“I saw you eyeing that woman at Seventy Nines.”
Rex glances up from his datapad and flushes, rubbing the back of his neck. Fives grins down at Rex, arms crossed over his chest, one hip slightly popped.
“It was nothing,” mutters Rex, stepping around Fives’ comment.
The corner of Fives’ mouth quirks as he tries to hide a knowing smile. “Nothing? You were practically drooling,” laughs Fives, gently tossing his helmet on the bunk next to Rex’s. “Why didn’t you approach her?”
Rex blinks, confused. “Why would I?”
Fives shakes his head. “She was staring at you too, Captain. We all saw it.”
Rex looks back at the datapad, wanting to be done with this conversation. “And if I talked to her, what then?”
Fives shrugs. “You talk to a beautiful woman. Flirt a bit.” Fives leans in and Rex glances up from the datapad. “Slip into a dark corner for some—”
“That’s enough, Fives,” interjects Rex, his stomach twisting with understanding.
Fives pats Rex’s shoulder and then plops down next to Rex in the bunk. “This war is going to end. What do you plan to do after its over?”
What is he going to do? Rex hasn’t even thought about it. Hasn’t given the idea any life. Rex is a soldier of the Republic. Duty comes first. It always does. Thinking about the future when that future is entirely uncertain will only create heartache in the end.
“Haven’t thought about it,” answers Rex truthfully. Maybe Fives will drop this, and Rex can return to reading the latest war reports.
“Why not?” asks Fives, clearly not interested in moving on.
Rex’s grip on the sides of the datapad tightens.
Why not? Because fantasizing about the future in any capacity leaves Rex vulnerable and open to the realities of his situation. His family are his fellow clones. They are his brothers. All the family he needs is right here. Why would he ever need to consider anything beyond what is already in front of him?
“I don’t see the point,” answers Rex. “We don’t know when this war will end.” He pauses. “And some days we aren’t sure if we’ll even see tomorrow.”
Fives snorts. “That’s the whole reason why you should.”
“Fives—”
“We’re alive, Rex. We are people and we feel. We may serve the Republic, but we deserve to dream like the citizens we protect.” Fives reaches for his helmet and holds it reverently in his lap, the front side facing him. “In peacetime, we deserve a bit of happiness.”
Rex is silent a moment before he speaks. “Are you not happy now, Fives?”
Fives glances up and grins. “I’m happy, Rex. But happiness during peacetime is…different. I want to know what that looks like for us. Dreaming about it isn’t wrong.”
Rex didn’t say that it was wrong, but he’s not going to point that out to Fives.
Fives taps the edge of the helmet against his knee, sighing as he stands. “I’ll leave you to your boring war reports, Rex.” At the door, Fives turns, and grins mischievously. “Next time, if she’s there, you’re talking to her.”
The door to the room whooshes open, and Fives disappears into the hall. When it shuts, Rex is left in the lingering silence, the only sound that of the air filtration system. It hums softly, a dull buzz in the background.
Whenever his mind drifts toward the future—which is almost never—Rex rarely allows himself to linger. Maybe it’s because of his position, and that there are thousands counting on him to lead them. So many of his brothers look to him for guidance, even ones from other sections of GAR. He and Cody are always discussing strategies and offering advice.
Rex tries to live in the moment, to focus on what matters right now. But what Fives said is sinking in, lurking at the back of his mind, and drawing his attention away from the datapad in his hands.
This room is a small barracks area, one for captains and other ranked members of the Clone Army can go to rest. No one else is in here. It’s just him. They’re stationed on Coruscant, waiting to depart for a months long campaign. Rex and the rest of the 501st have some time to relax before returning to the battlefield.
Yes, they did go to 79’s last night. Yes, Rex may have had one too many strong drinks. And yes, Rex couldn’t stop staring at the woman giving him flirtatious glances all night.
Rex might be a clone but he’s still a man.
Locking the datapad, Rex sighs heavily, placing it on the edge of the bed. Tiredness sits in his bones, and Rex gives in to the exhaustion, bringing his legs onto the bunk and laying on his back. He stares at the bunk above him, at the smooth, plain metal, and tries his best to forget everything.
Tries is the key word.
Rex does try, but he cannot stop thinking about Fives and what he said.
He slips unexpectedly, falling into that space, considering the future.
The woman Rex pictures in his mind is faceless. He does not consider her features, or what her hair might be like. He does not consider whether this fictional woman is human or Twi’lek or any other species. Instead, Rex contemplates what he needs in someone else. Would she be soft and kind, someone to smooth out his sharp edges, to help him forget the realities of war, and linger in a calmness that soothes his soul? Or is she sharp witted, adventurous, willing to explore the galaxy and isn’t afraid of danger?
Or is she something else entirely?
Rex floats in the possibilities, of what this woman might be like and what she’d mean to him. Would General Skywalker want to meet her? Would he approve? Is it even allowed to him after the war ends? Will the clones have the right to enjoy the things the citizens of the Republic do?
These questions form in his head quickly but evaporate just as fast. Rex imagines warm arms around him, of knowing that there is always someone waiting for him, to share in all his failures and successes. It is a wonderful sensation, a calming sense of peace that ushers into his head and curls itself around him to take hold.
The physical isn’t entirely important to Rex, but he considers it anyway. He conjures up multiple images, giving the faceless woman hair then lekku then hair again, even picturing the woman he couldn’t stop glancing at while at 79’s. These thoughts bring the woman in his head to life a bit more, as if he’s stoking a fire, protecting the flame from extinguishing.
With his eyes closed, Rex imagines soft hands holding his, moving to his wrists and arms to eventually cradle his cheek. Rex sighs audibly, pretending that there is someone next to him in this bed, curled up against his side with their head on his chest.
But when he reaches across his chest to seek this someone out, his fingers only find empty air.
Rex’s eyelids slowly open, and a heaviness fills his chest. This is why Rex does not entertain thoughts of the future. This is why he lives in the present moment and focuses on the immediate needs of his soldiers and the Republic.
It’s self-indulgent. Unnecessary. That is what Rex tells himself as he turns on his side and tries to find some sleepful peace in the dark.
These streets are a maze, and Rex is utterly lost.
His personal communicator is crushed, and there are slavers on his trail. General Skywalker has no idea that Rex is being pursued. He has no idea that Rex took a blaster shot to the leg or that he’s limping along as he attempts to hide from his assailants.
This is supposed to be an undercover job, a way to figure out where an entire village full of Twi’leks were taken to after disappearing. While General Skywalker pretends to be a slaver interested in buying, Rex’s job is to find another way into where the Twi’leks are being held.
The whole thing fell apart. Crashed. Burnt up like an asteroid entering the atmosphere.
Behind him, his pursuers shout, and people scream. They’re closer than before, and Rex needs to find shelter. He needs to throw them off and return to General Skywalker.
He slips in a puddle, nearly stumbling into a pile of trash.
“Kriffing hell,” mutters Rex, staggering, placing one hand against the side of a building to balance himself.
His chest heaves and his leg is screaming, needing to rest.
Their pounding footsteps grow closer, and Rex takes off, dragging his leg along as he turns the corner. It’s shadowy here, and the street is long and narrow. There is nothing for him to hide in or around. The street is lined with residential buildings. There are entry doors and a few windows on the bottom level, but that won’t give him protection.
Desperation sinks in. Rex tries a few of the nearby doors, receiving no response.
There is a shout from the direction of where Rex just came from. “This way!”
Rex growls with frustration. He turns away from the door of one house, only to freeze when he notices the young woman in an open doorway.
“In here. Quickly.”
Rex glances back once and considers the alternative.
Kriff it, he thinks, entering the dimly lit home, the door whooshing shut behind him. Rex’s leg almost gives out beneath him, a sharp pain shooting up his side. He grunts, starts to double over, and his potential savior comes to him, placing their hands upon him gently.
Realizing that there is another person, Rex glances up quickly, the instinct to survive flaring white and hot and bright.
He finds…you.
And it is not what he expects. Because—no. Rex smothers the thought immediately.
There is a shout right outside the door, and you place a firm hand on Rex’s chest, easing him down toward the floor while holding a single finger up for silence. Rex doesn’t say a word, his gaze flicking between you and the door, and back again.
The voices soften, and then Rex doesn’t hear them at all.
When you sigh with relief, Rex relaxes a bit, knowing that he’s been spared some extra time.
But you? You are a mystery to him. Friend? Or foe?
“You’re hurt.” It’s not a question and Rex immediately likes the sound of your voice. “Heard the shouts,” you continue. “Saw you limping.”
Rex swallows. “Why are you helping me?”
Your smile is soft with a hint of mischievousness. “Do you think I like living amongst slavers?”
Rex shrugs. “Wasn’t really on my mind,” he admits.
“That’s fair,” you laugh. “They rarely treat the people who live here much different from the people they sell. I don’t mind disrupting things for them when I can.”
Friend, then.
Rex can work with that.
You glance down at his leg and frown. Your hand hovers just above the spot where the blaster bolt struck his thigh. Rex grimaces as the pain flares anew, like it knows he’s finally safe and demands immediate treatment.
“Can you stand on it?” you ask gently, placing one hand on Rex’s shoulder. Your palm is warm and a flood of comfort bursts inside him like a dam breaking.
What is it about you that’s different? Why does his body respond to you like he’s safe when his brain can’t seem to make the same connection?
Rex knows but stifles the thought again.
“Was running on it,” jokes Rex, trying to make light of that fact that the pain is a throbbing thing that won’t cease.
The smile you give him is so tooth-rottenly sweet that Rex feels heat warming his cheeks.
“Humor. That’s good.” You lean in a bit and Rex is immediately flustered by your closeness. “Means you’ll live.”
You present your hands, palms upward. They look so soft, so inviting, and Rex accepts. You help him to a fully seated position before sliding an arm around his waist to assist him to his feet. Rex drapes an arm over the back of your shoulders as the two of you hobble along.
You lead Rex into a small bedroom. The bed itself is unmade; the sheets tossed around like you’ve slipped out just to come to his rescue. For some reason, Rex pictures this happening, and then quickly dismisses it.
Easing onto the bed is hell, and Rex winces as you help him to his back. Thankfully, Rex isn’t wearing his armor, which will make tending to the wound much easier.
“May I take a look?”
Rex nods and you seat yourself next to him on the edge of the bed. When your hands touch his thigh, a shiver runs through him like an electrical current. You hum softly as you lightly press around the spot of the burn. Rex tries to stay calm, but in this prone position, Rex is only focused on your face.
He learns the line and curves, all your small tells, and the subtle way you tilt your head as you observe him. On Kamino—on any Republic vessel really—most of the medical care is run by droids, Kaminoans, and clones. It is mainly automated. Impersonal.
This isn’t.
You’re so close and delicate, taking so much care with him that Rex is void of words, only wanting you to keep giving him this attention. That memory, the one where he imagined what he wants creeps up unexpectedly, choking him.
Is this the feeling that Fives talked about? Is this the pull, the tug of what it means to try and find happiness outside of just duty to the Republic? Or is Rex only indulging himself while in the hands of a stranger?
“I have some bacta spray and bandages. I’ll be back in a moment.” When you stand, a momentary wave of panic grips Rex out of nowhere, stunning him.
What the kriffing hell is going on with him?
You’re back within a minute, placing the small box next to you as you return to your previous spot on the bed. Rex is instantly calm, relaxing as you consider where you want to begin.
“Could—” you pause. “It would be easier if the pants weren’t in the way. I can cut them or—”
“It’s fine,” replies Rex. “I can…remove them.”
Your eyes widen. “No. I didn’t mean—”
“Oh—”
“But if you want—”
“It’s—”
“I can cut it.”
“Yes,” nods Rex, relieved. “Yes.” Rex could start a fire with how hot his cheeks are.
With delicate fingers, you slowly cut away a perfect rectangle in his pants where the blaster burn is. Placing the cutters aside, you remove the bacta spray from the box.
“It’ll be cold.”
“I know,” answers Rex quickly.
Your eyebrows rise toward your hairline. “Is it normal for you to be hit by blaster fire?”
Kriff me.
“It’s a hazard of the job,” says Rex slowly.
Your lips part like you’re about to say something and then think better of it. “I won’t ask.” Your smile speaks to quiet amusement, and it feels like this one look is only for him. That this is something the two of you are sharing. That no one else is allowed to see inside.
The hiss of the bottle fills the room, and Rex momentarily flinches as the bacta spray hits his burn. Once done, you withdraw a gauze pad. With the other hand, you gently reach for Rex, lifting his own hand.
“Hold this for me,” you murmur, and the sound of your voice is so soft that Rex cannot resist your command.
Rex does as you ask, keeping the gauze pad pressed to the covered blaster burn. You unspool some bandages, and then begin wrapping his leg. You do not go over the pants. Instead, you slide your hand into the opening you created, guiding the end of the bandages underneath to the other side of his thigh.
It all feels too intimate, and Rex can’t help but linger on how close your hand is to something else.
“You can move your hand now.”
“Right,” mutters Rex, blinking quickly, trying to stare at the ceiling but failing completely.
Your subdued giggle draws his attention back to your face. Tying off the bandages, Rex mourns the loss of your hands when you draw away.
“All done.” You grin, and Rex melts. “I’ll grab you water and something to eat. We can talk after. Figure out a plan.”
We, as if it’s completely natural for you to help him, a stranger.
You bring him water first, and then go back to the small cooking unit, digging around for a pan to cook with while also grabbing ingredients. You shouldn’t do this for him, and yet you are. Rex’s military training tells him to be on guard, to be weary of you even if you’re showing him kindness. But that doesn’t sit right with him. Questioning your motivations taste wrong on his tongue, like he’s the bad person in this situation.
Watching you there next to the cooking unit, tending to him, it draws forth those memories again. Everything about this is too…domestic. Him reclining in bed as someone takes care of him for once is such a foreign thing. Odd. Almost forbidden.
He drifts, allows his mind to daydream of what a life like this could be like. With him, at rest for once, and someone close to him, wanting to do things for him just because they desire to do so.
But Rex doesn’t just think of someone. He thinks of you, and he sinks further and further into the daydream until the Republic, the war, and everything else in his life is a distant point in the galaxy.
But Rex needs to find General Skywalker. And you are a distraction. Healing is important but contacting Skywalker is even more urgent.
The meal you bring him is hot and so kriffing fresh that Rex nearly moans with pleasure. He could get used to this.
“Is it too intrusive to ask why you were running?” you ask, clasped hands resting in your lap. You’re sitting in the same spot on the edge of the bed, not opting to grab a chair or to sit anywhere else.
“I was poking around where I shouldn’t. Got caught.” Rex takes another bite and it’s better than the last.
“Are you alone? Or is there someone I can try to contact for you?” You shrug. “Don’t think it’s a good idea to turn you loose in the streets.”
“No,” laughs Rex. “Bad idea.” Your slightly embarrassed smile pleases him. While Rex ponders that, he also realizes he doesn’t know your name. “Here I am eating your food and sleeping in your bed. And I didn’t ask you your name.”
You give it without question and ask him the same. Rex considers whether or not he should tell you his real name or the fake one General Skywalker gave him for the job.
“It’s Rex,” he finally answers.
“Rex,” you say, as if rolling it around on your tongue, considering it and him, almost testing it out. Rex likes the way you say it. There is a soft sigh in the way you breathe his name. “Rex.”
“Just Rex.”
“Okay, Just Rex.”
He nearly chokes with laugher on the next bite of food. Once he clears his throat, Rex decides to be as honest as he can. “I’m traveling with someone. I need to find them.”
“I’ll go,” you say. “You shouldn’t leave.” Even though you’re staring at him, you still reach out and place a hand on his knee. You don’t break eye contact, and the earnestness is startling.
Rex gives you General Skywalker’s fake name and where you might find him. “It might be dangerous,” he says, trying to iterate the severity of the situation.
You squeeze his knee with a smile and stand, going to the closet to dig around. When you turn around, you hold up a large blaster. “I can handle myself.”
Using the strap, you secure it over your chest, the blaster hanging to the side. “I’ll be back. Don’t open the door for anyone.” You give him a little salute and Rex watches you leave through the front door.
The healing agent in the bacta spray and the need for rest creeps up. When the food is gone, Rex places the bowl to the side, slipping back into the daydream.
“Sleeping, Rex?”
Rex nearly launches himself off the bed. “General Skywalker,” he breathes, relief flooding his chest.
In the small doorway, you stand quietly, hands clasped tightly in front of your chest. You found him and even brought Skywalker with you.
He stops next to the side of the bed. “Glad you’re okay.”
Rex shrugs. “You would have come for me eventually.”
General Skywalker grins and nods his head. “That I would, Rex. I don’t like leaving my men behind. Especially you.” He glances at you standing in the doorway, and then turns back to Rex, one eyebrow arching in question. Rex nods, acknowledging Skywalker’s silent ask.
He exhales and approaches you. “Thank you. For taking care of my friend.” General Skywalker’s inclines his head in your direction.
“Of course. It’s nothing. Really.”
Skywalker holds out his hand and Rex clasps it. He drags Rex up to a seated position. “How’s the leg?”
“It’ll heal,” answers Rex. It’s already feeling better with the bacta spray on it.
“Can you walk?”
Rex stands. Wobbles. Remains upright. “I can manage, General.”
Skywalker glances at Rex’s torn pants. “We need to fix that.” He starts to remove his outer cloak and Rex shakes his head. “Don’t question it, Rex.”
Rex reluctantly grabs the cloak from General Skywalker and wraps it around himself, hiding the blaster burn. You step out of the way of the door to allow them exit. Rex’s glances at you and your lips turn upward.
At the door, Rex pauses, wanting to stay just a few minutes longer. “Thank you,” he says softly.
“Just avoid blaster bolts. If you can. For me.”
The back of Rex’s neck heats up and he exits the small house with a nod of his head. When the door whooshes shut, General Skywalker’s muted grin turns devilish.
“What?” asks Rex, flustered.
“You like her,” says Skywalker.
“I—I don’t.” Rex straightens his shoulders. “Why do you think that?”
General Skywalker taps the side of his head with one finger. “Jedi.”
“Sir. That explains nothing.”
“The feeling is mutual, Rex,” calls Skywalker over his shoulder as he starts walking down the street.
Rex nearly trips. “What’s mutual?” he asks, already knowing what his general means but not wanting to admit it to himself. General Skywalker gestures in the direction of your home. “No,” blurts Rex. “That’s not true.”
General Skywalker’s knowing grin is enough to silence him.
“You’ll see her again, Rex. I have a good feeling about it.”
“You’re doing a good thing, Rex. Even if you can’t always see it.” Your fingers slide over his jaw to gently cup his cheek. Rex leans into the touch, sighing heavily. “Saving one is an accomplishment, and you have rescued so many.”
After the Republic fell, and Rex and Ahsoka parted ways, he came to find you, only to bring you along with him on his journey to save his brothers’. You’re not on the frontlines, standing by his side in Imperial complexes, executing daring rescues. Rex wouldn’t allow that of you even if you insisted. You’re good with a blaster but you’re no soldier and losing you might shatter him.
Instead, you stay on Coruscant, awaiting each of his returns, ready to take care of, and look after, any clones Rex brings back with him. You never complain. Never waiver. You are his rock, a home for him to find a bit of peace from the unending injustices of the galaxy.
With your hand upon his cheek, you lean into him, resting your forehead against the side of his temple. “You’re a good man, Rex. I know that you know that.”
Rex’s fingers intertwine with yours. Bringing your hand up to his face, he gently kisses every knuckle and each finger. Sighing, you press lightly on his cheek, guiding Rex’s face in your direction. There is no brief pause or wanton hesitation. Rex knows where he stands with you, and his lips meet with your own in perfect satisfaction.
The future he dreamed of is here, with you, while rescuing his brothers.
The Empire is vast. It is powerful. But he is not alone. And that, the shared experience of companionship, is a hope in the face of a looming darkness.

Also, hi it’s nice to meet you :) This was originally going to be just fluff but my hands slipped and they went all the way so I hope you don’t mind. P.S. This is the first time I write for our dear Captain so I hope I got his character down correctly. If not, please let me know how I can write him better. As always, reblogs are appreciated.

