cacophonous screams in d minor [update iii] // poetry update #1
femicide under the street light 🌃
Tumblr media
Do you ever realize that you’ve written a really good piece of prose but it fits better as poetry?
Here’s an excerpt from the last page of this four-page prose poem
Tumblr media
I honestly don’t know if this is “good” —tbh i’ve never written a REAL poem with the intention of writing a poem,,,,,, but I was writing Femicide Under The Street Light for Cacophonous Screams in D Minor and I was like....”hmmmm....this sounds like a poem.” So I read it out loud, changed the margins and added line breaks and...
This is actually a poem!! So enjoy everyone! Ahahahah...if you want to read this in full, private message me! Idk if tumblr chats can send photos but if it can, i’ll let you read it if you’re interested ;)
This is about femicide and murdering women just because they are women. This is a real problem in many countries and bodies often go missing without people even LOOKING for them. They’re just forgotten. It’s like...i have felt like this. Like when I was walking down the street alone at night and kept looking behind me. I’m always paranoid and the most chilling thing about this piece is that...it can happen to anyone and that it’s real. The narrator is not necessarily a misandrist, but she’s paranoid and scared, especially of men. She’s intimidated by them. *please don’t take this the wrong way. I’m not promoting misandry in this poem/prose but it’s the narrative that shows how women can sometimes be scared, paranoid and intimidated by men because femicide is real...*
Btw, send an ask or message to be on my cacophonous screams in d minor taglist!

Cacophonous Screams in D Minor [update i]
Send an ask or message to be on my taglist!
I’ll be introducing you to my new horrifying baby:
Tumblr media
(tw: cannibalism, murder, bad mother-daughter relationship)
Genre: horror, short fiction
Plot: A mother who has explicitly exposed her daughter to her cannibalism drives her daughter to a slaughterhouse.
POV: First person, present tense
Word Count: 3238
Status: Third Draft [Beta Readers Welcome!!]
Characters:
Unnamed Narrator
- Innocent, soft five-year-old who thinks her mother is a doctor who slices up her patients. We are in her pov, so by reading her descriptions of her mother’s habits, we can see that it is cannibalism. However, she doesn’t know that it is.
Her mother
- Insane, cannibalistic maniac who plans to take her daughter to her slaughterhause, kill her and taste her flesh. The narrator describes her mother staring and licking her lips at her daughter’s flesh.
Tumblr media
This will probably be included in my short story collection (which I planned to start TODAY). I only thought of writing submittable stories, but I did not think of the fact that this could be a collection. It was kinda spontaneous, but that idea sounded very interesting, and I felt like it would be fun to work on.
This story is so...idk...dark and weird af. I honestly don’t know where this idea came from. It was not on my “plot bunnies” idea list, and I had never thought about mentioning cannibalism in my writing. EVER. I was trying to write this short story with a toxic friendship, and the narrator making a choice on whether to accompany her friend to burn a house or not. And I tried to write it, but...it kinda failed. I sat in front of a blank document for I don’t know how long...and I just deleted every word and pantsed a new story. It came to this...
A few friends and i were chatting about dark plots and stories, and we mentioned cannibalism and I was like ew no. But now...idk I’m intrigued. Idk where this story will end, and it’s all spontaneous and vague. I’ve never pantsed anything before. I’m a hardcore plotter...so I’m interested in seeing where this goes.
Btw, I really like the way this is written since it's narrated by a five-year-old who's exposed to her mother's cannibalism. She's a messed up girl tbh.
I’ve heard that story ideas that click with me will make me keep writing and never stop. Well, YES. It’s this one. I was stuck with toxic-friends-burning-down-a-house thing for a week oh gosh!! Finally this idea clicked, and I can write something. Maybe even submit it someday (and get a ton of rejections) but I’m proud of myself for actually finding something to write haha.

Last Line Tag
thank you so so much @cirianne and @lysander-xp for the tag!! (i got tagged twice in the same hour, so i’m just gonna do it once but thanks anyway!!
This is from a short story called ‘femicide under the street light’ idk if it’s gonna end up an actual story or just ramblings about murder and femicide. (It’s a rarely used word so you should google it and learn a bit about it. It’s really interesting!) I haven’t done an update on this yet, but I’ll do it pretty soon!
{idk how long these tags should be, but i like this section so i’m gonna post it all! Hahaah}
So here it is!
You remember reading the paper yesterday and the day before and the week before. Bodies found near alleys, murdered the same way. Chest cut open, ribs cracked, hearts dug out and body dumped in the trash, arms and legs spread out and mouths hanging open as if screaming for mercy because it was too late to scream for help. Half a dozen bodies, murdered the same way. You can almost see their images, lurking behind your vision. How many bodies does it take for the police to be comfortable with the word femicide? How many women do men need to murder to show that there are women lurking in their bedrooms, locking the door three times to make sure it’s locked, doors barred with brooms and chairs to keep the murderers away, staying up all night to at least die a hero?
You don’t realize you are running until you see the blur of lights moving past by as if they were shooting stars. You almost wish for escape, for safety and the fact that men would just leave you alone.
A hand reaches out, as white as the color of the silver knife. It flashes, and you can see it has cut your skin, blood seeping out its trenches as if it were a waterfall.
“Please don’t hurt me,” you say, but your voice is distant.
I’m tagging @sundaynightnovels @oddsandinks @mshelleys @august-iswriting @apricotwrites and @ryns-ramblings!
{please please please tell me if you don’t like to be tagged!}
And if you want to do this tag, go ahead!! Say I tagged you. ;)

