Re-watching Grey's and it really rubs me the wrong way how the interns treated Callie, I don't think any of them even apologized for it.

absolutely! meredith and izzie really stand out as being particularly nasty (george is a whole other level ofc). it’s just like dumb mean girl behavior and really gross. and then meredith and callie become like close friends by s10?? the whole thing is strange.

honestly callie gets treated really poorly by a lot of people around her especially in the first few seasons and has some self confidence issues bc she has a really hard time a) effectively standing up for herself and b) not letting it happen multiple times before she walks away (ie george and izzie).

low key, unsubstantiated and just riffing here, but i think a lot of that fed into callie’s very hard lines with arizona later on. (not talking so much about post cheating but more so the custody battle or even things like the baby fight) at times calzona’s relationship becomes very zero sum and all or nothing and i kinda wonder how much of that stems from callie previously being walked over and then she takes a much firmer line with arizona (who then gets walked over from time to time). not saying it’s a bad thing for callie to stand up for herself and know her boundaries, but i think there’s an argument to be made that callie threw a lot of george/erica/etc baggage onto arizona and perhaps drew the wrong conclusion from her previous experiences. honestly idk im just rambling now but it makes sense in my head

i wonder if Arizona would ever be ok with people looking at her as a poster child for disabled doctors, like every time she performs some groundbreaking surgery and she gives and interview or someone writes about it, she's never just a surgeon, she's always the "disabled surgeon".

hm i think it would make her incredibly uncomfortable tbh. she would want to be known by her achievements and not the fun fact that she only has one leg. in the same way she wouldn’t ever want to be the lesbian surgeon.

the one exception being kids though but that’s different for a whole host of reasons

What are your thoughts on the book binding fanfic drama? In case you didn’t hear about it, authors are taking fics down cuz their fics were being sold on etsy by booktok

i’m not even sure i have the words to fully describe how negatively i feel about it. i don’t mean to gatekeep or anything but it’s sort of clear that this is the result of people who have never really had any fandom, much less fanfic, exposure and don’t understand the implications of their actions. the whole situation feels fundamentally selfish and unfeeling on the part of those selling/buying these bound copies of fics. and my heart really goes out to those authors who feel they have no choice but to remove their fics. that’s not an easy choice to make, but a completely understandable one.

not to be dramatic, but this is a potentially very risky situation for the future of fics on public platforms like ffn or ao3 and i truly hope that it can all be sorted out cleanly. i keep back ups of all of my fics ofc but the idea of having to fully remove them from where you all are used to finding them just feels sad.

You know, that's a very good point. That maybe Arizona thought differently about kids and family before Tim died. If you think about it, she wants marriage and a family as much as Callie, she just kind of pushed that to the back of her mind and wend out with Boswell-type women.

based on comments arizona makes, i’m inclined to think that she really wasn’t in a relationship relationship for at least 2 or so years (ie after tim dies and she moves to seattle) before callie. like she dated a bit but she wasn’t really trying to be in a long term relationship. (that does open up some interesting lines of inquiry for arizona pursuing callie but unrelated to this)

i think what people often miss about arizona is that she’s incredibly risk adverse and she’s got a pretty healthy amount of abandonment issues specifically wrapped up in family (absent, likely disapproving and non affectionate father and her closest friend, war hero brother who died tragically, and don’t get me started on babs lol). by the time she’s with callie, in arizonas mind, it’s been proven out multiple times that having a family is a much riskier proposition than being by herself.

I'm watching the rookie, and since I saw one of the main cast has the name tim on the show, plus he was in the military, I can't stop picturing that actor as Timothy Robbins with with same personality as Tim Bradford has in the Rookie

while there’s no excuse for arizona cheating, do you think callie ever had a moment of clarity? she had to know deep down that the woman she married would’ve never cheated on her. that she was so deeply traumatized and suffering from untreated ptsd. i think it could’ve happened for her after the divorce sometime. maybe cristina kind of puts some things into perspective for her in regards to the plane crash and what they all went through for days. i’ve just always felt that callie would’ve eventually truly forgiven her after they were separated for a while.

a sort of fundamental underlying truth of that period of time is that callie (or really anyone who wasn’t on the plane) couldn’t understand what arizona was going through. and arizona wasn’t in a place to explain what was happening and she was presenting an image that she was doing so much better than she was in reality.

