Prompt: “I’m sorry, I’m probably suffocating you.” (Cuddling)
The only reason I chose Rex is because hands down Fives would not care. He is a shameless cuddle bug. Rex worries.
Warnings: none, just fluffy domesticity with Rex.”
Cuddles (Rex x Reader)
The holo-reality show was honestly oretty boring and campy, but it was the only thing on that didn’t have to do with the war. You were tucked comfortably into Rex’s side, eyes dropping and lashes obscuring your view.
You tried to stifle a yawn, but to no avail as your lover caught it out of the corner of his eye.
Weariness laced Rex’s voice. “Ready to go to bed, Cyare?”
You sighed and stretched. “I think I’m going to fall asleep right here.”
A soft chuckle left him as he kissed your temple and stood up,striding towards the bedroom. You couldn’t help but gaze at him, stripped down to his blacks, muscles showing beautifully under the snug fabric.
You hauled yourself up and trotted behind him to change into your nightclothes as he climbed into bed, but only sat there, waiting for you. You knew exactly what he wanted.
With a slight smile gracing your lips, you slid in next to him and lay flat on your back. Once you were situated, he flopped down on top of you and wrapped his arms around your back. You giggled and ran a hand over his buzzed hair. He lifted his head from your chest and squinted to see your face in the dark.
“I’m sorry, I’m probably suffocating you.”
You smiled and shook your head. “I’m fine. Go to sleep.”
He faceplanted into your chest again and snuggled closer. Another giggle left your lips and he groaned ‘what’ without lifting his head.
“Just never thought that the hardcore captain of the 501st would be such a cuddler.”
“‘s rare.”
“Lucky me.” You cooed, pressing a kiss to the crown of his head.
“Lucky you.” He echoed as he drifted off.
You closed your eyes and held your beloved trooper close, ready to slip into the quiet night.

Oh, Captain - Rex (TCW)
Summary: The 501st is getting a new Co-General and Rex wants to be prepared. His brothers, however, dare him to flirt with a woman at 79s the night before. Length: 1370 words Warnings: Unnamed Female Character (Can be Read as OC or Reader); Rex's Horrible Flirting Skills; Fives is a Menace
Tumblr media
79s was packed full of clones as usual, though the color scheme of the night was predominantly blue and yellow for the 501st and 212th. They had just finished a battle together in the Mid Rim and returned to Coruscant to resupply before they shipped out again. And in the case of the 501st, they were on Coruscant to pick up their new Jedi general.
It was the only reason why Rex went out that night in the first place.
He had to make sure that all of his men were presentable for their meeting with the new assistant general, who had been assigned to the battalion so that General Skywalker could be called away more often. General Skywalker assured Rex that the new assistant general wouldn’t be that much of a stick in the mud, but Rex didn’t want to take a risk.
“Oh, come on, Rex, you heard the General. The new general’s fun. Have a drink for kriff’s sake,” Fives urged, placing a drink in front of Rex.
“I’m all set, Fives,” Rex replied, pushing the drink away from him.
“Who is the new assistant general, anyways?” Echo asked curiously, leaning over. “The Commander didn’t have a name.”
“I bet they’re a brand new Jedi. Young like General Skywalker,” Jesse stated, earning some nods. “He mentioned that they trained together.”
“It’s not for us to speculate,” Rex replied, earning a sigh from some of his brothers. “We need to be prepared. I don’t want the new general’s first impression of us to be that we look sloppy.”
“Oh, relax, Rex,” Cody spoke up, causing the rest of the 501st to perk up. If anyone could talk some sense into Rex, it would be Cody. “You’re going to be fine. Have a drink. We were just in trenches on a dustball for fifteen rotations. Or maybe make a new friend.”
“Like her,” Fives interjected, smacking Rex on the shoulder.
The entire table turned to watch a humanoid woman take a seat at the bar. A woman alone in a clone bar? It would be about five seconds before she was swarmed. But there was something about her that intrigued Rex. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there was just something about her that drew all of his attention without any work at all.
“I’ve never seen her here before,” Echo stated as the woman ordered a drink.
“I wouldn’t mind seeing her around,” Fives spoke up before glancing at Rex. “And looks like you wouldn’t either, Captain.”
“Not all of us think with what’s under our codpieces, Fives,” Rex grunted in return.
“I’m thinking that they are, though,” Jesse pointed out, gesturing to two clones who made their way over to the mysterious woman. “Hopefully her first experience with a clone isn’t one of Fox’s shinies. She’ll never come to a clone bar again.”
Rex glanced over at the woman again before getting up from his seat. Fives looked over at Echo with a shit-eating grin, to which Echo simply rolled his eyes. Rex walked around the bar, nodding to his brothers that he passed, but keeping his gaze on the mystery woman and the two clones that sat down next to her.
But before they got too far into a conversation, she seemed to say something with a seductive smile and his brothers got up and left her alone without a word of protest. Now, downright curious, Rex found his legs carrying him over to the woman. She turned her head and their eyes met for the first time. His heart seemed to stutter as he took the last few steps toward her.
“They weren’t bothering you, were they?” Rex asked, causing the woman to smile.
“No, not at all. I told them that I was just looking for a drink and nothing more. They seemed to do the rest of the math.” She took a sip of her drink, peering over the rim of her glass and practically into Rex’s soul. “Sorry if you were planning on playing hero, Commander.”
“It’s Captain, actually. Captain Rex,” Rex introduced himself, causing the woman’s eyes to widen a small fraction.
“My apologies, Captain Rex.”
And there was that arrhythmia again. Was this woman part-siren or something?
“You can just call me Rex,” he assured her, causing the woman to smile softly. “And what exactly should I call you, ma’am?”
“Anything but ‘ma’am’,” she quipped, taking another sip of her drink. “You’re making me feel a little too old, Captain.”
Kriff, he could get used to her calling him that.
They got to talking. Not so much specifics about themselves, but rather life around them. The GAR, galactic politics, the drink menu. Rex didn’t even realize that he literally didn’t know any basic facts about the woman until she got up to leave for the night.
“Do you come to this part of town often?” Rex asked, causing the woman to chuckle.
“Not usually, but I suppose I could make an exception . . . Captain.”
Rex watched her walk out the door before he was suddenly swarmed by brothers, rattling off question after question. Up until Cody, as the highest ranking officer of the bunch, took control of the situation and asked one simple question.
“What’s her name?”
Rex opened his mouth to reply, but instead winced, causing his brothers around him to groan.
“He’s hopeless,” Fives sighed, shaking his head.
“He was hopeless the second that he decided to follow your advice,” Echo pointed out.
*~*~*~*
Rex walked through the rows of his men, inspecting them one last time while the General and Commander brought aboard their new General. Co-General. Whatever. Either way, Rex wanted to impress them. And that meant that his men had to be in tip top shape. But when he heard the doors to the hangar open, Rex quickly took his place at the front.
Only to nearly drop his helmet when he recognized the woman walking with Anakin and Ahsoka. And when he heard Fives’s giggle, he could only swallow down a choice set of words.
“And here’s our captain, Rex,” Anakin introduced, causing their eyes to lock for the first time since the bar. “The best of the best.”
“I would expect no less,” she replied with an easygoing and mischievous smile. “It’s nice to meet you, Captain Rex.”
“You as well, General,” Rex practically choked out, trying to not sweat through his blacks.
“Rex, this the new co-general,” Ahsoka introduced, adding the general’s name. “She was Master Plo Koon’s padawan and served with the Wolffe Pack.”
“Why’d you leave it, General?” Rex directed towards the new general, who smiled at him.
“The Jedi Council needed someone to babysit General Skywalker and because I value public service above my own sanity—”
“—This whole spiel again?” Anakin complained, causing her to turn to him.
“You're just upset because Admiral Yularen laughed in your face when I told him what happened back on Corellia when you—”
“—Perhaps we should move on to the rest of the tour,” Anakin stressed, causing her to smirk.
“Of course.”
Anakin and Ahsoka led the way through the rows of troopers, though she lingered behind them. Looking over her shoulder, she offered Rex a smile that made his heart stop for a moment all over again.
“I’ll be back to meet the full battalion formally once the rest of my briefings are concluded. If that fits with your timeline, Captain?”
“Yes, of course, General.”
“Great.” She offered him a curt nod before that smirk returned. “And next time we’re at 79s, drinks are on me, Captain.”
The galaxy was testing him today, that was for sure. Rex watched her walk off with Anakin and Ahsoka before slowly putting his bucket back on his head.
“Fives,” he growled out. “You have exactly five seconds before—”
Fives took off in a sprint across the hangar and Rex took off after him. Echo sighed and shook his head before turning to his comms. Sending Commander Cody a message that Rex did learn that the woman that he was flirting with last night was the new general, Echo couldn’t help but laugh as he watched Fives evade Rex.
“Well, this is going to be interesting.”

Clone Troopers Masterlist
Tumblr media
Cold seeped into the small cabin from the non-insulated transparisteel of the window, and you watched as snow swirled around in the night air. The storm was growing more powerful by the second, and the fact that this place wasn’t exactly the height of luxury meant that the power had barely been enough to keep the lights on, let alone be able to provide a consistent source of heat. You groaned as you pulled every blanket you could find from the closet, and the fact that you only found two was certainly concerning.
Rex stepped into the cabin, a flurry of snow blowing in behind him as he swung the door closed. Even though he had been barely gone for ten minutes, and the helmet on his head meant that you couldn’t tell what his face looked like at the moment, you could tell that he was cold. Usually clones had higher body temperatures than humans did, so the fact that he was feeling the temperatures meant that it would be much worse for you. Part of you wondered if you were even going to make it through the night, but you preferred not to think about that.
The most insulting part of everything here was the fact that a Republic Gunship was currently stationed right outside this planet’s atmosphere, but the intense storms above where you were made it so that the rest of the 501st was unable to get through without severely risking life and limb, so you and the captain were stuck here until the storm stopped. At least the assignment you had been sent here to fulfill had gone to plan, you thought, because if it hadn’t, you have to have the worst luck out of everyone in the GAR. But with no droids or Sith on your tails, all you had to worry about was the cold.
You had thankfully packed a few hand-warmers before you left, but they were doing little to stave off the chill that threatened to freeze you solid. You handed one of the threadbare blankets off to Rex, who shook his head as he removed his helmet. “No, you need it more than I do.”
“I can tell you’re freezing too,” was your no-nonsense response. “I would never forgive myself if I was the one who got my commanding officer killed.”
Technically he wasn’t your commanding officer, but you trusted him with your life, and he knew a hell of a lot more about all this stuff than you did. Rex’s face changed, and you watched him wrestle with his emotions before finally sighing and taking the blanket from your hands.
The sooner that morning came, the sooner this experience would all be over, and the two of you shuffled off to opposite sides of the large couch before attempting to settle in for the night. Even with all the layers you were wearing and the blanket draped over yourself, you couldn’t help but shiver as you tried to relax.
The first hour was brutal.
Simply put, attempting to sleep like this was incredibly uncomfortable. Ignoring the fact that this old shelter had a bed frame but no mattress, the weather conditions were the the biggest reason for the fact that you had been unable to fall asleep. Wondering if Rex had managed to succeed where you couldn’t, you turned your head and looked over at him, right as he happened to look over at you.
“Too cold to sleep?” he asked, his voice soft.
Your response was accompanied by a shiver running through your body. “Yeah.”
“Me too,” he said, and you could feel the misery you both shared reverberate through the space as silence settled once more over you. In a shocking turn of events, Rex spoke again. “Why don’t you come over here and lay with me?” he said. “It’s no use for both of us to freeze on opposite sides of the couch.”
There was no arguing with him, it was the very thing you’d wanted to do since you handed over one of the blankets, but you would have never asked for yourself. Besides the fact that you considered him a direct superior, you would be lying to yourself if you didn’t say that Rex was incredibly attractive, and you did not want to feed into that silly crush by convincing yourself he felt the same way. Cuddling up together for the night was a survival tactic, nothing more.
You could feel one of his arms wrap around you as you layered your blanket on top of his, and you laid against him as best you could on the couch. You were certainly warmer (and more comfortable) than you had been before (Rex had thankfully taken his armor off), but you could still feel some of the biting chill of the air on your face.
“This should all be over in the morning,” you heard him say, and you weren’t sure if it was to convince himself or you, but either way, it did begin to work. Taking deep breaths and attempting to somehow pull your body heat together via telekinesis, you could feel your eyelids start to droop, and your last thought before drifting away was that you hoped Rex had found sleep too.
***
A beeping noise from your datapad was the thing that woke you up the next morning, and you shivered as you opened your eyes and realized that this damn cabin was still just as cold (if not colder) than it had been when you went to sleep.
Being close to Rex helped, clearly. As much as it was chilly and you could see your breath, you didn’t feel as though the cold had significantly affected your health, and you knew that it was because you had been able to conserve some of your body heat when you laid next to him. As you moved your arm towards where you had left your datapad (to stop its incessant beeping), you found it more difficult than expected.
Because as you soon found out, Rex had his arm around you.
It wasn’t difficult to escape his grip, since it was more like he was resting his arm on your back than truly holding you against, but you really didn’t want to pull away, even though you did. The feeling of the cabin’s cold air on your back was punishment enough for your treachery movement, but of course the captain had to yawn and shift at that very moment, with a look in his eyes that was adorably bleary as he woke up, even if it was just for a second.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, and you were certainly not prepared for the slightly gravelly edge that sleep had granted his voice.
Maker, did you want to kiss him right now, was what ran through your head in response. Not particularly helpful, but you couldn’t deny it.
“Still cold, but not terribly,” you said. “As long as we get out of here I think we’ll be okay.”
He nodded. “Do we know when the transport ship is coming?”
You paused for a moment as you checked your datapad for answers, but shook your head. “I sent Jesse the coordinates for our location last night, but there hasn’t been any word since.”
“We’re all packed though, so it shouldn’t be an issue,” he said. “And that means we don’t have to get up until we know we’re leaving.” You knew that his words were meant in that way because it was very cold in this room and your shared body heat was helping to keep both of you warm, but for a moment you allowed yourself to believe that maybe he said that because he wanted to keep cuddling with you.
A comfortable silence settled over the space as you waited for any kind of word from the rest of the 501st about when they were coming to get you. But of course, you did want to say one thing before the moment passed.
“Rex?”
“Hmm?”
“Thank you,” you said, and a look of confusion began to dawn on his face, so you continued. “For sharing your body heat with me.”
“Of course,” was his response, along with a smile you’d never seen before (but you’d pay an endless amount of credits to see forever).
Once more the conversation fizzled, and then after a period of time it was his turn to break the silence. “And if you’re still cold, I think I know of another way to help keep warm.”
“Really?” you asked, moving your body so that the two of you were facing each other. “What is it?”
“This,” Rex said gently before leaning in. However, he stopped right before your lips would have connected with his. “Is this okay?”
“Of course,” you breathed. The tiny gap between you was closed, and you suddenly forgot about the fact that you were in a chilly cabin with barely any power.
The feeling of Rex’s kiss was electric, and a soothing warmth spread through your entire body. You kissed back, and soon his hands had found their way to your waist as the two of you sat on the couch. Yes, both of you were wearing gloves, but you could still feel the spark that would have electrified your entire body had it been against your bare skin.
But of course, all good things have to come to an end, and this one ended with the sound of your datapad beeping, accompanied with the sound of Jesse’s slightly mechanized voice from the comm function. “We’re outside you two,” he said, and you reluctantly pulled yourself away from Rex’s lips.
“We’ll be out in a minute!” you said, and once you were sure no one could hear you through the device, you spoke again. “I don’t know exactly what this means, but I’d really like it to continue.” Those words could be dangerous, since clones (along with anyone who worked for the GAR) were technically allowed to form romantic relationships on the job.
Rex nodded. “I’d really like it to continue too,” he said, leaning in to place a soft kiss on your cheek.
So much was left unspoken, but you were pretty sure you’d get a chance to figure things out, even if it meant enduring inevitable teasing from Rex’s men once they figured out what was different about your relationship with their captain.
And of course, just being with Rex made all of that worth it.