It was becoming unbearable, mustering up the courage to fight every day in a war that meant absolutely nothing, that held no benefits for anyone except for those in political standings. The feeling of dread only worsened in the past few months, almost as soon as you were added to the 501st as another General. Count Dooku’s thirst for blood has increased, and you had this fear that it wasn’t only him. No, there was something much bigger playing at hand.
Perhaps someone even.
Shaking the dreadful thoughts aside, you scan the grounds quickly to see if any of your men were still alive. As you walk through the carnage, you will yourself to come to terms with the reality of this new life that has been thrust upon you, the recognition that it was most likely worse for your men making you wince angrily before returning to the task at hand.
“General,” the familiar voice of your Captain shifts your attention behind you, and you nod with an exasperation you’re sure is visible to him as you head towards his equally fatigued body.
“Any news on whether Anakin managed to get the intel?” You rub the side of your temple as you wait for Captain Rex to focus on you instead of his dead brothers surrounding you.
“He uh, he didn’t get there in time. He thinks one of the super tactical droids destroyed everything before it self-destructed.” You can hear the disappointment in his voice, and you look into his eyes for a moment to gauge his reaction. Grief swims in his eyes as he returns your gaze, and you hate that you don’t have to look at him to know what’s going through his mind. His Force signature is a cool shade of blue, one that parallels the lines adorning his armor, and your heart clenches when you see how different it is from the normally calming purple hue often surrounding him and setting your mind at ease. You’re reminded once again of just how much of a toll this war is taking on him and his brothers, and you turn away from him out of fear of bursting into tears and making matters worse.
If only you could comfort him beyond what’s deemed appropriate.
If only you could tell him how you feel.
“Don’t worry General, we’ll get them next time.” You hate that he’s trying to make you feel better when it is you who should be offering him supporting words. No words manage to part your lips, and you hum at him as you kick one of the battle droids nearby, trying to distract yourself from pushing past those hidden boundaries and embracing him in an attempt to return those affections he so clearly pushed upon you.
Just as you walk around him, you sense a strange feeling overtake your mind, and you glance to the side quickly, not really thinking of what you’re doing as you step in front of the Captain and activate your lightsaber. The sequence of the blaster shots drives your anger deeper, and you evade them to the best of your abilities, away from Rex and yourself until they each hit the battle droid attempting to kill you.
Scanning the area one last time, your mouth runs dry when you turn around and watch pure and utter shock display as clear as daylight on your Captain’s features. Pushing the weapon back into the holster around your hips, you smile at him to let him know that he would always be safe with you, only to tilt your head in confusion when he doesn’t return the gesture. You follow his line of sight and watch as the adrenaline of the battle leaves your body and makes way for a searing hot pain shooting through your side. Pushing your palm against your hip, you take it away and find it laced with fresh blood.
“C-Commander?”
In all the time you have spent with Rex, you have never once heard him display such unadulterated fear, not when he was near death all those months ago, nor when he thought there was no escape for him and his brothers after a particularly draining battle.
“Rex.”
You whisper his name as you fall to your knees, but strong arms reach for you before you hit the ground, turning you over and pushing violently against the wound to prevent it from bleeding.
“Kriff, why- why would you…you shouldn’t have-” He can’t get a single word out, and you try your best to set aside the pain shooting through your body so you can enjoy being in his arms. You feel your muscles give out, barely allowing you to reach up and caress his cheek. You don’t realize you’ve painted his beautiful skin with blood until you see tears rolling down his cheeks and stream a pink line to his chin.
“You’re s-safe, thank the Force.” His hold on you tightens when you hiss in pain, but you never once turn away from him, wanting to commit every moment to memory. If you survive this, you are sure you will never come this close to him again. But if you die, oh, if you die, then you would have spent your last seconds showing him how much he means to you.
“Stay with me, mesh’la.” He leans down and rests his forehead against your own, distracting you enough before he lifts you in his arms and runs to the nearest gunship. You clutch onto his shoulder like your life depends on it, unable to hold back from crying as each movement sends throbbing stabs down your spine and across your hip. You can faintly hear his apologies, and you rest your head against his shoulder to distract yourself once again. This close, you can smell his natural scent, and you shiver when you recognize how musky and sweet it is as it seeps through your senses.
You think you hear him call for Kix, but you can’t stay awake for much longer, the blood loss and your body’s fatigued nature taking over as soon as you get on the gunship. Rex puts you down with ease, but he snaps your name harshly when he sees you shutting your eyes and going limp in his arms again.
“Don’t close your eyes,” it’s his Captain voice, and you laugh at the demanding tone he’s aiming at you, only to cough violently and clutch at your side when your body jolts forward.
“I thought I g-give the orders here?” He doesn’t bother to smile at you, and you hate that he knows you’re only trying to diffuse the tension. When you look up at him, you find him frowning down at you, the blue aura around him now turning even darker as he looks around to see if Kix is nearby.
You gulp as the ship comes to life, and the harder you try to remain awake, the more tired your mind becomes. As you look around you, you find several of the men staring at you with worry etched on their features, and you feel a sense of peace wash over you at the thought of being so important to them. You can no longer keep yourself conscious, and just as you turn your head to the side and see Kix jumping into the gunship, you surrender to a deep sleep filled with midnight blue embraces and loving words.
A bright light wakes you from your haze, and you flutter your eyes quickly to get used to the blinding rays shining down on you. You try to get up immediately but a hand to your shoulder keeps you laying down, and you look to the side to see Kix whispering calming words to you.
“You nearly gave us a fright Commander,” he says after a while, and you look around to try and figure out where you are, only to find an extremely uncomfortable and worried Captain standing by your bed.
“Rex…”
“What were you thinking, hmm?” He snaps harshly at you, making you furrow your eyebrows in curiosity before you turn to Kix. Before you can say anything, Kix walks around and pushes Rex’s chest, urging him to move back and calm himself.
“You may be the Captain, but I outrank you here. I will not have you yelling at one of my patients. Understand?” His tone is firm, and you giggle at the thought of hearing one of Rex’s men not minding getting physical with him.
“I…feel weird.” You sigh deeply and look down, only to see several tubes coming in and out of your skin.
“That would be the Bacta IV. You weren’t doing so well Commander, a simple bacta patch wouldn’t have done the trick.” Kix removes himself from Rex but remains in between the two of you, checking on the needles one last time before moving to the other end of the room. You watch as he makes himself busy, and whatever conscious part of your mind thinks that he’s only pretending so he can give the two of you some privacy.
“To answer your question Captain, I- uhhh…I wasn’t thinking.” You drag the sheets down your body, suddenly feeling flushed as Rex continues to stare at you with a fiery anger you never thought him capable of.
“Actually, that’s…n-not true. I was thinking…but- you know what I mean.” You are not making much sense, and when Rex sighs before pulling up a chair to sit next to you, you smile at you and reach for his hand. He takes it reluctantly but never once looks at you. Neither of you say anything for a while, and you slowly begin to fall asleep when he continues to rub your wrist with his thumb.
“What were you thinking mesh’la…”
It’s a rhetorical question, or at least, you would have recognized that it is had you been more aware and less drugged. You open your eyes and gaze into his own, finding them filled with unshed tears. He looks defeated, and you frown at him while you tug on his hand to bring him closer to you.
“Don’t…don’t cry. It makes me sad to see you cry Rex.”
He chuckles then and you smile at him, rubbing the back of his hand in return to soothe him a little.
“I was thinking of you, and- and how it would kill me if I were to lose you. I can’t lose you Rex, I- I would not survive another day without you…I love you too much to let you go.” You’re not sure why the room is suddenly silent. All you know is, Rex’s Force signature has turned a deep shade of red and his fingers stopped drawing patterns on your skin. You think you hear Kix turn around but you’re too busy looking into the Captain’s eyes to register anything that’s not him.
“Mesh’la,” you want to ask him what the word means, but your eyes grow heavy yet again, and you rest your cheek on the pillow while gazing into his hazel, brown orbs. Before you can say anything else, you fall right back to sleep, completely missing Rex’s reaction to your confession and Kix’s reassurances that you were stable but required to rest further.
You dream of a time filled with peace, of longing gazes and soft caresses. Your mind fills your heart with hopes and wishes, ones you pretend are not impossible to reach. Your heart, once guarding a close-kept secret, finally feels as light as a feather, and it clenches softly when it hears revelations of a similar love, words yo uneven thought would be reciprocated as desperately.
It’s this last sensation that wakes you again, except this time, you’re less dazed than before but much more awake. Sitting up quickly, you study the room you’re in and take a few deep breaths to try and collect your bearings.
“Commander, you’re safe. You’re alive and safe. Breathe, breathe for me.” You look up and watch as Kix guides you through breathing techniques, and only when you’re relaxed and aware of your surroundings do you finally notice the other figure standing nearby.
“How long have I been out?” You ask as you look down and move the medbay gown to the side to see the wound. It’s fully healed and you throw Kix a quick glance, silently thanking him for everything that he has done for you.
“Almost 22 hours, sir. It’s quite remarkable actually, most people would take much longer to heal, even with the bacta. Then again, you’re a Jedi after all.” He checks your vitals, not bothering to mention that Rex is in the room. When he’s sure you’re all clear, he steps aside and finishes some reports on his holopad. You look to your right and watch as Rex slowly approaches you, sitting down on a chair near your bedside and slowly reaching for your hand. You’re surprised by the gesture but don’t deny him, looking back to Kix to see if he is aware of what his Captain is doing.
“How are you feeling?”
“Like a bantha ran me over,” you laugh at your own reply, but Rex doesn’t grace you with a hint of a smile. There is something nagging at the back of your mind, and you narrow your eyes at your joined hands, only to gasp lightly when he rubs your wrist and moves closer to you. If Kix notices what’s happening, he says nothing and turns around to give you some privacy.
“Do you…do you remember anything?” Rex asks reluctantly, and you get the sense that he wants to tell you something but is holding back out of fear of your reaction.
“I remember walking through the battle, and…and talking with you. I remember a droid trying to shoot at you but I took him down before he hurt you. And…I remember getting shot at.” You recollect the events of the last rotation to the best of your abilities, and when you stop speaking, you notice Rex’s aura shift to a cool haze once more.
Kriff, what was it?
“You don’t remember anything else?” He asks yet again, and you tilt your head to the side in confusion, his tone of voice bordering that of a man who has just lost everything he ever had.
“I- I uhh…no. I don’t.” You shake your head several times to figure out if he was referring to anything specific. When you turn to Kix to ask him if he knows what his Captain is talking about, you notice an apologetic expression on his features, one that was not aimed at you but his brother. Before you can say anything, Rex lets go of your hands, making you wish you can give him whatever answer he was searching for.
“I see,” it’s all Rex says before he stands up and pushes the chair back to the wall. You watch as he takes a stance and salutes you, his eyes never meeting your own again as he thanks you for saving him before running out of the room. You don’t turn away from the shut door until Kix walks by and checks your vitals again.
There is so much you want to ask him, but knowing Kix, you get the sense that he wouldn’t tell you even if you begged. He was good at keeping secrets, always has been.
“You’re cleared to leave General, though I do suggest you take it easy for the next few days. You may have physically healed but the psychological strain will take longer to get back to normal. Will you be needing any pain medication?” Kix asks as he takes out all of the needles and tubes from your arms, and you shake your head while you look up at him, hoping that you find whatever answer Rex was looking for swimming in his eyes. He avoids your gaze altogether, and you shut your eyes in irritation at the thought of upsetting Rex.
Maker, what was it?
You do your best to not take your frustration out on Kix as you get dressed, and before you leave, you thank him for taking care of you for the past rotation. He offers you his best wishes before returning to his seat and you make your way back to your quarters in the Jedi Temple slowly, all the while trying to figure out what transpired that made Rex ask you several times if you remembered anything, but more importantly, what you could have possibly said that upset Rex so much and made him leave without sparing you a second glance.
You keep to yourself as you head to your rooms, searching your mind for any clue as to what has happened after the battle. When you finally make it to the privacy of your space, you remove all of your clothes and go straight to the refresher, wanting to get rid of the blood and grime that has stuck to your skin for the past day. But no matter what you do, you can’t remember anything past the battlefield, and you feel your mind almost collapse on itself when the annoyance of memory loss turns into sheer anger.
Force above, what was it?
It occurs to you much later than you would care to admit that there was no way you can recall anything if you’re this unstable, and against your better judgment, you make your way to one of the meditation rooms instead of getting some rest as Kix suggested. As soon as you enter the quiet place, you move near one of the fountains, finding the consistent sound of water soothing to your soul. As you sit down, you take a few deep breaths and clear your mind of anything not related to the Captain of the 501st.
As you initially thought, it’s much more difficult to focus your mind when all you can feel is guilt for making Rex feel so disappointed and sad. You recall back all of the conversations you’ve held with him, especially the ones that lasted for an entire night as you kept watch before a serious battle. You remember the snide remarks aimed at Anakin, and the jokes he often laughed at the expense of Ahsoka. You remember and remember…
But no matter what you think of, you still can’t quite figure out what happened in the past rotation.
Willing yourself to focus harder, you decide to empty your mind altogether, even of those moments with Rex that you cherished and kept closely-guarded within your heart.
The Coruscanti sun slowly moves past the horizon but you remain seated against the flowing waters, pleading with the Force to give you a sliver of a hint so you can fix whatever wrong you made against Rex.
It’s only when your senses finally still do you see a faint dark red pass through your mind’s eye. You zero in on the memory, pushing yourself past your levels of comfort to seek out the desperate aura once again.
I was thinking of you.
Your voice rings through your mind, not sounding normal to your ears, but you are confident it is your own. Clenching your fists tightly, you seek out the memory until it flashes before your eyes as clear as the searing Twin Suns on a hot Tatooine day.
I can’t lose you Rex.
A faint sensation passes down your arm to your wrist, and you feel Rex’s thumb halt in its movement the more you reveal to him your secret. You can see his hands shaking as you pull him closer to you, the words spilling from your mouth making your heart skip a beat as realization washes over you.
I love you too much to let you go.
The last image flashing before your eyes is the look of utter shock that befalls Rex’s handsome features, and had it not been for the soft manner in which he whispers that one word to you in return, you would think he was completely repulsed by what you just confessed to him.
You open your eyes instantly, wincing yet again when your senses become overloaded with the sounds and scents all around you. Looking around the room, you take a few minutes to come to terms with the reality of what has transpired between yourself and the Captain.
Maker.
You had told him what you promised yourself you would never reveal to him.
In a moment of weakness, your heart decided to reveal its deepest secret instead of continuing to keep it hidden.
Looking outside the large glass windows, you notice how dark it became outside and curse yourself for taking so long to remember. It would be inappropriate to go to him now.
You look down to your hand and trace the skin Rex has touched all those hours ago, smiling to yourself when you recognize that your heart has already made the decision for you.
Not caring for how mad you must look, you race outside of the meditation rooms and run through the hallways of the Temple, ignoring the strange and concerning looks from the others still awake as you make it past the gates of your home and towards the barracks of the 501st Legion. It is raining uncontrollably outside, and you nearly lose your footing a few times as you run across the grounds towards the familiar building near the Jedi Temple. You see a handful of men hanging outside the barracks, and they try to call out to you to see if you need any assistance, but you pay them no mind, heading straight to the quarters of the Captain and ignoring how soaked you’ve become in your journey to him.
When you reach the hallways housing the Clone leaders, you slow down and move past the doors silently, praying to the maker that he was in his quarters and not elsewhere. As you reach the end of the hallway, you come to a stop in front of the large, steel doors housing Rex, and before you can think twice of what you’re doing, you push a few buttons on the pad beside the doors, waiting patiently for them to slide open to you.
There is a faint sound of frustrated sighs from behind the door, and you nearly laugh at the sudden turn of events, but the doors slide open and reveal an extremely tired and irritated Clone Captain, one that had just gotten out of the showers from the looks of it.
“Fives, if I have to tell you one more time- kriff, G-General!” His eyes widen in horror at the sight of you, and he walks out to the hallway to see if there are any signs of danger that led you to him. When he finds it as empty as ever, he turns back around and eyes you suspiciously.
“General, what- what are you doing here?” Rex asks, continuing to avoid your gaze as he moves back to his quarters and tugs you along with him. You realize too late that you probably shouldn’t be found at such an odd hour in your Captain’s private rooms, but you brush the thought aside, knowing that this could not wait for another time. You don’t respond right away though, and Rex studies you slowly before moving to his dresser and taking out a pair of sweatpants and a shirt.
“Here, change into these.” He throws the articles of clothing towards you, but you throw them back on the bed instantly, approaching him slowly to avoid scaring him.
“Captain.” You try to catch his attention, but Rex is adamant on not sparing you a single glance, moving to the other end of the room and grabbing one of his shirts before putting it on quickly.
“I don’t mind General,” he attempts to distract you, and you shake your head at him while following him around the small room.
“Captain, please.”
“You’re going to catch a cold, and I’m not going to hear the end of it from Kix.” Rex ignores whatever you’re saying and rubs his temples furiously, making you wish he would just look at you instead of avoiding you as if you were just another commanding officer.
As if you hadn’t spilled your heart out to him a day ago.
Your frustrations nearly get to you, but you quickly come to understand that the man in front of you would continue ignoring your pleas if you didn’t cut to the chase and tell him what you came here for.
“I remember.”
Rex stops in his pacing, dropping his arms to his side and looking at the gray wall ahead of him. He doesn’t move a muscle, and your heart skips a beat when the hue around him turns into that familiar shade of burgundy once more, the same one that graced your sight when you told him how much you love him.
“I remember, Rex.”
You repeat your words and watch as he slowly turns around and meets your eyes in a heated gaze. He continues to remain silent and you take the chance to step closer to him, hoping that he doesn’t get spooked by your revelation and walk away again.
“You- you remember?” His question is laced with a faltering anxiety that you hate you’ve caused him to feel, and you close the last bit of space between the two of you, smiling at him as you reach for his hand and rub your thumb over his wrist.
“I remember…I remember everything Rex.”
He gulps down at you, watching carefully as you extend his wrist up to your mouth and lay the softest of kisses across the sensitive skin beneath your thumb. His sharp intake of breath sends a shiver down your spine, and before you can say anything else, Rex pushes you back against the nearest wall and attacks your lips in a desperate kiss. You moan into him immediately, throwing your arms around his shoulders just as he leans down and grabs your hips to hoist you up in between his rigid body and the solid wall behind you.
You part your lips in a gasp and Rex takes advantage of your shock, sneaking his tongue into your mouth and devouring you without a care for anything except the lewd noises you are gracing him with. He doesn’t know where he can touch you, but as he feels your nail sink into his neck, he breaks the kiss and moans your name over and over again, giving you but a moment of respite before lunging for your mouth once again. You’re soaking wet, and you want to warn him so he doesn’t get wet as well, but he doesn’t let up once, moving down your jaw and licking the droplets of water sticking to your skin. His tongue feels hot against your already flushed skin, but you can’t find it in yourself to complain, not when you finally had him in your arms, stealing your breath with such needy kisses. You don’t realize you’re crying until he pulls away abruptly and looks at you with concern.
“No, please…don’t stop. I’m just- I’m so happy.” You try to bring him back again but he’s much stronger than you, keeping some bit of distance between your mouth until he can ask you that burning question.
“Are you sure I’m not hurting you, mesh’la?”
“No, gods no. I never thought you’d reciprocate my feelings Rex, and- and when I remembered the way you looked at me, I…I ran over here.” Your smile grows when you notice the soft smirk gracing his handsome features, and you lean your forehead against his own briefly to relish in the moment.
“I love you, cyare…so damn much. I- I thought I lost you back there…couldn’t, couldn’t believe what you did for me. And then you told me why and I nearly lost my mind all over again.” He lays as many kisses as possible across your entire face, making you sniffle each time he reveals to you what was going through his mind.
“I love you too Rex, have been ever since I joined your legion.” The sentiment manages to put a halt to his words and he looks at you for what you deem is too long before leaning down and taking your lips in between his own again. It’s much less frantic than before, but it is just as deeply felt, and you tilt your head to the side to deepen it further, whining against him when he removes the both of you from the wall and walks back to his bed.
He lays you down softly and continues to leave a trail of kisses down your neck, swearing beneath his breath when you reach for his shirt and try to remove it off of him.
“Rex, what- oh kriff, what does that word mean?” You manage to ask in between each kiss and nip he marks your body with, whispering his name over and over again when he chuckles at you and sits up to remove his shirt. You bite into your lower lip as soon as he reveals his broad chest to you, giggling like a little girl as Rex throws his shirt aside and drags his hand up and down your body.
“Why don’t I show you sweetheart?” The Captain descends down upon you possessively, dragging his hands everywhere with an aggressiveness you’ve never seen him display before. He has you whimpering in the span of a few minutes, and with each bit of fabric he rips from your body, you’re left wishing he would put you out of your misery and claim you.
“Please, Rex.” You beg shamelessly, covering your eyes with your arm when you’re left in nothing but your undergarments.
“Shh, I got you cyar’ika…I got you.” The Captain coos at you as he traces lines up and down your body, passing his fingers in between your thighs teasingly and laughing when he notices goosebumps erupt across your skin. You peak from above your wrist, only to find him studying you closely and with a hunger unseen on his features before.
“S-stop looking at me like that.” You turn your head to the side when he drags your arms away from your face and places them above your head, making you wish he wasn’t enjoying making you flustered.
“Like what?” He’s nearly breathless as he asks you the question, not caring for how wanton he looks as he hovers his lips above your sternum before slowly making his way down your stomach.
“Like…like-” You can’t find the words to tell him what he looks like, mostly because you know he’ll only laugh and reiterate whatever you say in agreement and cause you to feel even more embarrassed at being the subject of his scrutiny.
“Like I want to eat you? Like I want to devour every fucking inch of you? Like I want to mark you with my teeth and hands until the whole kriffing galaxy knows who’s making you feel good? Is that how I’m looking at you sweet girl?” He pronounces each question with a harsh bite to your skin, smiling wickedly at you as he descends between your thighs and shoves them wide open to make room for himself.
“Y-yes…I- oh gods please Rex, just- just…”
“I hate to break it to you ner cyare, but I will never,” he growls his need for you against the edge of your panties, biting down and chuckling when you twitch beneath him and reach for his shoulder, “ever,” his voice is much rougher, and you think that perhaps he will kill you through sheer frustration, “ stop looking at you like that.” You whine his name, and as you try to ask him once more to not be so brazen with you, he shoves his nose into your core and breathes in deeply. It’s absolutely filthy, the manner in which he nudges along the damp material hiding you from him while staring directly into your eyes. You shouldn’t be surprised by how far dilated his pupils are, but as you sink your nails into his muscles, you furrow your eyebrows and will yourself to continue staring at him, wanting to ensure that he wants this just as much as you.
“Rex…please, touch me.” You slide one of your hands up to his cheek, cupping his chiseled jaw beneath your palm out of fear of having him move away.
“I am touching you, mesh’la.” Rex raises a curious eyebrow at you, nuzzling into your hand when he feels you settle down and whine in frustration.
“I need more.” You hope he understands what you’re trying to say, but it seems that Rex wants nothing more than to push you over the edge of irritation, huffing out in laughter once as he leans over and kisses your inner thighs.
“Like this?” He asks, licking the spot he’s kissed before moving to the space just below your hip and nipping it lightly. “Or like this?” He inquires with a whisper, taking the edge of your panties in between his teeth and pulling them up until he makes sure you’re still looking at him before letting go and smirking at the snapping sound that forces you to jolt your hips into his face. He must be able to see the annoyance etched on your features because as soon as you try to sit up on your elbows and give him a piece of your mind, he drags both of his hands beneath your thighs and hoists them up until you’re perfectly laid out for him.
“Rex, if you don’t- ahhh fuck,” you throw your head back as soon as you feel the heat of his mouth engulf your wet core. He’s licking you violently through the flimsy fabric of your panties, and when you manage to look down at him through dazed eyes, Rex shoves the material aside and shoves his tongue violently against your clit. You drag your nails across his scalp before you realize how painful it might be, but when you attempt to grab anything else, Rex shakes his head and sucks on your clit before letting go altogether.
“Don’t fucking stop…mark me baby, mark me so the whole GAR knows who fucks you like the filthy jetii’ika I know you are.” Your eyes widen in shock at his words, amazed that the normally respectful and shy Captain is capable of groaning the filthiest words ever as he goes down on you. You return your hands to his blonde hair, a zap of lightning shooting across your muscles when you feel the buzzed cut tickle your heated skin while he continues to fuck you with his tongue.
“Rex…oh fuck, you- you feel so good. Please don’t stop…don’t stop Captain!” You don’t mean for the honorific to fall so easily from your lips, and you look down to see if it made him uncomfortable, only to find him staring hungrily at you as he pulls you harder on his face.
“Is that what you want, cyar’ika? You want me to be your Captain…give you orders and make you cum on my face before I fuck you till you can’t feel your legs?” You know it’s a rhetorical question because he returns his attention to your engorged clit soon after, laying his tongue flat against your bundle nerves as he drools over the fingers resting just below his mouth. You want to watch him as he worships you, commit to memory the desperation filling every muscle of his body as he shows you how much he craves you, but as soon as he eases two of his fingers past your slit and rubs against your walls, you’re shutting your eyes and arching your back at the sudden flash of pleasure that takes over your whole body.
“Cum for me ner jetii’ika,” the tone of his voice, along with the needy order, are all it takes for you to reach your pleasure, and you dig your nails into his scalp in an attempt to bring him closer to you as you roll your hips back and forth against his mouth. You can’t feel anything except his tongue and his fingers, and you manage to look down through heavy-lidded eyes to watch Rex as he makes you cum. Your body shakes violently when you see his Force signature turn into a bright cloud of red, the shade validating to you the Captain’s feelings as he continues to assault your cunt until you grow oversensitive.
You try to push him off of you but he is relentless in his mission to pleasure you, wrapping his arms around your hips and pushing down your body until you understand that he won’t be letting you go anytime soon. You feel empty all of a sudden, but then you notice his wet fingers as they grab you through your chest bindings and you feel another wave of ecstasy slowly creep up on you.
“R-Rex…I-”
“Drench my face, sir.” You’re not sure what it is that coaxes another orgasm out of you, if it is the way he orders you to cum on his mouth again, or the sound of the honorific falling from his lips as he licks and sucks on your clit. You scream his name like a benediction, the sensation he was bringing upon your fatigued body driving you mad with lust. You can faintly hear him moan your name in return, and it’s only when you look down after he’s let up do you realize that you’ve done exactly what he wanted and drenched his face. You should be embarrassed, but as Rex licks at you softly with a lazy smile, you realize that he may have enjoyed this more than you.
“Oh maker, I- I’ve never…” You try to speak but your voice comes out hoarse, making Rex laugh even harder as he sits up and wipes his face with the back of his hand.
“That was the sexiest fucking thing I’ve ever seen sweetheart…I want you to do it again.” He drags his gaze down your body as he brings his fingers to his mouth and sucks on them, the same ones that were showing you stars not a moment ago. He looks positively sinful, and you giggle embarrassingly at him before you try to reach for the tent on his sweatpants.
“No,” he grips your wrist tightly and falls against you, pushing you down into his bed with his whole body before reaching for both of your hands and laying them above your head. You frown at him, unsure why he was denying you the same pleasure he brought upon you.
“Don’t look so upset, mesh’la.” He winks at you as he kisses down your neck and licks the water droplets sticking to your sternum. You sigh heavily and extend your neck out further to give him more access, the action pleasing him more than you thought it would and making him groan deeply into your breasts. “Believe me when I tell you…if you touch me now, this night will end much earlier than I would like it to.” He sucks bruises across your chest, managing to hold both of your wrists with one hand while the other moves to unbind the wrapping around your breasts. It doesn’t take much to reveal you to his eyes, and when you’re finally freed of the offending article of clothing, Rex growls before ascending upon you, not caring for how rough he’s being as he takes a nipple in between his teeth while he rolls his thumb over the other.
“Ah f-fuck…Rex, you- your tongue is- oh kriff, I need you Captain…please. I want to feel you, want you to fuck me, hard.”
“Yeah sweetheart?” Rex soothes the love bites with his tongue, swirling the rough muscle around your hardened peak until your chest rises and falls rapidly. He’s memorizing every inch of your skin, and you notice his smile grow deeper when he sees evidence of his claim beginning to appear all over your body. You always imagined him to be possessive with things he enjoyed, but you never thought once you’d be at the receiving end of such dedication, such admiration.
“Claim me, my dear Captain.” You plead one last time, tilting your head down to try and kiss the top of his head in an attempt to make him lose control. The gesture does the trick, and Rex ascends up your body and takes your lips in between his own, ripping the breath out of your lungs as he sucks and licks into your mouth until you could no longer focus on anything but the sensations he was ringing from your body. You whine and moan for him as he pushes you harder into his sheets, and when you tries to rest his weight on one of his arms, you throw your own around his neck and pull him as flush to you as possible.
“I want to feel you, all of you.” You whisper the request against his cheek, kissing his jaw lightly in anticipation for what comes next. When you sense his hand moving down your body, you nip across his neck and mirror his actions from earlier, distracting him on his journey just as he did with you not a moment ago.
“Fuck sweetheart, you’re going to be the death of me.” Rex groans against your forehead as he struggles to pull the edge of his sweatpants down his hips. It becomes very clear to him soon that you weren’t going to let up on marking his skin, and he sighs in irritation before deciding to pull his cock out from underneath the band of his pants.
“Please Rex,” you urge him with soft pleas and wet kisses, laying your head back to look into his eyes as he pushes aside your panties and rubs your clit with the hard tip of his cock.
“Are you ready for me, cyare?” Rex asks, furrowing his eyebrows in focus so as to not hurt you. You nod frantically at him, widening your legs even further to allow him to settle more comfortably in between your thighs.
“Fuck me, Captain.” You breathe against his quivering lips, sighing in relief when the crown of his dick catches at your wet entrance.
“Yes, sir!” It’s all the warning you get before Rex thrusts his throbbing cock into your cunt, and you watch with fascination as the aura shadowing over the two of you becomes an even deeper shade of red, one that mixed perfectly with his normally blue hue and created a soothing new wave to your eyes.
Neither of you move, looking into the other’s eyes to ensure that this was actually happening.
Rex struggles to breathe, and you massage his neck with your fingers before shifting your hips to get closer to him. The movement sends his cock gliding against your clenching walls, and you both moan the other’s name as you feel pure ecstasy take over your spirits.
“You- you feel…” Rex tries to speak, but he loses focus of the sentence, instead moving all of his attention into committing this moment to memory.
“Perfect.” You finish his thought, leaning up and kissing his lips once before relaxing back into the mattress and silently urging him to move. When he pulls out of you and pushes back in slowly, you realize that you’ll never get enough of this.
Enough of him.
And from the way he was gazing down at you, it seems that the feeling was mutual.
“Rex, just- I want you to cum. I don’t care about me, I only w-want to feel you cum.” You cross your legs behind his back to bring him deeper inside you, the action forcing a cry from his lips that sounds awfully like your name. You giggle beneath him, pride feeling your chest at being the one to bring him to such pleasure.
“I- I’ll be damned if you don’t cum on my cock at least once tonight, mesh’la.” The promise is accompanied with a dangerous glint in his eyes, and you gulp nervously at him, shutting your eyes to relish in the feeling of being so full. Each thrust brings about a fresh wave of arousal to your core, and you dig your nails into his back to show him just how good he’s making you feel. The delicious drag of his cock across your tight walls nearly makes you question whether this was all real, not because you didn’t expect him to feel so perfect inside you, but because he was so much better than your imagination.
His grunts are music to your ears, and you leave a trail of kisses across face the closer he gets to his peak, wanting him to scream your name when he finally cums and claims you. It’s a battle of needs at this point, with your minds telling you to make this last as long as possible but your joined bodies screaming for a sweet release. You can feel every inch of him, every hard vein slide against your fluttering walls the harder he fucks into you.
There is so much on your mind, so much you want to tell him, but you’re not coherent enough to remotely breathe out a string of affirmations to him, so you instead look back into his eyes and hope he can see right through you, recognize every bit of your heart that has always screamed his name since they day you met.
“I- I won’t last much longer, cyar’ika.” He manages to confess as he thrusts become harder, deeper, more intimate. You shake your head and whisper your lack of care for what he just said, wanting him to finally mark you as his own and fill you with his seed. There’s something inherently faithful about wanting him to fuck his cum inside you, a sensation you’re aware would scream your devotion to each other but is against every rule set in place for someone like you…someone like him as well,
But you can’t find it in yourself to care, not when Rex was finally sinking so sweetly into your pussy over and over again until you couldn’t think of anything else but how utterly divine he felt as he joined your bodies with a string of unparalleled pleasure.
“Ner jetii’ika, I- I’m…oh kriff, where do I-”
“Inside me, please!” You cut him off, swallowing his moans as he shakes above you while bringing one of his hands in between your bodies, the sudden touch of his digits against your oversensitive clit making you arch your back into his chest and part your lips for him. He grunts several times while rubbing your hardened bundle of nerves, swirling his tongue around your own when he feels you clench harshly around him. You shudder beneath him, unable to fathom the sensations he was pulling from you so easily, so exquisitely. Just as you break the kiss to breathe, Rex growls your name in between expletives, shoving his cock into you a few times before finally coming undone. Your pleasure lasts for longer than you thought possible, the feeling of his seed painting your walls and oozing out of you somehow making you feel even more attuned to his pleasure, as if his ecstasy was connected to your own and refused to part from it. He bucks his hips into you with shallow thrusts, resting his forehead against your chest as he slowly comes down from the brief high.
You’re both too dazed to move a single muscle, and when you try to unwrap your legs from around him, Rex hisses in surprise at feeling your pussy flutter around him one last time. He finally sits up to look at you, and you watch as the smirk on his face grows with each bit of skin he sees adorned with his touch.
“So…all of that means ‘mesh’la’?” You break the silence and laugh along with him when he finally catches on to what you’re referring to, only to hiss in discomfort when he pulls out of you and leaves you empty. You watch as Rex reluctantly sits up and shoves your thighs apart to look at the mess he’s made of you. You want to shake your head at him, call him disgusting for being so obvious with what he’s done to you, but when you find him biting his lips and staring at you with newfound lust, you realize that teasing him may not be the best idea now.
“Fuck cyare, you look beautiful.” You giggle as you hide behind your arms once more, making Rex tease you about your shy bedside manner when he was literally fucking you into kingdom come not a moment ago. He gets up and walks to the refresher, quickly coming back to you to clean you up so you don’t have to move much. You can’t help but look at him with adoration as he rubs every inch of your skin. He’s careful and patient with you, taking his time to caress your skin before throwing the towel aside and reaching for one of his shirts to hand you.
“Why give me a shirt when you know you’ll take it off of me in another hour?” You ask him teasingly, laughing hysterically when he throws it aside and shoves his sweatpants down his thighs.
Your eyes shift to his cock instantly, and you marvel at how thick and long he is…and the fact that he was already starting to get hard again.
“To even the field,” he winks at you as he slips beneath the covers and pulls you into his side, wrapping his arm around you before dimming down the lights.
You sit in silence for what feels like hours, drawing patterns on his beautiful, bronze chest while he rubs your shoulder and back to soothe your body. It’s only after a while that Rex finally breaks the quiet air of the room and looks down at you, waiting until you meet his eyes before he finally tells you what he’s wanted to say for so long.
“I would rather die than let anything happen to you, ner cyare. You know that right?” He says, matter-of-factly, and you sense a sliver of anxiety fill his otherwise calm aura for a brief moment before it evaporates into thin air.
“I know darling, and you know by now that the feeling is mutual.” It’s not what he wants to hear, that you are sure of, but you can’t find it in yourself to lie to him, wanting him to know that you care for him just as much as he cares for you.
“I guess both of us are going to be stubborn about this.” He shakes his head and leans over to kiss your forehead before resting back against the pillow once more.
“You bet your sweet ass.” You retort immediately, yelping in shock when he pinches your shoulder and sends you closer into his chest.
“You haven’t even seen my ass, sweetheart.” He snorts at your comeback, glancing down at you for a moment before shutting his eyes and enjoying the feeling of having you so willing and relaxed in his arms.
“Oh, believe me Captain, I have seen your ass…and I fucking love it.”

