premiere, bella ramsey
masterlist pairing: bella ramsey x co-star!reader summary: you and bella go to the last of us season 2 premiere word count: 993 warnings: LOTS of fluff and flirting a/n: I KNOW, ITS LATE, but school is taking all my energy… anyway, i merged these two ideas (1 2), i hope you don’t mind! if you do, just lmk and i’ll be happy to rewrite it <3
you are on the red carpet at the season 2 premiere of your new show, The Last of Us. well, technically it isn't new, it's just new for you. you had spent the last year in Alberta, Canada with the most amazing people, making this video game come to life, and it had undoubtedly been the best year of your life.
anyway, right now you are in front of all the paparazzi who are calling your name and asking you questions when a certain one catches your eye and your jaw drops to the floor. there, on the literal floor, taking pictures of you, looking as stunning as ever, is the love of your life, and the star of the show, the beautiful Bella Ramsey.
you immediately make your way toward them as they get up and opens their arms for you. the only thing stopping you from quite literally jumping into their arms is that you know that both of your stylists will start yelling at you if you get even the slightest wrinkle on either of your outfits. you can see the cameras flashing and capturing the moment out of the corner of your eyes as you bury your face into their neck.
“what were you doing there?” you ask, slightly pushing Bella away so you could get a good look at them, “i should be the one taking photos of you!” you see a small blush make its way onto their face as you compliment them.
“i already got my picture taken,” they say, “and you just looked too good, i couldn’t resist.” now you're the one blushing and you have to fight the urge to bury yourself in their neck again. even though your relationship was public knowledge, you were still private people and wanted to keep the PDA to a minimum, even though you were definitely being tested right now. that being said, you barely have time to react, almost tripping over your own feet as Bella grabs your hand and leads you back to the carpet to take some pictures together.
you feel Bella put a hand on the small of your back as you melt further into them. even though these events are a relatively common part of your careers, it’s still extremely overwhelming to have everyone crowding around you and yelling for a minute of your attention. that’s a good thing about doing this with someone you know and trust. you always know when it’s starting to get to be too much for the other person, even if you can’t see it in yourself, so when you feel Bella start to unconsciously tense up, you turn to whisper in her ear.
“why do you look so fucking stunning today? anyone you’re trying to impress?” you ask with a big shit-eating grin on your face.
“yes, am i?” they ask, turning to look at you, mimicking the smile on your face.
“you're being a big flirt today, aren’t you?”
“only for you,” they say, without missing a beat, causing you to slightly throw your head back with a laugh.
you hear the paps stop calling your names out as the other actors start arriving, so you and Bella take that as your cue to move on.
immediately, you hear journalists start yelling both of your names, and you let Bella grab your hand and lead you to one that they were familiar and comfortable with.
“hello, hello!” she says once you reach her, “you both look absolutely gorgeous!”
“oh my gosh, you're so sweet, you look incredible as well!” you compliment her in response.
“how are you?” Bella asks her, “i always love talking with you, but i don’t think i’ve seen you since season one press ended.”
“ugh, you guys are giving me such an ego boost right now,” she says with a laugh, “but i’m doing good, how are you guys feeling right now? i bet there's a lot of emotions coming back this season.”
“yeah, definitely, i was so used to just filming with Pedro, so the new cast members definitely brought a new, shit, what's the word for it?” Bella explains, then turns to you for input.
“vibe?” you ask.
“yeah, they brought a new sort of vibe on set, and it was a really big change.”
“but a good change, right?” you ask, mostly teasing them.
“yes, of course, the best sort of change,” they say, rolling their eyes, and making you smile.
“get out, y’all are too cute for your own good!” the journalist laughs before turning her attention to you, “and how was the experience for you? it couldn’t have been easy jumping in after the first season.”
“yeah, it was really weird at first, but everyone was so open and kind, so they really made the whole transition so comfortable,” you say fondly, “i love everyone so much and i honestly don’t know what i would do without them.” as you say that, you see Bella’s face soften as they wrap their arm around you in a side hug.
“well, i hope that you guys have fun, and i’m sure that you will both be amazing,” the journalist says, closing up the interview.
“thank you so much,” Bella says.
“yeah, it was so nice to meet you,” you say with a smile.
“of course! it was a pleasure talking to you both,” she says, and you and Bella say goodbye to her and walk away.
once you find a small area away from prying eyes, Bella finally presses her lips to yours.
“you loveeee me,” you say teasingly once you both pull away from each other.
Bella hums in response and leans in to kiss you again. “yeah, and you love me back, so i think that it’s a pretty good deal, don’t you?”
and you do, so you pull them in closer, nodding your head, and kiss them again, both of you smiling into the kiss, perfectly content.

Gambit, Mental Health & Trauma
(Prefacing this with this is my interpretation and analysis of Gambit as a character, past and current events. I've been a fan of roguegambit for over a decade- I love them both so much!!!!!)
Gambit is a character who has canonically experienced a lot of trauma- being abandoned by his parents, growing up on the streets, sold into slavery as a child, his first marriage failing, being exiled from his hometown, etc. (I could honestly go on for days.)
Yet, this is largely ignored by comic writers. In situations where his consent is violated, for example, it's brushed off as a silly haha, and he has no reaction to it whatsoever.
I think the reason his trauma is so unexplored is firstly, because he's a man, and secondly, a lot of these events happened in solo's written by men. Examples of this are Gambit (1999), when he was sold into slavery and Etienne died, as well as the Foxx storyline in X-Men (2004)- both were written by men.
