Are you aware that I'm-a-gay-fish and Zu ship dr//m/are ?/genq
okay so it took me a while to answer this but i finally found the words to so here goes; yeah i do know, and i totally understand if you don't ship it, neither do i, but there's nothing i can do about it?
they're allowed, so long as they don't harm people, to do whatever they want on their own platforms. and before you ask me if i support *ncest, would you actually ask someone if they support toxic relationships and murder whenever they ship two unhealthy killers with mental problems? because that's funnily enough what most people do around here! you can say it's not the same, and that they're romanticizing it, but i can personally detach myself from fiction enough to realize that while this concept depicted in their art shouldn't be recreated in real life, that doesn't mean they actually engage or support people that do that irl- they asked zu the same question so many times, and frog doesn't either and i've known gayfish for three years! you're well within your right to stop associating with them or distance yourself from their content but i myself won't.
i know fiction affects reality to a degree, don't twist my words please, but if you're too young to consume that kind of content with a nuanced perspective or is triggered/affected by it then as long as they tag their content properly then you can unfollow, block and move on. i have a habit of following and reblogging people's works before looking at their bios and before i know it find myself having to choose between two sides i don't belong to and i frankly don't want to! anti this or proship that- in this online era you have to adapt by keeping your cool and curating your own online experience and viewing people in black and whites is stressful, painful and dangerous for everyone involved. i don't even reblog the content you probably have a problem with, and i'm honestly still scared of the response i'll get-
i will not blame or hate whoever unfollows or blocks me for this, it's to be expected, but please don't think about it like some bad vs good guys dilemma? sometimes thought provoking morally grey ambiguous stories with messed up characters spark more positive discussion and healing than people looking into it because they suffer from the same delusions and want a justification-
like realistically, in my blog, most ppl here are basically shipping two literal skeletons with magic in their bones who are sometimes almost the exact copy of one another, and who theoretically have a very similar dna, and sometimes they make shipkids, which, if you know anything about *ncest, is one of the main reasons why you shouldn't bang your siblings - mostly from a moral standpoint because that's so gross i can't even think of it, but also because any offspring would suffer greatly from physical and mental diseases hidden in their genetic code- like. you could argue it's not the same but it's sancest for a reason. and even when they're widely different sanses, you wouldn't think fell x sans is wrong (at least in this specific community) but really we've all just gotten numb to how weird that sounds. trust me, there's a reason we don't talk about our ships to outsiders HHH
TL,DR: so while i greatly encourage you to block people and content you don't want to see/associate with, including me! i hope i made it clear why i, personally, don't care about dreammare and whoever ships it.

couragetcd's comment on Further Down Road One: So sweet! I adore Sasuke fan boying over Shikako. If you ever feel like dropping back into this story, could we see Shikako dealing with Sasuke's fangirls? Please?
I’ve been thinking about this question since I saw it, and I do have an answer but it’s not really in fic form… and it maybe goes more into Konoha politics than any actual relationship dynamics, as per my usual, lol. Here we go!
To address the question, there isn’t much for Shikako to deal with in regards to Sasuke’s fangirls, largely because I highly doubt he has that many fangirls in this AU. This AU being, of course, the early betrothal as this Shikako’s (successful) attempt to thwart the eventual Uchiha Massacre by removing one of the main reasons for it--ie, the extreme isolation of the Uchiha clan—via essentially tying the Uchiha to the Akimichi-Nara-Yamanaka alliance which would be MUCH harder for Danzo to get rid of (mostly because there’s more of them, they’re far more blended into Konoha’s administration, and my own head-canon that the Akimichi have direct ties to the Fire Daimyo not just influence in Konoha)
All that being said, it’s pretty well known (definitely amongst the ANY and Uchiha clans, probably also amongst the other major Konoha clans, maybe even the “smaller clans” which I will get into later) that Shikako and Sasuke have been betrothed since they were about 7 years old. And obviously IRL people who are in relationships do still have fans, but there’s a difference between “fan of your music/movies/appearance/etc” vs “fan of you as a person, with the intention to eventually date” which I think the latter is what Sasuke’s fangirls are in canon (considering he, you know, isn’t a content creator). Anyways, known betrothal takes care of a majority of that.
Additionally, because Sasuke is no longer the angsty, mysterious Last Uchiha, I don’t think as many girls would be attracted to him—that’s not even including how overtly devoted to Shikako he is in this AU so early on. Like, don’t get me wrong, Sasuke still looks the same (which, presumably to preteen girls, is devastatingly handsome) but he’s also no longer the only one that looks like that. Obviously there’s Itachi who may or may not be more handsome (hard to tell with the art style) but the ENTIRE Uchiha clan is still alive. And if most of them are Konoha Military Police, I imagine even the civilian-born students are seeing, you know, members of KMP getting puked on by drunken disorderly shinobi and still having to wrangle them into the shinobi equivalent of a drunk tank. Or they’re the ones who are running after Naruto when he pulls his messier pranks and getting paint and glitter bombed by him—it just kinda loses the appeal after all that.
This next point may seem a little cyclical, but part of what makes someone attractive is that other people find them attractive also. So if the first two reasons above have reduced the number of fangirls Sasuke would have in this AU, then that lack of numbers would further reduce the number of fangirls. In canon, Sasuke was highly sought after by the queen bee Ino, her ex-best friend turned rival Sakura, and, presumably, basically everyone else except Hinata. So not only was canon!Sasuke SO desirable that the trend-setter, leader of the kunoichi pack Ino wanted him, her former best friend (who only stopped getting bullied because of Ino) Sakura decided he was worth losing her only friendship over.
However, in this AU, there’s no way Ino would do anything to 1) jeopardize her clan or 2) upset her BFF Shikako. And, while I think Sakura would still consider Sasuke cute, I think she is probably a bigger fan of romance in general (since a lot of her fangirling over Sasuke in canon was an entirely imagined version of him) and so she would be a fan of the betrothal if anything else. And also, funnily enough, because Shikako isn’t infatuated with Sasuke that makes him even less appealing to anyone else. Like, lol, even his future wife doesn’t have a crush on him, that’s pretty funny. I mean, ideally, she comes to love him eventually (and again, whether that is romantic or platonic is ?????) but there’s no heart-eyes, nervous blushing from Shikako whatsoever, lol.
If you take out the top three kunoichi of their class (top four, including Hinata, who even in canon was NOT INTO Sasuke) then who do you have left who could even be fangirls of Sasuke? It’s entirely possible that there are multiple classes per year (especially considering in this kinder AU, the living KMP are absolutely wrecking Danzo’s ROOT recruitment so there’s just more students) so probably those who aren’t in the same class don’t get the front row seat to Sasuke being devoted fiancé and thus are more likely to be his fangirls. But they also probably have their own “hotties” to fangirl over. Or if they’re already going to fangirl over someone not in their class, why not someone not in their year? Neji’s a year above, still as devastatingly tragic and beautiful as ever. What’s Sai doing? DoS fandom has decided he’s an Uchiha as well and, probably, one that isn’t as OVERTLY DEVOTED TO HIS FUTURE WIFE as Sasuke is.
Backtracking a bit (and this is where I fully went off the rails and weirdly political) the next kunoichi in their class, influence and capability-wise, is probably Ami, the girl who, in the flashback, was bullying Sakura which led to Ino befriending her in the first place. I personally head-canon Ami as a Mitarashi (based entirely on very minimal details of similar coloring, personality, and affinity for tea shops as Anko) and I further head-canon the Mitarashi family as either a “smaller clan” or a family that is trying to be recognized as a “smaller clan.” And depending on 1) how politically savvy Ami is and 2) how crucial/desperate the Mitarashi family are to become an established “smaller clan,” I think Ami would not publicly fangirl over Sasuke even if she were, for some reason, still attracted to this boy, given four of the major clans are invested in this betrothal and she wouldn’t want to risk any political blowback on her family/clan.
Now, what do I mean by that?
THE REST OF THIS HAS NO BEARING WHATSOEVER ON SASUKE OR SHIKAKO SO FEEL FREE TO STOP READING IF MY BULLSHIT POLITICAL NONSENSE IS NOT YOUR CUP OF TEA
Konoha’s social structure is extremely clan based. Or, technically, it is power based but clans have consolidated power versus and individual’s power. Take, for example, the Nara clan versus Kakashi. Except for maybe Shikako, there is no individual Nara who is more powerful than Kakashi. However, if, for some reason, an extremely OOC Kakashi were to kill a member of the Nara clan, there would be hell to pay. Like, maybe this extremely OOC murderous Kakashi would be able to kill every single Nara but all at once? Probably not. With the Akimichi and Yamanaka backing them? Even less likely. With the other clans of Konoha concerned that this extremely OOC murderous Kakashi might very well go after them if they don’t stop him now? Game over. Weird premise, but sort of necessary to set up the next bit.
