*gently takes your hand* listen LISTEN. I know they're mostly goofs but genuinely no version of The Doctor and Donna hate each other. They're SOULmates not personalitymates. Their dynamic will play out differently with each face but there is never once a lack of mutual love and adoration. As long as The Doctor is The Doctor and Donna Noble is Donna Noble, they are sharing a soul in different bodies, no matter what bodies those might be.

I love RTD's writing, and it was his era that made me fall in love with the show as a kid. When it was announced he was coming back, my reaction was nothing short of ecstasy.
When the rumours began to swirl that we'd be getting a Tennant-centric special with the Doctor regenerating BACK into him, I was very much "please no", but also thinking "surely, RTD wouldn't actually do this. There's NO WAY he'd actually do this".
Then Ncuti Gatwa was announced, amazing, wonderful. He'll be fantastic, no doubt about it.
Then we got the Tennant and Tate 60th announcement. At that point, the cracks began to show. Yes, my favourite companion and one of my favourite Doctors. I was excited, but I was waiting for more. We've already seen David Tennant's Doctor and Donna Noble written by Russell T Davies, and it was great. But for an anniversary special, the things that bring different eras of the show together in celebration of its history... pretty underwhelming.
Then the thing I was dreading most, the Doctor regenerating back into Tennant - something that had been the refuge of obsessives making badly edited fan videos from 2010 onwards - actually happened. And not only that, but he regenerated straight out of Whittaker's outfit into a Tennant-esque one. Ostensibly because RTD didn't want the image of Tennant in Whittaker's outfit to be used to whip up anti-drag or transphobic hate. Despite the fact that 1) Whittaker went out of her way to make her outfit gender neutral, so that all fans would be able to dress up as her Doctor and feel included and 2) surely it's more important to broadcast the message that anyone of any gender can wear any clothes they want, and there's nothing wrong with it?
The initial Tennant/Tate announcement was in May 2022. My initial dissatisfaction was met with responses like "The episodes are ages away, just wait and see". We're fifteen months on, and no further returning characters have been announced. As far as we know, these specials will still be primarily focused on Tennant, Tate and Donna's supporting cast (that said, the one thing in all this I'm happy about is seeing Bernard Cribbins again).
Of course, that doesn't mean there's been no announcements about the episodes at all. Segun Akinola's decided to leave, so we're getting a new composer. That's exciting, I wonder who it'll be? Oh, brilliant, it's Murray Gold. Again. In RTD's own words, "is anyone surprised?". Surprised? No. But fair to say my enthusiasm went from very low to absolute zero.
Gold is great as what he does, but we just had Akinola, an incredibly skilled composer who poured his heart and soul into the show, but was never given a chance by a chunk of the fandom because he tried something different to Gold or just because they didn't like the Chibnall era as a whole. So RTD could've brought in some new talent, with a completely fresh take, but instead chose to bring back yet another person from his era, who did 10 seasons on the show, and the one person the fandom needs to move the fuck on from the most.
So that's a special meant to celebrate 60 years of the show, but specifically focused on one era of it? Coincidentally, the era of the guy writing it?
And for those who dismiss any criticism of this being RTD centric with "But Beep the Meep/The Toymaker!!!", ask yourselves this: If Chibnall stayed on and did the 60th as nothing but a Thirteen and Yaz story, but with Beep/Toymaker, or if Moffat come back and done the same with his characters, would there be anything other than across the board outrage? Classic villains do not an anniversary special make, since we've had them in every season since the revival.
I'm sure the episodes will be genuinely good, and I'll certainly be watching. Any DW is better than no DW, but of all the things they could've done for an anniversary special, this is practically an insult to the show's history.
I'll be patiently waiting for Ncuti Gatwa's era, which looks genuinely new and exciting.
Rant over.

Please I'm so so curious to hear your thoughts on 10/14
Ok so my thoughts on 10 are less than 14 so let’s start with him lol. I have not watched 10, so my hatred of him is more hatred by proxy of how the fandom treats him and proxy of 14, but I still do have a few specific thoughts and this will be long and definitely rambly
A) when talking about him I usually refer to him as Fandom’s Favorite White Boy or Pathetic Wet Cat/Twink mostly because it’s funny but for now I’ll use 10. The most I know about 10 is that he is angsty and in love with rose and besties with Donna… also that he’s pathetic but that’s more vibes
So- my hate of 10 is less tangible than 14 but i still have a few points, the main one being the way i see ppl talk about how he treated Martha and how obsessed with rose he was. I don’t think it’s ever compelling to have someone’s main personality trait be loving someone a whole lot which also honestly is my problem with rose (don’t hate her but don’t care about her)
From what I have seen and heard of 10 it’s rather… boring, honestly? Like it’s mostly clips out of context but for 13 and 15 I saw clips out of context and was like “ok wth is happening? /pos” with 10 it’s more like “wtf?” Also pretty sure his episodes were some of the ones I saw when my parents had the show on that played a part in me swearing the show off so
Ok onto the more tangible hatred of 14. A lot of this, admittedly, is more about the writing and showrunner decisions than 14 but those things by proxy makes me hate him
So- I have a lot of feelings on him quite literally starting from his first appearance in power of the doctor. I am SO PETTY that he doesn’t wear 13’s silly little outfit. Like I have gone on full rants about that fact to my friends and family
I’ve seen something claim that rtd didn’t want 14 to wear her outfit because people might be transphobic and derogatory towards him (even tho Dhawan!master wore it, and it’s pretty gender neutral) but then did nothing about the shit ppl said about ruby’s actor or about ppl who would be a bitch about rose the second being nonbinary(also i remember seeing a post about their deadname being mentioned in an episode? Not totally sure that’s true tho)
The 60th anniversary specials themselves don’t really celebrate Dr who as a whole as much as 10’s run with a few old villains but that’s not really my main issue with that. My main issue with the specials is that the Doctor gets their happy ending. With Donna. And her family. When fucking 3-4 episodes prior, their happy ending would’ve been yaz. It would’ve been staying with yaz. But nope! Donna! Because that’s what 10 would’ve wanted.
And I don’t want 14 to be with yaz, btw, I mean I want them to meet and for yaz to hit him, but I don’t want them to be a thing or like be together because I believe yaz is a lesbian but that’s not the point of this so moving on
I also have very much big issues with the scene where 15 and 14 are (presumably, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the full scene) talking about women they love and mention who I assume to be River and rose but not yaz, who again, they wanted to spend forever with 3-4 episodes prior. It makes the doctor seem like a douchebag even if it’s a writing issue and not a character issue
Also 14 being David tenant overshadows 13’s departure and 15’s arrival and since he is most likely going to show up at least a little bit in s14 he’ll overshadow 15 in his own series. It’s icky at the very least.
There’s something inherently bad about having the fandoms Favorite White Boy be with a contentious casting decision (because I have no faith in the Dr who fandom not to be bigoted) and even if no one has an issue with 15 being black and maybe gay (is he gay? He gives gay vibes) it’s still setting him up for failure by pairing him with 14
Also bigeneration is so fucking dumb and I hate it
Also also stop giving the Dr 19 year old companions it’s getting kinda weird now

Anonymous: Hello! I was wondering if I could request something along the lines of student! Reader and professor! Donna having a one night stand (they both agree that they shouldn't really continue a relationship (despite them both wanting to)) and then later Donna announces that she's pregnant. The reader kinda thinks nothing of it until Donna looks them in the eyes after she is done with the announcement. Then after everyone leaves reader goes up to her and asks if the baby is theirs, Donna starts to break down because she didn't know how to tell them and that she felt guilty about it. Then reader comforts Donna and basically tells her 'i want this' (also sorry if this is like way too much or like out of your comfort zone)
This is a really good prompt. I’ve already written something where Donna is Y/N’s art professor, read that here! But, I left it pretty open-ended so I’m just going to add onto that. Reader, as usual, is gender neutral. Let’s get into it!
The date you had gone on with Donna with was… Magical. She is so sophisticated, but also very sweet. She’s everything you’ve ever wanted. That night was also quite… Steamy. You couldn’t help your attraction to her. You made the first move and gave her a quick kiss.
Donna kissed you back.
Your chemistry was undeniable.
The next morning, however, you could tell Donna was upset. You leaned over to kiss her in bed. As you got a better look at her face, you discover that she had been crying.
“Y/N… I can’t do this. You’re my student.” She says sadly. Honestly, she knows she is really just pushing you away because she’s scared. She likes you and could see herself falling for you… She’s never felt like this before.
Your heart is… Crushed. You’re already catching feelings. You beg her to change her mind, but she just tearfully asks you to leave.
Seeing Donna now is too painful. Even just catching a glimpse of her from across the quad is excruciating. You want her and it sucks that you can’t have her. You thought about transferring out of her class, but it’s too late in the semester. You decide to keep things as brief as possible in your art class with her. No pleasantries, no smiles… You also sit in the very back of the classroom now. You know that if you open yourself up at all to her, you’re just going to pathetically ask her to take you back and make a fool of yourself.
You need to just fucking graduate and get out of this school. You’re in the first half of your senior year, so you only have one more semester and you are done. You can do this. You just have to wait it out.