Even in Astonishing X-Men (2017), after the Foxx storyline, Mystique claims -in a throwaway line- to have slept with Gambit presenting as twin sisters. His reaction is, "Wait, what? How?" and that's it. No one else in the group reacts, and it's never acknowledged again.
Personally, if I found out that the mother of my (ex-)partner, who sexually harassed me over an extended period of time in the past, had gone on to violate my consent in such a manner, I would be upset. To say the least.
It's only in more recent years that conversations about men's mental health and consent have begun to happen, so it's not much of a surprise to me (sadly) that events were ignored or brushed over in the past.
The reason for my pointing all of this out is in response to his characterisation in Rogue and Gambit (2023).
Thus far, rather than dealing with his trauma, Gambit has ignored it.
RG23 is the point where everything has caught up with him, and he doesn't know how to cope. I can understand why it might seem like he's suddenly being written as a completely different person- for a very emotionally-driven person, somehow, his trauma has never negatively affected him in the past.
However, to understand RG23, we need to revisit Knights of X (2022)- where Gambit's depression came to the forefront. In issue 1, we see Rogue has left a note stating, "Shug- Working late. Don't wait up - Cher". We see he's unhappy about this, it's not the first time, and it's what leads him to join KOX and travel to the otherworld. He's lonely.
Tumblr media
This panel from issue 2 tells us everything we need to know about Gambit's headspace at that point in time. He misses Rogue, he doesn't believe she misses him, and he doesn't believe she loves him anymore.
Gambit has always struck me as the kind of person who desperately wants to be loved, but does not believe he is worth loving. At the beginning of his relationship with Rogue, he wanted her to love him, but he couldn't let himself emotionally invest in her.
This could be attributed to a whole number of things, but I think it all comes down to low self-worth. We know Gambit doesn't think of himself as a good person, which leads to him willfully making bad decisions at times (self-destructive behaviour). We also know that when he loves, he loves with everything he has and more.
After his exile from New Orleans, Gambit chose to abandon Bella Donna instead of bringing her with him. I think, from his perspective, he'd done irrevocable damage to the peace between their families, not to mention killing her brother. He couldn't allow her to sacrifice everything just to be with him, so he left her. Why? Because he didn't believe he deserved her love and dedication.
I'm certain this is a mindset Gambit took to all of his relationships going forward. Flirting, flings, and one night stands are an easy way to feel important for a minute without the risk of someone truly knowing him and deciding he isn't worth their time.
I think this is why it took him so long to admit to Rogue (and himself) that he was in love with her. I think this is also why we've seen him completely give up on communicating with her between KOX and RG23.
If Gambit starts a conversation with Rogue about their relationship, he's opening himself up to rejection. We know from RG23 issue 2's Rogue interview that she would never reject him (from her perspective their marriage is fine), but he doesn't know that. To hear the one person he loves most in the world outright say she doesn't love him anymore... It would break him completely. So, Gambit avoids the conversation.
In KOX issue 3, Gambit essentially killed himself to save his team.
Now, consider his mindset: he's in the Otherworld because he thinks Rogue doesn't love him anymore.
I'm not saying that directly led to him killing himself- as I said, he did so to save his team. However, I think it's safe to say if his mental health was in a better place, he wouldn't have made such a decision, let alone have gone to the Otherworld to begin with.
Tumblr media
This page from KOX issue 5 highlights his feelings for Rogue. She's his heart. His reason to live. Compare her statue to all of his:
Tumblr media
Rogue's statue is surrounded by light. There's no way anyone could miss seeing it versus his statues, representing multiple versions of himself- all of them are shrouded in darkness, no visible details.
Not only does Gambit not want people to see him, he wants them to look at Rogue. To Gambit, Rogue is the best part of him.
I'm not gonna pretend that's a healthy mindset. If anything, it further emphasises to me his low self-worth.
Tumblr media
I want to point out this page for several reasons.
Firstly, it could be said that Gambit didn't want to be saved, and that's why his Death persona manifested to kill his team. He wanted to stay dead.
Secondly, Death is the very very worst part of him, yet he says, "You ain't really changed if you ain't looked in the mirror and seen the worst parts a' yo'self. I am Death, mes amis." He's essentially telling them that this terrible, awful person is who he's always been deep inside. We know this isn't true, but this is what Gambit believes.
Thirdly, as mentioned earlier, when Gambit slips into that belief of "I'm a horrible person", he often makes bad decisions. In RG23 issue 2 (set after KOX), we see him tie an innocent civilian's hand to a gas stove, turn it on and then set it on fire. Gambit knows this is a horrible thing to do, but he's in such a horrible mental state that he doesn't think he's above this behaviour. I will come back to this point.
Tumblr media
Gambit asks how anyone new is coming to the Otherworld because the gate between Krakoa and the Otherworld was closed, and Betsy could only take ten of them. To partake on such a dangerous mission, Gambit chose to risk leaving everything behind without knowing if he'd even make it back alive.
In a sense, he abandoned Rogue in a similar way to abandoning Bella Donna. He went somewhere neither of them could reach him. Or supposedly couldn't.
Rogue was first to greet him after his revival. Gambit couldn't believe this because a) he thought he was dead, and b) why would Rogue, who is too busy for him, be the first to see him after his resurrection?
It's easy to think that this moment resolved Gambit's worries that Rogue didn't love him, and that, going forward, their problems were fixed, but as RG23 shows, it didn't. Rogue showing up for him once isn't enough to fix their current issues because the problem lies deeper than Rogue's absence.
