thank you for the WIP (whenever) Wednesday tag @nightlist!! I haven't been doing as much writing or art as much as I'd like but here's a bit of one of my recent OC WIPs with Massara and the death of their mother.

"My daelheg will welcome her with open arms when they meet, but for that we must lay her to rest.” Kasa slowly pulled back, and held out a folded swath of white fabric to Massara– and his sobs quickly devolved into blubbering wails at the sight of the shroud. He couldn't even find it in himself to be slightly embarrassed – many of the others coming to grieve their dead were doing so in silence and quiet sniffles– he felt so broken. It was all his fault.

“Daesoh, please, we need to wrap her,” A quiet voice said from beside him and Massara turned to finally acknowledge Nileyransi, her cheeks tearstained and glasses cracked. Blood flecked her face but she looked unharmed.

“No!” Massara protested, throwing himself across her and clinging to her tightly. “We can't– We can – we can bring her back! There's magic for that!”

Quiet murmurs sounded around them but Massara didn't care. He didn't care that bringing her back to life ripped her away from her place with the ancestors– that she couldn't rest in peace, or her spirit be called upon when she was needed.

Because she was needed now. She can't rest in peace when she left him and Massara wanted her back. Not in spirit – but in flesh and body and warm hands and soft voice and bouncy curls and kind smiles and dimpled cheeks.
