People need to stop fancasting Zendaya as every poc character
I love her so much and she’s probably one of my favorite actresses ever, but:
If a character is specifically dark skinned, fancasting them as zendaya is not a good thing, it’s colorism
I’ve also seen Zendaya being fancasted as Piper from HOO (who’s cherokee so native america) or Flora from winx club (who’s based off j-Lo so mixed Latina) and those are other minorities, different from afro-american
Respecting a character’s ethnicity is more than just not-whitewash them

Princess and the Frog Live Action - Tiana Casting
Coco Jones or Ryan Destiny are my casting options for Tiana. (I would go in depth for why they are perfect but for now, they are definitely my top picks).

Look, i get you all like Zendaya and thats okay but she is not the only black woman in the world.Sure she deserves as much changes as she ,maybe i´m biassed, since i´m not black may be this is not in my place to say (so feel completely free to call me out if you don’t agree)
She should be played by someone as dark as she is
Both them should be played by someone as dark as they are
She should be played by an actual inuit actress (that being said,Zendaya would be an improvement over Nicola Peltz, but who wouldn’t?)
She may be the same skin tone but is latina-inspired and should be played by a latina (while i think a latina with indeginous features would be the most acurate,a black latina would be fine though)
This is not against Zendaya (she didn’t do anything wrong) or fancasts with her (ex: she could work as Catra) , is just an example to the people who are too lazy to look for more woc or genuily don’t see a problem with lightening canon dark skin or bronw people as interchangeable.

Frankie being nonbinary is a win, but the colorism, them ignoring Clawdeen being a lesbian, the fucking butchered character design, the COLORISM, them chosing a crusty white man who made a shitty racist movie to direct whats suppose to be a fun, diverse lively film is being fucked cuz these unoriginal hacks want money and they cant even be DAMNED to find the right cast.
Fuck off with this damn movie. They made one(1) lgbt character that doesnt excuse the colorism i dont fucking care.

Okay so let's talk about it again.
I'm seeing a lot of non black people saying stuff like "they didn't lightwash her, miia is still black", "she matches the doll", "its a lighting issue" blah blah blah. Ya'll are missing the point.
Yes, Miia is half black. Yes, she matches the dolls skin tone (which tbh, doesn't really matter cause the dolls skin was never consistent in the first place). Yes, she does look darker in different lighting.
But Clawdeen was still darkskinned (literally look at my profile pic). Miia Harris may be part black, but she is not dark skinned, so why is she playing a dark skinned character? It's not a hard concept to grasp.
Knowingly casting a light skinned woman to play a dark skinned role, happens all the time. Zazi Beets in The Harder They Fall, Amanda Stenberg in The Hate You Give, etc. This isn't new.
Yeah, maybe her singing voice influenced the decision a bit, but it's not like she's the only girl in the world who can sing well.
And if her skin tone isn't an issue, why did they dark her skin in the promos and in the movie? Because those promo pics have nothing to do with lighting.
The most obvious issue here, is that her skin tone changes so much depending on the lighting. Like, that is so obvious just with a Google search. The photos from the kids choice awards were taken the same night but in different lighting and her skin tone fluctuates so much.
And I've said it before and I'll say it again- if you look white in certain lighting, you shouldn't be playing a character meant to be dark skinned.
Many people have even said she would have been a better fit playing Howleen instead, because of her skin tone. Do ya'll... not see how that alone is an issue? Last time I checked Howleen was significantly lighter than Clawdeen- oh wait 😐.
-
The same people defending this casting are the same people who made fancasts with Zendaya as Clawdeen and didn't see an issue 💀.

Naur, but this. It’s very annoying seeing this, like darkskin representation is SEVERELY lacking in the media, so for them to go ahead and cast a light-skin actress for the role meant for a darker skinned one will forever annoy me and those same people will go around and complain that there’s hardly any darksin rep and say that “Miia isn’t a good choice for the role” but yet still do stuff like this, and I’m like, “Isn’t... Zendaya... just as white-passing??? Y’all aint doing nothing...”
Before they consider actresses like... Coco Jones, Skai Jackson, Lovie Simone, China Anne McClain, Marsai Martin, Ryan Destiny, etc. they go for the lighter skinned/mixed ones, Amandla Stenberg, Zendaya, Halle Bailey, Madison Pettis, Yara Shahadi etc.
The amount of MH fancast lists I've seen with Zendaya "casted" as Clawdeen is ridiculous.
Have ya'll seen Zendaya??? Have ya'll seen Clawdeen??
Do you not see the issue with that? 💀
-
Yeah I know it's a fancast and it isn't real, but it's definitely a real problem.
Casting lightskin women to play dark-skinned women is not okay and that's something I see in a lot of fancastings and fan art, and not just for Monster High.
