Saint Patrick, who lived during the fifth century, is the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland and was credited with bringing Christianity to its people.
In the centuries following Patrick’s death (believed to have been on March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding his life became ever more ingrained in the Irish culture: Perhaps the most well-known legend of St. Patrick is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.
More than 100 St. Patrick's Day parades are held across the United States; New York City and Boston are home to the largest celebrations.
When Was the First St. Patrick’s Day Celebrated?
Since around the ninth or 10th century, people in Ireland have been observing the Roman Catholic feast day of St. Patrick on March 17. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place not in Ireland but in America. Records show that a St. Patrick’s Day parade was held on March 17, 1601 in a Spanish colony in what is now St. Augustine, Florida. The parade, and a St. Patrick’s Day celebration a year earlier were organized by the Spanish Colony's Irish vicar Ricardo Artur.
More than a century later, homesick Irish soldiers serving in the English military marched in New York City on March 17, 1772 to honor the Irish patron saint. Enthusiasm for the St. Patrick's Day parades in New York City, Boston and other early American cities only grew from there.
Growth of St. Patrick's Day Celebrations
Over the next 35 years, Irish patriotism among American immigrants flourished, prompting the rise of so-called “Irish Aid” societies like the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Hibernian Society. Each group would hold annual parades featuring bagpipes (which actually first became popular in the Scottish and British armies) and drums.
In 1848, several New York Irish Aid societies decided to unite their parades to form one official New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Today, that parade is the world‘s oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States, with over 150,000 participants. Each year, nearly 3 million people line the 1.5-mile parade route to watch the procession, which takes more than five hours. Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Savannah also celebrate the day with parades involving between 10,000 and 20,000 participants each. In 2020, the New York City parade was one of the first major city events to be canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; it was again canceled in 2021. The parade in New York and others around the country returned in 2022.
The Irish in America
Up until the mid-19th century, most Irish immigrants in America were members of the Protestant middle class. When the Great Potato Famine hit Ireland in 1845, close to 1 million poor and uneducated Irish Catholics began pouring into America to escape starvation.
Despised for their alien religious beliefs and unfamiliar accents by the American Protestant majority, the immigrants had trouble finding even menial jobs. When Irish Americans in the country’s cities took to the streets on St. Patrick’s Day to celebrate their heritage, newspapers portrayed them in cartoons as drunk, violent monkeys.
The American Irish soon began to realize, however, that their large and growing numbers endowed them with a political power that had yet to be exploited. They started to organize, and their voting bloc, known as the “green machine,” became an important swing vote for political hopefuls. Suddenly, annual St. Patrick’s Day parades became a show of strength for Irish Americans, as well as a must-attend event for a slew of political candidates.
In 1948, President Harry S. Truman attended New York City‘s St. Patrick’s Day parade, a proud moment for the many Irish Americans whose ancestors had to fight stereotypes and racial prejudice to find acceptance in the New World.
The Chicago River Dyed Green
As Irish immigrants spread out over the United States, other cities developed their own traditions. One of these is Chicago’s annual dyeing of the Chicago River green. The practice started in 1962, when city pollution-control workers used dyes to trace illegal sewage discharges and realized that the green dye might provide a unique way to celebrate the holiday. That year, they released 100 pounds of green vegetable dye into the river–enough to keep it green for a week. Today, in order to minimize environmental damage, only 40 pounds of dye are used, and the river turns green for only several hours.
Although Chicago historians claim their city’s idea for a river of green was original, some natives of Savannah, Georgia (whose St. Patrick’s Day parade, the oldest in the nation, dates back to 1813) believe the idea originated in their town. They point out that, in 1961, a hotel restaurant manager named Tom Woolley convinced city officials to dye Savannah’s river green. The experiment didn’t exactly work as planned, and the water only took on a slight greenish hue. Savannah never attempted to dye its river again, but Woolley maintains (though others refute the claim) that he personally suggested the idea to Chicago’s Mayor Richard J. Daley.
St. Patrick's Day Celebrations Around the World
Today, people of all backgrounds celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, especially throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated around the world in locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore and Russia. Popular St. Patrick’s Day recipes include Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage and champ. In the United States, people often wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
In Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day has traditionally been a spiritual and religious occasion. In fact, up until the 1970s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Beginning in 1995, however, the Irish government began a national campaign to use interest in St. Patrick’s Day to drive tourism and showcase Ireland and Irish culture to the rest of the world.
What Do Leprechauns Have to Do With St. Patrick's Day?
One icon of the Irish holiday is the Leprechaun. The original Irish name for these figures of folklore is “Lobaircin,” meaning “Small-bodied Fellow.” Belief in leprechauns probably stems from Celtic belief in fairies, tiny men and women who could use their magica