One Sentence Premise Tag
Thanks @honeyised for the tag!
Celestial City (novel)
Diana Jai’s best friend was murdered, Diana was accused for the crime, and she discovers that her best friend actually belongs to a supernatural race of guardians called the Celestials.
Cacophonous Screams in D Minor (short story collection)
1. Momma’s a butcher
A cannibalisitic mother lures her daughter into a slaughterhouse and reveals the truth about herself.
2. Gertrude’s Dream Waltz
Ludwig is a mysterious boy because nobody at his school knows his real identity and name, so Gertrude tries to hypnotize him with her favorite classical music piece (Gertrude’s Dream Waltz by Ludwig van Beethoven) and learn some information about him.
The intros are linked in the title if you want to check it out! I haven’t mentioned Gertrude’s Dream Waltz in a real update yet because it’s still kind of like a floating idea?? I am in the beta-reader-phase for Momma’s a butcher, and I’ll start drafting Gertrude’s Dream Waltz tomorrow. ;)
I don’t really know who to tag, tbh...so I’ll tag @chloeswords @themillionthdraft and @riaisntwriting

Happy Storyteller Saturday! Do you write multiple projects at once? If so, how many do you have now?
Yay hi! Yes, I do! The purpose is mainly for me to keep myself inspired. If I work on one project at a time, I often get burnt out and stop writing altogether. But once I have multiple projects, I can keep myself writing without having to force out ideas.
Right now, I have two of them: Celestial City and Cacophonous Screams in D Minor. They’re linked, so you can check them out! Celestial City is the YA urban fantasy novel I’m working on (currently outlining), and Cacophonous Screams in D Minor is a short story collection that will include weird and disturbing horror stories. I’ve written one already: Momma’s a butcher, and I’m brainstorming the second: Gertrude’s Dream Waltz!

Cacophonous Screams in D Minor [upadte ii]
Tumblr media
tw: cannibalism, murder
If you don’t know about this story, you can read the intro here.
Guess who finished drafting her story in one sitting. I’m so proud of myself,,,,,, and ahhhhh I read this story ten times and I still love it. Not to brag,,,but it’s the best thing I’ve written in what? 5 months?
I’m looking for some beta readers if anyone’s interested.
Word count: about 2500
Livers, hearts, brains, eyes, intestines, whole babies, heads, severed hands. This is what I’ll collect when I’m a doctor. I see lines and lines of skulls, arranged in a neat pattern ranging from smallest to largest on another shelf. Groups and groups of femurs, rib cages, pelvises, fibulas, humeruses. I can name them because they’re labeled. Elliot’s rib cage. Gertrude’s humerus. Baby John’s femur. Rachel’s pelvis. I touch them with the tips of my fingers. They are hard, chalky and real. They feel very real. I tip-toe to touch the rest of them. More skulls, bones, intestines and hearts. Even a brain. I wonder why Momma kept these. They are incomplete. Some parts of the livers are lined with teeth marks. Bones lined with the half-moon of nails and teeth marks scraping along the edge. Intestines torn in half and cut up into pieces. Hands with the index finger bitten off. What were these patients doing before they died? Was biting off their own finger painful?
The narrator is a five-year-old so it was a bit challenging to fit my brain into a small person. She’s really innocent, and she doesn’t know that her mother’s a cannibal. The story kind builds tension off of that detail.
I just got a new idea for another story as well! I’ll do another update when it’s more fleshed out.
Send an ask or message to be on my taglist!

3, 13 and 19 for the ask game :)
3. What is your favorite/least favorite part about writing?
My favorite part is the feeling when my fingers cannot stop moving on the keyboard and when the music I’m listening to is completely inaudible. That means I’m very very focused on my writing, and words just flow out like a waterfall!
My least favorite part is editing...haha. I like rereading my work, but editing just feels like a lot of work. I am always reluctant to kill my darliings, and I’m an underwriter so I have to add words and rewrite the story. It’s just that my rewritten draft is never as good as the first draft.
13. Describe your writing process.
My writing process often changes with every project. For a novel, I brainstorm ideas, flesh out characters and world-building, fill out my three-act story structure beat sheet in detail and outline my scene cards. I plan A LOT for novels.
For a short story collection, though, I do not plan anything. I pants all my short stories and I leave it to my fingers to figure out what happens next. I like that feeling, but doing it for novels will only make me in a bad mood when editing.
19. How do you cope with writer’s block?
I work on another project. I have two wips: Celestial City (a novel) and Cacophonous Screams in D Minor (a short story collection). When I am in the mood for urban fantasy, I write my novel. When I am in the mood for some gruesome horror, I write a short story, edit one or just brainstorm one.
I get into a lot of writing slumps, but I find writing ANYTHING a great remedy. I just open a document and type whatever comes into mind.
