Aka Hawk manages to get through to Daniel, and they do talk after the surgery, but shortly after that, Daniel passes away.

Hawk is then faced with telling his friends and also confronting the fact that his one reason for going home doesn't exist anymore. He's alone.

He's supported by his friends, and he probably tells Charles first, but doesn't want to tell anyone else (Charles gently persuades him). And then he gets a furlough from Potter - who would really rather give him a discharge, but his one reason to want to go back to CC is now gone so why shouldn't he stay in Korea?

Anyway he gets back to CC and everything is so strange... and foreign, and he has to make all the arrangements, but his friends come through for him in the most surprising way - asking their family members to be there for Hawk when they can't.

Anyway, that's worse sons and bowlers AU (i know you know this lol)

Does Furret participate in Pokémon battles or are they moral support?

both actually! furret is a support pokemon! he has a moveset to help others and- ah sorry i got a "little" into competitive but you know for fun! florian inspired me to make a team that involves with pokemon i love and build it from there. though furret prefers to be my moral support. i grab him, hug him tight and i forget about my loss.

though some of my pokemon do enjoy the quiet and relaxing life so its a win-win for us! i leave some of them with my grandparents to help them around the house or do activities. i am very grateful for them!

how do you get your colors to look so nice and your lineart so red and vibrant? i love it

omg anon thank you!! 😭 im going 2 be honest I am Not Great with color theory... but i like having my sketch pages look cohesive to me...

I always sketch in neon colors it's a habit i picked up from an old teacher but I'll think of a color usually on a whim and draw with that. and then if i want to draw something else ill pick another color that i think goes well with the page. usually most of my color schemes r analogous (colors right next to each other on the wheel)

yanked this from recent dunmesh post; i kept most of my colors within the pink/red/orange range.

i wouldn't recommend doing everything in monochrome or analogous palettes though because it's sort of a guilty crutch of mine XD.

sometimes when im coloring ill change the layer mode of the sketch. color burn gets you either very very bright or very very deep colors depending on the color of the flats underneath. multiply and linear burn do the same thing but they're a lot tamer and generally always return darker colors. im sure there's some technical bits behind this though. ill either color my lineart afterward to compliment the color of the flats, leave it as is, or mess with layer modes if i feel like it. my favorite trick is color burn + linear burn + some combination of two lineart layers and just fiddling until i get a nice burn effect.

mithrun was done with crimson red on color burn.

coloring... like 999% of this is relative color which is like. kind of the idea that colors look different when placed next to each other. if you eyeball it a bit it's pretty noticeable.

what i used to do a bit ago was i would fill in the area i wanted to color with one big mask of color, make a new layer that has a clipping mask down to the flat layer of color, and then draw my actual flat colors. the color of the mask helped me pick my flat colors bc if I picked a color i think stood out too much next to the mask i could kind of just adjust it until it looked a little more cohesive.

old ish drawing next 2 a canon reference. i ignore local color a lot...mea culpa....but my overall color palette here was a light pink, so the shirt here is actually a desaturated pink? or violet i believe. if you shift sort of that purple color far enough into the gray area of your color wheel it can take on a blueish or even greenish hue. it being next to a lot of warm pinks/fuschias helps.

a neat thing that kind of helps is that if you desaturate or saturate certain colors they can kind of take on a certain hue? not sure if this makes sense. sort of how orange here turns tealish blue the grayer it gets. so if im drawing something that's predominantly orange and i have a blue color i can just take an orange color and desaturate it until i get a color that sort of looks like blue. and that way it kind of looks more harmonious? at least to me XD

shading. i don't apply serious lighting to a lot of my drawings, but a helpful bit is that the shadows tend to be the opposite of whatever color the lighting is? i try to think first about the "mood" or the main color i want to go for in the drawing and then i pick a shadow color opposite of that. so for here, i wanted the lighting to be a coolish magenta so the shadows r lime green. if there's anything off i fiddle around until i get something i like. the shadows on the skin here were too green initially so i shifted them a little more orange.

there's a "band" of color going on between the transition of the shadows to the light. generally this could be for a lot of reasons and i tend to use it differently (core shadow? overexposure? etc etc). but this is a color post so ill try not to go too off track.

but generally digital doesn't "mix" colors the same way traditional colors do if you use RGB (cmyk is a bit better with this but is kind of a pain to get used to), so to make blending a little less muddy, i sometimes add an intermediate color to smooth things out a little. for example, mixing digitally blue n yellow tends to get you gray, but generally, blue + yellow makes green, so if im making a blue->yellow transition ill slap some green color in the middle so it flows a little better.

I do a lot more cel shading nowadays. if you've been on here for a while earlier this year i have another style of coloring but it's not really accurate to how shadows really work so i wouldn't recommend looking at it. it's mostly to add zest and texture to the underlying flat colors.

coloring your lineart does a TON to helping your colors look vibrant, though its like the garnish on a dish to me (same with shadows). i think it's good to try and play with your flat colors and try to make sure those look in order first before adding flourishes. usually ill leave it a dark, saturated color that again matches my overall palette but sometimes i go in and color them by alpha locking my lineart layer and picking a color that matches the flat colors underneath? not sure how to explain it properly.

i used a darkish purple for shuro's ponytail to match the dull red of the flat colors (more relative color! trying to simulate a black/brown while keeping the pink palette there) but a lighter crimson for laios's blond. the light was this super intense like blush pink so i thought it might be cool to add this neon salmon red in the areas of that light to really give off that vibe of a very bright intense rim light.

sometimes you could also tweak with gradient maps or color balance, which adjusts hue based on how light or dark a color is. these r fun to mess with as a final touch but i need to watch using them because they can become crutches real fast XD but those are also just tools to help you. in the end just developing a good sense of how color works and how you want to use it is the best place to start.