I love your latest fic! The way you described Arizona's panic attack was so realistic. Just perfect. And I can't wait for the soulmate fic. Could you post a sneak peek or a synopsis?
i'm glad you enjoyed!
here's a little snippet (from both povs!)
(there's also this snippet i posted a while back!)
6 June 2006
Chicago, Illinois
Spinning her grandmother’s ring on her pointer finger, Arizona waited. It felt like it had been hours, when according to her watch, it had only been four minutes. Four agonizing minutes, waiting for her board examiner to wave her in.
One by one others had begun to enter their exams.
This would determine her future. She had offers from Johns Hopkins, Columbia and Seattle Grace. Her parents desperately wanted her to stay on the East Coast. Nick told her to go to Seattle. She could have a fresh start there. It was one of the best programs in the country, top-ranked, the whole nine yards. But New York would be fun too. She loved Johns Hopkins, but there was zero mobility for her there at the moment.
On a whim, she scribbled a note to her soulmate on her palm.
I could do with a bit a luck right about now
A small four leaf clover appeared on her wrist next to her other good luck charm. Arizona grinned down at it.
“Robbins? Robbins?”

1 December 2007
Seattle, Washington
“I hate peds.”
Callie glanced up from her drink to greet Erica, who had all but thrown herself into the booth across from her. “Hi to you too.”
“They’re always so perky and happy and playing games. It’s so… so irritating.” Callie finished the last dregs of her drink. “I’ll go order us some more drinks.”
Callie chuckled, watching Erica fight her way through the crowd of doctors. With one finger, she scooped out an ice cube. Under the dim lights of Joe’s, only the faintest remnants of the note her soulmate had written could be seen. She was almost positive he did something with children, but for the life of her, she couldn’t figure out what it was.
She traced over the letters of the small tattoo at the crease of her wrist. Someday, she’d get to ask what it meant. A few weeks ago, she had been fixing up a 10 year old girl who had stolen her older brother’s bike and the girl had been thrilled by the tattoo. Apparently, it was her favourite movie and the peds person who had been in had promised she could watch it in her room after her surgery.
“So, like I was saying, peds people are the worst. They smile too much. And this one, God, she’s been a pain in my ass since residency. I got reamed out by a department head because I didn’t want to give an intern, that’s right, an intern time off. But she just flashed her stupid dimples and he bent over backwards.”
“This was when you were chief resident?”
“Yep. Freakin’ upstart.” Erica narrowed her eyes, leaning in to look closer at Callie’s wrist. “You have a tattoo? How did I not know this?”
In a fit of self-consciousness, Callie closed her fingers over her wrist for a moment before revealing it to Erica. “It’s not mine, really. It’s my soulmate’s. He got it a few years ago.”  She shrugged. “I have no idea why, but I normally wear a watch so it’s not visible.”
“Kind of dorky, isn’t it? So you don’t know who he is?” A flicker of something unidentifiable crossed Erica’s face. Callie shook her head.
“You?”
“No. We don’t… we don’t interact much.” Erica fixed her gaze on something over Callie’s shoulder, a sneer pulling at her lips. “And there she is, Cinderella, herself.”
“Want me to go yell at her or something?” Callie asked with a laugh, taking a long sip of her drink. She turned to look at who Erica was talking about, but Joe was in the middle of clearing a table, blocking her view.
“No, it’s fine. I just hope I don’t have any more peds patients. She’s a fine surgeon, wasted on kids, but I don’t think she could handle anything more intense.” Callie hummed and nodded along. “Anyway, tell me about your day.”
“Eh, it wasn’t anything to write home about. All pretty standard procedures.”
“That’s what you get for doing carpentry.” Erica laughed and Callie laughed with her, but something twisted at her. She hated when people reduced ortho to carpentry. She made people walk and she gave people their lives back and let the kid who wanted to go to the Olympics make it back for his season. “Oh, there Cinderella goes.” She waved a vague hand.
Callie twisted in her seat, but only caught a brief glimpse of blonde hair, at least assuming that was who Erica meant.

