RE the posts about Nancy and Jon just kinda leaving the kids to their own devices; I find it very telling that in season four that despite Steve complaining a number of times about being the babysitter, none of the kids raise any objections to him being the babysitter, despite what it implies about them. It’s Nancy who reminds him “they aren’t babies anymore”.
I used to find that kind of funny, the idea that they might kind of like being babied a bit by Steve (for whom indulging younger kids is still a novelty). And it’s fascinating to me how Mike in particular, despite regarding Steve with utter disdain, feels entitled to Steve’s time and attention. Even *months* after Nancy has broken up with him, and Mike could just follow her lead and not have anything more to do with him, *Mike’s* the one ringing the service bell until Robin shouts for Steve.
The kids are maybe a little bit clingier than we or the characters give them credit for, eh?
(This reading gets really interesting when you consider that out of all the teens/adults, Steve’s probably worked/fought alongside them the most and knows full well what they’re capable of.)
I think Steve being someone the younger teens look up to as both a friend and as a leader is probably key. The age difference between them is enough that it makes a difference in how they look up to him and small enough that they'll be functional equals given a few years, but that they'll still defer to him. They like Steve! I think they like knowing that there's someone older willing to call some of the shots and take the heat y'know? Even if they also want to contribute to the decisions it's nice for them to know he has their backs.
Tbh I think Mike and Steve butt heads for the bit. Like they biker and groan about each other but Steve still thinks of Mike as maybe kind of annoying (as are. All fourteen year olds 🫡) one of his (mildly ungrateful) little friends. Of course it would be Mike ringing the bell repeatedly, he and Mike show friendly affection by being obnoxious motherfuckers to each other.
Sooo correct that what makes it different than Nancy and Jon, was that even though they've all gone through Upside Down stuff, Nancy and Jon went through it together, while Steve went through it, starting in S2, with the young teens. They see him and even though they stop Billy from killing him he saves them (specifically Mike!!) In the tunnels. It sort of establishes Steve as someone they KNOW is going to take charge to help them. They can and have! Mike knows he can rely on Nancy, probably, but he doesn't have the same...proof? I guess? That he does of Steve.
I think it's natural for them, even as they get older, to defer to Steve. He's sort of invincible to them, and they trust him. Does this make sense? They can call their own shots but I think maybe they'll also go "right, Steve?" Even if just in their brains.

i saw someone recently say that they preferred sambucky over stevebucky (either platonic or romantic tbh) because they felt bucky was happier not living under the shadow of his former self? suggesting that he intentionally spent most of him time post winter soldier away from steve because he didn't want to be compared to a former version of himself that he couldn't return to? I'm a big lover of stevebucky so the idea that steve wouldn't be able to stop comparing (even if subconsciously) post-ws bucky to pre-ws bucky made me question the ship slightly? or that bucky was actually happier without steve in the readjustment process bc he could become his own person without preconceived ideas of what he should be like hanging over his head. I've read a few fics about this and i kinda wanted to know what u thought - would steve's knowledge of the old bucky affect their relationship so negatively that bucky would be happier alone/with people unfamiliar with who he was before (sorry for the rambling question)
Thank you lovely for the very interesting ask! I love these kind of hypotheticals!
First and foremost, don't ever let anyone convince you that you're only allowed to ship one pairing. A lot of people DO only ship one ship, and kudos to them, but you are not a bad fan if you want to ship Bucky with multiple people. Heck, I got into Stucky via Sambucky, and uh…anyway, here I am.
The idea that "Bucky stayed away from Steve because he didn't want to be compared to old Bucky" is one of my favourite angsty "loss of innocence" tropes to explore -- because yes, that's going to be one of Bucky's major insecurities after the Winter Soldier. He isn't the same person as before and no matter how hard he tries, he's never going to go back to who he was before.
The absolutely fascinating part, then, is how a fanfic writer decides to address this. So yeah, I can see this as the jumping board for a SamBucky story (or any other non Stucky ship).
But this is also a concept that not only fits in well within the Stucky fanon/narrative, it's also crucial to explore in order to bring the two of them back together. How does Steve accept that Bucky has changed, and how does Bucky come to trust that Steve accepts this changed version of him?
The answer is, for me, this is Steve we're talking about. Steve with all his tenacity and empathy and loyalty. This is Steve who's known Bucky since childhood, who probably knows Bucky better than the current Bucky remembers himself. This is also a Steve has fought one of the bloodiest wars in history. He is young, but he's not naive. The people of his time didn't have the right words for it - but he has seen a lot of mental health issues on the field. He's come out on the other end of the war still believing in the goodness of humans (his "I'm willing to bet I'm not" speech), so I have no doubt he will look at Bucky and see that -- yeah, you've changed, you've had terrible things happen to you for well over half a century, but you are also still the same kind soul that I grew up with, and that kindness is what's most important; I can still see him in you, even if you are different, and I believe you deserve all the love I can give you.
And you know what, there IS canon evidence that Steve believes in Bucky, believes in the goodness that couldn't be burned away with 70 years of brainwashing. Sam saying to Steve - (Bucky) isn't the kind you save and he won't know you - and Steve replying without an ounce of doubt in his voice, "He will." Or Steve going after Bucky to save him from the SIT because "he'd have done the same for me".
I think another crux is that recent gif set - the "I'm following the little guy from Brooklyn" speech. That was a vow - it was Bucky saying "I loved you (platonically/romantically/wte) when you were a poor disabled scruffy kid in the dumps, and I will love you just the same even if you're a buff blue-eyed Adonis." Their story, as always, encircles each other's - it is now Steve's turn to say "I loved you when you were a nerdy protective flirt and I will love you just the same even if you're disabled and scruffy and dealing with horrendous PTSD". I think that vow also highlights just how important Steve was, even at that point, to Bucky, which means…their loyalty will always draw them back to each other. Once Bucky sees Steve has faith in him, he will have faith in himself to rebuild his identity in a way that's true to him.
It really depends on the writer, but most versions I’ve seen in which Steve and Bucky separate (over this issue) write Steve as either obtuse, selfish or emotionally immature…which is not how I read him to be. I think he has the emotional maturity to accept that Bucky will have similarities but will also have stark differences to who he once was...but then, time leaves its mark on everyone it touches, not just Bucky (I kinda touched on that concept on my "Learning to Want" fic *self plug*). It's a rough road and on some days there's going to be more setbacks than progress, and yeah on some days Steve is going to get frustrated and upset and maybe even a little defeatist, but I think both he and Bucky have that tenacious survivor streak in them that will pull them through, especially if they're together.

Older!fruity four cleanses my soul so here are some headcanons:
Steve starts losing his hearing at a young age bc of all the head trauma, so he gets hearing aids relatively young. He’s very self conscious about it and doesn’t like to wear them at first, but Eddie keeps saying how super hot they look on him, which helps a lot.
Robin takes a course in sign language when she is in college. She picks it up very quickly due to her combination of creativity, love of gesturing her arms around while speaking, and natural aptitude for languages. She passes her knowledge on to Steve and the rest of the party, and decides to keep studying to become a sign language interpreter. Steve struggles with it at first, but with time and practice he gets better and it eventually makes his life much easier.
Steve and Robin get platonic-married to each other, and Eddie and Nancy too. Eddie is very resistant about it bc he doesn’t want to conform to the heteronormativity society forces onto them, but he eventually gives in because the others want it so badly. He does make the most ridiculous demands for the wedding so it becomes the most over-the-top weird ceremony you can imagine. (He wanted Steve to wear his Scoops Ahoy uniform to the ceremony but unfortunately he lost that bet which means Eddie himself had to wear a ridiculously extravagant white wedding dress. Steve nearly peed his pants laughing when he first saw a veiled Eddie walk in)
Nancy gets this perfect white suburban mom look which really confuses people who don’t know her, because her personality couldn’t be further from that. Robin thinks it’s hilarious (and hot af)
Robin herself adopts an increasingly butch-y look over the years. She doesn’t dye her hair when she starts going grey and she barely uses any makeup anymore. Nancy loves how soft that makes her look.
Steve goes grey earliest and he gains a lot of weight around his 40th, which Eddie loves. He’s obsessed with Steve’s pillow-soft belly.
Eddie gets a lot of deep wrinkles in his face (and Steve loves tracing his fingers over those lines when they’re lying in bed together). Even after he eventually settles into a quieter lifestyle, he never loses his long hair, though. When he goes grey, he gets compared to Brian May a lot.
The four of them live in a semi-shared house; both pairs have their own spaces (which especially becomes important when Steve and Eddie get loooots of kids while Robin and Nancy prefer to be cool aunts and stay childfree themselves) but they still do a lot of stuff together and love to have dinner together. Steve is by far the best cook. Eddie and Robin are both terrible and nearly burn the house down whenever they try to cook. Nancy’s a decent cook but hates doing it.
Wayne basically adopts all four of them as his own. When he gets old and starts needing some help, Eddie and Steve happily take him in. They can take care of one more person easily, and Eddie is beyond happy to give back to his uncle after everything Wayne has done for him.
Feel free to add some of your own HCs, i am desperate for more tbh

