Last year I had a chance to play Mörk Borg, which is the bleakest fantasy RPG I've ever played and I haven't stopped thinking about it since.
Tumblr media
So how'd it go?
Mörk Borg was probably one of the easiest games to learn. I made the joke at the table, if you've ever played D&D you are overqualified to play MB. It uses the D&D OGL, loosely, and is technically compatible with it, but this is not that kind of game. That's just all so you can roll your little d20.
The rules are free in the "bare bones" edition but trust me, you'll want to own the full art edition, get a physical copy and put it on your shelf. It is a gorgeous book and has a style that a lot of games lack. If I could distill about 10% of the style into my own games I would be extremely satisfied with my work.
Seriously like. Go to their website. Experience this. Do it now (or don't, I'm not your mom. But you should though).
This game feels in line with the perceived brutality of first edition d&d and its ilk. You may name your character if you like but don't get attached. You can have as little as 1 hit point and nothing pulls its punches here. Deaths are common, and expected and add to the feel of the world. You're not trying to save the world, not really. You're on the precipice of doom and you're just scavengers picking over the bones of the preeminent corpse of the world.
But you can also generate a new character very quickly with SCVMBIRTHER. Don't like your new one? Kill them and make a new one. As many as you like. It's a riot just generating these wretches and seeing what could be in store for you.
But while it is fun and also sometimes necessary to generate characters quickly like this, doing so misses out on one of my favorite parts of any RPG. The Character Sheet!
Tumblr media
To me a good character sheet is like a window into the soul of the game.
The game has this whole, doodled in the margins of your math homework, zine you found in a dirty puddle, graphited in a bathroom stall at a crust punk show ass aesthetic and the whole book is just like this. And I am eating this shit up! Here's the alternate character sheet provided:
Tumblr media
This soul appears to be a little scrunkled, can I get a new one?
Now I haven't talked about how the game plays yet or anything but just drink this in for a minute. If looking at this character sheet does not make you want to try this game then I don't know what else would!
I mean I guess knowing how the game plays would but like... Okay.
The game itself uses d20 rules, but much lighter. You have small stats, and add them to a d20 roll. No skills no proficiency bonus. You'll eat your 1's and you'll like it. The target numbers are usually pretty low, floating around 10-ish, unless you're dealing with something nasty.
You may have powers, but they seem to be pretty limited in their availability and uses. The game itself plays like D&D-lite, in that you are probably doing a dungeon crawl, or other dirty work you do as an adventurer. But you are not an adventurer, you are lowly scum just trying to make a quick buck. There's no heroics going on here. If your d&d group already plays like a bunch of murder hobos then you're basically already playing mork borg in spirit but just cosplaying as a bunch of heroes. This is the game you should be playing if you want to be a cutthroat little bastard.
The game uses Omens, a limited resource that you can use to improve what you're doing; deal max damage, lower damage taken, reroll a die (or someone else's) that kind of thing. You only get them back after a rest though so if you blow through them quickly you're at the mercy of fate (and fate is not merciful here).
Our group played Rotblack Sludge which is the introductory game from the main book. We did it in a single session pretty easily, even between doing food and a fair bit of goofing off. I imagine your group could do it in 1 as well, but 2 sessions tops for sure. There are a bunch of free adventures available on their website too if you wanted to get a little deeper! That link is to their "content" part of their site which is just an endless slew of free stuff. They really just want you to play their game. And quality enough that they know enough folks will buy it.
My main criticism of the game is that I'm not sure how this plays out in the long term. I think that narratively and thematically, the game is crushing it. But mechanically, the game is light. This is by design but I can see this turning away people looking for a long term replacement for d&d. I mean some committed groups will enjoy this forever regardless, but I feel like this has the legs for a few decent adventures before you'd wrap up and move on.
But a big part of long term games is character advancement. My understanding was that the levelling system in the game is pretty light to non-existent. It didn't come up in a one shot for obvious reasons. I'll admit I only own the free rules at this time, I'm still waiting for my copy of the actual book itself. So I had to go to my friend who ran the game to understand how the leveling system works. There's no experience points, so the group levels together. You check to see if you gain some hit points, you check to see if your stats increase, and you get a random piece of gear.
And when I say check I mean you roll some dice and compare to current. For hit points you roll 6d10. If the result is higher than your current max HP then you gain 1d6 max HP. Roll under and you lose 1 max HP. This choice frustrates me. I actually like that there's a chance to lose HP, but is this really the best way we could do this?
Okay that's not fair that's a knee jerk response. Let's talk about why it might work this way. This is a bleak world so it doesn't make sense for your characters to be able to heroically weather any storm. They're just people who got lucky and survived. So we want the ceiling for how many hit points a character can have to be on the low side. The system does do that, but it takes a weird path to get there, which feels out of place considering this is otherwise a very light game. I'm gonna talk about dice math for a bit so feel free to skip ahead to the next orange part if you feel sleepy.
The average of 6d10 is 33 (5.5x6), which means that characters who managed to level up multiple times are at much higher risk of losing a hit point. Average result of +1d6HP means about 3 hit points a level on average (accounting for the fact that you still could lose some along the way instead of gaining them). Assuming you start with 5 hit points (you might have 1-10 depending on your class), you're looking at 9 level ups before the odds are against you to gain HP. You might think damn. That's a long time. And assuming a character even lives to see level 10. And I agree.
So why does it need to be so convoluted along the way?
To replicate this system without the cumbersome dice roll comparisons you could have players roll 1d8-2: there's always a chance you'll get -1 HP, even 0 HP. After a character has 20+ HP it could change to 1d8-3, then 1d8-4 at 30 and so on. If you don't like the idea of players losing multiple HP then just have it be that any resulting negative is only -1 hp. But this way you're making 1 roll and decreasing the gain over time, while still gaining. You could also just roll a flat die every level, but I think in Mork Borg it is very thematic to have something like leveling up, which is normally comforting, be cause for fear.
Anyway this is easy enough to home brew out and it seems like a lot of folks do that. But I'm judging the game based on how it is not how I could change it.
The hit point math is done... FOR NOW.
The way stats level up is simpler. Roll a d6 for each stat. If the die is equal to or higher, gain +1 in that stat (max 6). If it's less, subtract 1 (max -3), a 1 is always a -1. I like the idea that your stats could fluctuate and that high stats are not safe bets. A few levels and weird rolls later and your worst stat could end up being your best. I think this part could be controversial but I like it and I like how they do it!
But there's not really much more to advancement than that. This is fine if you're just playing a short game. But you hear stories about people running campaigns for years on end and I guess... I just don't see that happening with Mork Borg. I might say it's not that kind of game but it actually kinda is though? They have rules for long term games.
The Calender of Nerthrubel fortells the end of the world. When 7 miseries have been accumulated, the world ends. At the start of the game you choose a die to roll for Miseries; as little as 1d2, as high as 1d100. The game master rolls the die and on a 1, the world gains a misery. So the size of the die does determine the upper limit of the game, but it is possible for the game to be over in as little as 7 in-game days regardless of the die type chosen. This is a very interesting mechanic! In fact I think it's one of the most interesting parts of the game! Most games struggle with a sense of urgency. Short of "you have 48 hours to save this prince" or "if you don't return with 25 wolf noses tomorrow you don't get paid", it can be hard to wrastle the players together to try and save the world in a timely manner. Meanwhile in Mork Borg your days are literally numbered. I can't imagine the tension that would come from being on your 6th misery knowing that every single day could be the last. That is truly bleak.
The role-playing opportunities in this setting for someone trying to grasp at the last ray of hope in the darkness, to fight against fate, or to battle the darkness within is truly incredible. The Dark Souls series has already probably come to mind by now for you and it's hard not to see that as an influence or at least a spiritual contender. There is something to be said about overcoming the odds and surviving in a bleak world. The Dark Souls franchise and periphery games have thrived on that for years. But when you die in that game, you come back you just lost some progress.
You don't come back when you die in Mork Borg, you just die.