Tumblr media
“So, just to make sure I understand correctly,” Rex slowly voices his concern as he walks off the Twilight with Skywalker, “Senator Amidala requested extra security for the Senate gathering that Naboo is hosting, and the GAR only sent the two of us”. After working with the general for most of his military career, Rex is wary when it comes to any mission with the jedi. His concern only grows when he knows the general is hiding something from him. Rex scans the royal hanger with his eyes, and his suspicions heighten when he realizes their ship is the only one not from this planet.
“No,” Anakin drags out. “But we are here by special request. That part isn’t a lie”.
Rex rolls his eyes and sighs, “Then why are we here, sir?”
The two men reach the main entrance where the guard lets them into the palace with no questions asked. Rex’s eyebrow raises at the lack of protocol. His heart quickens as they walk through the bright palace halls. Normally, Rex can push aside the insecurity that comes with feeling like an outsider, but the grandeur of the royal halls and the luxurious outfits that its inhabitants wear cause him to sink into himself slightly. Finding comfort in the plastoid armor that his brothers wear alongside him even systems away.
Anakin looks at the captain out of the corner of his eyes for a moment, taking note of his stiff posture. He focuses on his gaze in front of them, but he then bears off to a side corridor. He leads Rex to a hidden staircase and explains, “The 501st has been granted an extended leave after our last success”.
Rex’s eyebrows furrow, “Then why are we on Naboo?” He’s careful to keep his voice calm so as to not betray the growing hope that’s overcoming him. The last rays of early evening bleed into a vibrant sunset over the lake from the open archways that line the outer wall.
“I may, or may not, have lied about the Senator requesting you to be here,” Skywalker sheepishly admits. “That doesn’t mean someone else didn’t request your presence, though”.
Reaching the top of the stairwell, Skywalker steps to the side and opens the door for Rex. His signature smirk appears on his face, and Rex thinks this is finally the moment he’ll strangle the general for everything he's been put through. Fully ready to voice his intent, Rex’s body freezes at the sight of you sitting at a table for two on the palace’s terrace.
Dressed in a summer evening outfit, you look at your partner in amusement as he can’t take his eyes off you. His expression of disbelief makes you lightly chuckle. Warmth blankets around you as the sun kisses your skin causing butterflies to tickle your stomach.
“I’ll leave you two to it. We’ll have a few weeks here, Rex, so try to actually relax on your time off,” Skywalker quietly dismisses himself. Before he completely moves away, he nods at you in gratitude.
You smile lightly at the general, and you focus your gaze on Rex. “Care to join me? It’d be a shame to let this go to waste,” you say and motion to the table full of fruit, cheese, and bread. A jug of water sits on the side of the table with a bottle of wine in a chiller stand.
Rex can’t breathe as he takes in this moment. Memorizing it to hold close for the rest of his life, his heart swells to the point where he swears he's going to break. “How,” Rex tries to find his voice as he walks towards you, “How did you plan this?”
You reach your hands out to him and grasp his gloved hands. Rubbing your thumbs over his knuckles, you explain, “I had some help. Padmé learned about it through her husband, and she sent me a message. Offered to let us have a vacation away from prying eyes”. You look up at him from your seat and flutter your eyelashes. The soft smile on your face growing as Rex looks down at you in adoration. A flush warms your cheeks when he takes one hand to tilt your chin up towards him. His gentle touch ignites sparks across your skin.
“Have I told you how much I love you?” Rex quietly mumbles before placing a kiss to your lips. His hand then cups your jaw to help guide you into a better position to deepen the kiss. His lips move against yours and pride warms his chest when you meet him with equal tenderness. Everything feels as if it comes to a standstill as the two of you reunite and fall into your partner’s embrace.
You rest your free hand on his hip and run your thumb over the new scratches on the worn plastoid. Silently thanking the stars for safely returning Rex to you one more time. Rex pulls away from your lips, and before you can protest, he places a quick peck to your pout. Your heart races from the small act, and you meet his affectionate gaze with a similar look on your face. “I think you’ve voiced the idea one or two times,” you muse, “You did, did however, say we would need all the time in the galaxy to truly express how much you adore me”.
You lightly laugh and let him step away to find his seat across from you, and his laughter soon joins yours. You pour water into both your glasses while you softly inquire. “How would you like to go about your vacation?” When Rex raises an eyebrow as he slips off his gloves, your cheeks flame as your mind begins to wander from the terrace oasis to the luxurious bedroom the two of you will find comfort in soon enough. “We have a gift sitting in front of us. If you want, we could completely ignore the war for a short time. Get lost in our imaginations of what it would be like to spend our lives peacefully hidden away from the galaxy,” you elaborate.
Rex looks at you with a thoughtful expression. His eyes flickering from your ethereal appearance to the beautiful scenery that leads his mind to all the possible afternoon rendez-vous the two of you could find yourselves in before noticing the small quirk of your lips. His chest aches at the care you’ve put into this experience for him, and he leans forward to grasp one of your hands across the table. “That’s a very dangerous idea, cyar’ika,” Rex muses.
“Don’t you flirt with death everyday, love?” you tease and squeeze his hand. “How could a blossoming field of flowers beside a tranquil lake pose more of a threat than a battlefield?”
Rex chuckles and looks up at you from his eyelashes. His amber eyes hold a roguish glint that only grows in intensity at the small shiver that falls over your body. When he responds, he voice drops into a gravelly, hushed tone, “I meant dangerous for you, cy’are. Three weeks tucked away from any distractions where I can finally take my time to love and adore you. Worship you every morning, afternoon, and evening for everyday we live in paradise. You’re offering me too much when it should be me who offers you everything”.
Your breath hitches and the blush rising to your cheeks rivals the sunset’s rich red and orange hues that paint the sky. Heart pounding against its cage, your voice comes out airy: “Whatever you desire, I shall give to you during our time together. As long as you promise that you’ll return to me each time we must part ways”.
Rex feels like he can’t breathe. A wash of guilty pleasure consumes him as you bite down on a strawberry. The glistening juice trails across your lip before your tongue swipes across to collect it. Your lighthearted laugh seemingly brings a brighter glow that Rex didn’t think was possible to the golden beams of sunlight that stream through the hanging flowers. His other hand subtly moves to his utility belt as you turn your head to watch the sun set against the great lake. Rex is thankful that you let him get lost in his thoughts this time, because he wants to do right by you for this change in your relationship.
“I will do everything in my power to come home to you, so we can continue to create memories like these together,” Rex promises. His voice softens into a reverent awe, and as he speaks he unclasps one of his pouches.
“I know,” you softly acknowledge, “I will always count down the days until we reunite, but during those days I will always worry for your well being and safety”. Rex’s hand squeezes yours, and your expression drops. Not daring to look at your lover, you keep your attention to the families and friends who gather by the lake’s shore to begin their summer celebration. Your chest constricts as hugs are shared and shouts of excitement crescendo against the evening’s warm breeze.
Rex ducks his head and sighs. His fingers hesitate when they graze the small box he’s kept safe by his side during his last few deployments. When he steals a glance at you, Rex’s heart all but breaks at the adoration he holds for you. Sitting before him, Rex looks upon his lover who holds him with such care and tender love. Who understands him better than he does. Who goes through every obstacle to stand by his side and support him in a galaxy that causes a fear to fester in the back of his mind. A lover who walks him off the edge when his emotions get the best of him. There’s no one more deserving of his lifetime devotion after everything his cy’are has done for him. Certainly, no one who he could imagine living the rest of his life with.
With a reignited spark of resolve, Rex scoops the small box into his hand and clasps the pouch. “I can’t promise that a worst case scenario will never happen,” Rex quietly begins. When you turn to face him with a worried expression that nearly makes him choke, he takes a deep breath. “However, if there is a way for me to find my way back to you, I will always search for it. There is nothing in this galaxy that could keep me from returning to you. The only exception being death itself”.
Your breathing begins to grow heavy as you listen to Rex’s declaration. A night you hoped would be full of laughter and relaxation now renders you speechless while feeling the weight of his words sink into you. Your heart races as you watch Rex rise to his feet and return to your side once more. “Rex,” you softly question. Only for a quiet gasp to slip past your lips when he drops to one knee now holding your hand with such tenderness as he trails his thumbs across your knuckles.
Rex’s heart pounds against his chest as blood rushes to his ears. An overwhelming mixture of emotions makes him feel dizzy, but he will not let this opportunity pass. “I have never met a person who willingly gives a piece of their heart to whoever may need it. Someone who cares so deeply for their loved ones or people they have only just met, because you believe that everyone deserves to feel cared about. Regardless of if you’ve spent weeks with them or just a few minutes. You offer your heart to anyone and trust them to take care of it just as you would theirs, because you hold hope that the galaxy will rebuild itself into a place where everyone feels at home once more”.
“You’re going to make me cry,” you let out a watery laugh and wipe away the threatening tears, “You better not be doing what I think you’re trying to do. This vacation is supposed to be about you”.
Rex lets out a short laugh of disbelief as he shakes his head. He looks up at you with a beaming smile, “But that’s just it, cy’are. Without you, I am a shell of a man. You have brought so much light and love into my life that I never dared to dream possible. My heart only beats for you, and I want to spend the remaining days of my life by your side”. Rex slides his thumb under the ring box’s lid as his thunderous heartbeat echoes in his ears. “If you will allow me the honor, I would like to care for you with just as much devotion as you have shown me in the time we have already shared together”.
Your eyes soften as Rex opens the ring box to reveal a simple silver band with a small sapphire in the middle. The last rays of light catch on the gemstone to cause it to sparkle in the early evening. “You would be a fool to ever think I wouldn’t say yes,” you weakly laugh and run your thumb under your eyes.
“Then say it,” Rex pleads. His amber eyes shimmer with excitement in the golden sunlight as he waits to hear the words he’s only dreamed of hearing you say.  “Please”.
“Yes,” you softly assure him, “I would love to spend the rest of my life by your side”. There was never a doubt in your mind that this would be the man you married when you first met, but as Rex slips the band onto your ring finger, you have never known a love so strong. When you try to convey your feelings, the words can’t come. Only a small whimper falls from your lips and a short laugh. So instead you cup Rex’s face, and you share a passionate kiss. Your eyes flutter closed as you commit this moment to memory.
A chuckle of acknowledgement falls from Rex before he nips at your bottom lip and deepens the kiss. Tilting his head, Rex holds your wrists and thumbs your racing pulse points. Your hum causes his skin to tingle. Finally, Rex feels as if he’s found his place in the galaxy. When your kiss breaks, the two of you still lean into each other's embrace and rest your foreheads together. For a few minutes, the pair of you don’t move away. Only shifting slightly to ghost your lips over over the other in featherlight kisses. Nudging your chin with his nose to make you open your eyes, Rex gently places a lingering kiss to the corner of your mouth before pulling away to stand up.
Instead of sitting across from you like you thought he was doing, your eyebrows raise when he takes his chair and moves it next to yours. “Couldn’t even go a minute without being apart,” you find your voice to tease.
Rex shoots you a look of amusement while reaching over to pick up the bottle of wine from the chiller. “Because you’re any better,” Rex counters and nods to your hand resting on his belt. Now adorn by a silver band that only makes his smile grow at the sight. Twisting the cork free, Rex pours both of you glasses of bubbly and places the bottle back in the chiller. As he sits by your side, he offers you a glass and rests a hand on your thigh. He tilts his glass towards you with his usual charming expression. “May we share as many days together as riduurs as there are stars in the galaxy,” he proposes.
Lightly clinking your glass to his, you beam at Rex. “And may we always find our ways home to one another after any time apart”.