A/N: The start of Bucky and Alpine's adventure in the 40s! I hope you all enjoy, please interact with the post if you do! I am always open to feedback
warnings: canon level descriptions of violence and injury, minor character death, illegal activities (Alpine is lying to everyone), Bucky and Alpine having a rough relationship tbh, Alpine bullies Peggy in the beginning, grieving Alpine is sad
Pimp My... Buzz Wagon? | Masterlist
Tumblr media
Alpine Joins The Howling Commandos
Peggy knew as soon as she met the other Howling Cammandos that they would be a rag-tag group of troublemakers for the SSR
as soon as she saw them in that bar
drunk off their asses and singing like the drunkards they are, not a care in the world
she just knew
so when Steve put together this team and she had gone for her own little investigation and seen there was no medic on said team
she realises that although Steve is courageous, brave, loyal and trust worthy
a good man
he was also a bloody idiot
so, she another little investigation and found a medic for the team
Steve can heal as fast as he likes but he still has teammates with regular healing abilities that may require medical assistance
now Peggy des have a little crush on America's Golden Boy (fucking understatement of the decade) so she's a little particular about the medic she chooses
she wants them to be well read, keeping up to date with all medical advancements that had been happening throughout the war
she wanted them to be quick on their feet and not scared to improvise - lord knows they'd have to do a lot of that with the new weaponry being built by HYDRA
so when she hears of Doctor Andrew Doe, a Korean-American doctor making a name for himself in the front lines by experimenting and sharing his findings with the allied forces
she knows that this is the guy
imagine her surprise when she gets to the bases records show he's supposed to be in to find him gone
she'd managed to get a hold of someone, a young man looking as if he were in a rush but not wanting to be rude to the pretty lady who had ordered him to stand at attention
"Where is Dr Doe, I need to speak with him."
"I'm sorry ma'am, he died a few days ago."
well shit
there goes that plan
"His daughter has taken over his research and then some. Names Miss Alpine Doe. She's young looking, but the document's are legitimate."
oh great
so now her option is a young looking girl who needed her documents checking
just fantastic
how could it get worse?
"How young?"
"Certificate says 18 years ma'am."
a fucking child
brilliant
"Well then. Do you know where she is?"
"Yes ma'am, she was called out to one of the nearby bunkers, they got wound-"
a buzzing interrupts them, the unmistakable sounds of a siren and a vehicle honking as men surrounding them rush to the open area
the truck skids to a halt and the back doors burst open, a young girl climbing out and beginning to pull a stretcher out
"Get me plasma, bandages and morphine. I need as much as we can spare, poor bastard got shot to bits, lucky to be alive right now. Let's get him stable and home to his ma."
surprise was not the word Peggy would use to describe her current emotions, watching this definitely not 18 year old girl work and order the much older men surrounding her
and they listened
"Miss Doe has worked on all of us, ma'am"
it's the young man she'd caught before hand, she turns to look at him and he's got an awestruck look on his face
"Most of us came here wounded, Miss Doe saved most of our lives or at least stabilised us so we could get home to a hospital. She's a fine medic, if that's what you're looking for."
Peggy watches as Alpine and a few of the other men begin to walk back into one of the many tents which held beds for the injured
she can't get far though, before another two trucks come blaring through
perhaps this would be the perfect test
Peggy watches as Alpine assesses her situation, getting a nearby medic to hold the wound she had been previously, running to the first of the trucks
"GSW, left shoulder, straight through."
she turns to the second
"It's bad miss, explosive went off nearby, leg's basically gone."
tutting, she turns back to the tent just as two teams of three come racing out
"Philips, take the first one. Multiple GSW's, three exits. Find the shrapnel, get it out, get him stitched. Taylor, take the second. You,"
She turns to Peggy, a hard look in her eyes
"Get lost or start helping."
the fucking audacity of this kid, does she know who she's talking to
no absolutely not
does she care
fuck no
is Peggy equip to be a medic?
no, but does that mean she'll sit and let men die?
definitely not, so, she shucks off her coat, rolls up her sleeve and let's alpine guide her into help
and boy is that girl fucking bossy
and mean
"Press harder Carter, jesus do you want this man to bleed out?"
"The man's just lost his leg, give him the bloody painkiller!"
"They should make basic first aid a mandatory skill to learn when you become an agent. Oh wait, they do."
"Carter you're not wrapping a Christmas present for gods sake, faster!"
by the end of it, Peggy is pretty sure she's picked the right person for the job
if anyone was going to be giving medical aid to a group of sarcastic, stupidly cheery and sometimes grumpy men then it should be at least someone who could hold their own
so when all is said and done, they'd managed to get the poor man stabilised and Alpine was organising his immediate transfer out of the unit and to an actual hospital, Peggy approaches
"Miss Doe, I have a proposition for you."
"Unless it's to do with shipments of morphine, plasma, bandages, gauzes, tunicates and all the other supplies I've been badgering everyone about, I'm not intrested."
"I'd like to offer you a position in the Howling Commandos. You'll be working with Captain America, Steve Rogers and his team."
Alpine blinks at her
staring
not moving
before she gestures to the space around her
"I've got men dying as we speak and you want me to drop them just to work with a lab rat and his crew?"
"They need a medic, you are the only one qualified enough. I didn't know about your father, I'm sorry for your loss, but please do not let this be a wasted journey."
Alpine's eye twitches
"You helped save a man and it's a wasted journey?"
Peggy sighs and shakes her head, clearly she's approaching this girl wrong
"I'm simply saying- this isn't the opportunity to skip out on, especially for someone like you."
Alpine knows she's speaking of not only her age but also gender
this was the 1940s after all, not exactly the golden era for women in the military
or medical services
"You're incredibly talented. Captain Rogers and his team need someone like that to keep up with their absolute stupidity."
Alpine laughs, signing the papers she'd been working on and handing them to one of her colleagues before looking at Peggy and offering a smile
"I'm sorry Agent Carter. I made a promise to my eldest brother. No working with Captain America. After what happened with the 107th and the other forces, he's been a bit protective - as much as he can from the front lines. I'm afraid I can't go against my promise to him."
Peggy nods but takes a slip of paper and writes the details she'd need to contact her and hands it to her
"Please, if you change your mind before the war is done, don't hesitate to contact this number."
Alpine nods and the two separate, Alpine returning to her work in the bloodied clothing she'd arrived in and Peggy feeling like she needed a bath after helping remove a man's leg and stitch it up again
it's weeks later when Alpine contacts the number, she'd refused to give any details to the receptionist who picked up but instead managed to organise a way to their base in London
to say Peggy was shocked was an understatement
The Howling Commandos had all come into the meeting room for their first debriefing after destroying the first HYDRA base on Steve's list
and the need for a medic had never been more obvious
Dum Dum had a large gash on his arm and had refused to seek medical assistance, instead stating that it was 'just a graze, it'll heal over night'
absolute bullshit
even Bucky had told him to get help but the man refused, Steve had suggested getting it checked out before the briefing, just to get Peggy off their back (to ease her concerns) and again Dum Dum had refused
imagine the absolute rage on Peggy's face
honestly, these men were the reason's she'd found a grey hair that morning she was sure of it
not that she'd ever mention anything to anyone
ever
She was about to order the man to seek help when the door to the briefing room opened to reveal a worn out Alpine
covered in less blood than when Peggy had left her, eyes darkened with loss and large bags settling in her undereye
her hands were dirty, holding tightly onto two letters, and she looked frailer
younger
weaker
"Sorry for the interruption Agent Carter, but she said she had an appointment and insisted-"
"It's quite alright. Miss Doe is a friend."
as she moves closer to the girl, the rest of the men surrounding them take the opportunity to study her
and bucky is in shock
what the hell is a child doing in their briefing room?
seriously, she was what 16? (15 - but he didn't need to know that)
she's there, blood splattered on her sleeves, dirt in her nails and her hair thrown up in a ratty bun
she looked like she came straight from the front lines
but she should have been at home
with her parents
why the hell, was she here?
"I'd like to take you up on your offer, Agent Carter."
Jesus even her fucking voice was a tell-tale sound that she was underaged
and Peggy had made her an offer?
for what?
"I take it your brother changed his mind?"
ah so she had a guardian at least
"My brother died, ma'am."
fuck
"Miss Doe.... I'm sorry."
there's a shared moment of silence for the loss before Alpine is looking up and trying to smile at her
"So, if your offer still stands, I'd like to take it."
Alpine spies Dum Dum's arm and thanks god that she carries a satchel of supplies with her everywhere
she'd sold rations for them and was sure she got some odd looks off of people for it but she didn't care
better safe than sorry
Peggy gives her arm a gentle touch before turning to address the men who had been staring at her, a pissed off Bucky included
"Gentlemen, this is Alpine Doe. A little younger then you're all used to-" bucky scoffs, Steve elbows him "-but a great medic nonetheless! She'll be joining you, no arguments."
her words are final and the rest of the team seem fine with it
they jump up, everyone greeting and shaking her hand
normally she'd love meeting people who weren't screaming in her face, but she can't bring herself to truly enjoy the moment, despite the pleasant smiles and pats on her shoulders
Steve offers his hand and she takes it, smiling at him
"Good to have you. We'll take good care you you, like you will us I'm sure."
Bucky is glaring at all of them
they're all idiots
he knew that but jesus
are they truly THIS stupid?
"Are we ignoring the fact that she's an actual child?"
he didn't realise he spoke
truly
he thought he'd spoken to himself
but it came out
and it came out harsher than what he would have liked it
no stopping now, someone had to stand up for the kid
her brother obviously didn't want her here
"I'm 18, Sergeant Barnes."
"And I'm the King of England."
they stare at each other, glaring really
Bucky can see the tears building in Alpine's eyes
he didn't think he was pushing too much
but then again
SHE'S A CHILD
he doesn't push too hard after seeing the tears, actually takes a minute step to comfort her before she's turning her attention to where Dum Dum had sat, now tending to the gash on his arm
distracting herself from the overwhelming frustration building in her stomach
Bucky turns to Phillips
"You're signing off on a kid working with us? Going into HYDRA bases? With their weapons, what's the use of a medic?"
Phillips sighs and shakes his head, frustrated with the entire situation to be honest
"You're still using regular explosives, regular bullets. They ricochet, debris exists, you get a cold, she's there to keep you healthy and on your feet."
"Now, because she's a medic, she'll be a non-combatant member of the Howling Commandos, the only one."
what
the
fuck
honestly
the world has gone to shit at this point
"So let me get this straight. She's an underaged girl-"
Alpine goes to correct him, but he points an accusatory finger at her that shuts her up because it reminds her of her brother
"-that you've let become a medic in the army and now, you're putting her, unarmed, up against weaponry that quite literally vaporises whoever it hits?"
"She's done it before Sergeant, now one more outburst from you and I'll be forced to take disciplinary action!"
Steve elbows him again and he shuts up
he wants to fight for this girl but can't let Steve go out there alone
he hates the fact that this girl is clearly in over her head
and everyone is just letting her
it reminds him of the Steve he knew before the serum
the one who would stop at nothing to get into the war
the one who faced prison for lying on his enlistment papers
was he truly the only person who saw this all for what it was?
the leading of a lamb to slaughter for their own goddamn advantage
that much was shown when they moved out to their next base after the debrief
Alpine had avoided them all after patching up Dum Dum, whose arm had healed beautifully
she went straight home after the meeting and only saw them all again when they were meeting for the plane back abroad
even then, she kept to herself and refused to speak
Bucky would glance over occasionally from where they sat on the plane, watching her read and re-read the same two letters in her hands which she carried in her pockets when her hands were busy working
Steve had sat next to her, trying to coax her into a gentle conversation but she'd answered with little words and left not room for the conversation to continue
when she wasn't reading the letters or working on someone, she was writing in a little blue journal, with a black journal open and glancing between them both
she'd scribble in the black one occasionally but for the most part, the blue journal was the only one she wrote in
what she was doing Bucky didn't know
but it was clear it was important to her
occasionally the others would tease her, trying to get her to open up
but again, they were being blind to the truth about this girl
she was a child and she was grieving
he could see it in the way she's hold her breath when she read the letters
wiping away unshed tears and pulling at her hair
Bucky sighs, nodding to Steve and making him swap seats with him in the tight aircraft, causing everyone to glance up at them
he settles next to Alpine, nudging her when he sat and played it off like he hadn't noticed
if no one else was going to support her
then he'd have to do it himself