So with no significant character advancement in the game, how do you meaningfully advance a character in a game like this? The game literally urges you not to get attached to your character. It's a bit tongue in cheek about it but it's not wrong.
At our table I was the only one who survived start to finish with the same character. And that wasn't from skill on my part i got a lot of dumb luck! We had 6 players and I think we had about 10 deaths? One player was on their like 4th wretch by the end of it! This seems excessive and I don't know if this is a standard experience, but we understood that's kind how it would go beforehand so our expectations were pretty set.
While I am sort of criticising this aspect, there is something pretty thrilling about going into a game without being too committed to your character. It makes those moments where you do realize them as a character in the narrative all the more meaningful, and more tragic when they die a terrible meaningless death. Nothing is precious in Mork Borg not even your life. So make the best of what you've got while you still have it.
Mork Borg is definitely not a perfect game.
But I cannot stop thinking about it and would drop any game to play it again, or even run it.
(and that's not even to speak of all the Borg spin offs like Pirate Borg, Orc Borg or CY_BORG!!!).
If you already play D&D or Pathfinder, Mork Borg is definitely worth your time to try, because you already know how to play it. It might not be for you, but if you go with the free rules and play a free adventure the only thing you're out is your time.
If you play other RPGs and enjoy dungeon crawls or hack and slash game play, this is still a great choice and will be easy to pick up and try.
If you're new to RPGs, Mork Borg is maybe a pretty weird one to start with, but is a really polished experience to try and a really easy game to cut your teeth on, so still not bad!
If you're more interested in character role playing, then Mork Borg might not be what you're looking for, but there are so many interesting narratives that can be explored here that I think would be really interesting and hard to replicate in other games!
If you're a power fantasy gamer, then I think Mork Borg might be a skip for you. Unless your power fantasy is to be a lobotomized mouse in Alley Cat Alley. No judgment, you do you.
If you took one look at the characters sheets up top and said "oh hell yeah I'm gonna play that!" and didn't read the rest of this lengthy text then we are already best friends but alas you'll never know it because you didn't read to the end... Oh well.
Now excuse me, I'm gonna dream about being ripped apart by a skeletal ooze and dying a painful death tonight (affectionate)!

The Kill Club by Wendy Heard
This review WILL contain spoilers, because I love to gossip and analyze.
The Kill Club is written with some honestly pretty engaging emotional moments, a VERY juicy plot concept, and characters that repeatedly forget to be complex because the plot needs to happen.
Overall, I liked it, but there's some final act drama that really embodied the subtle problems with the entire book-namely, that characters will act motivated by story need and not character motives. I would recommend reading it, even if it wasn't my cup of tea I know it would satisfy many people.
The plot- abusers should die. Here's a dyke biker with sleeve tats who loves her kid brother*, but doesn't have custody of said kid brother due to foster home custody nonsense. She witnesses some crime, gets a shady flip phone, and all of the sudden she's told that if she kills a person she's never met, someone else will kill her abuser for her and she will never get caught. This is the set up and call to action, and it rocked. From here on spoilers and plot summary will be rampant
*he's her kid kid, but this book has three plot twists so I'm not even going to bother with this one
Don't worry about the plot. Most of the plot, while engaging, is really not done justice by a internet summary. Because the plot is Not about events as much as it is emotional moments- Jazz begging Carol to let Joaquin have his medicine, Jazz feeling desperate and angry and worn down in turns, Sofia's desperate attempts to get her kid back, the dawning horror when you realize that redheaded dude you only knew for one chapter just became a canary in the coal mine for the club killing it's 'failed' members.
The plot, without those strong character motivations that tie the actions into a whole, becomes honestly kind of...trite. Jazz runs around not getting help, and has a moral backbone that's completely out of place. Okay, bouts of rage...but only rage that's on 'proper' targets. Trespassing, but only to being medicine to her kid. The narrative bravely shields her from any chance of succeeding at her darker urges, like when she wants to kill Carol and there's randomly another operative there, cosplaying as Carol, completely blending in with church goers, oh and also apparently you're free to run around at church and aren't bound in pews like bookmarks in a dictionary.
Sofia is an upright (but not uptight) vice principal, who gives a straight girl tm hug in one chapter and then initiates make outs in another. While I won't pretend to be well versed in LA county schools, I feel like the type of school Carol would send her kid to would not love a lesbian vice principal. LA religious fanatics seem to group together, only floating around to evangelicalize in public.
A twist is that the person behind the shady phone calls is a cop. No, this does not seem to be foreshadowed, but if I missed it I'd love to be wrong. Then she gets killed in what is honestly a pretty cool scene. Then, plot twist! The killer is actually TWO cops! In a trenchcoat!! And cop 2 is going to bring Jazz back into the main plot for no reason but to build last page sequel suspense.
Sofia had a moment where I thought a really interesting conflict of interest would occur. I thought she might attempt to murder Jazz. I was in fact excited for this. Unfortunately, Heard's characters aren't allowed to actually do anything too dubious, so for no particular reason she's tasked to spy instead. And she's so guilty about it, and not at all cutthroat like she was earlier about protecting her kid mama bear style.
Jazz also manages to avoid any morally bad killing, for honestly pretty weak reasons. Oh I know this dude... Oh sorry got my ass beat... Oh I meant to kill an abuser but I accidentally killed an murderer. Jazz also isn't allowed to be in the wrong about Joaquin's situation either- years of neglect (honestly a harsh word, but not inaccurate) by allowing Joaquin to be in an actively dangerous house is brushed off with an oh I guess I was scared.
Honestly, the worst thing about the kill club is how empty it is. Again, there are genuinely strong emotional moments, complex characters, and cool settings. But the plot itself is paper thin, and if I took a shot everytime a character contradicted themselves to further the plot I would be one of the random homeless junkies that pop up whenever Jazz is thinking. Did I mention the random homeless junkies? In all fairness, it is set in LA, but the way they only existed when Jazz was upset made them like magical depression fairies.
Anyway, I would recommend this book, but I advise you handle it gently lest the plot crumble under your fingers. For those who care, the gay sex is fade to black, pretty much every character who stays alive is a woman, and there's some bomb ass quotes to put out of context on Instagram.

random astro observations pt 2!!
⭐️ cancer risings aren’t always the most cuddliest and nicest and people centered. They actually might not like children sometimes and they can be selfish. I’m a cancer rising and the thought of children makes me like 🤨 they are also often the first in the families to do something (fame, not having kids, having their own businesses etc.)
⭐️Aries suns are hot. there I said it. Omg. they will keep you up until 8 am. I had this Aries friend and she wouldn’t let me sleep until I stayed up with her til then 😭 very fun and are sweethearts
⭐️geminis— don’t hurt me ik how y’all like the tussle — they aren’t THAT bad. At first they’re quiet then when they’re comfortable they become lil gremlins. They are … annoying yes 💀 but they have the biggest hearts. They will harm you (playfully)
⭐️omg so virgos— I love them my favorite people ever but they have this problem with sharing unsolicited advice!! My god dad and my mom don’t get along bc he likes to try and force (take that with a grain of salt.) her beliefs on her. But she’s also like very fixed so that’s also why. But they come from a good place most of the time.
⭐️Scorpios like to look up things before they do something. Idk maybe it’s because they are just naturally observant but they take their time with making decisions before they act on them.
⭐️hehehe Taurus women are she devils. Yes this is biased. My little sister is so—😣. And she has a Gemini venus. Scary.
⭐️cancer women gossip a lot like they know all the tea— you would think air signs know everything— wait until you meet a cancer woman. She will tell you what happened between Todd and Samantha in the bathroom yesterday 👀
⭐️Taurus moons just want to be loved and understood. They may have a hard time loving themselves.
⭐️libra venus don’t like it when you buy things for them— they feel bad :((
⭐️Gemini moons are cutthroat with their words and comebacks. My cousin has this and we don’t talk anymore.