i wanna say it’s in “someday, someone” but there’s a bit that touches on this and how callie is as able to recognize that the arizona who cheated on her was practically a different person from the one she married or divorced.

i’m almost reticent to say callie full blown forgave arizona bc i think that the cheating will always be a major pain point but i do think callie can make peace with it, can see it as a reflection on arizonas mental state vs a reflection on callie failing as a wife.

what's your opinion on the surrogate storyline at the end of s10? i always thought it was such a weird little arc that went nowhere, callie couldn't carry and arizona didn't want to and they went for a surrogate and then they got a divorce. like i don't know what exactly was even that

i think at that point, the writers were just throwing random crap at calzona and hoping something would stick. they seemed to have sort of run out of inspiration and ideas and gave up

I once saw a fic where Alex offered to be the sperm donor for Calzona so Arizona carried his baby. I honestly find that as weird and uncomfortable as Arizona carrying Mark's baby.

I was looking back at some old fics on fanfiction.net and I found one where Arizona slept with Mark to “understand” why Callie went back to him. And not only did Mark agree, Callie didn’t seem upset at all that it happened. I don’t think I will ever understand why people write Arizona with men, like Mark or Alex. The amount of fics that exist with those pairings are quite disturbing imo.

I got the impression that Eliza could be more serious for Arizona than Carina. Like, Carina really was just a hot sex buddy that was fun to hang out with. I also think that Lauren (and Carina) were exactly the type of women Arizona went for before Callie. Accomplished, career driven, confident, free, not tied to anything. Callie was the first woman Arizona dated that wanted a family, marriage, kids. While Lauren & Carina are women who would up and leave for Africa with Arizona in a heartbeat.

yeah i’d agree with that. eliza defs was closer to an actual relationship while carina was more of a fwb type situation.

in case yall weren’t completely aware, i’m super fascinated by arizona pre-seattle. and especially before tim died, because imo that event has an outsized impact on pretty much everything in arizonas life, especially her approach to family and possible children. like in college etc, did arizona think about having kids? did she and tim ever talk about being aunt and uncle to each others kids? was arizona in a serious relationship prior to callie where kids came up? there’s so much we fundamentally don’t know about arizona which honestly makes her so much fun.

just as pre and post plane crash arizona are almost two different people, pre and post tim’s death arizona are two different people

i think even more interesting than callie stuck in plane crash day is arizona stuck somewhere around that time - either just before they board the plane or when they actually crash or when she wakes up in a hospital. and she tries to change things so she isn't the one on the plane, so she isn't the one who has to lose her leg. but something else horrible always happens and in the end she lets things happen as they did the first time and finds some sort of acceptance.

I love to imagine that Penny always felt threatened by Arizona, because on some level she knew Callie still had feelings for her ex-wife, there was so much history there. And Penny who doesn't even know anymore if she's getting paranoid or if Callie really keeps comparing her to Arizona every chance she gets without even realizing it.

oh totally, arizona totally intimidates penny unintentionally. she and callie have been through so much together, survived so much together, have a kid together, it’s just different from anything penny could ever have with callie. and arizonas very much on callie’s level professionally, again in a way that pennys very much disadvantaged.

but then arizona’s almost always pleasant with her and penny can’t get a read on her. and everyone loves arizona and thinks she’s one of the best teachers and she works in a super specialized field and rumor has it does over half her cases pro bono. she’s fundamentally a hard person to hate and it drives penny crazy.

and then there’s callie, who alludes to why they broke up and penny thinks there was infidelity but whenever callie mentions it she also talks about how arizona survived the impossible. and callie somehow always has an anecdote about arizona but maybe penny’s just hyper aware of when she mentions arixona and callie also talks about people like george and meredith and cristina and mark a lot and maybe penny just hears arizonas name and gets defensive.

penny tells herself she’s being overly sensitive and arizonas callie’s ex, she’s callie’s gf. callie chose her.

but somehow, arizonas ever present even when they leave seattle which penny thought would improve the situation. callie’s constantly in communication with arizona and penny knows it’s about sofia and she knows callie would never cheat.

but she also hears how callie talks about her ex wife with colleagues but they were talking about mfm or they know addison montgomery and ofc they ask about arizona. why wouldn’t they
