Everything is Somewhat Repaired: It's the Same Fight
cw: Abortion, TERFS, Fascism.
Shortly before we got together, my girlfriend Jane had an abortion.
This was over a decade ago now, and had she been forced to give birth our lives would be very different. I am so glad we are where we are.
Today the guardian published this:
Women must be allowed to defend abortion as a sex-based right - Sonia Sodha*
With the overturning roe v wade it was only a matter of time before the gender critical movement used this as a way to attack trans people,
all the while they're still accepting funds from the far right christian lobby groups campaigning against both trans rights and abortion access.
If you wish to control my body or other people's bodies, i wish you healing or i wish you death.
Foot notes
* Trans men and non-binary people can and do need abortion access not just women.
"Sex-based right" is a transphobic dog whistle used to remove rights from trans and non-binary people.
If you need more explaining on this, look somewhere else. I'm tired.
Actually you can watch "The XX Factor" a series about the ideology of the gender critical movement by Katie Montgomerie and Christa Peterson. Thanks.x

Top 5 modern version of myths
OH HELLO ACROSS ANY MEDIUM?!?!
An Iliad is a one-person play by Lisa Peterson and Dennis O’Hare that is absolutely stunning. It retells the Iliad (from Fagles translation) and is a beautifully moving piece about war, about loss, about anger. It speaks to the immediacy of ancient texts and the universality of human nature. I saw a lot of theatre this year from New York City to Canada and it was in my top 3 plays of the year. I highly highly highly recommend, if a production of it ever comes near you.
I really like Hadestown!!!!!! I think it’s fun; I love the music! I love the relationship of climate and capitalism. It’s such a good piece.
Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis. Cupid and Psyche has been a favorite myth of mine since I was little and this is such a beautiful and weird and unusual book. The way Lewis uses mythology to talk about death, depression, anger, and Christian theology. *chef’s kiss*
The Encyclopedia of Early Earth by Isabel Greenburg is a graphic novel and I don’t know if this is best I’ve ever read but it’s a very beautiful compendium of new myths—based on some cultural touchstones.
now here’s the thing about this last one. I know it’s cliche of me that I’m going to say it and I know that I never shut up about these books and I know that there are other options to talk about—the recent production of Medea at the Met or Christa Wolf or expand into interpretations of Christian mythology with Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens and Philip Pullmans The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ. I know I haven’t even touched on Norse stuff or the beautiful play Chitra by Ravindranath Tagore. BUT. The way that Meghan Whalen Turner creates and uses myth and reflects on the creation of myth in the Queen’s Thief series?!?! Beautiful. Iconic. 15/10.

CHRISTA PIKE: THE YOUNGEST WOMAN TO RECEIVE THE DEATH PENALTY IN THE U.S.
WHO WAS CHRISTA PIKE?
Christa Pike was born on March 10th, 1976, and lived in Knoxville Tennessee. She lived a very troubled life and never had a stable home. Her mother, Carissa Hansen, spent more time partying, getting drunk and high then she did trying to be a mother. She even gave Christa marijuana when she was a young teenager. Christa’s father, Glenn Pike, had no interest in being a father. She originally lived with her grandmother until she was 12, and had to move back in with her mother after she passed away. She dropped out of high school and attended a Jobs Corps program for low income teens to gain an education in vocational skills. This is where her life took a drastic tumble. She was 18 and had only been attending this school for three months before she committed her crime. While attending this school, she had met a man named Tadaryl Shipp, and put most of her focus on their relationship. Tadaryl was a satanist who entered a cult where he and others worshiped Satan. Soon after meeting Tadaryl, Christa also started practicing satanism. Christa had also made friends with a fellow classmate, Shadolla Peterson, also 18, who will soon become part of the heinous crime.
Christa was a very jealous girl and became possessive over her boyfriend Tadaryl, so much that she insisted another girl, Colleen Slemmer, 19, was trying to steal her boyfriend away. However, all of Colleen’s friends had claimed that she never had any interest in Tadaryl at all. Christa confronted Tadaryl and he denied having interest in Colleen, but Christa didn’t believe him and needed proof that she was the only girl for him. Together, they came up with a plan to kill Colleen. Classmates of Christa would later tell police that she would walk around and talk about how much she hated Colleen, and that she wanted to kill her. However, no one thought she was serious, other than her friend Shadolla, who knew very well what her plan was. Unfortunately, Colleen had no idea of the hatred that Christa had for her. Tadaryl stayed friends with her, talking to her daily in order to gain her trust so they could put their plan into motion.
