One thing that’s sort of bothered me about ria is that Sokka and Zuko decided to rob the Komodo rhino ranch. It feels out of character for both of them to take such a risk when they think Zhao is right on their tail. Can you elaborate on why they made the decision? Because I feel like that event probably drew a lot of attention from the rough rhinos.

Absolutely!

I wrote it a rather impulsive decision made by Sokka that came from an emotional place & a need to be useful and protect the people he loves.

I’ll explain:

Sokka is a really smart guy who is great at planning, but that tends to fall apart when he gets too emotional...

Sokka blamed himself for Zuko being captured by Zhao again, and it would be similar to the guilt he felt when his canon plan on The Day of Black Sun failed and his father and other men were captured.

In canon, Sokka made a super impulsive decision to try and fly Appa to the most heavily guarded prison in the Fire Nation, alone, to rescue his dad. Without a plan, which was very unlike him. But Sokka was acting on emotion and when he does that he doesn’t perform at his best. (There are a few other examples of Sokka not thinking clearly because of his emotions, but I felt the Boiling Rock situation was the best example)

Canon Zuko supported him and went along because he trusted Sokka and he wanted to help him anyway he could. Which is what happened in RIA (with just a bit more codependency & deeper feelings) which isn’t a great dynamic for their relationship,,, but I wanted to show that Zuko would follow Sokka into ANYTHING… even if he might think it’s a bad idea.

In RIA, Sokka found out he could use the rhino calf leather to help him create something that would help protect him from being burned. This would take some of the pressure off Zuko and give Sokka the ability to defend himself better - which would hopefully keep Zuko safe. After what happened to Zuko, and the guilt Sokka feels, he would do anything to try and protect Zuko.

At this point in RIA they were away from Zhao for about a month? Maybe a little more? (Sorry vague timelines make it hard to track it 100%) but of course the fear of Zhao was still there… it just wasn’t as intense as it had been before. They were also unaware that the RR were tracking them ha… so that was a surprise. :D

Did the Komodo rhino calf ultimately lead to their capture? 1000000% - but Sokka had no way of knowing this and he thought his plan worked. Even if they didn’t end up killing Boots lol… Sokka still got his boots and no one died. (Well... not totally true but no one IMPORTANT DIED)

I hope that clears up my logic behind that decision… & now Sokka has badass boots to fire bend with Zuko :D soooooooo win/win? :D

mailee+zuko hcs

follow up from this post because I can’t stop thinking about it so here goes

mai and ty lee like to go on dates but sometimes they drag zuko along with them too when he’s tired or stressed out due to his Firelord duties. they usually have a good time together because mai and ty lee truly love and want the best for zuko but it also means. there’s not much Alone time for these two.

mai and ty lee standing on a bridge under the full moon, about to kiss, ty lee: isn’t this just romantic. just you,me an-

zuko sitting on a nearby bench eating a dumpling: and me! :)

zuko goes to the turtleduck pond to feed them whenever he has free time and sometimes mai and ty lee would join him too. zuko would sit near the lake to feed the turtleducklings, mai and ty lee sit slumped under the tree while the three of them make small talk. its all very peaceful and zukos happy that his childhood friends r still there besides him even after all that mess. of course he misses the gaang a lot but they r not always there so having mai and ty lee w him greatly helps alleviate some of his stress and loneliness

sometimes suki would join them and she and ty lee would spar while donning full kyoshi warriors uniforms and mai would look longingly at ty lee like a lovestruck schoolgirl

mai: isn’t she just wonderful? She’s so sweet and strong at the same time. I’m so lucky

zuko: haha u gay

mai: I will sneak into your room and put roaches on your bed

not mailee but whenever zuko is too exhausted (both physically or mentally) to go on meetings mais like ok give me the firelord headpiece and just rolls into the throne room and goes ‘alright whats up’

(after that he decided to make her the honorary firelord)

(bonus sokka and zukka)

so remember that mailee sometimes drag zuko on their dates right? One time it went like this

ty lee: the moons so beautiful tonight. You know who else is beautiful? ;)

mai: you

ty lee: you

zuko: sokka

mai: what

ty lee: what

zuko: what

anyway so that’s how they Knew.