“SEVEN YEARS WITH LASHES FOR M. SIMONS,” Brantford Expositor. November 4, 1932. Page 6. ---- Justice Moved Swiftly for Brantford Jewel Thief ---- His Wife Is Under Arrest Here Pending Investigation ---- Justice moved with bewildering speed to-day for Milton Simons, Brantford man, who was captured here yesterday, after robbing Land’s jewelry store at Hamilton of $2500 in jewels and cash. Pleading guilty to two charges of robbery while armed, he was sentenced to-day to seven years in Portsmouth penitentiary on each charge, the terms to run concurrently, and to receive 12 lashes six to be inflicted at the end of three months and six at the end of six months.
On a charge of stealing a taxicab, Simons pleaded not guilty. The charge was changed to one of taking a car without the consent of the owner and Simons was sentenced to six months which will be concurrent with the other terms.
Simons’ appearance in court today marked the end of his brief crime trail. He stalked into the jewelry store early yesterday, held up the clerk and a Montreal salesman, grabbed 32 diamond rings, three watches, and more than $100 in cash, and then left the store after tying up the clerk and salesman.
He entered the waiting automobile and drove towards Brantford. En-route he forced the taxi-driver to leave the automobile and then continued his wild flight. Outside Brantford, he ran into a cordon of policemen who had been awaiting his appearance and 45 minutes after the robbery was en route back to Hamilton under guard.
WIFE ARRESTED Mrs. Elsie Simons, wife of Milton (“Nick”) Simons, was arrested here at a local hotel yesterday following the capture of Simons, alleged jewelry robber and holdup man here, earlier in the day.
The woman appeared before Magistrate S A Jones charged with vagrancy and at the request of Chief Stanley was remanded in custody for ten days until the chief satisfies himself about the valuable jewelry found in her possession.
Mrs. Simons, who gave her address as 212 Bay street, Hamilton, and who is stated to have lived in Chicago before she married Simons, has a fine wardrobe. Her appearance in court this morning bore out the statement of the police that she possessed plenty of very good and fashionable clothes. A white hat with white short fur coat and salmon pink and white dress made her conspicuous in the drab surroundings. Seated next to a local Indian woman arrested as a drunk, she presented a distinct contrast.
Mrs. Simons was interrogated by the police but appeared guarded in her statements regarding her husband and herself. Local relatives did not know of her presence here. She came to this city early yesterday morning, and police suspect this was part of a plan the pair made the night previous to the robbery. Police thought she might have been here to receive the stolen property.
Chief Stanley notified provincial officers and headquarters of city police in this country of the possession of the jewelry. Last evening Detectives Waterhouse and Strohn of Toronto came to the city to see if the jewelry was part of some recent hauls made in Toronto. They were not able to identify any of the goods taken from Mrs. Simons.
While Chief Stanley did not divulge the reason why he thought so he stated that he suspected the jewelry found in the possession of Mrs. Simons was stolen in Kansas City.
In the intervening ten days the police will send out a description of the jewelry and expect to have something definite.
It is also expected here that Mrs. Simons will be re-arrested by the Hamilton police as an accomplice in the robbery with which her husband is charged.
[AL: Simons was 29, married, had a long criminal history with sentences served in the Ohio State Reformatory and Michigan State Reformatory, was apparently trained as an electrician, and had a dagger tattoo on his left arm and shield with two clover leaves on his right. At Kingston Penitentiary, he was convict #2844 and actually ended up working in the electrician’s gang, but his conduct became increasingly irrational and he was considered in early 1934 to be mentally ill. He was transferred to Rockwood Mental Hospital shortly thereafter, and was ‘cured’ because he was back at the penitentiary by July 1936. He was released October 1937.]