THE BRUTAL ATTACK
On January 12th, 1995, Christa asked her if she’d like to hangout with her and the others, offering her marijuana if she came along. She accepted and Christa successfully lured her out into the middle of the woods, where everyone's mood changed. Shadolla was told to keep watch, and wasn’t around the crime scene. Colleen was told to remove her shirt and bra, and was immediately attacked with a box cutter by Christa. Christa did all of the damage alone, while Tadaryl basically stood there and watched, only there to keep Colleen down if she tried to get up. She begged for her life, pleading with her attackers that she wouldn’t say a word to anyone about her assault, and that she would hitchhike back to Florida if they let her go. Christa just told her to stop talking to her, and continued to taunt, beat, slash, and mutilate her for the next 45 minutes. She was stabbed at least 300 times, but Colleen’s mother, Mary, would later say that it looked like she was stabbed 500 times. The stab wounds were mainly focussed on her chest and stomach, and a few to her crotch. The twisted couple even drew a pentagram on her chest, as they were sacrificing her to the devil. Christa then made multiple slash wounds to her throat, and as a last ditch attempt to escape, Colleen stood up as she was bleeding tremendously, and made a run for it. She was pushed back down by one of her attackers, and Christa decided to pick up a chunk of asphalt and bludgeon her to death with it. She smashed her skull so much to the point that Colleen’s face wasn’t even recognizable anymore. Pieces of her skull were sticking out of her head, and Christa picked out a piece and saved it as a souvenir. It would later be said by the coroner that her skull was so badly shattered, that they had to take her entire skull out, just to repiece it back together. There were also pieces of her skull embedded into her brain, and a piece missing that was in the hands of her assailant. When they were sure Colleen was dead, the trio left the woods and returned back to their dorm, like nothing ever happened.
INVESTIGATION AND SENTENCING
The following morning on January 13th, an employee who worked on campus found Colleen’s body and called the police. Before Christa knew that the body had been found, she walked around with the piece of skull and showed it off around her school, being really proud of what she had done. She would soon learn that the body had been discovered and the police were at the crime scene. A large crowd formed around the crime scene, Christa being one of the people who attended. She asked the police if they had any suspects, and seemed strangely happy when talking to them. Investigators asked to see the log book of the school, where students have to sign in and out whenever they leave. It showed that Colleen, Christa, Tadaryl, and Shadolla all signed out around the same time, but Colleen was the only one who never signed back in. The trio were immediately arrested and taken in for questioning, and all of their rooms were searched, finding a Satanic Bible in Tadaryl’s room. They also found the bloody clothes that Christa was wearing, including the murder weapons.
Christa was brought in for questioning and even though they already had the skull fragment as evidence, they still needed a confession. Luckily for them, she easily confessed to everything she had done to Colleen, and she seemed excited to tell the police everything. She even got up and physically reenacted what she did. She told the police that she didn’t originally plan to kill her, that she just wanted to scare her, and it went too far. However, she admitted that she didn’t care that she was dead, and that she wouldn’t lose sleep over it. The coroner stated that the death was caused by blunt force trauma to the head, and eventually lost count of how many stab wounds were on her body.
On March 22nd, 1996, Christa Pikes' trial began. The prosecutors had evidence of Christa’s confession, along with the coroner who had to repair Colleen’s skull, and even showed the jury the skull fragment that Christa had in her pocket when she was arrested, and showed that it was a perfect match to the piece of skull that was missing. Due to Christa’s lack of remorse, it only took the jury a couple hours of deliberation to find her guilty of first degree murder, and guilty of conspiracy to commit murder, and was sentenced to death by electrocution. Tadaryl and Shadolla also admitted to their part in the crime. Tadaryl received life in prison, missing the death penalty only because he was a minor at the time of the crime. Shadolla received a six year probation to pleading guilty to being an accessory to the murder.
Christa Pike had made several appeals over the years to get her out of the death penalty, and even though all of them have been rejected, she is still walking on death row at the age of 41. Meanwhile, Colleen’s mother, Mary, refuses to bury her child without every piece of her daughter. Each year her mother gets a part of the body, and until Christa Pike is executed, the skull fragment will continue to stay locked up in evidence. It’s heartbreaking that Mary can’t put her daughter to rest all these years. It’s unknown what her execution date is currently. Christa had also been charged with another attempted murder while she and someone else tried to strangle her cellmate, Patricia Jones with a shoe string, nearly succeeding in 2001. She and a few others had also tried to escape prison in early 2012.