At a superficial level, it's easy to blame her for Gambit's mental state, but I believe this depression he's fallen into has been a long time coming. Decades of unprocessed trauma, insecurity and self-destructive behaviour- literally dying and coming back to life, have culminated in the Gambit we see in RG23. To be honest, you have to be in a very very dark place to kill yourself, self-sacrifice or otherwise.
Issue 1 of All New X-Factor (2014) shows Gambit is no stranger to drinking and barfights. The difference is his mindset. We know he can win a fight against multiple people- we've seen that happen many times. So why, in RG23 issue 1, was he suddenly unable to block a punch, let alone hold himself upright?
Because he didn't want to win.
When Rogue arrives to rescue him, we learn multiple things. It's not the first time he's disappeared somewhere without telling her; it's not the first time she's found him so drunk he's incapacitated; it's not the first time she's had to save him from a fight he's not winning.
What this tells me is that Gambit is purposefully putting himself in dangerous situations as a form of self-harm. He doesn't tell Rogue where he's going because he doesn't want her to save him. He drinks to the point he can barely stand to make sure there's no way he can win a fight, and then he starts a fight to get the shit kicked out of him.
It almost seems like, in some sense, he still wants to die, but he can't kill himself. Not while he remains in limbo with Rogue.
It works both ways- if he never asks Rogue how she feels, he never finds out that he's right and that she doesn't love him. He also never finds out he's wrong and that she does love him.
It's important to add here, that Rogue is in a very difficult position.
Tumblr media
RG23 issue 1: we can see Gambit actively shutting Rogue out. He calls it a "misunderstanding" and his "business". Despite the fact that they're married, Gambit is basically telling Rogue to stay out of it.
Tumblr media
Again, he's shutting her out, making light of such a dangerous situation and then outright ignoring her. In fact, Gambit's completely disregarding her feelings. We can see Rogue is exhausted. It's hard to care about someone who doesn't care about themselves.
And Rogue does care. A lot. Every time Gambit goes missing she goes out to find him, saves him and then brings him home to take care of him.
But she can't help him if he won't let her.
When someone you love hurts themselves, it hurts you too, and Gambit is indirectly hurting Rogue, but he refuses to see that because he's decided that she doesn't care. In his spiral of self-destruction, he's completely shut down communication between them.
Asking for help is never easy to do, and we know he thinks she's too busy for him. He doesn't want to burden her with his issues.
Furthermore, he doesn't want to face his issues and resolve them.
Tumblr media
In issue 2 of RG23, after losing their powers, Rogue is freed from the burden of having to consciously control them at all times, and we see them share a moment of physical intimacy.
Tumblr media
I find his use of "tête-à-tête" here (French for "a private conversation") ironic because we all know they weren't talking.
Returning to what I said earlier about Gambit and flings- physical intimacy is an easy way to briefly fill the void of what he's missing in emotional intimacy.
I don't believe he suddenly views his relationship with Rogue as something akin to a fling. I think the opposite.
Gambit invests in their relationship physically but not emotionally because to him, that's the safest way he can connect with Rogue right now. Touch is his love language, and when he can't find the words to speak, physical intimacy is the best he can do.
Rogue and Gambit (2018) showed us that, back then, Rogue was the one struggling to communicate her feelings, and Gambit was always very open with her about where he stood, so why the role reversal?
We can see Rogue trying to communicate, but Gambit shuts her down, pushing her away.
By doing this and holding onto the idea that Rogue doesn't love or care about him anymore, Gambit is sub-consciously trying to ruin their relationship.
Given how much he loves Rogue and wants to be with her, this tells me he's still in a very dark headspace.
Going back to the statues being parts of himself he doesn't want anyone to see, as well as becoming Death once more, and finally confessing his core belief- that he can't change, he will always be a terrible person: Gambit's trapped himself in his own insecurity.
If he opens up to Rogue, he risks her seeing him for who he truly believes he is. What comes with that? Rejection.
Tumblr media
Here, we see Gambit drinking once again. Rogue also mentions how, on one occasion, he argued with a sommelier over wine. In both issue 1 and 2 Gambit's use of alcohol has been highlighted in a negative light. It's an unhealthy coping mechanism.
Also, it's easy to look at this scene and think Rogue is the one who can't let loose and lighten up, but I think what's actually happening is Gambit is ignoring her feelings, as he did in issue 1. She has a drink and two glasses next to her on the table, so it's not as if they haven't already spent a considerable amount of time having fun there.
When Rogue says they should leave, Gambit's more interested in continuing his escapism- until Black Panther arrives, and he starts another drunken fight he can't win. A pattern has been established.
Tumblr media
"He'll save her. He's a hero." is a very telling line that reveals why Gambit did what he did- because he's not a hero, and he knew the woman would be saved.
To reiterate, Gambit believes he is a terrible person who is not above doing terrible things. He does not change: he will always be who he was as Death. The worst of the worst.
By risking an innocent woman's life to save himself (and Rogue), he only furthers this belief.
Tumblr media
We see here that Gambit looked back to check if Black Panther did indeed save the woman he endangered. Without looking at Rogue and speaking quietly (evidenced by the smaller writing and bubble), he says to himself, "He saved her." Because Gambit isn't the terrible person he thinks himself to be- he couldn't leave without knowing the woman was safe.
This is how we, the reader, know that Gambit hasn't suddenly changed and become a terrible person. He's struggling with his mental health and sense of identity after a lifetime of trauma.
Honestly, there are so many more traumatic events I could talk about.