Unfortunately, by the time class registration rolls around… You still need a humanities course to graduate and the only available class is with… Donna. Fuck. This is gonna hurt.
Meanwhile, Donna is dealing with her own problems. In addition to being heartbroken about you, there’s been a completely earth-shattering revelation that’s come up. Not long after you two had spent the night together, Donna begins feeling incredibly exhausted… She’s sluggish and sick almost all the time. It’s all she can do to get up in the morning and spend time with Angie before she leaves for work. Finally, Donna decides to see her doctor and the diagnosis is… Life-changing. She’s pregnant. With your baby… She should have realized her symptoms sooner. She was pretty much always sick when she was pregnant with Angie.
She hates how happy she becomes when she thinks about having your baby. It… Tickles her, actually. She really does love you (Made a lot more apparent by your time apart from each other). But, she feels guilty. She doesn’t want to tie you down with a baby if that’s not what you want. You’re just about to graduate. You have your whole life ahead of you.
Initially, Donna decides that she won’t tell you. After all, what are the chances of you two bumping into each other on campus? But… Then she discovers that you’re taking another one of her classes. You either enjoy getting in her head… Or this is just a necessary evil for you to graduate. She can’t tell which reason she would hate the most. After agonizing over what to do, Donna comes to realize that she can’t possibly teach you three days a week without telling you that she’s having your baby.
——————————————————————————
After winter break, you are nervous. You saunter into your first class back with Donna and decide to sit in the back, as has become routine. You’re relieved she’s not here yet. It would be torment to be alone with her knowing how lovesick you are. More students flood in and you find out that you have some friends who are taking this course as well. You happily chat with them and goof off a bit before class starts. You’re thankful for the distraction.
Finally, class starts. It’s uncomfortable for you both, but it (Eventually) ends. Donna highlights the syllabus and points out notable dates. However, before she dismisses her students, she informs them that she will be taking maternity leave later in the semester and that a substitute will take over at that time. She gives you a pointed stare as she announces this.
Your eyes go wide in panic.
Donna can see the terror on your face. She knows first-hand how startling such a realization can be. She almost starts laughing sympathetically at your understandable reaction, but she chooses to keep a more neutral expression.
You wait for everyone else to file out of the room before you go up to her. Your knees are weak as you approach her. What if it is yours? That would… Be pretty great. You don’t want to make assumptions, though. Maybe she met somebody. Dammit. That thought makes your blood boil. You couldn’t take it if that’s the case.
As you get closer to Donna, you find that just being near her is making you feel better. It’s like you’ve been stranded in a desert with no food or water and happened upon an oasis. You’ve missed her greatly. As you take in the sight of Donna… You can see that her cheeks bear a healthy glow. Her hair is so shiny right now, too. Everything about her is radiant. Motherly… This suits her. Your eyes can’t help but look down at her tummy. Now that you’re focusing on it, you can see a small bump. Fuck… This is definitely for real.
Donna bites her lower lip and clasps her hands nervously which draws you out of your staring. What will you say? She braces herself for screaming and yelling.
After keeping your walls up for so long… You wrap your arms around her. Whether or not this baby is yours… You can’t imagine your life without her. You’re praying she will reconsider a relationship with you.
Donna gasps at your affection. She buries her face in your shoulder, feeling safe. She’s never felt more secure, truthfully.
You pull back and look her in the eyes. “Donna…” You say and brush a lock of her hair back.
Donna can see the unspoken question on your face. She nods wordlessly at you, hoping you won’t be upset.
At Donna’s confirmation, your face breaks into a wide grin. “You’re… Having my baby?” You ask quietly. Hoping you understood correctly.
Donna can’t help but giggle at how excited you look. “Yes, Y/N.” She says. “But, I don’t expect you to-”
You immediately hold her closer. “A baby?! Wow!” You exclaim as your brain processes this news.
You are so joyful. Donna… Wasn’t expecting this. Do you… Want this? With her?
You carefully bring Donna in for a kiss. What a great gift she’s given you. “Please, Donna. I… Love you. I want to be in this baby’s life… I want you more than anything.” You plead.
Tears well up in Donna’s eyes. Your request is so pure. You truly love her and want to take this huge leap of faith with her. She kisses you once again. “Y/N… Cara mia. Are you sure?” She asks you, placing your hand on her stomach. “This is… A big decision.” She tells you.
You rub her tummy and smile back at her. “This is what I want. I love you, Donna. I need you.” You answer. Life without Donna is simply not an option. You will do anything in your power to be with her.
Donna gives you a breathtaking smile before adopting a mischievous smirk. “I hope you understand that your grades will be affected by my ever-changing moods and cravings.” She jokes. “That’s your own fault.” She teases.
You laugh. “Well, I hope I might be able to sway your decisions with lots of food runs. I’ll get you anything you crave, Professor.” You tell her with a wink.
Donna giggles back. “I just might have to take that into consideration.” She says with a smile. “In fact, you could get some extra credit right now if you take me to lunch.” She says, quirking an eyebrow.
“Fuck yeah! I’m down!” You cheer.
Donna tuts playfully at you. “Y/N, watch your language in front of our little one.” She scolds and cradles her stomach.
Your heart flutters at hearing Donna say “Our little one”. You and Donna did this together. It feels… Perfect.
Note: That was a fun prompt to write! I hope you enjoyed!

I’ve slept on it heres the morning thoughts:
There was literally no point in having 14 regenerate in new clothes? The doctor being in the predecessors clothes is such a staple and Jodie deliberately chose a gender neutral outfit so I don’t get what the point of that was
I don’t care and have never cared about doctor who lore, it’s a 60 year old show, I will accept anything, so that’s not what bothers me about bigeneration
What bothers me is Ncuti not getting his chance to have a regeneration moment on his own and 14 (David Tennant) being treated as the golden child of doctor who
I love David Tennant, this isn’t a diss and I would have had no qualms with him popping back up in the 70th, 80th, 100th anniversary etc. but it really cheapens his original goodbye
I really wish they’d done a proper 3 episode story arc, everything felt rushed
Please why are we MCU-ing Doctor Who, wtf is there is a Unit tower and RTD saying ‘doctorverse’ I hate it so much
I didn’t watch much of 13s era but it seemed a shame not to mention Yaz when literally half of unit goes to her doctor support group
Was that a micro aggression from Donna? Felt like it and I wasn’t a fan of that
Some of the ways they talked about trans stuff did feel cringe and there was absolutely no need for the deadnaming but it felt like your family who don’t quite get it but still trying their hardest to get it right so I’ll give them a pass, clearly their hearts in the right place
I miss consequences! Let Doctor Who be sad again!

*TW PERIOD MENTION*
If you're comfortable with this, could you do some hcs for the lords (but mainly moreau) with an s/o who gets HORRIBLE period cramps? Like they're literally writhing in pain and even after they take pain meds it's still miserable. Only do this if you feel comfortable of course, I totally understand if you dont want to do it❤
Hi, sorry folks, I bumped this to the top of the list, cuz I don't know if it's time sensitive for you, hope it brings comfort❤️ (Moreau's will have some extra)
TW: Period Mention, Reader is still Gender Neutral
Alcina Dimitrescu
Ah, she remembers those. She hasn't had to deal with one in a long while, due to her mutation, but even for her the experience was not pleasant.
This, however, looks very different.
Alcina cannot imagine the pain you must be in. You are curled into yourself on the couch, humming in an attempt to distract yourself from the pain, and you might try to hide them but she can see the tear tracks on your face.
Alcina takes care of you. Any of her day to day tasks can and will wait-- you are far more important. She doesn't leave the room unless you ask her to, and the Maids aren't let into the room unless it is to bring HER the things she needs to take care of you.
She will do whatever you need from her, no question. Cuddles, heated blankets, she will even read aloud to you as a distraction. Pro tip--her hands can get pretty chilly, and if you're someone who does well with ice packs, her hands work 100% better to cool off your skin.
Don't worry about her loosing control at the smell of blood--you are obviously in pain and she has far too much self control to let a little bit of blood bother her. (But depending on how hungry her daughters are, they might not be let in the room unless they have fed recently)
She will also use her contact with the Duke to find you a proper doctor. It's not normal for you to be in this much pain. Dearest, it doesn't matter if someone else has said there's nothing more to be done-- she's getting you a competent Doctor to get a second opinion.
Donna Beneviento
Donna is panicking.
Lady Beneviento is stressed the hell out by seeing you in pain--she hates it. You're lying in a pile of blankets on the floor, unable to be even the slightest bit comfortable because of the pain, and in such obvious agony that your hands are shaking.
Still, she's more than ready to make you feel better. Other than pain pills and more traditional treatment, Donna firmly believes in the power of distraction.
She will use books, movies, heck with your permission she might even use the pollen to craft a hallucination for you to help take the pain away.
(Ethan's encounter with the demon fetus was able to cause him enough harm that he felt it, Donna would definitely try to see if she could use her powers to trick your brain into not feeling as much pain)
She will also be attached to you at the hip, if you need space or can't be touched during your period, you need to tell her up front. She'll be very clingy when you are this miserable.
