Alright, I'm going to explain this like you're ten, since obviously you missed high-school English class:

The bandits in d&d are fictional, which means they're made up by a DM acting as a writer

To be a good writer, you need to have an idea what motivates the characters in your story because that's what drives your antagonists to oppose your protagonists and vice versa

You have to be pretty motivated to be willing to kill a stranger for money, moreso to assemble a small sports team worth of similarly desperate individuals and attack a well armed group of travellers as part of a basic random encounter.

A good writer might be able to look at their world and come up with a believable reason why these characters they made up have resorted to violence. They might use that information to make the story better later on, relating what seems like a one-off encounter to a greater plotline so it's not just meaningless filler

Because they thought about it for more than three seconds, the DM can design the encounter with the bandits in line with their goals and motivations, and can allow for solutions to the encounter that aren't just violence, meaning they can get more done in that session.

I love this game, which is why I think about it a lot and hold it to atleast a passing standard. Unlike you, who is evidently allergic to thinking in general.

i;m allowed to be a little miffed as an artist that people think ai art is at all comparable to anything i do,

like yeah obviously to anyone who's bought into the hype this sounds like the butthurt whining of a bygone relic, jealous of the new technology making them obsolete or whatever

but like i'm not even *that* good of an artist, i'm alright, i'm passable. but that i can even make something with intent puts me leagues above ai art!

i can draw things that make sense when you look at them up close, i can think about how things are framed, in drawing a comic, i create a narrative sequence of images, each technically working on their own but coming together to be more than the sum of their parts, guiding the reader's eye and attention to form a compositional whole, rather than just "generating" a dozen separate images that all have nothing to do with eachother and stitching them together in photoshop, or putting in "comic page" as a prompt and getting a vague blob that melts together and makes no real sense.

i can make small adjustments if i want, look at this, look at me do something basically no generative art "tool" can do

to do something so small and basic with a prompted image with no layers you'd have to do so much image manipulation of your own you might as well have drawn the entire fucking thing yourself, because it's useless for actually making anything on purpose, because its only real use case is surface level novelty you look at for 2 minutes and then get bored

and like all the effort and knowledge i've put into learning my craft, all of this is nothing to you? you think that typing "big boobs anime woman trending on art station" and getting a denoising algorithm to magic that out of thin air is at all equivalent to anything i do? anything me or any other artist on the planet can do?

like is your taste in everything so shit that you cannot tell the difference between something a human being made on purpose, and endless Content Slop fed directly into your eyeballs, made by an algorithm that was trained on how to imitate what vaguelly looks pretty without being able to understand much of anything because it's a fucking denoising algorithm,

god, ai art is all flash and no substance, if you think this is somehow the next big leap in the art world or whatever, that only tells me you don't have any fucking clue at all what actual artists do, or have any appreciation for their work beyond vapid novelty, and i'm not sure whether to feel insulted that you think so lowly of our work, or feel sorry for you because of how god damn unperceptive you are

I guess my problem with Seinfeld is that it isn't about nothing, it's about a wealthy and powerful businessman who underpaid struggling standup comedians to own the intellectual property rights to their most prized works of art and enriched himself by repackaging them in context so bland and sterile that people thought it was a show about nothing.

I'm glad that his true legacy to the next generation is for creating a children's movie so outlandishly terrible that even children mock its shallow idiocy.

I just started a new play though of ME2. My roommate posited the idea that Reaper tech might have been used to bring Shepard back and that would explain some of the stuff that happens with Shepard. I'm inclined to say no. Where would you fall in that debate?

I have never had a problem with the 3rd game's Vanilla ending and I have never understood the complaints against it other than

I don't think Shepard at any point is indoctrinated. That's very "BuT thAt'S jUst a ThOeRy!!!" because some people would rather come up with bullshit conspiracies as to why they didn't get to be a "gottam hero" at the end of the story so they'd rather just shit all over Shepard and go "oh yeah the ending in the game is not even real it's just a hallucination because er..... Reaper tech.... yeah...."

But to answer the question no, the Illusive Man would not use Reaper tech to restore Shepard because BOTH he and Miranda say they wanted Shepard as unaltered as possible to the point they didn't even want to risk a clone. (although that's like a whole other thing).

Besides you actually SEE Shepard's reconstruction at the start of ME2 and nowhere is there any indication of Reaper tech to any extent.

And if there WAS, then both Miranda and Jacob would be fucked because they were at the Lazarus Facility full time for the 2 year project and would have been exposed to Reaper Tech the whole time.

But they're fine.

So yeah no. the whole "Indoctrination" thing is stupid and I have no respect for it. Even if people DID have a problem with the 3rd game's ending it's still a stupid theory.

It reminds me of "Mother's Basement" on youtube when the Promised Neverland anime was airing and started to become shit, and he went full conspiracy weirdo to explain "no no! The bad parts might actually Indicate some really interesting concepts and ideas and it may be indicating to a whole different reality and universe!!" right up until the last episode where he had a full hour rant on how bad it was.

But yeah nah. There's no evidence or logical reason for the IM to use Reaper tech and Shepard shows no traces, physical or mental, for there to be any, Miranda and Jacob show no signs of being around Reaper Tech for 2 years, and there is never any shown during the reconstruction.

So I was joking around on this post about the lack of alignment in Baldur's gate when a shiver ran down my spine. My badtake senses were tingling, and lo and behold there was this waiting for me in my notifications:

Now this is fascinating because this user obviously has an axe to grind: We were specifically talking about a notoriously clunky and contentious ruleset in d&d that no one really likes, not even the current developers, and this person decided to go off like I was the architect of the modern godless age.

Checking their blog shows we're dealing with someone with some baggage, as what appears to at first be your bog-standard cocktail of conservative cottage-core and LOTR memes gives way to Jordan Peterson clips, antichoice rhetoric, and more than a few posts that veer into Q-Anon nonsense.

What leaks through most however (especially if you're like me and spend a lot of time examining the whys of ideological brainrot) is that despite how much this person wants a peaceful life in the country what they REALLY want is to die for a righteous cause: Their blog name is a biblical reference to mass death and the punishment of the wicked, they're WEIRDLY invested in the final charge of the Rohirrim, and simmering below the pretty pictures of forests and mountains and animals and guns is the sense that the world is an evil place and the only thing that's going to fix it is a cleansing wave of violence.

Normally I wouldn't go so in depth like this but I thought since we were talking about morality systems and where they might lead us it'd be a good idea to get a read on where this criticism is coming from.

Now onto my rebuttal: My desire to see the alignment chart left behind along with other clunky rpg systems like Thac0 has no bearing on my real life stance on morality. You shouldn't NEED a fantasy rolplaying game to tell you that you're objectively good in order to soothe your IRL moral anxieties and you going off like this when I suggested changing something tells me that this is a bit of a safety blanket for you.

The fact that you can't tell the difference between a story with no moral compass and one that allows for diverse opinions on what could be considered "moral" tells me that you're terrified of doing the wrong thing and that makes you easily exploited by people who cloak themselves in righteous authority and call you a good boy for wasting your life in their service. I was like that too once but let me tell you it's far better to question who decides what rightness is than to follow it blindly.

Lastly, on the topic of morality codes in rpgs, I'm not against characters or the stories they're in having morals, I just think it's silly for there to be only nine codified (though extremely contradictory) options for how those morals can be expressed. Why hold onto a system that's too flawed to be useful ?

Fun fact when i was young (7-9) I watched the last avatar live action movie before the animated show and thought it was amazing, I even wanted and waited for a sequel.