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17, the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast–on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

St. Patrick’s occurs on March 17th, in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green.

field trip
Last January I took a dream solo train trip from LA to Chicago in a roomette and it started my year off auspiciously, with much time to self-reflect alone and, like, stir the contents of my brain slowly as if making a soup. All while 'riding the rails' of course. This January such a large undertaking was not possible but I did carve out enough time to do something EXTREMELY fun: take a short train trip to a nearby city for the purpose of looking at some specific art.
It was on a different train trip that sliced down the right bank of the Hudson River that I was like, damn the Hudson River School really snapped when they started painting the sublime. I googled "museum with Hudson River School paintings" and the result that came up most vigorously was the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut. They boast "over 65 works by the movement's noteworthy artists." Ok, accessible! So I bought Amtrak tickets, booked a hotel and got psyched for 24 hours in Hartford.
Tumblr media
Is there anything better than a rail yard?
Tumblr media
My $100 a night hotel room had the dreamiest view of the state Capitol. Boy, wasn't I in clover!
Tumblr media
I walked around a bit. Downtown Hartford had the kind of midwinter blasted modular emptiness that I, usually mired in the center of the rat king of NYC population density, could romanticize.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Hartford. I also grew emotional reading several plaques about the city's effort to re-forge a path to its riverfront after first railways and then the highway cut it off from citizen access. I just get so misty when I think about municipal governments allocating resources and committing to great undertakings for the benefits of their residents. I mean, I recently teared up reading about the WPA!
I ate some very good mac & cheese, enjoyed lots of Shark Tank, and went to bed. Good night, Hartford.
Tumblr media
ART DAY. The Wadsworth Atheneum is a lovely building.
Tumblr media
I warmed up to my eventual arrival at the HRS collection, starting in a section about cabinets of curiosities.
Tumblr media
If I had that in my home I'd never shut up about it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still Life With Ham and The Lazy Italian Woman.
Tumblr media
The museum's size was perfect, not overwhelming like The Met. I found almost all of the paintings to be interesting in some way. Such is the power of 'curation.' Satisfied by the 17th through 19th century European art, I moved on to the Hudson River School, tucked away in the back of the museum past the contemporary exhibit of works made of glass.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fuckin yeeeeaaaaaaa the sublime!!! Obviously so beautiful. But of course like all of art, the sublime is basically impossible to divorce from politics and from the artifice of mimesis. (Academic enough for u? I did attend college.) Like, you can't paint a gorgeous American landscape without also signifying that manifest destiny is good and right and committing genocide to fulfill it is only necessary. Likewise a lot of the landscapes were composites, existing nowhere truly in actual nature. I loved this painting done by Martin Johnson Heade called Gremlins in the Studio II where the impossibility of truly capturing nature is represented by a painting within a painting and then a weird little guy underneath.
Tumblr media
Still I got drunk on the sublime, as you do. I cleansed my palate (palette? ART JOKE) with some Surrealism, and then with the glass exhibit which was truly stunning. A wall of American desserts rendered in glass really tickled me and made me think about the magic of treats, the painfully limited pleasure of a slice of cake, and then of course, my mom making box brownies and allowing whichever kid was nearest the reward of licking the mixer or rubber spatula.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nearly fully sated, I closed out my visit with a stunning trip into a dark cave displaying video art, where I watched Paul Wynne Journal, a series of video diary entries from 1989 and 1990 that document a former TV journalist's experience with AIDS up to the point of his death. I'd never heard of the project before and I highly recommend watching it—one of the videos shows him planning his own memorial service and it's so funny, sweet and terribly sad!
Holy cow...that was a lot of art. It was time to leave, and I saw my last bit of unintentional art outside the train station. Shout out Suzanne Flathers.
Tumblr media
The train home, like all trains home, had more "commuter sludge" vibes than "magical journey" vibes but that was ok. A mere 24 hours in Connecticut put my brain through the washing machine on a high spin cycle, and I am ready to face the rest of the winter bravely, as well as to continue to find the sublime on a train platform.

Chicago pd season 3 is the season of Moustead I've decided
In the rewrite regardless of whether I kill Nadia or not (still leaning toward not but we'll see), Erin is gonna be a mess (affectionate) and she and Jay are gonna have a conversation about how yes they're partners in pretty much every sense of the word and will always be there for each other, including romantically, but Erin isn't in the right place for a committed relationship right now (don't get me wrong I very much like Lindstead I am a multishipper at heart) so like they still have a Thing but also not but the Lindstead aspects of s3 continue pretty much unchanged for the most part
So 3x01 and 3x03 happen and Jay and Mouse have their "holy shit I could've lost you today" moments but Mouse has been pining for like a decade at this point and doesn't act on his feelings
3x07 continues the Jay centric episodes of my dreams, then 3x10 and 3x11 follow for more Jay character opportunities
Then in 3x15 Mouse gets Jay the security job at the dispensary and he meets Terry Egan, who is gonna be gay and single here with Lissa being his pregnant sister instead, and Jay and Terry hit it off instantly and have a thing, which ends brutally in 3x17 with the robbery that kills Terry and just ruins Jay's entire day
And then instead of Kim/Roman developing romantically it's Moustead to round off the season, and I have not watched s4 yet but Mouse is not leaving actually I'm too attached (see me also not killing Nadia)