Higher Education Freedom of Speech Act and The Jester's privilege
If they want the freedom to do and say whatever they want - let them have it. But only if they wear silly, jingling hats.
The Higher Education Freedom of Speech Act has gone into power through the king's assent (whatever that is) in early May of 2023 after a legislative limbo that lasted a few years. Since this bill seeks to protect people from any repercussions regarding their 'challenging of conventional ideas' and 'voicing ideas and opinions', it makes academic institutions legally responsible for upholding freedom of speech by not discriminating against viewpoints. Immediately it seems rather questionable, as many have pointed out, whether there truly aren't any views that may be discriminated against in an academic setting - such as Holocaust denial.
In response, now-accused of bullying MP Gavin Williamsion stated that such speech would still be prohibited under different Bills and that this merely concerns freedom of speech within the law. MP David Davis cited four examples of problematic no-platforming which, curiously, are one member of his own Party and three others who have had hooplas regarding the rights of trans people and how they presented them. I am not interested in these individual's views in particular, but one might get the idea that there is a certain group of people that are the motivation for this law. Ein Schelm wer Böses dabei denkt - as the Germans like to say.
It should, then, come as no surprise that Kathleen Stock had nothing but positive things to say about this bill. The Bri'ish philosopher who has left her university position has been criticised by the philosophy undergrad student Christa Peterson of the University of Southern California numerous times. In response to this criticism, Stock would continously accuse her of defamation while calling her obsessive, a troll and exhibit an overall refusal to engage with her criticisms and points - something any reasonable person would expect from an academic. Repeatedly, she has retaliated against university students criticising her; criticism that was largely in response to her e-mailing every single student of the Sussex philosophy department about her being Gender Critical, ironically urging them that abuse and harassment of an individual are not acceptable.
This may seem as nothing but hypocritical to a normal observer (or perhaps a sign of mental unwellness) but the based and CRT-pilled are, of course, aware that this is nothing if not business as usual.
Academia, as a whole, is a very selective and elitist institution for better and for worse. While this Bill seems to seek to solidify a right of a certain group of people to be part of this illustrous circle; discriminating against unfounded views, lack of evidence and lack of training and/or knowledge is a key part of academia as an institution and science as a whole. This form of what one might call discrimination of speech is, fundamentally, part of the essence of academia. One may only wonder whether we will have academic Flat Earth Congresses in the future lest the university be sued. I, for one, am looking foward to it.
So much for the idealist form of this discrimination. In parctice, people are excluded from academia and its processes for a number of reason that have nothing to do with their scientific endeavors. I have no doubt that there are hearing- or visually-impaired people who are excellent in their field - and yet you will only rarely find them in academia. Miranda Fricker and Charles W. Mills have written poignant works about this discrimination against women and black people respectively. Through and because of their work, it is apparent that academia is (perhaps) last but (definitely) not least a structure that reproduces hegemony while pretending it is not. Class and social issues that are omnipresent in our society do not magically vanish within one institution. When one makes accusations of, or points out, racism, homophobia, or other types of discrimination, this nexus of domination is the most apparent and vitriolic, as the social structure is built in such a way that makes those not affected by these types of violence and domination blind to them. As Mills said: „White supremacy makes White people deny what is in front of them.“ While transphobia and racism are hardly the same – both structurally as well as historically – I am under the impression the cognitive distortion can be quite similar.
Any underprivileged person is keenly aware of the fact that there are things they cannot say in many social contexts. Being reprimanded or fired for calling a customer dumb (even when it is objectively true) is an everyday occurence for those who do not sit in the comfortable position of university tenure and have grown fat with content. But the speech and freedom of peasants is not what’s at stake here: It is the speech of an elite group of people that gets to see a university from the inside in the first place.
Academically, the problem with racism or transphobia is not that they are dehumanizing and demeaning, but, rather, that they are empirically false. As Christa surmises in her (long, researched, and cited) article: "When you dismiss the actual, peer reviewed research on the matter in favor of obviously statistically incompetent Twitter threads and start saying anti-gay hate groups "have some relevant expertise" about how trans kids should be treated, you do look like you have an agenda."