A little self indulgence here: while Donna does like her tea, she makes a KILLER hot chocolate. If chocolate brings you joy during your period, she has a constant, steady supply of it sent up to your room.
Salvatore Moreau
Salvatore engages Doctor mode immediately. For you to be in this much pain is both not normal and completely unacceptable. He's going to do his best to help.
This man absolutely used to be the Village doctor before his mutation, and as a result does Know His Shit. His siblings and mother may infantilize him to a certain degree, but that is mainly because Moreau's main issues are short term memory problems and his obsessive devotion to Mother Miranda that can make him regress. He's still competent as a doctor, and if he needs to reference anything, he still has some copies of medical textbooks.
He was also a Small Town Doctor, meaning he knows how to treat pain without access to traditional medicine, since often times he didn't have access to it.
It doesn't matter if you're not a tea person, you're still getting tea, made with herbs you don't know the name of and couldn't pronounce even if you did.
He doubles this up with more traditional pain relief methods like extra strength ibuprofen and heated compresses on the area. He might even talk you into doing a few exercises--it can help a lot with pain relief.
Still, when he's caring for you, sometimes he has to leave the room. He uses getting you a glass of water or another blanket as an excuse, but it's really so he can take a deep breath and center himself. Moreau is an empathetic man who loves you to pieces, and watching you cry silently into a pillow just...hurts.
Salvatore also does his best to distract you with anything he has on hand, mostly movies. While you two might normally playfully argue about which ones to watch, he will absolutely defer to you. I would recommend taking this time to watch a scary movie if you're a horror fan, there's literally no other time where Moreau would let you get away with it.
He is at your side constantly, and will only give you space if you ask for it. Even then, he will pop back in every few hours to check in.
Now for Fluff stuff: If you're not careful and watch him like he watches you, Moreau will run himself ragged trying to keep you comfortable.
The best solution to preventing this is coaxing him into bed with you. He might let out a couple of token protests, but one look at your pleading face takes all the fight right out of him.
He will cuddle up to you as close as possible and rub little circles into your back or stomach, whatever feels best. If you two are face to face, you can start to feel yourself relax in time with his breathing, and both of you slowly drift off to sleep together.
It's the best you've felt in days ❤️
Karl Heisenberg
Magnet Man is just... So lost...
You are writhing in agony in your bed, sobbing into a pillow, and so obviously suffering. He HATES to see you like this, because you're hurting and he doesn't know how to fix it.
Karl wants to hurt the things that hurt you, but when it's your own body rebelling against you and causing you pain...He wants to make it better for you but he can't.
He swallowed his pride IMMEDIATELY and called Moreau to the factory. Heisenberg might consider The Lord of the Reservoir to be a little slow in the head, but he used to be a doctor, and Karl is taking zero chances with your health.
He also pops by the Duke to pick up any kind of pain relief possible--Karl literally brings back 8 different brands of acetaminophen, hot water bottles, cocaine, opium, and enough alcohol to give an elephant a blackout. (Maybe he can get you to pass out long enough that you'll sleep through the worst of it?)
You will have to ask directly for cuddles if you want them--as handsy and clingy as Heisenberg is, he is so Bad At Feelings that he will just hover in the corner and work on projects to keep his hands busy. He doesn't know if you want to be touched, and is afraid to ask...but he really wants to keep an eye on you anyway.

Hey! I just came across your blog and I absolutely love the way you write about a disability, so I figured I’d ask if you could write mine. Could you please do a gender neutral reader with moderate-ish Tourette’s Syndrome and how the lords react with it? Thank you so much for writing these things well :))
Thank you as well! I was just happy to do the prompt, it's cool to see that people liked it and thought I did well :D I hope this one delivers on it too.
Like before, I've had to do research since I don't have experience with Tourette's syndrome. If anyone would like to provide some constructive criticism on how I've done this -- especially you, friendly anon -- or point something out that may be wrong, then feel free to do so.
(CW for misunderstandings and misconceptions about Tourette's syndrome made by the lords, but some of them eventually learn.)
Alcina Dimitrescu
Alcina has met all sorts of people during her lifetime, so she may have known some who have or had these kinds of uncontrollable tics before. When you meet her and she becomes aware of them, you can give her the name for it and she'd say "Oh, so that's what it's called."
Also, if you were ever worried about coming off as weird for it? Don't be. Not only does she not consider things or people to be "weird" anymore (who's normal these days anyway? What is normal?), remember that she's a nine foot tall vampiric woman who has been alive for more than century. Nothing is normal.
Your tics don't really bother her, even in a public setting where you might worry about being embarrassing. If they do, she doesn't make it obvious. You may have to explain to her beforehand what causes them though, so she has a better understanding of why they happen. Nonetheless, she's quite patient.
If your tics cause you to have a hard time sleeping, she'll be right there to soothe you and get you back in bed. She understands that these things just happen but you both need your rest -- mind and body. Hopefully, some cuddling with your big lady love can help you wind down.
It goes without saying that anyone who gives you a hard time about your condition will be on the Lady's bad side from then on. It will start with an icy glare and a few choice words, and could possibly end with a trip to the wine cellar. It all depends on her mood, and your willingness to forgive.
Donna Beneviento
Donna thought she understood what it was like to be around someone who had no filter (*ehem Angie ehem Karl*) but she didn't realize how different it was with someone who genuinely couldn't control those things.
She may have heard of Tourette's before, maybe in a book she read or something mentioned offhandedly. Nonetheless, her curiosity lets her not just try to do her own research, but also ask you more about it. Who better to learn from than someone with experience?
She is very observant, so she'll keep in mind what could trigger your tics. Are you doing it because you're stressed? Are you sad or angry? Perhaps you're excited about something? When she finds out, she'll act accordingly, either to provide comfort, or be happy with you!
She would never stop you from acting on your tics, knowing that it would be hard for you to do so and would bring more relief to just let you do it. She might be too forgiving though, even if the tics can be intrusive or offensive (still beyond your control) so you have to assure her that she can tell you if they end up bothering her.
Anyone who tries to mock you is automatically getting attacked by Angie, no exceptions. Little doll's feral too, so even if the bully apologizes incessantly, she won't stop until she's satisfied. Might as well sit back and enjoy the impromptu show.
Salvatore Moreau
Salvatore was implied to be a former doctor before his Cadou transformation, so he may be familiar with Tourette's and what that entails. He'll have to do more reading, since he didn't frequently encounter neurological disorders like this.
He's rather slow though, especially in his current condition, so you'll have to be patient with him when he can't understand what or why you're doing something sometimes. It'll take a lot of repetition for him to not just get used to it, but also remember it.
Very understanding and patient, especially when you tell him more about your triggers. He'll try to minimize your exposure to stressors, not only for your tics, but also because he would hate to see you upset or frustrated.
Like with Alcina, he won't see or treat you any differently than before he found out about it -- he'll just have learned more about you, and that's great!
He knows how it feels to be on the receiving end of both scrutiny and pity, and he would hate to see you go through that too. So not only is he going to be protective, but also tell people off if they were treating you too differently from anyone else. You're still a person, so what if you're a little different?
Karl Heisenberg
At first, he may not fully understand why you're doing these things. It's not that your tics were annoying to him specifically, but if they were to you, then can't you just... stop? (He gets told to stop doing things he wants to do all the time.)
But when you explain why you can't stop, and that it's not something that easy to control, he starts to get it a little more. When you give him a name for your condition, he tries to research more about it.
Both of you need to give each other time to get used to the other -- Karl may not be as patient as the other lords, especially in the beginning, but he will get used to it eventually. He has to accept that this is part of you, and if he really cares about you (believe me, he does) then he would have to be more forgiving.
He's the type to laugh along about some of the situations you get yourself into because of your tics. You got a motor tic that got you in trouble, but you've got a humor about it? That's quite endearing to him.
If anyone bullies you for your tics and he finds out, they're getting thrown down with Sturm. Maybe add a couple lycans to the mix for entertainment value. Karl loves a good show, after all.

Also, I wanted to add more like include adventures and develop the readers and the Doctors relationship but it was already too long. Thinking about writing a part 2 but I also have a few other fics I wanna write soo…
Word count: 5070
Soulmate. Someone who understands, believes in, and inspires you. Someone once a stranger becomes a person you can’t imagine live without.
As children, a soulmate’s presence isn’t all there. A numbness resides in the Soullux, the organ that handles feeling one’s soulmate. In childhood, it isn’t mature enough to project one’s soulmate emotions. But, every so often a child would feel something like a light breeze on a hot summer day. The phenomenal sensation of stretching after waking up. The feeling one gets after cleaning out their room.
You were a bit different from other children. See, you were born with Lonely Soul syndrome, a disease that affects one out of 14,530,000 people. Now, this syndrome doesn’t mean you don’t have a soulmate. You were born with your Soullux fully formed, meaning you constantly felt your soulmate. Doctors gave it such a saddening name because of the effects. Children suffering from this often are forced to mature earlier, they struggle with emotions, and experience periods of desolation. Doctors recommend therapy and if needed, medicine.