There's a long list of people Gambit's lost- as mentioned before, in his 1999 solo, it was shown he was partly responsible for the death of his cousin, Etienne.
In X-Men (1991), we found out that, after a failed heist, Gambit was forced by Sabretooth to pick between saving his brother and saving Genevieve. He chose his brother, and she was killed.
In his 2012 solo, Gambit's love interest, Joelle, killed herself in front of him. In his 2022 solo, he failed to save his love interest, Marissa, and as a result, she became visibly disfigured.
It goes without saying events like the Morlock Massacre would've had a huge impact on his mental health and sense of self-worth too.
If you've read all of the above, you might be wondering why only now are we getting to see the repercussions of all this? Why does all this trauma suddenly matter?
Rogue and Gambit (2018) opened the doorway for exploring their issues as a couple. Mr and Mrs X (2018) gave Rogue an opportunity to revisit her trauma (and finally conquer her powers in the process). Now, I think it's Gambit's turn. At this point, he's surpassed rock bottom, and the only way up is finally confronting these issues.
Will everything I've mentioned here be explored in Rogue and Gambit (2023)? I doubt it. It's very plot-driven and only five issues long.
However, I do think the first step for him is resolving his communication issues with Rogue, which I'm certain will happen in RG23. Afterwards, it wouldn't surprise me if we see him continue to fight his own demons in future issues until he finds his closure.
IN CONCLUSION: I understand the frustration with Gambit's characterisation and why it may seem like he's suddenly become an entirely different person. I don't expect everyone to agree with everything I've said!!
This is my personal interpretation of everything- I'm not trying to blame the current situation entirely on Gambit and act like Rogue can't make a bit more effort.
Their issues are a lot more complicated than simply Rogue not spending enough time with him.
I look forward to seeing this develop further in RG23 :D
tl;dr in my opinion his characterisation so far in Rogue and Gambit (2023) makes sense following the ideas established in Knights of X (2022): Gambit is depressed, has a very low self-esteem, and doesn’t believe Rogue loves him anymore

Which of the Cullen’s could solo raise Renesmeé if the rest of the family disappeared or perished?
The family and Renesmee.
I mean, solo implies something very bad happened, which could influence this but we'll go along and see what we come up with.
Alice
No.
Renesmee blocks her visions and wasn't the Cullen she was most attached to anyway. Alice, I imagine, also doesn't feel prepared to handle this kind of emotional trauma from a child while dealing with her own.
Alice bails.
She drops Renesmee off with the Denali and says funny emails every few weeks to lift Renesmee's spirits.
Bella
No.
Almost doesn't matter what happened to Jacob and Edward but the fact is that they're out of the picture and Bella will likely not be prepared for that. Add in that Bella both doesn't understand how to be a mother or what motherhood entails, and she finds herself with responsibilities she never wanted and someone looking to her for support when she wants support desperately herself.
She drops Renesmee off at the Denali and doesn't send any emails.
Carlisle
Yes.
He's a fairly stable person and would feel immense responsibility towards Renesmee. He's also able to hold a stable position in human society that would let Renesmee have some sense of community once she stops growing.
He's likely grieved by the loss of his family but he;ll devote himself to ensuring her future.
Edward
No.
Edward has little interest in being a father from what we see in canon (only attending to his daughter when it's convenient for him) and he would be a mess with the loss of his family and Bella. He'll either resent Renesmee and blame her for whatever happened to them or else ignore her completely.
He doesn't pawn her off onto the Denali, wanting to take care of him herself, and Renesmee grows up in a toxic isolated environment knowing her father despises her.
Emmett
Maybe.
It's not something he really wanted to do but he'd be okay and probably realize that pawning her off onto the Denali isn't the greatest idea in the world. They're also all each other has.
They go live in the mountains and wrestle bears.
Esme
Yes.
Esme would devote everything to Renesmee and ensuring her future and happiness. She'd get a job teleworking or something so that Renesmee can be enrolled safely in school and would do everything in her power to see Renesmee have, if not a normal childhood, then a great one filled with great memories.
Jasper
No.
Jasper is not ready for this kind of emotional responsibility, much less in the wake of losing Alice and the Cullens (being his means of sticking to the diet). Jasper will fall off the diet without help and he can't have Renesmee around for that.
They both join the Denali coven and Jasper hates himself for imposing and tries to be the uh normal one in the family and steer Renesmee clear of the succubus route.
Rosalie
Yes.
Rosalie is there for this. She's grieving, distraught, and has to build herself up from the foundations but Renesmee becomes her purpose in life and what she can apply herself towards. She gets a job in the human world, makes sure Renesmee goes to school, and tries to provide for her as best she can.

Author's notes: Here I am, back with the writing bug. It's been a long time since I've wanted to write something. As TLOU has dominated my whole life with the games that I've loved for years and the HBO series, it's no surprise that I have a whole fantasy in my head that I needed to write fanfiction about.
Hope you guys enjoy reading this! Please do comment and reblog, anything that helps to get this around.
Troy singing Future Days always gets me in the feels. If Pedro ends up singing...I am DONE (unless he sings La Bamba LMAO). Or if Bella sings Take On Me...TEARS. I love listening to the Part II covers.
not to be thirsty on here, but praise naughty dog for making joel miller so...mmmm yeah. i wanna marry this man. even pedro says he's hot

Everything I've found here, I've not found by myself.
Winter was coming which meant heavy snow and slower starts to days with the later sunrise and the numbing morning air. Jackson had started preparations for it - checking that its residents had everything to keep warm in their homes, protecting the allotments and making any repairs to maintain buildings.