Quarantine Tag Tame
Tagged by @fallenqueen2 - thank you, dear!
Are you staying home from work/school?
Thankfully, my college offers online classes during this pandemic, so yes, I’m staying home.
If you’re staying home, who is with you?
My parents.
Are you a homebody?
Yeeep. The staying at home thing is the only good thing to come out of this; no being forced out into overcrowded college classes and into the tram twice a day to get back and forth, no need to make up excuses to avoid social commitments because legally there are no social commitments. Admittedly, it’s been going on too long even for me at this point, I would like to go somewhere with someone again, sometimes at least...
An event you were looking forward to that got cancelled?
Christmas and Easter. I miss my family, the extended family. Aunts, uncles, cousins. These family celebrations are just... feels off without family?
What movies have you watched recently?
That’d be the first three Asterix movies with my lovely girlfriend @kunfyouzed! ^-^
What shows are you watching?
Right at this moment, the final season of Burden of Truth. And Black Clover. Also started watching You Me Her, though I haven’t decided if I like that one yet.
Otherwise? Weekly, ongoing shows I am currently watching as they are currently airing? All Rise, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, Chicago Fire, Supergirl, Station 19, Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order SVU, Boku no Hero Academia, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, The Good Doctor.
What music are you listening to?
The soundtrack of Greatest Showman, because I am feeling musicals these days!
What are you reading?
Still rereading the first Bartimaeus. And comics, lots and lots of DC comics - making my way through the New 52 atm.
What are you doing for self-care?
lol