⭐️cancer moons (🙋🏾‍♀️) are mean too but like they would say things that would actually hurt your feelings. Esp if they bottle up their emotions and keep their observations to themselves
⭐️a person with air and water placements might like anime and or they cosplay. Libra, Gemini, and Pisces moons. From what I’ve noticed.
⭐️I’ve noticed that Scorpio placements tend to stay in toxic relationships for a long time— just to see if they can fix you or bc they hope that you’ll change :( honorable mentions : Pisces placements, Libras,
⭐️Pisces Mc are sooo creative. They like to heal and they might feel spiritually attached to art or healing people. They make great musicians and have a great imagination. (Might do a mc post soon!)
⭐️Pluto in the 6th house might have troubles with sticking to routines or they might be the type to not have issues with their body. They’re always changing and learning. They keep themselves busy so they don’t worry about themselves. But are great at helping others.

valentine’s winner
Tumblr media
after the final competition, you decide who’s won the day with you. basically, solomare is full of cowards and i wanted to pick a date.
gn!reader, no pronouns used, no traits of reader defined at all (including skin color)
cw: mentions of alcohol in simeon’s part
inspo from @simeonsaysobeyme for sol’s history and simeon’s date <3
small text only for description
Tumblr media
Twelve faces stare back at you after Diavolo announces it’s time for you to choose the winner. The amount of pressure over a date is ridiculous, but there was one who stood out to you. Taking a deep breath, you stand up straighter and close your eyes.
“I pick…”
Lucifer
“Of course you made the best choice.”
Acts completely unsurprised.
He’s all smug smiles and lording it over the others, but there’s red brushed across his face and ears.
While the Anti-Lucifer League (and Mammon) rant about your poor taste, he draws you in for a quick kiss.
Absolutely not to rile them up further. Definitely not.
Privately much softer about it, as per the course with him.
“Spending the day alone with you is a better gift than any I could have received.”
Plans a date at the symphony for Valentine’s Day, followed by dinner at a restaurant of your choice.
Extremely formal at first, since he has no idea how to be anything else.
Loosens up a bit when you pull him into a dance after the symphony, still humming the music.
People are staring and you’re right outside the concert hall, but he’s enthralled with your easy smile.
It’s hard to feel foolish when you’re giving him the grin you reserve just for him.
Mammon
“YES!”
Takes him a minute to realize what he actually won.
Cue stuttering and blushing and downplaying how excited he is.
His brothers take the opportunity to mock his tsundere ways, but he’s not exactly paying attention to them.
He recovers fairly quick with his ego.
“Why wouldn’t ya wanna spend the day with me?”
Kiss the sore winner on his flushed cheek to watch him blue screen.
Date is the Devildom’s version of go-carts.
Bet him kisses for each round he wins.
His competitive nature will kick in and make all of the races cutthroat.
But he’s flustered when you pull ahead on the final lap.
“You beat me! What’d’ya want as your prize, human?”
Just a kiss and that lovesick look in his eyes.
Leviathan
Sorry, did you think he’d be able to form words?
His brain shut down the second you said his name.
After he reboots, expect some version of his usual spiel.
“Me?? Are you sure?? Why would you want—“
Best idea is to start planning your date right then and there if you don’t want him to collapse.
He’ll come back to himself as soon as you suggest karaoke.
Bonus points if you agree to cosplay and sing anime intro songs together.
“This one’s from I Thought Confessing Was the Scariest Part, But Now We’re On a Date and I’m Terrified! It really picks up in season 3…”
Not many people really listen to him or even pretend to.
Your unwavering attention might just boost his confidence enough to hold your hand.
Just be careful not to startle him so bad he gets a nosebleed.
Satan
“I’m glad I was able to win you over.”
Probably one of the most chill about it. Just a happy smile and blushy face.
Secretly relishing in the disappointment of a select few of his brothers, but he’s not going to be obvious about it.
Expect him to call you “valentine” as a pet name for a while, though. Both to be cute and to rub it in their faces.
“Good morning, my valentine.” with a quick kiss on your forehead the next day at breakfast.
Date is an antique store that also specializes in rare books, followed by a trip to a cat cafe.
“This one is an old collection of Devildom fairytales. Would you like me to read you my favorite?”
Read to him after he’s done, with his head in your lap and a cat sitting on his chest.
He might not have ever stepped foot in the Celestial Realm, but he’s sure this here is better.
Asmodeus
“Yay! The two most beautiful people in the Devildom on a Valentine’s Day date? I can just see the Devilgram photos now!”
You’re a bit more covered in lipgloss than you were a few minutes ago, but his excitement is contagious.
Honestly, though, this is pretty restrained for him.
He will rub it in Mammon’s face. Distract him with more kisses to tone down the mean girl attitude.
Your outfits are coordinated for the date, not matching.
“Matchy-match just invites comparison, darling! While you may not be me, I don’t want you to feel the least bit dimmed on our date!”
You take tons of photos, but your favorite is one of the pair of you in mud masks at the salon making faces at the camera.
It’s awful and there’s mud in your hair and he’s grinning with all his teeth, but that’s the Asmo you love.
He sets it as his lockscreen, even after whining about how unflattering it looks.
The happiness in your eyes is worth it.
Beelzebub
“I can’t wait to try out all the Valentine’s Day specials with you!”
Another surprised one. Wasn’t expecting it, to be honest.
Very little grumbling from the others, because he just looks so thrilled.
Your choice whether to bring Belphie with you, but Beel would be happiest with both his favorite people there.
If you’re against inflicting him on poor service industry workers on the busiest day of the year, suggest a meal at home with a movie marathon in your room.
“Everything tastes better with you here, so I’m happy no matter what we do.”
You may have to use the pacts to keep the others away, but it’s for a good cause.
Cook up a special meal and spend the evening cuddling with the Devildom’s biggest marshmallow.
Belphegor
“You wanna spend the day with me?”
Smug Part 2. The worst kind of sore winner.
He’ll tease you relentlessly for liking him, even though he’s more awake than you’ve seen him in a while.
Your choice on bringing Beel or not. They are kind of a packaged deal.
Date is a planetarium trip.
They have both the Devildom’s sky and the human world one.
Whispers the stories of the constellations you’re unfamiliar with in your ear as an excuse to be closer to you.
“Just over there are Beel and I’s stars. The constellation next to them is meant to be…”
Falls asleep on your shoulder muttering about how no star in the sky could compare to you.
Diavolo
“Oh, this will be so much fun!”
Literal sunshine in demon form is practically glowing.
A bit surprised you picked him, but he isn’t going to question it.
Rein him in before he starts trying to buy you a cruise ship or something.
Belphie and Mammon are the ones pitching the biggest fit about your choice. And Luke, but Barb’s distracted him with macaroons.
He’s gonna take everything he’s ever learned about dates from human media and go overboard with it.
Flowers? Yes. Too many. Even Asmo is complaining.
Cancel his fancy reservation and tell Barb to lay out casual clothes for him.
Pack a picnic basket and drag him out to the beach.
Just the two of you on the sand, watching the waves.
Promise he’ll love it more than any over the top outing.
Barbatos
“I’d love to spend Valentine’s Day with you.”
No, he didn’t see this coming. Of course he wouldn’t misuse his powers like that.
Diavolo is delighted, especially since his friend’s ears are suspiciously pink.
And honestly the others find it hard to argue with your choice.
His first instinct is to plan and take care of everything. You’re not going to change his mind easily.
Snap him out of butler-mode by suggesting a museum trip in the human world.
“Hmm, this one has a quite famous tea shop around the corner…”
Someone seeing him for more than the role he plays is the best gift you could give him.
A speciality blend of tea from the shop to remember the day is the second best.
Solomon
“My apprentice does have great taste.”
Smug as shit.
Asmo, no. You’re not coming with.
Be prepared for seven different kinds of whining up until your date.
Leave your D.D.D. at home unless you wanna deal with a million interrupting texts.
Contrary to what you expected, he just invites you over to Purgatory Hall for the date.
“I had wanted to book us for this couples cooking class, but all of the spots were full before I could.”
Thank you, Simeon.