STRANGER THINGS 4 SPOILERS hi! could you do hcs for a scenario that takes place during s4 where steve is with reader and how he would react to nancy’s piqued interest in him. the stancy stuff does not sit well with me this season tbh haha
noooo me neither😭😭 i can always see steve/nancy as like a high school couple but they put sm energy into making her & jonathan a better couple and they make so much more sense than her & steve i stg. i digress.
also low-key the start of these headcanons that give the backstory are FAR too long but i got a bit too into this ngl. this is pretty much spoiler free btw, but it's still tagged <3
ok so it should be said that nancy will always have a special place in steve's heart. you can accept that tbh, because she was his first love and you hold your first high school boyfriend in the same regard
like your mum always said you never forget your first love!! and tbh she was right but there's a difference between the person that made you giddy in senior year and the person that makes you feel whole and complete
for some people, those two might overlap; they might meet the love of their life in high school
however, the man you consider now to be the love of your life is the same man you considered in high school to be an absolute mughead with the stupidest hair you've ever seen
and you were the kid in his science class who gave him evils all the time and couldn't speak to him in a way that wasn't sarcastic
so it's safe to say that you guys didn't fall in love until way after you graduated; it was sort of unexpected and it made no sense at the time but the deeper you fell, the more you realise he might be the only thing that makes sense in this fucking world
steve harrington wasn't an asshole anymore. reality had humbled him, and now he still had all his good traits - the hair, the humour, the stupid smile and goofy aura - but he scooped ice cream for a living
you worked at starcourt too in the unit next door and after your parents moved into the house beside him, he kept driving past you on your way home til he began offering you lifts
after a few weeks of steve driving you home, having deep chats and screaming along to madonna, he asks you out
its not long before you're pretty much convinced you'll spend your life with him. maybe you're young and dumb still but you only ever feel truly at home with him
you know he still sees nancy about. it never bothers you - why would it? steve loves you and nancy & jonathan byers are a well-known couple
1986 is...different though. you & steve are as strong as ever but ongoing events have him closer and closer to nancy, who you know for a fact has been drifting apart from jonathan
you'd never want to assume anything, especially not someone you consider to be a friend.
but she looks at him the same way you do
which is when you're like OH
and yeah steve is a certified dumb ass (the word "himbo" didn't exist in the 80s but steve is a himbo and a himbo is steve) but hell even he can see it too
you don't want to feel insecure: you know that steve loves you but nancy is...nancy. she's pretty and smart and way better at all of this upside down shit than you. she makes it all look naturally
steve brings it up straight away as soon as you're home that night. there's no beating around the bush. he just kinda puts his hands on your shoulders and forces you to look him in the eye
"i know what you're thinking," he says, "but i promise, no matter what, i love you"
it's nice, actually, that he just reassures you without a second thought
bc even though he loved nancy wheeler at one point in his life, he's gonna love you for the rest of it