You were five when you went to your first soul therapy session. Your family didn’t think you needed it, seeing as you were a typical child. Happy some days, moody others, but they promised you a present after the appointment, so you went.
The therapist’s room was bright. There were small toys on small shelves, posters with words you couldn’t quite read, but knew you’ve seen before. On the ground was a rug with houses and roads on it, you thought it was cool.
The therapist walks into the room and smiles at you, “Did you find a toy you like, Y/n?” She asks, she only just told you her name, yet you forgot it and didn’t want to make her feel sad, so you didn’t ask. Instead, you nod and point at the Lego box sitting on the rug.
You were building a house when she speaks again, “how are you, Y/N?”
“I’m sad.” The therapist said earlier that you could talk to her about anything that was on your mind, so you did.
“Do you know why?” She’s sitting on the rug with you. It’s odd, adults don’t sit on the ground and they certainly don’t play with Legos. You decide she wasn’t an adult, just a big kid.
You’re not sure what to say so you let your mouth run, “My soulmate,” you begin. With the blue house finished, you start to reach for the Lego people, “isn’t an animal.”
She doesn’t say anything, but she does hand you the last Lego person. With the perfect amount of people around the house, you start to work on a car. Cars have always been difficult for you to build.
“It sucks. I heard that some people have animals as their soulmates and I was hoping I would too. But I don’t.” You huffed.
“Why would you want an animal as a soulmate?”
Shocked with disbelief you dropped a Lego piece. Maybe she really was an adult? “Because animals are cool. At first, I wanted them to be a horse, ‘cause that would be awesome, but then I realized that if they were a cat or dog then I could cuddle with them every night.” Excitement washes over you. Yet, when reality hits, you feel like the car you stopped building, unfinished and misshaped.
“Well, who says you can’t cuddle with your soulmate?”
“Pets have fur. That means they’re always warm and soft. People don’t have fur.”
“Y/n,” She says softly, you like the sound of her voice. It’s not wheezy like your neighbor, Ms. Henson’s nor is it high-pitched like your babysitter. “Do you like to cuddle with from your family members?”
  “Yeah,”
“So, why do you think it’s different from your soulmate?”
Well, you think, my family always acts weird when I talk about them. You’re not sure why though, your soulmate feels like blowing dandelions and eating your favorite fruit. What could be so wrong about that? You don’t tell your therapist that though. “Maybe,” you start hesitantly, when she nods her head, you’re back to being excited, “maybe we could get a pet too? Then I could cuddle with both at the same time.”
“Maybe,” She agrees with you, “Y/n, that’s a lot of people at the blue house. Do you think we should build them another house?” Looking at the blue house you see the eight people surrounding it.
“No.”
It happened after dinner. At first, you didn’t know what it was, you only knew it was something coming from your soulmate. Lately, your soulmate has been like an ocean, waves of strong emotions crash down on you. It leaves you wanting to crawl into bed and stay there all day. Every time it happens you could hear your family whispering through the door. You knew it wasn’t normal, but you couldn’t control it.
You head to your room and shut the door. Everyone always found out when you have an ‘episode’, but sometimes you could hide how long it went on. You expected it to be the same as the other times. This, however, was nothing like you ever experienced before.
It starts with a spicy taste in your mouth. A ringing in your ears. Underneath your skin, something wants liberation. You try to hold it in, but it burns.
You blink and the next thing you know your bedroom is a wreck.
On the floor near your desk was a torn paper with a smiley face. Bending down you picked up the paper to see that it was your math test. You had practice from the moment you came home until dinnertime for it. You didn’t ace it, but it was the highest grade you got so far, and you were so proud you put a smiley face on it. It was ripped up into three pieces. Really, it wasn’t a big deal. You were only seven years old and you would have many other tests this year alone, let alone for the rest of your academic life. It isn’t a big deal. So, why were you kneeling on the ground with tears blurring your vision? Why were your hands wrapped around yourself, silent snivels escaping you? Why were you pressing your face to the floor in hopes that your family wouldn’t hear? If it wasn’t a big deal, why does it hurt so much?
Someone opens up your door and gasps. They hold you as you try to remember how to breathe.
(Afterward, they help you tape up your test and you wonder if taping your heart back together will be as easy.)
They hand you a broom along with trash bags and tell you to face the consequences of your actions.
Bed overturned, clothes ripped apart, posters and old homework assignments shredded up.
The burning sensation lessens to a simmer and you’re left all alone.
With a look, around the room you think, Anger. This is what anger looks like.
Months pass by, and you grew an inch. The sun brings heat and with it comes water balloon fights and laughter. With a group of classmates, you compare birthmarks and scars. With the sun shining down on you, you think, happiness is bright.
You had finished brushing your teeth and were pulling silly faces and grinning at the mirror. That’s when you felt it. This new emotion is bitter and cold.
The you in the mirror starts to glare at you, baring their teeth like a wild animal. They mouth words that feel like ice water. “Stop it,” you say, “go away.” You glare back and mirror you smiles. “You’re my reflection. If I leave, you’ll be nothing.”
Mirror you silently laughs at you and you punch them. “I hate you.” You shout. “I hate you. I hate you. I hate-” You punch at the mirror repeatedly and mirror you starts to bleed. The glass shatters. A piece of the mirror slightly larger than your hand sits in the sink with drops of blood resting on it and you smirk. Only then do you see your fists. Bruised and bleeding, your blood stains the bathroom floor. You close your eyes in hopes that you don’t see your reflection.
When someone comes to check on the noise and see you there, they carefully drag you out and scold you. They clean your fist and check for glass, then they bandaged your hands and sigh. As they clean up, you sit in your room.
(“why are you so broken?” Mirror you shouts. “Why can’t you be normal?”)
Staring at your bandaged fists, you think, hatred is a violent emotion.
Nearly a year passes by when the next wave hits. Unlike anger, this emotion does not burn you. Instead, it lingers in everything you do, every day, every moment. It waits. It makes you silent at the moments you want to speak, and it makes you cry when you want to laugh. It waits. You can’t explain it to anyone, they don’t understand. This emotion waits until you are truly alone when it strikes.
At eight years old, you learn a hard fact.
(If anger burns, happiness shines, hatred bruises, and love heals. Then sadness takes it all, swallows it whole, leaving you to wonder if anything was there in the first place.)
The increased therapy sessions and nervous glances from family members lets you know something is up. With a little snooping around, you find out what. Hurrying back to your room you lean against your door and stare at the pamphlet. “Why choose Soullux removal?” The pamphlet shows happy people doing everyday things. You read the pamphlet three times. Each time deepens the sick feeling you have.
Soullux removal.
Doctors found out that humans don’t need a Soullux to survive. “The organ is not like the Heart,” the pamphlet reads, “one could live a healthy and even happy life without a soulmate.” It goes on and on talking about how many famous and successful people have removed their Soullux so that they can “focus on more important things.”
Seconds later, you realize your family wants you to get the surgery.
No, you think. Never.
Angry you make your way to the living room and seeing as everyone is there, you erupt.
“No. It’s not right. I won’t do it. You can’t take them away from me.,” You shout. “I won’t do it. You all have your soulmates. If you want Soullux removal, get it yourselves!” By the end of your speech, you’re panting, your vision is blurry, sniffs do nothing to help with the snot dripping out of your nose.
“Soullux removal?” One of them says, “Y/n, we would never.”
You throw the pamphlet on the table. “Yeah, right.”
“That was in my room. Y/n, you know you not allowed in there.”
“And you not allowed to steal my soulmate from me, but that’s exactly what you were planning.”
“Y/n, you-”
“-Even though it was wrong of you to sneak into their room,” a different family member interrupts, “Y/n, it’s important for you to know we would never do that without talking to you.”
After all the emotions cooled down you all talked. They handed you a different pamphlet. This one talks about pills you could take to “lessen the intense feelings your broken soulmate forces on you.”
“Broken” soulmates are soulmates with such mental and/or physical “problems” that causes their soulmates to feel the pain of their disorder. These pills eventually block you from feeling your soulmate entirely.
As you read the pamphlet, you note all the times it says broken. Three.
Broken. Like that time, you accidentally dropped a bowl and it shattered. Broken. Like when your classmate broke their arm, and everyone wanted to sign it. Broken.
They think your soulmate is broken. They want you to abandon them.
You want to throw up.
No. You think, you can’t take them from me. I won’t abandon them so please don’t take them from me. Please. Please. Don’t. They’re not broken. Please don’t take them from me. I’ll do anything, please.
“Please,” you say, “Please. Don’t. Please.” And you repeat those words over and over.
At the age of thirteen, you give up on your soulmate. You tried, honestly. You read every book, watched every video, and even posted on all kinds of forums online in hopes of finding a way to help, but nothing was working. You were useless.
Really, it was your soulmates’ fault. No one could constantly be sad, angry, and full of self-hate, right?
It makes you wonder though. What was it about your soulmate that they only felt those three emotions? Was someone doing terrible things to them? Or were they terrible people?
You didn’t know. What you did know however was that you couldn’t help them. You wanted to continue listening to music on your bed thinking sad thoughts, but you needed to clean out your room. You’ve been putting it off for weeks. And that’s what you did, for about the first fifteen minutes, but then you found an old shoebox in your closet. You couldn’t leave it, could you?