LONGASS ramble but yeah. tldr just kind of train ur eye for color and look at what you like best. which is unhelpful and a little sucky but it really is just observation and practice and maybe some personal zest.

roy kent sick fic. it’s early on in the new season; ted’s dorothy-ed back off to kansas; roy’s in charge of about twenty professional himbos, and he’s just caught the hybrid cold-flu wreaking absolute havoc on phoebe’s school. so, like. fucking obviously he’s gonna ignore it. he’ll be fine. he will be so absolutely fine.

spoiler alert: he is not fine.

essentially this fic is me taking my love for roy kent and my love for stories about characters who point blank refuse to accept love because they believe they’re undeserving of it and frankensteining them together. there will be a gratuitous amount of fucks! there will be phoebe clumsily reading her sick uncle roy a bedtime story! there will be jamie and dani attempting to make chicken soup from the box while sam imprisons roy beneath five weighted blankets! and there will be so much love roy won’t be able to breathe around it. partially due to the congestion. but mostly due to the love.

ok another au idea i have is one i’ve talked about on here a bit but it’s been a minute

essentially the idea is that all of ghost protocol (the exploding truck, the missile hitting a building, ethan crashing the car, climbing the burj khalifa) did NOT go unnoticed by the general public

which is fair. how would you not notice a dude climbing the burj khalifa

so in order to cover it all up, the imf makes a movie. they make ghost protocol, actually. and they’re like “oh! those weird events you guys noticed? they were practical stunts for our new movie”

and then it pops the fuck off and people are like “wow this ethan character and this benji character have the craziest romantic tension i’ve ever seen” and they write fanfiction about it. benji and ethan get teased mercilessly for this, benji’s horribly embarrassed because he thinks everyone can tell he’s got a crush on ethan, ethan’s weirdly fine with it.

eventually it comes out that ethan’s been actually writing fanfiction, and benji figures that out because he’s been reading a fic that’s weirdly ?? accurate to real life ?? and then ethan says something to benji that’s nearly exactly what fic!ethan says to fic!benji

i haven’t outlined this at all because i can’t tell if it’s genius or cringefail

. . . which is exactly what it sounds like. An AU where Cal is Fulcrum XD

this one is so great for multiple reasons but mainly because it comes with the shenanigans of Kanan and Cal technically knowing each other for an entire rebels season but not actually knowing it's them. Kanan who tells Hera not to tell him anything about Fulcrum or the rebellion but then goes "oh let me tell you about the time my best friend and I pulled a prank on Yoda and got away with it" vs. Cal who hears all about this Kanan guy from Hera before probably turning around and doing the same thing to Merrin like "man I miss my best friend from the Temple. I really hope he made it, y'know?"

they don't figure it out until the rebels S1 finale along with everyone else. So there's no intrigue and mystery with the Fulcrum reveal because Cal climbs down the ladder and he and Kanan are like

". . . Cal??"

"wh - Caleb??"

"YOU'RE FULCRUM???"

"YOU'RE KANAN???"

cue a lot of yelling and a very happy reunion (and the Mantis crew sticking around for the rest of Rebels because yes)

So Josh and Amy hook up the night he takes her to "Tahiti", and flash forward a few months into the campaign, and Amy realizes that she's pregnant.

Naturally, she and Josh are not equipped for this - and Josh tries to suggest they can get married/co-parent, but she's like "would you even ask if it wasn't an election year?"

Oh, and Amy wants to get an abortion, and Josh supports her BUT he's afraid of everyone finding out and having another scandal on their hands so he definitely says something supportive but also bone-headed.

off topic tmi but for the first time in my life im being forced to make an actual wishlist for my bday to give to some friends and this is hell

Anxiety (and possibly added undiagnosed ADHD) with depression combo soup cause me to be very very avoidant of preparing/overpreparing to the point of, so to speak, setting myself up to fail. Maybe this is what they were going with with Will? I think individual experiences with GAD or specific anxiety disorders are always very individual. Some of the stuff you are mentioning sounds more on the compulsive symptom side. I don't think TSATS overall handled various mental health symptom things very well but Will's anxiety made sense to me.

I could see that, but again it doesn't feel like that's what we got with Will in TSATS? He doesn't delay preparing, he seems very intent on being prepared appropriately (again, him being over-prepared seems more of played for a joke and never really comes up again other than some of the things he packed proving useful), etc etc. Like you said, there's absolutely always going to be an individual aspect - and yeah, my anxiety personally does lean more obsessive/compulsive aspects in certain places, though not all - but I genuinely did not recognize the way Will was written in TSATS as him having an anxiety disorder. Again, at most it just reads like normal anxiety/nerves, not GAD, or seems to be related to outside elements in other elements of the plot.

In terms of him being ignorant of the Underworld, I could see that maybe being it (him being avoidant of the topic) like you said, but we've never seen any signs of that before and again, it doesn't really make sense for him to date a son of Hades for a whole year if that in particular is an issue for him? Especially when he's simultaneously repeatedly insisting to Nico that Nico is making up being ostracized for being a son of Hades and it's actually his own fault. If Will had his own preconceived notions against the Underworld, you'd expect him to believe Nico's claims that people are avoidant of him for those exact reasons rather than challenging it so strongly and consistently.

Again, I could see it if any of that was the intention, but the execution on it was severely lacking and doesn't make a ton of sense for narrative consistency.