The above is an established major clan vs extremely powerful (basically Hokage or Hokage candidate) individual, with the established clan winning. However, we’ve already seen in canon what happens when a not established clan—or, what I consider a “smaller clan”—goes up against said extremely powerful individual. In fact, this is canon, and is the same extremely powerful individual.
Because, as far as the Nohara family/clan is concerned, murderous Kakashi is not OOC at all. As far as they know, Kakashi totally got away with killing Rin and faced no consequences whatsoever. The Nohara family/clan—it’s sort of up in the air of how established/recognized they are by the Konoha government, depending on what I feel is needed in any given fic—are, in fanon/my head-canon, made of medics. Not out of any particular blood limit/genetic basis (maybe they tend to have better chakra control, or a higher capability for memorization, but that’s not exactly ground breaking) but a sort of familial culture of study and generational knowledge passed down. A Nohara may have a slight advantage against a civilian born person, but nothing insurmountable. So even consolidated, the Nohara family/clan do not have as much collective power as Kakashi the individual does.
So then we get into the whole Mitarashi thing, which is why I completely tangented away from the Shikako and Sasuke betrothal thing and into this talk of murderous Kakashi to begin with. Because you can parallel the murderous Kakashi getting away with killing Rin with the exploitative/probably abusive Orochimaru getting away with EVERYTHING HE DID TO ANKO.
And, look, what would the Mitarashi even do? I imagine they were, at first, honored that Anko was even chosen to be Orochimaru’s apprentice. At the time, he was not only one of the Sandaime’s students, he was possibly the most likely of said students to succeed him what with Tsunade running away from her trauma and Jiraiya roaming around being an almost literal fuckboi.
Maybe they even rationalized the mistreatment in the beginning: I can’t imagine the Mitarashi had any jounin before Anko. If anything, her being apprenticed to Orochimaru is probably the closest they had to one of their members becoming jounin. And so what would they know of high level training? He said the seal on her would make her more powerful and who are they to refute the possible one day Hokage? It’s an honor, surely?
And while there is further to be said about abuse of authority and, well, other abuse between Orochimaru and Anko, I don’t want to go there in this post even though, again, I’ve already fully departed from the fluffy AU of Shikako and Sasuke’s literal life saving engagement.
Ultimately, getting back to the family vs “smaller clan” matter. I think that while the family/clan’s own power does contribute a lot to what they can/can’t do and what inherent protection they have, there is probably some legislation in Konoha about what rights clans have (with the murderous Kakashi and abusive Orochimaru being exceptions rather than the usual) especially considering during the founding of Konoha so much legislation HAD to be about protecting clan rights in order to get these historical enemies to coexist.
SO, that means there is incentive for large/cohesive enough families to be formally/legally recognized as a clan in order to have those rights—maybe it’s land or reduced taxes or something where the murderous Kakashi and abusive Orochimaru situations don’t completely violate those rights? Or maybe it’s that the clan CAN enact THEIR OWN retribution without repercussions from Konoha but because, again, the consolidated power of the Nohara and Mitarashi vs murderous Kakashi and abusive Orochimaru are negligible, that’s how those situations can happen without them outrightly being violated… which maybe explains the issues in the bleak Primadonna Girl fic? Oh snap, did I back myself into figuring it out in this completely unrelated post? Whoops.
Regardless. Because there is an incentive to become a formally/legally recognized clan, there have to be some prerequisites in order to qualify. Which, apparently, I’ve gotten into before in this care!Kako/reverse Gardens AU ficlet: “Establishing a clan requires three active-duty shinobi who share a bloodline and sponsorship from two other clan heads”
Although, now that I’m properly looking at it, that seems too easy. I mean, for that particular fic’s sake, I needed it to be that easy for, you know, feels. But in a practical “how would Konoha actually function” I think it needs to be a little more robust than that. I do think a minimum number of active-duty shinobi who a share a bloodline is necessary. It should probably be more than three, and/or there should be rank requirements. So it’s not just, for example, three genin siblings getting launched into clan status out of nowhere. I mean, the sponsorship—or, probably what I actually meant was endorsement—from two other clan heads would probably prevent that, but, again, we can’t leave these things to chance.
So if I were to come up with more robust requirements for formal/legal clan establishment, it would be:
X number of active-duty shinobi who share a bloodline
Y% of the X number must be at least chuunin rank
endorsement from at least Z other clan heads
I don’t know what numbers/values X, Y, or Z would reasonably be, but it would, again, justify why the Mitarashi family would turn a blind eye or, at least, not look TOO closely at Anko’s apprenticeship with Orochimaru if they were trying to meet those unknown numbers/values in order to qualify for established clan status. And, to weirdly circle back to the top of this tangent, would explain why Ami wouldn’t publicly fangirl over a betrothed Sasuke because that theoretically could risk the endorsement part of the requirements (even though none of the clans involved would be that petty? but when you’re not yet established, it feels like every potential misstep gets exaggerated into something dire)
Anyway, sorry for going so horrifically off the rails on this one. I did start ideating on what a “Shikako reacts to Sasuke’s fangirls” fic would look like, but to be honest it was mostly **shrug, go back to whatever she was doing before** while SASUKE is the one who is upset at them since they might make him look bad in front of his fiancee. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not the same anon as the other ask, but I guess my question comes from the difference between personal vs political opinion on people who consume that type of media. Like if someone wants to draw some fake anime kids having sex (let’s say they do it because that’s a thing they like to imagine and not for any satire reason), I don’t think they should be put in jail or anything, but I do think that they’re a creep no matter whether they aren’t harming any real kids or not and I wouldn’t want to be friends with them. Even if they would never harm a real kid, even if their account is marked 18+ only and they rigorously check every follower and block them if they even suspect they’re a minor, I still wouldn’t want to interact with this person because if someone enjoys creating and consuming that content, that is an interest I find disgusting because just because the kids they are imagining are fake it can’t be completely de-linked from the existence of irl children or at least attraction to the traits associated solely with them
As a second, semi-unrelated question, I guess it begs the question on drawn cp (I know you don’t agree with the term but there’s not better one) of real people, like the adults who drew porn of, say, the cast of It back in 2017 when they were all between 13-16? Sure it didn’t involve making real kids do those things, but it was depictions of real kids doing sex acts and I don’t see how them not being directly involved means using their faces to make porn is okay. (Not to accuse you of supporting this, genuinely curious on where you think the distinction lies if any)
Thanks for the question! Appreciate you being thoughtful and respectful about these difficult topics, and I trust that those of you who see this ask shan't clown in the notes.
I think it's valid of you to have your own personal boundaries about who you interact with online. It's clear that you've reflected on exactly why you find this interest disgusting, which is great, we love critical dissection in this household, but I'd like to push back on that a little. I find it interesting that you specifically mentioned anime in this question. If we're talking attraction to traits associated solely with children, that's an area where anime really muddies the waters. After all, it's very easy to find anime 14 year olds with 8 packs and chiseled jawlines and anime 28 year olds, especially women, that look like children — not to mention the 1000 year old loli trope. In many cases, especially in shonen fandoms, someone who didn't know the canon ages of the characters wouldn't be able to differentiate between nsfw art of adults and minors even if they were all drawn perfectly on-model. And then of course we could get into the weeds about the distinction between children and teenagers, ages of consent in different countries, weird timeline stuff that goes on in a lot of anime and creates a bunch of technicalities (like Kusuo Saiki being physically 16 but mentally 21), how this relates to real people with disorders that make them appear prepubescent long after the age of majority, et cetera, et cetera. I definitely understand why it makes you uncomfortable, but I'm generally not as quick to judge creators of anime porn on the basis of association with childish traits simply because anime is so stylized that such associations kind of lose meaning. I mean, I'm attracted to anime men, and I experience zero attraction to people in real life, so it's easy for me to see how what someone enjoys in anime and what they're attracted to IRL could be fairly divorced. I'm not trying to argue that you're wrong, just something to think about, I guess.
As for your second question, hoo boy. The issue of explicit art of real children kinda relates to another issue i've seen people talk about, that of explicit RPF of real minors. It's a conversation that I think demands a lot of critical analysis and discussion that people are unfortunately generally not willing to have in a public forum. For the sake of my answer, I am determining that we are solely talking about minors who are under 18 in real life and are American so we don't have to deal with any age of consent debates. This includes minors who play over-18 characters but not child characters played by adult actors, or else we have to start talking about Riverdale and that's a whole other conversation.