In the shoebox were tiny trinkets and a stack of letters all addressed to someone you’ve never met.
You remember when you started going on little adventures after your soulmate started to feel down. You were only seven then.
The idea was you would go on fun adventures like those happy kids on TV. You figured that your soulmate had Lonely Soul syndrome too, then they would feel your happiness. If they couldn’t be happy themselves, you would share yours. Then you thought that if you saved tiny gifts and letters when you finally meet them you could give it to them. If they knew you cared for them, maybe, just maybe, a bit of their sadness would go away.
You didn’t think about the shoebox in months. You wonder what younger you would say if they knew you gave up on your soulmate just like everyone else.
You open one of the letters.
Dear Soul Mate,
Hello, it’s me.
I’m seven now, but my birtday is in a few weeks. You’ve been sad lately and I’m here to tell you that won’t do.
That won’t do.
See ya, Y/n.
That was all the letter read. No adventure no nothing. You shoved the letter back in the envelope and grab another one.
Dear Soul Mate,
My family thinks you’re broken. I don’t know if your family thinks that about you too, and maybe that’s why you are sad all the time. But you should know that I don’t think you are. I don’t think people can break. Sometimes it might feel like it though. Sometimes it might feel like shards of who you used to be are missing and no matter how many times you try to piece yourself together again you don’t fit. You might feel defeated and completely alone. But you are not an object. You are not glass that can be shattered. Broken means that you’ve given up, and you haven’t. You’re still, living, breathing, feeling. As long as you are still alive, you are still fighting. You’re not what people define you as, you’re just you and that’s all you need to be.
I wish I could promise that I would always be there for you, but I can’t. I wish I could tell you that I believe in you, but I’m not sure you care about what a stranger thinks. I can promise you that I’m telling the truth when I say that you are the strongest person I know. Everything you feel is whole and true. Your anger, your hate, and your sadness feels like it consumes you, but underneath it all, you have pure wonder, unconditional love, and constant kindness. You amaze me. Despite never meeting you, I know you. And I am proud to have you as my soulmate.
See ya soon, Y/n.”
You don’t remember writing that. You didn’t even know you could write like that. Honestly, you were expecting all the letters to be like the first one.
It was harder these days to feel the emotions younger you talked about. These days all your soulmate felt was sadness and hate.
Maybe writing one more letter couldn’t hurt, right? Beats cleaning your room.
Why the heck were you in the park? You have an essay that’s due soon and yet here you were sitting on a park bench.
A quick look around shows an average park. Trees, benches, grass, and a playground with a group of teenagers.
They had to be older than you by a good three years. The way they were standing was weird.Four of the five teens were facing the last one, a girl. You didn’t like the smug looks on their faces.
The girl was shouting. Her back rigid and arms crossed.“We’re soulmates.” She practically shouts. “What do you mean you don’t need me?”
You should leave.
“It means I would rather get that surgery everyone talks about than have you as a soulmate. Look at you, you’re worthless.” He says. You could see his hideous smirk from where you stood. His friends holding onto one another as they laugh.
Her shoulders shake and-
“Hey,” You don’t even register the fact that you’ve spoken until everyone’s looking at you. “Don’t you think this is a private conversation between the two of you, you know, in private?”
“Who the hell are you?” Of all things, you didn’t expect the girl to shout at you full force.
“I’m just your common citizen trying to run away from my responsibilities, so if you could quiet down that would be great.”
“Kid, why don’t you mind your own business?”  Jerk face asks.
By now you are standing face to face with Jerk face and his groupies. You turn to the girl who looks like she’s in complete shock. Her face is red and eyes puffy. “Normally I would. But I think you should leave.”
“Or what?”
“Run.” You tell her.
“What?” She whispers.
Jerk face is still smirking. You want nothing more than to punch him in the face, but you can’t. Instead, you kick him where it hurts and with the girl in tow you dash out of there.
After a while, you two reach a neighborhood. You didn’t recognize it, but it seemed like a good enough place to rest.
“Why did you do that?” The girl asks.
“I know, I should have punched him, but,” you hold up your dominant hand, “I need this hand to write my letters, they’re important.”
“Letters? how old are you?”
“I’m Fourteen.”
“And you write letters?”
“Yeah,”
That’s all it takes to set her off. She starts to laugh and can’t stop. Bent over, hugging herself, she laughs until she can’t breathe.
You don’t mean to ruin the moment, but you do. “Your soulmate is a jerk.”
“Lance,”
“What?”
“His name is Lance.”
“Yeah, well, Lance is a jerk, and as your friend, I suggest slapping him the next time you see him.”
“Friend?” Her laugh turns a little hollower, “you don’t even know me.”
“Well then, let’s get to know each other. Name’s Y/n.”
She looks at you, stares as if trying to decide whether or not you’re screwing with her.
She nods then, “I’m Donna,” she says, “Donna Noble.”
You decided to walk Donna home. She’s quiet; a direct contradiction to earlier. You understood what it was like to have a lot on your mind, so you tried to stay quiet as well. It was Donna who ended the silence.
“I always thought that I would find my soulmate and we would fall in love. That I would get what my parents have. My mom always told me ‘your soulmate is exactly what you deserve and everything you’ll ever need.’” Tears fall from her eyes, but with a deep breath she continues, “He is exactly what I deserve. My one and only soulmate.” She laughs bitterly.
You wish you knew what to say. You wish you could pluck the right words out of the air and weave sentences so beautiful Donna would stop laughing and start smiling.
Over the years as you watched friends and family find their soulmates you learned that just because people can feel their soulmate doesn’t mean they truly understand them or their life experiences. That takes work and commitment. It is odd to think about however; knowing someone deeply, yet at the same time not at all.
“Maybe, soul- people,” you correct yourself after Donna flinches at the s word. Yeah, there were some days where that word burned you as well, “maybe, people aren’t supposed to fill a missing hole in you. Maybe they’re just the cherry on top.”
You reach her house and she points you towards her kitchen when you ask for a glass of water.
In the kitchen, are who you assume are Donna’s parents. Music and laughter fill the air and the two of them are eating. With such soft smiles and tender touches, you could tell they were deeply in love. It was as if they were the only ones in the room.
“Here.” Donna hands you a glass of water.
You were so captivated by her parents you didn’t notice Donna slip pass you. A glance at the two eating shows they haven’t even noticed two people in the room with them.
“Thank you, Donna.” You practically shout. Everyone looks at you oddly, but at least your plan works.
The day you turned thirty, your life took an odd turn.
Technically it started six months before that.
See, Donna started a temp job at the same place Lance the Jerk works. Apparently, as Lance claimed, he was a changed man. He said he wanted to start fresh with Donna. Donna was all for forgiving him. (“Y/n, he brings me coffee every day. Me. Coffee!”)
You felt there was something odd about the whole thing though.
It wasn’t the fact that the best friend rulebook states that you have to hate him for how he hurt your best friend.
It also wasn’t because he never once apologized to Donna. (Saying “I was only a kid at the time,” is not an apology.)
The problem is you didn’t think Lance was the right person for Donna, ironically enough. Donna is full of life, she’s loud, kind, and slightly ignorant, Donna is passionate. Lance is indifferent, he’s judgmental and arrogant.
Seeing the two of them together puts a sour taste in your mouth. Aside from a few subtle comments, you haven’t really talked to Donna about it. How could you tell her you thought her soulmate wasn’t right for her? Maybe you were reading too much into it? You hope Donna sees something in him that you are overlooking, you hope Lance has a better side of him that he shows Donna.
You wanted nothing more than for Donna to be happy. If it means holding your tongue around Lance, you would duct tape your mouth shut.
Donna tells you she wants to marry him, and you play the role of the excited best friend.
It happens on the day of your thirtieth birthday, two weeks before Donna’s wedding. Donna throws you a big surprise party, but halfway through she disappears. Nerys-why is she here? You don’t even know her, and Donna hates her- tells you that she vanished into golden dust, but you figured she was wasted. You ask around, but no one’s seen Donna.
Soon, the party is over, and you still don’t know where Donna is.
When you get home, you find Donna sitting in your kitchen, a cup of tea in her hands. Her hair is a mess, clothes tore and she was soaking wet. How in the world?
“Donna? I was looking everywhere for you. I almost punched like three people when they said you were-”
Donna rushes into your arms. She’s shaking, holding you as if you are the only thing in life that makes sense.
“Donna?” Sighing, you hug her back. “Let’s get you cleaned up, okay?”
After Donna is clean and in dry clothes she talks.
She tells you that Lance was lying. That he was in love? With a spider? And there was a doctor trying to help. The spiders died. Lance died. Thames flooded?  Or was it drained? Honestly, you couldn’t really make out much of what she was saying with her face buried in your shoulder, tears staining your clothes. All that matter was that your best friend needed you. You held her until her sobs turned to snores.
Donna spends the next year traveling, learning, and looking for trouble.
You spend the year working, paying bills, and wishing you could do the same as Donna.