Instead, he opts to show you some spells and rituals he personally loves.
While he gathers materials, you find an old leather-bound book on his shelf.
Inside is symbols and text written in a language you can’t decipher, but his cramped, spiky handwriting is recognizable.
“Oh, that’s from when I was staying with Makeda. I think that region is called Ethiopia now.”
You realize you’re holding a book he wrote with the actual Queen of Sheba, and his timelessness suddenly feels like something you could touch.
He traces under a line of text with one finger and murmurs something against your shoulder. Gold swirls around you both.
“I’ve always found the most powerful magic is rooted in love.”
Simeon
“Oh, wonderful!”
He’s flustered, but trying not to melt in front of Luke.
Who’s going to argue with you choosing an angel? (Except Mammon)
That soft smile of his is enough to quiet any grumbling.
He picks you up with a lone flower, not a bouquet.
A single daisy slips into your fingers as he kisses you on the cheek.
The objective of the night is a couples painting class.
Luckily, it’s built for people of all skill levels, especially considering the free cocktails the staff provide.
“I can’t decide which blue to—I’m so sorry!”
He manages to smudge a bright turquoise on your cheek as he waves his brush around.
Both of you descend into giggles and it’s not long before you’re both covered in paint.
The staff politely, but firmly ask you to leave.
“Their loss. You’re the real masterpiece.”
Cheesy, but he’s still streaked with red paint and beaming at you.
When you kiss, the colors blend to a stunning purple.
Luke
“HA!”
Oh no. Hold him back before this gets ugly.
He was supposed to be the safe option. Now he looks like he’s puffed up with enough pride to make Lucifer’s head spin.
What do demons know about love anyway? Of course you picked your surrogate baby brother.
Your Pal-entine’s date wants to bake with you.
“I thought we could each make each other something! You were talking about that dessert you loved so much from home and…”
Cultural exchange as you show him how to make the dough the way you were taught and what spices to add.
He whips up a heart-shaped cake made of ingredients he ordered special from the Celestial Realm.
The tiny, sugar-dusted angel darts around the kitchen of Purgatory Hall, chattering to you the entire time.
Not even Simeon is getting a bite of the gift you made him!
Well, maybe one after he helps you both clean up.

HELLO❕❕ heres another question sorry for disturbing you if i did i just wanted somebodya opinion but have you seen the akudama drive cosplayera on tiktok?
if you did what would you rate them my rating is 9.5/10
but thank you for reading, lots of love❕❤️
I have seen them! I don't think we should be rating cosplayers though! It can be a very scary thing to do, especially to post online for others to see and pass judgement...so HUGE props to absolutely anyone who does post their pictures online or goes to cons!
Maybe this is the perfect time to also say I've actually cosplayed as Cutthroat for Halloween with my brother last year—! Of course, I couldn't get my contacts in though which sucked because they were expensive and now they're just sitting on my desk.... I should probably change the lens solution...

you've probably been asked this before, but-- thoughts on jedi fallen order? your star wars meta/fic/etc is always my favorite and i'm very interested to hear what you think of the new game!
I liked it a lot!
So, as I’ve said before, I haven’t played it; I watched a playthrough on YouTube about a week or so after it came out, so I’d gotten spoiled for it despite trying to avoid spoilers, and the particular playthrough I watched actually had the sound cut out on two of the big scenes, so that was a disappointment.  Watching it rather than playing it means that I definitely missed some things that I’ve seen people mention about it, and I’d like to play it at some point if I can get the tech to cooperate, though that likely won’t be for a while.
I was a little wary about Cal Kestis going in because of the comments that the creators of the game had made about not wanting to have a female/POC/alien main character, but for me Cal was good enough, sweet enough, and interesting enough to overcome that.  I really liked how much weight JFO gave to trauma, living with it, and overcoming it, with Cal, Cere, Merrin, Trilla, and the other characters.  Obviously the poncho is Peak Star Wars, and BD-1 is very sweet.  And I love Inquisitors.
I know JFO has gotten some criticism for being ~yet another padawan survivor story, but Cal is so distinct from either Kanan or Ahsoka that that’s not really how it feels to me, and I think his interaction with Cere, Trilla/Second, and the Ninth Sister really make his story unique compared to the other two.  I love the beginning of the game; it’s such strong world- and environment- building, and the strong sense of Cal’s personality really comes through in his introduction (headphones, blasting music, “I’m trash, I’m just not approved trash” -- he’s peak 2019 gen Z, in my millennial POV).
As far as the actual plot goes, it’s *flips hand* pretty much eh.  It’s a MacGuffin and there’s no way around that; it’s also revisiting plot points from TCW and the Charles Soule Darth Vader comics.  I can understand why Lucasfilm would want to continue to revisit that particular plot point but also, I’m tired of it.  As far as JFO goes, the MacGuffin is mostly an excuse for the journey, which was...interesting.  There are parts of it I really liked; sorry, my dumb brain loves gladiatorial fights even if that probably wasn’t, like, necessary.  Kashyyyk was fun; it’s fun to see Saw Gerrera again even if I’m also kind of like “dude, you haven’t changed your armor in fifteen years?”  I enjoyed seeing Dathomir again even if I have mixed feelings about the choices made insofar as the worldbuilding, but Merrin was really wonderful.  The Zeffo...I still feel that the Zeffo, aesthetically, belong in Stargate rather than Star Wars; their actual use in the game also felt a bit more Stargate rather than SW, for me?  I mean, they’re also a MacGuffin, but I suppose insofar as SW go they’re on the same order as Loo Re Anno’s species from the Han Solo comic or the Rakata from the EU, so not really something that doesn’t have a place in Star Wars.
The Inquisitors. I love Inquisitors.  I don’t necessarily love these Inquisitors. I unfortunately got spoiled for the Second Sister’s reveal as Trilla/Cere’s former padawan, which kind of affected how I felt about her, and I’m also in the FB cosplay build group for Second and it’s a little cutthroat, so that affected it too.  She’s...fine?  Something about her just doesn’t hang together for me, and I can’t quite put my finger on what it is at the moment.  The Ninth Sister has such a strong personality from the Darth Vader comics, and while she’s in character between the comics and the game, it also means I was a little taken aback by her abrupt ending.  (And I note that it feels a little weird that Trilla gets the name and the tragic backstory and the personal attachment and the not-actually-redemption, but Ninth doesn’t get any of those.)  It was also weirdly surreal for me to see the Fortress Inquisitorius, a.k.a. the canon version of the Crucible from Backbone, but tbh I think the decision to put it on another planet/moon(?) in the Mustafar system actually weakened it.
I got spoiled for Darth Vader’s appearance and that was one of the places where the sound cut out on the playthrough I watched, so it didn’t quite have the effect that it probably would have done had I gone into it cold.  That said, Cal and Cere should probably be dead; as I’ve seen pointed out, Vader hasn’t been allowed to kill anyone of significance in the new canon, which kind of undercuts him.  (The closest he’s come has been Jocasta Nu in the comics.)
All right. The ending. I don’t like the ending. Not because I really thought that Cal and Cere should have refounded the Jedi Order, but because I feel like they put the destruction of the holocron in the wrong place; I think they should have destroyed it to keep it away from Vader.  The conscious decision made not to re-found the Order is really uncomfortable for me, especially in light of the way that the new canon has treated the subject over the past couple years.  I was talking about this with @reena-jenkins a while back, so I’ll just copy and paste what I said there.  (Note that this was back in November, before TROS came out.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I’ve cut most of Reena’s responses and a little bit of other conversation we were having.)
So yeah, I have some problems with the ultimate ending decision, but as usual a lot of it comes down to how that intersects with other plot lines that Lucasfilm has done over the past five/six years.
Another thing I kept thinking of throughout the game was something one of the creators said -- either in an interview or at SWCC earlier this year, I can’t remember which, that there was a lot of debate on where to put the hyphen in Jedi: Fallen Order, i.e. that it could have been Jedi Fallen: Order (though title-wise that doesn’t stand up as much).  I do like how much emphasis there is on “fallen order” -- the Jedi Order, of course, but also the Nightsisters, the Zeffo, the Inquisitors and Purge troopers as a kind of twisted version of the Jedi and clone troopers, even the structure of the Republic being corrupted into the Empire.