Captain Rex x f!reader Summary: Fives not so accidentally lets the cat out the bag that the captain has a crush on you. Not quite knowing how to deal with this new information, you start avoiding Rex like the plague. He notices and decides to confront you about it. Word count: 2,6k T/W: none A/N: I am, and always will be, a sucker for soft!Rex so I hope you like this self-indulgent fic as much as I liked writing it <3. Also please enjoy the awkward Rex gif. He is too cute and needs to be shared as much as possible. my masterlist
Being assistant medic to the 501st meant you had a lot of dirt on a lot of troopers. The things these men were capable of coming out with when they were under even the lightest of meds never ceased to amaze you. It was like they lost their filter (not that the had much of one to begin with) and would just blurt out whatever came to their mind without a second thought.
You still remember when Tup had come to after being unconscious and admitted in a fit of giggles that you were “The prettiest girl he’d ever met”
Or that one time you’d had to stay overnight with Hardcase in the med bay after giving him some pretty strong pain meds. You’d spent your whole shift listening to him babble on about some girl who was apparently the love of his life and the one thing he couldn't live without. Later on when you were relaying the story to Kix you found out that he wasn’t talking about a girl at all, rather about his favourite DC-17 blaster that he insisted on carrying with him everywhere.
Anyway, the point was that you were used to having all these weird and random things thrown at you by the clones, so much so that you actually found yourself looking forward to hear what they were going to come out with this time. You were prepared for anything these men would throw at you. Or so you thought.
You were currently caring for Fives. He’d got knocked out by a detonator during the last mission, so as soon as you saw him start to open his eyes you rushed over to his side.
“Hey there trooper, how’re you feeling?”
He frowned up at you confused “Am I dead? Is this heaven?”
“Nope sorry Fives. You’re still very much alive” You chuckled “Just got a bit knocked up is all, but I’ll have you right in no time”
He groaned as he started to sit up “Are you sure? Could’ve sworn I was dead. You look like an angel right now”
Gently pressing on his shoulder you tried to get him to lay back down. He huffed but complied, letting you push him back and watching as you dipped a cloth in cold water, gently dabbing it on the gash that went from his temple to his jaw.
You talked to him as you worked, a gentle smile on your face “Trust you to almost die and then the first thing you do when you wake up is flirt with your medic. ”
“Oh no no. I wouldn’t dare flirt with the Captains' favorite medic”
He hissed when you pressed a little too hard on his wound. “Ow, what the hell-?
“What did you just say?”
He scowled up at you “I said ow-”
You shook your head at him “No no, before that. What did you say about Rex?”
“About you being his favourite medic?” he said frowning at you confused when you nodded in response
“Yeah, that”
“I thought it was obvious”
Now it was your turn to frown at him “What’s obvious?”
He lets out an incredulous laugh at your obliviousness, only making you more impatient “Fives, you better tell me what the hell you're talking about?”
“Oh come on, everybody knows the captains got a thing for the pretty little medic”
You freeze, eyes quickly dropping back to the cloth in your hand. “Don’t be ridiculous Fives” you mutter, pointedly going back to cleaning his wound.
He grabs your wrist to stop you, a disbelieving look on his face “Wait- Do you really not know?”
“Don’t mess with me, Fives.” you shake you hand free from his grasp “It’s not funny”
He looks taken aback by the coldness in your voice before a look of realisation crosses over his face. “You like him…” he whispers as if it’s the biggest secret in the galaxy
You blush slightly “No I don’t, I just- well I just-” you clear your throat, avoiding his eyes “I just respect him that's all.”
Fives lets out a chuckle “Bullshit. You like him!"
Shushing him quickly, you glance around at the other troopers in the med bay “Not so loud for kriff sake” you whisper at him harshly. This only makes him smile wider, pointing at your face and exclaiming loudly
“You do! You like Rex!”
You grab his finger angrily, shoving it back down “Ok fine I do. Now can you please shut up before the whole GAR finds out"
He smirks but settles down anyway "I knew it"
You scoffed, picking the cloth back up and wetting it again "Sure you did Fives"
"Did too" he replies smugly. You smile, shaking your head and getting back to work cleaning up his cut. After a few moments silence he breaks it again
"He likes you back y'know"
"Mhm I'm sure he does"
He sits up indignantly "It's true!"
"Fives…" you warn quietly
"I'm serious. He talks about you all the time when he's drunk. And he stares at you so often that it's actually kinda embarrassing"
You pulled back, staring into his eyes and searching for any hint that he's messing with you but were surprised to see him completely serious. A very rare sight for Fives.
Swallowing nervously you take in a shaky breath "Does he really like me?"
"Mhm he sure does. Tries to pretend he doesn't but we all know Rex can't keep a secret to save his life"
That gets a laugh out of you because it's so true. It's actually one of the things you love about Rex. The way he stutters and blushes anytime he tries to tell even the smallest of lies is something you find insanely cute and endearing.
You’d liked him for a long time, and who could blame you? This was Rex we were talking about. Handsome blond Captain Rex.
There was no chance of anything happening between you two. You’d accepted that and were content on just admiring him from a distance, occasionally sharing a few conversations, a couple glances from across the room. Never anything more.
But what Fives had just said lit a small flicker of hope in you. Hope was bad, very bad. Hope meant that you couldn't keep ignoring your little crush and pretending it didn't exist.
Hope meant you actually stood a chance.
You shook your head, clearing your thoughts before you could get too carried away in your fantasy.
"It doesn't really matter, it's not like anything could happen between us anyway"
Fives gaze snapped to you "What are you talking about? You two would be so good together"
"You know that's not what I'm talking about." you rolled your eyes at him
"Then what are you talking about?"
" I'm talking about what would happen if someone found out. Rex would be court-martialed Fives, you know what that means right?"
Fives open his mouth to answer you but you cut him off before he had a chance "This is his whole life Fives, I can't expect him to risk everything for me like that."
There was a moment's silence before Fives softly replied "Maybe he'd think you're worth the risk"
It had been a couple rotations since your interaction with Fives, and you had been trying desperately to avoid both him and the Captain, so far succeeding in both.
But as if he insisted on not leaving you alone, Fives voice kept echoing in your head. Repeating the same sentences over and over. Even though you tried to ignore it, it kept coming back and haunting you.
"Everybody knows the captains got a thing for the pretty little medic"
As if your thoughts had summoned him, the very same handsome captain you'd just been thinking about strolled through the mess hall door. His eyes doing a quick sweep of the room, giving you a double take upon seeing you and decidedly walking over to your table.
You quickly ducked your head down, panic beginning to rise in your chest. What if Fives had spoken to him? What if he'd told him about you silly little crush? What if-
Rex's shadow looming over you made you look up, eyes instantly locking with his and taking your breath away. Stars, those eyes.
"He stares at you so often that it's actually kinda embarrassing”
"Hey" his voice shook you from your thoughts "Haven't seen you around much lately"
"Yeah…" you chuckled nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear " Um Kix has been keeping me pretty busy the last couple days"
"Oh." He slipped into the seat across from you "Well if he's working you extra y'know I can always stop by and have a chat with him."
"No no" you shake your head quickly "It's fine. Hard work’s what I sign up for after all"
Rex looks at you doubtfully, taking in your tired eyes and dark circles "Are you sure? You look pretty tired"
"I'm fine Rex." You smiled reassuringly "Promise"
"Okay, if you say so… Y'know I'm actually kinda relieved. Thought you'd been avoiding me or something" he chuckled, hand rubbing the back of his neck.
You stiffened and quickly looked back down at the table. His smile flattered. "But you haven't… right?"
Getting ready to answer you took in a shaky breath " Um…" You stalled trying desperately to come up with some excuse but his worried gaze was making it hard to think of anything
Suddenly you're comm chimed, breaking the tension and making you both jump. You stood up quickly "Sorry Rex, I've gotta go. Duty calls"
He looked taken aback as you hurried towards the door.
"We'll catch up some other time" you said over your shoulder. You heard his voice calling your name, only prompting you to walk faster.
Making it out into the corridor you heard your name again, this time louder. The med bay was just around the corner, if you could just make it there before he caught you, you would be fine
Breaking into a soft jog, you panicked when you heard his own heavy footsteps matching your pace. They were much too close for your liking.
The door to the med bay was just a handful of strides away now. You could see it.. C'mon almost there, almost there…
You almost screamed when you felt a hand grab you wrist, halting you and pulling you around to face him.
“He talks about you all the time when he's drunk”
Rex must've seen the panicked look on your face because he quickly released your wrist and took a step back.
"Hey, hey what's going on? Did I do something wrong?" He was slightly out of breath from running after you
"No no of course not" you shook your head before adding quietly "I don't think you could ever do anything wrong"
"Then why are you running away from me meshla?"
The pet name made your stomach flip, taking in a sharp breath and hesitating from a beat before replying
"It's nothing Rex, don't worry"
"Of course I'm gonna worry," he scoffed. "Something is obviously bothering you."
When you didn't reply he sighed and gently took one of your hands in his, holding it loosely
"I just wanna know what I've done so I can fix it," he whispered. Looking up and seeing the hurt in his eyes brought tears to your own.
"He likes you back y'know"
"It's just… something Fives said the other day" you said, keeping your gaze down to hide your embarrassingly watery eyes.
But he saw them anyway, jaw clenching and a hand tightening it's hold on your own "What did he say to you?" he growled protectively "Because if he said something out of line-"
"No no it wasn't anything like that" you answered quickly. A look of relief passed over his face
"Good. But it still something that obviously upset you"
You swallowed nervously before responding "It was about you actually"
Rex stiffened "Me?"
“Tries to pretend he doesn't but we all know Rex can't keep a secret to save his life"
"Yeah…"
"Well what- what about me?"
" He was suggesting that maybe- that you might-"
Rex could see you were struggling to say whatever it was you needed to say so he took a step closer, leaning in towards you "Hey it's ok, you can tell me."
"Maybe he'd think you're worth the risk"
Squeezing your eyes shut, you somehow mustered up a tiny ounce of courage, letting it all out in a rush "He said that you had a crush on me"
Keeping your eyes shut, you heard Rex's breath hitch and felt his hands tighten their hold on your own. After a few moments silence you slowly peeked your eyes open, heart beating fast as you took in the man in front of you.
He looked like he'd seen a ghost. "Well… I- I don't really know what to say…"
Nodding you tried to hide your disappointment by looking down at your feet. Of course he didn't like you, how could you ever think he did
You bit your lip as tears began brimming in your eyes How could you be so fucking stupid and start to let yourself believe that Captain Rex could possibly like you, a lowly medic.
"It's ok" you whispered, blurry eyes focusing on the ships shiny floor "Don't worry I knew Fives was just messing with me"
That really broke Rex out of his trance " What do you mean?"
"I mean of course you don't actually like me, why would you?" You replied, laughing sadly.
Rex frowned, genuinely confused "What are you talking about?"
When you didn't answer Rex called your name softly, making you look up at him, his breath hitching when he saw your teary eyes
"Oh meshla come 'ere" he pulled you into his arms, your head nuzzling into his neck and his hands finding their home around your waist.
"Listen to me carefully" he whispered into your hair "don't you ever, ever say that again."
You smiled into his neck but he wasn't finished "Of course I like you meshla, have since the moment i met you. How could I not love you when you're so fucking perfect?"
He pulled back and you immediately looked down shyly, avoiding his gaze. Calling your name, he gently lifted your chin with the crook of his finger, making you look him in the eyes
"I want to be able to call you mine"
You could feel you carefully built walls slowly falling down at his confession. Every second you spent this close to Rex another piece of them crumbling.
"But… what if someone finds out Rex. What then? How much are you willing to risk for this?"
He lent in impossibly closer, foreheads touching and lips brushing against yours as he spoke
"For you? Everything"
The last stone in your wall tumbling down, you closed the gap between you, enclosing your lips with his. He sighed into your mouth kissing you back hard, months of bottled up feelings pouring into this one single kiss.
Your hands travelled over his chest, one sneaking up behind his neck and into his short buzzed hair. He growled appreciatively, his own hands already grabbing your waist and pulling you into him, clutching onto you like a man drowning.
Breathless you both pulled back just far enough to catch your breath. He chuckled, nuzzling his nose into yours as you smiled softly.
"I love you Rex"
Your confession lingered in the limited air between you, his eyes flickering down to your lips before he gave them a gentle peck
"Love you more, meshla"