when the gaangs visiting and all three of them r greeting zukos friends mai keeps sending zuko a normal persons equivalent of a shit-eating grin but sokka doesn’t know that and just thinks that they’re sending each other lovey doves eyes and goes ‘hey there lovebirds there’s other people around here’ and mai just stares at sokka. while holding ty lees hand. meanwhile ty lee just stands there like :] because men r like that she is not Surprised. zuko just wants to die.

mai when she realized she likes ty lee: hey ty lee i really like you do you want to go on a date with me? Cool

zuko when he realized he likes sokka: *mentally*120k. friends to lovers. slowburn. pining. unrequited love

oK SO I’VE HAD THIS AU IN MY HEAD FOR TWO FKN DAYS AND I HAVE COME TO EVER SO GRACIOUSLY INJECT IT INTO YOUR MIND- THE GAANG PLUS YUE AND THE FIRE NATION GALS IN BANDS. a battle of the bands au. tHINK OF THE aRt. THE ARt wOuLd bE ePiC. n i’m thinking zukka and yueki, but zuko+suki are with mai, azula, and ty lee, and the rest of the gaang+yue in another band, and they meet at battle of the bands but yk...we got 2 sets of pining idiots yk yk. i thought this up 2 days ago and i cant stopppp(cont.)

I WAS SO EXCITED TO ANSWER THIS THAT I SAVED IT FOR WHEN MY BRAIN WOULD BE FUNCTIONING BETTER

unfortunately my brain never functions better so what ended up happening is that i maybe forgot this was in here. but i’m gonna answer now and im still very excited

i actually ended up having many thoughts based on your SPECTACULAR idea and you can def tell i know nothing about rock music or battle of the bands. but i’ve got the spirit

wait you could also make this such a pining mess cause you could have the two cross-band romances (yueki and zukka) and then you could have each in-band relationship (mailee and kataang) and then azula and toph can bond over being surrounded by lovesick idiots

wait suki with nation girls (azula especially) is so powerful i actually 😍

suki as electric guitarist? and backup singer while azula is lead singer?? zuko on the drums? ty lee on keyboard? mai on another instrument—maybe she’s on drum and zuko is also a guitarist? or an instrument im forgetting (ty lee and mai are also backup singers with suki. there’s at least one song where suki is lead singer/duets with azula). zuko writes most of the songs, but mai helps a surprising amount. suki likes to edit more than write her own lyrics

im calling fire nation + suki fan the fire (get it?) and i feel like it’d be kind of an angrier rock vibe cause these are tough kids. deep lyrics for sure. but also lots of girl power (especially cause Zuko barely ever sings so it’s all female viewpoint). moments where true fans can see emotion but overall this could be the band an angsty 13 year old would blast

no creative title for this rock group. maybe aang’s gaang? aang’s the lead singer. katara’s on a normal guitar and lead female singer. sokkas on electric guitar. yue on keyboard. toph on the drums. although aang and katara are technically the band’s lead singers theyre really big on group vocals which is what sets them apart. (yue especially provides a gorgeous harmony, it’s soft but without it the songs wouldn’t be the same).

they still have a rock vibe, but i gave katara a regular guitar cause you know she’s an indie bitch and as the main writer she does get that in there. aang and yue do the music writing, katara and sokka (usually separately) do most of the lyrics, toph helps both but usually just when they’re stuck

the kind of rock that actually has encouraging lyrics and family vibes cause katara is wholesome. some of sokka’s depresso bits sneak in there too tho

okay battle of the bands. sokka hates zuko from day one cause he looks so good-looking and full of himself and even ignored sokka when he tried to introduce himself. (spoiler alert, zuko’s hearing loss + playing the drums = one oblivious boy

zuko sees sokka day one and says pretty boy—no, no. competition. gotta stay focused and crush the competition

at some point (i kinda like the idea of suki and yue kinda knowing each other and just being friendly/competitors. and then one day....) yue realizes that suki is way too damn pretty. and suki wants to hear more of a certain soft voice

when zuko and sokka get together, yue threatens to tell katara if sokka doesn’t use his new boyfriend to get yue and suki together

lucky for yue, zuko and suki were having pining sessions together and are more than happy to start going on double dates

actually kataang is established and cute. i think mailee isn’t and they should take longer than zukka/yueki cause they’re idiots (loving). but the night of some big show, zuko and sokka both dont show up cause they were locked in a closet. everyone’s pissed, fraticide likely on both sides

after the reveal of zukka, reporters are looking for more dirt on both bands. yueki gets exposed and yue tries to deny it

suki is upset, but yue eventually admits it’s just the internalized homophobia but she loves suki and does want to be with her

neither half of the couples want to compete with the others, and the rest of the bands are getting conflicted cause friendships

they become one Super Band (is this possible??? seems super cliche but whatever)

on their debut show, ty lee and mai kiss for the first time (unplanned) and if this was a movie instead of a tumblr post, it would end with azula and toph’s shared look of aro pain at being surrounded by so many damn couples