Sweeping through the long patrol routes was the biggest task. Maria had to be sure that the people assigned to them could handle potential Infected and any people they may meet on the way. Past encounters have mostly gone smoothly, with trading links made between communities, like Jackson, and also helping any travellers who just needed a good night of sleep and food in their system, setting off the next morning. This was something that the residents of Jackson were incredibly grateful for - to be able to say that they were safe and had warm beds to greet every night, as well as being able to provide aid and supplies to people who come through was a privilege.
The few not-so-pleasant meetings with bandits ended with minor injuries and increased security at the power plant as a precaution.
Joel and Ellie settled in as well as they could after the hell of a journey they completed. You lived a road away from their new home, so you had seen them integrate into the community and get used to living instead of surviving.
Maria was the one responsible for your first interaction with Joel, who was getting to know the different patrol routes on the map. "She's one of our best. A great shot, smart, reliable. Expect to be on patrol with her if Tommy isn't around. She's a busy woman in this town."
"Wow." You leaned forward onto the desk of her office with your hands. "A great shot, smart and reliable? You flatter me, Maria," you joked with a smirk on your face.
That was the first time you had seen Joel Miller smile. Even if it may have been a small one.
In the few months since the older Miller brother and the 14 year-old had arrived, you've had the opportunity to introduce (and re-introduce to the man) the different parts of the town to them.
"Woah, you have art classes? FEDRA school was never like this." Ellie wandered around the empty classroom that was decorated with paintings and drawings made by the young Jackson residents. Her fingers trailed along the row of paintbrushes and stained palettes.
"If you want, we can enrol you in some of the classes? I know you said that you wanted to take up patrols, but you're still young. We've even got Spanish. Try bilingualism to stimulate that brain of yours," you suggested.
You would never forget the way she looked up to you with widened eyes and an excited smile. "Really?" You nodded. "Didn't you say you teach a class, too? Maybe I could join yours as well?"
You sat on a desk with a warmed heart for the kid who wanted to go to school and learn. "I teach some psychology. Not that it means anything now, but there was blood, sweat and tears working for my PhD and training, so I might as well put it to good use to fill in the time and help anyone who wants it."
"What's a PhD?" Ellie asked in confusion.
You chuckled to yourself and started to explain. "It's basically a way to get people to call you Doctor."
Then, Ellie took her chance.
"Why is a doctor always calm?" She asked with her legs swinging back and forth under the table she was sitting on.
You shrugged.
A smirk found its way to her lips. "Because they have a lot of patients."
Joel was standing a few feet away from the door, taking in the sounds of laughter before calling out for the jokester.
-
Your house was one of the smaller ones on your road; just enough for one person. I'm just lucky to even have a home. Only a short walk away from Joel and Ellie's, you hugged a small pile of books to your chest and with a bag hung from your shoulder, dressed in a well-worn pair of jeans and a thick jumper.
The house came into view at the end of the street. It was not unusual to find yourself walking up the steps to their front door to bring Ellie some things that you thought she might like.
Taking a deep breath, you knocked. Footsteps thumped through the door, the locks were undone and the man of the house greeted you. "Hey." He widened the opening as an invite into the home. "Lookin' for Ellie, Santa Claus?" He eyed the the books and the bag you were holding.
"I am, yes." You stepped inside and pushed the door closed with your shoulder. "As you can see, she's made it onto the nice list and is owed a lot of presents." He started to lead you through the hallway and the kitchen where the backdoor led to the garden where Ellie lived in her converted garage.
"Know anything 'bout me being on that list?" He sent a teasing grin over his shoulder and stepped out into the grassy area.
(That was a loaded question.)
"Oh, Joel Miller, wouldn't you like to know? Too impatient to wait for December, are we?" An eyebrow raised at him.
"No, I'm patient." Just as he was about to call Ellie's name, he faced you. "When I need to be."
-
"Woah!" Ellie inspected the orange glowing lamp in her hands. "It looks kind of like a rocket."
"Yeah, that's why I brought it over. Thought you'd like it," you said while she made rocket launching sounds and waved it around. "And to go with your journey to the stars," you placed the books on her coffee table, "these are photos from the NASA Archive."
Her eyes widened and she instantly started to flick through the pages without another word except 'look' when she tilted the pages towards you, completely mesmerised by what had been discovered.
Joel, who was sitting on the couch beside you, hadn't said anything since you showed her the lava lamp. Looking over your shoulder, you glanced at him. Shoulders and eyebrows relaxed, no tension shown.
He looked...content, as if he just had a day off work and stayed at home.
Then, his eyes met yours. A small smile of gratitude was sent to you before you both went back to watching Ellie get excited at all her new gifts.
This is what I saved her for.

When you and Joel finally left Ellie's garage, the sun was setting which left a warm filter on everything within its reach. She was left marvelling over her newly acquired 'space hub' as she called it - a new poster of Neil Armstrong on her wall, a collection of books that were not in the FEDRA school library and an 'alien spaceship' as a lamp.
"Thank you for doing this for her." His hands were stuffed in his pockets while the two of you stood by the gate that you would eventually walk out of to go home. "You didn't have to. Here, she gets to be a kid an’-"
"I know, and I wanted to." Letting out an exhale, you decided to just lay everything out. "Look, Ellie's so young and has been through so much shit. Definitely more than what we experienced her age. Death and survivor's guilt come by so easily now, and I do what I can to help people cope with it whenever they ask." Joel dipped his head down and leaned his elbow on the wooden fence. "But the children here don't have to face those things because we keep them safe and we have a responsibility to teach them how to be. I like her happy and I also like seeing you happy for her, Joel."