A knock on your office brought your attention back to the world around you, and you called for whoever it was to come in. Feeling your lips curl into a smile as Captain Rex stepped through the doorway, you put down your datapad. “What can I do for you on this fine-” a quick turn of your head put the chronometer on your wall in plain view “-evening, Captain?”
“You can go to sleep, that’s what you can do,” he said, and you could see a slightly disappointed look on his face. “How long have you been holed up in here?”
You chose not to answer his question right away, pretending to think when in reality you knew by the amount of ration bar packages on your desk and floor that you’d been sitting in the same spot for over 20 hours. “I don’t know, a while?”
“And that is exactly why you need to get some sleep,” Rex said. “This cannot be good for you.”
“If it isn’t good for me, I guarantee it’s not good for you either then.” Yeah, you had a bad habit of working through meals and not getting enough sleep, but you also knew that he shared the exact same bad habit.
“This isn’t about me,” Rex said. “Don’t try to change the subject.”
You playfully rolled your eyes, this wasn’t an unusual conversation to have. “If I go to bed, you need to go too, because I know you haven’t slept either.”
Rex sighed, but he didn’t try to refute your point. “Fine,” he said. “I’ll walk you to your quarters, and then I’ll go to sleep.”
“Do you promise?” You didn’t know if you believed him, but maybe you could actually get him to take a break if you pushed a little bit.
“Yes, I promise.”
“Good,” you said, straightening up the piles of flimsi on your desk before getting up and throwing the trash you had accumulated in the small can on the other side of the room. You would never admit it out loud, but you secretly loved it when Rex came to visit, because his presence automatically made you feel better.
As you walked the quiet halls of the base side by side, you couldn’t help but sneak little glances at him. The 501st was rarely on Kamino for long, although they did stop by at a higher frequency than some other battalions. You had quickly formed a friendship with many of the men in blue, but the captain was the one you felt the most pull towards. In another world, where there wasn’t a war going on, maybe the two of you could have been more than casual friends, but right now you both had more pressing duties than romance.
As you finally approached your quarters, it seemed like Rex wasn’t going to let you off the hook that easily. “I really don’t like that you sleep so little,” he said.
“I could say the same thing about you,” you said. “I think we both have a problem that’s not being helped by the jobs we’re working.”
The ghost of a smile crossed his face, and his shoulders relaxed slightly. “I think you’re right,” was his response. “And we both need to try to get a little more rest.”
There was a pause, a moment where neither of you spoke, and instead you just held his gaze, not sure what to say. The silence wasn’t awkward, and you felt an invisible force pulling you closer to him.
Right as you opened your mouth to ask him if he wanted to stay and relax for a few minutes in your room, a loud crash echoed through the hallway, which set off the automatic alarm. The two of you shared a look of confusion as the deafening noise blared for a few seconds and then stopped, and whatever moment had been starting to form was already broken between you.
You would never admit it out loud, but that night as you fell asleep, you couldn’t help but think about Rex’s kind eyes and warm smile.
***
It wasn’t for quite a few rotations that you found yourself once again in the company of the 501st, but this time you were on their flagship. Apparently there had been some major mixups with their filing, and the GAR wanted to permanently assign someone to each battalion so that this type of trouble was avoided in the future. You had been overjoyed when you received your assignment.
It was certainly an adjustment, living permanently on the ship and familiarizing yourself with the 501st’s systems and files, but you enjoyed it. And the company was much better than any of the Kaminoans that you had met or worked with before, so you really didn’t miss the rainy conditions back on Tipoca City.
There was one other big plus to this particular assignment: and that was the presence of a certain clone captain, even if he had a slightly annoying habit of forcing you to go to sleep every now and again. But as you spent more time with him on the ship, you couldn’t help the way your feelings grew even more. Every time someone knocked on your door you hoped it would be him, and you treasured every single conversation that you had.
You were currently sitting in the mess hall, picking at some flavorless blocks of ration material while you chatted with Fives, Jesse, and Kix about your day. The 501st had just come off a long and tiring campaign, so the fact that the ship was headed back to Coruscant and not another battle was a major morale booster. Even though you didn’t see any active combat, you still felt pain and worry every single time the men went off to fight, because there was the chance that some of them wouldn’t return.
“You should come to 79’s with us!” Jesse said brightly, pulling you out of your thoughts back to the world in front of you.
“Yeah!” Fives chimed in, smiling brightly. “You said you’ve never been, and it’s the best!”
“I don’t know if she would agree with your statement,” Kix said, not looking up from the datapad he was typing on. “But I do agree that you should go. If nothing else, watching these two on leave is nothing less than entertaining. Last time they got picked up by the Coruscant Guard for speeder racing after we left the bar.”
You couldn’t hold in your laughter at that. “Really?”
“Hey, we weren’t charged!” Fives said, rolling his eyes in the direction of his brother. “Thorn just took us in as a joke!”
“He still called Rex to pick you up, didn’t he?”
Silence settled over the table, which meant Kix was telling the truth (and the others didn’t want to admit it). “Well, at least you’re here to tell the tale, right?” you asked, smiling at the two ARC troopers.
Fives just smiled as Jesse opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by someone else sitting down at the table. “Hey Rex,” you said, unable to completely hide the way your face brightened when you saw him. “How are you doing?”
“Not too bad,” he said warmly, returning the smile you sent him. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for this leave though.”
“You’re coming to 79’s with us, right?” Fives asked. “We’re gonna make sure it’s a good time!”
Something about Fives’ tone must have set off alarm bells in Rex’s mind, because he had a quizzical look on his face. “You go to 79’s every single time we’re on leave, what’s so special about this one?”
“It’s because I’ve never been,” you said, and Rex nodded as you spoke. “Technically I haven’t even agreed to go yet, but I don’t know if I have a choice.”
“You don’t!” Jesse joked. “Come on, it’ll be fun! Captain, you both should come out with us!”
You and Rex shared a look while the others waited for your answer, and eventually you broke down first. “If Rex agrees to it, I’ll go to 79’s with you guys.”
Now the hopeful looks were being directed at the captain, and you knew he couldn’t really say no to them. “Fine,” he said. “I’ll go with you all.”
Happy exclamations were heard from all across the table, and Rex looked like he was about to say something to you when his comm device started to beep. Everyone quieted down as he stepped away and answered it. “Hello?”
You couldn’t hear exactly what was being said, but you recognized the confident tone of General Skywalker on the other end, and soon Rex was nodding goodbye and heading off to whatever he was just called to do. You watched him leave with a small smile on your face, not realizing that the others now might be able to pick up on your certain feelings for their commanding officer.
And thankfully, other than a few raised eyebrows from Fives and Jesse (which you just playfully rolled your eyes at), no one said anything to your face. You just hoped they weren’t secretly scheming to get you and Rex together at the bar, because you didn’t want to potentially jeopardize the friendship you had with him if he didn’t feel the same way about you.
***
79’s was packed and loud, but it possessed a certain charm that made you understand exactly why Fives and Jesse liked it so much. There was a feeling of laughter and light-heartedness in the air (as well as the smell of sweaty troopers, but you tried not to think about that) as you walked over to where the 501st was already seated.
“We got you a drink,” Kix said as you sat down, pushing a glass in your direction.
You smiled at the medic as you picked up the glass and took a sip. “This is good!” you said brightly.
“Yeah, the drinks are good tonight,” Jesse said, already halfway done with his. “They must have just gotten a new shipment of liquor.”
When Rex sat down at the table next to you, there was no way you could ignore the way your heart fluttered. He looked good, having removed the top half of his armor, and you couldn’t help the way you stared at little bit at his muscular frame in his GAR-issued blacks. “Glad you could make it, Captain!” Fives said, passing him a glass of beer. “This is way better than doing paperwork all night, right?”
You and Rex exchanged glances as he answered. “It will be if you don’t get yourself arrested like last time.”
Fives scoffed. “We weren’t charged!”
“And yet I still had to pick you up from the holding cell.”
Fives opened his mouth (clearly to retaliate), but no sound came out, and you tried to hide your laughter by taking another sip of your drink.
“Don’t worry, we don’t ever plan on getting picked up by the Guard again,” Jesse said, and Rex just smiled like he wasn’t sure he believed him. You did believed Jesse when he said he didn’t plan on getting arrested again, but you also didn’t think that would be the last time Rex gets a call to come get his troopers from a holding cell.
The night went on, and the group ended up dispersing a little bit. It was now just you and Rex at the table, and you were glad to get to talk to him without the rest of the 501st around. You loved them all, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like the situation you were in right now.
“Are you glad you were assigned to the 501st?” Rex asked, taking another sip of his third beer of the night. “Or do you miss working on Kamino?”
You paused for a moment before responding. “Other than the friends I made among the other battalions, I don’t really miss Kamino,” you said. “And the 501st certainly makes my life unpredictable.”
Rex laughed. “I feel like I should apologize for that.”
“You absolutely do not,” you said. “It just makes my life more interesting to know that a food fight could break out in the mess hall at any moment.”
“Still, I don’t want you to feel like you’re stuck with us.”
You put down the glass you were holding and looked him right in the eyes. “Rex, I could never feel like that. I love working among the 501st, and I love working with you.”
“Really? That’s the opposite feedback we usually get.”
You laughed. “Rex, I mean it. Unless you’re really trying to get rid of me, then I take back everything nice I’ve ever said about you.”
“I’m definitely not trying to get rid of you,” he said. “I’m just trying to figure out how the 501st got lucky enough to work with someone like you.”
“You guys are pretty great you know.”
“Yeah, but we’re nothing compared to you.”
The two of you were now much closer than you had been at the start of the night, and you were certainly not complaining about it. Your eyes flicked down to his lips for a fleeting moment, and you could have sworn you saw him do the same thing. Your name came out of his mouth, and you nodded in response, breath caught in your throat as your mind came up with all kinds of fantasies about how you wanted these next few moments to go.
“Yes?” you breathed.
“You really think the 501st is great?”
You just smiled. “Why don’t you give me a kiss and I’ll tell you.”
He didn’t need to be told twice, and when his lips landed on yours, you thought this had to be some kind of perfect dream. At that moment, nothing else in the entire galaxy mattered enough for you to care about it. It didn’t matter that you were in the middle of a crowded bar, it didn’t matter that if the rest of the battalion saw you’d be teased for weeks, and it certainly didn’t matter that neither you nor Rex were technically allowed to engage in romantic relationships due to your work with the GAR.
When you pulled apart for air, the two of you stared at each other. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a while,” Rex said. “But every time I made up my mind to say something, I got interrupted.”
“I’ve wanted to do that for a while too,” you said, leaning in to place another quick kiss on his lips. “And I’m still not even sure if I’m dreaming or not right now.”
“Why don’t you kiss me again, just to check?”
A soft snort left your mouth as you playfully rolled your eyes, but you would never turn down an excuse to kiss him.
And little did you know, Kix was sitting up at the bar with a smile on his face and a small pile of credits next to him on the countertop (his winnings from Fives and Jesse). He knew exactly how you and Rex felt about each other, and he also knew how to give you both the slight push you so desperately needed.

“So, just to make sure I understand correctly,” Rex slowly voices his concern as he walks off the Twilight with Skywalker, “Senator Amidala requested extra security for the Senate gathering that Naboo is hosting, and the GAR only sent the two of us”. After working with the general for most of his military career, Rex is wary when it comes to any mission with the jedi. His concern only grows when he knows the general is hiding something from him. Rex scans the royal hanger with his eyes, and his suspicions heighten when he realizes their ship is the only one not from this planet.
“No,” Anakin drags out. “But we are here by special request. That part isn’t a lie”.
Rex rolls his eyes and sighs, “Then why are we here, sir?”
The two men reach the main entrance where the guard lets them into the palace with no questions asked. Rex’s eyebrow raises at the lack of protocol. His heart quickens as they walk through the bright palace halls. Normally, Rex can push aside the insecurity that comes with feeling like an outsider, but the grandeur of the royal halls and the luxurious outfits that its inhabitants wear cause him to sink into himself slightly. Finding comfort in the plastoid armor that his brothers wear alongside him even systems away.
Anakin looks at the captain out of the corner of his eyes for a moment, taking note of his stiff posture. He focuses on his gaze in front of them, but he then bears off to a side corridor. He leads Rex to a hidden staircase and explains, “The 501st has been granted an extended leave after our last success”.
Rex’s eyebrows furrow, “Then why are we on Naboo?” He’s careful to keep his voice calm so as to not betray the growing hope that’s overcoming him. The last rays of early evening bleed into a vibrant sunset over the lake from the open archways that line the outer wall.
“I may, or may not, have lied about the Senator requesting you to be here,” Skywalker sheepishly admits. “That doesn’t mean someone else didn’t request your presence, though”.
Reaching the top of the stairwell, Skywalker steps to the side and opens the door for Rex. His signature smirk appears on his face, and Rex thinks this is finally the moment he’ll strangle the general for everything he's been put through. Fully ready to voice his intent, Rex’s body freezes at the sight of you sitting at a table for two on the palace’s terrace.
Dressed in a summer evening outfit, you look at your partner in amusement as he can’t take his eyes off you. His expression of disbelief makes you lightly chuckle. Warmth blankets around you as the sun kisses your skin causing butterflies to tickle your stomach.
“I’ll leave you two to it. We’ll have a few weeks here, Rex, so try to actually relax on your time off,” Skywalker quietly dismisses himself. Before he completely moves away, he nods at you in gratitude.
You smile lightly at the general, and you focus your gaze on Rex. “Care to join me? It’d be a shame to let this go to waste,” you say and motion to the table full of fruit, cheese, and bread. A jug of water sits on the side of the table with a bottle of wine in a chiller stand.
Rex can’t breathe as he takes in this moment. Memorizing it to hold close for the rest of his life, his heart swells to the point where he swears he's going to break. “How,” Rex tries to find his voice as he walks towards you, “How did you plan this?”
You reach your hands out to him and grasp his gloved hands. Rubbing your thumbs over his knuckles, you explain, “I had some help. Padmé learned about it through her husband, and she sent me a message. Offered to let us have a vacation away from prying eyes”. You look up at him from your seat and flutter your eyelashes. The soft smile on your face growing as Rex looks down at you in adoration. A flush warms your cheeks when he takes one hand to tilt your chin up towards him. His gentle touch ignites sparks across your skin.
“Have I told you how much I love you?” Rex quietly mumbles before placing a kiss to your lips. His hand then cups your jaw to help guide you into a better position to deepen the kiss. His lips move against yours and pride warms his chest when you meet him with equal tenderness. Everything feels as if it comes to a standstill as the two of you reunite and fall into your partner’s embrace.
You rest your free hand on his hip and run your thumb over the new scratches on the worn plastoid. Silently thanking the stars for safely returning Rex to you one more time. Rex pulls away from your lips, and before you can protest, he places a quick peck to your pout. Your heart races from the small act, and you meet his affectionate gaze with a similar look on your face. “I think you’ve voiced the idea one or two times,” you muse, “You did, did however, say we would need all the time in the galaxy to truly express how much you adore me”.
You lightly laugh and let him step away to find his seat across from you, and his laughter soon joins yours. You pour water into both your glasses while you softly inquire. “How would you like to go about your vacation?” When Rex raises an eyebrow as he slips off his gloves, your cheeks flame as your mind begins to wander from the terrace oasis to the luxurious bedroom the two of you will find comfort in soon enough. “We have a gift sitting in front of us. If you want, we could completely ignore the war for a short time. Get lost in our imaginations of what it would be like to spend our lives peacefully hidden away from the galaxy,” you elaborate.
Rex looks at you with a thoughtful expression. His eyes flickering from your ethereal appearance to the beautiful scenery that leads his mind to all the possible afternoon rendez-vous the two of you could find yourselves in before noticing the small quirk of your lips. His chest aches at the care you’ve put into this experience for him, and he leans forward to grasp one of your hands across the table. “That’s a very dangerous idea, cyar’ika,” Rex muses.
“Don’t you flirt with death everyday, love?” you tease and squeeze his hand. “How could a blossoming field of flowers beside a tranquil lake pose more of a threat than a battlefield?”
Rex chuckles and looks up at you from his eyelashes. His amber eyes hold a roguish glint that only grows in intensity at the small shiver that falls over your body. When he responds, he voice drops into a gravelly, hushed tone, “I meant dangerous for you, cy’are. Three weeks tucked away from any distractions where I can finally take my time to love and adore you. Worship you every morning, afternoon, and evening for everyday we live in paradise. You’re offering me too much when it should be me who offers you everything”.
Your breath hitches and the blush rising to your cheeks rivals the sunset’s rich red and orange hues that paint the sky. Heart pounding against its cage, your voice comes out airy: “Whatever you desire, I shall give to you during our time together. As long as you promise that you’ll return to me each time we must part ways”.
Rex feels like he can’t breathe. A wash of guilty pleasure consumes him as you bite down on a strawberry. The glistening juice trails across your lip before your tongue swipes across to collect it. Your lighthearted laugh seemingly brings a brighter glow that Rex didn’t think was possible to the golden beams of sunlight that stream through the hanging flowers. His other hand subtly moves to his utility belt as you turn your head to watch the sun set against the great lake. Rex is thankful that you let him get lost in his thoughts this time, because he wants to do right by you for this change in your relationship.
“I will do everything in my power to come home to you, so we can continue to create memories like these together,” Rex promises. His voice softens into a reverent awe, and as he speaks he unclasps one of his pouches.
“I know,” you softly acknowledge, “I will always count down the days until we reunite, but during those days I will always worry for your well being and safety”. Rex’s hand squeezes yours, and your expression drops. Not daring to look at your lover, you keep your attention to the families and friends who gather by the lake’s shore to begin their summer celebration. Your chest constricts as hugs are shared and shouts of excitement crescendo against the evening’s warm breeze.
Rex ducks his head and sighs. His fingers hesitate when they graze the small box he’s kept safe by his side during his last few deployments. When he steals a glance at you, Rex’s heart all but breaks at the adoration he holds for you. Sitting before him, Rex looks upon his lover who holds him with such care and tender love. Who understands him better than he does. Who goes through every obstacle to stand by his side and support him in a galaxy that causes a fear to fester in the back of his mind. A lover who walks him off the edge when his emotions get the best of him. There’s no one more deserving of his lifetime devotion after everything his cy’are has done for him. Certainly, no one who he could imagine living the rest of his life with.
With a reignited spark of resolve, Rex scoops the small box into his hand and clasps the pouch. “I can’t promise that a worst case scenario will never happen,” Rex quietly begins. When you turn to face him with a worried expression that nearly makes him choke, he takes a deep breath. “However, if there is a way for me to find my way back to you, I will always search for it. There is nothing in this galaxy that could keep me from returning to you. The only exception being death itself”.
Your breathing begins to grow heavy as you listen to Rex’s declaration. A night you hoped would be full of laughter and relaxation now renders you speechless while feeling the weight of his words sink into you. Your heart races as you watch Rex rise to his feet and return to your side once more. “Rex,” you softly question. Only for a quiet gasp to slip past your lips when he drops to one knee now holding your hand with such tenderness as he trails his thumbs across your knuckles.
Rex’s heart pounds against his chest as blood rushes to his ears. An overwhelming mixture of emotions makes him feel dizzy, but he will not let this opportunity pass. “I have never met a person who willingly gives a piece of their heart to whoever may need it. Someone who cares so deeply for their loved ones or people they have only just met, because you believe that everyone deserves to feel cared about. Regardless of if you’ve spent weeks with them or just a few minutes. You offer your heart to anyone and trust them to take care of it just as you would theirs, because you hold hope that the galaxy will rebuild itself into a place where everyone feels at home once more”.
“You’re going to make me cry,” you let out a watery laugh and wipe away the threatening tears, “You better not be doing what I think you’re trying to do. This vacation is supposed to be about you”.
Rex lets out a short laugh of disbelief as he shakes his head. He looks up at you with a beaming smile, “But that’s just it, cy’are. Without you, I am a shell of a man. You have brought so much light and love into my life that I never dared to dream possible. My heart only beats for you, and I want to spend the remaining days of my life by your side”. Rex slides his thumb under the ring box’s lid as his thunderous heartbeat echoes in his ears. “If you will allow me the honor, I would like to care for you with just as much devotion as you have shown me in the time we have already shared together”.
Your eyes soften as Rex opens the ring box to reveal a simple silver band with a small sapphire in the middle. The last rays of light catch on the gemstone to cause it to sparkle in the early evening. “You would be a fool to ever think I wouldn’t say yes,” you weakly laugh and run your thumb under your eyes.
“Then say it,” Rex pleads. His amber eyes shimmer with excitement in the golden sunlight as he waits to hear the words he’s only dreamed of hearing you say.  “Please”.
“Yes,” you softly assure him, “I would love to spend the rest of my life by your side”. There was never a doubt in your mind that this would be the man you married when you first met, but as Rex slips the band onto your ring finger, you have never known a love so strong. When you try to convey your feelings, the words can’t come. Only a small whimper falls from your lips and a short laugh. So instead you cup Rex’s face, and you share a passionate kiss. Your eyes flutter closed as you commit this moment to memory.
A chuckle of acknowledgement falls from Rex before he nips at your bottom lip and deepens the kiss. Tilting his head, Rex holds your wrists and thumbs your racing pulse points. Your hum causes his skin to tingle. Finally, Rex feels as if he’s found his place in the galaxy. When your kiss breaks, the two of you still lean into each other's embrace and rest your foreheads together. For a few minutes, the pair of you don’t move away. Only shifting slightly to ghost your lips over over the other in featherlight kisses. Nudging your chin with his nose to make you open your eyes, Rex gently places a lingering kiss to the corner of your mouth before pulling away to stand up.
Instead of sitting across from you like you thought he was doing, your eyebrows raise when he takes his chair and moves it next to yours. “Couldn’t even go a minute without being apart,” you find your voice to tease.
Rex shoots you a look of amusement while reaching over to pick up the bottle of wine from the chiller. “Because you’re any better,” Rex counters and nods to your hand resting on his belt. Now adorn by a silver band that only makes his smile grow at the sight. Twisting the cork free, Rex pours both of you glasses of bubbly and places the bottle back in the chiller. As he sits by your side, he offers you a glass and rests a hand on your thigh. He tilts his glass towards you with his usual charming expression. “May we share as many days together as riduurs as there are stars in the galaxy,” he proposes.
Lightly clinking your glass to his, you beam at Rex. “And may we always find our ways home to one another after any time apart”.

