toxic community. I have a terra for Bug and Civ and i dont feel comfortable speaking with them. But i HAVE to get their permission is order to void the terra. Thats SO dumb just let me fucking leave my god why is it so hard

i heavily agree anon, i also think that in general people try to have too much claim over what other people can do with their ocs.

its like, if you sell someone an item, they can do whatever the fuck they want with it now. if you sell someone a mug you took years to hand craft, they could take it home and smash it on the ground if they so pleased.

i used to have the same mindset that a lot of younger people on th do, where they say “dont delete my designs, dont make nsfw with them, dont remove defining characteristics,” but after getting a bit more mature and buying ocs from other people, i started to think of how i would feel if someone else put those restrictions on me. art can be very personal, yes, but at the same time if you sell a character to someone, like any product, they can do whatever they want with that character. its not yours anymore, you dont get a say in it.

i actually answered this a little bit ago here (and i was abt to start tweaking because i couldnt find it lmao)

i dont have anyone particular in mind, but i hope they dont just hire people that chat a lot in the server. i think that maybe they could have some mods who dont actively moderate the server but still do design stuff, site functionality, and other background things since it could mean a better delegation of tasks instead of everyone having to bargain their time since they all have to be active in the server too

I think the super pointed "noses" on some Terra's visors looks awful. I think rounded/somewhat rounded ones or squareish ones are better. The super sharp point just looks really bad to me.

Also: the living parts trait shouldn't require the mouths on body + eyes on body traits just because the living part isn't an animal. It's just another way to force people to either use more items or limit their creativity. What the fuck is the point of the living parts trait if any non-animal part requires months/eyes on body?

id love to see examples of what you mean with the pointed nose thing, i cant really picture it off the top of my head

also yeah, the trait restrictions are so self-contradictory

i really hope they get a severe overhaul in the near future (if tycho manages to get the trainwreck back on the rails)