When Donna calls you to excitedly tell you that she’s speaking Latin of all things, you decided enough was enough.
Three hours later, you meet up at a small café.
You see Donna the moment you walk in the café. She’s sitting at a table for four with a man beside her. Both of them seem to be having an interesting conversation because both of them can’t seem to stop laughing.
The sight brings a smile to your face.
When someone walks into the café, Donna glances up and meets your eye. She stands, waves her hands in the air, practically shouts your name.
Before the temptation to act like you don’t know her kicks in; you rush to her. The hug she pulls you in is unexpected but nice.
“Oh, I haven’t seen you in months!”
You don’t say anything. Instead, you run your eyes over Donna. Taking a step back you notice that the Donna before you is different from the one you saw a few days ago. There’s something about this Donna that makes her shine. Maybe a new haircut?
“Did you get a tan?” You notice it then; Donna definitely got a tan but… a quick look at the window shows you that it is still pouring out just like it has for the last week.
Donna laughs and drags you to the table. She introduces you to the man whose name is the Doctor and you say hello. It’s as he’s about to reply that you feel it. A wave of happiness hits you like a smack upside the head and spins your world around. Colors are brighter and what once was gloomy rain is now the water that brings life to mother nature. Too busy looking around you miss everything the man, the Doctor, was saying.
“Sorry about that.” You give a sheepish smile. The Doctor grins. With one hand ruffling his hair, he leans towards you from across the table.
“What’s wrong?” He asks.
“Nothing, I think it’s just my soulmate.” The last bit of the sentence comes out as a question.
“Them again? Listen Y/n the second I meet this bloke, I tell you what, I’m gon- ”
“Donna you are not going to assault my soulmate.” Donna ‘offers’ to slap your soulmate every time they feel something other than happiness. You can’t help your smile grow though; before Donna you never really had someone who was ready to fight anyone who hurts you.
“What’s wrong with your soulmate?” The Doctor raises an eyebrow.  “I think your soulmate is perfectly fine. In fact, I’d go so far as to say this is one of the greatest days of their life.”
“And why is that?” You don’t notice that you are leaning towards him.
“Well,” he drags the word out, “I think he just met his soulmate.”
It takes a moment for your brain to process what he said. When you do, you jump from your seat spinning around to search for him. “What? Where is he?” Your heart is pounding.
From a distance, you hear Donna whisper an “Oh my God.”
“If my soulmate is here why doesn’t he come up to me?”
You turn to Donna after she calls your name, “your soulmate is right in front of you.”
Looking from Donna to the Doctor to Donna again you open your mouth and- “Donna,” you sigh, “you are not my soulmate.”
Slumping down into the chair, you rest your elbow on the table with your chin in your hand.“You guys really got me excited for nothing.” You pout. Your other hand plays with the teacup in the center of the table.
“Um, if your soulmate was right in front of you what would you want him to do?” The Doctor asks.
“Anything really. A simple ‘Hello’ and their name is good enough.”
“Hello. I’m the Doctor.”
“Yeah, I know. You’ve already introduced yourself.”
“You spend all this time waiting for your soulmate and now that he’s in front of you, you can’t see him? Y/n you are an idiot.”
“What are you talking about? The only people in front of me is you tw-ooh.” Looking at the Doctor, you don’t know how you feel. The best way to describe it would be dancing. It’s like back when you were a teenager listening to music in your room. The music turned on loud, your door closed, and you start to dance. Jumping around, singing, and having fun, the joy you feel from hearing your favorite song runs through your veins; nothing could ruin the moment. As you spin around, in the midst of singing your favorite verse, someone opens the door. The two of you stare at one another as you wait for them to decide if they want to embarrass you by walking away or join in on the dancing.
That is the best way you can describe how you feel.
That happiness with a side of embarrassment.
The Doctor and Donna spend the next few hours explaining who the Doctor is, what they do, and all the places they visited. They told you about the chaos, the fun, and the universe. If you were anybody else, you would have gone into shock and cancel the whole day. However, you are you and so the only thing you can do after discovering that aliens exist is laugh. Because your soulmate is an alien who travels all of time and space in a phone box and your best friend, Donna Noble-
“My best friend traveled across the universe and brought me back my soulmate.”

FEMSLASH FEBRUARY 2018 21/28: In which Haley gets into graduate school, and Cameron grapples with regret
After graduating from CalTech with a degree in Applied Mathematics, and two years at a start up (during the second of which she lived at home with Cameron and Donna), Haley comes downstairs for Sunday brunch and says, "I have news. It's good news, but it's big news." Donna suppresses the urge to make a joke about how she already came out to them, and Haley says, "I applied to a doctoral program at MIT and I got in. I'm moving to Massachusetts in August."
Cameron and Donna are speechless for a minute, before Donna says, "I thought you wanted to be a math professor!" Haley shrugs, "I think everyone who likes being a student thinks that they want to teach. Honestly though, after seeing what professors are really like, especially with grad students, in the math department at school? Yeah, no thanks. I figured I'd just do free lance web design or something. But then I read that MIT has an Institute for Data, Systems, and Society, and I thought, 'That's kind of software and hardware, so it's perfect.' I applied at the last minute, I can't believe I got in."
Donna looks at Cameron, shocked, struggling to breathe, and then turns back to Haley and says, "I have so much practice at being proud of you, why do I feel like I'm having some kind of cardiac event?! I need to sit down…." Gently, Cameron says, "You are sitting down, boss. Here," she hands Donna glass of water, and starts fanning her with a napkin.
After brunch, Haley calls Joe, the only person she'd told she was applying (though that stays between them). "I knew you could do it," he says. And then, mischievously, "Are they freaking out?" Haley snorts, "Cameron just asked my mom if she thinks she'll need the smelling salts and my mom got annoyed at her." Joe laughs, and says, "I can only imagine how happy they must be." It gets quiet, and Haley says, "You can say it. I'm ready." Joe takes a deep breath, and says, "Your dad would be so proud of you. And I'm sure he'd feel honored by your interest in network architecture." "That was the idea. Kind of," Haley nods. For a few minutes, neither of them say anything, they just stay there on the line together.
That summer, Donna throws a dinner party at one of Haley's favorite fancy Mexican restaurants to celebrate. During the first round of drinks, Simon asks, "So what's the name of the program?" "It's the Ph.D. program in Social and Engineering Systems," Donna beams. Just as encouragingly, Simon asks, "And what do you intend to do there?" "I intend to address my and other peoples' growing concerns about accessibility. And also corporate interests, net neutrality, and maybe how hate groups use the internet. I don't know, maybe I'll even eventually try to get involved at the policy level? I don't really know how that works, I've never had to…." Vanessa snorts, "And she finally starts to own her privilege," a joke that only they, Joanie, and Haley's girlfriend find funny.
Simon is about to ask another question when Haley says, "I'm just worried about the infrastructure, you know? I mean, you and Dad, you all worked so hard to build the internet, to build on its backbone, but does that matter if people can't get to it, or afford it? It would be such a waste." When she looks up and sees that her mom, Cameron, Joe, and Simon all have tears in their eyes, she says, "What? Did I say something?" When none of them are able to respond, she continues, "I put all of that in my application, and I wrote about Comet, and also Cardiff, and Mutiny, and Calnect, and Symphonic." Simon grins, "Full disclosure of your family's interests and involvement in the industry, work experience, and your personal investment. I like it, and the admissions board did too, obviously."
Joe excuses himself to go and have an ugly cry by the restaurant's restrooms, and Simon and Donna start to tease Haley about possibly going over from software to the 'dark side' of hardware. But when Donna says, "Software comes and goes…" and no one seems to hear her, and Gordon isn't there to say, "But hardware is forever," she also excuses herself to go to the restroom and sob.
She and Joe both cry, and then, a few minutes later, Cameron finds them, and says, "I'm the only one here who's crying because I didn't finish school, does that make me a terrible person?" Joe and Donna both laugh uproariously, grateful for the distraction, and for Cameron’s lovable ridiculousness.
Later that night, in bed, Cameron asks Donna, "Okay but what if I went to graduate school?" Trying to sound delicate and instead sounding closer to patronizing, Donna says, "But you left before you finished your bachelor's, remember, honey?" Miserably, Cameron says, "So I'd have to do a four-year degree first? And gen eds?!" Guiltily, Donna says, "I'd kind of like to see that." When Cameron shoots her a look of outrage, Donna says, "Also a possibility, maybe one day you'll get an honorary degree. And then you don't have to do the work!"
Pulling the covers up to her chin, Cameron says, "What if I want to do the work though? The gen eds could be nice, I could learn about something besides computers." Then she says, "Or I don't know, do you think maybe I could show a department my resume and that they'd just, you know…accept that in lieu of a degree?" With great affection, Donna says, "In a just world, you'd be able to get into the school of your choice based on Pilgrim alone."
Curling up next to Donna, Cameron says, "I'm glad I dropped out. Really. It's how I met you. But I still get sad when I think about how I dropped out because Joe noticed me. I needed that more than I needed a degree. Or that's how it felt." Donna puts an arm around Cameron. Cameron closes her eyes, and says, "God, Haley is so smart, she has so many ideas and viewpoints and questions, that's why she got into the program. I don't know if I have any ideas like that, maybe I should just stick to code."
