You make me want to start hiking.

I've always been into photography, nature and animal photography in particular, but never really have any opportunities for it (I say despite my parents owning a lot of forest). But this spring/summer I really hope my mental health allows me to get out more, I love nature and moving to the city was a major, *major* mistake for my mental health (grew up on the countryside).

Sorry this got emotional, I swear I originally just meant to say "You make me want to start hiking".

Every person is different, obviously, and people are adaptable and resilient, and experts on their own lives and so on. So when people say they're happy in urban environments, I have to believe them.

But I don't have the temperament for that. All of my coping skills - the reasonably healthy ones, anyway - are walk-related, and not knowing whether I'll be running into people or who I might run into puts me on edge. The thing about the mountain is that it could kill you if you're stupid or unlucky enough, but once you spend enough time in it, it starts to feel a little less tempting to let it.

Hike, if you can. You don't really need to start, in the same way you don't really have to stop. You just have to do. If you decide to keep doing it, get decent shoes.