The costs of war can never be truly accounted for, you spun the disgusting bottom shelf liquid around your glass pondering Master Yoda's saying noting how right it was. Your head swam back to when the order was given, feeling all the death and pain through the force. The betrayal on the deepest level, soldiers we fought beside for years trusted with our lives killing us like discarded bantha fodder. We never saw it coming, we speculated something was coming but we never dreamed that our dearest allies would turn on us. You wondered if anyone had made it and if they too lived like womp rats hiding in darkness.
One must let go of the past to hold on to the future. The saying twisted in your guts like a knife, how does one even move past something like that? How could I even think of the future? Your mind wandered to your closest... friend and confidant then the rage seethed like it normally did when you envision his face knowing it was one of countless who gunned down Jedi. You slammed the drink back. Looking up you saw another hooded stranger walking sitting in the other dark corner. Your mind went blank at this presence, body screaming at you to run... it didn't take long to find out why. Frozen to your seat like the ice of Hoth itself held you down forcing you to watch the scene unfolds. In the commotion your hood most have fallen back, the four men and him stared at you you didn't hear a word that was said before that your ears rang and your mind fell blank. Puzzled looks fell on the four men's faces as he softly said "Commander..." The title use to make your heart flutter everytime he called it out but now it just filled you with terror. Any minute now he was going to shoot, your heart pounded and your feet finally started moving.
Rex fell to unabashedly to his knees for a moment watching you flee from him, she's not dead, the relief flooded him followed by agonizing truth that you were horrified of him, why wouldn't you be? Why didn't you hear that his chip was gone? His hand wiped the revolution that trickled from his eyes. Rex's head was spinning but he pulled himself up one leg at a time. He looked at Echo who was staring at the door before turning to him gripping his shoulder, "We'll find her, Captain."
"Who was that, Rex?" Hunter asked.
"A Jedi," Echo whispered, "a very dear friend of ours."
Hunter waited staring at Rex knowing there was more to the story, "Found her," Tech said interrupting the silence.
"Where is she," Echo said taking the data pad from Tech, "She's on the move-" finally noticing the wetness he wiped from his face.
"Girlfriend, wasn't she?" Tech said filling in the unspoken blanks.
"Soldier's can't have relations with the Jedi-" Rex stated.
"The Republic is gone and to the Empire you are dead," Tech said flatly.
"We have to go, Captain," Echo urged, Rex nodded and the Five of them started running.
What is lost is often found. Ord Mantell had become your darkness, a sliver of peace and privacy in the blossoming chaos of the Empire spreading through out the galaxy. A chance to fade into the shadows as a relic of an era that was over. Now this home had to be abandon just like everything else. Your feet kept running and the hair on back of your neck stood up. You looked back, nearly tripping noticing the four's armor. Commando's, the deadliest troopers, designed differently and raised to endure. They probably have everything mapped out in their hands, it's like shooting a rancor in a cage. Not even with my saber do I stand a chance against four... Although one seems familiar... You looked back noticing the one with a stomp, "Echo... Clone Force 99," you ducked sideways into the nearest building. Crosshair has to be up above some where waiting for his trap to spring.
You cut through the building hopefully buying yourself time to think. Running out of breath you rested for a second against the wall. You mentally listed Hunter's, Tech's and Wrecker's enhancements. Anyone but Wrecker even with his strength I doubt it would be quick... Then again with Crosshairs temperament I doubt he would be either. You hit your head back against the wall before taking off again. Turning your head again you saw Hunter catching up, you stopped for a second using the force to rip a door and shoved it in his direction, but you knew it was to late his hunters sense of smell and hearing... If I could just get to the nightclub... I could use that against him- You're body collided with a solid mass and tumbled back, Echo. You scrambled back to your feet defensively reaching for the lightsaber that was no longer there.
"I'm putting down my blaster," Echo said eyeing you like a rapid animal waiting to lounge, "Commander, you're safe. None of us are going to hurt you nor to turn you in."
"The clones betrayed us," you gritted out slowly backing out of the room.
"Not all of us, Commander," Rex said behind you and his arms come around you. Feeling you thrash against him, "Mesh'la..." he got out pained softly whispering your name, "You're safe," he felt your legs buckle slowly took both of you to the ground holding you against him wrapping his arms around you tighter hearing the sobs start. He gave Echo a weary look as he sat looking at the two of you.
"Commander, I'm glad you made it. Both of you," Echo said taking off his helmet setting it off to the side, "The three of us together again," he added quietly with a small chuckle.
"Say something..." Rex whispered, "anything..."
"Let me go.." as you finished the sentence Rex's arm came off, always the loyal solider following orders. Pathetically you crawled away from both of them curling your knees to your body. You looked at them resting your head on your knee, "Is this some sick trick?" You whispered.
Rex's fingers went to the scar on the side of his head, "It's gone," he paused reaching out his hand, "Ask me again."
Anxiously you took his hand and asked again feeling the truth in the answer and Echo did the same, "The others need to get their chips out but they haven't activated, I promise."
Finally you genuinely looked at Rex, the fine buzzed blonde hair, the poncho hiding his 501st armor and earthy tones eyes staring back at you. You stared at him the red veins in his eyes, you wiped the tears from your own looking up out the windows. There was no imperial ships above waiting because they would have been here by now. Glancing down you found your hand visibly shaking you pulled your arms into your lap handing them. You looked back at Rex as much as you wanted to see him your mind kept slipping backwards seeing the troopers fire at you and the others fleeing. Shutting your eyes you buried your head in your lap.
"So... why are they just sitting there?" Wrecker asked.
"Given the last time she was around regs they tried to terminate her per Order 66," Tech offered, "If she around them when the order was given which I am assuming she was given her behavior."
"Shouldn't we be in there because we're not regs?"
"No, we still have our chips however deviant we are if what Captain Rex says to be true, the three of us are the dangerous ones. I would leave them be."
"Commander..." Rex said softly.
"The war is over, you don't need to call me that," you said lifting your head to your knees. Rex whispered your name softly and you forced yourself to look at him, "What?" you whispered.
"I'm glad you're still here."
You reminded silent for a moment, How do I even answer that? I'm not. "Thank you," you decided to be polite.
"Do you want me to give you two a couple minutes?" Echo asked softly.
No, "Yes," forced its way out through your strained vocals.
Echo looked at Rex hesitantly before prying himself off the hard ground heading outside to meet up with his squad, finding the anxious look on their faces discussing what had compelled Rex to cry given it was next to impossible for a clone. Everyone in the had 501st gossiped about what was going between them but neither of them had every winded any truth to it, Echo aired that curiosity to them which silenced them in understanding.
Rex moved closer to you watching you flinch moving his hands under his poncho watching you tense up as he took it off. He slowly took off his armor laying it to him revealing the plain civvies underneath, "Just me," he whispered watching you relax a bit. He cautiously scoot forward waiting to see if you would move away when you didn't he came a hands width away. He looked at the ponchow with an idea putting it over both of your heads surrounding both of you in completed darkness to keep the reminders of his face at bay but also privacy, "Just us."
"Why did you chase after me?"
"I always protect my Jedi, I'll always protect you."
"Why did you send 99 after me... it was horrifying."
"That wasn't my idea albeit it was a good plan to get around you sensing me if you were distracted," Rex admitted, "It worked in my favor, albeit to well." Weakly Rex let his finger tips touch your knee waiting to see if you'd jerk away but you didn't and he slide his palm on your knee resting it there. He gave it a gentle squeeze, "I'm sorry."
Shakily you put your hand on top of it and squeezed it back. The familiar warmth radiated off him, "Rex," the name rolled from your tongue like a distant pleasant memory, "it's getting hot under here." He laid one hand on top yours and used the other to cast aside the poncho to the ground, "Better" you whispered.
"Do you want me to leave you alone?" it pained him to think about finding you again and losing you again but it comforted him that you had survived. He smiled watching the emotions coast through your face, you'd always been so good at hiding them but now they were as plain to see as the stars in a clear night.
Your mind screamed yes but the familiar warmth in your heart said no. Staring at the scar on his head, you shook your head Rex isn't a threat, Rex isn't a threat, Rex isn't a threat. Your stomach turned but you allowed yourself to reach out to him through the force finding the familiar honesty, courage, loyalty, the secret in his heart that did his best to hide from the outside world was so blatantly on display with his touch. You watch pain on his face slowly relieving.
You felt him slowly weave his fingers through yours, "Is that okay?" he asked.
"I can feel Echo's contentment and laughter from here," you weakly laughed.
"They did speculate about what was going on between us," Rex smiled looking up at Echo laughing in the window giving him a thumbs up hearing him faintly say 'Called it'. Rex groaned still smiling, "Will you allow this humble man to walk you back to the parlor?"
"Yeah... I need a drink... or a dozen," you said prying yourself up with him still holding your hand as he stood up himself temporarily letting go to reaffix his armor and poncho.
"When did you take up drinking?" he asked arching an eyebrow relacing his fingers through yours noting you wouldn't look at him to long but the expression said enough as to why. His thumb traced the reminiscent intimate skin of his love, each swipe solidifying that you were alive and there not just some figment of his imagination holding him to the past, "I've missed you with each breath of life my soul expels."
Your face flames at his words, "When did you become a poet?" you jested.
"To many late nights wondering what happened to you."
Echo rejoined the two of you but everyone else gave you breathing room. Even with his fingers gripping to yours he still brought his other hand across his body holding onto your arm for dear life. You looked up at him almost crying again, even before all of this you never publicly got to walk down the street with him or show any interest in him.
"What is it?" he whispered, "My fabulous hair getting in your eye?" he attempted to crack a joke.
"That was horrible, Captain," Echo chuckled.
You squeezed his hand, "Never got to do this before... walk down the street just as me and you."
"It's a different time," he offered.
"So Comm-" Echo caught the title switching to your name instead, "How long," he said motioning his finger between the two of you."
Rex looked at you a bright scarlet sweeping his face, "Well... somewhere between the whole time and now," he offered.
Echo gave him a flabbergasted look, "What."
"Help?" Rex choked out taking his extra hand off your arm to rub his head awkwardly which got an even more expressive reaction from Echo,
"Tibrin," you offered back smirking at the unspoken about mission.
Echo groaned knowing the answer was going to get him no where. He looked at both of you smiling, "Everything in the galaxy has changed but I'm glad something stayed the same."
"I didn't think it would," Rex said flatly staring at the ground for a couple minutes before looking back up.
You stopped as much as the anxiety about the clones put you on edge, that comment stung worse, "Commander?" he asked staring at you. Even Echo had stopped.
"To love, is to trust. To trust is to believe. Do you believe I would so easily changeable?"
"We change everyday to adapt to this new world. Who we are now is not who we were when we met."
You dropped his hand continued walking, "Cyare," he groaned wrapping his arms around you pulling you to him, "You didn't let me finish. We as people change but in no galaxy, nor time apart nor in death will my heart ever beat for anyone else. Looks at me Mesh'la," Rex swallowed although his mouth and throat were parched, "Let me kiss you to prove it."
You looked up at him, Rex had never been one for public affection even so much as holding his hands behind his back and side stepping if he was even within a foot of you even in moments of privacy outside of a confined bedroom. He peeled his gloves off sticking them in his pocket, "It's only ever been you," he said lightly touching your face with one hand waiting before bringing the other to your face caressing you pull you close to him lowering himself to you waiting and when you didn't move he took your bottom lip between his.
It was like thrusters coming online, an inferno blazing between the both of you. Every feeling of love, pain, lost and aching of the soul. Somewhere in the distant you heard Echo laughing and calling the two of you cute. Your fingers shakily found the side of his feeling the familiar cut of his cheeks and strength of his jaw. Then up to the scar flinching you pulled away. There was a temporary look of disappointment on his face followed by understanding. He grilled your fingers tighter, “I’ll spend the rest of life protecting you from the unseen scars with my love.” Rex pulled you closed, “I love you.”
Maybe a part two?