One thing that took me by surprise with JFO was also how much intersection it had with Galaxy’s Edge!  Not to the extent that I would have noticed it if I hadn’t already been to Galaxy’s Edge, but having gone and also having the kind of brain that literally just absorbs stuff and then retains it.  Like, for example, the Galaxy’s Edge sporks that are now no longer used because people kept stealing them; they’re used in one of the meals on the Mantis.  Cal remaking his lightsaber and using the parts you can get at Savi’s got picked up by a couple of news outlets; I think this is actually a bit unfortunate, because they went for the Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber proportions for many of his lightsaber options and in my opinion, those are less elegant proportions than usually seen in Star Wars, so it ends up looking clumsy to me.  Another proportion thing that follows Galaxy’s Edge -- the holocron, both Cere’s and the MacGuffin holocron; the Galaxy’s Edge ones seem to be proportionally a bit bigger than the holocrons seen in Rebels and TCW, and the ones in the game follows Galaxy’s Edge rather than TCW/Rebels sizing. The Nightsister zombie crate in Galaxy’s Edge may also be a JFO reference rather than a TCW one, though obviously it could also apply to both.
I really enjoyed the Clone Wars/Order 66 flashbacks, though actually Order 66 was ANOTHER place the sound cut out!  I told you that it was the most dramatic reveals where I lost sound!  I loved that Jaro Tapal was a Lasat; I also like that, as far as I can tell, some of Cal’s specific movement types (wall-running and his tendency to be like “cool, gonna climb that”) seem to be more Lasat-inspired than other types of Jedi movement we’ve seen before.  I really like the design of Jaro’s lightsaber; I remember in the promo I was confused about the fact that it didn’t seem to be proportional to Cal, but of course it’s not!  It was made by a Lasat for a Lasat!  Order 66 is always such a mess -- and actually, I’m struck by how different Cal’s and Caleb’s experiences of it were?  I think one thing that the game made clear to me is how lucky Kanan got, in all ways.
The ending is obviously setting up for a sequel; I don’t really think Cal and Cere should have survived, but it we get a decent sequel out of it I guess I’m okay with it.  I know I’m missing details in this review, but I really did enjoy watching it; I liked the characters, I liked the worldbuilding, I think it did some really intriguing things even if I don’t agree with every decision made. (And, selfishly, I like my Inquisition better than the canon one.)

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E68 (June 28, 2019)
Today’s weather at Critical Role Land: toasty, with a faint whiff of sulfur out there. Temperatures over 2000 degrees may be heading your way, along with certain death! Tomorrow: partly cloudy.

[id: overlay of Ashley victoriously “drowning Liam in a Dwarven Forge lava map. end id]
Tonight’s guests are Ashley Johnson and a slightly crispy Liam O’Brien!
Announcements: CR is going to SDCC, with a panel on July 20th in Room 6BCF! CR is taking next week off after Thursday’s episode, but will be back on Tuesday, July 9th to discuss episode 69!
Episode 68: Reflections
Stats for this week’s episode: this episode set the show record for most rolls: 232, beating episode 114 of campaign one. This episode tied campaign 2 episode 17 for the most crits, with 13 natural 20s and 11 natural 1s. The M9 rolled 63 stealth checks and 50 wisdom saves to make it across the bridge.
There’s a brief argument between Liam and Dani about whether Gibbering Mouthers or brownies are better. You can probably guess who was on which side.
Dungeon crawling is a lot different in terms of resource management with their new characters. Ashley: “It’s times like these where I don’t miss being a spellcaster.” Liam talks about how cantrips can be pretty unsatisfying and it can be tough to ration out the cooler spells.
Ashley talks about why Yasha comes out of her shell a bit during watches: “Yasha is much more comfortable one-on-one. When she’s with a group of people, she’s a little more reserved and quiet. I think she’s more willing to answer a question if it’s just one-on-one.” Liam points out that the other characters tend to pull both of their characters out of their shells, but Yasha and Caleb actually know very little about each other.
Caleb opened up about Nott with Beau because he’s comfortable around her now. Brian asks whether Caleb might eventually become closer with someone like Beau than he was with Nott. Caleb talks about how that dynamic is changing: “It’s not the same as it was. They were both much more guarded and reserved and protective because it was just them. But things change.”
Yasha’s curious about Caleb’s past. “The conversation with Nott was, to Yasha, a bit confusing. Are you being funny? Are you serious?” But it’s tough to bring that up in conversation.
Liam: “Maybe next campaign we could play a theatre troupe that’s know each other for 30 years. Skip over all this stuff.”
Liam sees Caleb as “lost and making choices-- I would say he’s not altruistic. He’s not doing things for the whole world, even though he talks about the Empire. He’s still steering toward things that would satisfy him and would bring him comfort, and that’s opened up a little to the group.”
His relationships are “not ruthless and cutthroat but an exchange of goods.”
Re: Nott’s recent accusatory behavior (and unfortunate tendency to wind up attacking Yasha in combat): “I feel like, in general, because of what Yasha has done and how she doesn’t forgive herself for it, she is very accepting of other people’s behavior. So I think with Nott, she knows that she has a drinking problem, she knows that sometimes she gets a little crazy, and even when she attacks her, it’s not super painful for her. But I think, knowing Nott’s story and knowing what she’s been through, there is a soft spot that Yasha has for Nott. I think it’s easier for Yasha to take the hits and people getting upset with her than it is for people being nice.”
Cosplay of the Week: Vex with her broom! (durnesque on Twitter, photo by Adrian Eric Morales)
“Yasha’s been in some pretty compromising positions.” (hold for giggling)
New canon: Spurt is just sleeping peacefully on Henry.
“I think Yasha has some ideas of the answers to some of the questions that she has, but I think without having confirmation, it’s easier to just go forward with life thinking, ah, who knows? I don’t remember. Ignorance is bliss. But I think that’s probably moreso a fear, is finding out and confirming what her past holds, at least the parts that she doesn’t remember. But also, I think she’s fearful now of having lost people in her life because of her, in some ways. She’s fearful of that happening again. She doesn’t know what they’re walking into. If something happens and it looks like there’s danger for the group, I think-- if anyone were lost again, I don’t think Yasha would be able to handle that.”
Caleb wasn’t too fazed at the prospect of facing off against himself. “Caleb focuses on his on wretchedness hourly. Running into his past is the thing that fucks with him the most.” Same goes for Yasha. “I think with the self-hatred Yasha has, a little bit of that was fun.”
Fan Art of the Week: Yasha getting pulled into the mirror by her double! (by EmberWickArt on Twitter)
Yasha is extremely worried about her friends expressing their determination to protect her. Brian: “Intimacy leads to tragedy for her.”
Liam talks about how, even though Beau has the self-hatred of a lot of the other characters, it’s interesting that she’s generally coming across as fundamentally a good person.
Yasha is still unsure about the source of her wings. Brian: “Was it Red Bull?” She has a vague idea of what she is, or at least what she was told by the tribe. “For Yasha, I think, seeing these surroundings, I don’t think she’s necessarily putting two and two together.”
Search for Bob Questions (SPOILERS FOR CAMPAIGN 1)
Liam had no backup if the party didn’t manage to resurrect Lieve’tel, but Matt wanted to make sure Liam would have fun playing, so she was going to wind up back with the party one way or another.
Ashley loved having Pike get to fight alongside Sarenrae; it was something she was hoping for at level 20. “That was kind of just wanting to see what Matt did. ‘Um, can my mom come? She’s pretty cool.’”
Liam: “I have beat Laura Bailey to boning Travis’ D&D character.”
Staind’s “It’s Been Awhile” was referenced eight times in the session.
“Pike is just very wholesome.” She was mad that her stuff was stolen, but they still got out. Knowing that ‘Bob’ didn’t have his wits about him made sense to her. “But it was an adventure. Pike likes a good adventure.”