Chapter 32 - Fire Lord

"Ugh!" Stolos wake up, sweating. It was already morning, he realized. He wasn't feeling like doing anything, so he skipped the morning hygeine with a simple snap of his fingers which took care of it.

He entered the kitchen where Mich was already drinking his freshly made lemon juice.

"Morning," Mich greeted his brother in their tounge.

"Hey, where's Credence?"

"Went to Lydia's... is it just me or does he like that little brunette?" Mich giggled.

"You are the one to laugh, you're all over Tommy."

"Hmm, maybe. What was that shriek about? Bad dream?"

"Yeah..."

"May I ask about what?"

Stolos went to the espresso machine and turned it on. He leaned against the counter and looked out of the window.

"Just a memory..."

"Hm?"

"You know, about when I got my accessory on my face during that Agni Kai with Ozai."

"Well, that hasn't been here for a while."

"Yeah."

"Are you okay?"

"I don't know. It made me think about some people."

"Oh yeah, I think of these times more often than it's healthy to be honest."

"Yeah... it was one of the most wild lives we had, huh?"

"It indeed was, Fire Lord Zuko," Mich said with a smile.

"Oh, shut up, Sokka."

Two days have flown by quickly and the day Thomas had to make a decision came.

It was five minutes to noon. Thomas stood in front of the café nervously. He wasn't sure if to enter or not. He kept standing in front of it, massaging his wrist anxiously. He had thought about it quite a bit but with that a lot of childhood memories came with it. He was brought up to be basically the weapon which destroys the brothers. He failed miserabely, though. And now... he is meeting him in a café as if nothing had happened.

"I cut him into pieces, for god's sake," Thomas thought and froze at the spot the moment he heard his voice. "Hiya, quite on time, are we?" Michendros stood suddenly besides him.

"When did you get here?" Thomas asked slowly.

"Um, I just walked over here. You seemed to be busy thinking about something, so you didn't notice me."

"Are you prying in my head?!" Thomas raised his voice in anger, facing Michendros.

"Oh, no, no," Mich raised his hands in defense, "just a lucky guess, I suppose. Shall we go in?"

They sat down at a table outside and Mich ordered a big meal for himself. Thomas ordered just a glass of water, however.

"Aren't you going to eat anything?" Mich asked with concern.

"This is merely business, isn't it?"

"Hmph, I guess," Mich said a bit disappointed as he sipped from his wine.

"So, there's no need to order a bunch of meat like you just did."

"Haha, I am sorry. I just love well prepared meat courses."

"Of course you do."

"So, how have you decided about the business?" Mich asked, leaning back in his chair. His carefree attitude suddenly vanished and Thomas lost his previous confidence.

"Uhm... I don't think... I can accept your teachings."

"So, just your mojo back?" Michendros asked.

"Well, yeah... I just–"

"Done, you can go now. I am not gonna keep you here against your will," Michendros said flatly and reached for his glass of red wine.

"That's it?" Thomas asked. He did feel a bit differently than before. Better and finally reconnected. However, Michendros' sudden disinterest surprised him. It even offended him slightly. Thomas didn't know really why, though.

"Well, yeah, what do you want me to do? I gave you two days to decide. And you did. I am not going to beg you if that's what you were expecting," Michendros said, leaning forward again and supporting his head with his hands, "or did you really think that? I don't need to teach anybody anything."

Thomas felt his breathing become heavier. It took just a second to change this man from a easygoing guy to someone who made Thomas heart rate go up in fear.

"Ah, stop that," Michendros said.

"Stop... what?" Thomas said, his voice cracking.

"I don't know what your mommy brainwashed you with, but me being direct and honest with you doesn't mean I'll pluck your pretty blue eyes out."