TEMPTATION OF THE UNATTAINABLE | CAPTAIN REX
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GIF by kamino-coruscant
Synopsis: You found yourself in the training room on one of your rare days off, not with your lightsaber or the Force but with a blaster. The unfamiliar black, sleek metal was heavy in your hands as if death itself weighed on the trigger. You didn't practice with such a weapon; too barbaric for your tastes, but after a comment Fives made, you wanted to prove him wrong. Blame it on your pride, but you were determined to land a hit on the droids, only, Rex finds you before you can do so.
Warnings: female reader, innuendos, flirting, teasing, fluff. W/C: 1838
Notes: i've had this in my drafts for two months now, i finally finished it and edited it (repost)

"You know, I'm surprised the great general can't shoot a blaster." You lower the training blaster, looking over your shoulder at Rex entering the training room, his bucket tucked snugly under his arm, still in full armor.
"Can it, Rex," you snap, and he only chuckles in reply. You turn away from him, adjusting your stance as you raise the blaster in steady hands. Anticipating recoil this time, you shoot. It nearly misses the center of the training droid's head, and you sigh.
"You look like you're struggling over there," he comments half-heartedly, leaning against the durasteel wall. You spin on your heels, narrowing your eyes at the infamous captain.
"Rex," you snarl in a warning he does not head but instead strokes your fury with bated breath.
"What? Need some help?" he taunts, and you have half a mind to give him a little push with the Force if it means silencing his snarky attitude that he seems to have only with you. Admittedly, you admire him to a point beyond the relationship of captain and general, but that attitude...you could do without it.
"You know the answer to that." There's that edge in your words, the threat behind them that Rex can't help but stroke. He doesn't know why your bite to every teasing remark riles him as much as it does, but it's addictive the way you push back, makes him feel alive, and he can't get enough of it.
"I want to hear you say it."
"Sadistic piece of shit," you growl, glaring at him.
"Now, that's no way to talk to your captain, especially since you are in such dire need of assistance." Dealing with Anakin's ego is better than this, you think sourly.
"You're an asshole."
"So I've been told."
You huff, rolling your eyes as you stare at his satisfied features. You muster up all the scraps of pride you have left, salvaging what you can before you give in. "Please help me, captain."
His eyes sparkle with pride at his accomplishment. "See, that wasn't so hard now, was it?"
"I hate you," you mutter defeatedly as he approaches you. You feel him behind you so close you can feel his force signature radiating off him like an aura of warmth as he takes his place at your back.
"No, you don't."
Kriff, has his voice always sounded so attractive? It was so smooth and oh-so delightful, you're sure you could never get enough of it.
"May I, general?"
"Just call me by my name, captain, since we're past professionalism at this point," you reply sarcastically, and Rex fights off the temptation to grin, opting for a more teasing tone.
"You as well."
He steps forward, so his armored chest is pressed flush to your back, and the chill from the plastoid seeps into your Jedi robes. You can feel every divot and curve grating against your attire and pushing into your spine, sending an aching pressure through your body.
His gloved hand slides over your waist, and you freeze at the contact, your body stiffening in his firm grasp.
"This okay?" he asks, his tone mixed with mischief? Lust? You couldn't tell. His mouth is close enough to your ear that you can feel his warm breath fanning over the shell of it.
Your mouth dries at his words, and you lick your lips, trying to swallow the lump in your throat. "Y-yeah."
Rex takes your breathless voice as a sign to continue, silently relishing his ability to make you stutter because Maker knows how long he's waited for an opportunity or excuse like this to touch you. To render that pretty mouth of yours speechless, even if it's to help with your poor aim.
His foot slides your feet to the side so they are parallel with your shoulders, and your mind wanders to where else he might spread your legs– Focus, you internally reprimand yourself for letting your thoughts descend into something so vulgar and indecent. You're a Jedi, for fucks sake, and even though you've long since abandoned the rule on attachment, it was entirely unprofessional for you to think of your captain this way.
"Knees bent mesh'la," Rex instructs, his breath ghosting over the column of your neck before he pauses, his body growing taut. There are a couple of beats of silence where Rex can feel his heart hammering out of his chest. You don't react, at least not visibly, to the nickname, and he internally grumbles at his slip-up. He doesn't focus on it too much, considering you don't seem to understand the meaning of the word, but he chastises himself for his lack of restraint for letting something as crucial as that slip from his typically tight lips.
You chose not to say anything about his sudden discomfort despite your curiosity but instead concentrate on his nickname. Mesh'la. It ran off his tongue like honey, sweet with a hint of something more. It obviously was Mando'a; as far as you knew, every clone spoke a bit of it. However, you never imagined it would be spoken to you, especially by the man you so readily esteem, so what did it mean?
"Oh, right, sorry," you trip over your words as you bend your knees to his will. You feel Rex's arm leave your waist as he shadows you, enveloping his body impossibly closer to yours. His gloved hand runs over your skin, working out the rifle's position to the target droids. He's focused. You can tell that much by how his hands remain steady and focused like he is in his nature.
It's the familiarity of the weapon, the ease of it, that helps distract Rex from how close he is to you. Every movement he's made in the last five minutes has been driven by the singular purpose of being closer to you, and there was no way in karking hell that Rex would fumble and let this prime opportunity slip away from him. No way in hell.
"Right there, grip it a little tighter, atta girl." You swallow the growing lump in your throat as a shiver runs down the length of your spine at the utter husk in his voice. It's a low, seductive rumble, so chilling yet inviting, as his lips hover a hair's breadth away from your neck, where your pulse is frantically thundering under your skin. You try, you really do, to push out the thoughts of his soft lips caressing your skin in a gentle kiss, peppering your flesh with his devotion. Instead, you feel your face seethe with heat that engulfs your cheeks and rises all the way to the tips of your ears. Shyness is now muddled with arousal, rendering you unable to form a single strand of thoughts to combat your mounting embarrassment. You can almost feel the stupid smug smirk on his lips as his hands tighten their hold on your waist.
"What? Cat got your tongue?" Bastard. Stupid bastard knows what he's doing to you, yet his advances won't push past the edge of flirtation. No matter how much his mocking remarks and smug rejoinders irk you, you want him– need him- to take a leap off the edge. It's something you yearn for down to your very being for him to cross that path of no return. Relinquishing your friendship would either be the end of it or the start of something new. The risk was high, it always was, but one of you had to make a choice, walk away or pursue the tension rising like a raging storm through your love-struck heart.
You are desperate from the hope he provides you that all of his teasing amounts to something, that he is not playing with your emotions in a game of his ego. It's not in Rex's nature to be so misleading, which inclines you to believe he does share that same sentiment as you, but what do you know when it comes to romance? Your entire life has been spent in a temple with people who would rather die than form an attachment forbidden by the code. You know nothing about your feelings besides how to hide them.
"Shut it, Rex," you grumble, and he chuckles, the sound gravelly and enticing to your lust-plagued mind. His hand scours over your hips, his deft fingers running over the area in a teasing motion. Yet, for all the concentration you render as a Jedi, it proves fruitless. Rex notices your slight tremble and eases you with a gentle whisper, "don't be so nervous."
How are you not supposed to be nervous when he's flirting with repreive?
"Now, see your target?" You force yourself to nod, not trusting your lips to form intelligible words. He moves slightly to your side, removing his right hand from yours. It appears that he forgoes his teasing for instruction, now focused on what he was initially set out to do, but the way he grasps your hips, pulling them back ever so slightly into his cod-piece, you are inclined to believe otherwise.
"Finger on the trigger," he orders, and your body obeys before you have time to think, waiting for your captain's following directive. "There 'ya go. Whenever you're ready."
There's a second of hesitation while you gather your thoughts before you pull the trigger. Rex is luckily behind you and holds you steady at the minuscule jerk the gun gives off. The blast bolt pierces the target, black scarring around the marred hole made on the bullseye. You look back at Rex to find him already staring at you with a brazen simper, his arms crossed over his chest.
"You did good, sweetheart, for a Jedi." You huff and shake your head, taking a last look at your shot before back at him. His arrogance begins to fade into something genuine, and it's impossible to tear your eyes away from his; to let go of the shift in the Force between you two.
Neither of you cared to address the atmosphere you had created in that short instance, and for right now, you don't wish to sour the mood with the taste of reality. Yet, nothing felt as perfect as staring into those bright amber eyes, reflecting a future you could only crave.

The set-up
The first time he goes to ask you if you'd like to grab some caf together, or go check out that little corner store not too far from the base by speederbike that one of your coworkers mentioned to you in passing, Rex puts in the effort to clean up his armor a bit. Now he doesn't go so far as to polish and repaint all the parts, but he doesn't want to look fresh off a battlefield either where he's caked in mud and dirt and ash. He wants to show you he cares by looking nice when he goes to lay out his offer. You're past the probationary period following your transfer, and he thinks it'd be nice to sort of celebrate that.
You're in your jumpsuit, cheerfully strutting around the hangar to complete the necessary work a little earlier than usual this morning when he first sees you. "Good morning, Captain Rex!" You're all bright-eyed and sunny smiles for so early in the day. Must be in a really good mood now that you feel the weight that comes with being fresh blood in the "office" has been lifted from your shoulders. Can breathe a little easier when there are less eyes scrutinizing your every move. "You're in a good mood today." Rex replies, careful to keep the right balance of being personable and professional within earshot of other civilian staff, as always, "Is there a special reason?" Your grin and your body language tells him everything he needs to know.
"Oh, no reason. Reasons, on the other hand…" you suggest, biting your lower lip to keep yourself from giggling within earshot of those same workers that you've seen him eyeing out of caution. You can afford to be a little braver now, but you should still be cautious. Rex smiles, delighted to hear and see that you're not feeling quite so anxious as you once were. You still have your nervous, self-soothing quirks like fiddling with the wrist-strap of your time device whenever you wear one, or twirling a stylus between your nimble fingers or rocking softly on the balls of your feet. Rex doesn't see you utilize them quite as often these days now that you're off probation, and it makes him feel so much better to see you more relaxed and comfortable here.
He still asks his brothers to keep an eye on you or give you any help in his stead if he senses you becoming overly anxious about anything. Dogma still offers to take any paperwork down to General Skywalker for you (and is certain to remember to knock, now). Fives and Echo still hang out around your desk and your workspace whenever they get the chance. Tup drops by with small snacks or drinks from the mess if you can't spare a moment to get away from your work (and he'll never say no to an offer to help fix up his hair, either). Kix has been by a few times to come sit with you when the anxiety gets really bad, coaching you through your grounding exercises, or acting as a GAR medic (who has authority to treat civilian staff in non-emergency situations) he can administer something to take the edge off. And Jesse has made plausible excuses for you to your boss's face if you've needed to step away and collect yourself, if it's really severe.
They all figure if the captain likes you, and on occasion asks them to check in with you for his "peace of mind" ("Captain Rex has a cruuuuush~" "Hardcase stop before you get yourself in troub-" "It's not just the Captain, Fives. She does too.") they shouldn't be afraid to cement their friendships with you anymore.
“Oh, by the way, Captain,” you call over your shoulder as you walk off to where you’d been summoned, “your armor looks very nice today.” Unfortunately, you were called away to take care of something just as he plucks up his nerve to ask if you’d like to grab a cup of caf with him before the day really gears up, but he doesn’t have to wait much longer for another opportunity.
The first "date"
It comes as a rather impromptu and unofficial thing, with one of the mechanics shouting across the hangar as he wraps up his welding kit that the repairs have been finished on a LAAT that had taken a heavy beating. "Captain! Gunship's good to go!" These guys are good. You get to the gunship before Rex does, admiring the handiwork of the repairmen in awe. "Wow… almost looks brand new, doesn't it?" He agrees with a chuckle, elbow to elbow with you. "What's it like to fly in one of these?" you ask, turning to him with earnest curiosity. It surprises him. "Weren't you transferred to the base in one of these?"
You shake your head, the datapad cradled a little tighter against your chest. "No, I got here by passenger shuttle."
Stay here, he tells you, he has an idea. He just needs to go find where Hawk is.
Hawk takes little time to get kitted-up in order to go take the LAAT for a test flight. Rex boards the gunship first, taking hold of one of the handles overhead before offering a hand out to you to help you up.
You regard the offered hand with mild apprehension, unclear if this is even allowed. "A-are you certain I can be up there? I'm just a civilian. I don't know that I can-" A simple smile is all he needs to calm you, quell your fraying nerves. “I’ll think of some clever excuse if anyone asks.” Rex promises you with one of his charming smiles and playful lift of his brow. He allows you to stand beside him so you feel more secure, showing you where best to grip the support handles as Hawk gears everything up. “Best hold on,” he warns you before you’d feel that lurch in your stomach as the ground falls away fast.
He tells Hawk to take it pretty easy, just a few test laps around the base and not too fast, and Rex keeps his eye on you as Hawk climbs the gunship high enough for his liking. Any sign from you that this was getting to be too much, and he would call it off. But you’re all giddy smiles and awed murmurings as you bravely peek at the ground far below from time to time.
“Beginning aerial test laps, Captain. I promise to go easy, ma’am!” Hawk calls back to the pair of you, beginning to maneuver and swing the gunship out to the right, making you bump hips with the Captain, unprepared to brace for the movement with your legs in addition to your upper body. You go to apologize, but he puts his hand on your opposite hip without a word (at first) to hold you a little closer to him to help you feel secure and steady. Rex apologizes to you for not warning you about the nature of the  turns. “Flown in these things more times than I can count; it’s all just second nature to me.” You suppose that makes a lot of sense, surely a little flushed in the face, being so close. On the next turn, you know to anticipate it this time, but you still lean pretty heavily against him.
What happens next however is absolutely not your fault. Hawk purposefully takes a much sharper turn as he completes one of his last laps, and with the centrifugal force you’re really pushed up against Captain Rex, practically chest to chest with him now, and then laughs apologetically from the cockpit. “Whoops, sorry sweetheart! Got a little carried away on that one. You alright?” You’re fine, you answer just loud enough for Hawk to hear, finding yourself still so close against Rex, his hand still on your hip to hold you steady. You and Rex look at each other for one long moment, almost missing what Hawk says about taking you in for a landing, feeling a little lost in the other’s eye…
Once you’re back on the ground, you thank Hawk for letting you come along on the test flight for the repaired LAAT. “Oh, you’re welcome! I hope it was nice despite that one turn. Just got a little ahead of myself and forgot you’re not used to those kinds of ships.” You promise it’s okay, and thank him again. You should probably get back to work now, you explain, a little color in your cheeks after smiling at Rex and bidding him goodbye next.
He makes no mention of the transfer-smear of lip product found on his Captain’s face, one that looks an awful lot like the color you’re wearing this morning, until he’s certain you’re out of earshot. “That’s a nice color on you, Captain.” Rex takes a moment to clean his cheek of the evidence, a gentle pout playing across his features, his broad nose creasing as he responds to Hawk’s compliment. “You swung too wide on that last turn before we landed…”
As partners
It’s not long after that that things kick off. Secretly. There’s no official code or regulation against this (you’d know: Echo and Dogma checked for one extensively, separately and together) relationship taking place, but you’re going to keep it on the down-low for the most part. Rex has a professional image to maintain as a captain of the GAR, and you risk being transferred out should any of your higher-ups feel this partnership of sorts comes as a hindrance or serious detriment to your job as a civilian. (“Do you know how many want to be in your shoes? Do you have any idea just how sought-after this position is?” “A-A very good idea, actually. That’s why I’m here, sir. I promise, I’m not going to make any trouble.” (Oh how Fives and Jesse had wanted to give the civilian staff member you reported to a piece of their minds for talking to you like that.)) You and Rex find a way to make it work, with a little help from his brothers.
He visits you during work. Often as he can. Sometimes it's planned out in advance, where the two of you have lots of time alone. He makes sure that you're doing okay, and that you're taking care of yourself, of course, but primarily these opportunities to see you are just to spend time with you. Take his mind off of the war. Take your mind off of your job, or whatever troubles you. Sometimes it's discreet, spur of the moment little meetings in empty offices… or secluded corners his brothers have told him about.
"There's a blind spot in the cameras around here," Hardcase explains, unprompted, one afternoon over nutrimush in the mess hall, "You can get away with a lot of stuff right there behind the shelving." He's not sure if he's about to reprimand Hardcase as his Captain or to thank him as a brother for this insight for a long moment. "What do you mean by get away with a lot of stuff, 'Case?" There's quite a few options it turns out. Stash some contraband, (re)paint your armor without being bothered too much, or just… y'know. Have a nap? (Damn, okay, aside from whatever Hardcase means by contraband that sounds like a pretty great spot.) "Maybe I'll… check it out." Rex agrees with a simple shrug.
Oh and if he does, he has to be careful about a certain box on the shelves. Can't put empty snack wrappers back in it otherwise it'll attract ants again, Hardcase says he learned that one the hard way and it took a while to get it back under control just short of throwing away his whole collection of snacks. Two of them are welcome to just about anything they find in the box if Rex takes you there, but the energy drinks are off limits.
"Or just leave Hardcase five credits if you do take one." Echo calls from a little further down the table, pouring over some section of the regulation manual related to your job that you were having trouble understanding. (They used a lot of unnecessary and complicated words because it was translated into Basic from another galactic language.) "Fives and I do it all the time." A few more brothers confirm that they do the same since being let in on Hardcase's little secret. Dogma insists he does not. "I don't like these crazy energy drinks they come up with. 'Trotting Tauntaun' and 'Hyperspace Rush'? Makes me feel sick to my stomach and my heart race…" (It's probably all the caffeine, Kix calls back to him from Rex's left. Dogma might have a low tolerance for it and that's why he doesn't like it.)
This little nook within the hangar becomes the perfect place to decompress whenever Captain Rex notices you are looking more anxious than typical. One of his men has stashed away an old GAR-issue blanket that's stained with various smears of cobalt blue - 501st's Blue - but still plenty warm and comfortable to wrap up in. You can tell that it's Fives who added a little stack of flimsi scraps to write notes on the first time you come back here to this corner of the hangar with the Captain. Rex can see from a mile away that Kix is to thank for the healthier options within the box of Hardcase's snacks.
You're both not sure who scribbled your name along with his under the list of people who were "invited" here, but it makes you cry, in a happy way. To welcome their brother here would be one thing - all Clones had come up with secret, secluded spaces for themselves to have their privacy and establish stealthy boundaries for themselves and their well-being - but they were inviting you too. None of your other colleagues know about this sequestered space. They trusted you to keep their secrets. They liked you. Really liked you.
"To our Captain and his girl" the note begins, waiting for you both on top of the neatly folded blanket when Rex first helped you here, trying to help you settle your nerves after you were badly frightened by a speederbike backfiring outside the base as it whizzed past, "Welcome to our cozy little corner! We hope you like it here and trust that you'll keep it a better secret than General Skywalker and Senator Amidala being a "thing". Speaking of, figured it was time to let the loth-cat out of the bag now that you're both getting as serious as this war allows~. - The 501st"