I had a great idea for an au I just wanted to share.
Picture this:
Vince left his house keys in Tanya's pocket and realizes it half way through his drive home and turns around.
Only to arrive and find Tanya locked out on the balcony and Anthony panicking as he tries to get the door open because it's stuck and the kitchen is starting to catch on fire.
I'm thinking he grabs the hose and kicks the door down to put the fire out before it spreads any further.
Which leads to the Clarkes not dying and Vince getting the respect he deserves.
I just thought of it so I don't have everything figured out yet.
It started out as an older Dennis catching his younger cousin (Steve Harrington, who is younger by 14 years) and his two friends picking on another kid when Dennis was visiting town. Which lead to him knocking him upside the head, calling the three of them shitheads, and making them apologize to the kid.
Then I was like 'wait. How did he get to this point and how does everyone else play into this?'
And it spiraled from there.
Thoughts?
Hey if the Clarke family dies because America took a billion years to adopt the electric jug Anthony wanted a cup of coffee/tea in canon then they can damn well live because Vince can NOT be looked out about now lol
I'm not sure how effective the stated method would be tho, maybe he had a super convenient fire extinguisher in his car, people get those for home use 😅, but regardless I like the idea of Vince becoming a hero, especially when James is his boss and Dennis and Anne are at least suspicious of him(Tanya writes in her journal about how her dad isn't big on her dating someone from his workplace so this would more than put in a good word for him)
Another consideration is distance/location, I don't know American states tbh but I feel like Little Hope and Hawkins aren't very close at all so if it's something you feel like factoring into things then it's worth considering if little hope still collapses from the factory being shut down, maybe the family moves Idk but regardless I love the idea and Dennis would be King to a young Steve(even if the king needs to teach him a lesson from time to time lol)

twirling my hair around my finger, heyyyyyy. so how can i bribe you into sharing all the thought and comments you say you have about meta?
i don't really have any specific questions because ideally i'd want to open up your brain like a book and browse through absolutely everything, so i'm not sure where i should 'aim' so to speak?
is there smg in particular you'd like to share about? an area you want to expand on, because there's more than that's on the page that you'd like to explicitly discuss or just because it's your favorite to talk about?
i'm chin hands, and would be thrilled at every crumb you felt like sending our way queen
oh my GOD the can of worms here you don't know what you're doing I want to talk about METAMORPHOSES all the time always 😭
it's the fic I'm proudest for having said exactly what I wanted it to say without going on tangents the way my other longfic did and it's the fic I'm proudest for having completed both at all and the way I did narratively and I just!!
thanks for humoring me I know my rambling about this fic can get longwinded and annoying but it means the world to get to ramble at all tbh I am also twirling my hair kicking my feet etc super grateful for you, anon 💚💚💚
I've been sitting with this ask all day thinking about what little thing I could go on a self-indulgence about, but instead I just keep adding to the list of topics and giving you nothing so! if you would be so patient as to indulge me, a list in no particular order of things I worked hard on in the writing of that story:
(under the cut because, surprise surprise, I got longwinded again)
a motorcycle as a symbol of independence, meaning it's the thing that carries him to acts of joy but also acts of self-destruction, but also ultimately being something he gets to keep in the long run because relearning he does not have to earn independence and freedom by being good is kind of his whole deal during his healing process. he's human and he's allowed to fuck up and that doesn't mean he gets stripped of the right to potentially fuck up again in the future!
ourboros and cycles and the destruction/recreation-isms of recovery in the way Eddie has to rebuild all but from scratch post-Kas, and that when he relapses and falters the cycle starts over, only this time "from scratch" has a slightly stronger foundation
El. Just El in general and the reasons what she does in this fic is the most in-character thing I've ever written for her I LOVE HER SO MUCH AND I LOVED WRITING HER IN THIS FIC
the collective theme of our young adults as people who don't "turn out" the way they're expected to, who end up following paths that make sense entirely even if they don't look like they do on the surface, particularly for both Steve and Nancy who shirk careers that everyone on the outside perceives as being perfect for them in favor of ones that feel right, even accomplish the same things but in a way that's more natural to them (and also the way this aligns with Eddie's own journey of not being what he looks like on the surface)
MEDUSA. just. yeah. seeing being seen the danger in both the necessity of both the difference between a gift and punishment and so on and so forth
control over one's own physical appearance as grappling with control over literally anything else for both Eddie and El, and the ways they both go from that as a desperate sort of coping mechanism to a calmer and more joyful one
honestly just the formatting of the openings to each chapter and whose voices get bolded versus italicized (specifically later on in the fic) and why because it does change and it is on purpose fjadskl
Steve's pov of when Eddie runs away!!! I almost wrote a whole chapter of this but knew it would fuck up the pacing too much so I held myself back, but I think about his utter panic all the time when he realizes that Eddie is just gone and the last thing Steve did was say something bitchy and slam the door on his way out
Nancy and Eddie's dance lessons as a goofy bit of light-heartedness but also so much more than that
AND I'M GONNA STOP SORRY BUT YOU OPENED THE FLOOD GATES AND I CARE ABOUT THIS UNIVERSE TOO MUCH HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY AND THANK YOU DEARLY FOR ASKING I OWE YOU MY LIFE 💚🐍

loving the grayfic genre for the Psychological Elements also the kind of weird romance/thriller fusion vibes but.
i want to do a fucked up oneshot based off of the what if episode where bucky got partially unbrainwashed in the 80s and then just fucked off. bringing the ‘winter soldier as an alternate personality’ vibes suggested at the end + a healthy dose of ‘seeing the past in the present’ re: bucky latching onto somebody who reminds him of steve + winter soldier interpreting that attachment as handler imprinting of a kind. like… ough
those wires crossed… i need it...
attraction that bucky hasn’t felt in years (and that the asset has never felt!) x the programmed blind faith + subservience that was trained into him to create the winter solider in the first place. I just want him on his knees looking up with big hopeful eyes Please Order Me Around x reader who’s like. terrified of being in control because it’s a lot of responsibility but also because it could change at any moment and he’s kinda Scary. But it brings him a lot of relief and is grounding etc etc and she wants to help more than she’s afraid.
anyway the psychological narrative being the gradual fusion of the asset and pre!WS Bucky into one personality. not with any moralization of merging personalities after a split, just as something that’s inevitably Going To Happen (because it does in canon). I imagine both of them (Bucky and the Soldat) know this is going to happen, and both are scared of it for different reasons. Bucky because that’s a lot of Trauma he’s going to have to face and the Soldat because he’s removed from a lot of his most human instincts and has a pretty immature sense of morality and empathy (like. young child-equivalent. he’s had to basically relearn it from scratch it was tortured out of him guilt makes you hesitate and second-guess and that makes you Bad At Killing) and he’s afraid how it’s going to feel when all that comes back.
that’s all. i need to either stop coming up with AUs or like. Set up some ‘fic adoption’ type deal for ideas I may or may not ever get around to that would be open for anyone to take a crack at if they wanted. Actually that goes for anything I’ve ever posted or written tbh if you see me post smth and your brain goes brrr and wants to do a thing with it. Please do. we can never have too many Things
that’s all. (real)