TEMPTATION OF THE UNATTAINABLE | CAPTAIN REX
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GIF by kamino-coruscant
Synopsis: You found yourself in the training room on one of your rare days off, not with your lightsaber or the Force but with a blaster. The unfamiliar black, sleek metal was heavy in your hands as if death itself weighed on the trigger. You didn't practice with such a weapon; too barbaric for your tastes, but after a comment Fives made, you wanted to prove him wrong. Blame it on your pride, but you were determined to land a hit on the droids, only, Rex finds you before you can do so.
Warnings: female reader, innuendos, flirting, teasing, fluff. W/C: 1838
Notes: i've had this in my drafts for two months now, i finally finished it and edited it (repost)

"You know, I'm surprised the great general can't shoot a blaster." You lower the training blaster, looking over your shoulder at Rex entering the training room, his bucket tucked snugly under his arm, still in full armor.
"Can it, Rex," you snap, and he only chuckles in reply. You turn away from him, adjusting your stance as you raise the blaster in steady hands. Anticipating recoil this time, you shoot. It nearly misses the center of the training droid's head, and you sigh.
"You look like you're struggling over there," he comments half-heartedly, leaning against the durasteel wall. You spin on your heels, narrowing your eyes at the infamous captain.
"Rex," you snarl in a warning he does not head but instead strokes your fury with bated breath.
"What? Need some help?" he taunts, and you have half a mind to give him a little push with the Force if it means silencing his snarky attitude that he seems to have only with you. Admittedly, you admire him to a point beyond the relationship of captain and general, but that attitude...you could do without it.
"You know the answer to that." There's that edge in your words, the threat behind them that Rex can't help but stroke. He doesn't know why your bite to every teasing remark riles him as much as it does, but it's addictive the way you push back, makes him feel alive, and he can't get enough of it.
"I want to hear you say it."
"Sadistic piece of shit," you growl, glaring at him.
"Now, that's no way to talk to your captain, especially since you are in such dire need of assistance." Dealing with Anakin's ego is better than this, you think sourly.
"You're an asshole."
"So I've been told."
You huff, rolling your eyes as you stare at his satisfied features. You muster up all the scraps of pride you have left, salvaging what you can before you give in. "Please help me, captain."
His eyes sparkle with pride at his accomplishment. "See, that wasn't so hard now, was it?"
"I hate you," you mutter defeatedly as he approaches you. You feel him behind you so close you can feel his force signature radiating off him like an aura of warmth as he takes his place at your back.
"No, you don't."
Kriff, has his voice always sounded so attractive? It was so smooth and oh-so delightful, you're sure you could never get enough of it.
"May I, general?"
"Just call me by my name, captain, since we're past professionalism at this point," you reply sarcastically, and Rex fights off the temptation to grin, opting for a more teasing tone.
"You as well."
He steps forward, so his armored chest is pressed flush to your back, and the chill from the plastoid seeps into your Jedi robes. You can feel every divot and curve grating against your attire and pushing into your spine, sending an aching pressure through your body.
His gloved hand slides over your waist, and you freeze at the contact, your body stiffening in his firm grasp.
"This okay?" he asks, his tone mixed with mischief? Lust? You couldn't tell. His mouth is close enough to your ear that you can feel his warm breath fanning over the shell of it.
Your mouth dries at his words, and you lick your lips, trying to swallow the lump in your throat. "Y-yeah."
Rex takes your breathless voice as a sign to continue, silently relishing his ability to make you stutter because Maker knows how long he's waited for an opportunity or excuse like this to touch you. To render that pretty mouth of yours speechless, even if it's to help with your poor aim.
His foot slides your feet to the side so they are parallel with your shoulders, and your mind wanders to where else he might spread your legs– Focus, you internally reprimand yourself for letting your thoughts descend into something so vulgar and indecent. You're a Jedi, for fucks sake, and even though you've long since abandoned the rule on attachment, it was entirely unprofessional for you to think of your captain this way.
"Knees bent mesh'la," Rex instructs, his breath ghosting over the column of your neck before he pauses, his body growing taut. There are a couple of beats of silence where Rex can feel his heart hammering out of his chest. You don't react, at least not visibly, to the nickname, and he internally grumbles at his slip-up. He doesn't focus on it too much, considering you don't seem to understand the meaning of the word, but he chastises himself for his lack of restraint for letting something as crucial as that slip from his typically tight lips.
You chose not to say anything about his sudden discomfort despite your curiosity but instead concentrate on his nickname. Mesh'la. It ran off his tongue like honey, sweet with a hint of something more. It obviously was Mando'a; as far as you knew, every clone spoke a bit of it. However, you never imagined it would be spoken to you, especially by the man you so readily esteem, so what did it mean?
"Oh, right, sorry," you trip over your words as you bend your knees to his will. You feel Rex's arm leave your waist as he shadows you, enveloping his body impossibly closer to yours. His gloved hand runs over your skin, working out the rifle's position to the target droids. He's focused. You can tell that much by how his hands remain steady and focused like he is in his nature.
It's the familiarity of the weapon, the ease of it, that helps distract Rex from how close he is to you. Every movement he's made in the last five minutes has been driven by the singular purpose of being closer to you, and there was no way in karking hell that Rex would fumble and let this prime opportunity slip away from him. No way in hell.
"Right there, grip it a little tighter, atta girl." You swallow the growing lump in your throat as a shiver runs down the length of your spine at the utter husk in his voice. It's a low, seductive rumble, so chilling yet inviting, as his lips hover a hair's breadth away from your neck, where your pulse is frantically thundering under your skin. You try, you really do, to push out the thoughts of his soft lips caressing your skin in a gentle kiss, peppering your flesh with his devotion. Instead, you feel your face seethe with heat that engulfs your cheeks and rises all the way to the tips of your ears. Shyness is now muddled with arousal, rendering you unable to form a single strand of thoughts to combat your mounting embarrassment. You can almost feel the stupid smug smirk on his lips as his hands tighten their hold on your waist.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" Bastard. Stupid bastard knows what he's doing to you, yet his advances won't push past the edge of flirtation. No matter how much his mocking remarks and smug rejoinders irk you, you want him– need him- to take a leap off the edge. It's something you yearn for down to your very being for him to cross that path of no return. Relinquishing your friendship would either be the end of it or the start of something new. The risk was high, it always was, but one of you had to make a choice, walk away or pursue the tension rising like a raging storm through your love-struck heart.
You are desperate from the hope he provides you that all of his teasing amounts to something, that he is not playing with your emotions in a game of his ego. It's not in Rex's nature to be so misleading, which inclines you to believe he does share that same sentiment as you, but what do you know when it comes to romance? Your entire life has been spent in a temple with people who would rather die than form an attachment forbidden by the code. You know nothing about your feelings besides how to hide them.
"Shut it, Rex," you grumble, and he chuckles, the sound gravelly and enticing to your lust-plagued mind. His hand scours over your hips, his deft fingers running over the area in a teasing motion. Yet, for all the concentration you render as a Jedi, it proves fruitless. Rex notices your slight tremble and eases you with a gentle whisper, "don't be so nervous."
How are you not supposed to be nervous when he's flirting with repreive?
"Now, see your target?" You force yourself to nod, not trusting your lips to form intelligible words. He moves slightly to your side, removing his right hand from yours. It appears that he forgoes his teasing for instruction, now focused on what he was initially set out to do, but the way he grasps your hips, pulling them back ever so slightly into his cod-piece, you are inclined to believe otherwise.
"Finger on the trigger," he orders, and your body obeys before you have time to think, waiting for your captain's following directive. "There 'ya go. Whenever you're ready."
There's a second of hesitation while you gather your thoughts before you pull the trigger. Rex is luckily behind you and holds you steady at the minuscule jerk the gun gives off. The blast bolt pierces the target, black scarring around the marred hole made on the bullseye. You look back at Rex to find him already staring at you with a brazen simper, his arms crossed over his chest.
"You did good, sweetheart, for a Jedi." You huff and shake your head, taking a last look at your shot before back at him. His arrogance begins to fade into something genuine, and it's impossible to tear your eyes away from his; to let go of the shift in the Force between you two.
Neither of you cared to address the atmosphere you had created in that short instance, and for right now, you don't wish to sour the mood with the taste of reality. Yet, nothing felt as perfect as staring into those bright amber eyes, reflecting a future you could only crave.

"If you want it, you're gonna have to come and get it from me." for rex? please 💙💙💙
Ok, let’s gooo! I was panicking trying to figure out if Rex or Reader should say the line, so I just went with what came as I was writing... I always see Rex as awkward at first, but we all know he's got some passion underneath that can be coaxed out with the right situation. ;) Hope it's a fun read! <3
Rex x GN!Reader Word Count: 2.2k Content Warnings: PG-13 drinking, threats, kissing...?
Also, this picture was in my head the whole time. ;)
Tumblr media
It had been weeks. The 501st had been on Coruscant while their Venator was undergoing major repairs after an obnoxious ambush by the Separatists. There were only so many drills and armor inspections that could be done, so the clones found themselves at 79s more frequently than they were used to. It was a good opportunity to blow off some steam, to enjoy a change of pace from the constant horrors of war, and they were in generally good spirits. You’d been frequenting the place as well, finding it a welcome distraction from your recent break-up and mundane, dead-end job.
The boys in blue were always a good time, and you enjoyed the occasional chat with a few of them, but there was always one who tended to keep to himself, chatting with his fellow captains and other squad members in various corners of the bar. You’d made eye contact a few times, finding yourself oddly drawn to him, but he’d been quick to avert his gaze with a sheepish look. It seemed a stark contrast to what you’d heard about him as a fearless yet humble soldier, a courageous leader, and a proficient warrior. Needless to say, you were tired of the blatant approaches from the bar patrons with less finesse, and the idea of not being fawned over was an appealing one. Perhaps you could even have a legitimate conversation.
You’d made some efforts to place yourself near him, but the way he’d shift uncomfortably on his feet made you wonder if your presence was unwelcome. Finally, after unabashedly using Fives as a cover for a few nights in a row, he called you out.
“Just go talk to him,” he said suddenly, elbowing you in the side a little harder than he intended.
“What!” you gasped, partly in pain and partly surprised at his directness.
“You’re not as subtle as you think you are. I don’t know how you’re so impervious to my charm, but it’s obvious you’ve been stealing glances at him while you’re talking to me. So just go talk to him.” His response was laced with a grin and a glint in his eyes, and a blush blossomed across your cheeks.
“I don’t know what--”
“Alright, come on,” Fives interrupted, taking you by the elbow and heading toward Rex. Your heart was pounding in your chest, and it took all your concentration to avoid tripping over your own feet as you were steered toward the captain, who was talking with another clone and immediately stiffened as he saw you approach.
“Hey Captain,” Fives said casually, pulling up in front of them, “We were just talking about that backward strategy you pulled on Saleucami, and this pretty little thing wanted to hear more about your battle tactics.”
You groaned inwardly, resisting the urge to slap your palm into your forehead, but the awkward noise that came from Rex immediately diffused the tension with hilarity.
“Ehhrmmeheh…” he said, eyes darting from Fives to you. His companion chuckled, slapping him on the back and saying his goodbyes as he left with Fives, leaving the two of you staring at each other.
“So uh… Battle tactics… That’s… hard…” you offered, clasping your hands together in front of you and trying not to fidget.
“It’s… Well, we’re trained… And the generals, and admirals, and… you know. It’s not just me,” Rex offered, running a hand over his closely-shaved blonde hair. His helmet was on the counter nearby, and you noticed the interesting markings across the top, making a mental note to ask about them later. You took a deep breath, blowing it out slowly to steady your nerves, and leaned against the counter, feeling yourself relax a little.
“Okay, so what would you do in this scenario…” You quizzed, and the two of you launched into the nerdiest discussion of war strategy you could have imagined. The minutes ticked by, and you started to feel much more comfortable. Rex was clearly engaged, enjoying the intellectual challenge and particularly appreciating the familiarity of the content. Drinks were refilled, you began coming up with increasingly ridiculous situations, both of you loosening up and laughing a bit more, and finally the conversation turned toward other things. He shared about the early days of the war, you talked about your aspirations for a career that seemed to be just out of your reach, and the discussion was occasionally punctuated by the arrival of someone else who wanted to have a quick talk with Rex. He would engage for a bit, sending you the occasional side glance and grin that made your heart skip a beat, then would turn back to you.
Things were going fantastically, but you were suddenly interrupted by a very unwelcome presence -- a regrettable one-night-stand from a while ago who had never quite gotten the hint that you didn’t want to talk to him again. He sidled up next to you, a little too close for comfort, sloshing his drink a bit as he leaned into your side with a foul-breathed greeting.
“Well helloooooo! Fancy meeting you here!” he slurred, eyes roving over you with thinly veiled interest. You crinkled your nose, leaning away from him a bit, and Rex noticed your discomfort.
“Hi there,” he said, a sudden air of authority in his voice that gave you goosebumps. “We were just heading out, but nice to see you, and hope you have a good night!” He rose to his feet from the stool he’d been resting on, offering his arm to you as he used the other one to tuck his helmet against his hip. You stood as well, taking his arm and muttering a farewell to the inebriated mistake of your past, who started rambling something incoherent after you as the two of you strolled out the front door.
The cool night air hit your face, refreshing and invigorating after the cloying warmth of 79s as you walked down the street and around the corner. You realized with a start that Rex was looking at you, a little half-smile on his face that made you suddenly want to kiss him. What were you supposed to do now? It had been a diversion to leave the bar, but you now found yourself with no plan of where to go. You opened your mouth for some feeble attempt at a joke, but were suddenly interrupted by a loud voice behind you.
“Hey! I wazzn done with you! I’sstill talkin n you left!”
You whirled around, matched in speed by Rex who had turned to face the threatening sound immediately. The obnoxious little hemorrhoid was staggering after you, still holding the glass from the bar, waving it angrily at the two of you. His face was bright red, mouth spluttering with words, and you wondered how you ever made such a bad decision like that. Your self-flagellation was halted by the gentle push of Rex’s helmet into your arms, as he stepped slightly in front of you to face the approaching complainer.
“Easy there, brother. Why don’t you take your glass back and have a good night?” Rex said, striking a balance of firmness and affability. You marveled at his ability to be direct without the bravado that so many insecure men would immediately put on when challenged in any way.
“YOU take thglass back!” the parasite spluttered, making a sudden lunge at the two of you. In one smooth motion, Rex moved the two of you sideways, out of the way of the ill-aimed charge, and you let out a little yelp of surprise as you backed up against the wall beside you, clutching the helmet in your arms. In a flash, Rex was in front of you, holding a hand up toward the angry little fuss, who was revving up for another go. He came at the Captain and was easily dodged, running past in a clumsy bundle of flailing limbs, crashing into some passersby who squawked in surprise and disapproval.
“Time to go home,” Rex commanded, still squaring up in case the fool decided to have another go. And indeed he did, lowering his head and taking a swing at the clone, who effortlessly dodged it and quickly swept his legs out from under him. He fell backward with a disproportionately satisfying thwack, head knocking into the mirror of a speeder on the way down, sending the glass mug flying from his hand, and passed out cold. You cringed, pressing the back of your head into the wall in embarrassment, adrenaline coursing through your veins. Rex turned back to you, expression unreadable, and you began to offer your apologies.
“I’m so sorry,” you started, but he waved them away, and you were overcome with the sudden realization of just how damn sexy he was. The combination of hours of conversation, his intelligence and humility, and the fearless protectiveness were intoxicating, and the rush of all that had just happened hit you like the brick wall you were backed up against.
“Eh, I guess it’s the struggle of having such devoted followers,” Rex said dismissively, a playful smile on his face.
“More like clingy regrets from a moment of bad judgment,” you admitted, turning his helmet in your hands.
“I’ll take that if you’d like,” he said, extending a hand warmly and nodding toward the helmet.
Whether it was the thrill of the series of events, the culmination of the emotional roller coaster you’d been on in life, or just the sheer magnetism of the blonde beauty in front of you, a sudden courage found its way into your heart. You hoped it would be received well, but it just felt so… right. You took a step forward, shifting the helmet around behind your back, holding it in both arms between your spine and the wall, and lifted your chin toward Rex with a cheeky grin.
“If you want it, you’re gonna have to come and get it from me.”
You didn’t know where it came from, but the spark between the two of you was undeniable, and you held your breath as Rex raised an eyebrow in surprise. Your heart skipped a beat when he pursed his lips, assessing you with a gaze that made your knees weak. He had seemed so awkward at the bar, so unsure of himself, but now he was none of those things. His presence exuded confidence, and he moved slowly toward you. The smoldering intensity in his eyes melted you to the core, and you inhaled sharply as he brought his face within inches of yours. You could feel his breath on your cheek as he leaned toward your ear, sending shivers down your spine.
“Well look at you all of a sudden,” he purred, reaching an arm around your side. You temporarily forgot about the helmet as he moved his lips from your ear to your mouth, not touching, just barely hovering in the most tantalizing way. His eyelids were low as he took in a slow breath, raising his eyes to yours and brushing the tip of your nose with his own on the way. Your lips parted slightly, holding your breath, every nerve in your body on fire as you found yourself yearning to close the distance between the two of you but also finding yourself frozen in place, unable to move.
The tension was suddenly broken as you felt the helmet slip out from behind you, and you fell back into the wall with a surprised gasp. Rex stood up straight, holding the helmet up triumphantly with an eyebrow waggle. The flood of emotions was indescribable -- shock, humor, indignation, disappointment, delight…
“That’s not fair!” you breathed, feeling slightly embarrassed at being toyed with, and you took a hopeless swipe at the helmet, which he easily pulled out of reach with a smile.
“You’re right…” he answered, surprising you as he pressed forward against you, snugly trapping you between his plastoid armor and the wall. You brought a hand to his chest plate, the other resting on his hip, looking up at him in thoroughly flustered admiration. You didn’t even know what to do with yourself at this point, but he lifted his free hand to your chin, tipping it upward ever so gently, and hesitated to scan your eyes for consent. You closed them, leaning forward slightly, and he dropped his helmet to the ground, snaking his other arm around your waist, pressing the most deliciously tender kiss to your mouth. Electricity coursed from your head to your toes, and you melted against him, drowning in his scent and taste and touch. A quiet, contented “hmm” rumbled in his chest, and you lifted a hand to the back of his neck, tilting your head and deepening the kiss blissfully.
It felt like hours and seconds simultaneously when you finally parted, sucking in the cool air in disbelief and amazement. He leaned his forehead gently against yours, leaving his eyes closed for a moment, a small smile on his lips, and you reveled in the contrast of his sharp features and the softness of his touch. What a change from the flustered, awkward start of your interaction… A million thoughts and questions flew through your mind, but you let them all drift away to instead savor the moment.
“Thank you?” you whispered, earning a tiny chuckle from him.
“My pleasure,” Rex answered, “Should we go discuss some more battle strategy?”
You laughed out loud now, giving his cheek a fond caress, "Fantastic idea."
LOOK!! Fanart!! 😭😍🥹👏🏻👏🏻 SO HAWTT!!