The next thing he knew, he felt your hand's light squeeze on his forearm. "It's a good look on you." Just before you pulled back, he patted and laid his hand on yours (maybe for a second longer than he intended), squeezing back.
"Thank you."
"You say that a lot. Might have to start collecting money from you." He laughed and shook his head.
"Tell me how much and I'll pay it. 'M feeling generous today," he went on. A few seconds of silence fell. "I don't want to keep you out for too long. I'm sure you want to get home soon." He stood up, preparing to unlock the gate for you.
"Yeah." Bringing down the bag from your shoulder, you reached to the bottom and extended the package to him. "I actually did get you something, though." He took it, unwrapping the paper. Guitar strings. "My attic had a load of junk when I moved in and there was some music stuff there, too. I remember Tommy telling me stories of him and his big brother going to see live music-"
"And we'd mess around on the guitars at the end of the shows," he finished. "I haven't touched one since then." His eyes stayed locked on the bag of strings between his fingers.
"I'm pretty sure they have a few in the old music shop." Taking small steps to the gate, Joel followed. "I put all the treasure from my attic in the back room. Go raid it sometime."
"I will," he replied. You both stopped and you turned to him, with a soft grin. "Again, thank you."
You sighed at that. "You're welcome." A few steps out, you faced him. "Again."
Quick shots of his breath lightly hit your face and you looked up at him. "Sun’s setting now, Joel, so I think that’s my cue to get home.”
He nodded. “See you tomorrow, then.”
“See you tomorrow, Joel.”
Unknown to you and the man, who stayed by the gate until you turned the corner, there was a curious set of eyes peeking through the curtains of their little converted garage.

alicent comes across like a massive hypocrite in how she handles dyanna. like i do understand she herself has been a victim but that just makes it worse. like the second she's greeted with another victim she just gaslights her and literally does not hold aegon accountable?
sa tw
okay i COMPLETELY understand why you feel this way. as a survivor of sa myself, that scene was really uncomfortable to watch. i'm sure i'm not the only person who noticed the parallels to rich white boys having their parents pay off their victims and continuing about their lives irl. that being said, the more i tried to think about how i wished alicent had handled things, the more i realized i couldn't think of another response that would have been better. i think this is unfortunately one of those cases where there IS no right thing to do, and you simply have to choose the lesser of two evils no matter how sick it makes you feel. there are two hugely important pieces of context to alicent's actions here:
alicent is not the person with the ultimate authority here. as episode 9 makes clear, otto and the council have more power than she does.
at this point in time, alicent thinks that the lives of ALL of her children- not just aegon- rely on her successfully using aegon to usurp rhaenyra. see my meta here for the justification of this.
so with this in mind, let's imagine what would happen if alicent wanted to hold aegon accountable.
let's say she takes dyanna's side publicly, and accuses aegon of forcing himself upon her. what happens?
remember, at this point in time, viserys is on his deathbed and is completely unable to rule. and as mentioned above, alicent isn't the one truly in power in his stead- otto is. he's the one who has the council in his pocket and who works with them behind alicent's back. so now otto's the one handling the investigation and the punishments. and do you know what otto does? he accuses dyanna of lying, possibly of being paid off by rhaenyra to slander aegon's name. here are the possible outcomes otto would demand after that point:
dyanna is executed for crimes against the royal family
dyanna is tortured as part of the investigation to get the "truth" of what happened. she is either deliberately killed or forced into a false confession and then killed
dyanna is threatened and forced to withdraw the accusations, resign, and move far away. otto would either threaten her life or her family to do this.
alicent might TRY to stop this from happening, but as episode 9 makes clear, at the end of the day she is still a woman, and otto will always have more power than her even if by title alone he should not.
but bella, you might say, why doesn't alicent have larys spirit aegon away somewhere or kill him? here's where we get into the second piece of context. aegon is THE only real alternative to rhaenyra that alicent has. she's spent over a decade, in conjunction with otto, laying the foundation for aegon in particular to become king one day, long before there's any canon evidence of him being a rapist. there are resources that have been irrevocably invested in aegon in particular: helaena, the twins, and maelor. aegon is the only one on team green with a targaryen wife and two male heirs.
because of this, aemond or daeron simply cannot hold up to the credibility presented by rhaenyra, who has a targaryen husband and many male heirs. all of team green's eggs are in one basket, aegon's, by necessity since there was only one of helaena. even if alicent remarried aemond to helaena, it would take years for them to produce heirs of their own, and that's time alicent simply does not have because at this point in time, viserys is clearly on his deathbed.
remember, alicent was an end-of-life caretaker for jaehaerys. she knows how to recognize the signs. she knows they're running out of time. if she tries to switch tracks to aemond or daeron right now, right when viserys is about to die and they need their claim to be at its strongest, it will doom team green's attempt to usurp rhaenyra, and therefore (in alicent's mind) sentence all of her children to death.
should a survivor of sexual assault sentence a fellow survivor to inevitable torture, intimidation, and/or execution? no. should a mother sentence her two youngest sons and her grandsons to death for a crime they had no part in? also no.
i don't have a good or satisfying answer here for what alicent should have done. i think that's kind of the point: she didn't either. she did what she could for dyanna, without condemning dyanna or her children to death. alicent is the ONLY explicit sa victim in hotd; and she does for dyanna what no one did for her. she hugs her, she tells her she believes her, she ensures dyanna won't have to carry and birth the rape babies alicent was forced to, she gives her a way to escape her abusive situation the way alicent was never able to. within the power that she does have, she chooses to be kind, and she chooses to spare dyanna the fate she herself suffered.