Everyone suddenly starts shipping Sarenrae/Raven Queen. The specter of episode 69 is in the air.
Ashley points out that seeing the Raven Queen is especially emotionally charged for VM. “They were thankful for the help, but also, ugh, don’t remind me of this.” Only a couple days have passed.
Ashley just starts straight-up reading smut aloud. I’m not entirely sure how we got here, but I am sure that episode 69 is on Thursday.

— diana silvers , she/her , female — apparently lorelai banks , the 20 year old costume designer/youtuber , was on a bus to new york that day before unfortunately returning to a vacant town . as time passed , they’ve decided to join faction 3 , which is understandable considering they’re known to be quite optimistic + proactive , but also childish + gullible trait on a bad day . they seem to be handling this new society well . — madison , 18 , cst , she/her .
hi guys!! so lorelai is like very inspired by the youtuber micarah tewers if you have heard of her, if not then rip but here’s a lil more about her!!
INTRODUCTION.
name: lorelai rose banks age: 20 sign: taurus character inspo: micarah tewers, harper (wowp), idk just funny characters i couldn’t think of any others ABOUT.
so lorelai grew up in a little town in georgia called eatonton. it’s nothin but trees and red dirt and she loved the hell out of that place
she has a not ridiculous but definitely obvious southern twang and she aint ashamed
her parents split up when she was 9 but she’s still extremely close to them, her mom is her best friend
she has one older brother named lucas
her dad lived in west ham
she was homeschooled growing up-- her mom was kind of hippie-adjacent (as hippie as it gets in rural georgia) and didn’t believe in the traditional schooling system
she did a lot of theatre and youth groups growing up to socialize, her parents were christian although not aggressively so
she loves to sing and loves acting, but she could never do it professionally
when she was 12 she started sewing costumes for her local theatre productions, and she fuckin’ LOVED it
she started sewing nonstop and started getting really into fashion, studying the history of fashion more than she was studying her schoolwork
she got into cosplay and dressmaking specifically, and when she was 17 she started posting comical videos to youtube of her making various dresses and costumes from movies and shows. she steadily made content for a small audience for a couple of years, and then when she was 19 her videos suddenly blew up and she got to a million subscribers
at this point she was still living with her mom, didn’t go to college, but she wanted to move out, so she bought an rv for 10,000 dollars that she’d saved up since she was 16 and moved to west ham to be near her dad
seeing how receptive people were to her videos and her seamstress work blew her mind. she started selling copies of the dresses she made in her videos and was making as much money as she could possibly make handmaking dresses
she left west ham for awhile when she was 19, setting off to travel the country and make dresses, costumes, and youtube videos along the way.
her channel kept growing, and a few months after she set off to travel the country, she received a job offer from a broadway theatre for their costume design division. she couldn’t believe it and took the offer right away, hence why she was headed to new york
she took her rv first to west ham because she had to keep the rv somewhere, and she wanted to see her dad before she headed to new york
personality: she’s very sarcastic, loves to joke, very upbeat and positive, can sometimes be “too much,” she’s always talking and subconsciously loves the attention. she’s very daring and will do whatever it takes to get what she wants, but isn’t cutthroat.
she just wants to live life peacefully but doesn’t care enough to really make any change or whatever, she just wants to live in her rv and  make dresses
pls like this or dm me if u wanna plot!!

Please list your top 5-10 would-bang characters, possibly segmented by gender/sex if it makes sense to, in descending order. I need to know how similar we are. :D
I’m laughing SO HARD because we probably are similar. I mean, @lilly-white has such good taste. I will immediately answer this question.
Usually, if it has silver hair I probably want to bang it.
Lastly…. Okay, yes, now the list. No actually, I’ll place the list at the top of this answer and then place all the TMI/too-much-information text under a readmore.
.
                                           T H E   L I S T
Iason (Ai no Kusabi) King of all Seme characters. Since this list is just about banging characters, I have to put him on top.
Sephiroth - (FF7) my interpretation of him post-Nibelheim: a sane, arrogant, brilliant god and wreck of a person.
Lotor -  (Voltron Legendary Defender) See how high he is on my list? I have him in my ‘to cosplay’ list with not his name but with the text: “I HAVE SUCH A TYPE”. There is nothing about him that I don’t love.
Orochimaru (Naruto) His voice, his arrogance, the cheekbones, and the things he could do with that long tongue.
Uchiha Itachi / Sasuke / Madara (Naruto) I’ve been trying to choose between these three for 10 years now) (I like the artwork interpretation of the Japanese fan-artist ‘Lily’ best.)
^That is my hard-bargained top 5 in that order.  Now comes the rest. I still love them tons and tons, but not as much as the ones up ^there.
Kisame (Naruto) (japanse voice actor) Terrifying face/reputation/fighting methods since he has no qualms with sawing someone’s legs off. But he would make the perfect father of a child. He is muscled, chatty, caring, thoughtful, loyal, sweet, protective and reliable. If I could bang him, I would not prick but punch holes in the condoms.
Skulduggery Pleasant (books by Derek Landy) ASREON DONT JUDGE ME. He is funny, powerful, reliable, cuttroat and has this dark edge that I really dig.
Loki (as portrayed by Tom Hiddleston) Anywhere in the timeline after he arrived on Earth. I like him under Thanos control, as I like him as ‘shit annoying little brother’. I like it when he is smug: “It buuurns, doesn’t it?” (Avengers) and when he is indignant: “We are not doing ‘get help’.” (Thor: Ragnarok) yet still plays along in the end.
Oikawa (Haikyuu) because his killer volleyball serve is too sexy, as are his mood switches and his I’m gonna fuck you up-grin. He get to me every time. (Kageyama is also somewhat a fave.)
Lord Carden - Bloodlines (Character from my needs-a-rewrite novel series, Bloodlines. Yes, I want to bang an OC, but in my defence, Lilly also once mentioned wanting to bang him. My friend Jack did too. He is a mix between Iason and Kisame: cutthroat and sexy but best dad.)
Embarrassing TMI & disclaimers & characters that didn’t make the list, are all under the cut!
Disclaimers:
The order listed below is from top(best)-down(last) and always subject to change depending on my mood and fandoms.
These are characters I would want to bang - not the ones I would sign up to spend the rest of my life with (in most cases that’d be an awfully short life).
I may change this list if anyone brings in better suggestions.
I can’t decide whether I want to sleep with these people, or want to be these people (role models).
TMI
I’m still in the process of trying to figure myself out. I have lived my life as a loner or as a quiet follower (because speaking up was often discouraged in my social circles).
BUT
My younger brother recently pointed out to me that in almost every relationship there is a leader (the person who initiates plans and decides what and how) and a follower-guardian (who protects the leader from doing anything stupid, this person says “that’s not a good idea” and when they put their foot down it’s DOWN and the leader can do nothing but respect it.)
My brother told me that I’m a leader type: the person that initiates wild adventures. Not the follower-guardian. So OKAY, I’m a leader who thinks she is a follower? I don’t know if I’m sub or dom.
There is this quote I’m trying to remember, said by either a gay guy or a powerful motherly woman who helps the girl-protagonist. An american production. Intonation is kind. Couldn’t find it with google. Goes something like this:
“People won’t know whether they want to hate(/fight?) you, want to fuck (/sleep with) you or if they want to be you~
That’s the quote I want to put in here.
What I usually fall for in a character:
Most of the characters I want to bang are calm, self-assured, don’t get worried fast, and are good at what they do. They firmly hold to a certain view of life. They can hold their own in a discussion. They are NEVER lazy, they are hardworking. They never have a nihilistic approach to life, they want to gain all they can get. They have an arrogance that tastes like honey to me. That cheeky, taunting, unimpressed, underhanded, self-assured, i-know-I’m-right, tone is a drug to me. Some examples are: - “Are you sure about that?” and - “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” and - “Is that the best you can do, Cloud?” and - “Foolish little brother, you’re not strong enough, ku ku ku…” That degrading tone that puts me on my place and him on a pedestal…! Yes, I find that finger-licking attractive.