This brings us to our other issue: All of this is, objectively, very funny. Stock, purpoting to be a serious academic, quoting the American College of Pediatricians and, when it is pointed out to her that they are a conservative hate/advocacy group that promotes gay conversion and lobbies against abortion, not retracting her statement, but saying ‚they are onto something in this case‘ is hilarious. Her encouraging her followers to Follow the Money while the Spectacle around her person and position have landed her a book deal and her most cited year in her career, is hysterical. Long we have now struggled with the problem that Donald Trump or Alex Jones are incredibly funny, but, unfortunately, potentially quite dangerous for marginalized people.
Perhaps the problem today is not that these people are incredibly silly, but that some take them seriously.
Take, for example, Jordan Peterson’s monologue about the question „Do you believen in God?“. He, correctly, asserts that the language that someone uses already betrays a certain ideology or framework of reference. So does asking such a question to begin with, may I add. But instead of simply pointing out this arguable fact, he asserts there is „mysteries“ in these words; „what do you mean ‚do‘?“ (?????) To say such a thing with a straight face while routinely denying the implications of adopting (read: making it up) that Chaos is a black, feminine dragon and Order a white, masculine serpent is so fucking hilarious, I don’t know how else to put it. I could talk about J.P.‘s unintended comedic genius for literal hours. But I can’t because some people are tricked into believing him to be a serious person.
To solve this conundrum, medieval societies had the genius idea to let some people say whatever they want for the comedic delight of other people in exchange for their credibility and what I would call epistemic dignity: Nothing they said or could say in the future should ever be considered or met with anything but a laugh. Fittingly, the French, German and Spanish called this what it is – liberté du fou, Narrenfreiheit, libertad de bufón: The freedom of the idiot.
I have to commend the fact that this serious issue is, once again, brought to the forefront of our societies. One can only imagine how the Weimar Republic would have turned out if we would have honored this tradition and mandated the NSDAP to wear the funny, jingling hats. At least, their victims would have heard them coming.

Three years after her debut on Medium, Kathleen Stock has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her "services to higher education." She shared the text of the rationale:
We are delighted that you have received recognition for your outstanding contribution to academia and the media, in defence of free speech. Since 2018 you have been committed to publicly writing about the lack of academic freedom and the philosophical ideology that goes along with it. You have been a selfless role model and passionate advocate for freedom of speech, gaining the respect and support of many of your peers and students.
It is striking for someone to receive such a prestigious award for something that can only be referred to euphemistically. Stock has solely devoted herself, in this period, to the "gender critical" movement—a movement, in her words, identified with the position that "that trans women shouldn’t be counted as women." She accepted the award on Twitter with a speech about the need to get the LGBT organization Stonewall out of the university.
It has been surreal, the past few years, to watch the things Stock actually says, and the ways she actually treats people, and then hear how she is described.

💗 3 Days to GABRIEL’S RAPTURE (Part II) 💗
“- It was Christa Peterson.
- What? - Gabriel pulled back so he could see her face.
- Christa accused me of exchanging sexual favors with you for academic benefits.
- WHAT?
As Julia hurriedly described the nature of David and Soraya's complaint and arguments, Gabriel's expression grew increasingly dark and dangerous. When she quoted David's final words, Gabriel took a big step back.
Stepping back, Gabriel slammed a fist into the wall. Then he withdrew his hand, making fragments of plaster and dust falling, and, as if that weren't enough, he quickly punched the wall twice more.” (Chapter 21)

Christa Pike: The Youngest American Woman Sentenced To Death
Christa Gail Pike is an American convicted murderer and was sentenced to death at only 20 years of age for a torture/ murder she committed when she was 18. Pike is said to have had a troubled childhood, she dropped out of school and was offered various government training programmes granted to those with low income. Pike began dating Taradyl Shipp. The couple developed an interest in the occult and devil worship.
Pike grew increasingly jealous of Colleen Slemmer, a classmate she thought was trying to steal her boyfriend. Friends of Colleen's state she had no such attentions. Regardless, Shipp and Pike became obsessed with the idea that Colleen should be 'sacrificied in the name of Satan.' Along with a friend, Shadolla Peterson, Pike lured Colleen to an isolated place near the University of Tennessee campus.
On 12th January 1995, Pike, Peterson, Ship and Colleen signed out of the dormitory. Colleen was under the impression they were going to make peace with her by offering her marijuana. When Colleen arrived at the location Peterson acted as a lookout while Pike and Shipp attacked her. Colleen was taunted, beaten, slashed and a pentagram had been carved into her chest. Finally, Pike slammed Colleen's skull with a rock, killing her. Pike kept a piece of her victim's skull as a trophy.
