this is a random comparison lol but something about chimera falin reminds me of moder from the ritual
the most obvious similarity is that they're both human (or at least human-like) torsos stuck on top of completely animalistic quadraped bodies. but i think the main thing that made this similarity click in my brain was how both characters use their hands, and the contrast between their hands and their bodies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in both the ritual and dunmeshi, right before killing someone, both moder and falin are able to touch that person with a kind of gentleness with their human hands
Tumblr media
idk i think there's something inherently uncanny about the ideal of a 6+ legged mammal that can manipulate objects with the dexterity of a human despite being very not human. i'm not sure how to explain it other than that there's a visceral horror to both characters, in that your brain can't really categories them in the way that it would a normal animal. they're Something Else.
both falin and moder seem like brutal mindless animals at points, but then they'll gently touch or hold something and you can tell there's an intelligence there too. even during the fight with falin i feel like you're almost lured into a false sense of security of thinking about her like she's just a monster, but then her human hands come into frame and it's that weird uncanny unexpected feeling that really makes it work.
tldr i think weird monster womanbeasts are pretty awesome

that weird disproportionate look to her is very intentional imo, not to spoil anything for the manga too much but the fact that her upper half is completely out of proportion with her bottom half gets somewhat directly addressed/becomes a plot point later
as cool as Dragon Falin is, I still think her upper body is really weirdly out of proportion with the dragon parts
might be why I never was into centaur creatures
still neat tho

i think the dunmeshi english dub is pretty decent but i have a few Thoughts
1) as much as i love prozd, i feel like an older man's voice would have suited senshi better (like his va in the japanese version)
2) some of the dialogue is funny, but it's very 2020s and they've added in some jokes/lines that are way different to the original, and i feel like it's gonna age about as well as "LOL SO RANDOM XD" humour did (as in not well at all). the line where chilchuck calls laios cringe especially grates on me considering that's not even close to the sentiment of what he was saying originally
3) i think it would have been cool if toshiro could've been voice acted by someone who was a native japanese speaker with english as a second language too. maybe the same for kabru, where he could be voice acted by someone who spoke arabic as their first language or something. and, controversial idea i know, but laios and falin could have european accents although idk exactly from where........... ik this is nitpicky and silly but i just get a bit sick of every character having a generic american accent can't we get some variation in there. canonically all of the characters are from different places so it doesn't rlly make sense for them to all sound exactly the same

Beastkin Lore and Trans-Coded Werewolf compilation cause I am too impatient to wait for the anime.
Also, Laios being Laios called out for it.

do you think Falin's chimerism would affect her lifespan and behaviors? or just her body? maybe she can make more animalistic noises or has vague dragon-like instincts?
that鈥檚 a really good question! I think we could probably figure this out by taking a look at what we know about Falin, what we know about red dragons, whether these things would apply to Falin, and go from there.
The obvious external changes Falin has are: her eyes, her teeth, and her feathers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It鈥檚 hard to pin down what Falin is like! Throughout the duration of the manga, she wasn鈥檛 really a character so much as a plot device. We have almost nothing told from her point of view, and the majority of her unbiased (as in, we鈥檙e seeing her through a neutral lens and not another character鈥檚 perception of her) characterization is from the post-canon omake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even Falin believes that her wanderlust might come from her dragon side, but she's not sure. Personally, I think it鈥檇 make a lot of sense if it kind of does, in the sense that she has 20/20 vision now, haha! For most of her life, she could probably only see clearly within a relatively small sphere surrounding her, and now she can see everything. She can look up and around freely in a way she couldn鈥檛 before. Fuck man, if I had magic lasik I鈥檇 probably go out more too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some other quirks that are really unclear whether it鈥檚 typical for Falin or chimera-influenced:
she enters rooms through windows, sometimes. And given the leaves in her hair, I think it鈥檚 reasonable to assume this is not the first floor 馃拃 But who knows! Maybe that鈥檚 not new for Falin.
She points out that Laios鈥檚 scent could deter monsters. Maybe she has enhanced smell. But again, it isn鈥檛 unreasonable to think this is something she would have said before. (I think even Chilchuck and Izutsumi, whose senses of smell are enhanced, can鈥檛 identify scents well. Kuro, however, can.)
VIOLENCE! But again, we鈥檝e seen her beat shit with her staff before, and she also used to wield a flail. It IS a trait for red dragons to fight any large threat, so if anything, she鈥檚 got even better monster fighting instincts than before. I don't think this would carry over to people. Falin has always been better with people, and I'm personally not a fan of seeing her depicted as territorial or possessive. Marcille is already the possessive one, and didn't need dragon blood to be like that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ultimately, I don't think her dragon traits extend much farther beyond this. Especially when you consider How Little the dragon is represented as in her conscience.
Tumblr media
it's not like it's a 50/50 split. She's like a person with a dragon ratatouille. I don't think she'd be able to make dragon noises. I don't think her body is built for that. I know there's like, a set list of tropey characteristics that are given to almost every non-human character in fiction. and sure that's FINE but they tend not to be especially personalized to the character, and tend to just be an excuse to write them OOC. Like, sure, dragons may have instincts regarding sleep habits, hunting, courting, raising young, etc etc, but so do humans! And we don't compulsively act on every instinctual whim we have. I don't see why it'd be any harder for her new dragon instincts.
If anything, I think she'd feel more affected by the fact that she has part of the demon in her.
Tumblr media
I don't think Falin's in any sort of trouble. All the demon was was a way to communicate with people. Here, it's representing Falin's tether to the infinite realm, to mana itself. The winged lion no longer has the desire to consume anymore because, yknow, Laios has that now. This is very likely why she no longer needs to chant to cast magic.
But what else does this mean for her? She already had unusually high reserves of mana + an innate connection with spirits, but is her mana essentially limitless now? How would that affect her lifespan? I'm leaning towards, it wouldn't really?? But is she immune to mana sickness now? Is it more like her magic is just sort of amplified like it would be in a dungeon?
We can infer that having more mana doesn't increase your lifespan, because-- while elves and gnomes have both naturally high levels of mana and longer lifespans-- dwarves live longer but have lowest levels of mana of all.
So to answer your question! Maybe a little bit?? But I don't think she'd change a whole lot.