I guess I can start with praxis. Let us assume that we all agreed that this is Wrong and Bad. Come play with me in this space without assuming anything about my position from this hypothetical. What now? What concrete actions could institutions take to prevent the existence of Wrongbadthing? Would it be morally right for people to harass those who create or enjoy Wrongbadthing? The relevant entities here would be the US government, AO3, and platforms that host art. I am against most government restrictions on art that people create, because they will inevitably be interpreted through a far broader lens than their original intention. And I don't think it would be productive for AO3 to ban certain types of explicit fic. People would just stop tagging their explicit minor RPF as such, and then we still have equal volumes of the Wrongbadthing but without the tools for people to avoid it. Not to mention it raises logistical problems with moderation and enforcement. Like, what happens when a celebrity turns 18? Are people then allowed to write explicit fic about them when they were younger than that? Maybe we can all agree that it's bad for a 30 year old author to write porn about a 13 year old actor — but what about a 15 year old author writing porn about a 16 year old actor? Any distinction between the two regarding enforcement would require some sort of age verification beyond self-identification, and that's a recipe for disaster. as for platforms like twitter that would host the kind of explicit art we're talking about, well. i think it's pretty easy to see how any sort of enforcement on a minor rpf explicit art ban would be an absolute nightmare. it's hard enough for social media sites to even enforce a porn ban. now imagine a porn ban that needs to incorporate facial recognition of a bunch of people across all different art styles — im not sure that's even possible. as for harassment — the most common punitive response on the individual level — i dont think that's justified in this case. as you've pointed out, regardless of personal feelings on the subject, this art isn't causing material harm to any real person.
I honestly don't engage with RPF communities in general — it's one of my squicks — and I'm not quite comfortable making grand moral generalizations about people I've never really interacted with. From what I understand, there are commonly accepted codes of ethics within RPF communities, and I'm not really sure how those mesh with explicit fic about real minors.
i am personally...not a fan of explicit RPF fic and art about real minors, to say the least. i think it ties into larger celebrity culture that objectifies and sexualizes children in the limelight. but like. what am i gonna do about it? doing journalism has forced me to learn how to not get outraged or disgusted about things i cant do anything about. i just don't follow those people. I'd defend their right to host their work on the platforms we use, but only because any effort ive seen proposed to restrict that work would cause more harm than good and wouldn't even be remotely effective at its stated goal. in terms of harm reduction, the best i can do is support moderation policies that allow that stuff to be clearly tagged and RPF informal ethics codes that stress a firm division between fandom and subject.
i haven't yet formed a super solid discursive framework that i'm confident in defending about this issue, so i'll just fall back on praxis lol
would love to hear from someone who's more involved in RPF than i am haha!

Hi I read your post about the bat boys dynamics, now how the fandom been handling it for years been pissing me off as someone in a blended family.
Now I have a step-turned adopted brother, him and I meet when he was 4 and I was 9. We’re currently estranged, but for the most part it took me….I want to say a year to see him as my brother properly. Not saying I hated him, but to form a bond.
Now the problem with the bat boys, well I want to say Damian histories with them in general. Is writers BARELY gives depth into their bonds and most of the time it seem meaningless. Vs how you and even Arabian batboy pointed out how their bonds with female characters seem more fleshed out as the writers put effort in making their bonds…for the most part…looking at you Williamson.
I am no eugenic, but there a difference between my bond with bio sister vs my bonds with adopted siblings
My issues is how the Batfamily fandom try to force a nuclear family dynamic into the Batclan…when writers clearly show that half of the time they see them as a militia vs a found family.
Oh and the writers personal bias, like in Gotham war where Tim told Damian he always saved Bruce vs the latter only fighting him….is there any goddamn archives at dc for writers to check up on characters lore?
Sorry I just want to air this out, because this bat brothers fanon been driving me up the wall. They are brothers on paper, but none of them are each other keepers if that make sense?
I think it makes sense. I'm sorry to hear about your estrangement.
And yeah a lot of time fandom wants to act as if the fact that they're all adopted (or biologically related) to Bruce on paper means that they'd have the exact same relationship people might have if they grew up together in the same house, but like... that's a drastically over-simplified thing. like i remember getting into an argument* with someone who was adamant that Damian should fanboy or look up to Tim b/c Tim is his older brother and people do that stuff IRL. But like... a) not everyone does b) Damian did not actually live in the same house as Tim, his dynamic was not the same as someone who grew up with an older brother, they clearly had many canon interactions indicating the opposite!
and also like: Obviously you shared your experience with how long it took you to form a bond, and realistically it would also take Damian time to form a bond. If his interactions are antagonistic, like they are with Tim, it would take work for them to get close, and panel time we do not see. This isn't to say they can't consider each other brothers, we see evidence at least Tim considers Damian his little brother and Damian's no longer antagonistic to him** and respects him some, but they definitely wouldn't have a super close bond like we see Damian have with Maya or Dick.
And yeah so many of the writers have personal bias its cringe to read. Except like. I have never seen Tim portrayed really negatively in Damian's comics. In general, it's to put Damian down. I analyzed it in general here (link)
And like. WRT personal experiences I'm sure there are some people who view their adopted siblings as similar to their bio siblings... but also WRT not simplifying everything -- that doesn't mean it's the same for everyone, and it definitely doesn't mean that that means every single Batfam member who is adopted by Bruce has the same relationship that people who are all raised in the same house in general at the same time, since they were babies might have. Like it'd be oversimplifying and trying to flatten out dynamics to act as if that's how it did happen.
Also if you are the same blended family anon as earlier, I do want to say I got a long anon ask from you ages ago but forgot to answer it sorry :C then I couldn't tell if too long had passed and it was weird to answer it
*act surprised, I was in an argument /j
**current canon shows more evidence for Tim being antagonistic to Damian than vice versa.

You mentioned in an earlier post that Izuku never takes the time to process his own emotions and his reactions to situations. What do you think would change if he did? Like, how would an Izuku who is learning to process his emotions differ from the old Izuku? We've talked before about how Izuku isolates himself emotionally from other people, but I was wondering about what parts of Izuku do you think he doesn't want to see? For instance, we've said he doesn't like his negative emotions and he's often ashamed of himself for having them. We've said that compared to other characters he feels strangely mysterious. I've seen some posts before saying that Izuku's opinions on society are hard to understand because he often doesn't express them. Both before and after getting his quirk he's faced some very harsh treatment from society, yet his opinion on said society remains...strangely hard to decipher. Personally, I get the sense that he's often so worried on reaching his goals and keeping people safe that he simply doesn't let himself come to conclusions about things. Nor do I think he would let himself express it if he deemed those emotions selfish in nature. The narrative surrounding Izuku has always been strangely hard to discern, but it's given me the sense that we're supposed to view Izuku's brand of selflessness and lack of selfishness as a flaw, not a value. It started with critiquing the consequences his selflessness brought about, and lately it seems (to me at least) to have grown into criticizing the way he never takes himself into account. Before now, the story hasn't felt like it's pushed Izuku to have an opinion on the political issues that are going on, simply to prevent things from falling apart. The more he thinks about Shigaraki though and is confronted about his flaws, the more it feels like the narrative is pushing him to decide what he believes (instead of simply reacting). I hope this made sense, it was hard getting my exact thoughts out since not many people mention Izuku's lack of opinions. Sorry if it didn't.
Thank you for the questions! I try to get these out about a day or two after people send an ask but uh, irl stuff happened recently and it’s been a bit rough in general.
I think how much Izuku will change solely depends on how much horikoshi does or doesn’t know about emotional intelligence. Since uraraka and Katsuki have both changed a lot when their emotional intelligence improved, I’m gonna say he at the very least knows enough to have done therapy at some point in his life.
The thing with analyzing vs processing emotions is that it’s a very new age idea. I’ve seen therapists online explain that they didn’t actually know what processing emotions meant and they just told it to clients and it worked for some people and not for others. But it is something pretty integral to how people get past old wounds and trauma. Tbh with you, a diary is one of the best ways to actually do that, same with venting to someone. You are sitting in your own emotions and just.. going. Some people solely do it through therapy by talking about surface issues which slowly unravel the bigger ones.
Most people already process emotions one way or another but Izuku just keeps going all the time, always. Never takes a step back to look at everything. Never uses critical thinking for anything that is not inherently selfless. If he were to not take the step back to really look at it all, he would run himself into the ground and kill himself.
So, how would new Izuku change from old Izuku? Healthy reactions to emotions is really the big one. Also healthy and thoughtful reactions to anyone he cares about almost dying; like Katsuki. He has to accept who he loves and really analyze why he feels something, so he can be happier and healthier.
Healthy is really up to perception. It’s a healthy balance between Izuku’s personality and how a happier Izuku looks. Not only would he not set his value on how close he can get to suicide in order to save someone, it would also stop those extreme reactions.
Think of ofa as Izuku’s emotions. At the beginning it is all or nothing, much like his middle school years. Then it’s some or everything, like in high school. Ofa is a manifestation of his emotional intelligence in the actual manga, but it’s also an overall metaphor for how he grows up. The more control and closer Izuku gets to emotional maturity, the more control Izuku gets over ofa. We’re in the final stretch, he’s reigned in on most of his emotions, except those having to do with Katsuki. That’s because his emotions having to do with Katsuki are what he fears the most. Along with how Katsuki has become his weakness; therefore Katsuki is in danger constantly because of how much Izuku cares about him.