it's an awful situation, and i think it goes to illustrate just how trapped and desperate alicent is. she doesn't like aegon. she doesn't want him to be king. she can barely stand to look at him, knowing what he's done. and yet she has to push down her morals and put him on the throne anyways because her other children's lives depend on it.
unfortunately, there's a recurring theme in this fandom where people would rather hate a woman for her actions at face value, without comprehending that the real villain here is the system that has created these awful, inescapable situations. the conversation between alicent and rhaenys in episode 9, which i've talked about here, is another example of the point just flying over most people's heads. but i hold for all hotd women (yes, including rhaenyra, for all the people who assume defending alicent means i must hate rhaenyra because clearly you can't like two women at once) that the true villain behind all of their morally grey actions is pretty much always the patriarchy.

Can you please tell me what this new character you really like is about ? He's your next fictional crush...
Also...Do you have any Lestrange daughter headcanons where she befriends the trio. I think this idea is very Mary Sue, but...I think if one adjusts that let's say her conception is : "Rodolphus Lestrange willingly drank love potion per orders of Voldemort" What are your ideas to make it work ?
Ofc!
Okay, first, I apologize for the "no" response? I was just in the middle of an argument and it kinda happened. Tbh I didn't think it's weird/uncomfortable at all and you can ask me abt all subjects basically.
I don't think it's Mary Sue-ish at all to make the Lestranges have a kid. A lot of characters in hp who shouldn't/wouldn't have children do have them since JKR is a mother and it's a big part of her life and her books, so it wouldn't be a stretch to see Bellatrix give birth as well. I personally think they could have a child without love potions as loveless marriages often do, maybe Bella was infertile and didn't pursue treatment or just got an abortion in canon. If she had a daughter she'd be likely to just give her over to some nanny and barely care for her. I saw your post about Rudolph... why is it that at any time I think a man is even a little hot he gets accused of the most heinous shit ever. He might fancy the dead tho, I mean the purebloods are perverse enough for that and they prob think it's more fine than doing it with a muggle. It made me laugh.
The girl meeting the trio would be interesting, because Harry and Hermione wouldn't even know much about her parents until they're 15 and wouldn't judge her by her roots anyway, but my GOD Ron would fucking spit on her. I think it would be cool if she was in ravenclaw since it would highlight how much she isolates herself. She might go to some adoption system or maybe to the Tonks family?... so she'd be pretty normal. I think dumbledore would persuade someone into adopting her lol. She'd have an interesting relationship with Neville I think. About her personality, she'd be very hotheaded but analytical (a choleric and thinker temperament?), also very strong willed which can make her stubborn. She could be curious and feel a pull towards dark shit and have a whole luke skywalker arc of being afraid of being like her family. Which can be a realistic concern since mental illnesses are often genetic, so she would struggle with that. She would try to be a good person but wouldn't be a great friend and would self isolate a lot, very introverted. A bit machiavellian lmao. Definitely wouldn't share any secrets about herself. Hard time relaying on someone if anyone but the Tonks were the ones to raise her, so some trust issues. But she tries her best.
About that guy... he is James March from American horror story hotel and he's basically a ghost. He was a serial killer in the 20s, built a whole hotel to kill people in and torture them in their last moments n then easily dispose of all evidence. Isn't he just so dreamy? Also a design and engineering genius, a hunter, a gentleman (it's a facade he's a psychopath), has a sexy accent and drinks absinthe. His every MOVEMENT is hot and I'd literally get on my knees for him. Though he might have necro tendencies... that's why I giggled at the Rodolphus post. But James definitely prefers normal sex lmao he had a sex scene with Lady Gaga. He had a traumatic childhood (said his father was awful, has scars on his back...). It's a speculation, but since most of the more evil serial killers were victims of sexual abuse... yikes. But he's fictional so I can like him despite all of that. Or maybe for it? I often fall for fictional killers and/or torturers lol. He's also just charming, like so so charming it's unreal... I also really admire the actor's (Evan Peters) dedication to the character as he did most of the work in characterization.

There are definitely solo Z stans that want her to "show drive" by working more. And it doesn't really have to do with her dating Tom. She could be dating anyone and they would still say the same because they want her to "catch up with her peers" and have more critically praised films in her resumé because they want to win arguments with other stans. I have been following Z since her Disney days and there were fans that would say that Z was not ambitious enough and seemed to have settled for Disney Channel while Bella Thorne was doing projects outside of Disney. They didn't consider that Z was being highly selective and not just accepting any random job that would be offered to her

Honestly? They sound like the types of stans that this person was talking about in this Tweet below:
I'll be honest, I don't usually like to compare woc to fellow White women in the industry, because I know that the industry isn't always as fair to Black women and other woc. They don't always get the exact same opportunities as their fellow White women counterparts.
With that said, like the Tweeter mentioned in their tweets above, these "Stan Wars" seem to be due to deeper issues going on with the person than anything about the actor themselves.
Zendaya chose the RIGHT time for her to do a lead film on her own imo. 😊
Everyone's career doesn't have to look the exact same. Idk where fans got this idea that one person's career has to look the exact same as someone else's.

What are your thoughts on Garret’s speech in breaking dawn
To those who don't remember, Garrett gives a rousing speech to those gathered where he explains that the Volturi are the bloody English tyrants who hate freedom and the Cullens are hobbits.