Can I? Please? Gift Rex with a handmade blanket? I was teaching kids some basic quilting and made a doll quilt and it's big and puffy and stuffed with cotton... and made for a full sized barbie so definitely big enough to just... wrap him in... Its made out of scraps so a whole bunch of colors in no pattern at all and cut to size. I just think he would like blankie. I hated seeing him in the jar...

Yeah rex deserves better 😭
Also he has the tendancy to sleep standing up.

Push & Pull
Pairing: Captain Rex x Jedi! Reader
Word Count: 1.5k
Genre: Angst (i’m sorry)
Warnings: there’s a bit of a makeout scene in the beginning, the rest I can’t give away without spoiling the story so be warned
A/N: It really was supposed to be fluffy at first but... it was too tempting. I based the Title off a KARD song. Also if the consensus demands it I’ll write the part two I’ve been planning for this. Feedback is really appreciated for this! I worked hard on it and I’m actually quite proud of it!
Summary: What happens when the reality of your secret relationship comes crashing in, and the fear peaks out from amongst the rubble.
AKA You push him away and he tries to pull you back in.
Tumblr media
You could taste the desire littered across his tongue as you both consumed each other. His hands grabbed at the nape of your neck desperate to pull you closer to him than what was physically possible. You were clinging on to each breath as your mouths moved as one, refusing to let the other go. He was your safety net, the one thing you felt too selfish to ever let go of, even if it meant taking him down with you. Not that the galaxy would ever let you two find peace. It was tumultuous and violent, and there was no escape, not for any single inhabitant. But for the two of you, there was no hope. Your little secret was doomed to explode from the start.
He was a soldier and you a Jedi. There were countless things wrong with whatever this was, yet you could never seem to get enough, until now. If attachment and love were forbidden, then how was it so easy to fall into this in the first place? Especially when the man in front of you looked to be carved by the stars himself. Was this supposed to be what temptation was like? Painful and gut-wrenching but deliciously so. And how were you supposed to let him go?
“Mesh’la,” he breathes out. Effortlessly, like everything else he does. “I think I lost you back there. I only noticed because it’s kind of hard to make out with a durasteel wall.” You chuckled, looking into the warm irises of the man you’ve grown to love. It broke you, seeing that look of pure adoration in his eyes because you knew that in a matter of time, all you would see is misery within them. You tried to keep every bit of fear you had inside, instead choosing to relish in the unbridled happiness Rex brought you, but there is only so much a person can take before the dam breaks, and it finally did. A lone tear sinks down your cheek accompanied by a sniffle, the only signs you’re willing to let peak through, but it’s plenty enough to worry your beloved Captain. His calloused hands moved to hold your face and wipe the evidence of your turmoil.
“Cyare, talk to me. What’s going on inside that pretty little head of yours?” He moved to press a chaste kiss to your temple, and you couldn’t hold it in anymore. A cascade of sobs echoed across your quarters accompanied by soft hushes and words of encouragement, as he held you tight to his chest, rubbing circles into your hip bone.
“I’m sorry,” was all you could muster out in between your sobs, trying desperately to regulate your breathing.
“For what?” He asked, his gaze continuing to bore holes in yours, the concern ebbing off him in waves.
“For loving you,” you choke out. You were sure he wasn’t able to make any of it out between heaving, sobs, and snot-filled sniffles. But judging by the silence and lack of movement in the room, he was a bit shocked by your confession.
The silence that passed was agony as you watched those gears turn in his head as he was trying to make sense of it all. You watched as the facade of this hardened man started to crack and crumble above you. He was slowly starting to understand the connotation of your words and where this conversation was headed.
“Why?” He asked finally letting out that agonizing breath you had assumed he had been holding in.
“I just-” You took a breath, it coming out far shakier than you would’ve liked, “I can’t do this to you. Not anymore. I have been incredibly selfish with your feelings, knowing of the consequences that are destined for us. You deserve so much more than that.”
He was still frozen in his place, so you just decided to continue. “I’m sorry Rex. There’s not much hope for either of us with the lives we have led. I love you.” You stared at the stars countless nights, wondering, dreaming of this moment. The moment you finally put it all on the line and told him you loved him. But the last option to ever grace your thoughts was that you told him while you were doing this. You expected the moment to be filled with kisses and warm hugs and the only feeling that could be felt was love. Not this. “But that’s not enough. That will never be enough when this, us, is bound to break and shatter in all the worst ways possible.”
“And how is that guaranteed in your eyes? With the way you are talking, it sounds like we have no choice but to surrender to it. To run away and cower in fear. But how do we know for sure things are going to blow up in our faces? Shouldn’t we be allowed to be happy?” You were angry. Not at him, but at all this destruction, death, and violence that promises no reprieve, and yet he still chooses to hold on to the hope that one day it will. That one day this war will be over. When you know that there’s no way the galaxy could ever find peace.
“Because Rex” You screamed, your heart pouring itself out through your voice. “You are a Captain in the Grand Army of the Republic and I am a Knight of the Jedi Order. Someone catches one whiff of us and you’re court-martialed and I’m removed from the order. I could possibly live with that, but the punishment for you is not something I could live with. Rex, they would kill you.”
“You don’t know that,” he sighed.
“But I do, which is why I know we can’t do this anymore. Not with a cost this high,” you let out one last shaky sigh before you moved to the door. Finalizing your decision in ending your happiness and going back to the shell you once were, by command of the Jedi.
“You can’t leave,” he gritted out through barred teeth, “You made me a promise when you first came to our command. That we are a team.” He shot up from his position on shaky legs, all of his emotions evident in his stance, “And that we get through things together. You can’t make this decision on your own. You promised.” It was hard to catch that last bit, it was barely a whisper.
“This is the only decision to make, can’t you see Rex? We have no other choice.” You saw it. For the first time ever, your hardened but warm and loving Captain finally broke. Relinquishing the control he’s tried desperately to cling to since his inception, a tear falls down his cheeks. Something you’ve never seen before and it breaks your heart even more.
“What I see is you being selfish!” Those words hit you like a gut punch because he was right. You were being selfish. But it was all you could do to keep the one thing that makes you feel human, safe. You were taught nearly your whole life to avoid emotions and attachments, and because of it you nearly functioned like a droid. Your only focus was to do what they told you to. Then Rex came along and gave you a reason to fight, to feel, to exist. And the idea of losing him in this endless battle of torment was something you couldn’t stomach.
“I’m not a droid, Cyare. I make my own decisions, you can’t make them for me.” He was yelling now, even though his volume wasn’t ridiculously loud, avoiding unnecessary attention. It was still his choice of words and how he said them that made your knees buckle. There was an overwhelming feeling to fall to the ground and melt but you needed to be strong and get out of this, for both your sakes.
“I have never once compared you to that of a droid. You are fully capable, but I can’t play games with your life, Rex. You are the most important thing in my life.” You let out a sob, one of many since this debacle began, but one that fully conveyed just what you were feeling at that moment.
“Please, just stay. We can talk this through, what you’re feeling. We don’t have to leave it like this.” He put your face in his hands again, kissing you while he still shook in fear. One that was a silent beg, to not let go.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered, tears falling down your cheeks, “I don’t know how.” You opened the door knowing that once you take this step there was no coming back, and took one last look at the man who meant everything to you.
“Please,” he cried. And with that, you left. Abandoning the only bit of freedom you ever had.

softest sweater
pairing: captain rex x gn!reader
warnings: one curse word i think, reader and rex shower together but there’s nothing sexual, ahsoka is sad, there’s literally no plot this is just self-indulgent fluff
word count: 0.86k
a/n: i just want it to stop being 104° every day and have a clone trooper to call my own. modern au, i guess, but nothing is specified. i wrote this in, like, an hour, so pls forgive any mistakes
Tumblr media
The sleeves of your sweater were pushed up over your elbows as you washed the growing pile of dishes in the sink, watching the rain fall from your kitchen window. Since the window faced your backyard, you didn’t see whoever it was that knocked on your front door. One quick glance through the peephole, though, had you throwing it open.
Ahsoka stood on your front step, completely soaked through. You pulled her into your home, and with the sounds of the storm shut out with the closed door, you could properly hear her choked back sobs.
“‘Soka?”
“Barriss, she—she broke up with me.”
“Oh, baby.” Water be damned, you pulled her into a hug, softly stroking her cold montrals. “Everything’s gonna be okay.”
She pulled back and wiped at her eyes, still sniffling. “I didn’t know where else to go.”
“I’m glad you came here. Do you want to talk about it?” She shook her head, water falling off of her. “Raid the closet for something dry, I’ll get you some food.”
She pulled you into another hug and mumbled, “Thank you,” into your chest.
You turned back into the kitchen and set the oven to preheat, then sent a quick message.
She’s with me.
After you put the frozen pizza into the oven and started on some cookie dough, your front door opened again. Heavy footsteps turned into soft ones as boots were taken off by the door to dry, then Rex stepped into your kitchen and wrapped his arms around you, tucking his chin on your shoulder.
You leaned back into him as he pressed a gentle kiss to your neck, giggling when sweater fluff got into his mouth and made him sputter. “Hey.”
“Hey. Cookies?”
“And pizza.“ You looked over your shoulder and kissed his jaw before saying quietly, “Barriss broke up with her. She walked here in the rain.”
“Ah, shit. Poor kid.”
“I’d wait for her to come downstairs before you get changed.”
“Probably a good call.” He moved around you and pulled out the brown sugar and flour and passed both of them to you. “And how was your day?”
“Camrac still hasn’t been fired, so, you know, it wasn’t great.” You grin at his muffled chuckle. “It was fine, nothing unexpected. I’m sure I’ll think of something worthwhile to tell you later.”
He smiled. “Looking forward to it.” He took the mixing bowl from your hands and covered the top with a towel, then put it in the fridge to chill. Then he pulled on the oven mitts and carefully removed the pizza from the oven.
Ahsoka appeared at the entrance to the kitchen, wearing one of your softest sweaters and some of Rex’s shorts, rubbing at her eye.
“Hey, kid.”
“Hi Rex.” She walked toward him and tucked herself into his side, his arm tightly wrapped around her shoulders. “Is that pizza?”
“And there’s cookie dough in the fridge.” You sliced the pizza and grabbed some plates. “Movie?”
She nodded. “Movie.”
The three of you arranged yourselves on the couch and got lost in the film. When the pizza and cookie dough were gone, Ahsoka’s head ended up in Rex’s lap, and his head ended up on your shoulder.
His eyes fluttered open as the credits started to roll. “I missed it?”
You snickered and kissed his cheek. “That’s why we picked one we’d all seen before.” You glanced down at the Togruta and smiled softly. “Will you carry her upstairs?”
“Yeah, I’ve got her, you go turn down the bed.”
You crouch down to her level and place a warm hand on her shoulder. “‘Soka?”
“Hmm?”
“We’re gonna take you upstairs.” She started to sit up and open her eyes, but you increased the pressure on her shoulder just barely. “Rex will carry you, baby, just lift your head.”
She did as you instructed and Rex lifted her easily, then they followed you up the stairs. You pulled the covers back on the spare bed, then tucked her in when Rex set her down, placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. Then you plugged in a soft night light before closing the door.
Rex already had the shower running when you entered the en suite bathroom of your room, and you groaned as the eucalyptus scented steam filled the space. “You spoil me.”
“I treat you exactly the way you deserve.”
You both stripped down and stepped into the shower, grateful once again you installed the overhead shower head when you first moved in.
Rex’s hair was easy to wash, and you had him purring for you as you scratched product into his scalp.
He happily returned the favor.
The rain finally stopped as the two of you dried off, changed into pajamas, and slipped into bed. Rex, the living furnace, opened his arms and let you curl into him, your head on his chest. He hummed in contentment as he stroked his fingers up and down your back. Your eyes slowly started to close, and you hummed back.
“I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Your family, all under one roof, safe and dry and warm.
There’s nothing else you could’ve asked for.

“For a captain, you sure are clumsy,” you comment, looking over the damaged chest plate.
Rex rubbed the back of his head and chuckled nervously. “Yeah, well…It comes with the occupation, I suppose.”
You look up at him from where you sat, the clone captain standing before you dressed only in a body glove. He crossed his bulky arms over his chest—a broad one, at that—and you smiled at him. A tense, awkward silence hung over both of you, filling your small workroom with fog. You looked into his deep brown eyes, noticing how his broad nose crinkled when he sniffed; how he couldn’t maintain eye contact with you for longer than a few seconds.
You cleared your throat, fingers tapping the broken armor. “Well, um, this should be done by the end of the day tomorrow. Doesn’t look too banged up.”
“Good to know,” Rex said. He walked to the door with a stiff back, giving you a curt nod before leaving.
Tumblr media
The second time he came back, it was a cracked pauldron—the blue one signifying his rank. She raised her eyebrow when he held it out to her, taking it gently.
“You were just here not even 6 rotations ago,” she remarks. “Kriff, captain, what does Commander Skywalker have you doing?”
Rex shook his head. “I’ve been here training, actually.”
She scoffed and looked up and down between him and the armor. “This happened during training?”
He shifted and scratched his thick bicep. Rex could barely look into her eyes; not because he couldn’t make eye contact, but because her beauty threw him off. When he’d first gone to her a standard month ago, he was instantly smitten. Whenever he saw her walking around base, he felt his heart beat faster. She made him more nervous than his Commander’s plans ever did.
Rex couldn’t stop thinking about her, and it led to him doing this just to see her. He made sure to land on his shoulder during a training exercise, knowing he’d need to get it fixed. Knowing it would lead to seeing her.
The way she looked at him, smiled, bantered—it drove him crazy. He wished he could just hold her hand, brush his fingers against hers. Rex wished he could be bold enough to make the first move.
“Landed on my shoulder wrong,” he replied.
She hummed and turned it over in her hands, deft fingers running over the crack, making him wish it was his chest she was stroking instead. When she looked up at him again, his breath caught in his throat. Maybe he was dreaming, but it seemed like there was something in her eyes, seeing him in a similar way.
“I’ll have it done tomorrow. You can pick it up then.”
Her voice was music to his ears. Maybe he’d return in a few rotations with something else.
Tumblr media
“Captain Rex, here again? What a shock,” you deadpanned, leaning back in your chair.
He gave you a soft smile, light copper cheeks crinkling. “Hope that’s not a problem.”
“Not at all,” you said with a smile. “But I’m thinking I might have to start charging you.”
Rex chuckled, a light rumble. He was handsome, you’d decided. Charming, in his own special way. It was funny. You saw him training, giving orders; he was confident, sure of himself, filling a room with his presence. When he stood in front of you, he shrunk from shyness. If you didn’t know any better, you’d say he had a crush.
You bit your lip as you inspected the damaged thigh plate, hiding a smirk. But of course, the ever-observant Rex noticed.
“Something the matter?”
You swallowed, deciding to be bold. “You know, I think I have an idea about how you could pay me back for all of these little—“ you gestured to the armor— “accidents.”
He raised an eyebrow and cleared his throat. “Is that so?”
You nodded, meeting his eyes. “I’ve heard of this cantina nearby. It’s quiet but I prefer them that way.”
“What’re you suggesting?” he asked, his voice a little hoarse.
“Take me there.”
“As…As a date?”
A smile spread across your lips and you nodded. “Exactly.”
Rex’s face brightened and he grinned. “I’m free tomorrow. I got the morning off the day after.”
“I’ll be free after I finish fixing this,” you giggled, holding up the armor.
“I’ll meet you here then, love.”
The pet name sent a shiver up your spine. “Sounds like a date.”
Rex gave you a wide grin, and you could tell something had been lifted off his shoulders. You were incredibly flattered to be the object of his affection, and even more excited to finally get to know him beyond his awkward way of flirting. Maybe you’d be able to steal a quick kiss—you definitely weren’t thinking about how it would feel last night. Hopefully, you could be bold again. Hopefully, he’d keep coming by to drop off another piece of armor, giving you another piece of him—the real Rex—each time.