Don't have a fic taglist for the time being, but I'll likely start one soon if I can figure out how to make those fancy forms some people have since I write a variety of stuff. For now, though, if you'd like to join a taglist for specific types of fics (for example just TBB-centric or just TCW-centric (or both)) don't hesitate to ask. 🩷

The air crackled with an undeniable longing as Captain Rex and you, a skilled engineer for the GAR, exchanged stolen glances in the bustling landing bay. With the desire to be close to each other consumed you both, every interaction was infused with a palpable tension.
In a carefully choreographed maneuver, one that Rex had performed many times to get your attention, he subtly gestured towards his private barracks. Responding to the unspoken invitation, you cast aside your oil-stained gloves, completing your work on one of the 501st's ships before nonchalantly following him, careful to maintain a discreet distance.
Rex entered first, glancing back to ensure that nobody was lurking. Satisfied, he motioned for you to join him. And as the door hissed shut, you were enveloped in the intimate embrace of darkness with his lips urgently seeking yours. It was desperate. Needy.
Rex, still basking in the passion of your kisses, had yet to turn on the lights. His hand found solace in your hair, the usually tight bun unraveled, while his other arm encircled your waist, holding you close. With a delighted purr, you teased him, reveling in the euphoria of this forbidden connection. Pressed against the door you had just entered through, your breaths mingled heavily.
"Eager to see me, Rex?" You whispered, voice dripping with delight, the sound of your laughter dancing between both of your lips.
“Always,” he smirked, his heart and shoulders lifting under the weight of the ongoing war, finding respite in your embrace.
It had been a few months since this love blossomed. Though, the harsh realities of war and the lives they lead had compelled you both to keep it hidden, buried beneath layers of secrecy. With Rex being a revered captain of the 501st, and you, a rather accomplished engineer, were bound by duty. To abide by the strict code of conduct that forbade love. Yet, how could either of you resist the undeniable magnetism between you? In your minds, you were perfectly matched.
“How long do you think we can keep doing this?” You sighed, your head finding solace in the curve of his neck while tender kisses caressed his exposed skin.
Though his face remained hidden, you could sense the deep furrow of concern etching across it. The mere thought of getting caught struck fear into Rex's heart, threatening the fragile web the two of you had woven. Somewhat, unregrettable.
“However longer this war lasts,” he exhaled heavily, acknowledging the harsh reality that awaited you both. He knew you deserve nothing less than the truth.
Closing your eyes, you accepted the somber truth. Yet, instead of dwelling on the impending dangers of war, you chose to immerse yourself in the present. Your lips embarked on a journey, traversing from his neck to his strong jawline, his sighs stirring a flutter in your heart and a softening of your mind.
“Do I ever tell you how pretty you are, lovely?” he murmured, his gloved thumbs tracing delicate patterns over your face.
Arching an eyebrow, you smirked playfully. "You can't even see me right now."
“I don’t have to, pretty girl.” You can feel his warm breath fanning across your face, he’s leaning in until…
“Are you two quite done?”
With a startled shriek, you abruptly pull away from Rex, his body instinctively adopting a defensive stance in front of you, blaster raised in response to the voice emerging from the shadows.
“Show yourself.” Captain Rex ordered and with a flick of a button, the lights stuttered on where the two of you are face to face with Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker.
His blaster instantly lowered and the two of you stood to attention, both extremely flustered and very, very nervous.
“General, I can explain.” Rex stutters, ashamed that he got caught by his General but supposedly, better him than any other Jedi.
Anakin crossed his arms, a hint of a smirk playing at his lips. "Go on then, Rex."
Rex froze, as though an avalanche of snow had cascaded over him, rendering him speechless and unable to articulate his thoughts amidst the whirlwind of different emotions.
You hastily adjusted your disheveled hair and smoothed out your slightly ruffled clothes, summoning your courage as you met the piercing gaze of the Jedi. “General, I am very sorry about what you may have heard-.”
“Seen.” He cuts you off, correcting you.
“Sorry?” you blinked, mortification washing over you like an unrelenting tide at the realisation of being caught in the act.
“I saw you more than I did hear you. I was hoping you would have seen me too,” he is smirking now, walking over to you both as you fumble nervously with your fingers.
“W-why were you here? In the dark?” Rex asks the question what was on both of your minds as you both watch Anakin sit on the edge of Rex’s bunk, looking up at you both like two naughty school children. But then again, this was a lot more serious.
Anakin does chuckle at the question, realising that it may have seemed quite peculiar why he was lurking about in the dark. “I had my suspicions about the two of you for a while… and low and behold, I was completely right.”
“I can’t believe you never told me Rex,” If you didn’t know any better, you’d think that Anakin was sulking about the revelation.
Rex gives you a look, one you can’t quite place before looking back to his General with a deep sigh. “How long have you known?”
Anakin smiles this time, genuinely. “How long has it been since the two of you first said ‘hello’?”
You blush profoundly, suddenly finding it hard to make eye contact with the young Jedi, taking keen interest in looking at your boots instead. If it had been that obvious to Anakin, Maker only knows who else knew.
“Are you going to tell anyone? Or… reprimand me, Sir?” Rex asks as he shifts in his spot, body remaining very tense.
But, Anakin shakes his head. “I think you’re forgetting that you are keeping one of my biggest secrets.”
This time you look up and look at Rex, almost for an explanation and then at Anakin who was looking between the two of you. “You haven’t told her?”
Your head was screaming to ask ‘told me what?’ but you knew best to keep quiet when it came to your superiors however nice Jedi Skywalker was.
“No,” Rex rubs his buzzed hair and casts you a look, “I haven’t.”
Anakin tapped his leg up and down, as in deep thought before a deep exhale blows past his lips. He stands and approaches you, giving you a skeptical glance as he says your name which alone was surprising enough. “Can I trust you?”
You stand tall, meeting his gaze and nod quickly. “Of course General, but may I ask what for?”
Anakin looks to Rex who gives a confident nod but he looks at you. “I would be a hypocrite and a bad friend,” he looks to Rex, “if I were to reprimand both of you to the Jedi Council and Senate.” Anakin speaks, voice kind and gentle. “Rex here knows that I am… that I am in fact married to a Senator.”
Your eyes widen and you have to suppress the surprised laughter that threatened to part your lips. “Married?” You ask, bewildered.
Rex and Anakin chuckle at your reaction, tensions quickly fading as it was clear that you were both caught by the right Jedi. “Senator Amidala to be precise.” Rex explains to you which makes your eyes go even wider. But then again, whenever you had seen the Jedi and Senator together… it all adds up.
“No karking way.” You finally let loose, mouth agape but you were smiling as wide as a Loth Cat. “T-that’s amazing! But Sir, what about the Jedi code?”
Anakin rolls his eyes playfulfully and shakes his head. “No code would ever stop me from falling for her. This is top secret and obviously, only Rex knows.”
“You can trust me, General. As long as you don’t rat me and your Captain out.” You tease with a pointing finger which is quite unusual to do to a Jedi but seeing that everything was out in the open, why not mess around with him?
Anakin smiles and passes by the both of you, heading to the door to leave. “You have my word if I have yours.”
Rex places an arm around your waist, something he could never do in front of another before and pulls you into his side. “Of course.” You both say in unison.
As Anakin leaves, Rex was more than eager to bring you closer in for a kiss but as he’s about to, Anakin just had to poke his head in again before leaving with a parting comment: “Oh and Rex? Your quarters are looking messy. I’ll be doing a spot check at 0900 hours. Just so you both know.”

Find me and don’t let go (Rex x Fem!Reader)
I was listening to Smart Iowa by Trousdale, and it made me think of this. I’m probably going to make a part 2
Warnings: angst, reunions, mentions of order 66, mentioned depression, happy ending, fluff, injury
Tumblr media
It’s been 693 standard rotations since you fled Coruscant. You’d left everything behind when the troopers turned their guns on you. You were only a weapons officer, but standing up for your Jedi commander had labeled you a traitor.
Somehow, you ended up on Kintoni, a farming planet with rows of corn that went on as far as you could see. You’d gotten a cabin with a garden and adopted a little orphaned Tooka. This is where you stayed. You almost wished that your husband could see the life you’d built. It had been something you had talked about for “after the war”.
But the last time you’d seen him had been not long before order 66. He kissed you goodbye and left with Ahsoka.
You tried to contact him, but all you knew was that their Venator had crashed into a moon. You were devastated because the only thing that had kept you going through the war was Rex.
Footsteps sound from the porch, pulling you from your thoughts—followed by a groan and a frail knock.
Your Tooka growls, though it’s hardly threatening. You grab your blaster defensively, peering through the window. A cloaked figure is leaned against the doorframe, but 501st blue vambraces catch your eye.
It can’t be.
You throw the door open and…
There he is.
He’s bleeding, and his eyes are screwed shut in pain, but he’s alive. The blonde fuzz peeking out from beneath the hood tells you so.
“Rex?!?” You cry, reaching a shaking hand out to steady him.
He sways when his head snaps up. Upon seeing you, he falls to his knees and cries. You follow, hitting the ground and wrapping him up in your arms. You both cry.
“Mesh’la?” He chokes out. You nod into his shoulder, tears still flowing.
“You found me, Rex. I’m here.”
“Maker. Oh, Maker,” he cries “I thought you’d been killed and—“
You scoff, cutting him off. “I thought you were dead, love.”
He holds you tighter and cries into your chest.
“I’m right here, cyare.”
“I missed you.” You cried. “I almost couldn’t go on.”
Rex feels his heart shatter into a million pieces.
“Am I…” he hesitates. “Am I still your husband?”
The question makes you sob harder, but you pull away to cup his face.
“You’re the only man I have ever loved. Of course you’re still my husband.”
That’s the only confirmation he needs, catching your lips with his in a kiss you’ve waited nearly two years for. It’s followed by many desperate little kisses before you pull away, making up for lost time. He presses his forehead to yours, tears still slipping down both of your cheeks.
“Rex.” You cry. “I love you so much.”
He nods, wincing. “I love you more, Mesh’la.” He sucks in a breath and whimpers a little bit and you remember his injuries.
You pull away instantly, horrified that you could have forgot.
“Right, kriff. Here—“ he’s quite a bit larger than you, but you help him into the cabin and onto the chair that sits in the middle. You run to the ‘fresher and grab your med pack, returning to his side in record time.
He chuckles, noticing how flustered you are. You dab at the bruises and scratches on his face with the bacta gel, heart full of joy because he’s here. You don’t care how he got hurt or how he found you, because he came home to you. You couldn’t ask for anything more. He takes your hand to kiss your knuckles, and that’s when you know that everything is gonna be okay.