Pike began to show off, even showing the piece of Colleen's skull, to others around the school. Within 36 hours, the three were arrested. Pike was found to have part of the skull in her jacket pocket. The logbook showed four of them left but only three returned. Pike confessed to torturing and killing Colleen but claimed she had just been trying to scare her and not kill her.
Pike was charged and found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, she was sentenced to death and remains on death row. Shipp received a life sentence. Peterson, who became an informant for a more lenient sentence, received probation for being an accessory to the crime.
While in prison in August 2001, Pike attacked and attempted to strangle a fellow inmate, almost succeeded in choking her to death.

some information on TERF dogwhistles — TW: transmisogyny, transphobia, s*xual abuse mentions and s*icide/baiting mentions
i’m going to use this short and concise guide on spotting TERF ideology as a jumping off point. from Cambridge university’s women campaign:
HOW DO WE SPOT IT?
Terf ideology uses a lot of the same phrases and tropes, which often seem innocuous on the surface but are actually being used as dogwhistles for transphobia and transmisogyny. Overall, terf ideology hides itself in feminist language, often claiming to support trans rights while actually working to undermine them.
“Gender critical”, discussed above; terfs also often dub themselves “biological women” or “adult human females”, and frequently highlight biological and anatomical signifiers such as “XX” (denoting chromosomes) and parts of reproductive anatomy.
“RadFem”; terf ideology calls itself “radical feminism” after its origins in parts of the feminist ‘second wave’ and its opposition to what it sees as “liberal feminist” positions of trans inclusion, although in reality there’s nothing “radical” about biological essentialism.
Certain waves of terf ideology have attempted to separate trans people out from the rest of the LGBT+ community, so you might see references to the “LGB community” or “drop the T”.
Terfs often dub trans people and their allies the “transgender lobby” or “cult of transgenderism”.
They tend to dislike the term “cis” (non-trans), and often argue that the term ‘terf’ itself is “hate speech”, or a “misogynistic/lesbophobic slur”.
Current terf discourse places a lot of focus on trans children, perpetuating myths that children are being given surgery and hormones (“transing children is child abuse!”).
Another terf trope is painting trans women as predators who want access to women’s spaces so that they can harass and sexually assault cis women.
i’ve also compiled a list of a some other dogwhistles you might want to take into account:
on tumblr or twitter look out for URLs with heavy allusions to genitalia/uteruses/wombs/xx chromosomes
concern trolling - statements such as “we just have concerns” used to filibuster and put roadblocks in the way of genuine conversations about trans people. they are not concerns that will ever be appeased, they also divert the topic away from the issue at hand to purposely muddy the waters of the trans “debate”.
following on from the last point, referring to the issue of trans rights as a “debate” or “discourse”. it both delegitimises the urgency of trans liberation, reducing it down to a debate on a level playing field as well as dehumanising trans people.
“genital preferences are transphobic” - this is a phrase that supposedly originated within the trans community itself. it’s often used in TERF circles as an example of how unreasonable trans people are. it’s also been used to smear the trans community and say that this belief is a very common one amongst trans people, when in reality most of us take a much more nuanced position. to illustrate my point, these stickers were put up by TERFs who then claimed that trans people had made them:
“lost lesbian sisters” - usually in reference to trans-masculine people. the implication being that trans men are not really men but are actually lesbians “brainwashed” by the “trans agenda”
TRA(s) - stands for Trans Rights Activists. obviously there’s nothing wrong with being an activist for trans rights, this is just a specific abbreviation created by TERFs. this also goes beyond simply being an ally, it implies that trans activists are part of a well-funded and organised conspiracy.