Softly, Donna says, "I don't think that's true. The girl who made my husband rearrange his motherboard so she could write a BIOS that talks to you like it's your friend had viewpoints. And the young woman who made Pilgrim when everyone else was making first person shooters, which she did ten years before that, if you'll recall, she had ideas and viewpoints and questions. If you wanna go back to school, Cameron, you should go. I will support you, no matter what. I'll buy Berkeley a new library if that's what it takes." She pictures an ivy-covered brick building with a sign out front that reads "The Donna Emerson Library for LGBTQ Literature and Studies Into how Lesbians Invented Romance".
"What if I steal Haley's math professor idea? I love math," Cameron sighs dreamily. "You could, you would probably be a very popular professor, and there would probably be many students of all genders with crushes on you," Donna says. Cameron grimaces, "Or maybe I'll just stay a college dropout." "But you'll be my dropout," Donna whispers. "My dropout, flung out of Austin Tech." Cameron laughs, and soon thereafter falls asleep, no longer worried about whether or not she should go back to school.

Fandom Tag Meme
Thank you to @gallihafry for tagging me! Sorry it took me so long to do this!
1. Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s):
I've never been super into shipping (I've actually distanced myself from a few fandoms because some of the shippers were so rude to people). I've found that most of my favorite relationships on Doctor Who have been mainly platonic ones, like the friendships between Eleven and Amy, Ten and Donna, and Twelve and Bill. The exception to this is Doctor x Clara. I liked her with Eleven, but she and Twelve are just brilliant together. And even this pairing is a little different than most because Clara and Twelve never kiss or do anything overtly romantic (at least not onscreen). And I think that's what appeals to me about it. It's clear that they love each other more than life itself, but their relationship defies categories and stereotypes.
2. A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind (bonus points: who was that person).
I can't think of any.
3. A pairing you used to love, but it all fell apart for you.
I wouldn’t say it all fell apart for me because I still like River x Doctor (The Husbands of River Song is my favorite Christmas Special), but the whole "You're destined to fall in love with me" aspect bothers me because I'm a big believer in free will. However, I do really love the idea of River loving the Doctor throughout his different incarnations, in spite of the huge changes in personality and appearance. Apparently, there’s a Big Finish story where River goes on an adventure with Six and Seven, which sounds pretty entertaining. And I have absolutely nothing against Alex Kingston herself. I got to see her at a panel in my hometown a year ago (my first ever Doctor Who panel!), and she’s so funny and charismatic. I think even my Dad enjoyed listening to her, even though he’s not a Doctor Who fan. And her hair is even more amazing in person.
4. Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
Not yet, unfortunately. However, I'm planning on getting Photoshop soon, so maybe I will someday. 🙂
5. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
I've loved Star Wars since childhood. I think I was around seven when I watched A New Hope for the first time. It’s still my favorite Star Wars movie.
6. Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it?
I think it was either Raven x Beast Boy (Teen Titans) or Aang x Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender).
7. Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over Tumblr.
It was a gifset of Vincent and the Doctor that sparked my interest in Doctor Who. Also, I printed out a Twelfth Doctor quote and put it on the bulletin board over my desk before I ever started watching the show. It was his "scared is a superpower" quote from Listen, which is now one of my favorite episodes.
8. Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike).
While I don't hate any of the Doctor's companions, Rose Tyler is my least favorite. Her possessiveness of the Doctor bugged me. However, I liked her friendship with Nine and I know she played a critical role in healing him after the Time War.
9. Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
I have to agree with @gallihafry here: 1) Less hatred of the showrunners. Constructive criticism is good, personal attacks are not. 2) More respect towards those with differing viewpoints. 3) Kind of ties in with 2, but less "us vs them" attitudes when it comes to ships. We can become so divided over characters and ships that we forget that we all love the same show.
10. Choose a song at random; which ship or character does it remind you of?
"Answer" by Sarah McLachlan makes me think of Twelve and Clara. If I had any video editing skills, I'd make a video for them with that song (and probably cry a lot).
11. A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
This would obviously be an AU ship, but I really love the idea of Donna x Nine. It all started with this artwork by Kelly Yates. I bought a t-shirt with this on it, and my favorite little detail is the heart between Donna and Nine. I can totally picture those two together, rocking their leather jackets and sassing their way through time and space. They’d probably get into a big argument at some point, then one of them (probably Donna) would randomly interrupt the whole thing with a kiss. How cute would that be? Okay, now I really want to see some Donna x Nine fanart.
12. Your most scandalous headcanon for your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s).
I only recently became a Whouffaldi shipper, so nothing yet.
13. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)?
I believe that Twelve has a Scottish accent because of Amy, and no one will ever convince me otherwise. It kind of makes me hope that Thirteen will have an accent like Clara's. I really like the idea of remembering a companion through a trait like that.
14. 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
I’ve already listed some in this post, but I left out some good ones, so I'm glad this question is here!
Ellen Ripley (Alien) Amy Pond (Doctor Who) Aragorn (Lord of the Rings) Sophie Hatter (Howl's Moving Castle) Furiosa (Mad Max: Fury Road)
15. 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms.
Whouffaldi (Doctor Who), Sherlolly (Sherlock), and Ellie x Alec (Broadchurch)
16. 5 favorite ships.
Since I’ve already listed my three main romantic ships, I’m going to use this space to list my favorite platonic ships!
Amy & Eleven
Donna & Ten
Bill & Twelve
Red & Liz (The Blacklist)
Sherlock & Watson (Sherlock, Elementary)
17. Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged).
Time for a little soapbox rant. One thing that really irritates me is the attitude that platonic relationships can't be as interesting and complex as romantic ones. The majority of my favorite fictional relationships are platonic, but I wouldn't call any of them boring. What's even more upsetting is when people attack writers for not making their ship canon. It's fine to disagree with the direction of a show or story, but as I said above, personal attacks are never okay. This is something I've run into in multiple fandoms, unfortunately. However, the people I follow, along with my followers and mutuals, are giving me hope that not all fandoms have to be that way. I’m thankful for the community I’ve found here. Y’all are helping my attitude both toward fandoms and (for those of you close to my age) toward my age group in general. I have a history of disliking other millennials. But I’m learning that it’s not fair to generalize just because I’ve had some bad experiences in the past. Seriously, thank you, everyone, for the follows, likes, reblogs, tags, comments, etc. Whether you know it or not, you’re helping me heal. 😊
Well, that got rather long and personal! Congrats if you read this whole thing.
I’m going to tag: @impossible-stardust, @gallifreyland, @twelveclaraisreal, @lullapiee, and @sea-sands. This is purely for fun, don’t feel pressured to participate.

fandom tag meme
@tardisly tagged me to do this, tysm!!!
1. Your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s):
i had a little river/doctor spell awhile back, particularly river with thirteen, so i'll go with that!
2. A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind (bonus points: who was that person).
doctor/clara maybe??? i really don't ship them romantically but i can at least see the appeal of it now, i used to be totally opposed to it.
3. A pairing you used to love, but it all fell apart for you.
it hasn't rlly fallen apart but i'm not as absolutely obsessed with tenrose as i used to be (like seriously, idk if i can convey in words how much i loved them)
4. Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom, if so, what?
some of my 2014 instagram edits were probably so terrible that they could be considered cracky, but other than that nope!
5. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
either harry potter or percy jackson-- i read pjo before hp but i never rlly stayed a consistent fan of pjo (although i do still love it!)
6. Do you remember your first OTP, if so who was in it?
hmm, i remember in pjo i preferred percy being with rachel than annabeth before i ever knew what shipping was, so i'll count that as it!
7. Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over Tumblr.
everything i've ever been into? seriously tho, this is why i got into doctor who (and the other shows that were *ahem* associated with it), yuri on ice, stranger things, like.. literally everything lmao
8. Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves (chars you’re neutral on are fair game, as are chars you dislike).
clara had rlly good development and was super badass (i'm kinda neutral on her ig, leaning more towards liking her tho)
9. Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
imma agree with the past ppl and say i wish there was less head writer discourse, it's fucking annoying and just a never ending battle of opinion. it'd also be nice if there was less gatekeeping-- i don't see it that often but it's annoying to see ppl get turned away bc they haven't seen every episode or aren't interested in classic who or smthn. #3 i wish there weren't any sexist assholes like the ones that oppose thirteen, but thankfully most of them seem to have removed themselves :)
10. Choose a song at random; which ship or character does it remind you of?
(i had to shuffle a few times to get to a song that i actually knew jfndnsksk) it's youth by troye sivan, and it reminds me most of ten and rose bc like they ran away together n rose was pretty young
11. A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
none tbh, my interests are pretty mainstream.
12. Your most scandalous headcanon for your current OTP(s)/OT3(s)/OTX(s).
noneee
13. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)?
rose is bi, amy is bi, clara is bi, and the doctor only chooses gryffindors to travel with (ok ik that isn't true but seriously isn't like every companion a fuckin gryffindor??)