Sweet Torture | Rex x f!Reader
Pinned post | Masterlist | The Bad Batch | Clone Squads | Delta Squad
Tumblr media
Summary: Rex regrets all of his life choices as you make him swallow his pride in the best – worst – way.
18+ themes below the cut. Be responsible about the content you consume, if you're not of adult age in your country, do the both of us a favor and go away.
Tumblr media
Ficlet | Mature | Word Count: 856 Contents: Cockwarming, Rex gradually losing his battle against lust
Mando'a terms Di'kut: Idiot | Ner kar'ta: my heart
Tumblr media
Datapad in one hand, Rex watches you scroll through yet another article that caught your attention in the last twenty minutes you’ve both been sitting together in the spacious hotel’s bathtub. He sighs. Not for the first time — and hardly the last — his head rolls back, seeking some comfort in the decorative tiling of the bathtub’s edge; hoping the cold material will fight, even if minimally, the heat sweltering underneath his skin.
Looking for any distraction from the sweet torture of your nude form pressed to his front, Rex risks a peek at the device in your hands, wondering what had your attention this time.
Biting on the inside of his cheek is all he can do to keep in the moan clawing its way up his chest, when his eyes glance at the word lingerie and the picture of a lacy set in the perfect blue and white of his armor. And if there was a time Rex ever hated the tactical focus engineered into him by the long-necks, it was now.
Closing his eyes would only make his mind work overtime to turn whatever glimpses it caught and feed him all the scenarios he had no need of thinking of at the moment. At least, not if he didn’t want to embarrass himself like a shiny making out for the first time.
With another sigh, Rex can’t help but look back at his younger, unwise three hours younger self with petty contempt.
Had he not been a cocky di’kut, bragging with all the overconfidence of a cadet fresh out of their first successful training session about his “unbreakable focus”, maybe he would be in a better situation now.
Instead, he sits in the bathtub with your back flush with his chest, the soft warmth of your inner thighs bracketing his, your head resting back on his shoulder, giving him an unimpeded view of your chest. Of the way the lips of your cunt — your slick, warm, maddeningly pulsing cunt — stretches to accommodate around his cock. All things that would spell paradise, if not for the fact you are not moving a single kriffing inch on top of him, content to feel him throb inside of you, unaffected by the need tearing him from the inside out.
“Something wrong, ner kar’ta?” your voice, sweet like wild honey, breaks him from his thoughts. It takes Rex longer than acceptable for to pry his eyes open; longer yet to focus past the haze woven by the throbbing tempo drumming low in between his legs to find your gaze pinned on him.
He is mildly aware his voice rumbles in his chest, and assumes he must have mumbled you an answer. One that doesn’t reach — ever gets processed by his own ears — not with the way he’s busy drowning in your eyes. The hazy glint on them, the heaviness of your eyelids, the minute way your eyebrows tilt up when his hips curl up without his - and more importantly, your permission.
It’s enough to break whatever spell was weaving between the two of you.
Rex cursed himself as your gaze sharpened almost as much as the smirk growing on your lips as you looked pointedly at his hand. His own datapad — the one where he should fill reports in — groaned pitifully on his grasp, the edge near his thumb now sporting a small, concerning rainbow line.
And if he wasn’t so focused on not making a mess of himself, Rex might have bothered with forcing down the heat prickling from the tip of his ears to the last inch of his chest.
Gathering enough of his voice for a proper answer took every last thread of self-control ingrained from years of training, but at last, a wheezed “I’m fine, beloved.” made its way out of his lips.
“Then settle, love. I’m trying to read”, you chided in a satisfied purr that fell like the sweetest of caresses on his ears; a caress his hyper-aware senses feast in like a ravenous nexu.
Your back presses firmer against his overheated skin, and Rex squeezes his eyes until stars spark behind them, holding on the datapad and long-forgotten fruit in his hands like they were the only things threading him to sanity.
Breathe in, hold. Breathe out, repeat; C’mon Rex, you can do it. It’s just like in the old resistance training—
But then you decide to make yourself even cozier, hips shifting on his too-sensitive cock, your oh-so-warm, silky walls squeeze and rub him in all the right ways. His datapad meets the floor with a concerning crack, and the now ruined peach slice oozes sticky between his fingers.
You preen at your obvious victory, and Rex whines on the crook of your neck as the vibrations of your chuckling extend way past his chest.
And when you are finally moving, and Rex is sure he’s about to pass out. The ever winding coil in his core tightens to the point he can barely breathe. Fett preserve him. He felt he was about to die with every roll of your hips…
But karking hells, what a wonderful way to go.

A knock on your office brought your attention back to the world around you, and you called for whoever it was to come in. Feeling your lips curl into a smile as Captain Rex stepped through the doorway, you put down your datapad. “What can I do for you on this fine-” a quick turn of your head put the chronometer on your wall in plain view “-evening, Captain?”
“You can go to sleep, that’s what you can do,” he said, and you could see a slightly disappointed look on his face. “How long have you been holed up in here?”
You chose not to answer his question right away, pretending to think when in reality you knew by the amount of ration bar packages on your desk and floor that you’d been sitting in the same spot for over 20 hours. “I don’t know, a while?”
“And that is exactly why you need to get some sleep,” Rex said. “This cannot be good for you.”
“If it isn’t good for me, I guarantee it’s not good for you either then.” Yeah, you had a bad habit of working through meals and not getting enough sleep, but you also knew that he shared the exact same bad habit.
“This isn’t about me,” Rex said. “Don’t try to change the subject.”
You playfully rolled your eyes, this wasn’t an unusual conversation to have. “If I go to bed, you need to go too, because I know you haven’t slept either.”
Rex sighed, but he didn’t try to refute your point. “Fine,” he said. “I’ll walk you to your quarters, and then I’ll go to sleep.”
“Do you promise?” You didn’t know if you believed him, but maybe you could actually get him to take a break if you pushed a little bit.
“Yes, I promise.”
“Good,” you said, straightening up the piles of flimsi on your desk before getting up and throwing the trash you had accumulated in the small can on the other side of the room. You would never admit it out loud, but you secretly loved it when Rex came to visit, because his presence automatically made you feel better.
As you walked the quiet halls of the base side by side, you couldn’t help but sneak little glances at him. The 501st was rarely on Kamino for long, although they did stop by at a higher frequency than some other battalions. You had quickly formed a friendship with many of the men in blue, but the captain was the one you felt the most pull towards. In another world, where there wasn’t a war going on, maybe the two of you could have been more than casual friends, but right now you both had more pressing duties than romance.
As you finally approached your quarters, it seemed like Rex wasn’t going to let you off the hook that easily. “I really don’t like that you sleep so little,” he said.
“I could say the same thing about you,” you said. “I think we both have a problem that’s not being helped by the jobs we’re working.”
The ghost of a smile crossed his face, and his shoulders relaxed slightly. “I think you’re right,” was his response. “And we both need to try to get a little more rest.”
There was a pause, a moment where neither of you spoke, and instead you just held his gaze, not sure what to say. The silence wasn’t awkward, and you felt an invisible force pulling you closer to him.
Right as you opened your mouth to ask him if he wanted to stay and relax for a few minutes in your room, a loud crash echoed through the hallway, which set off the automatic alarm. The two of you shared a look of confusion as the deafening noise blared for a few seconds and then stopped, and whatever moment had been starting to form was already broken between you.
You would never admit it out loud, but that night as you fell asleep, you couldn’t help but think about Rex’s kind eyes and warm smile.
***
It wasn’t for quite a few rotations that you found yourself once again in the company of the 501st, but this time you were on their flagship. Apparently there had been some major mixups with their filing, and the GAR wanted to permanently assign someone to each battalion so that this type of trouble was avoided in the future. You had been overjoyed when you received your assignment.
It was certainly an adjustment, living permanently on the ship and familiarizing yourself with the 501st’s systems and files, but you enjoyed it. And the company was much better than any of the Kaminoans that you had met or worked with before, so you really didn’t miss the rainy conditions back on Tipoca City.
There was one other big plus to this particular assignment: and that was the presence of a certain clone captain, even if he had a slightly annoying habit of forcing you to go to sleep every now and again. But as you spent more time with him on the ship, you couldn’t help the way your feelings grew even more. Every time someone knocked on your door you hoped it would be him, and you treasured every single conversation that you had.
You were currently sitting in the mess hall, picking at some flavorless blocks of ration material while you chatted with Fives, Jesse, and Kix about your day. The 501st had just come off a long and tiring campaign, so the fact that the ship was headed back to Coruscant and not another battle was a major morale booster. Even though you didn’t see any active combat, you still felt pain and worry every single time the men went off to fight, because there was the chance that some of them wouldn’t return.
“You should come to 79’s with us!” Jesse said brightly, pulling you out of your thoughts back to the world in front of you.
“Yeah!” Fives chimed in, smiling brightly. “You said you’ve never been, and it’s the best!”
“I don’t know if she would agree with your statement,” Kix said, not looking up from the datapad he was typing on. “But I do agree that you should go. If nothing else, watching these two on leave is nothing less than entertaining. Last time they got picked up by the Coruscant Guard for speeder racing after we left the bar.”
You couldn’t hold in your laughter at that. “Really?”
“Hey, we weren’t charged!” Fives said, rolling his eyes in the direction of his brother. “Thorn just took us in as a joke!”
“He still called Rex to pick you up, didn’t he?”
Silence settled over the table, which meant Kix was telling the truth (and the others didn’t want to admit it). “Well, at least you’re here to tell the tale, right?” you asked, smiling at the two ARC troopers.
Fives just smiled as Jesse opened his mouth to respond, but was interrupted by someone else sitting down at the table. “Hey Rex,” you said, unable to completely hide the way your face brightened when you saw him. “How are you doing?”
“Not too bad,” he said warmly, returning the smile you sent him. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for this leave though.”
“You’re coming to 79’s with us, right?” Fives asked. “We’re gonna make sure it’s a good time!”
Something about Fives’ tone must have set off alarm bells in Rex’s mind, because he had a quizzical look on his face. “You go to 79’s every single time we’re on leave, what’s so special about this one?”
“It’s because I’ve never been,” you said, and Rex nodded as you spoke. “Technically I haven’t even agreed to go yet, but I don’t know if I have a choice.”
“You don’t!” Jesse joked. “Come on, it’ll be fun! Captain, you both should come out with us!”
You and Rex shared a look while the others waited for your answer, and eventually you broke down first. “If Rex agrees to it, I’ll go to 79’s with you guys.”
Now the hopeful looks were being directed at the captain, and you knew he couldn’t really say no to them. “Fine,” he said. “I’ll go with you all.”
Happy exclamations were heard from all across the table, and Rex looked like he was about to say something to you when his comm device started to beep. Everyone quieted down as he stepped away and answered it. “Hello?”
You couldn’t hear exactly what was being said, but you recognized the confident tone of General Skywalker on the other end, and soon Rex was nodding goodbye and heading off to whatever he was just called to do. You watched him leave with a small smile on your face, not realizing that the others now might be able to pick up on your certain feelings for their commanding officer.
And thankfully, other than a few raised eyebrows from Fives and Jesse (which you just playfully rolled your eyes at), no one said anything to your face. You just hoped they weren’t secretly scheming to get you and Rex together at the bar, because you didn’t want to potentially jeopardize the friendship you had with him if he didn’t feel the same way about you.
***
79’s was packed and loud, but it possessed a certain charm that made you understand exactly why Fives and Jesse liked it so much. There was a feeling of laughter and light-heartedness in the air (as well as the smell of sweaty troopers, but you tried not to think about that) as you walked over to where the 501st was already seated.
“We got you a drink,” Kix said as you sat down, pushing a glass in your direction.
You smiled at the medic as you picked up the glass and took a sip. “This is good!” you said brightly.
“Yeah, the drinks are good tonight,” Jesse said, already halfway done with his. “They must have just gotten a new shipment of liquor.”
When Rex sat down at the table next to you, there was no way you could ignore the way your heart fluttered. He looked good, having removed the top half of his armor, and you couldn’t help the way you stared at little bit at his muscular frame in his GAR-issued blacks. “Glad you could make it, Captain!” Fives said, passing him a glass of beer. “This is way better than doing paperwork all night, right?”
You and Rex exchanged glances as he answered. “It will be if you don’t get yourself arrested like last time.”
Fives scoffed. “We weren’t charged!”
“And yet I still had to pick you up from the holding cell.”
Fives opened his mouth (clearly to retaliate), but no sound came out, and you tried to hide your laughter by taking another sip of your drink.
“Don’t worry, we don’t ever plan on getting picked up by the Guard again,” Jesse said, and Rex just smiled like he wasn’t sure he believed him. You did believed Jesse when he said he didn’t plan on getting arrested again, but you also didn’t think that would be the last time Rex gets a call to come get his troopers from a holding cell.
The night went on, and the group ended up dispersing a little bit. It was now just you and Rex at the table, and you were glad to get to talk to him without the rest of the 501st around. You loved them all, but you’d be lying if you said you didn’t like the situation you were in right now.
“Are you glad you were assigned to the 501st?” Rex asked, taking another sip of his third beer of the night. “Or do you miss working on Kamino?”
You paused for a moment before responding. “Other than the friends I made among the other battalions, I don’t really miss Kamino,” you said. “And the 501st certainly makes my life unpredictable.”
Rex laughed. “I feel like I should apologize for that.”
“You absolutely do not,” you said. “It just makes my life more interesting to know that a food fight could break out in the mess hall at any moment.”
“Still, I don’t want you to feel like you’re stuck with us.”
You put down the glass you were holding and looked him right in the eyes. “Rex, I could never feel like that. I love working among the 501st, and I love working with you.”
“Really? That’s the opposite feedback we usually get.”
You laughed. “Rex, I mean it. Unless you’re really trying to get rid of me, then I take back everything nice I’ve ever said about you.”
“I’m definitely not trying to get rid of you,” he said. “I’m just trying to figure out how the 501st got lucky enough to work with someone like you.”
“You guys are pretty great you know.”
“Yeah, but we’re nothing compared to you.”
The two of you were now much closer than you had been at the start of the night, and you were certainly not complaining about it. Your eyes flicked down to his lips for a fleeting moment, and you could have sworn you saw him do the same thing. Your name came out of his mouth, and you nodded in response, breath caught in your throat as your mind came up with all kinds of fantasies about how you wanted these next few moments to go.
“Yes?” you breathed.
“You really think the 501st is great?”
You just smiled. “Why don’t you give me a kiss and I’ll tell you.”
He didn’t need to be told twice, and when his lips landed on yours, you thought this had to be some kind of perfect dream. At that moment, nothing else in the entire galaxy mattered enough for you to care about it. It didn’t matter that you were in the middle of a crowded bar, it didn’t matter that if the rest of the battalion saw you’d be teased for weeks, and it certainly didn’t matter that neither you nor Rex were technically allowed to engage in romantic relationships due to your work with the GAR.
When you pulled apart for air, the two of you stared at each other. “I’ve been wanting to do that for a while,” Rex said. “But every time I made up my mind to say something, I got interrupted.”
“I’ve wanted to do that for a while too,” you said, leaning in to place another quick kiss on his lips. “And I’m still not even sure if I’m dreaming or not right now.”
“Why don’t you kiss me again, just to check?”
A soft snort left your mouth as you playfully rolled your eyes, but you would never turn down an excuse to kiss him.
And little did you know, Kix was sitting up at the bar with a smile on his face and a small pile of credits next to him on the countertop (his winnings from Fives and Jesse). He knew exactly how you and Rex felt about each other, and he also knew how to give you both the slight push you so desperately needed.