When Izuku started using shoot style and his legs for his main fighting style, he realized his own internal distaste of all might due to how he wants to be his own hero. When he was rescued during his vigilante arc, he realized his fear of being vulnerable. When his mother apologizes for not telling him the things he needs to hear, he understands the hidden distasteful emotions he has of his mom.
He’s been emotionally maturing at a snails pace, but that’s because of his trauma and toxic masculinity.
I also believe (and this may just be me projecting lol) that he has some kind of internalized homophobia. Homophobia/transphobia was established when big sis mag was misgendered and toga/twice got defensive of her. “Don’t that make that mistake again”
We all know Izuku’s quote during deku vs kacchan part 2 when he calls his feelings “gross”. I think it fits really well into internalized homophobia, especially because of just how relatable it is. It’s also (again) tongue and cheek with the homophobic fans. Making Izuku call his feelings gross shows EVEN MORE how much Izuku was made to make fun of dudebros who watch the show.
I just don’t see the point in establishing that transphobia/homophobia exists if it won’t be relevant to our two secretly queer characters. (Izuku and ochako) But, I’ve said this before, projection and bias is apart of any analysis, and that includes my own. Don’t take my words by law, rather as guides for what YOU take away. Stories have purpose in showing a message, yes, but in some aspects, projecting onto storytelling can make it equally as fulfilling to us.
Back to Izuku tho. Izuku has never truly processed a feeling to do with “kacchan” ever. Throughout the entire show it has either been met with thinly veiled envy, anger, and this silly little emotion that he doesn’t know what it is yet. Love to us, quite obviously, but not to him. He just doesn’t know. He understands who Katsuki is on every level, just not what he means to Izuku. Or maybe he does. That’s the amazing thing about horikoshi keeping Izuku’s thoughts under wraps; right now, we get to make our own interpretations.
However, if you want to know more about Izuku and his relations to Katsuki, this post (along with dekacchannn’s other posts) and the entirety of angy-grrr’s queer hypothesis are great places to find those things. I saw you sent an ask to angy-grrr recently, so I’m sure you’ve probably read some already, but their post of shojo vs shonen is one of my favs.
Rambling again. Anyway, what parts do I think Izuku doesn’t wanna see? His anger, romantic feelings, and, most of all, his deep rooted distaste of certain people around him who have hurt him. (purposefully or not) Now, this isn’t to say anyone around him is necessarily a bad person, but part of maturity is being able to say “you hurt me and I want to heal from that” regardless of how much that guilt will hurt that person. People make mistakes, we’re all human, and that’s made a point in mha frequently. I’m of the opinion that endeavor is learning to be a good father and husband, and he is not owed forgiveness but it is good if one of the people who he hurt chooses to forgive.
You should never let the guilt of someone else stop you from healing. It’s your trauma. You get to choose how much or how little someone knows, yes, but some things require you to talk about the mistake with the person. Izuku is selfless, ofc, so he would rather deal with it all completely on his own if he has to deal with it at all, but he’s afraid of what he may dislike about someone. He’d feel so guilty if he was still holding onto any feelings.
Do I think he’s holding onto old wounds? No, surprisingly. Like I said before, after certain events he realized why he felt the way he did and also what caused those aggressive reactions. In fact, he even talks about how he feels about allmight in 348.
Tumblr media
This is old news to him. He’s reciting something he’s known for a while, seeing as he’s literally thinking of battle strategies while he talks to her. This line about shutting down izu//ocha for good, (as he’s directly saying he does not experience love the way that uraraka does) about how he won’t say Katsuki, (to not shut down bkdk) and also to show a glimpse into Izuku’s feelings of allmight.
Does this mean I think he has fully processed or analyzed an emotion in his life? NOPE! Does this mean I think he’s almost there? Absolutely.
As for political opinions I think it’s a similar situation as his love of Katsuki because he feels like he’d somehow be betraying allmight or being on the villains side. Propaganda uses our abilities with pattern recognition and societal expectation to fit in by telling you that “this is the norm. There is something wrong with you if you do not believe in x”, and hero society uses propaganda frequently to shame people into shape. Keep them in line. Anyone who does not fit into this formula is useless/villainous and we should shame them until they either break and become what they “truly are” (a villain) or make them fit this standard.
My hero uses the war propaganda old comics in the US but in a way that actually shows you how this perception is warped. You yourself have talked about how mha manages to actually be more optimistic and peaceful than shows like SU even though it dabbles in darker themes. (Child abuse, poverty, ableism)
If you’ve watched any tv show/movie ever, there will always be propaganda in it one way or another. Studio ghibli movies tend to show a more anti war and hopeful message than the classic Disney movies.
Anyway, this is all to say, that Izuku is prone to propaganda. He feels like if he has an opinion at all that he is villainous. It’s why uraraka didn’t really have an opinion either until recently. It’s the fear that if you call out anything wrong with heroes, that you will be labeled as someone you aren’t. The shame of just saying ANYTHING is wrong is THERE. If hawks talks about how the hero commission basically made him a child soldier, then he is apart of the league. And yeah, I may not have explained this in the best way either, but I honestly believe most of why Izuku is so apolitical seems to have to do with shame. Idk, maybe I’m wrong, not SUPER confident in this, but yeah. Partly propaganda/cultural norms, partly the fear of being isolated, and partly not actually taking time to process his feelings ever.
Anyway, hope this made sense. I talk too much about a lot of topics as per usual, but ig that’s what y’all are here for anyway lol
I’m not rereading this bc like I said a lot of irl stuff happening so I hope I answered this in a way that made sense

idk but like my standard is on thE GROUND so. anyone willing to understand me and still love me and give me cuddles and know like the basics abt me and im like gone. and this is gonna get really deep and shi but like honestly do you belive in like true romantic love? because i thought i did but i dont, because divorce and SA rates are at their peak and like yeah. :( thats why i love reading romance and watching romcoms. i can never do angst cuz there's enough angst in life so yk
sorry for the deep talk but idk you seem like a really cool person and it feels easy to talk to you!! but!!! i do believe in platonic love so!!! youre doing great!!!
-🌱
hello my dear 🌱 anon, my full reply under the cut because it's very long 😅 and also because warnings: talks about SA and toxic relationships.
same? because i'm so introverted that i really don't talk to anyone irl. it's just the fact that a person might be remotely interested and i'm just completely infatuated with them. really a terrible way of liking someone... just saying from personal experience...
honestly, i'm not sure if true romantic love exists. i used to think that it did, but now i'm kind of on the fence about it. you see, like you said, there's divorce and the SA rates are sky high, though i do believe that there are a whole bunch of other different factors that lead to those things besides love. eg. right time, wrong person or right person, wrong time. then there's toxic relationships and situations where people mistake love for obsession? and ofc there's that whole thing about lust vs love. like did you love the person because they made you happy physically? or did you love the person in their entirety.
in my opinion love (in general) is just a very complex thing. so on the other hand, when it comes to true romantic love, there might be very rare cases where it does exist. in those cases, to me there's a need to really pinpoint and distinguish what is it about the person that you love. and i do believe that true romantic love comes with selfless/ unconditional love, love that comes with the acceptance that you will need to make certain compromises and sacrifices. there's a need to just accept the other, flaws and all. it's not necessarily about pushing their flaws to one side and disregarding them? rather it's taking that those flaws are part of who they are and addressing them when necessary. that kind of love comes with being vulnerable with each other, revealing the aspects of yourself that you are most uncomfortable with. it shows how deep the trust is. it's also about working through whatever comes your way. idk whether this makes sense haha. but yea, that's my opinion of it.
i get you on liking the romcoms and stuff. i do prefer angst (in fact i'm writing angst right now haha) but yea, sometimes all we need is fluffy love stories to drown out whatever angst there is in real life.
ALSO PLEASE. I LOVE DEEP TALKS. you can talk to me anytime you want. 🤭 i'm literally smiling so much rn thank you for thinking of me. it's really easy to talk to you too! i have so many opinions on love honestly... idk... are you peaking into my drafts because i was looking into the 7 types of greek love for a fic...
side note: i absolutely believe in platonic love as well. i think the greek word for it is philia? yea i had a whole conversation about it with my friend the other day... it's about deep genuine connections and love between friends. people always confuse it with eros and stuff but that's a whole other problem.
anyway. YOU'RE ALSO DOING GREAT MY LOVELY 🌱 ANON! ILY!

here are my thoughts and things and whatever translation weirdness I find as I re-read ch 5 of Trigun Maximum vol 6!
(NOTE: I'm reading the Dark Horse [physical] and the Overhaul [online] translations side-by-side)
I remember this chapter gets Heavy, so let's start with something silly - here after the title page:
Tumblr media
(Dark Horse on left, Overhaul on right)
it's not a translation thing, but I had to include a comparison so you can see that it's not, like...weirdness involving image compression or quality or whatever - it rly does say BUNCH GRASS SALOON there, and that just. tickles me. so much. it's so cute! and exotic-sounding, I'd imagine, if you live where anything that's everything that's publically accessible is desert.