"Uh-"

"Believe it or not, I was once also just a person. And yes, I could do unimaginable things to you, but hold your horses. Not everything I and my brother do is senseless murder."

"But... you do murder," Thomas muttered.

"And you cut me into pieces and threw me all around the world," Mich said and smiled with entertainment, "when you live our lives, things aren't always so straight forward and crystal clear."

"Hm, I suppose not," Thomas said and looked down at his hands in his lap.

"Funny, I told you to leave and you are still here. Looks like you might be slightly interested in me after all."

"What? I am not interested in you."

"Oh, sorry my phrasing," Michendros smiled sleekly and finished his glass, "I meant more in what I can give you."

"I don't... know," Thomas admitted, "I don't know what I want."

"That's fine," Mich said and started eating his meal the waiter just brought to him."

"But you said I had only two days–"

"Well," Mich interrupted him with a full mouth, "that was just thrown in there, I don't really care how long you take – I am immortal, you see?" Mich laughed at that, choking a bit on his food.

"Oh...," Thomas quietly said.

"It's you who's time is ticking," Michendros said after he calmed his coughing down.

"What does it matter, though, to learn all that and then just... die anyways," Thomas thought out loud.

"Well, the great wizards and witches were able to prolong their life, of course. But they were quite skilled. It needs a lot of patience, practise and dilligence."

"You think... I could do that?"

"I don't know, I haven't really looked into your abilities yet."

"What do you mean?"

Michendros gestured to his head with a finger. "You know, in there and a bit," his finger moved to his chest and made a little circle: "and there."

"You mean my mind and heart?"

"If you want to keep it romantic, then yeah," Mich giggled and finished his last piece of chicken.

"I didn't–"

"Yeah, calm down. I meant more like your cognitive abilities, chakras, energies and stuff. Oh, mister, can we pay please? I'll take the water, too," Michendros said to a waiter who was nearby and paid the check.

Thomas kept sitting in the chair like as if he was glued to it. He was a bit intrigued by what Michendros was saying... but he was still torn up inside. Should he really give in? Go with this tall dark haired man and leave everything believed in?

"Are you coming?" Michendros pulled Thomas out of his thoughts. He was standing next to Thomas and waiting for him to do something.

"Oh... yeah. I am gonna give you back the money–"

"Forget the water, come, let me take you to a place I like," Michendros said and with that, they appeared on a big meadow near the coast. Thomas again lost his balance after the arrival to the new location. However, as he fell back, his fall was stopped by something both soft and hard.

"You need to get these under control," Michendros laughed shortly as Thomas fell backwards on Mich's chest.

"I did not expect that!" Thomas defended himself.

"Yeah, my bad. Look, though," Michendros nodded to the sea in front of them, "isn't that a nice view?"

"Um, yeah... but why take me here?"

Michendros shrugged and said: "I thought it could be a nice place for us to have a conversation. About what you want and so. You can ask me whatever you want. That may help you decide, huh? Whatcha say?"

"Oh...," Thomas said and looked at Michendros.

"Is it just me, or am I being hit at?" Thomas thought meanwhile Michendros looked at him with interest.

Sailor + Merman AU

Did someone say Sailor Zuko and Merman Sokka? No? Well you're getting it anyway

Ships: Zukka, with a side of Yuekatlee, Azujin, and Maisuki

Zuko's banished sent by his father to look for something that will restore his their name

Zuko's crew consists of Suki, Mai, Ty Lee, Aang, and Toph

Suki and Mai are co-first mates and act like the ship parents; Ty Lee's the hyper lookout, and Aang and Toph are like the chaotic younger siblings that like to cause trouble, but Aang does it accidentally and Toph does it purposely

The merfolk chief is Hakoda, and while he loves his kids, he worries about Sokka and how he always sneaks out to explore

Sokka always sneaks out because 1) life is boring in the palace, 2) ever since Katara got engaged to Yue, Hakoda's been pressing Sokka about marrying as well, and 3) the human world seems so interesting and, well, free

Sokka gets caught up in a storm and washes up on a beach

Suki finds him and brings him onto the ship

Zuko: Suki wtf is this

Suki: dunno just kinda found him on the beach

Zuko: you what

Sokka acts like he has amnesia to cover how he doesn't know shit about human life and so no one asks about his past

Someone: *says something inaccurate about merpeople*

Sokka: *does everything in his power not to correct them so he doesn't blow his cover*

Zuko hears Sokka singing one night and feels mesmerized by the sound; he's so certain that Sokka is a merperson but the rest of his crew laugh it off and tells Zuko he might be falling for Sokka instead of being hypnotized by him

They stop at a place with a pub. Guess what happens.