EQUAL PARTS TALENT & HARD WORK
December 26, 1965
Tumblr media
Below is a verbatim reprint an article by Edgar Penton based on his interview with Lucille Ball. Bolded and italicized text indicates quotes from Ball.  The publication may vary by newspaper.  The above illustration was by Robert Thompson.
Tumblr media
During a recent discussion between a television producer and a network program executive on the problem of casting a top role for a big television variety special, the latter remarked, "If we could just get somebody like Lucille Ball we'd be in clover."
The producer mulled that statement over for all of one second and said, "There is only one Lucille Ball, and if you can't get Lucy there's no such thing as somebody like her."
That statement comes pretty close to a capsule explanation of Miss Ball's unparalleled success as a star in all phases of the entertainment business.
Of course, Lucy's career can't be embraced with a single anecdote, but it serves to underscore the fact that there really IS only one Lucille Ball.
From that landmark evening, Oct. 15, 1951, when CBS launched a new comedy series called "I Love Lucy," to the present, Lucille Ball has never left the hearts and screens of the nation's television viewers.
The vivacious and irrepressible comedienne enjoys the distinction of being the only star to score twice in a hit television series her latest, of course, the current “The Lucy Show” still on CBS, Monday evenings.
To evaluate the success of a Lucille Ball, however, a person must go beyond the popularity of a television show. Let's take a look at Lucy, herself, and then perhaps we can understand something about the talent that creates so many memorable moments of entertainment.
Lucy (hardly anyone calls her Lucille, except her mother) candidly attributes her success to hard work. As a matter of fact, that's the advice she gives to all newcomers who ask her how to make the grade -in show business.
"I know it sounds rather easy and simple to tell an eager youngster to get out and work hard," Lucy explains, "and they get a lot of advice like that from parents. But show business is no different than any other business.”
"If you want to reach the top, you've got to start somewhere near the bottom. Learn to be a good listener and remember what you learn.”
"Of course, luck sometimes plays a part in everyone's career, but you can't rely on it. Even if fortune did place you in an advantageous position would you be prepared to deliver? I like busy people who know their capabilities and utilize them at the proper time.”
"It may only be part of the overall goal, but there's nothing wrong in having a series of goals, and realizing one at a time.”
"It's great for the confidence, and will win you respect and recognition at a time when you least expect it."
Miss Ball says she considers it necessary for an aspiring performer to be able to communicate with others, exchange ideas and philosophies, develop a sense of values, and not to expect what you don't deserve.
"When I was a youngster my family taught me that you get out of life what you put into it," Lucy says.
"By the time a lot of people learn the soundness of that philosophy, they find it's too late to retreat to a sensible position, and spend much of their lives trying to overcome ill - conceived notions about what life owes them.”
"Faith in yourself and your ambitions doesn't necessarily mean you have to put aside all the graces in your race for success. Yet I say you can afford to be a little selfish as you progress.”
"But I don't mean 'selfish' in a negative sense. For example, be selfish about your time. Don't waste it. Don’t let a party or a good time dilute your effectiveness on the job. Don't try to do too many things to the point of not being able to do a few things well."
Lucy says that during her early years she felt a great insecurity about her own ambitions. She thought her personality was flat, that she had no poise; after losing half-a-dozen jobs . she was just about ready to give up show business.
"I felt down, but not quite out," Lucy recalls. "Even when a New York drama coach told me but kindly ; that I was not cut out for the entertainment world, something within me wouldn't quit. I took other jobs, in, around and near the theater.”
"I finally got a job as a model. I wasn't acting or performing in a true sense, but I gained confidence and I haven't stopped working since."
Few would argue the point that Lucy is one of the hardest working gals in show business, but it should also be recalled that the spirited redhead from Jamestown, N.Y. brought a little item into the entertainment marketplace called talent.
Over the years she has managed to shape her endowments into what today is regarded as one of the great comedic talents of our time.
Her ability to grasp a situation or scene and transform it into riotous fun is one of the many reasons why her appearance is sheer joy to watch. And she has also developed a remarkable ability to do startling, realistic impressions of other personalities.
Tribute to Lucy's rare and wonderful versatility as a comedienne comes from every writer who has had the opportunity to pen a scene or create a characterization for any of Miss Ball's adventures before the cameras.
Her long-time writers on “I Love Lucy,” Bob Carroll Jr., and Madelyn Martin, Bob Schiller and Bob Weiskopf, who came back to launch Lucy's return to television on “The Lucy Show,” admit they create some almost impossible situations for Lucy.
But they have never been able to stump the adept Miss Ball, who didn't mind one bit swinging from a chandelier, going up with a balloon or flying like Peter Pan.
Milt Josefsberg, principal writer on the current Lucy Show, says that he no longer has misgivings about whether Lucy is capable of meeting demands of certain scripts.
"Since I've been on the show, Lucy has wrestled a bear, played with a porpoise and single-handedly wrecked an entire motion picture set. Yet when she is earthbound, she's peerless when it comes to timing and delivery.”
Today, Miss Ball is the president of Desilu Productions, largest television film producing facility in the world. She is the mother of two talented youngsters (Lucie, 14, and Desi Jr., 12, children of her marriage to Desi Arnaz), and the wife of comedian Gary Morton (they just celebrated their fourth anniversary).
She just completed a season of radio on CBS (”Let's Talk to Lucy”), took time out to star in two one-hour television specials, completed a year as national chairman of the Easter Seal Campaign, and is talking about plans for next year.
Like Lucy said, it takes hard work.

Although the text of the article was basically the same in all newspapers (sometimes edited for length), syndicated columns would often feature different headlines, photos and other enhancements.  This is the headline and photo collage of the same Edgar Penton article in another newspaper.

On the same date, Chicago television editor Larry Walters retired after 36 years and counted Lucille Ball as one of his most memorable performers.

On December 26, 1965, the Miami News reported that Vivian Vance was returning to the Coconut Grove Playhouse to perform in the Neil Simon play Barefoot in the Park. In August 1965, co-star Darryl Hickman and Vance had appeared on the TV game show “Call My Bluff” together.

The day after these articles hit newspapers, a new episode of “The Lucy Show” premiered titled “Lucy Discovers Wayne Newton” (TLS S4;E14).