No, you're so real. Steve literally got the short end of the stick ever since s3 when ST writers decided to dumb him down for the sake of it, and even the fandom ran with it. It's so annoying because for me, s3 Steve feels like such a completely new character, like yeah he looked cute in the sailor costume, but that's it. Him not knowing any movies or just saying dumb things unprompted for laughs is not like how s1/2 Steve acted. It's insane how he's only allowed to feel sad about his love life, but not about his (physical) trauma he has to endure every season. Him getting tortured for jokes will never not sit right with me, especially because we are supposed to feel bad for Hopper in the same breath. And now Eddie, someone we know for less than a year gets everything? We don't even know Steve's parents. I mean I don't care about books bc tbh I feel like they would fuck this up. Like they would probably do something about Stancy while not even diving into any trauma, so I'm okay with that. Honestly, I only trust a few selective people in the fandom with Steve's character. The official writers will never get him like us do. Sorry for this rant, but the book was also kinda my last straw, nothing against Eddie and his stans I know the majority of them aren't happy with it as well.
SAY THAT!!!!!! i do love s3 steve but yeah its whiplash man. in s1 and s2 he’s GOOFY but he has a very serious side to him, too. he jumps into action but still errs on the side of caution. he’s sure of himself and a bit arrogant but also humble and selfless enough to let go of nancy and know when he’s fucked up. s3 steve was just a silly billy (affectionate) and i do like that he was able to pick up on things that robin and dustin missed (like the song in the recording)! but overall his vibe was much goofier than s1 and 2. then we go back to the mainly serious and humble and selfless steve who is just trying to find his way. he’s very much a lover and i think that’s been consistent, but it’s irritating that they kind of summed his character down to nancy simp (aren’t we all) in s4. and it’s not even just a steve issue, it’s an every character issue! there’s so much back and forth it’s almost difficult to get ANY of these characters consistent and right in fanon.
ANYWAY. i really wish they hadn’t lost their way with steve. i wish they kept building on him and we could watch him grow into a young adult that was forced to grow up too fast with absent parents and his trauma. and i wish they’d delve into it more. i like steve being one of those characters that has to stay strong for others, but his scene with robin in s4 could have been a lot more emotional and fleshed out. where are his parents when he comes home fucked up? what does he do when he can’t sleep? why doesn’t he cry, even around people he trusts? there’s so much they could get into. but to be fair i think they sweep a lot of character’s trauma under the rug - which i understand bc narratively they need to focus on more, but i’m a lil tired of the “only hopper, el, and will have dealt with trauma” angle

omg i'm so sorry for the never ending onslaught of asks
but i'm curious to see if you can convert me into a dustin + will shipper with ur headcanons (i'm sure you can ehe <3)
no please!!! i love your asks so don't ever apologize <33 they make my day!
and oh yes thank you so so much for this. i love this ship so so much??? like i was already thinking about them when s2 came out ngl i always thought "if i didn't ship will with mike, he would be really happy dating dustin" but since there's barely any content i never talk about them! (i think i only told my girlfriend about them like once and that's it).
before the headcanons, i would like to say that i love their dynamic. dustin cares so so much about will and will is always so caring with dustin too?? they're also really sassy and i think they'd be a really really sweet but annoying couple and i love that for them tbh.
anyway, headcanons/my thoughts abt their story etc etc this is probably going to be LONG (i'm sorry):
i don't think they had a crush on each other while growing up. in fact, i think will liked mike and dustin knew because dustin is the smartest person in the world. he was aware of the way will looked at mike, and honestly he didn't really care as long as will was happy and okay.
dustin's always been protective of will and cared for him maybe more than he cared for the other two (in another way, perhaps). he looks after him and often gets frustrated when mike is the one taking care of will instead of him (remember the halloween episode when he tried to help him but mike didn't let him? yeah. like that).
he doesn't know he likes will yet, just that he cares about him in a different way and wants him to be happy. he gets internally angry at mike for showing interest in el in s1 because he wants will to be happy. he knows will loves mike so seeing him with el bothered him. but there was also this relief? i would call it? because he thinks that maybe that way he will spend more time with will.
i think dustin fell first and has always been jealous of mike in a way. he doesn't show it much because he knows he doesn't have a chance with will and just accepts it as long as mike doesn't hurt him.
when they started middle school and had to choose their seats in class, he wanted to seat next to will. ofc, mike was the one who actually got to do it, so he settled on sitting in front of him.
he likes will before even realizing, and he just thinks he feels all dizzy and excited around him because they're really close friends. he's so so happy when will comes back from the upside down and often stares at him just to make sure he's real. that he's okay. that's why he likes to casually touch him (pats on the shoulder, hugs...). he just feels at peace being with will because he's so so genuine and dustin just... enjoys that feeling.
he thinks he likes max and- well- dustin does like her, but not in that way. he has this little crush on her but that's all. however, he does realizes he likes will when he starts talking with steve! in s2? steve tells him about nancy and turns out he feels the same for will, because he's really special too. and maybe he is jealous of mike for being able to be with him during all that time in s2. but it's okay, he doesn't care. because he knows mike is helping him and that's all that matters. but damn, steve's right: he's too young to be heartbroken, because it hurts A LOT already.
then mike starts dating el, and it bothers him so much??? like "man, will loves you like crazy and you don't even realize??? and you date her instead of him????? i hate straight people". btw, seeing will staring at mike while he danced with that girl killed his poor soul. nancy helped, though <3
oh, and i don't think he cares about his sexuality much. he likes both boys and girls? cool. he's not going to announce it to the whole world anyway so.
will notices that dustin goes easy on him when they play video games together, and finds it pretty sweet (actually, dustin is just too weak and gets lost looking at will and that's why he only loses when he goes against him)
will sees how dustin often forgets his jacket so he starts giving him his whenever he's cold (dustin isn't even cold he just loves wearing his clothes)
dustin and will pass each other little notes in the middle of class without the teachers noticing. they also play tic tac toe!
they buy comics together! they both try to save money to do it, and dustin sometimes lies about the actual price so will doesn't have to pay as much as him
okay so in s3 he goes to that camp and he meets suzie!!! he likes suzie. he has a crush on suzie. and they start being really close friends! to the point where he tells her about will, and she just nods and says that she also likes both girls and boys. they start dating, and she doesn't mind that he likes will too! suzie is sure that will is great and just wants his dusty-bun to be happy!! caring is sharing besties, fuck the love triangle!
okay so he comes back! aaaand he's really excited to tell them about suzie, but worried about how they're going to react. about how will's going to react. he knows he won't care because he likes mike, but maybe dustin wants him to care a bit. y'know. but dustin still wants them to meet suzie because he loves her a lot too!
that day, will actually stays with dustin for a little while when lumax goes home. dustin tells him about suzie and he tries to focus, but will is just too pretty under the stars and- he just can't handle it. because will looks so peaceful and calm... and he seems a bit upset too, so dustin asks. will tells him that it's nothing, that he's okay. and somehow dustin knows it's because of mike. then will goes home and dustin hears the russians etc etc etc
okay so here is when will catches feelings! after the rain fight that literally breaks his heart, he's obviously upset and angry at both lucas and mike. and i know dustin is busy with steve and robin, but just imagine that this thing with the russians happens before the rain fight. and dustin is riding back home after that and just happens to be close to castle byers! he hears screaming and crying and, well, castle byers being destroyed. so he ends up seeing the whole thing and asks what happened, but will just... hugs him and breaks down crying. obviously dustin comforts him and will tells him what happened, the "it's not my fault you don't like girls" included because will knows that dustin knows he's gay. and dustin is so so furious at mike??? he wants to yell at him and put him in his place for treating will like that. he's also angry at lucas, but, yeah, mike is the one who angers dustin the most. however, will asks him to not do anything because he doesn't want any drama and he just stays there hugging him.
eventually dustin has to go home and asks will if he wants him to come with him, but he just says he wants to be alone there. then everything is the same, except for the fact that will sees dustin in a different way now.
s3 is all the same except for the ending. because will spends those three months before moving away with dustin. they hang out together alone more. they have sleepovers and movie nights. they both talk with suzie at the same time. etc etc etc. and will doesn't forget about mike, but ends up liking dustin too. a lot, actually. and it's kind of as if they both knew there's something between them, but don't do anything about it. they're comfortable around each other like that. they're happy.
but then dustin confesses to will (steve and robin told him to because otherwise he would regret it) on his last day in hawkins, and will kisses him and tells him that he wished he had said something sooner.
so now dustin has two long distance relationships! he's literally one of us pffft
when the others find out they're happy. except mike... who's pretty much jealous about it but can't tell them why
dustin sends will letters constantly, and he's so cheesy. so so so so cheesy. and will finds it endearing, so he keeps them all in a box he painted himself <3 and will sends him drawings and mixtapes and polaroid pictures!!!
will is still in love with mike, and dustin knows. in fact, will tells him about el having a lot of letters from him and all. dustin is already mad at how mike is acting at school, but the way he treats will???? it makes him so angry. however, he doesn't say any of this to will (steve has to deal with that) and always tries to be there for him and support him with his idea of gifting mike a painting!
s4 happens etc etc they hug and kiss and all when will comes back to hawkins!! actually, because he doesn't have a place to stay, he stays with dustin! and he tells him about meeting suzie!! (they definitely talked about how much they love dustin)
will is there to comfort him about eddie :( <3 dustin often has nightmares and will hugs him and runs his fingers through his hair to make him feel better.
this is long and i don't know if i explained it correctly but i hope it worked!!! if you ever want to know more about my hcs about them (this was actually more their story than hcs tbh) just ask me <33
btw i feel bad for mike so he probably starts dating will too after the microwave break-up!! i can totally see dustin and him fighting for will's love and will reconsidering all of his life choices