By the end of the night, Aang's singing incoherently on top of one of the mast poles, Toph's throwing up over the side, Ty Lee's lying on the deck mumbling about something, and Mai and Suki are nowhere to be seen.

Zuko wanted to get drunk as well, but Sokka, having never touched alcohol before, underestimated his limit and got really wasted, so Zuko tasked himself with taking care of him

Sokka lets it slip that he's the prince of the merpeople but Zuko takes it as drunk babbling and doesn't acknowledge it; what he does acknowledge, though, is when Sokka leaned in really close to Zuko only to burp and pass out on him

No, Sokka does not remember what happened last night and oh no did he say something?? Luckily Zuko forces himself not to act weirdly around Sokka but this means of course he does act weirdly but Sokka is also doing the same thing and the rest of the crew are just done with their bullshit, they don't need to see this gayass flirting this early in the morning ffs

Mmm the merpeople kingdom is in shambles because where in the seven seas is Sokka?? Katara is considerably moodier, Hakoda's breaking down every three seconds. remember this bc it's vital

Late night talks?? Maybe??? Zuko knowing what the mission his father sent him on is really about and Sokka understanding the feeling of feeling trapped under a parent's expectations

feelings begin to blossom weewoo

The crew encounter a merperson and while most of the crew get mesperised by them, Sokka confronts them and maybe they have an epic underwater battle but it ends with Sokka not being able to kill them so he lets them go

Oh yeah Azula is also a captain of her own ship and regularly checks up on Zuko under the guise of passing on important information, but she's really just annoying her brother

Azula: oo who's your new crewmate?

Zuko: why are you here, just say what you need to and go be gay with Jin somewhere else

Azula: you're no fun

Azula interrogates Sokka when Zuko isn't around and she knows something is a little off about Sokka

Azula: what are you hiding?

Sokka, visibly sweating: hiding? who's hiding? not me haha

he's very lucky that Jin calls Azula away before she can question him further

Zuko: sorry for my sister, she can be very pushy

Sokka: pushy?? pushy??? I felt like I was being grilled alive, what in Tui. she must be a delight at parties

The rest of the crew knows before they do? Of course, it's practically a staple in my AUs, come on

They try to make the two confess but no, neither of them realize how they feel or they do know and don't want to ruin anything

Azula reports to her father that nothing has changed with Zuko except for a new member was added to Zuko's crew. Ozai, however, had no idea and demands more information from her

So. remember how I said the merpeople are freaking out about Sokka? right well, Ozai gets wind of this and puts two and two together; oh boy, the blackmail he can do

Ozai claims he knows where Hakoda's son is and in return, asks for riches. Hakoda accepts and Ozai tells him that his son had been captured by no good sailors oh no

Hakoda is rightfully furious and goes to destroy the ship; Ozai's fuckin pumped bc he's gettin rich AND he gettin rid of his good-for-nothing son. win-win!

lmao nah tho; Iroh overhears him (he's probably a retired captain) and tells Azula, who warns Zuko

Zuko confronts Sokka about the truth but before Sokka can answer, Hakoda arrives! He sees his son in tears and his vision goes red; Hakoda almost tears Zuko's ship apart and is about to harm Zuko when Sokka steps in and refuses to let Hakoda hurt him

Hakoda: step aside, Sokka. This man hurt you!

Sokka: He never hurt me, Dad! I was the one who hurt him. I lied to him because I didn't want to leave this wonderful place. I didn't want to leave him because...I love him.

Zuko: he loves me?

The rest of the crew: fuckin finally

Ozai rages over this and attempts to kill Zuko himself but he gets stopped by so many people and also gets yeeted by Hakoda <3

The merpeople rejoice at having found their prince; they're happy that he's found a lover as well (tho some are like "ugh a human man?" but they get shut up pretty quickly)

Katara and Yue congratulate Sokka and Ty Lee maybe has a little bit of a gay panic over pretty ladies

Sokka and Zuko get married on the beach where Suki found him with Hakoda officiating