Tumblr media
(Dark Horse on top, Overhaul on bottom)
now, getting into the 'meat' of this chapter, we have minor wording differences between translations for this all-important line. both make sense, but given the theme of this chapter (titled "Colorless Expression" in both translations), the Overhaul's wording choice is more fitting. das nuance, babey =u=
oh, another tiny thing that tickles me: when that kid tackles Vash, the Overhaul translates the name of the kid's 'attack' as "Flying Mid-air Crab Pinch" whereas Dark Horse calls it "Flying Volley Crab Pinch" - both very cute!
Tumblr media
(Dark Horse on left, Overhaul on right)
reading the Dark Horse translation, this bit of conversation always confused me - and it's moments like this where the Overhaul's is just. SO helpful. domfock has spoken on some of the translation choices that're made to clarify who's talking, and it looks like the above is one case of that. this happens a couple more times throughout the chapter, and I appreciate each and every one 💕
...oh. that church scene. haha. hellooooo, teenage me's religious trauma;;;;;;,
Tumblr media
FIRST: this bounty hunter's name is Justin, so in my head, he is forever voiced by Justin McElroy goofing around 🤣
SECOND: timeline stuff!!! we now know that this chapter takes place 10 years after Lost July (which happened in the year 0104), making the "current" date sometime in the year 0114 - 1 year after we see Meryl in Trigun Maximum vol 1 (on her birthday in February 0113), and 4 years after Jeneora Rock (which happened in October 0110)!
Tumblr media
SILLY THING: the label on the bottle reads "RED ROCK" - which also happens to be an irl soda company. it was founded in Atlanta a year before Coca-Cola was. also they make yummy grape soda =u=
SAD THING: I didn't get the significance of this part when I first read it as a teenager. I wasn't raised around alcohol - I thought this bit was just Vash being A Silly Lil Guy. reading this as an Adult who only very very very very very rarely chooses to consume An Alcohol, partially bc I know way too many ppl who struggle with substance abuse/addiction (ALCOHOL IS A DRUG)...Vash. 🥺
it goes right along with the "Colorless Expression" thing...
Tumblr media
*wounded animal sounds*
Tumblr media
something about we the readers knowing Vash's power is what did The Thing but that Knives is what triggered itgxxjgxjgjxg
Tumblr media
...oh, Overhaul. I hurt. using "people" thereby implying these townspeople don't even see Vash as a person... (you also gotta wonder - how many of these people were just in that church?) 🥲
then, there's an interesting difference in wording between the two translations after Milly asks Vash (in both translations) "How can you keep smiling like that?"
Tumblr media
"look" VS "do" - it all comes down to nuance.
all Vash is trying to do is keep going... 😭
Tumblr media
this post. just...all of this.
😭😭😭

I really like yr dissertations so ur fine lol i b writing novels as well wen i comment 😭
Yea honestly Kaias book club is good n she has great quesions for her guests n seems passionate about it. With her being so young and just the ignorance she has about nepotism/her priveldge it just makes her seem out of touch. Shes nt as bad as other nepo kids bt it dnt help her that shes moving away from the skill shes good at (modeling) and the thing she seems to want to do (acting), shes nt currently good at. This was the art comment: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ellendurney/kaia-gerber-said-nepotism-isnt-how-art-is-made. i remember ppl clowning her for it cuz she def got a starring role in AHS cuz she auditioned with her mom and her unintentionally calling her acting "art" is just 😬 (n like u said prob due to her being naive she mignt nt even realize her being ignorant). JE n Kaia looked miserable going to that Academy Musuem thing lmao bt they seemed fine IRL most of the time
Welp Kaia learned wat NOT to do after dating Zs ex lmaoo talking about loving that man wen they only lasted a yr.. gurl 🫣. She eems to b a fan of Z now so good for her lol
W/Austin i def agree Kaia seems like a safe choice. Theres a difference between a older woman (or just a woman around his age) who is prob established in her career and mayb wanting the nxt steps in her personal life (marriage or kids) vs a 21 yr old who is still figuring out wat she wants bt has the financial means to hang out with her bf a lot more and prob isnt thinkin bout her future rn. Austin is the best bf Kaias had so far based on how her parents seem to really like him so i think their all relieved in that aspect. i think Austin dsnt like to b single for too long either tbh. i really dnt know how this relationship bout to go lol
Thnx Anon! 🥰
Glad you enjoy my dissertations lol.
Yea Kaia's book club seems great. I've seen a couple of them over the years actually. I'm all for ppl enjoying whatever hobbies make them happy, and reading seems to be an avid hobby of hers.
Her mom Cindy is actually pretty smart. She graduated with honors and had a full scholarship to attend university for Chemical Engineering if I'm not mistaken. So maybe Kaia takes after her mom's intellectual side.🤷🏾‍♀️
But, like you said, she's still very young, naïve, and basically been living in a wealthy, southern CA bubble her whole entire life imo.
Granted, she's had some life experiences that many young women her age have never had, but she's still been pretty sheltered and just comes off as a little out of touch with the "real world" if you ask me.
Again, it's not a huge slight in itself, but more so just a testament to the fact that she was born in wealth, and she's only 21 lol 😅
Tumblr media
I'm sorry Anon lol 😅 I couldn't with this article you linked. See, yet again.... You can tell that she's a sweet girl, but very naïve..... just in MY opinion lol.
I don't think she realizes that her mom doesn't have to call in to beg people to put her on the runway or in films. I don't think she realizes that just by being Rande and Cindy's daughter, she automatically has a leg up just due to her name ONLY.
And ummm.... according to what I've heard... 👀 Supposedly, some hard-working actresses who've come from nothing and have had to WORK their way up, have complained about losing parts to Kaia Gerber, even though they are better actresses. 🥴 Again, sip or spit, but that's just what I've heard. 👀
So yea, some people aren't happy that she's been getting a lot of opportunities (even in the modeling world) just for her name and familial background only.
Re: Austin....
Like I said before, I REALLY don't seem him settling down anytime soon. I'm not getting those vibes from him. I'm sure he loves her and her family, but he seems more focused on his career rn imo. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Plus, they haven't even dated each other for 2 years yet. Idk why some fans are pushing marriage on them, or trying to make it seem like she's "the one".
I personally would not advise someone (especially an ACTOR) who travels a LOT for a living, and works away from home for months out of the year, to go and put a ring on a girl he's barely known not even two years yet. 🥴 Could it happen? Yes. But I wouldn't advise it.
I know he doesn't like to be single for too long (a lot of ppl don't lol 😂), but if he and Kaia do break up one day, my advice to him would be to take a sabbatical and just be SINGLE for a few months lol.
Based on what I saw during the awards season, I'm sure he'd have PLENTY of female options (young AND old! 👀) if he and Kaia were to ever spilt up rofl 🤣 So he doesn't have to worry about not having any options.
Idk how the rlshp will go, but they seem happy, and I can't hate on them. 🤷🏾‍♀️
I don't get the vibe that they're endgame though. Idk why, but as of right now, I'm just not seeing it. Plus, Leo DiCaprio has dated a ton of young, pretty models all his life. If they were really what they're cracked up to be, wouldn't you think he would have married one of those women by now, or at the very least, made one of these models his life partner by now? Leo's longest rlshp has been Gisele Bundchen, and they were together for 5 years. He to this day has not been in a rlshp longer than that. So, obviously, dating models isn't really the endgame for him either! You would think that after all these years, he would try smthg different since the young, 25 year old model thing hasn't been working out lol 😆
Anyway, I just hope Austin is staying smart in his decisions. Kaia's family has always kind of made me give them the side-eye.... Supposedly, female employees from Rande's business have accused him of sexual harassment.... 👀 I remember the days when Kaia looked like she may have had an ED 👀..... The son, Presley, has been giving signs to me that he's been crying out for help for years.... 🥴 They've allowed their daughter to date grown men ever since she was a teenager.... 🥴👀
Idk... part of me wants to tell Austin: "Austin run! Please run.... there's smthg off with this family!!!!" 😬
But hey, it's not my life lol 😆 And who knows? Maybe one day she will be Mrs. Kaia Butler. 🤭

Ooooh, hehe, I want to ask a lot of things because you know, I love your writing with all my heart, but let's start with these! ^_^
😈🛒⛔🙋‍♀️💖🎨🤲💔 and ✨
hiiiii Anna! it's always nice to see you in my ask box!
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
Implying and fade to black soooo many explicit scenes in BW. they weren't in the outline, they don't need to be, but I'm sure some readers die a bit inside whenever a smut scene is implied but not written
🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
Warmth and safety are two themes that I just love to have in all my fics, whether's its angst, fluff, smut, or crack
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?
A smut fic... about Armin and Annie and... you know #angry sex #dom Armin agenda
but I ended up ditching it for the opposite, and wrote that sub!Armin degradation fic
🙋‍♀️ Do any irl people know you write fanfic?