you're so right. i will never understand the hold rockstar eddie has on ppl. his character immediately becomes insufferable if he's super famous and successful, esp in no upside down aus where he never experiences some form of ego death/being forced to reassess his own bullshit. not to mention he is just not someone who would become uber famous like he does not have the personality to either pull it off or handle it well if he miraculously did imo. steve really screams child star to me tho in an au. plus his entire character arc kind of speaks to him being able to handle fame (ie the fact that steve is a v reflective, adaptive character that was capable of actually changing and improving his behavior even w/o knowing about the upside down originally) and knowing/learning who he should be surrounding himself w. like i firmly believe steve could actually handle being famous in a way eddie could not.
I do enjoy rockstar eddie to a point? it depends I think. Rockstar/musician aus are popular in fandoms of all sorts an I like them sorta...hit or miss? haha.
But you're right that it's become...idk over saturated? And yeah absolutely Eddie's ego death and the shattering of the Munson Docterine is kind of pivotal for his character growth. Like I know the duffers don't think Eddie's problem is that he's stuck in highschool clique mode (They seem to think his flaw is that he's a coward...which is a different meta but his reactions are reasonable to the situations he's thrown in), because they only think "jocks" are the problem there, but he is. Him realizing that actually Steve is pretty cool is the stepping stone to him not hating jocks on principal, and broadening and nuancing his view of people outside his assumptions on who are "Proper" nerds. No- upside down aus, regardless of any other trope in them, often fall flat for me in that aspect, yet always make sure to remind us Steve was a bit of a stuck up dick in highschool (until the beginning of grade 11) and it's tiring to nt see Eddie allowed to be wrong and have that moment of self-betterment.
And yeah, I can maybe see eddie becoming semi-famous session musician (not a musician that is a session musician AND recording/performing artist by themself like Glen Campbell or Marvin Gaye) through a series of events like. Playing one of his hyper specific songs at a small gig, someone in desperate need of a guitarist is there and sees he is incredibly talented as a guitarist, asks him to help as a session musician in like two days, he plays, someone at the studio is like hey. wanna be on-call for us? and eddies like sure. ok. So sometimes he's on hit records but they aren't his. royalties are decent from the amount of work he's done. He's a pinch hitter guitarist, and he's good, so he gets a rep in the industry for that. He doesn't seem like the kind of person that could thrive in the high pressure, has major deadlines, environment that being a famous musician woudl be. I mean a lot of rockstars aren't either and it's not healthy for them? I can see Eddie crashing and burning, which I know a lot of fics cover but I also find it super depressing haha. He would probably be too standoffish and anti-authority and possibly refuse outside input for stuff, so he'd be off putting in the industry. not that musicians are always pleasant to work with but i think you get it.
Child star Steve would be so neat tbh. Look I love famous athlete Steve. but also the allure of him being famous young... Maybe as a little piano prodigy? (I love piano prodigy steve hehe) or an actor? like canon era he could have been a Mousketeer! Maybe he did a couple movies (what if he was in a few cult-classic scifi movies...that the party just so happen to love....but don't pay attention to the name of the child actor in...or maybe he used a stage name?) And then him fading away and living his life a little bit, before he decides to come back into the limelight?
I think that often we forget that Steve's "come-to-jesus" moment happened without the upside down. He talked shit, got hit, and then decided that he owed Jonathan (and Nancy) an apology. No one made him help clean up the grafitti! He had no idea there were monsters he just had a shit 48 hours where he went off the handle and then decided he had been an ass and to fix himself. When he was 16! He'd have made these changes to himself without the Upsidedown. Somehow the party knew his full name, and I love the hc that he won a major game/championship for Hawkins as a junior/sophomore so was a minor town celebrity. These lend to Steve being able to handle the pressure without too major a fallout or a long-term downward spiral of self destruction.
Except (okay operating as like a post-canon thing, because I love canon-divergent aus more than no-upside down aus but could still work?) now he's battle scarred and obviously not the rosy-cheeked boy he was when he was a tween. I'm thinking maybe he goes back in '89? give some time to heal from the upside down and Robin is moving for Uni, he's obviously going with her, so he figures acting would beat dead-end minimum wage jobs. Or at least spice things up in between shifts. Maybe he starts with theatre, and decides to see if there's some screen auditions he could do. Maybe he still has people in the industry who remember working with him (he's a good team player and a natural leader) and they help in slip back in. He does some bit parts, a few semi-recurring characters. Maybe he's even on an episode of Law and Order, and people go hey! That guy who's crying over his dead girlfriend (he's a red herring) is the kid from that 70's scifi movie!
Eventually someone actually offers him a role without him auditioning, and it's a bigger part, a side character but one with lines and even a semi decent arc in a b-list movie. he's a good fit. Charming and handsome, plus there are some intense scenes and on set Steve's proved himself capable of handling most things and supportive of coworkers (actors and crew alike.) Except there's a shirtless scene. While his scarring isn't extensive, it's definitely noticeable and not as easy to cover up as the faint discolouration around his neck. it's hard to explain, and usually movies want flawless skin. He tells them this. They still want him.
So he takes the role. And he has a blast on set. He loves working as a team, and even though days are long, he feels everything sort of...coming together. A feeling that this is what he wants to do. that he was right to get back into acting even though he started so young because of his parents.
He makes lasting friendships with nearly everyone he meets on the set. There's a few child actors, and he tries to give them tips and pointers, and be a role model or support for them. he knows what it's like to be little and surrounded by adults a lot of the time, and feeling pressure to be perfect. (They think he's actually the coolest, even if he's also kinda a doofus.) (there's probably a scene where he picks up on of the kids, and then the rest of them on set want piggy back rides too...)
It's considered his comeback role, despite being a few years after he actually came back. The pressures of fame come back again, but he's older now, and he's killed monsters. He has Robin beside him. A few paps don't scare him. Everything he has to hide (besides his bisexuality...and maybe his shitty relationship with his parents) is covered up by the government anyways. He gets bigger parts, and gets an even bigger rep for being a delightful (if viciously sarcastic) and supportive co-worker, especially if there's kids on set. (child stars of the nineties will look back on working with steve and think he was one of the few adults to get it. to understand how big your emotions are as a kid and how most grown ups [often even/especially their parents] didn't let them actually feel what the were feeling, instead wanting them to be acting all the time, instead of only in front of the camera. How he told them to never let anyone do anything they weren't comfortable with, no matter who it was. How he'd stick up for them, no matter what, and would ask how they were doing throughout shooting. They'll look back on being on set with Steve and remember how even if he called them little shits when they tried to prank him or were goofing off, he said it with a wink and a smile.)
I'd say, (please forgive me) he sort of becomes a (90's era) Tom Cruise kind of actor (before he went on oprah and went viral for jumping on the couch and then only did action movies after that) (also steve doesn't become the face of a cult) Like he does action flicks, but can definitely pull his weight as a dramatic actor. (I realize that I already have a movie star steve au but thats a different era I can have overlapping headcanons for the aus!!) His cute heart-shaped smile and amazing hair entrances audiences. He can make emphatic speeches about justice and also carry at least two children out of a burning building. He has range.
idk steve going from child actor to highschool athlete to monster killer to broke thespian to movie star again entices me!!!