41% - this one is really horrible. the National Centre for Transgender Equality surveyed 6,450 trans people and found that 41% of them had attempt s*icide, often due to being harassed and bullied because of their gender identity. TERFs will often weaponise this statistic to suggest that “choosing” to live as a gender other than the one you were assigned is bad for a person’s mental health. in more extreme cases, TERFs will use it as a blunt instrument against trans people suffering with mental illness and egg them on to “join the 41%”. source
TIM /TIF - TIM stands for Trans Identified Male, referring to trans-feminine people. TIF stands for Trans Identified Female and refers to trans-masculine people. i feel this doesn’t need much explanation, it’s simply misgendering.
i think i’ve exhausted most of the big ones, if anyone wants to add on to this it would be much appreciated. lastly i’d like to link to Katy Montgomerie’s youtube channel- she’s a trans woman who regularly talks about and debunks TERF rhetoric, particularly on twitter. her videos have been extremely helpful in compiling this list and getting to understand the ways in which the ideology perpetuates itself.
i highly recommend her series “TERF wars”, which is where she goes through all the transphobic nonsense she’s seen on twitter in the past week. also check out The XX factor, a podcast/stream where she and Christa Peterson discuss the rise of the gender critical “movement” in the UK. i especially recommend this to anyone who is confused about how the conversation around trans rights became so deeply toxic over the past 5 or so years.
thank you for reading, i hope this was as informative as i intended it to be.

- @cosmiclovcx

For someone who doesn't like to cook (and who rarely cooks), I sure own a lot of cookbooks; I love seeing all the different foods that can be made. In my ventures through the cookbook aisles, I've noticed some with less-than-typical main ingredients, cooking methods, and themes. This weekend, I'm sharing with you a sampling of the most unusual—in one way or another—cookbooks out there.
Tonight: strange ingredients, unusual cooking methods, and unlikely author-chefs.
Strange Ingredients
Twinkies
Everyone's favorite little Hostess treats have an official cookbook all their own, filled with recipes sent in by devoted fans. You might have tried deep-fried Twinkies before, but did you ever think to make Twinkie sushi?
Poison
Prof. Ebenezer Murgatroyd's 1951 tome, Cooking to Kill! The Poison Cook-book, includes comic illustrations by Herb Roth alongside recipes intended for "the Ghoul, Cannibal, Witch, and Murderer."
Creepy Crawlies
According to the authors of these cookbooks, bugs are healthy for you because they're full of protein. And you save money because you can find the ingredients for free in your backyard! 1998 must have been the pinnacle of the bug-dining trend, because both The Eat a Bug Cookbook and Creepy Crawly Cuisine came out that year.
Other "Exotic" Ingredients
If you're intrigued by the thought of eating bizarre ingredients but don't want to limit yourself to just bugs, check out Christa Weil's Fierce Food, which includes boiled sheep's head, dried clay, and embryonic duck eggs in addition to your run-of-the-mill insects.
Roadkill
You'd think roadkill wouldn't be a very popular main ingredient, but there are several guides to cooking with animals found by the wayside. B.R. "Buck" Peterson's The Original Road Kill Cookbook is, well, the original.
Unusual Methods
Sans Electricity
Whether your power has gone out due to a hurricane or because it's the apocalypse, you'll still need to eat. Both The Storm Gourmet and Apocalypse Chow! instruct you in the fine art of cooking and dining with no electricity.
On Your Car Engine
Manifold Destiny was first published in 1989 by a photographer and a travel writer. The cult classic, re-released in 1998, tells you how to cook on the go by placing food on your engine block. Diesel Dining was written by a truck driver, who teaches his fellow long-haul truckers how they can still have hot and healthy food without taking long breaks from their routes.
In the Nude
Debbie and Stephen Cornwell have released a whole series of "Cooking in the Nude" books, starting with Playful Gourmets and even including one For Golf Lovers. The cook-in-the-buff recipes, which fall under categories such as "Appeteasers," are "intended for lovers and potential lovers. Excessive use of this book may result in loss of sleep." You won't find many desserts included, though, as the authors expect you'll be too busy with other, ahem, pursuits.
Unlikely Author-Chefs
Coolio
Cookin' with Coolio, which promises "5 Star meals at a 1 Star Price," includes "Ghetto Gourmet" gems such as "Bro-Ghetti" and "Chicken Lettuce Blunts" along with a healthy serving of slang and a side of expletives.
A Serial Killer
Dorothea Puente was charged with killing 9 men in the 1980s, though she was only convicted of killing 3. (She always maintained the men, tenants at her boarding house, died of natural causes.) Shane Bugbee's 2004 cookbook, Cooking with a Serial Killer includes an interview and Puente's prison artwork alongside some 50 recipes.
Heavy Metal Musicians
In 2009, Annick "Morbid Chef" Giroux published Hellbent for Cooking; a year later, Steve Seabury's Mosh Potatoes landed on bookshelves. Both feature recipes by the heavyweights of heavy metal, with backstage stories and liner notes mixed in throughout Mosh Potatoes.