Rex didn’t think she’d be up.
The humming of landing cargo ships and flights of troops had died down on the docks and the thrumming melodic march of clones had stopped hours ago. The 501st had gone back so late from their disastrous mission, General Skywalker didn’t even bother debriefing before sending them all off. Jesse or one of his other rambunctious brothers would typically propose going down to 79’s for a round of drinks to relieve the stress that pent up in their shoulders, but not that time; the life had been sucked out of all of them. Especially Rex.
But despite the failure and upset, the early release by Skywalker gave Rex an excuse to immediately go to her. He could strip himself down to just his boxers and let the warmth expanse of his chest warm her soft, shivering skin in her freezing apartment. She insisted she kept it that cold to save on the cost of running warm air, but he thought it barbaric. How could she put herself through such hell just to cheapen her expenses? Sure, the barracks he and his brothers slept in normally ran colder, but it was simply a way of military. His body ran warm by biology. But hers didn't. And he couldn't bear to imagine her shivering for warmth under the covers when he wasn't there to keep her body at stable temperatures.
At that time at night, she’d typically be asleep. Her apartment complex certainly was; the only sound that echoed through the halls was the droning of some late night holo broadcast. It got louder and louder as he took large, but careful steps to her apartment. He took out his copy of her keys, slotted it in, but as he gently pushed on the door it fell ajar. He hissed.
That can’t be right. She knew better than to leave her door unlocked overnight, when she was at her most vulnerable and easy to attack state. If he was there, if only he was there to lock the door, he’d hold her close, his body between her and the door and whisper softly in her ear how important it is to stay safe, how he’d never forgive himself if something were to happen to her.
He rushed in, despite being so tired he could’ve passed out, worried that she'd see her on the floor, bloodied and injured, or even worse, not there; all her belongings strewn around the apartment. But instead his eyes locked on to hers. She was leaning against the couch cushions but sat on the floor, her messy hair and tired, droopy face only illuminated by the blue light of the holo broadcast she had on in front of her. Her eyes snapped to his and they both immediately softened. Rex could feel all his limbs untense at seeing her.
She was the type of beautiful that he couldn’t even put into words most days; despite constantly expressing his feelings of love and adoration on her appearance and body, it never seemed to truly do her justice in his opinion. She was delicate but firm at the same time. Sometimes it felt like he could lightly caress her and she could shatter into a thousand pieces. Those days were the same nights he’d take her apart with his fingers and tongue and cock, whispering to her words he wished were more eloquent and poetic. She was so soft and nimble, careful and loving to him he couldn’t believe she was even real. But there were also nights she was firm in his arms, gripping onto him like Rex was the last thing holding her between a line of life and death. She’d whisper similar things; how he broke her apart and split her open, place himself in her body, in her cunt and in her heart. But she seemed so tough despite. Rex could never get enough of it.
But now, as she looked up at him with tired eyes and a worried crease in her eyebrows, he couldn’t quite place how her skin might feel if he were to touch her. Soft or hard, sweet or addicting. She whined, feeble and relieved and she stood up. Her body ached; he could feel it from a yard away, but she still kept herself up and walked toward him. He met her in the middle, his still armor clad hands holding her cheeks. His thumb brushed over her bottom lip, which was bitten to shreds. She always had that as a bad habit; and he wasn't there to correct her before it was too late.
“Rex…” She muttered. Her hands came up as well, to grip at the chin of his bucket. Dank farrik, he had been so focused on just getting to her and being in her arms, he hadn’t taken off his helmet. “You’re back.”
“And you’re up,” Rex responded to her, a little too quick and automatic. He pulled away for just a moment to get a good grip on her wrist and led her to the front entrance. When they arrived at the door, still ajar from when he had stormed in, she only tilted her head. He groaned softly, frustrated. “You left the door open.”
She blinked and reached for the door, taking the knob in her hand. Not looking up at him, she whispered softly an apology.
“I must’ve forgot.”
She went to close and lock it, but Rex stood there with her.
“Cyare…” He said. He reached over and held her at her waist. The bare skin of her midriff practically lit on fire at the contact with his armor. “You can’t just forget to lock the door.”
She turned around in his arms, with a drowsy look of obliviousness on her face. He’d want to groan and be annoyed at her lack of competence, but he wasn’t thinking so straight either; it was too late at night for either of them to be up and having a serious conversation of safety.
“But nothing happened,” She said, going to bite at her lip again. He quickly pulled her lip away from her teeth and shook his head.
“Kriff, you-” He stopped himself from talking so gruffly. Rex sighed and pulled himself in closer to her, still fully covered head to toe in armor, and softly held her cheek. She melted into his embrace. “I shouldn’t have to explain this, baby.”
The pet name came out like sweet sugar on his tongue. He’d never really called her that out of the bedroom, and only then would it be grunted through so raggedly you could barely make it out. This time, it was full and clear and thoughtful.
Her face fell completely into his hand, closing her eyes in a way that looked like she was fighting her body to not keep them open. She whined again.
“I know,” She whispered, her forehead still worried with wrinkles. Her mouth met the palm of his hand piece, and she kissed it. Rex could’ve sworn he felt it through the layers of metal. “I know, I’m sorry.”
He sighed defeated, moving the hand to hold at her chin, so it didn’t roll back to a somewhat lifeless position it wanted to go.
“Don’t apologize,” He said firmly, but not mean. She tried to give him a smile, but she could barely manage to lift the corner of her lips up. A sickly grin came out. But in her freezing, stark apartment, it warmed Rex’s heart to a temperature not even the hottest days on Tatooine could compete with.
Her hand found his forearm and she led him slowly to her room, opening the door for him and not bothering to turn on the light. In the dark, still only illuminated by the light coming from the holo broadcast still playing in the other room, Rex stripped himself of his heavy armor, grunting and groaning when the pieces finally came out and left him only in scuffed up blacks. She helped him, tutting and clicking her tongue disapprovingly at every deep cut, scab, and rip in his clothes.
“Rex,” She said, one of her thumbs landing on a scab over his wrist and trailing the pad of her finger over it. “How did this happen?”
He grunted as a response, but it wasn’t good enough for her.
“It was a bad mission.”
It still didn’t seem to satisfy her, but no other words came out of him as he got out of his armor. He left the helmet for last, and as she pressed against him, her torso and pelvis against his, both of her hands on either side of the bucket, he hesitated and pulled back. She blinked.
“What’s wrong?”
He stayed silent.
“Rex, baby…”
She pulled the same game he did before; using sweet little words that made him melt in her arms. She didn’t use nicknames for him often. It made the times she did an extra amount special. He finally softened in her grasp enough that she was able to lift the helmet off of his head.
The gasp she let out wasn’t as loud in his plugged ears as it actually was. But her hands on his bare skin brought him out of the trance.
He looked at her, naked eyes glued to each other, and he blinked away the sudden tears that came to his face. He couldn’t bear to imagine what might happen if he burst into tears in front of her. He was her protector, her guardian; he couldn’t fall apart in her presence.
But he was so close to.
She went to press his forehead against his, but couldn’t, for the blood that dripped down the side of his face and the gash that covered a good stretch of his hairline had stained his face maroon. A dollop of fresh blood dripped down to his chin. More cuts and scratches adorned his handsome, smoldered face. He’d always been a soldier coming home from war to her, but in their state, late at night and unable to compose themselves, it felt so raw. Unadulterated. Something she had seen before, yes, but never so… undisguised. It practically broke her heart. And he could see it in her eyes.
“Who did this to you?” She asked in a hushed whisper. Her hands came to his shoulders, one of the only parts of his gashed body that wasn’t cut open and massaged them tenderly. It only brought out a low groan from the back of his throat, but no words.
She sniffled. A part of her wanted to stomp her feet and scream, frustrated she couldn’t do for him what he needed. Not if he didn’t talk. He just looked at her with the same amber eyes that were cracked like glass and tears glossed over. She pressed her thumbs hard into his pressure points.
“Why didn’t you go to the medbay?”
Her words and her touch finally coaxed out a loud gulp and his raspy voice,
“I’m fine, cyare,” He said, his hands coming to her waist. He rocked her slowly toward the foot end of her bed. “Let’s just sleep. We’ll go to bed and deal with it when the sun is up.”
Her mouth fell open.
“No,” She refused in a whisper yell, holding onto him tighter. “Baby, you’re hurt.”
His words were even more coarse, if it were possible.
“I told you that I’m fine.” His head dipped down, his chin meeting the top of his chest to hide the anguish over his face. “This happens every time. It’s just in the job.”
Despite his rank in his battalion, they both knew the job meant the task he was bred for; die for the republic. They had talked about it before, usually as the talk that came after a long night at the 79’s. Whenever she joined him and the rest of his brothers, Rex never drank. He became her protector the whole night and once they came home. She’d try to unbuckle his belt, but he'd stop her, and instead the two would talk. And in her intoxicated state, it was when he’d finally say things he had been so scared about saying before. The insecurity he always held deep down with her about his life, more specifically his life with her. How he’d die long before she would and must leave her sooner than later to ease the pain. His feeling of undeserving of his life, undeserving of her love when he was only bred and trained to fight and die for a cause he didn’t even truly believe in, deep, deep, down in his heart. Rex only told her these things when she was drunk; he did it on purpose. Not maliciously, no, but because he didn’t want to deal with what she might say back if she was sober. He guessed that made him just as cowardly as the new cadets he always criticized.
“No, it isn’t,” Her words pierced him and his eardrums finally popped as if it was timed. He pulled his head up and looked in her eyes. “I know it isn’t. You can’t go to bed like this. I can't let you bleed out. Say you’re expendable, but this is not how you’ll die.”
Before he knew it, a thin tear fell down his face and he sighed out a breath deep from his longs. His eyes fluttered close and his eyebrows pushed together. He wanted to knead them with his own hands, but he felt so tired, so done in her arms.
Suddenly, he felt a feather light kiss over his eyelids. First his left, then his right, and he opened his eyes again. She was now teary-eyed too.
“C’mon,” She said; her hands went down to hold his, despite them being bloodied. “Let me take care of you.”
He licked his lips, the metallic stinging of his blood making him wince.
“Okay,” He said, absentmindedly. She grinned softly, the same look as before and he let her take him to the bathroom off the side of her room. “Okay, cyare.”
She flipped the lights on; the blinding radiance of the overhead bathroom light made Rex shut his eyes and cover them with his hand. She laughed softly and led him, his eyes still closed, to sit on the toilet seat.
When his eyes got adjusted, he finally opened them, but not to see her. He almost panicked for a moment. In his state of tiredness, he was almost unable to comprehend anything else happening besides her holding him. But his eyes fell to the drawers beneath the sink and saw her fumbling through them, throwing first aid supplies onto the counter without much thought in it. She hummed anxiously, and put her hands on her hips. She looked over at him apologetically.
“Will you give me a moment?”
He breathed nervously.
Her hand cupped his cheek, but he pulled back. She looked at her own palm; it was now covered in some of the fresh blood that dripped down him. Rex groaned.
“I’m making a mess.”
“No, you’re not,” She assured, turning around and cleaning the blood onto a white towel, leaving it stained in a passionate red. He sighed. “Give me a second, I need to get a cloth for this.” She told him.
He told her okay, take your time, and let her scurry off to grab a cloth to clean him with from somewhere else. But as he sat there, an omniscient hum in his ear that deafened the sound of her footsteps in the house, Rex became wracked with guilt. It had all been his fault; for making her stay up late. He saw the way she hid the bags under her eyes with makeup in the day, but he saw it almost every night they spent together when the layers came off; he kept her up at night. He left her anxiously rocking her legs and cracking her knuckles, clicking her tongue like she was the clock ticking the time; waiting and counting patiently until he came home. He pained her in a way he couldn’t even imagine, despite the torment his own mind dragged him through. His love tortured her enough, it seemed.
When she returned, a pile of neatly folded washing cloth in her arms and antibacterial liquid, he lowered his chin and asked in a deeply apologetic mutter,
“Why were you up?”
“Huh?” She hummed, drowsily oblivious. He wanted to groan, but he knew he mustn’t snap; unless he wanted to hurt the both of them more.
Her fingers came to his chin and she lifted his head up to meet her as she stood. Her other hand, holding the cloth dipped in the liquid, came to dab at the wounds, in that same happy medium he saw in her from before; not soft, but not very rough either. He winced, but not much; the pain he felt in his heart at that moment couldn’t be matched.
“Why were you awake?” He asked again. His lips barely moved, but the words came out articulate. She blinked and shook her head, bit her lip quickly before quickly stopping herself from instinct.
“I couldn’t sleep,” She said. She then shrugged, so carelessly and lying that he could barely handle it.
“Why couldn’t you sleep?” He said. Rex wasn’t going to let her off the hook.
She didn’t respond for a long moment.
“Cyare.”
“I was waiting for you,” She finally answered truthfully, an ached soreness coming out with her words. He felt relieved to finally hear the words from her, but it didn’t relieve the ache in his own body.
“You don’t have to do that,” He insisted, his eyes falling closed just a little as she began to wash off the dried and bleeding blood. Her other hand came up with a napkin, pressing firm into the gash to try and stop the bleeding.
“I want to,” She said. He shook his head, but she held the sides of his head back into place. Their eyes met and he wanted to melt, or fall into her arms. His instinct told him to just kiss it out, fuck it out, anything but have to tell her that his dedication to the Republic was hurting her.
“Who told you that?” He asked, persistent. Despite his eyes being half lidded as he looked up at her, he could see every little detail of her face clearly.
She shrugged, softer this time and less careless. It hurt less. It felt more like an answer than a dismiss. Despite him being gone a lot, and long time gaps between when they get to see each other more often than not, he practically memorized every little detail about her.
“No one did,” She said. Rex thought she might go on, but instead she went back to diligently clean up his face, her eyes so focused the whites no longer look reddened from lack of sleep. It was almost like she restored her energy from it; like her energy was being restored from being around him more often than not.
Neither spoke while she finished cleaning his face. She closed the gash that had gone across his hairline and gotten rid of the blood that dripped down his face. All the scratches were wiped away to healing patches and the rip on his bottom lip was gone. Or at least it felt so. Her hands, the perfect final remedy to his body, trailed over his face, admiring her work. She dipped down and her lips captured his.
Rex wasn’t expecting it. He was certain there wouldn't be any other state he could’ve been to be prepared for it. But the kiss wasn’t a bad surprise either. He wanted to bring his hands up as well, trail them over her body and pin her against the wall, forget this whole thing kriffing happened, but instead he sat wide eyed as her lips met his. They did flutter close, and he came rather quickly to find her touch warming in a way Rex had never felt before.
When they broke apart, she finally spoke.
“No one did.” She repeated.
He sighed, but it came out more of a groan. Her hands dropped down to the bottom hem of his blacks, looking so disapproving of the little scratches that cut through the fabric. As her hands gripped the soft hem of his shirt, he lifted up his arms and let her slowly peel it off. His skin immediately prickled at the cold air of her apartment. Still in this time of complete vulnerability he managed to get annoyed at how cold her apartment really was.
“Here,” She muttered, going over and holding the shower curtain open. “You should clean up.”
Rex grunted and pushed himself off the toilet seat, watching her diligently as she turned on the water and ran her fingers through the spray the shower head let out, waiting for it to turn warm. He took careful steps until his hands rested on her waist, no longer caring for the stains it might leave. His mouth rested above her ear, his breath a warm gush of air on her neck.
“Join me,” He whispered to her, in the insistent and needy tone she knew was trouble. Not that she didn’t enjoy the kind of trouble he was implying, but even he should’ve known it wasn’t the time.
She slipped away from his grasp and shook her head, persistent. Rex practically whined, following her movements around the bathroom with his arms open.
“You should clean yourself up,” She argued, but her hands couldn’t resist coming to the very top of his chest, where his pecs met his collarbone. “I’ll only distract you.”
She didn’t even realize she was being backed up until the backs of her calves met the marble that separated the flooring from the shower.
“I want you to distract me,” Rex insisted, taking her wrists. She clicked her tongue and one hand came up to rest on his shoulder. “Cyare. Please distract me from everything.”
She wanted to say no, because deep inside her she wanted him to talk. Tell her what happened and what was going on in that pretty little head of his. Instead of keeping it to himself and the nights when she would be too drunk to respond, and then too nervous to say anything about it
Despite all of it that plagued her mind, she couldn’t say no to him.
“Okay.” Rather rushed, her hands came to the hem of her shirt and she lifted it effortlessly, leaving her breasts fully exposed. She then pulled both her sweats and panties down. Following her actions, Rex took off his blacks and boxers. She pushed the shower curtain away and stepped in, guiding Rex in gently before her hands went to his closely cropped bleached hair. It had grown out just a little since he had last cut it, making it possible for her to sink her fingers in and tug at them insistently. He groaned deep from his chest when she did, his neck being sprayed by the warm water.
“Kriff,” Rex muttered as his hands came up to brush against her bare hips. She sighed and brought her arms up, letting her hands meet behind his head. She rocked her slowly, like they were both slow dancing in the rain, or just the spray of the shower. “You’re perfect, you know that right?”
She smiled, the first real smile of the night and shook her head.
“`M not perfect,” She said, and he tutted before pushing her against the wall, taking her thigh and bringing it over his hip. That’s when she could feel him. His whole length, warm and hard against her lower stomach. When she whimpered, her entrance dampening, he nipped at her ear.
“You’re perfect to me,” Rex said, softly kissing the shell of her ear. He rocked slowly against her, trying to relieve himself of the ache that they’d created between both of their legs. “For me. To me. Always good to me.” When her hand crept up again to tug at his hair, he groaned softly into her ear.
“Rex…” She muttered. He pulled away from her side and looked her in the eye. He rocked his hips forward, his tip running over her lower lips up and down, and she moaned softly.
“Please, cyare.” He could see how the worry creases only got darker when he winced trying to pull back from her. This is what he needed. It’s what they both needed, he was sure, to get this whole kriffing situation out of their heads. “I… I need this.”
For a second Rex thought she was going to continue to push back on him, but she finally softened and let her face relax. Her hand came down and took him in her hand, softly stroking him with a sense of love and thoughtfulness so strong, stronger than he’d ever felt it in her touch. She readjusted so the tip was nuzzled into the shallows of her entrance and then looked up at him with doe eyes. His forehead pressed to hers and he groaned in satisfaction. Finally, he could just feel his skin on hers. Get lost in her body and not come up until dawn. Then, he could be able to talk through it with her. Alleviate any anxieties that could possibly be plaguing her mind.
“Then just fuck me already,” She rasped out.
With that, any sense of self restraint broke down. He pushed into her, and like two pieces of hot glass they melded into each other. She moaned, but it was quiet over the sound of his own heart beating. He was trying so hard to get lost in her, that Rex was finding himself getting lost in his own.
He stilled in her, relishing in the warmth that rushed through his body. Not just from the hot water either. He dipped down, looking at her teary eyed and mouth open. Leaving a soft kiss on her lips, he began to roll his hips slowly into her. She sighed.
“Oh…” It came out of her mouth inadvertently, unintentionally. She seemed a disarray under him. But Rex couldn’t seem to make out the exact emotion on her. Fucking would clear it all away though. They could go to bed cuddled up to each other and forget any of this ever happened.
The grip he held on her thigh slipped and she bounced her higher up; he had more access to her soft, unmarked neck. He kept thrusting as he nipped at it. She tugged at his hair again.
Rex groaned.
“Just like that, ner kar’ta,” He rasped, biting at her skin with his front teeth. She gasped, her thighs clenching harder around his waist, pushing his cock in deeper. She moaned, louder at the stretch. It had been so long since they were together like this, so close and sweet and vulnerable.
Rex started to move more, harder and faster, holding her against the shower wall firm and hid his face under her jaw. She could feel the resistance in his body; everything in him was telling him to lay down, rest or open himself in a way he hasn’t that night. But with every thrust he pushed against it. He was too rough for the softness his body begged for.
“I…” The word came out like a mistake from her lips. Rex ignored it, moving his hand so his thumb rested over her clit and rubbed in the part she needed the most with every roll of his hips. She gasped, and moaned against him, her forehead coming to rest against his.
“I worry,” It finally came out. His eyes opened and met hers, which were blown wide and filled with tears. “I want you to talk.”
He stopped for just a moment, processing it, trying to let it sink into his skin and his mind, but then he only thrusted again. She sighed and closed her eyes.
“You… you’ll fuck me like talking it out isn’t an option.” Her nails scratched an itch in his scalp he didn’t now he had and trailed down his neck, to the strong muscles of his back, using it as a rock as he continued to fuck her. “But it is.”
He groaned, from pleasure and from anguish simultaneously, unable to separate the two in his state. Before he knew it, a tear fell down his face, because he knew what she was saying was true.
“It is, but for some reason you think it isn’t…” She said weakly, almost drowned out completely by the water. “And you, oh-”
Her body twitched at one movement, and Rex knew he had found the spot. He knew it would set them back if he kept going, but he had to. If it meant he could feel her quivering thighs around him. He thrusted and hit the spot again, but not with the energy he could’ve. Because still, the part of him that needed to hear what she was saying held him back.
“Y-you should know, I want you to know so kriffing bad,” She practically sobbed , and it broke Rex’s heart. “I’m here, and I want to help you. I’d never let you hurt yourself like this. Fall asleep next to you knowing you’re hurt. I stay up and wait, and you still don’t know why…”
She caught her breath and moaned again when his nail lightly scratched over her clit. He was shaking as well. Both of them were close.
“I worry, Rex.”
With that, he came deep inside her. He knew it was probably unwise to finish inside her without pulling out, but he didn’t have the space to think about that. He kept rocking into her slowly, and she bucked into him, trying to reach her peak as well. But when he softened and pulled out, she rubbed her inner thighs despondent.
When she looked up at him, tears had stained his face. His eyes were shut so hard it could’ve etched permanent marks. His breath shallow, he finally peeled open one eyelid, saw the precipice he left her on, and immediately dropped down to his knees.
He ate her out for what felt like years, cleaning up her blemished thighs and holding her in place until she finally came as well. She could barely hold herself up, but he did all the hard work, her thighs over his shoulders as he continued to lazily lick circles as the aftershocks of her orgasm crashed over her.
Despite the pressure her thighs had over his ears and the thrumming of the shower, he could still hear her clearly repeat, over and over.
“I worry, I worry, and I'm sorry.”
Rex finally came up for air and wrapped his arms around her waist, kissing the crown of her head.
“I know you do,” He finally said, and she sighed, a mix between defeated and relieved.
She grabbed a tub of shampoo, and languidly began to lather his hair with it. His eyes fluttered close and he groaned, satisfaction that ran deeper than the warm touch flowing through his veins. He poured some into his hands as well and washed her, slowly gathering all of her hair and taking extra care to assure that none of it got into her eyes. As they cleaned each other up, lovingly and without any rush, he asked her:
"Can you make a promise for me?"
She nodded eagerly.
"I don't want you to worry," He shook his head, disapproving at the mere idea of her having to worry another day about him. "And I'd do anything so you don't..."
He let out a shaky breath, before he said what she had been dying, wishing to hear for far too long.
"I'll talk to you. Kriff, I'll tell you everything about my day. Every single detail. The good stuff, the bad stuff, all of it. Nothing left out. Can you please promise me, you won't worry? That you won't stay up late at night waiting for me?"
She wrapped her arms tight and secure around his neck, looking up at him and blinking away tears that threatened to fall down her face.
"A-As long as you talk," She said. "And you let me take care of you the way you deserve."
With that, Rex nodded, and kissed her hard and sweet under the water, gripping onto her like she was the only thing keeping him afloat. Her hands came up to his hair and continued scrubbing out the hair products, still methodically cleaning him. Once they broke away, she fully got back to work giving him everything she could.
“We lost Friar,” He told her as she was disinfecting cuts over his stomach. An outlying droplet of conditioner fell down the side of his face, but he couldn’t find the energy to wash it away. It dripped down his chin and onto her chest as he spoke. “He was that shiny I told you about. The one that always insisted he get all the boys’ cafs. Never got an order wrong once.”
He continued to list the brothers he lost that mission. In all the crossfire and colliding with cascading rocks on the canyon covered planet they found themselves on. Sev, their medic in action had been trying to patch up the gash on Rex’s face when he got shot down by some clankers. Commander Tano and Bits had gotten cornered by a mountainous beast not even the most educated of their battalion could identify and Bits had taken it down before getting impaled. A shiny who hadn’t even gotten his name yet lost his hand. The mission had left so many of his brothers littered over the grounds, and for what? They were told there was a separatist base, yet there was not one in sight. General Skywalker with his force sensitivity couldn’t even sniff it out.
“It just…” He gasped out, suddenly overcome with a strong feeling in his gut. “Just reminded me how expendable me and my brothers are. How worthless we are to the Republic. And I almost forgot…”
“Stop,” she interrupted. Her hands came up to push away water that fell down his face and looked into his amber eyes. “People like the chancellor have obviously never met a clone. They’ve never met you.”
He pursed his lips before he relaxed and sighed. His eyes fluttered a bit, almost closing, but they stayed glued to hers.
“You’re the least ‘expendable’ person I've met. In every definition.” She went on her tip toes and pulled him down to give him a full kiss on his lips. “You know the name of every one of your brothers in the 501st. I'm sure I could quiz you and you’d get a perfect 100.” That was able to crack a smile on his face, brightening them both. “When you arrive home before me, you set out clothes and a towel. You never finish anything in the kitchen. Even if there's barely any left, you leave it for me to finish. You're one of the greatest things that's happened to me.”
Rex almost couldn’t believe what she was saying. For once, unlike all the nights he spent pouring out those thoughts while she was drunk, she responded. And it was exactly what he had hoped she’d say. What he imagined her saying in scenarios late at night if she fell asleep before him and left him to think. Somehow, she managed to be even more perfect for him.
He was so lost in her eyes and the world she created for the two of them, it took him a few moments to notice that she turned the shower off and guided him out. He blinked and quickly wrapped a towel around his waist, watching as she dried herself off and grabbed her hairbrush. He stood behind her, almost like a looming tower over her body as she softly brushed her hair, letting it rest on her bare shoulders as she pulled on the panties and sweatpants she left on the cold tiles of the bathroom.
“Come to bed with me?” He asked. She grinned, shaking her head, but they both knew she wasn’t refusing. It was rare that she could say no to Rex in this state.
She quickly flicked off the lights, put on a shirt (which just so happened to be one of his that he always liked to leave at her place), and followed him devoutly before falling into his embrace on the bed. The moment she was fully wrapped in his tight hug, his arms hard and warm against her cold skin, she had no worries running through her mind.
“You’re perfect, you know,” He said, lovingly stroking her hair behind her ear. “Have my whole heart. Ner kar’ta, cyar’ika.”
She smiled into his neck and traced circles on his shoulder blade, finally feeling truly warm in the cold depths of her apartment the whole night.
"Yet you say that like you're not."