so first off, I’m no good at instant messaging (Bunny knows), so expect pauses while I work through the brain fog (Which was bad pre-covid, but reached impossible levels post-covid)
second making this au of an au bc it clashes imo with the perfect javisteveridrigo triangle that I prefer
THAT SAID, I always picture Rodrigo as the man that’s calm and adapts just as calmly, being more or an irresistible lure for Steve in their arrangement, but his son Ricky (a la ‘Tie me Up’ film) is a wildcard that never loses his obsessions no matter how many institutions clear him, and is just as obsessed with Steve the second he sees him.
Steve’s no doormat, so Rodrigo’s son or not, he’s always punching Ricky down to the floor, but Ricky’s like the terminator, he just gets back up and up again, and he does NOT give Steve boundaries, saying HE’S gonna be the one to marry Steve, and Rodrigo can’t stop it since he’s been happily under arrest via Steve, so Ricky is constantly nosing Steve’s neck and p**sy, breaking into Steve’s house and spooning him (and grinding his morning wood against him  while playing with Steve’s chest),  and look Steve isn’t a doormat, but also look, that is basically another prime cut of Rodrigo being obsessed with him and is 24/7 available, with 24 hour access to horsec*ck that wants to please him, and he hasn’t even grown out his beard yet,  and Steve is already crumbling because there’s just something about a young alpha that’s feral for your p**sy.
Also Ricky has no anger about Javi and Rodrigo because he’s content as long as he thinks Steve is walking down the altar with HIM, and would “share” him with Javi and even Rodrigo tbh (even DP as long as the other one doesn’t come inside; Ricky’s still possessive that any 3way means he gets to cream Steve’s p**sy and any other guy can only knot in Steve’s mouth or backdoor)
(side side au, Ricky might also fit stalking/kidnapping mob son Danny, omg it fits my fantasy tbh, I need to rewatch this film)

regardless of if Will’s affections are returned, I think there is going to be some interesting reactions when he comes out, whether Vecna forces him out or he does it himself. ST takes place in 80s small town Indiana and i think that we will see some hesitancy from some characters, because Robin isn’t closeted because it’s fun it’s because she’s scared of the outcome of coming out to anyone but Steve. but tbh the teen gang is probably going to be the most chill, followed by Joyce
i think Jonathan is going to be fully supportive because like, s1 he gave will reaffirmation that you don’t have to like what everyone likes and there is nothing wrong with being your own person regardless or what people tell you. What an important thing for will to hear as he entered puberty!!! and I think Steve and Robin will obviously be supportive and tbh I could even see Robin telling him she is the same as him and he has someone to look up to and bond with. Not sure about Nancy but she’s gotten very progressive and I love her so. I could just see the party reacting oddly, because they’re young and stupid and it’s the 80s but it wouldn’t last more than even ten minutes before they processed it and were like “oh cool now let’s kill some monsters”

Oh my, the fighting in the OUAT fandom was wild. I stepped in the tags once and saw the most ridiculous fights. Captain Swan was canon at the time and I saw them consistently attacked by other Emma ships and I was like, welp, I'm always down for a non-canon ship but I also have the critical thinking skills to understand what canon means, haha.
That pirate might have been the time I realized I have a very specific type. 😤
I always love a good underdog so I immediately loved Pen, she had my whole heart because she was trying so hard and just kept struggling. I don't think enough people pay attention to just how much some of the things she's done to protect people, even if the methods are maybe not the best, affects her. She's carrying such an immense burden but in a time where women aren't allowed to have the accomplishments she does, she's also got this thing that's hers and hers alone, she's successful because she made it that way, no one else.
They could make me very invested in Eloise's season but I agree, it will probably depend on how this season and next (if Benedict's) goes. It feels like they gave Eloise Colin's jealousy about LW from the books which I think makes more sense for the show, Penelope was doing all of the things Eloise had talked about doing. If Eloise had paid Penelope any real attention in s2 she would have figured it out much more quickly.
Which makes me hope Colin's reaction is more of the protective anger we saw in the books, that man was incensed and scared to death. With how protective Colin already is of her in general, I feel like it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility.
Oh yes, I am not usually one for period stuff but the Polin of it all took me down. I enjoyed s1 as it was. I think s2 was more interesting overall for me but I wasn't really watching for more than Polin and Eloise.
Book Colin was absolutely insane over Penelope physically and I think that would be something that would be a good addition, and having him say what he does about being with others vs her in the books is something that should be included, whether he says it or it's woven throughout the brothel/polin scenes. There needs to be a marked difference in the way he is in them and I think we'll see that. It was obvious with Anthony (I don't remember the s1 scenes tbh ha) so I think that's part of their narrative for the male leads. The way Colin is with her is definitely why we love them, if they could kiss already that would be great.
I get fanon vs canon. I mean I ship Black Widow with Captain America so I totally feel the sting of shipping something you will never see on screen. I live in fan fiction for that. But I would never go after the Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers fans over it. Like it wouldn’t even occur to me to start a fight over it.
The OUAT stuff, well there were so many ships that were canon and fanon that were going after Captain Swan, and I was like…nope I’ll just enjoy the show because damn they were already angsty enough as it was on the show without the outside influence. They didn’t need anyone else saying “What if they don’t end up together” because damn I had no idea if they were going to leave him dead or not towards the end of that and it was painful enough having that last season without Emma around…
But YES, I love the underdog. And back to our beloved ship at hand, Pen that poor girl. I must say that I could give her an award for her brilliant eye rolls and looks of disgust she gives that no one pays attention to. Gotta love her true disgust with society. People truly do discount her, so one can’t blame her for wanting to go after that. I think many people forget how young she is and do not allow the mistakes she has made for her age. To think of the mistakes I had made by age 19. Damn! If no one had forgiven me for those, where would I be.
I feel like Eloise hasn’t paid nearly enough attention to her friend to have not figured out LW sooner OR to have figured out that she’s head over goo goo gaga for her brother. To think that she was writing Colin just to hear about his travels…sure girl.
I will give my right arm to see protective angry Colin. That whole taking her hand into the room and smashing the necklace thing last season leading right into a dance….yeah give me puffed out chest, this is my Pen, Colin, and no one is going to hurt her, terrified that the Queen is going to cut off her head, Colin.
I saw Nic’s comments today about how they didn’t hear them yell cut in the carriage scene, and they kept filming and I’m thinking holy hell when we get to that scene in June I may melt down for how much that scene will kill everyone and no one is going to even remember there were ever other suitors or women that even existed. I think the moment they kiss in episode 2 the entire Polin fandom will be too numb to argue about anything! And if they aren’t I don’t think either of us could help them anyway!