But I can never figure out if those tones appeal so much to me because they are spoken from a leader perspective as if to discipline a pet, or from a follower/guardian perspective that calmly undermines the leader’s bad idea. (”Sure Mr. King if you want to follow that route… but I’ll stay here and wait until you come back”)
My current running theory is that I’m a leader who thinks she’s a follower? I’ve not levelled up enough in life to decide where I am as a sexual partner as sub or dom or switch. I’ve been a service top/service dom to 2/3rds of my partners and in the 1/3rd of the occasions I did enjoy being sub but maybe that’s because I prioritised myself there. Usually I focus on my partner and aaaah I’m rambling RAMBLE RAMBLE. tl:dr; I need to get laaaid and figure this ouuuut with a person I truuuust.
Characters that didn’t make the list, but which I wish I could include somewhere in a top 30 are these listed below. You can tell by the bolded font which names I took out of my top 10.
Maleficent (Angelina Jolie)
Cersei (Lena from Game of Thones)
Icy (Winx Club season 1)
Wonder Woman (as portrayed by Gal Gadot) because she’s a perfect. Marvel Studios gave me a female hero and a female superhuman but they did not give me a female superhero. DC did. I’m such a fan of her.
Lestat
Mai Valentine (Yu-Gi-Oh. But that says little,  I’ve had crushes on almost the entire cast. Mainly Seto Kaiba and Yami-Yugi.)
Victor (Yuri-on-Ice) when he wasn’t shown as a person with feelings but still had his idol status.
Riddick - but then again, who wouldn’t do Vin Diesel as Riddick? Especially the second movie.
Aranea (FF15) She was wonderful as a character but I am still salty she was a bit of a disappointment in the narrative, I expected she would be more involved in the narrative of the game.
V (from V for Vendetta the movie) - again the humour, dark past, power, reliability. I fall in love with him every time I watch the film. But I don’t know if I would do him with his mask off? I like the grandiose idea of him.
I’m going to risk burn marks and put Azula (Avatar series) on here.
Tahno (Avatar Korra series)
Suitengu (Speed Grapher) LYRA YOU MUST WATCH THIS. LISTEN TO LILLY. AND TO ME. WATCH IIIIIIT.
Rufus Shinra - (FF7 ACC)The smug remarks, power, face, count me in.
Pitch (Rise of the Guardians)Light (Death Note manga)
I will always love Riku (Kingdom Hearts) But since he’s so dear to me and part of a franchise for children, I don’t want to think about having sex with him but I totally want to. It’s a grey area. I like him especially when he is lost in darkness and arrogant. But honestly, I really like him in all timelines. I was not ready for KH3′s version. I will always love Riku.
Last notes:
To summarize, I like murder + power + strong worldview + smug undermining comments + smirks.
I think it is curious that I only listed male characters in my top 10. It seems that I am not as bisexual as I thought, or that modern media fails in adequate female gender representation. I could not have been offered enough female characters of the Wonder Woman quality. Now I’ll post this answer before something glitches and I lose all I typed.
Hope you liked this!

We know Saihara's favorite character was Kirigiri and Shirogane was Junko, but have you tried to guess who the rest of the cast's favs were based on how they built their own characters?
This is a really fun ask that I’ve had sitting here for a while now, because it’s really, really interesting to think about.
Most of what I have is just speculation of course, and personal feelings about which characters they must have liked based on similarities, so I’ll try my best! You already mentioned Saihara and Tsumugi, and both of those are on-point obviously, so I’ll just handle all the other characters.
One of the easiest to go with is Kaede. Sayaka Kanda has already admitted that she was told Kaede is extremely similar to Asahina, and I can really see it. The cheerfulness, the go-getting attitude—even the willingness to do very questionable things, when push comes to shove. Kaede’s decision to kill the ringleader is no less risky and dangerous than Asahina’s attempt to get the entire group killed in dr1 Chapter 4.
I think Asahina’s optimism and very strong belief in people, especially people like Sakura, is probably part of what Kaede wanted to imitate when joining the game. Basically, “I want to be that character but put into a more focal role as a protagonist and a leader.”
Amami is a little harder to tell. There are the obvious similarities in his sprites to Komaeda, but he’s really nothing like Komaeda personality-wise, and since he doesn’t know or remember much about himself outside of prison mode, we have to assume he probably only got to audition about the kind of character he wanted to play for the 52nd killing game season, not ndrv3.
Given his mysterious nature and big sibling status though, as well as their bonus mode interaction, I wouldn’t be surprised if he had used Mukuro as a sort of inspiration. Both of them travel quite a lot due to the nature of their talents (Mukuro as a soldier, Amami as an adventurer), both of them are highly protective of their siblings, and both of them act rather laid back around the rest of the group. Using Mukuro as his inspiration would also make the fact that he dies so early even more hilarious, especially since it was all because of plans the ringleader made behind the scenes.
Himiko and Hoshi I can ironically see as both having taken some inspiration from Gundam. Both of them certainly have a bad case of chuunibyou, to some degree, and while Himiko probably adored the very occult and mystical element about Gundam, Hoshi seems to have quite a lot in common with Gundam in that both of them largely prefer to remain loners, but definitely care for the well-being of the group. Either way, I’m just glad that he seems to have nothing in common with previous “joke characters” like Yamada or Teruteru.
I can also see Himiko having taken some inspiration from Maizono, weird though that might sound. We don’t see a whole lot of stage performers or entertainers in the DR franchise, but like Himiko, Maizono is someone who works tirelessly for her craft and constantly avoids confronting her true emotions about things. They don’t have a particular lot in common personality-wise, but it’s true that Tenko does bring up the fact that idols and “mages” are somewhat similar in her FTEs. So it would actually be cute if Maizono had been something of an inspiration.
Maki could go so many different ways. The most likely ones are Peko and Togami—Peko for her selfless dedication to protecting another character, as well as her terrifying willingness to kill for it, and Togami due to his unpleasant aloofness from the rest of the group, especially in the earlier parts of dr1. If dr3 counts, then throw Juzo in as well, since he’s also similarly reckless and violent. Given the whole cosplaying convention part of her backstory and her own handy skills with swords and knives, I’m going to guess Peko was probably the biggest inspiration out of all three, though.
Kiibo is a hard one to guess, mostly because we know very little about him from a pre-game perspective. If he was created by Team DR from scratch as Tsumugi says, then he wouldn’t have gotten any kind of audition. If he wasn’t (and he certainly does look different from that one glimpse we see of him in the prologue), then it’s possible he did audition like the rest of the group but was simply picked to play the part of audience proxy because he already looked physically similar to Naegi.
He and Naegi are the exact same height, after all, with similar voices and a similar hairstyle. If you assume the audience wanted to connect with someone who could “embody” what DR is all about, then it would make sense if they intentionally chose someone out of the group who looked the most like Naegi, and gave them that “inner voice” of “hope” for that exact purpose. But this is, of course, highly speculative, since again, Kiibo doesn’t even get a single speaking line in the prologue and it’s very hard to determine how much of what Tsumugi said about him was true or not.
Korekiyo is another hard one to judge, and it’s hardly a fair comparison at all, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Saionji was something of an inspiration, at least aesthetically. The bonus mode interaction between them shows that while they aren’t compatible at all personality-wise (he doesn’t even think she’s suitable to “become friends” with his sister), Saionji’s strict upbringing and knowledge about traditional Japanese dancing still interested Korekiyo quite a lot.
We don’t see a lot of DR characters with this super traditional, super formal background; I don’t doubt Saionji and her family would fall right into Korekiyo’s field of study, considering how much dance is a part of culture. So it’s hard to judge if there is any other character who Korekiyo might have based himself on (I certainly hope he didn’t ask to be so horrible on the show, but you never know), but he and Saionji exhibit the most similarities in terms of design and background.