It's better if they think I'm illiterate
💖 What made you start writing?
I've been writing stuff since I first learned how to write, but it was all "original" fiction. I use quotations because I really wouldn't call a trope fest that's 65% Kill Bill Vol 2 plagiarism original. but I was like 10
I jumped ship to fanfic at first because I wanted to share my headcanons and scenarios with randoms online, but stayed because it proved to be an outlet for emotions and expressions of a lot of themes, both in my life and speculative (putting yourself in others' shoes in writing is a super strong tool to generate empathy and compassion)
🎨 How do you feel about fan art of your stories?
One of the most pleasant surprises possible! I've had it happen maybe a couple of times ages ago, but it was for a different and teeny-tiny fandom in a private discord server
🤲 Would you please share a snippet of a wip?
man... you kind of got me. I currently don't have anything actually written beyond notes and outlines 😬
Hope you'll be okay with an excerpt of a BW one shot set between ch17-21ish "Hicth brings Armin back from a meeting/work. They're both drunk, Annie helps him take off his shirt because he's struggling with the buttons, while he's looking at her and calls her pretty."
This WILL be written. someday
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart?
I wanna say the current arc of BW, since I got the most somber while storming it in my head in great detail. But if we're departing, then Of Ice Crystals and Haunting Memories because it's post-canon where stuff aren't looking so well and Annie mental state isn't going in an upwards trajectory with no end in sight
💥 How do you feel about criticism?
It depends I guess? Who am I getting it from? Someone I know and respect their work online or some Intellectual commenting unpromptly on a fic. Also, I wanna bring in the CinemaSins phenomenon into this, because there's a difference between something being bad/not well-made (from a technical standpoint) in a fic vs a style of writing or trope you personally don't like
****
Hope this was good enough!

Episode 10 - Common Ground
I remember how many problems this one caused lmao
All this gawjus lighting for tbb. And in here they have an Indian man who's dressed like britain is still colonizing India and they have an Asian woman with blue eyes who calls the tanks on a crowd of civilians
Omg a model from mandalore
They couldnt even give this dude actual brown eyes what do these people have against brown eyes like what. Why the fuck are they gellow
Avi Singh is just a regular name. This is that thing that white sci Fi writers do where they just supplant living cultures onto sci-fi ppl bc they think it's all exotic enough not to break immersion like they'd never name a guy in here Michael.
Although. In the clone wars there were two characters named Julia and Joseph. They I think had Indian accents.
What is this monocle sticking to
Yeah I can see why this scene would piss people off. This is the difference between like andor writers being inspired by irl politics like Palestine vs these guys just. Not being sensitive? Ig? Like as a series tbb is just very unaware of what time period and social climate it's being released in. Theres to me v little of like a central theme to this so it just feels like they're gliding along and then they remember they're in a tumultuous time period and then they take a sec to talk about it
So they can just walk around in armor
Pls the way wreckers mouth opened
Pls she almost crashed into tech
"she seems fine to me" I went into detail on discord so I'm just gonna. Not say anything
Hm having Thoughts on this
"No" fbsnndksdnkss
These trees look nice
"forget politics we're here to do a job" insane bc it was politics that mutilated echo which is why he's so goddamn mad. Tech is getting on my nerves
I like this droid
PLEASE NOT RHE HEAD SHAKES
I wonder why the heat signature are around the pelvises. Does clone chest armor not transfer heat well?
Ok now they'll use stuns at least
"you and omega--" SEE THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING THIS WITH CROSSHAIR
Pls this droid 😭
The writers really love the word egress
Um. This was violent. For no reason. You couldnt stun this clone? It was the punch and slamming his head into a bunch of shit? No like what was the point of the wall slam???? The writers hate regs atp
"I'm good at strategy" I'm not saying she's not but I'm struggling to remember the evidence for this
Wine cellar
"draconian"
Bald
I love GS-8 sm
Are droid poppers safe to use on people?
Out of all the eps this is one of the better written ones
Live to fight another day :(
Oh cids in a shitty part of town
I'm trying to think of what parallels there might be between omegas and the batchs plots but idk
Hunters so stressed lmao
Pls wreckers shoulder bump

@schtroumpfalunettes I’m just gonna make a new post so as not to bother OP hahaha. Continued from this post;
the other baby Smurfs we see are actually properly interacting with their subject of interest
Nnnnot quite.
Tumblr media
Off the top of my head, Painter doesn’t tend to do abstract art, usually sticking with realism (which is why not just the manner in which he was painting, but also the abstract nature of his art in Lure of the Orb seemed to be part of his uncharacteristic behaviour.) Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong though, but this seems to be an instance of interacting with the interest in a baby way as opposed to how they will when they’re older.
Tumblr media
Handy playing with a baby toy as opposed to building something more complex like he will when he’s older. The others seem to be interacting in a more characteristic way with their interests, but to me it feels rather filtered through the lens of “as a baby” - they’re still figuring it out, and the Brainy depiction felt much the same.
There’s another point I didn’t really mention in my previous reply, and that’s about how the smurfs as depicted here don’t yet seem to be able to speak.
Another point of ambiguity is as follows: how much time passes between Papa putting those glasses on Brainy compared to when we see him flipping through that book? I always assumed the timeframe was very brief, because Papa states he “figured out what he wanted to do in no time at all”. So even if we assume Brainy may have been a fast learner, I always interpreted the scene as “now that Brainy can finally see, he can interact with objects properly, and he finds books in particular interesting” - a timeframe where even if he was a fast learner he wouldn’t have had time to learn how to read since getting the glasses. You could potentially argue that there may have been a bigger timeskip involved from the point the glasses were placed on his head - long enough for him to become adept at reading relatively fast before we go to the next scene and he’s flipping through the book.
But to circle back to “they don’t yet seem to be able to speak”... That’s another key reason I never saw it as Brainy actually reading the book. All of the baby smurfs don’t appear to be verbal yet. Brainy is unable to vocalise what’s wrong which is why Papa had to figure out the sight issues. They’re babies and can’t speak yet. And when we see Brainy flipping through the book, he doesn’t look any different - presumably still at the nonverbal stage.*
Which... IRL there are people who are nonverbal of course, but from the POV of the “average” person’s development, it’s rather out of the ordinary for someone to have the ability to read before they can even speak. It inclines me to think that if he can’t speak, he can’t actually read either.
Because it’s Just A Cartoon, however, I actually do find it entirely plausible that there can be nonverbal babies fully adept at reading... Except this is Brainy Smurf we’re talking about. Being talkative is a core part of his entire Thing! It would seem out of place and almost uncharacteristic to me from that point of view for him to be depicted as being able to read but not able to talk. His inability to shut up is way more pronounced than his love of reading in the show, after all. How many scenes are there of Brainy just quietly reading vs scenes of Brainy talking talking talking? etc. It’s not out of the question that Brainy Smurf could read long before he could talk - it’s an interesting possibility. But if you come at it from the POV of “what did the writers intend, what is the intended depiction of this character here” then I’m not too sure why they would go that route.
*Granted, this calls upon that question of how much of a timeskip there was between scenes. The assumption that he’s still nonverbal in the “reading” scene is just that - an assumption. You could argue that he’d learned to talk in the interim, but... The biggest thing for me is how he’s still depicted the same way, no evidence of being able to speak is shown... It really feels like the scene of them all being nonverbal and the scene of Brainy flipping through the book are inherently “connected” - that Brainy interacting with the book “completes” the picture of the others interacting with their interests from a baby pov while still being nonverbal.
And I still just feel like it would be so easy to dispel these ambiguities if a) a timeframe long enough for Brainy to learn to read and speak actually took place (even if we assume he was a very fast learner) and if b) we are supposed to understand he’s older in the second scene and no longer nonverbal. They could have depicted him as slightly older to show a timeskip and have us understand all that (because reading as a slightly older toddler or something is still impressive), they could have depicted any of the young smurfs at that point in time saying anything, etc. (Maybe it just wasn’t feasible voice actor wise? idk. But I’m left with the very strong impression that Brainy in the second scene still can’t speak).
It makes sense for his character to imagine that he was incredibly advanced and intelligent as a child, and praised for it, but then as they grew up, everysmurf else caught up with him.
This actually makes a lot of sense. And he does seem to have been a bright child! It reminds me of my own hc in that regard that he originally had some basis for bragging when he was younger, but then... Well, he stopped trying to hone his smarts and wrapped himself in more & more delusion, etc etc, essentially just a bunch of interconnected complicated stuff to produce the adult Brainy we all know.
But now I can picture kid Brainy being really precociously intelligent, and Papa affectionately referring to him as “my brainy little smurf” in his response, and the name “Brainy” just kinda stuck from then onwards. That’d be so cute, actually. But then kinda sad to think that they used to refer to him as “brainy” in earnest for him to gain the name... Only for him to get older and constantly shove it in the others’ faces. whoops.