A/N: MINORS GET OUT OF HERE!! Just a self-indulgent Rex oneshot. Enjoy!!
Welcome Home
Your body was on fire—every nerve was a molten pool in the river of pleasure spreading through your limbs. Rex had you pressed in half, spearing his hard cock into your deepest, most sensitive spots. He was stuffing you so full that you could feel him throbbing. You moaned with each deliberately slow snap of his hips as the perfect stretch of him filling you brought you ever closer to the edge of bliss.
While he was always insatiable when it came to you, his beloved cyar’ika, tonight was different. After another lengthy, hair-raising deployment, he had returned desperate and wanting for your touch. The captain had barely been over your threshold before you were parting your lips against his and stripping him of his armor. However, instead of the restless, hurried desire he normally displayed, Rex had chosen to savor you.
Every kiss was hot and lingering as he licked into your mouth just to taste you one more time. He had kissed every inch of your skin as he peeled away your clothing, inhaling the warmth of your soft skin. When he had reached your center, he had spread your folds apart with his fingers, already glistening for him.
With a mixture of long slow licks and suckles to your swollen clit, he devoured you and made sure you came apart on his mouth twice before even thinking of impaling you on his leaking cock. The velvety flesh of his head had been nearly a shade of purple with need as he had coated himself in your slick, and you would never tire of the deep groan of relief he let out every time he was finally fully sheathed in your soaking walls.
Even now, as he fucked into you so tenderly, you could still taste the lingering tension of battle on his tongue mixed with the slight tang of yourself. It was passionate and sloppy, and the lewd noises of your cunt were pulling praise from him like you had never heard before.
“S-so fucking tight, baby,” he muttered. His breath was sweet and hot against your face as he brushed the stray hair from your eyes with one of his calloused hands, and you drank him in like nectar. “Always so tight and wet for me.”
“Maker, Rex… more. Please, please, I want more,” you keened, writhing beneath him. You were not entirely sure what you were asking for more of, but whatever was in his power to give was already yours. “Please, don’t ever stop!”
With his other hand, he laced his fingers with yours and pinned your hand above your head in a death grip. The intensity in his eyes was intoxicating, leaving you dizzy and breathless. You raked your nails down his back with your free hand to ground yourself to him in the haze of pleasure, leaving scratches in your wake that he would later wear with pride.
A deep growl bubbled in Rex’s chest at the sting of your nails. He buried his face into the tender flesh of your neck, biting down and rewarding you with a mark of his own.
“You have me—all of me, baby. You’re so perfect… taking my cock like such a good girl. Fucking missed you. Thought about you every night.”
You could only whimper in reply as your walls tightened around him with his words. Every ridge and vein of his length was drenched in your earlier releases, and you could feel yourself rocketing toward another.
“That’s right, you’re fucking mine, aren’t you? My sweet cyar’ika.”
“Fuck… yes. Yes, Rex, I-I’m yours, just yours,” you gasped as he pressed impossibly deeper. You rocked your hips in time with his, wrapping your legs around his torso and eagerly meeting his thrusts.
“I love those pretty sounds you make for me,” he whispered against your ear. “Love the way you say my name, mesh’la. Say it again.”
He kept his pace but switched his attention from your neck to your breasts as you cried out his name, wrapping his lips around one of your pebbled nipples. Each pass and flick of his tongue sent a spark to your aching core, and as he palmed at your opposite breast and rolled your stiff peak between his fingers, you begged him to let you cum.
“Rex, please… so close. I want to feel you.”
“Go ahead, mesh’la. Fuck… ‘M close, too,” he panted encouragingly. His heavy brows knit together as he felt you tighten again, and he picked up his pace. “That’s it, sweetheart, I can feel it. Together. Come on, give me one more.”
He released your breast and found your clit expertly, drawing tight circles on it as he caged you in with his sweat-slicked body. You could feel yourself growing hotter as you watched his cock disappearing into you, but you had no choice but to stare into his deep brown eyes as he pressed his forehead to yours.
“Rex…” you pleaded.
“Cum with me, mesh’la. Let it go.”
Stars exploded behind your eyes as your cunt clamped down around him, making him cry out with you as he pumped you full. Flashes of hot and cold pulsed through your veins as he ground his hips down into yours and rode out your highs together, the aftershocks of his orgasm making his body jolt and drawing out your ecstasy.
“Good girl,” he praised, nuzzling against you. That deep longing in his bones lessened as you drenched his thick length, your walls pulsing from his praise, and the strain of his time away drifted into nothingness.
Rex was careful not to rest his entire weight on you as you recovered, easing himself from your deliciously sore pussy before rolling you on top. He hugged you close, tangling his fingers in your sweaty hair and kissing you deeply. The tension was gone from his body, and you could feel him sinking further into the afterglow as his spend dripped onto his abdomen.
Trailing your fingers down the stubbly curve of his cheek, you nestled yourself into the crook of his neck as his chest heaved beneath you and whispered, “Welcome home.”

“Don’t go easy on me, Rex,” you tease while dancing around the training mat.
Rex follows your movements and takes a few half-hearted swipes. “I don’t like hitting women.”
You smirk and lunge towards the Captain, flipping him over your shoulder as his back hits the mat with a thud.
“Where did you learn how to do that?” Rex asks in shock.
“C’mon, Rex,” you lean down and whisper in his ear. “Let’s get physical.”
Your words race through his body like electricity. He grabs you, flips you over, straddles your torso, and pins your arms down. “Don’t tempt me.”

talking about Rex banging the shit out of you in the 501st clone barracks in the discord and I am a mess
he’s covering your mouth to keep you quiet and whispering filthy praises in your ear about how good you are for being quiet enough to let all his men sleep.
and he’s all “you’re taking me this hard and still staying so quiet…because you’re a good girl for me. Always my good girl.”
he just needs the relief of you. he needs you. but you’re considerate when he gets too worked up to remember or care. so you’re biting down on his hand to hold back the screams you desperately want to release and the only thing anyone can hear, if they listen hard enough, are the sounds of his thighs slapping yours repeatedly and both your labored exhales in rapid huffs.
and well, if the occasional moan or whimper or cry actually does escape you, it’s brings a little satisfied smirk across his face because damn it if it doesn’t make him so proud to know his men will realize your his. you belong to the captain.

A warm sea breeze lazily drifts over the beach club as sun beams lightly kiss the skin of vacationers and employees. Cheers and shouts from the shoreline harmonize with the ocean’s rolling waves as children splash around in the crystal blue waters. Parents sit under umbrellas with blankets and coolers of snacks while they keep a careful eye on their kids as they enjoy a moment of relaxation. Other patrons chat excitedly as they wander around the cabanas and different restaurants on the property.
Arching your back with a satisfied hum, you sink further into your lounge chair. Although your movement is limited with the weight of your lover’s body resting on your chest. Rex’s sleeping expression pinches at your movement, and his arms tighten around your waist.
“Where do you think you’re going,” he asks. His voice thick with sleep now rumbles against your skin with its low vibrato that sends shivers through you.
You peer down at him over your sunnies with an amused expression. “No where, I promise. I was, however, trying to get more comfortable, but it seems like someone’s more concerned about their afternoon nap,” you lightly tease. Rex presses his face into the crook of your neck and groans, which pulls a melodious laugh from you.
The two of you were granted an extended leave after the most recent battle. Without a second thought, Rex started to pack both your bags as he muttered under his breath about everything his commanding officers and brothers put him through with the latest so called plan. As he flew across your room looking for your favorite outfits, you quickly reserved a private cabana for the two of you to hide away and enjoy from prying eyes. Neither of you want to lift a single finger, and both of you made a secret promise to make sure the other didn’t as well.
Rex has never thought too much of what his future would be. The sensitive heart that makes it home in his chest shies away from false hope. After losing so many brothers and close friends, Rex isn’t sure he could survive even one more crack in his tattered heart. Yet when he pulls away from your soft skin, he melts when he meets your adoring expression. Late afternoon sunlight frames you in a breathtaking glow that makes Rex fall in love with you all over again. Only this time it feels like the air is knocked out of him, and Rex falls harder for you. “What would you like to do, hm?” Rex asks as one of his arms slips from your waist and cups your cheek.
Even with the summer heat, you alway find comfort in Rex’s warmth. Leaning into his palm, your eyes flutter shut for a moment as you hum in thought. “How about dinner and drinks? Been here all morning, and we forgot to bring a cooler and our beach bag today,” you muse out loud and look at him once more. Your mind finally slows into a languid peaceful bliss after half a month disconnected from the rest of the galaxy. Never in a rush to get from place to place as you focus on enjoying the taste of normalcy with your riduur.
“Then dinner and drinks, we will find,” Rex agrees with a groan as he pulls away from you. Slipping off the lounge chair, Rex stretches his arms above his head. When he opens his eyes to catch you unabashedly checking him out, Rex’s cheeks blush a deeper red from the already existing sun kiss to his cheeks. “Alright, enough of that. There’ll be plenty of time for whatever daydream you’ve come up with later,” Rex rushes to try and tame the butterflies soaring in a flurry within his stomach. He dips down and loops on arm under your knees as the other rests on your lower back.
As Rex pulls you up to his chest, your chest sears with excited nerves as laughter falls from your lips. “Rex,” you cry out in giddy disbelief. Wrapping your arms around his neck, you rest your head on his shoulder while he begins to walk towards your favorite of the club restaurants. “Please, don’t drop me,” you breathe out. You trust Rex implicitly, but the lingering nerves make you press closer to him.
Rex glances down at you with a soft expression. “I will never drop you, cyar’ika. I’m always going to be there to catch you,” he promises you. Something squeezes at his lungs when you look up at him in utter adoration, and Rex swears to himself that he will always try to keep that expression on your face. Wholly devoted to your wellbeing and happiness, Rex has never felt more at home than he has in this moment.