Tenko is a pretty easy one to compare with—she’s extremely similar to Sakura. Her talent as a Neo Aikido master parallels Sakura’s martial artist talent pretty obviously, just like her role as a protector figure for Himiko parallels Sakura’s role in protecting Asahina. If anything, Tenko strikes me as having taken inspiration from the both of them. She has Asahina’s love for food (and never goes quite as wild over food as Akane, for instance) and upbeat personality, as well as the refusal to run or hide from her emotions. I kind of half-wonder if Tenko didn’t specifically go and ask to be some kind of Asahina/Sakura fusion on the show.
Gonta is… a little trickier, but I’m almost inclined to bring Gundam up again. The obvious choices would seem to be Nidai or Sakura, considering “big bara protector figure,” sure, but Gundam seems to fit a lot more with Gonta’s desire to be a “true gentleman.” Both of them die as the Chapter 4 culprits as well, and both have a very open fondness for animals. Gonta isn’t nearly as sure of himself as Nidai or Sakura are either, so I really am inclined to say Gundam is the better fit.
Kirumi’s sort of a toss-up. Both her gothic sense of fashion and her mid-trial breakdown suggest Celes as an inspiration, but she’s also far smarter than Celes and less selfishly motivated. She seems very much like someone who might have appreciated Celes’ design and aesthetic as a character, but not her motivations (or lack thereof).
If DR: Kirigiri counts as a source of inspiration, then Uozumi would seem like the obvious pick. As another maid-who-isn’t-really-a-maid, and who has a similarly serious personality, I could really see Kirumi having liked her a lot. Maybe she wanted to embody a character like that on the show, since Uozumi is only limited to light novel materials.
Angie is… another interesting toss-up. She’s somewhat similar to Mikan—she hardly puts on an act of clumsy helplessness, but it’s true that she does downplay how cutthroat and cunning she can be, and her seeming ditziness or airheadedness as a foreigner helps to mask a lot of that. Like Mikan, Angie very much enjoys having people under her who she perceives as “weak targets.”
Unlike Mikan though, she takes it up a notch, particularly seeking anyone who seems easy to take into her cult, who will do anything she wants them to. And it’s also true that unlike Mikan, we don’t see Angie demonstrate any actual willingness to kill, since she mostly seems to just be interested in self-preservation.
I’m just going to assume Mikan was a general reference for Angie because there aren’t really a lot of others who fit. Considering the racist undertones of Angie’s entire religion and home island though, that’s probably a good thing.
As for Miu, the obvious choice for loud and brash inspiration would be Ibuki, although Miu amped up the crassness a whole lot. I could also see Souda as being one of her favorites. Both of them like to talk big but are quite insecure under the surface, and want attention from other people quite a lot, even to the point of being annoyingly persistent. Souda’s mechanic talent also parallels Miu’s inventor one quite a lot, so I could see him having been her favorite character.
It’s even possible that there were plenty of mechanics or people with a similar title on the show before, but no outright inventors. Maybe Miu asked for the inventor talent for the first time specifically, which would explain why her talent blindsided the ringleader so much—they had no idea what kinds of things she’d actually be capable of creating.
Then there’s Momota. Between his audition video, his violent streak, and his talk about “promises between men,” Mondo is most likely the biggest inspiration. Like Mondo, Momota also has something of an inferiority complex and a need to prove himself as a result—his jealousy of Saihara in Chapter 4 brings to mind Mondo’s jealousy, both of Daiya and of Chihiro. I could see Mondo’s entire backstory and unfulfilled promises having resonated with Momota. The ridiculous hairstyle might also have been something of an inspiration, too.
Momota is someone extremely concerned with appearing “masculine enough” and “proving himself,” so I can’t see him having found much inspiration in any character who didn’t appear “strong,” “tough,” or “manly.” That leaves Mondo as pretty much the only option.
Finally, we have Ouma. My favorite headcanon of all time is still “Ouma hated Danganronpa and everything about it and wanted the godforsaken show to end”—which I think might be a very real possibility if he entered wanting to end the killing game from the start. But given how timid and upset he looks in the brief glimpse we get of him in the prologue, it’s also very possible that Ouma asked for one particular kind of role or talent, and was given something very different from what he asked for, just like Saihara.
I’ve always thought it possible that if Ouma had to pick any character as his favorite from the DR series, he would’ve really liked Nanami. It would explain the many, many similarities between their sprites and designs, as well as the ways in which their roles parallel each other. Assuming Ouma might have asked for some kind of role similar to Nanami’s, I could easily see the ringleader having felt it would be a much better twist if he just looked cute and innocent, but was actually an “evil Supreme Leader,” and a liar.
Either way, given everything that happens in canon and what we know about Ouma’s distaste for killing and death, he hardly strikes me as a Junko fanboy. The whole game is spent framing him as one, so it really would be the perfect kind of subversion if he’d looked up to a much more peaceful kind of character like Nanami instead.
Anyway, this got really long, but I’m glad I could finally answer it. It was a really fun ask, Comun, and gave me a lot of food for thought! Thanks for asking it!

Tag meme
So I was tagged by @voltron--trash and she gave me a little nudge today to remind me to actually do it (I'm sorry I forgot!) 1. Why did you join tumblr in the first place? Are you still here for the same reason? A friend of mine told me that I needed to get one. I really didn't understand it at first but eventually I got sucked into the void. 2. What was the last thing that made you cry? About two weeks ago my dog found some dark chocolate that was left in my room. Since she is only 8 pounds she had to go to the animal hospital and almost died. She is my baby and I had a bit of a breakdown because she wasn't looking good and I blamed myself for her being sick. (She is all better now and has no regrets) 3. What are you proudest of? That's a hard one. When I was a Girl Scout I earned my Gold Award which is the highest award a Girl Scout can earn so I'm really proud of myself that I was able to do it. 4. Who's your favorite author/fanfic author? I read so many different fics it’s so hard to pick a favorite author. The two authors whose works I've read a lot are DairyFarmer and witty_name. 5. When you're alone, what's one thing you do that you wouldn't if there were others around? I tend to think out loud. If I'm having trouble figuring something out sometimes it helps to just explain it out loud to myself. But it's a little embarrassing to get caught talking to yourself like a crazy person. 6. Favorite meme? (it's ok we all have one) That's a hard one. I'm not sure if this is a meme but I always laugh when someone writes out a number then has the number in parentheses for emphasis. That is the one (1) meme that I really like. Also the 'really, in front of my salad?!' Meme 7. Movies or TV shows? Favorites? Voltron: legendary defender is my favorite right now but I think that anyone who has seen my blog knows that. Some of my other favorites are Danny phantom, Steven universe, avatar the last air bender, Yuri on Ice, and Cutthroat Kitchen because I always watch it with my mom. 8. Least favorite music genre? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i'll listen to just about anything but I'm not a big fan of jazz or country. 9. Dream date? Im not a big fan of going out so my dream date would be getting takeout with my partner and sitting at home in sweatpants watching a movie or something. (I'm not very high maintenance) 10. Dream day off? I've always wanted to go somewhere with little to no light pollution and look at the stars. If I could curl up on a comfy couch with my dog and read for most of the day then have it end with looking at the stars that would be the best day ever. 11. If you could change your own past, would you? I don't think so. Even though some bad things have happened in the past I'm happy with who I am and where I am currently in life. I'm going to tag @adriaticmidnight @waffle-walks @spacesassmasterpidge @flyingmangoman and @voltron--trash If you want to answer my questions. MY QUESTIONS ARE 1. If you could cosplay any character who would it be? 2. What is the show/movie/book that first got you into fandoms? 3. Have you ever read fanfiction for a show you’ve never seen? If so what was it? 4. Would you rather wear a suit or a dress? 5. If you were going into cryo-sleep for 10,000 years what animal would you want to share the cryopod with you? 6. Do you dress for style or for comfort? 7. What are your favorite AUs? 8. If you could have any superpower what would it be and why? 9. Would you rather be able to draw really well or write really well? Why? 10. If you could change anything about yourself would you? What would you change?