14. 5 favorite characters from 5 different fandoms.
bill potts- doctor who
ginny weasley- harry potter
cecil palmer- welcome to night vale
arya stark- game of thrones
15. 3 OTPs from 3 different fandoms.
river/doctor- doctor who
cecil/carlos- wtnv
cas/dean- supernatural
16. 5 brotps:
clara/twelve
bill/twelve
amy/eleven
donna/ten
harry/hermione
(if they were supposed to be different fandoms... oops lol dw just has so many good ones)
17. Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go (prompts optional but encouraged).
ok I know I mentioned it up there but I literally fucking hate the show runner discourse SO MUCH bc ppl who don't like moffat have this weird superiority complex bc they think he's the devil and rtd is a saint and it's like??? Bitch half ur facts are deadass just wrong and they just twist shit and it gets spread around and it's so damn annoying. but then the people who hate rtd are just as bad bc they think they're special for actually liking moffat and that they're geniuses for seeing rtd's flaws and it's like???? Damn b both writers have their faults but neither of them is the fuckin antichrist or whatever. the worst is when either of these ppl tries to make the writers seem like raging sexists-- oh rtd hated women bc donna didn't have a choice in her memory wipe!!!1!1 nah it's not like she would've literally died if the doctor hadn't done that, and it's not like saving people from dying is is ENTIRE THING like how do you even twist it that badly?? also moffat has literally paved the way for a woman doctor soooo aNywaY i'm done that actually got rlly long lol oops

They keep reminding everyone to call them the Doctor; everyone seems to insist on calling them Dr. James McCrimmon. There’s one red-haired woman who gets it right every time without them even needing to ask, though she seems to insist on some rather bizarre things about the current state of reality. The System says they need to focus on what’s in front of them and to not worry about distractions like her.
The Doctor’s not sure who or what to believe.

The idealist in me has long wanted to believe that labels don’t matter, but if you address me in the wrong way too many times? It becomes clear to me that labels are important. Labels help define us and our role in the world. This helps us connect to others—it gives us a sense of purpose and belonging. But labels aren’t static. How we identify changes over time. Children become adults; students become teachers; daughters become mothers; etc. But does that change who we are?
In many ways, we are ever evolving. While we only have a single lifetime, the events of our lives sometimes make portions seem wholly separate. That often leaves us feeling like the Doctor from Doctor Who. Where we would say something seemed like it happened a lifetime ago, that may be true for the Doctor. The Doctor’s longevity and ability to regenerate has given them the chance to live many lifetimes. Each time, they are a different person and live a different life than the one before, carrying with them all the memories and many of the attributes of their previous incarnations.
“But wait…” you must be thinking, “they? Isn’t the Doctor a ‘he?’”
On Sunday, July 16th, 2017, the BBC announced that the Doctor’s next regeneration will be female. Jodie Whittaker, best known for her role as Beth Latimer in Broadchurch, will take up the role and regenerate into the Doctor when Peter Capaldi departs the show in the upcoming Christmas special, Twice Upon a Time. This will be the first time in the show’s 54-year history that the Doctor will be a woman.
We’ve seen the Doctor speak as a woman in the past. In “New Earth,” the first episode of series two, the Lady Cassandra jumped into the Doctor’s body. However, that didn’t make her the Doctor. She was simply a woman trapped in a man’s body. So what does it mean now that the Doctor will be played by a woman? Does this change her?
In today’s society, we recognize that the labels that have been assigned to us are not always correct. Thankfully, increasing awareness of this has more and more people asking each other how to they prefer to be addressed and how they identify. Now as we move from a male to a female Doctor, we must consider the implications of what it means to be a Time Lord. Or a Time Lady. Is there a difference? Which is correct?
I was recently a guest on BBC’s Newshour, discussing the Doctor being played by a woman. At the end of the segment, I was asked if the Doctor, as played by Jodie Whittaker, will be a Time Lord or a Time Lady. I didn’t think twice—I said that Time Lord is a race, and thus she would still be a Time Lord.
Well, in reviewing references from both the Classic Who and New Who, the results are mixed. Time Lord and Time Lady have both been used to refer to women. Romana was called a Time Lady in “City of Death” from the 17th season of the classic series, and Missy specially requests to be referred to as a Time Lady in Dark Water in the 8th season of the new series. However, the Academy on Gallifrey is referred to as the Time Lord Academy in several instances, and Rassilon addresses the Senate (men and women) as “Time Lords of Gallifrey” in The Day of the Doctor in New Who. There does not appear to be a clear answer.
We’ve already run into a language issue. Is Time Lord a race? A species? A title in a caste system? In my incorrect estimation, I had previously considered being a Time Lord vs. being a Gallifreyan like whether you would call yourself a human or a Terran. Humans are a Terran humanoid species. However, not all Gallifreyans become Time Lords. Gallifreyans who become Time Lords are from ruling houses called The Chapters of Gallifrey. This sort of caste system determines who rules by bloodline, but being a Time Lord is more than who you’re related to.
Ten seems to reference this in “The Doctor’s Doctor” in series four. In this episode, the Doctor is cloned. The clone, Jenny, is a young woman, and Donna asks, “Does that mean she’s a … what do you call a female Time Lord?” Jenny asks what a Time Lord is and if she is one. The Doctor responds, “You’re an echo, that’s all. A Time Lord is so much more. A sum of knowledge, a code, shared history, shared suffering.” While the Doctor was likely speaking out over his hurt about the past, his point is made. There is a sum of knowledge gained through the Academy.
How important is the Academy? Children were taken from their families at the age of eight to look into the Untempered Schism of Time, according to the Doctor in “The Sound of Drums.” This did not always end well. Neither does it seem to be a strict necessity, as humans were admitted to the academy for some time. It is unclear if they would ever finish, though. According to the comics, individuals spent centuries at the Academy. Does this mean looking into the Untempered Schism makes this possible? Does it change your genes?
We know there is a genetic component. In Doctor Who Confidential, it’s stated that Jenny, who was cloned from the Doctor, is “another member of that race, or something closely akin to it.” We also look to River Song. In series six, River’s genetics is explained in “A Good Man Goes to War.” Being conceived in the time vortex gifted River with Time Lord DNA in addition to her human DNA. There are few that would not consider River a female Time Lord, given her ability to regenerate.
So as a species or a race, being a Time Lord is like being a Trill from Star Trek. The Trill are a joined species–a host and a symbiont. While Trill have the potential to join with a symbiont, not all do, and you must take part in extensive training. Much like the Trill and joining, it is only after going to the academy that one becomes a Time Lord. There are both genetic and learned components of each group.
Each Doctor is a new person, carrying on bits of their former selves much like the symbiont carrying the memories of the past to the new Trill they join with. We cannot simply say that the way they thought of and referred themselves previously is the same way they will in the future. Even in people, we understand that we grow and change. Our labels change.
Jodie Whittaker comes to the role of the Doctor at a disadvantage not applicable previously. She is fighting against the notion that the Doctor is necessarily a man. Even actors who previously played the Doctor have stated they are unsure of a woman playing the role. “If I feel any doubts, it’s the loss of a role model for boys, who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for. So, I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up,” Peter Davison, the fifth Doctor, told The Guardian.
Not everyone agrees. Colin Baker, otherwise known as the sixth Doctor, stated on Twitter, “Change my dears and not a moment too soon–she IS the Doctor, whether you like it or not!” And as Merriam Webster so kindly reminded us, the word ‘doctor’ has no gender in English. There is nothing inherent in the character or even in the name the Doctor chose for themself. That’s a big part of where the Doctor differs from the Missy/the Master. Missy has been a female and a male. Missy changed her name and requested that she be referred to as a Time Lady.
Frankly, the phrase Time Lady makes my skin crawl. Perhaps it’s the association with Missy that does it, or maybe it’s the history Doctor Who has with female characters. It comes across being demeaning and diminutive, as if the Doctor will be subservient to men. The character should in no way be diminished or appear subservient because they will now be a woman.
I informally polled my friends through Facebook and Twitter; it seems I’m not alone in preferring Time Lord continue to be used (we ran about 80/20, Time Lord to Time Lady). While more gender-neutral options where suggested, including Time Being and Time Folk, most preferred to use Time Lord as a gender-neutral option. Some even argued that “lord” is a gender-neutral word. Rather than using the definition that a lord is “a man of rank or high position–a feudal tenant whose right or title comes directly from the king,” they argued that a lord is “one who has power and authority over others, and is a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due.”
There is a difference in usage in how we use lord and lady in regular conversation. While you think of a lord as someone powerful, a lady can merely be the polite way to refer to any woman. Lady can also bring up less savory feelings. It can be used to indicate a particular code of conduct—acting ladylike, which again brings up the idea of being subservient to men. It also brings up thoughts Jerry Lewis shouting, “Hey lady,” or any trilby-wearing bro calling you, “milady,” their voice dripping with condescension.
In the end, how we refer to the Doctor should be the Doctor’s choice. There is power in claiming an identity. There is power in her name. There is power in her history as a Time Lord. Let’s hope the writers recognize that and craft a scene where the Doctor is definitive in embracing her identity and remembering that she is who she has always been—a Time Lord.