Q&A-Who are all of you? Favorite things to do? Fandoms other than Marvel?
❤️💛THANK YOU FOR SENDING IN YOUR QUESTION TO HELP US CELEBRATE 9000 FOLLOWERS❤️💛
Tumblr media
I’ve been known on here as Mod 2 for over a year, but since we’ve added several new mods and finders onto the team, it might be easier to give myself a name now. You all can call me Mod Clover🍀. I prefer to keep my tumblr on the down low, so I hope you don’t mind me not linking my main account. As for favorite activities; I enjoy baking, painting my nails/nail art, recently started trying to teach myself embroidery, reading, and playing video games (mostly Animal Crossing right now but I just got the Phoenix Wright trilogy). For fandoms, I LOVE The Legend of Zelda series. Star Wars is pretty cool. I grew up watching Avatar:TLA, Teen Titans, and Sailor Moon. Currently enjoying My Hero Academia. Want to get back into the Percy Jackson books.
-Mod Clover🍀
I've been a mod here since day 1 because I started the group, but then it got too much to handle for me and now I don't do as much as the other mods. I help find some fics, but running this blog so flawlessly goes to the other mods on the team! I love to write, play hockey and golf, play some video games, and read. Some other fandoms I'm in/I've been apart of are: Maximum Ride, Phineas and Ferb, Transformers, Castle, and Supernatural, as well as Disney, though I don't do any writing for that.
-mod s
I’m Beth. One of the new mods on the group. :) I generally take care of the Follower Outreach on here. My favorite things to do are run/exercise, travel and explore, puzzles, sing, knitting and crochet. I’m not really in any other fandoms but I do like Merlin(BBC), Lucifer, The West Wing, all the Chicago based shows- Med, Fire, PD etc as well as NCIS.
-Mod Beth 👻
I’m Finder Laronia and i am pretty new to this group :D I applied when there was an outreach for ficfinders and seeing that i read a ton and kept a private library for them, i thought i could be of some use :’D I love reading, drawing, writing and playing console games and i LOVE normal and “special” photography like infrared photography or astrophotograpy. The very first fandom i was consciously passionate about was Supernatural, followed by twilight and rise of the guardians, but recent fandoms have been Yuri on Ice and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That also made me realize that i have been in the Zelda “fandom” since i was…. 4?XD because it’s ALWAYS been part of my life, i only never knew fandoms existed at that time :D
I applied to be a mod with the last wave of applications and got accepted, so I’ve been here a few months now. I primarily focus on finding lost fics and queuing asks to post. Outside of this blog, I love reading and writing fics for Irondad, SPN, Batfam, Teen Wolf, and a few other fandoms, as well as being outside in nature, puzzles, hanging with friends, and chilling with my cats.
- mod B
I joined the team during the recent round of finder applications because I have a pretty good memory of the fics I've read which is very helpful for finding lost fics, and I enjoy putting together fic rec lists. Some of my other hobbies include programming, playing video games, designing video games, writing, and playing music - I was a percussionist in my high school band! Believe it or not, I would say irondad is my secondary fandom - my primary fandom is Pokémon. I consider myself a bit of a Pokémon expert and I've written tons of fic for the games and manga. Some other fandoms I've dabbled in include X-Men, Phantom of the Opera, Phineas and Ferb, Tangled: The Series, and Percy Jackson/Trials of Apollo!
-Finder Storm
I used to be Mod 1 but I've since stepped back from the blog (aside from the occasional technical thing) now that Clover has more help and I'm busy with school. I'm Sere :) (it's like siri)
- Mod Sere 💛

four leaf clover by @benmwords from “It’s Complicated”
I had to be the luckiest person alive, I thought as I watched you sing along to the punk song blasting through the car speakers as the wind moved around your unruly curls. What had I done in my past life to be so blessed to have you here with me, at this moment as we sped towards school. I must have sacrificed myself for someone, or something.
You caught me staring and took a break from singing to flash me a grin. You were having a blast, and it was just a Monday and we were just on our way to school. That was one of the many things I loved about you, your ability to make even the most mundane moments feel like something to celebrate.
Unfortunately, our ride ends too quickly and we’re thrust back into the real world. But every time I catch your eyes, it’s not too bad.
One day, I would say often, we’ll go on a real road trip. California, Nashville, Chicago, it doesn’t matter. Anywhere that took more than a couple hours to drive to. We had a playlist in the works for it, constantly being test driven on our morning commutes and changed to fit our moods. When the time came, and we tossed backpacks into my tiny beetle and embarked on that grand journey, we’d be ready.
You were so magnetic, I shouldn’t have been surprised that someone else would want you. I bet everyone wanted you, but I figured I was the only one you wanted. I guess I was wrong, I guess that I wasn’t enough. I guess someone with so much energy needed multiple outlets or you’d feel like you were being suffocated. I guess I can’t entirely blame you, or him. I guess the only person I can blame is myself for believing I could have been lucky enough to find a four-leaf clover in a field of poison ivy.
Now, I wonder if you ever went on that trip.