Your POV as a whole in terms of your understanding of Brainy is an interesting one (and does make sense! your explanation was helpful and illuminating for seeing how it can also be a fun way to approach his character) - but I still don’t really agree when you say he’s “more intelligent than the others”, for a lot of different reasons that I want to kind of go into and look at in more depth when I can hopefully do a deeper analysis of his character (I had those plans in the works long before this whole conversation happened btw, I had a couple of connected epiphanies lately that just so happen to equip me with some great tools to analyse the different incarnations of Brainy’s character and the evolution involved, etc etc). But I think there’s a compelling middle ground to explore between our two perspectives as well. And while I have a lot of canon-based reasons for not seeing 80s Brainy as smart to the extent that you do, part of it comes down to personal preference as well - but this post would probably be too lengthy for me to go into all of that here.
Edit: Oh yeah, I also wanted to note that there is some evidence in the show that Brainy is smart, to be fair. Like the fact that he can read some sort of ancient language with no problem (I know this is a thing Somewhere in the series. I just do not for the life of me remember which episode, lol. Would love to find it again). And I have taken this stuff into account to incorporate it into my perspective, but it’s part of why I’ve realised I’ve not given him enough credit in the past and why I really want to do an in-depth analysis of him to try and take into account stuff I may have overlooked!

I think this shitshow with Toshiro stems from the trend of people INSISTING that interpersonal conflict must be a moral failing. Like I think there's something to be said about how people afford so much less patience to people who are autistic in the "wrong" ways, but also Laios and Toshiro just clash on a fundamental level that has nothing to do with that. Hell, you could read Toshiro as autistic as well. People related to Laios' side of the argument but instead of getting any nuance out of it they started projecting their experiences with ableist people onto Toshiro.
AGREE AGREE AGREE. i think that Fandom Brain gets people very used to thinking of conflicts in terms of "who is the bad guy and who is the good guy", so when they encounter a more nuanced conflict they don't really know what to do. i don't think toshiro is a bad person at all, in his conflict with laios he's just exhausted and starving and has been pushed to the limit and from his perspective, laios doesn't even seem that emotionally affected by the situation. i don't think what he said was right and it was pretty cruel, but i don't think he's a villain or deserves to be permanently hated as a character just bc he fucked up this time lol
also yeah you could definitely read him as autistic, and i think that highlights an issue in the autistic community in general bc like....... a lot of autistic people have conflicting needs which can lead to conflict between them/make them unable to stand being around each other. and it's not because either of them are neurotypical or bad people, they're just incompatible. like autistic people who loudly stim vocally and autistic people who meltdown when they have to be around loud noises, for example. it doesn't mean either of them is bad or not autistic, just that they have conflicting needs
i 100% agree with the last part too. i disliked toshiro at first myself bc i had been (and still do ngl) projecting onto laios hard and the conflict they had reminded me of times when people have been mean or angry at me irl for social blunders i've made unintentionally, or when someone i thought liked me/was my friend turned out to actually hate me. it's a common experience for autistic people and that scene resonates with that! but i think it also helps to take a step back from projecting our own traumatic experiences onto the scene and just look at it objectively. laios isn't perfect either and he's the one who actually starts the physical fight by slapping toshiro (i feel like i don't see many people mention this lol). i feel super bad for him in that scene but he's not a perfect victim and has done things wrong himself too
as an autistic person i've also been in situations where i can relate to toshiro too lol, like where someone is overly physically and emotionally familiar with me when we don't know each other well and i've wanted them to back off but haven't been sure how to say it without hurting their feelings. this kind of conflict is far from just being a "neurotypical vs neurodivergent" thing as a lot of people portray it in the fandom
idk i just wish people would think a little more deeply about the scene and put their own emotions and experiences aside to instead consider the conflict with the added context of the individual characters and their respective cultures + the situation they're in. people don't have to like toshiro but i wish they wouldn't paint him as a villain or make up awful shit about him just to justify their feelings when he isn't even that bad of a dude in canon yknow 😑. also we literally see him at rock bottom struggling and freaking out and i think that's important to remember. in a different context i doubt he would have ever said those things to laios

I've been reading up on pluralpedia and I think we are a proxy system and I'm partially a headmate challener(?) Byt not really? There are things I "just know" about some headmates and tend to feel their emotions really strongly. But this still doesn't explain why Shimon and I are basically the same but different, to the extent that sometimes things that happen to me in the headspace also happen to him.
Random things I know about system (for my own notes but you can look too!) I might be missing things or things may change who knows. I still don't know much about us.
I am the only host that has ever been in front. I do have vivid memories of disasociating in grade school, so I know we are traumagencic.
There are at least nine of us counting me. Oliver, Fujioka, Clary, Shimon, Jace, Koko, Kurt and Finn.
I cannot access the inner world at all. I have no idea what it's like back there apart from Clary and Fujioka who has "shown" me their "rooms". Other that that I've never accessed the headspace. However, the others come co-con occasionally and have real time reactions to what's going on. I have been told by them that it also helps that I have such a detailed internal monologue.
I can feel a lot of their emotions so I often have to stop and think whether or not their emotions are me or them. But that's also a bit wonky. It's not always 100% and I do not think all the headmates are aware of this connection? It also took me a long time to tell the difference between things I inatately know about them vs what they tell me. An example being a miscommunication that accured when I noted Clary's sexuality and she got upset and thought I was making assumptions based on her personality or something and Shimon had to explain that I can't sort out what I "just know" from what I've been told.
I know headspace is technically a synonym for inner world but I'm not exactly sure what to call the co-con space. I can see them in the co-con space extremely clearly and this is where we converse when we are co-con. Sometimes I have a very weird partial "avatar" in that space and its used to interact with them but I am still front, I feel through this partial me when the others touch me but do not get phantom feelings of it in the body? Anyway It is all black, sometimes shades of Grey. Kind of like the skyrim loading screen! Shimon is usually leaning up on an invisible ledge as he talks to me. He is there 9/10 even if he is not communicating with me, followed by Clary.
They tend to dissappear into "the back" when they leave this space. It feels like there's a gap between two black walls (that just looks like one sea of black) that they vanish into/appear from behind.
I do not know how many people are in the inner world and I certainly do not know who the "gatekeepers are" but they seem to not want me in the back/not want me to know who's in the back. I've tried asking and don't really get much.
I am aware that at the very least I have more Glee fictives. I asked Kurt if there was anyone he would want to talk to if I saw them and he got mad and said he didn't want to talk to my shitty friends and everyone he needs is in the inner world but did not elaborate.
I do not know who the gatekeepers are. I do not know what the inner world looks like as a whole. I only know that Clary's room is at the institute and that Fujioka spends a lot of time in an exact copy of the library from my irl middle school.
Shimon and I are extremely confconfusing and I also have a version of his source as a kintype. I call him my co-pilot because he is almlst always here. He also is the one who gets most frustrated with being stuck in the back and unable to front. But the connection I have with Shimon is still very confusing. Someone suggested that we might be in a subsystem together. I'm wondering if that's possible. But its also worth noting that all 3 of my headmates from his source are from different sources. (I originally thought Shimon and Clary introverted from the same place, however I am now seeing more clearly that Jace, Clary, and Shimon are from all different spurces. Shimon and Clary being married is unrelated to their source)
To elaborate on Shimon and I's memories. One of us has memories of Luke being a detective as he is in the television show and the other has memories of him owning a bookstore as he does in the books/film and we have no clue at all who's are who's. It's a mystery.
I have a partial theory that he partially split durring a traumatic event when I was in high school and didn't fully split until later though I know this isn't exactly something I've ever heard of. I do not think it follows any structures of plurality, however. I'm not entirely sure how subsystems work. But it kind of feels like we are like this:
Tumblr media
I think Koko might hold some of my autism symptoms. He only uses physical communication and has a very intense draw to cats.
Ollie (Oliver to everyone outside the system + Kurt) for some reason only protects Fujioka. I am not entirely sure why that is. I have reason to believe that Fujioka could be some sort of school trauma holder.
Kurt feels like a prosecutor of some kind. He tends to cause problems on purpose when he shows up. He is very easy to pacify though. He tends to target Fujioka, Ollie and I. He also lashes out at his sourcemates when we watch his source. He likes touch Fujioka (nothing weird, but he likes to dress them up and touch their hair. Fujioka is 100% with this however he does it because it makes Ollie REALLY upset. I have seen Ollie get violent with Kurt before and I've been told by Shimon that it was not that first time after breaking up the fight) he also just likes being mean at times. He insulted Fujioka's looks and insulted me. It seemed at first to be retaliation against me for how I regarded his source counterpart but I get the feeling more that he is pre-dispositioned to be antagonistic towards us. Even after I've pacified him and made up he gets very angry very easily and seems to want to take it out on us or his sourcemates.