Captain Rex x reader Summary: Finally back on Coruscant, Rex makes his way to your place, intent on spending the night there with you. Little does he know, you have other better plans for him. Word Count: 2k C/W: fluff, fluff and more fluff Prompt: "You did all this... for me?" prompt list my masterlist
The jolt of the LA-AT landing on solid ground almost brings tears of relief to Rex’s eyes.
Kriffing finally.
He was supposed to have been back on Coruscant weeks ago, but this particular mission had dragged on and on endlessly. When he found out they were finally coming home, the very first thing he did was send you a hurried comm to let you know. And now that he was planet-side, all he wanted to do was hold you in his arms and never let go again.
He stumbled out of the ship, his boot catching on the ledge in his haste to get out. A muffled chuckle behind him made him straighten up, sending a glare over his shoulder.
"In a hurry, Captain?" Jesse teased, stepping out of the gunship pointedly gracefully. Rex raised an eyebrow in warning, turning to face him fully and getting ready to defend himself, but Jesse beats him to it, holding a hand up to stop him.
"Just tell her I said hi, will you?"
Rex flushes, opening his mouth to reply but deciding it's not worth it, settling on just shaking his head fondly instead, a look of mock annoyance on his face to cover up the blush.
"Keep yourself out of trouble, trooper," he says over his shoulder as a cab pulls up on the curb, "and try not to get picked up by the Corries again"
Jesse puts on a shit-eating grin, sending him a salute and a cheeky wink. "No promises, Captain."
---
When the cab pulls up next to your house, Rex is surprised to see you already waiting outside, leaning against the wall with a soft smile.
The sight of you automatically brings a smile to his own face. He tosses a couple credits to the driver, eyes still glued on you as he scrambles out the cab.
Your smile widens as he jogs over, pushing off the wall as soon as he’s close enough and laughter bubbling as he wraps his arms around you.
You return the hug, squealing in surprise when he picks you up, twirling you around a couple times before finally setting your feet back down on the floor.
"Maker, you have no idea how much I missed you," he whispers, his hands falling to rest on your hips.
You giggle in response, balancing on the tips of your toes and reaching up to peck his lips, pulling back far too quickly for his liking.
“Missed you more, Captain."
You give him a cheeky smile before wriggling out of his hold. He frowns, going to reach for you again, but you're already walking over towards your speeder.
"Are you… going somewhere?"
"Yep," you chirp happily, clambering into the seat. "And so are you."
He raises his eyebrows at you, smiling slowly. "Oh really?"
You turn the speeder on, and a low hum fills the air. "Yeah, really," you wink, jerkin' your head back to the seat behind you. "Hop on trooper."
He chuckles, shaking his head at you but climbs on behind you anyway.
His arms loop around your waist when you pull away from the curb, gripping tightly as you weave in and out of the Coruscant lanes with practised ease. You feel his breath on your neck as he rests his chin on your shoulder, smiling when you feel him press a kiss to your cheek.
---
The traffic is a distant hum in the background when you pull up next to the roof of one of the construction buildings on the outskirts of the bustling city.
Here, the neon lights are dimmer but still bright enough to be able to see each other clearly, the light of the moon mixing with the bright colours to bathe you both in soft light.
You clamber off onto the roof, offering a hand to Rex with a cheeky smile. He lifts a brow at you.
"Isn’t that what I’m supposed to do?"
You merely shrug, moving your hand closer and he chuckles in response, grasping your hand anyway and stepping down beside you. He makes a quick glance around the building, taking it in.
It’s not entirely finished, with scaffolding still standing in a couple of places and railing missing from the edges of the roof.
"Is this legal?"
"Probably not," you shrug, tilting your head and smiling teasingly. "Why? You're going to back out on me, Captain?"
"And miss out on being here with you?" He grins, pulling you in by the waist and nuzzling his nose to yours. "Not a chance, meshla."
Giggling, you let him hold you a few seconds more before pulling back again, leaning over to grab your bag for the speeder. You go to sling it over your shoulder, but he stops you, grabbing the strap and swinging it over his shoulder instead.
You send him a grateful smile, followed by a peck on the cheek, before grabbing his hand and leading him around the corner.
He stumbles behind you, trying to keep from stepping on your heels as you drag him behind you excitedly. He collides softly with your back when you stop abruptly, his free hand moving to your shoulder to steady himself.
You move to the side, still holding his hand and eagerly watching his face as he takes in the view in front of him. His mouth parts in surprise, his hand loosening its hold on yours.
You’ve chosen a small corner of the roof with a ledge that overlooks the city, far enough away from everything that it’s private and secluded. There’s a small blanket set up on the floor, a couple cushions sitting on it with a big fluffy blanket folded up beside them.
He watches as you walk over to the scaffolding behind, hands disappearing as you reach around it, a quiet click echoing before a handful of tiny lights you’ve strung on the frame come to life, bathing the little corner in a soft warm glow.
"So, what’d you think?"
You turn to look at him expectantly, and it’s in that moment - your eyes shinning and skin bathed in the soft twinkle of the fairy lights - that he’s struck with the sudden realisation of just how stunningly beautiful you are.
He stares at you, faintly aware of you waiting for him to answer but not quite managing to formulate a response, his thoughts too busy with just how utterly smitten he is for you.
His lack of reaction makes you doubt yourself, with your feet shifting nervously.
"We can just go back home if you prefer. That’s fine too.
He blinks a couple times, quickly coming to his senses and shaking his head "No, of course not. I- It just surprised me, that’s all."
"Oh. Are you sure? I mean I know it's not much but-"
He chuckles, his hands coming up to cup your cheeks, stopping your nervous ramblings.
"It’s perfect meshla. I love it."
You smile shyly, avoiding his gaze as a blush spreads on your cheeks. "I just... well, I know you’ve been working really hard lately, and the last mission was a real kicker, and l- I just thought you would like this..."
You trail off, glancing up at him through your eyelashes. He’s looking down at you like you’re the most amazing thing in the whole kriffing galaxy.
"You did all this... for me?"
"Of course," you reply immediately, like it was an obvious fact. "Why wouldn’t I?"
He’s still staring at you with the same look on his face, his head shaking slightly in disbelief and a smile slowly spreading on his face. You’re about to ask him what's wrong when he loops his fingers in your belt, yanking you closer and leaning down until your foreheads bonk together gently.
"I love you so damn much, y’know that?" He whispers against your lips, his hands galling to your waist and squeezing. You giggle, arms coming up to loop around his neck before muttering a smug reply.
"Yeah, I know."
He rolls his eyes playfully, pinching your waist in retaliation and making you jump.
"Wow, I confess my undying love for you, and that’s all you’ve got? 'Yeah I know.'" He pitches his voice higher on the last couple words in an attempt to imitate your voice.
You scoff in mock offense, slapping his chest. "That is not what I sound like. Besides, you already know I love you, Rex."
He hums, smiling cheekily and winking.
"Yeah, but it's still nice to hear you say it."
You return the smile, rolling your eyes playfully before stepping up on your toes and bracing your hands on his chest to keep balance. Leaning up to kiss his cheek, you start to speak between kisses
"I" you move to the other cheek, pressing a kiss there too.
"am utterly" a kiss to his forehead.
"and completely" a gentle peck his nose, before you're moving to his lips, whispering the last words against them
"In love with you."
You close the gap, pressing your lips to his in a soft kiss. You feel him smiling against your lips as he kisses you back, his fingers threading through your hair and cradling the nape of your neck.
When he pulls back, you’re met with his eyes fixed on yours, crinkled at the edges and so full of undeniable love that it almost makes you blush.
"Now that was more like it."
You groan, rolling your eyes fondly, and push a hand to his chest. He chuckles, catching your wrist and pulling you in for a tight hug.
You soak up the closeness for a little longer, your face pressed up against his chest so tight that you can feel his heart beat on your cheek. He presses a kiss to the crown of your head, playfully tapping his fingers against your butt to get your attention.
"C'mon, let's sit down before it gets too cold."
Reluctantly, you pull away, keeping your hand in his as he drags you over to the blanket. He sits on the edge, feet dangling off and thighs spread wide. He looks up at you, patting the space between his legs and pulling you toward him.
Smiling fondly, you let him pull you down, settling between his thighs and resting your back on his chest. He loops his arms around your stomach, pulling you in closer and pressing a kiss to your temple.
You twist slightly, making grabby-hands for your bag that's been left discarded to the side. Rex chuckles, leaning over and stretching his hand far enough to curl them around the strap and pull it closer
As soon as it's within your reach, you stick your hand inside it, the sound of glass clinking echoing as you pull out a bottle of booze. You push it into his chest, smile bright enough to rival the neon lights.
“For you”
He holds it up so the lights you strung up behind shine on it, illuminating the writing as he squints his eyes, reading the label. A grin spreads on his face when he realises what it is.
“Correllian Whiskey?”
You nod enthusiastically, winking at him “Your favourite”
His chest rumbles against your hand, a hearty chuckle bubbling out of him. He places a tender kiss on your forehead whispering a thank you against your skin.
Cracking the bottle open, he takes a generous swig of the amber liquid before silently handing it to you. You accept it gratefully, sipping and cringing at the burn as it goes down your throat.
Setting the bottle down with a soft clang you snuggle back into his strong chest, sighing contentedly and tangling your fingers with his, squeezing tightly.
You shiver slighly and before you know it, he's unfolding the blanket, throwing it over his shoulders and bring it around to wrap around you too.
"Better?"
"Much better" you smile, pecking his lips "thank you"
Toothy grin spreading on his face, he tucks the blanket around you tighter, pressing a wet kiss to the side of your neck and making you giggle.
A comfortable silence fills the night air, just the hum of traffic and the sound of sound of your synchronized breathing.
You nod towards the view of the city, eyes following the colourful light of the endless stream of speeders zooming by. Even this time of night, the city was full of life, ever bustling with activity.
"It’s pretty, isn’t it?"
Rex hums distracted, pressing a kiss to your cheek and you smile, rolling your eyes.
"You’re not even looking, are you?”
You feel him shrug against your back, his thumb brushing softly over your knuckles and smile evident in his voice as he whispers into your neck
"Something far prettier s’got all my attention right now."

Hi friend! Sorry that your semester has been miserable, I’ve been there and promise you it gets better- one day you’ll be at your commencement ceremony wondering how the heck you made it! 🥹
I had a cute idea for Rex, Wolffe or possibly Echo where they and the reader are in a relationship but not quite officially but they (and everyone else) kind of assume they are a thing. What if reader had a special talent that their clone partner had no idea about. Maybe they are at 79’s and reader can dance really well to the point she gathers a crowd. Or maybe she is an artist and doesn’t like to brag about it, but she invites her squad to opening night of her art gallery exhibition. Something like that! Thought it would be such a cute idea to see the boys gushing over her talents 🙈
Enjoy that wine- I’ll open a bottle in solidarity ✊
thank you!! honestly i'm just counting down the days until graduation next month 😂 this was such a cute idea and i hope you enjoy it!!

A Work of Art
“Are you sure we should be doing this?” Echo asked his brothers as they ducked behind a speeder to avoid being noticed. “I don’t think Rex would be too happy if he knew we were following him.”
Fives shrugged. “Maybe not, but you know the Captain would never introduce us to his civvie girlfriend if he could help it.”
“I don’t know if she’s his girlfriend Fives,” Kix cut in as they started to slowly walk down the street, trying to keep their commanding officer from hearing anything while also keeping him in their sights. Thankfully, all of them had the insight to wear their civvie clothes and leave their armor back at the barracks. “He hasn’t said anything about it.”
“From the dopey smile he wears all the time, I think it’s safe to assume there’s something going on between them,” Jesse said. “And I’m dying to know what she looks like.”
“How do you even know there’s a girl involved?” Echo said.
“I overheard him saying something to Cody about his plans for leave,” Fives assured his twin. “I didn’t get the whole conversation, but Rex said he was going to see her tonight.”
The others nodded and Echo looked like he was going to say something in response, but their attention was pulled away by the fact that Rex had taken a turn and was now walking into a building. The four of them exchanged looks and waited a few moments before joining the crowd of people that were also walking inside.
The crowd shuffled through long halls and eventually they were standing in a brightly lit room. Fives and Jesse were immediately distracted by the complimentary drinks and snacks that were making their way around the room on server’s trays, while Echo and Kix started to walk around and look at what was hanging on the walls.
Nearly every wall was lined with art, and every piece was nothing short of breathtaking. They could recognize beautiful landscapes from planets like Felucia, Naboo, and Alderaan, the tall city-scape of the Coruscant skyline, and even portraits of different animals. Some were easily recognizable, like the one of a tooka napping next to a lake, and other were things none of them had ever seen before, like the painting of what looked like a small red lizard-bug that lived among bright plants underwater.
“Wow,” Echo said. “This place is amazing.”
At this point Fives and Jesse had returned to the group, and they nodded in agreement. “I can see why the Captain wanted to take his date here.”
“I’m glad you like them,” a new voice entered the conversation, and all four troopers turned to see you standing there in a simple black dress, a bright smile on your face. “It’s always nice to hear people compliment my art.”
“YOU did all this?” Fives’ eyes were as wide as saucers, and you stifled a laugh at his expression.
“I did,” you said. “This is my gallery, and for tonight only, every piece on display is mine.”
“That’s amazing,” Jesse said, still a little bit in awe.
The bashful smile on your face proved that you were taking their compliments seriously, and right as you were about to say something in response, a familiar voice entered the conversation. “There you are! I was looking everywher-”
Rex’s voice trailed off as he realized that four of the troopers under his command were standing in front of him. “Hi Captain! Funny seeing you here,” Fives said, a knowing smile on his face.
Rex looked like he was desperately trying to hold back a sigh. “What are you all doing here?” he asked tiredly. “Did you follow me?”
“Maybe.”
“He means yes,” Echo said.
“But we didn’t want to bother you, I promise!” Jesse said. “We just wanted to spy on you and your new civvie girlfriend.”
Rex opened his mouth to respond, but stopped as you began to laugh loudly. “So I’m guessing you’re part of the 501st then?”
Fives nodded. “How did you-”
“Wait!” Jesse cut him off. “Are YOU the captain’s girlfriend?”
“We’re not exactly official yet, but I’d like to think so,” you responded.
Jesse turned his attention back to Rex, eyebrows raised. “And why haven’t you officially asked her out yet?”
“I was going to this evening, if you di’kuts hadn’t crashed the event,” Rex retorted playfully.
You just laughed at the exchange, and Echo knew that he had to step in. Gently herding his brothers away from you and the Rex, he apologized for intruding on the evening and walked over to stare at the painting of the red underwater lizard-bug again.
For the rest of the night, every time he snuck little glances back at you and Rex, the two of you had lovestruck looks on your faces. And judging from the time that he looked over to see you kissing, he guessed that Rex had actually worked up the courage to make things official.

A warm sea breeze lazily drifts over the beach club as sun beams lightly kiss the skin of vacationers and employees. Cheers and shouts from the shoreline harmonize with the ocean’s rolling waves as children splash around in the crystal blue waters. Parents sit under umbrellas with blankets and coolers of snacks while they keep a careful eye on their kids as they enjoy a moment of relaxation. Other patrons chat excitedly as they wander around the cabanas and different restaurants on the property.
Arching your back with a satisfied hum, you sink further into your lounge chair. Although your movement is limited with the weight of your lover’s body resting on your chest. Rex’s sleeping expression pinches at your movement, and his arms tighten around your waist.
“Where do you think you’re going,” he asks. His voice thick with sleep now rumbles against your skin with its low vibrato that sends shivers through you.
You peer down at him over your sunnies with an amused expression. “No where, I promise. I was, however, trying to get more comfortable, but it seems like someone’s more concerned about their afternoon nap,” you lightly tease. Rex presses his face into the crook of your neck and groans, which pulls a melodious laugh from you.
The two of you were granted an extended leave after the most recent battle. Without a second thought, Rex started to pack both your bags as he muttered under his breath about everything his commanding officers and brothers put him through with the latest so called plan. As he flew across your room looking for your favorite outfits, you quickly reserved a private cabana for the two of you to hide away and enjoy from prying eyes. Neither of you want to lift a single finger, and both of you made a secret promise to make sure the other didn’t as well.
Rex has never thought too much of what his future would be. The sensitive heart that makes it home in his chest shies away from false hope. After losing so many brothers and close friends, Rex isn’t sure he could survive even one more crack in his tattered heart. Yet when he pulls away from your soft skin, he melts when he meets your adoring expression. Late afternoon sunlight frames you in a breathtaking glow that makes Rex fall in love with you all over again. Only this time it feels like the air is knocked out of him, and Rex falls harder for you. “What would you like to do, hm?” Rex asks as one of his arms slips from your waist and cups your cheek.
Even with the summer heat, you alway find comfort in Rex’s warmth. Leaning into his palm, your eyes flutter shut for a moment as you hum in thought. “How about dinner and drinks? Been here all morning, and we forgot to bring a cooler and our beach bag today,” you muse out loud and look at him once more. Your mind finally slows into a languid peaceful bliss after half a month disconnected from the rest of the galaxy. Never in a rush to get from place to place as you focus on enjoying the taste of normalcy with your riduur.
“Then dinner and drinks, we will find,” Rex agrees with a groan as he pulls away from you. Slipping off the lounge chair, Rex stretches his arms above his head. When he opens his eyes to catch you unabashedly checking him out, Rex’s cheeks blush a deeper red from the already existing sun kiss to his cheeks. “Alright, enough of that. There’ll be plenty of time for whatever daydream you’ve come up with later,” Rex rushes to try and tame the butterflies soaring in a flurry within his stomach. He dips down and loops on arm under your knees as the other rests on your lower back.
As Rex pulls you up to his chest, your chest sears with excited nerves as laughter falls from your lips. “Rex,” you cry out in giddy disbelief. Wrapping your arms around his neck, you rest your head on his shoulder while he begins to walk towards your favorite of the club restaurants. “Please, don’t drop me,” you breathe out. You trust Rex implicitly, but the lingering nerves make you press closer to him.
Rex glances down at you with a soft expression. “I will never drop you, cyar’ika. I’m always going to be there to catch you,” he promises you. Something squeezes at his lungs when you look up at him in utter adoration, and Rex swears to himself that he will always try to keep that expression on your face. Wholly devoted to your wellbeing and happiness, Rex has never felt more at home than he has in this moment.

the soap stall
Rex x reader (gn)
summary: Going on a Christmas market with Rex!
warnings: none, just fluff
word count: ~890
advent calendar masterlist
a/n: this is the nineteenth fic for my advent calendar! i really wish i would have had more time to go on some christmas markets this year. well, maybe next year!
Tumblr media
You are walking through a small alley.
Left and right are small little cottages, their roofs coated with a white layer of snow. Everything is lit up with yellow and orange shining fairy lights. It smells like cinnamon, mulled wine and food of different kinds.
You walk through different people, accidentally bumping in a few of them. Here and there are small kids running around you, chasing each other and laughing wholeheartedly.
It brings a smile to your lips.
Happy, you turn around as you come to a small clearing between all the people. Your hand is attached to Rex' and spends both of you some warmth. Smiling, you pull him closer to you, so he's standing right in front of you.
"What do you want to do first?" he asks as he comes to a stop, pulling you a little closer to him.
"Hmmm... What about eating something first? And then we could go back to the soap store. That woman had some cute looking ones!" you say, thinking about that cupcake shaped soap you saw earlier.
Rex nods in agreement. "Sounds good. Can we go and look at those wooden carvings again, after that?" he wants to know. "And what do you think about tarte flambée?" he suggests, and you nod enthusiastically.
Together, you walk over to the small market stall, deciding each for a tarte and waiting together, before standing at a small table next to each other, enjoying your hot food.
"Can I take a bite of yours?" you ask the blonde man. Rex smiles knowingly and nods, "Only when I can try yours, too."
Excited, you exchange your tartes, sighing at the new taste on your tongue, before changing it back.
"Mine's better," Rex thinks out loud after swallowing.
"Yeah, kinda true. But I like mine, too," you agree, nodding.
After you finish your food, you start walking again, holding each other's hands again. You love how his big hand wraps around yours so perfectly, keeping it warm. While you walk, you also start to lean on his shoulder a little bit, enjoying his closeness.
After quite some time, you pass the soap stall again, coming to a halt.
Fascinated, you look around the different soaps, enjoy different smells and talk to the elderly woman.
While you talk, you don't notice how Rex slips his hand out of yours, walking over to a stall next to the one with the soaps.
The kind woman tells you about her family business and how her uncle found it and about her two daughters started to help her out, now that her uncle passed away recently.
Amazed by the woman and the soap, you can't resist and buy a few creations, barely noticing how Rex comes back and holds his thumb up towards the woman.
Questioning, you raise your eyebrow, but Rex just smiles innocently and shrugs his shoulders before grabbing your hand again.
Together, you walk across different stalls, laughing and smiling, paying more attention to the ones you already found interesting the first time you walked through the small Christmas market.
Now and then, the two of you come to a halt in front of one of the small cottages, talk to the people and occasionally buy something.
Rex is particularly interested in a small shop with wooden carvings and asks the owner a few things about his tools and different kinds of woods before deciding that he wouldn't buy anything, much to the seller's disappointment.
As the evening slowly turns into night, you find yourself sitting next to each other on a small bench a few meters away from the crowded market. You share a cup of hot punch and a sweet crêpe with chocolate and fresh fruits and enjoy each other's company.
Between bites and sips, you smile at each other and exchange quiet words.
"Where did you go earlier?" you ask after the last bite of the delicious food.
Rex looks at you. His cheeks warm up a bit before he starts smiling again.
He shrugs his shoulders again, keeping quiet.
"Come on, don't keep your secrets! They're safe with me!" you try to convince him, but he doesn't relent: "It's a surprise."
A little bit frustrated, you sigh through your nose and start to pout playfully, a little bit annoyed at your own curiosity.
After some more time spent together and a few more things you bought, you feel like your toes and nose are going to fall off because of the cold. Together, you decide to head home and let the evening fade out lazily on the couch, Rex' secret already forgotten.
It's a few weeks later, when you finally learn about his little surprise.
While he got the kind woman to talk to you to distract you, he went off to the jeweler next to the soap stall and bought a necklace for you.
He had already seen it when you walked past the stall the first time. Not only did he know that you would absolutely love it, but he also found it as beautiful as you and couldn't stop imagining you with it. So in the end, it wasn't really a surprise that he took the first opportunity to run over to the stall and buy the piece of jewelry as a Christmas gift for you.