Previous character anon: but the thing is, Steve did everything for others for a very long time. I can understand why some people hated that he went back to the past but TBH, if they weren’t going to kill him, they were going to send him back in time. I fault that as a writing plot device because Chris wasn’t coming back and if they weren’t going to kill Steve they wouldn’t be able to keep him in the present and not have him show up to help. Think about it. Steve’s character never backs down from a fight even when the odds are against him. If they kept him in the present they’d have to continuously explain away “why he’s not around. Why he’s not here helping Bucky and Sam do xyz.” The end result is the same - he won’t be here. Even if you say, “Steves at home on the couch eating pizza while Sam and Bucky are out fighting xyz” it still feels cheapened and shortchanged.
IMHO, the writers should have killed him and done a quick where he’s meeting Peggy in the afterlife. He dies on the field and Sam gets his shield and Sam goes on to lead his legacy for him. That would have made everyone satisfied.
I also disagree with him being selfish because why is it that when he wants to do something for him - have his own life? He is selfish but when other people bounce off to do xyz it’s whatever? And another thing…Steve did too much for Bucky. Bucky needed to find out who he was on his own and he sorta did do that when he broke out of his brainwashing in cap TWS. He just disappeared for years and Steve cannot always be there hanging onto him. Steve did keep trying to look for him but nobody ever wants to mention that. Additionally, Steve had to learn to be on his own without parents or anything - yes he says he had Bucky even when he had nothing but IMHO it’s the Bucky fans who take it way too far and assume Steve has to do 1000% everything for him. When Bucky “died” Steve also thought he died then woke up 70 years later and had to learn how to survive again. He just did it. I hate that people undermine how sad and lonely and lost he must have felt, and just assume he had to adjust quickly and how much he should have accepted the future. You can tell throughout his films he doesn’t fit in. He’s only complacent because he thinks he doesn’t have any other choice. He wanted to die when he went down in the ice and when he was brought back I doubt he wanted that.
To me, it’s unfair. Steve deserved to have his own life and the MCU never gave it to him onscreen. They never went into his family life, deleted all the scenes where he’s struggling to learn in the present, and his old love interest died while he gets assigned a new love interest who is his old interest great niece (wtf marvel??).
Lastly, Peggy. Another plot device. It’s obvious to me in TWS the “husband” Peggy had is supposed to be Steve. They never mention his name and they never show a picture of him. This is a loophole in which they were planning to possibly use to shoehorn Steve in as the husband the whole time. They may not have used it if Steve were to die in endgame. I personally think if he had died it would have been a more succinct closure to his storyline but also sad because he never would have been able to live without a war.
I hope you can understand - this is how I feel because I love the character and I truly feel I understand him and why the MCU writers wrote his story the way they did.
I don’t have anything against Bucky but I don’t like that many Bucky fans feel Steve needs to be there to fill all the voids and exist to only be his support. Steve did that for three movies. Why does he continue to need to sacrifice for him? That’s what I don’t get. When does Bucky return the favor to Steve? All you hear is Steve saying Bucky was there for him when they were young. But it’s all he said, he did. They meet again in the future and their relationship is the same but Bucky spends time recovering in wakanda because Steve gets help from T’challa to help him. Like….when does he get to return this to Steve? I don’t think we ever hear him say thank you for all you’ve done for me Steve.
Sam…this one is where I do agree with you. I always felt the cap trilogy wrote Sam as a best friend character to help steve similar to how Rhodey is a best friend character to Tony. He exists to help and befriend Steve and the storyline doesn’t showcase too much elsewise. In the comics they go way deeper into the mutual friendship but in the movies it’s like ok well Steve is not around to help Sam transition into cap so what was the point? How could you write it so he just disappears and now Sam gotta do it on his own?
But ….if Steve had stayed around in the MCU, ask yourself, would Sam still be cap now? Would they have written that storyline in where Steve steps down from the shield and is nomad or something else while Sam fully takes on the cap mantle?
I just think the movies don’t flesh out certain relationships well and I really don’t think they did Steve justice in the end. They gave him three movies - one where it’s mostly avengers and Tony’s parent issues. We never see Steve go back to BK in modern times. We never see him talk about his family. His upbringing. It annoys me a lot because IMO, he deserved a lot more.
I do agree. Steve would have had to die in order to fully be finished. I blame a lot of this on the writing itself. It seemed a bit lazy honestly. And I think it would have made just as much sense for Steve to have passed more than Tony. I guess Tony made a greater sacrifice because he had a family. Steve was willing and ready to die, but I digress. It could be a cheap ploy to eventually bring them back.
In my opinion, I feel Steve had more connection and care towards Bucky than Peggy. There's a reason why everyone loves Stucky. Bucky and Steve were soulmates, whether you choose to think it is platonic or not. Steve did a lot for Bucky because growing up, Bucky did a lot for him. Steve was returning the favor. That's what friends do.
And let's not forget that Bucky wasn't just frozen on ice. Bucky was tortured. He was brainwashed, and made to kill people. There is a complete difference in Steve and Bucky's mental health. There literally is NO comparison. I'm not even saying that Steve has to do everything with or for Bucky. I'm saying that he went from his side goal being to help Bucky, to leaving him in a literal snap. That's putting the brakes on quick. I don't take Steve not fitting in lightly. In fact I think Steve AND Bucky has some of the more tragic stories in the MCU. They never asked for this life. It was thrust upon them. But please, if we can look at what Steve was going through, consider what Bucky went through as a tortured person as well. Steve wasn't forced to become his worst nightmare.
My issues with Peggy is because of her AND Howard Stark Hydra was able to rebuild right under SHIELD! They were the ones that decided to keep Zola alive. Because they wanted his brain. Because of Zola Hydra was rebuilt. The created the Winter Soldier program, and who was THE Winter Soldier? Bucky. And who knew about this? Steve and Natasha. So yeah, it's a bit of a cheap and low blow to Bucky fans. But if you think about it, also to Steve. You mean to tell me that someone Steve loved so dearly, like Bucky, he would go back in time to one of the people who is the reason he was tortured?? I just don't buy that at all. Steve going back or dying isn't the issue for me. It's going back to Peggy.
So Steve is going to idly sit at home, knowing that Peggy and Howard are keeping Zola alive, all while Zola is rebuilding the very people that torture Bucky. And how many people was Bucky forced to kill?? Including Howard Stark, himself. No. It's lazy writing. It negates all that build up to present day. It was a "sweet" moment, until you think about everything that happened.
I believe Steve should have a life outside of Bucky. But I don't agree with him going back to Peggy. During a time of war as well. No matter where Steve is, there will always be a fight. Honestly, the better way to end his story would have been in death.
Now with Sam, yes, that is a complete disservice. But I think Sam could (depending on the writers) become a better Cap because of that. I loved Sam and Steve's relationship. Sam really helped Steve out. And their stories were similar. Although, Riley did actually pass. So both Sam and Steve blamed themselves for the death of their friends.
Civil War was essentially an Avengers movie. That movie really wasn't even about Steve. Again, I blame a lot of this on the writers.

You said how ever many I wanted sooo
❤️💥🏷️💕💌
🫶🏻
HECK YEAH (i'm working through some writer's block so these asks are helping so much)
❤️What is your favourite line that you've written in a fic?
Oh shit this is so hard actually, because there have been a few!!! There's one line that I keep going back to in my longfic for the last fandom I wrote for, and it's a part where a character has been lying about who he is and has this big Come To Jesus moment and just...
‘Rex Glass’ was a fake name, a fake person, while Juno was so real and beautiful. Nureyev wanted— no, needed Juno to know his name, his purpose for being on Mars. He needed Juno to know him, even if he chose in the end to cast Nureyev aside. He knew, roughly, what it meant for Juno to be in his lap, pulling at his clothes and begging so prettily for more. He didn’t want to fuck Juno while only offering less than half of himself when the detective was giving everything in return. He didn’t want to fuck Juno as Rex glass, he thought with a soft cry when Juno bit his neck again. With a gasp of utter terror, he realized he wanted to make love to Juno Steel as Peter Nureyev, more than anything else in the galaxy. The detective was still working bruises into the skin of his long throat when Nureyev turned his head to whisper, directly into Juno’s ear, “Nureyev.” Juno froze, and Nureyev screwed his eyes tightly shut. “My name is Peter Nureyev.”
There's just!!! His neck is literally bared while he's confessing his deepest, darkest, most tightly held secret. ANYWAY I think about this scene literally all the time when I'm writing literally anything else because I'm so proud of that shit.
💥What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?
I mean... other than the obvious in Stranger Things? Idk, I guess I want to see Steve being taken more seriously by the other characters. Like Robin takes him seriously, and Nancy is starting to, but yeah.
🏷️Is there a tag you like to search for when looking for fanfics to read?
Other than the ship? Generally nah... like unless I'm looking for specific smut? But I'm rarely in a Specific Mood for fics if I'm in a reading mood!
💕What is your favourite fic you've written?
Hmm... this one's tough because like... a lot of my fics I love for different reasons. So I'm gonna discuss all the ones that I think of when you ask me which fics of mine are my favourite!
i could be honest, i could be human - I just think I did a really solid job with characterization and like rereading it right after posting it and I don't hate it? That's a first for me, tbh
and i'm swirling, softly - One of my Juno Steel fics. I really loved delving into the different perspectives of the characters' shared canon trauma!
kiss away young thrills and kills - Another Juno Steel fic. Peter Nureyev character study, my beloved~*~
the bittersweet between my teeth - my Juno Steel longfic. And listen... it would be wild if I wrote a 100k word fanfic and it wasn't one of my favourites of the fics I've written.
💌Is there a favourite trope you like to write?
Oof, I don't know! I don't tend to think about stuff I'm writing in tropes, so I struggle when tagging my fics! I think most of the ships I write end up falling under "idiots in love", does that count?
Thank you so much for your ask!!!!
Send me more Fun Fanfic Author asks!!