Another thing about Kurt is that I believe he appeared in middle school and went to the back sometime durring high school. When he first emerged he thought I was leaving for school soon and age slid when we learned we were older now.
Finn is some kind of caretaker. He's very gentle and tends to shake me from my intrusive thoughts spiral at times.
I have a joke running theory that my gate-keepers are also two specific fictives and I'm starting to question if im correct because they won't way a word. However I have no proof of this. I have considered trying to bait them out but I think that would be cruel.
Update: as I was writing Oliver revealed his room to me as well.
All of the headmates are over 20 years of my age with (Shimon and Clary aging with the body) apart from Fujioka who is 16. The world is very small for him it feels like? Leading me to believe she is a trauma holder. When Kurt came out of the back he changed his age because he didn't want to be a teen. Haruhi stayed the same and... as far as she's concerned so is everyone else? Fujioka refers to Shimon and I as senpai as if we're in school together and they do speak to each other in Japanese. (I no longer speak it, but Fujioka seems a little formal with Shimon) I originally offered to let Fujioka use kun or chan for me and they seemed uncomfortable. I offered san and this left them confused so I stopped pushing the issue. I see no reason to shatter her reality as she does not front.
Fujioka tends to call Ollie "dad" at times and I believe she spends a lot of time in his room or he guards Fujioka's library. He takes his job very seriously. He views attempts to get close to him as a threat to her. Their relationship seems to be a flip flop between bodyguard/asset and father/child. Both these dynamics exist separately but at the same time.
While Fujioka identifies as Aroace I have reason to believe she had feelings for Ootori.

Greetings to Dapper. There is a villain I have for a campaign and I'm looking for ideas on how to introduce her to the story . The villain: a charismatic sorcerer or druid with a very "woke" philosophy and many devoted followers who feel the world has failed them. She selfishly believes in her own power and freedom - If you have the power to do something, why let others stop you? Woe to those who tell her she can't or shouldn't do something. She is rebelling against the kind, just ruling family.
I find it very interesting that you use "woke" to describe what amounts to a "might makes right" philosophy, especially because you bring up how this druid and her followers have been let down by the world, despite the "kindness" and "Justness" of the ruling power.
Sounds to me like you're asking me to create a proxy/punching bag for people you don't agree with politically, especially because in your second message on this topic:
Tumblr media
You describe these followers as " Gleefully Lawless" , and the leader has HATING the royal family for in any way infringing on her ability to do what she wants, and this very much strikes me as someone who's so pro-establishment that they've missed the entire point of what d&d and heroic narratives are about.
To address the IRL politics you're clearly referencing: BLM, Antifa, and so called "woke" policies are not about hating anyone*, they're about opposing systems of power that hurt the many for the benefit of the few, systems so old and ingrained into our society that their oppression can be confused for the status quo. As someone who is clearly pro-system, you should want that system to run as efficiently and equitably as possible, and that means hearing the voices of those who say the system is broken and are showing you clear evidence as to how. The only other option is that you prefer the system remains flawed because it benefits you, even if that benefit is just that you don't have to hear about how other people are suffering.
* Except hating fascists, but we should always bash the fash
Now onto why your request doesn't function from a narrative standpoint: Rebellions don't come from nowhere, they occur because there is a fundamental disconnect been those in power and those they govern, with a critical difference between rebellions of the oppressed vs their oppressor, and one power group upsetting the social order to replace another.
In the scenario you set up, the followers of the druid are having their "natural magic" curtailed, which automatically makes their rebellion against authority justified no matter how nice the political figureheads happen to be. I could believe that a powerful faction might want to cease power from the ruling authority by using "restriction of traditional practices" as a rallying cry, but you've deliberately positioned the druid and her followers as the underdogs. A "might makes right" philosophy like you mentioned is held by those who already have power, not by people who are excluded from power by virtue of their birth.
How does the scenario you presented even end? With the party stomping out the rebellion and proving that the persecution of the druidic group was justified in the first place? No matter how corrupt or angry the Rebel leader might be, your kind royal family still allowed their people's plight to go unaddressed in the first place, meaning that the problem isn't solved by quashing the rebellion, it's just put off in favor of protecting the status quo.
Just because I can, I'm going to write an adventure using your framework but do it properly, so you and anyone who might also write adventures with an uncritical eye can see how much better it is when you educate yourself on the politics you take inspiration from.
To anyone in the comments who might take umbrage with me going off like this, I want to remind you that I'm a queer socialist who's dedicated to decolonizing this hobby every chance I get. There's room at the table for everyone except those with hate in their hearts, and I will pry this game from the hands of bigots and authoritarians with a battleax if I have to.

yknow . people on twt claiming ran n jackie are like cc!beeduo is concerning not just bc. theyre wrong. but also bc that implies any characters played by the ccs are equal to the ccs which not only becomes concerning because it heavily blurs the line between c!beeduo (married and have a child) and cc!beeduo (friends that joke around), but also has like. very unfortunate implications about. how these people manage to engage with the dream smp and similar things by the creators, as well as roleplay content in general?
because see, the fact is is that some characters are more like the ccs than others, and that yes, shipping can be fucked up if the ccs dont consent, because the characters started off based after the ccs relationships and some still keep this aspect (techno and phil for example have a similar dynamic in and out of character), while many others.. dont. they actively play into different dynamics, ones that before certain developments would look kind of fucked up (c!tubbo and c!ranboo have a distinctly different relationship than the ccs, as do c!karlnapity vs the ccs). theres a difference between putting two or more characters with an established purely platonic relationship in a relationship that isnt friendship, and acknowledging that two or more characters are canonically established to be something other than just friends. yes dsmp being the way it is makes this line something that cannot be treaded because of how the ccs traits and personalities can shine through their characters, however.
that is purely because (most of) the characters are actively inspired by the ccs in some way and often share names. otherwise, the dream smp is just a normal roleplay. series connected to it like tftsmp are completely roleplay and very rarely have characters directly inspired by the people playing them. karl, connor, and glatt are the only characters who are from the dream smp storyline. all other characters are simply connected to the world, but may not even be in the same timeline. they are intentionally played to have different personalities, names, stories, and usually appearances differ as well, with them only referencing the dsmp characters/ccs, even their voices are often different! and the thing is, itd be ridiculous to say "these characters are basically just like the ccs" because, well.... ranbob isnt dream, yeah? helga isnt quackity, porkius isnt techno, laggius isnt fundy, geneviene isnt niki, crops isnt corpse husband, so. ran isnt ranboo, and jackie isnt tubbo. simple really.
yes, please do keep creator boundaries in mind when interacting with characters from the dream smp, but when it comes to stuff like tftsmp, thats just.. normal roleplay. it only comes off as concerning to act as if theyre Just Like The CCs, especially, yknow, considering the fact that the episode was about murder? jackies skin is tubbos cogchamp skin and rans name is from ranboo and both of them are voiced by beeduo but.. thats where the similarities end. they have different personalities, jackie flirts with ran and actively shows an attachment to him, ran is, much more aloof than ranboo is, theyre from a completely different time and setting, etc etc. tubbo and ranboo have expressed that the shipping boundary is about irl shipping- and that fictional content is okay as long as it doesnt go too far.
and well.. it concerns me that a simple kiss is enough to be considered Too Far? even pushing aside the general discussion about boundaries, theres one concern in particular that pops out to me. and thats the "theyre minors, so shipping them is wrong" argument. i have many many complicated feelings about this argument, but what i dont like about it is the implication that minors cant be in relationships. theres a difference between putting minors in sexual content, especially young ones (of which is not okay because minors cant consent) and. having two teenagers (one of which is 18 and the other turning 18 soon instory- and again, another reminder that ran and jackie arent beeduo) kiss briefly and not going any further after one flirts with the other throughout the fic and the other starts realizing they care and reciprocate.
queer minors deserve to have representation. queer minors deserve to be acknowledged. the relationship in the fic may be romantic leaning, but is also free to see as queerplatonic, its complicated and not even the main plot of the story, just the plotline that helps get the story to its climax. its a narrative device, which is what relationships in fictional media should be. the point isnt just. shipping two minors (which isnt inherently bad unless theyre either like. little kids, framed in a sexual way when the og content isnt like that, or sends some uncomfortable message in any other way), but it doesnt. really matter that its happening.
and see, its a fictional story inspired by fictional characters from a public roleplay thats vaguely connected to some other public roleplay, and.. people are acting as if its directly connected to two of the people behind the roleplay that the other roleplay is loosely connected to that the characters that the story is inspired by are from is just so. weird because even explaining how this connects to the actors outside of just "theyre the actors" is a goddamn mouthful that cant be as easily simplified into "romantic shipfic of the actors" because it just isnt.
overall its just. truly baffling that people who are fans of a roleplay where the bigass abuse storyline is played by Dream Was Taken Him Goddamn Self as the abuser cant wrap it around their heads that giving more life to practical background characters is in fact Not equal to shipping the ccs. twitter is a hellhole full of brainrot ig