You walked down the half a block to the café you knew well. You had listed it as a potential meeting place because it was familiar and hoped it would ease your anxiety. You knew the owner, Ria, as the shops and restaurants in the immediate area talked to one another frequently. To trade information, products, referrals, contacts, and set up area events. You had in fact become a quite close knit community. Ria in particular had been one of the ones pushing hard for you to go to Right To Love. Her daughter, who was taking business classes in attempt to be better able to take over the family business when it was time, had gone to RTL. You had heard them talk a lot about how she had not only gained a loving partner but a new best friend through him. The next neighborhood gathering he was supposedly attending along with her new bestie and his partner. A few steps away, you wondered if he had listed Café Nova Lily in particular, or just any café. Still your stomach was in knots and you were spinning your ring as you walked to the door. You could see through the glass that the hostess also was a familiar face. Clio, the owners' daughter, was well known in the area and very kind, very extroverted. And rarely, if ever worked that night. You walked in the door and she squealed “I KNEW IT!” You froze, unable to respond. But, Clio was used to you by now and took up the slack. “Come on!” She said, taking your hand. She was going on about something but you lost track as she led you to the far corner booth of the café, where you could see him sitting. He was strikingly handsome. All of them were, of course, but for some reason he seemed different. But then you also theoretically was expecting a lot from this meeting, considering the idea behind it. Whatever Clio was saying you couldn't focus on her words because you were trying to keep composed as she pulled you through the tables, your heart pounding. Feeling like you were in freefall. “Here you go!” Clio exclaimed. He looked hesitant, but the look he shot Clio was a mix of annoyance and exhaustion as she backed away grinning. He had stood at your approach, taking your hand and lightly squeezing it, “An honor to meet you,” he said, quietly. Your mind went immediately back to the packets. 'Stiff formality can be common, especially with officers and those who dealt with high ranking officials on a regular basis,' “And you,” you answer, trying for a small smile. He waited for you to sit before he did, then he sighed. “Sorry about Clio, she usually doesn't work tonight,” he said. “I know,” you begin, but shake your head, “You know Clio?” He nodded, “She's dating one of my brothers,” You were both awkwardly quiet for a few moments. You spun your ring under the table. You both kept looking at each other only for your gazes to skip away. Almost speaking, but deciding not to. 'You have more in common than I thought!' You remembered Isa had said. Then it occurred to you so suddenly you gasped and looked up at him exclaiming, “Oh!” “What?” he asked, his forehead wrinkling in confusion. “Isa said we had a lot in common....” you looked around, then stood moving to his
side. “May I sit here?” you asked. “Of...of course, if you like,” Rex looked startled as well as confused. You slide into the booth next to him. Taking a deep breath you continue, hoping your guess isn't wrong, “I’m sorry if I’m wrong. I’m just guessing we might struggle with some of the same things. Eye contact is hard, I thought this might be easier,” Rex noticeably relaxed, becoming less stiff. “Yes, yes it is. Very clever, thank you,” he answered, glancing over in time to catch your shy smile. But was distracted by you spinning your ring on your thumb on the seat next to him. “Um, sorry,” you stop and hold still. “Nothing to be sorry for,” you noted more confidence in his tone. “What is it?” You hold your hand up in the light over the table, “It's a ring, but it's designed so the outer part spins over the inner. I...I spin it when I'm anxious or...” you shrug slightly. Rex nodded, “there is a ridge in my gloves I use similarly, when I’m in uniform,” he made a small gesture towards your hand, “may I?” “Sure,” you answered, shifting your hand slightly closer to him. He gently spun your ring and you were immediately self conscious of the bright colored stains on your hands. Before you could pull your hand back and make excuses he interwove his fingers in yours, “this okay?” He asked, quietly. The feeling of free fall eased. You nodded and stammered out a “yes,” as his thumb grazed over a blue stain on your thumb next to your ring. “I'm, I, decorate cakes,” you managed. He smiled, “I know, I saw some of them. They are beautiful,” “Thank you,” you respond, heat rising to your face. If he was that much like you, he had probably researched as much as you had. Probably had seen your gallery on the bakery’s holosite. Probably also realizing that you had done the same. In return he squeezed your hand gently once more, then suddenly pulled both of your hands under the table. Rex looked towards the kitchen. Just in time to see Clio returning with a tray of food. “Clio,” Rex said, a note of exasperation in his tone, “we haven’t even ordered yet,” She looked at both of them,”were one of you going to order something different than you always do?” “No,” you answer. “Maybe,” you heard a bit of a challenge in Rex’s voice, it made you smile. “Really?” Clio asked, looking at him skeptically. He sighed and said ”No,” Clio smiled brightly, “good! By the way mom says it’s on the house, Enjoy!” And she walked slowly away, looking over her shoulder at them. “It’s no wonder she and Echo are a good pair,” Rex grumbled. You giggled almost unwillingly. “Clio’s mom thinks he’s the absolute best. She won't stop talking about him,” you tell him, “almost as bad as Clio herself. Well between talking about him and her new best friend. Haven’t met either of them yet though,” Rex’s grin was a bit lopsided as he told her, “he and Fives are about the best, and the worst. Picked them up like a couple of abandoned tooka kits and since then
they have been both brilliant soldiers and twin headaches,” Smiling you noted, “you’re very proud of them,” He nods, but is distracted immediately. “Is your com turned on?” He asked. “No, I was avoiding some people. They mean well but would have made me more anxious,” you answered. Rex’s attention was on Clio, behind the counter. She was talking quickly on her com and kept looking their direction. He leaned towards her, “why do I get the feeling Fives has her doing the dirty work?” He asked, quietly. “What do you mean?” You ask. “Echo sliced Five’s com to listen in on his first date,” Rex explained, “I made sure mine was off so he couldn’t do it to mine. That’s why I asked. If yours was on…” “And it isn’t, so it leaves just the old fashioned way,” you respond. “So we have an audience,” Rex nodded. You both continued to eat for a few minutes, but you noticed the cafe was filling up quickly with locals. Each of them you knew and they kept glancing at the two of you. “I think word got out,” you tell him. “Mm hmm,” he hummed, but squeezed your hand reassuringly. A few more minutes pass, both of you anxious, but in a comfortable silence with each other. He still held your hand, occasionally spinning the ring. The bell on the door jingled, as two more people entered the cafe. Rex tensed up next to you, and you looked up to see two men being greeted by Clio. Obviously by their interactions there was no mistaking who they were. “osik” he hissed under his breath. “How well do they know the neighborhood?” you ask, pretending to focus on the remains of your meal. “Not well, just here and Clio's apartment,” Rex answered. “They probably won't know the set up of my building,” you mutter. “Do you want to go somewhere else? Without everyone staring at us?” “Yes,” Rex answered, “But they will follow us,” “I figured,” you answered. “But I know something they don't. Wait until Clio goes to the back and then we'll leave. If they don't get a chance to talk to her, we might get an extra few minutes.” Rex watched as Clio put the two at a table with a perfect view of the booth. Then, after talking a bit, she drifted to the kitchen. You slid out of the booth the second the door swung closed, Rex following you. You get out to the sidewalk, heading towards your apartment. The sidewalks crowded this time of evening. “They following?” You ask as you move as normally as possible through the crowds. Trying to give the appearance that you aren’t trying to escape the audience. “Yes,” “My building requires a scan to get in, I mean...most do,” you try to explain. A squeeze to your hand,”It does to get into the barracks as well,”
“It has two entrances, one on this side for access to the shopping district,” you continue, “The other faces the transport lanes and the hover trolley stop. But you would have to either go over the building, through another, or circle the block,” You purposely leave out the part where they might assume that you had gone back to your place. “And they won't know this unless Clio tells them,” Rex grinned. “Clever, you did get us a couple of minutes,” He let you lead the way into your building and up the floor to get to the transport level. Once outside he took a quick look around himself and then quickly walked towards a small dark alleyway that led to a service room for another building. He timed it as a trolley was about to pull out from the stop directly by the building. If they didn't assume that they had gone to her apartment, they may guess that they had taken the trolley to another location. He waited in the alley, listening if they showed up on this side of the building. “I meant to leave some credits for dinner, even if she did say...” he said, his tone worried. You smile, “I'm going to make Ria's favorite cake and give it to her, that will make up for it. She keeps trying to do that,” “Then I owe you,” he said, his tone teasing. “Buy me a drink?” you offer. “Good idea, Meshla,” he said, happily before kissing your temple, then freezing. “I...I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking.. I should have..” Shaking the slight daze it had caused you, you squeeze his hand tightly. You hope reassuringly. “No, don't be. It's good, great actually. You were saying?”
“Um, I know somewhere to go,” he said, “Would you be okay going down two levels?” You nod, “lead the way,” Looking far less unsure, he looked back out in the transport zone. Rex quickly pulled back. Holding his other hand up for you to be silent. Checking again after a few moments, he led you out onto the main area. “They got on the trolley, heading away from where we are going. They found another way through,” Using the crossing that went under the traffic, they crossed to the other side to the access to the lower levels. “You going to be okay walking?” He asked. “I’ll be just fine,” you answer. “Where are we going?” “A place I found when we first started helping Fox clean up the undercity,” Rex said, “Do you like music?” “Yes,” you answered, but concerned he might mean in the context of dancing. Before you could ask, he moved both of you to a side street. “They don’t think they are close, or they would have been quiet,” he explained. “Already?” You asked. “My boys are good,” he grinned. “But right now I wish they’d head back. But it’s good they think we are further ahead, they’ll pass ahead of us and we’ll be out of their way when they double back,” “They are very persistent,” you comment. “They worry,” he shrugged. “If they could they would have sat at the table,” You remember something from an article you had read that a successful match frequently wasn’t just a partner, but an extended family as well. “I’m trying to figure out how Clio knew it was going to be me that showed up. I’ve not talked to anyone but Keeva, she's my friend that owns the bakery with me. But she was too busy to ask anyways, the holonet site crashed because it got flooded and she needed a hand because the shop got busy,” you told him. Rex muttered something under his breath, then “Why I sent him for the extra training I’ll never know,” Glancing over and seeing your puzzled look, he gave your hand another squeeze and said, “In the last few months of the war Echo asked to get trained in slicing. He’s been a menace ever since. I’m sorry,” “Why?” You asked. “Your site crashing would be his fault, he would have told Fives. He can't keep his mouth shut, the entire battalion probably knows. Most of them probably looked you up at the same time,” He explained. “Hardly your fault your brother sliced your data pad and found what you were looking up,” you shrug. “I..” he tended up, half pausing a minute. You squeeze his hand to reassure him, “Hey, it’s okay. I looked you up too. Besides, you already told me.” Rex took a deep breath and then nodded, still leading them on a winding walk to get to their destination. “Your work really is beautiful, is it just cakes or?” He asked. As you walk you tell him about all the different things you have created. “Would you show me sometime?” He asked.
“Of course,” you answered. “We’re almost there,” Rex smiled at you. Two more corners and he was leading you into a small dark club, you could hear the music playing from outside. It was busy, the music carried and filled the room but didn’t feel overly loud. It came from a live band on stage. Rex scanned the room for an open table, finding none. you see another clone waving at both of you beckoning you over at the same time Rex does. This one had very long hair, However he seems far more relaxed than when the other two showed up. He leads you over to the table, squeezing your hand he says, “This is Tup, Tup, this is,” Tup was already half standing, leaning over the table, offering his hand to shake, “Oh I know. Vod, the whole battalion knows,” “I figured,” Rex shrugged, as you let go of his hand slowly to shake Tup's. Tup introduced you to his partner and gestured that you two could share the booth with them. Rex gently put his arm around your shoulders. “This okay?” he murmured in your ear and you nod as a server comes over and takes drink orders. Just as they leave the band starts again. You begin to understand why Rex was more okay with Tup in this situation. He and his partner both shared space with them without forced conversation. Just the occasional comment or question during breaks in the music. Mostly favorite music, songs, bands, and singers. When the music had started, Rex lit up. He clearly loved it. In between songs you ask, over the noise, close to his ear, “Do you play?” “No,” he answered, close to yours as the next song began “I would like to learn,” You wondered if he liked to sing, but lost track of that before the end of the song. You realize your anxiety had melted away. Replaced by the much more pleasant buzz of excitement, but in a peaceful way you hadn't experienced before. His solid warmth next to you and the weight of his arm across your shoulders grounded you. Another song break and he asked,”Do you know how to dance?” When you shake your head he adds, “Neither do I. Would you like to go and learn together sometime?” Feeling secure, you don't mask your enthusiasm, ”I would love to,” with a bright smile. His answering smile was just as enthusiastic. Eventually Tup and his partner said their goodbyes, with Rex promising to pass their com frequencies to her when they turned theirs back on. “Did you want to go now too?” he asked as they left. “Could we stay a bit longer, please?” You ask, feeling comfortable and happy. “Of course, cyar'ika” he said. You stayed until the music ended, continuing the little snips of conversation between songs. Then he wove his fingers through yours again and walked you back to your building somewhat slowly, deep in conversation. “I was going to the concert in Temple Square tomorrow afternoon,” You tell him as you approach your building. “If you would like to go with, that is if you aren't busy or...” “I would love to go with you, and no I'm not busy tomorrow,” Rex answered, stopping in front of your building. He turned towards you, “I really enjoyed tonight” the hesitation in his tone back
from much earlier in the evening. You squeeze his hand, trying to reassure him and yourself, as you answer “I did too,” Rex hesitated again, looking down at your joined hands. You had held on to each other in some way all night. Even when he had his arm around you, you had leaned into him. “May I kiss you,” he asked, looking back up. “Please,” you utter, before you even think.
His lips were soft and warm as he molded them to yours. He smelt of a spice rich aftershave and night air. You released his hand to hold onto his broad shoulders and pull him closer, leaning into him. As he wrapped his arms around you, he teased your bottom lip with a bit of that mischief you had picked up on before.
The excitement you had been feeling intensified, without the anxiety, feeling secure and grounded while still flying. After what seemed like both a long time and not nearly long enough he pulled back slightly. “Tell the boys I want a copy of that holo,” you giggle breathlessly as his forehead pressed to yours. “Hmm?” He hummed. “Behind you, to your left,” you say. He smirks, and you get the feeling you are getting to see a bit more of his personality. Rex pulls his com out, turning it on. Rex selected a frequency and put it on speaker. “Ori’vod!” You hear the answer. “How’s it going?” “Someone wants to talk to you,” he grins and nods encouragingly. “Hello boys, I’d love to have a copy of that Holo,” you say as Rex’s grin widens. You smile back as there was stammering on the other end of the line. “You heard the lady,” he added.
“It'll be in your messages before you get to your apartment,” was the first answer.
“Echo,” the other voice hissed.
“And I will see the two of you for three sparring matches each the day after tomorrow,” Rex added.
“Really sorry Rex!” They both chorused and then continued a barrage of apologies, Rex shut off the call.
“Sorry about them,” He said.
“Oh, I don't know. We left the cafe because of everyone watching us, but got to hear some good music,” you point out, “And I'll have a nice holo.”
“Our first kiss?” he asked, that hesitation back.
You fight back the self doubt, the fear of saying something wrong, and answer,”The first of many, I hope,”
His smile is bright as he says, “Speaking of, can I have one more before I leave?”
“Yes,” you smile back at him.