Aro, Caius, and Marcus have learned that Renesmee is no immortal child, but they have no guarantee she won't be dangerous in some way later on. No one does.
Garrett steps up to witness for the Cullens, which in itself is an interesting decision this late in the trial. He hasn't observed anything about Renesmee that Aro hasn't, and he can no more guarantee that she won't be dangerous than anybody else in the clearing can.
This of course is no problem for Garrett, because to him the point isn't whether Renesmee is dangerous or not, but that he has a personal vendetta. His speech isn't addressed to the Volturi, but to everyone else, as he explains how the Volturi hate freedom and people who are different, and they want to kill the Cullens because of the diet. The speech quickly descends into American Revolution rhetoric and Garrett threatening the Volturi.
I think this is one of those posts where if I don't pull out the actual text you people will think I'm exaggerating or misrepresent Garrett, and also because I had genuinely forgotten how insane it was .
Feast your eyes on Garrett's slightly abbreviated speech (slightly abbreviated because the guy just kept going):
These ancient ones did not come here for justice as they told you. We suspected as much, and now it has been proved. They came, misled, but with a valid excuse for their action. Witness now as they seek flimsy excuses to continue their true mission. Witness them struggle to find a justification for their true purpose—to destroy this family here.
The Volturi come to erase what they perceive as the competition. Perhaps, like me, you look at this clan’s golden eyes and marvel. They are difficult to understand, it’s true. But the ancient ones look and see something besides their strange choice. They see power. (Breaking Dawn, page 454)
This is just the beginning, but it's not a speech you give if you want to deescalate the situation. This is a call to arms.
Garrett goes on to explain how the Cullens may be weird freaks, but it's okay because their quaint little way of life is actually quite peaceful and noble. And if it sounds like Garrett is describing hobbits then that's because judging by this speech, that's how he views them.
I... did not remember this was the context for his "They love each other more than we can understand" blurb. God, turns out Garrett was just channeling Arthur Weasley. "I've made a little study of them!"
I have witnessed the bonds within this family—I say family and not coven. These strange golden-eyed ones deny their very natures. But in return have they found something worth even more, perhaps, than mere gratification of desire? I’ve made a little study of them in my time here, and it seems to me that intrinsic to this intense family binding—that which makes them possible at all—is the peaceful character of this life of sacrifice. There is no aggression here like we all saw in the large southern clans that grew and diminished so quickly in their wild feuds. There is no thought for domination. And Aro knows this better than I do. (454)
Aro is me in this interaction:
I watched Aro’s face as Garrett’s words condemned him, waiting tensely for some response. But Aro’s face was only politely amused, as if waiting for a tantrum-throwing child to realize that no one was paying attention to his histrionics. (454)
Yes, Bella, that's exactly what he's doing. There are no grand points being made here, there's just Garrett telling everybody that he thinks Carlisle is a hobbit while Carlisle is on trial for having created an immortal child. Garrett was called in to witness saying this wasn't the case, but Garrett doesn't want to do that. Garrett want to incite an insurrection instead.
I can't stress that part enough, Garrett makes a speech that essentially boils down to "We can't tolerate the Volturi ruling over us". Renesmee aside, Garrett just gave the Volturi a very good reason to destroy the Cullens.
He then makes it worse.
Carlisle assured us all, when he told us what was coming, that he did not call us here to fight. These witnesses”—Garrett pointed to Siobhan and Liam—“agreed to give evidence, to slow the Volturi advance with their presence so that Carlisle would get the chance to present his case.
But some of us wondered”—his eyes flashed to Eleazar’s face—“if Carlisle having truth on his side would be enough to stop the so-called justice. Are the Volturi here to protect the safety of our secrecy, or to protect their own power? Did they come to destroy an illegal creation, or a way of life? Could they be satisfied when the danger turned out to be no more than a misunderstanding? Or would they push the issue without the excuse of justice? (454)
"You thought some of us came here to fight, not witness. And you were right!"
I want to know what Carlisle was thinking this entire time.
And I can't stress enough, Garrett is saying the above without any proof. Aro says, "We don't know what hybrids are and have no guarantee Renesmee couldn't become a danger", Garrett says this proves his corruption and ascribes the motive as being the Cullens' diet.
Garrett then wraps up his speech, and... uh:
So now there are more questions, questions that you must answer. Who rules you, nomads? Do you answer to someone’s will besides your own? Are you free to choose your path, or will the Volturi decide how you will live?
I came to witness. I stay to fight. The Volturi care nothing for the death of the child. They seek the death of our free will. (454)
I... uh.
Carlisle, I'm sure is breathing into a paper bag at this point.
And I'm left with the impression that Garrett has spent the past three centuries feeling very revolutionary but not having anyone to revolution against, so now that he's finally got the Volturi he's gonna revolution them so hard.
The Volturi never told anyone how to live. Vampires can do whatever they want, just don't expose the secret. The Volturi never had a problem with the animal diet, their leader has been friends with Carlisle for centuries and was pleased to hear Carlisle had found a coven of like-minded. There are no taxes, no institutions, if you want to live your life never interacting with the Volturi then you can. Garrett is fabricating an oppressor so he'll have someone to fight, which the Cullens never even asked him to do.
Garrett ends his speech on an explicit threat to the Volturi and trying to intimidate their witnesses into joining him, deliberately trying to turn this into a fight even though the Cullens only asked him to stand as a witness and made it clear they wanted a peaceful resolution.
“You might consider joining us. If you think the Volturi will let you live to tell this tale, you are mistaken. We may all be destroyed”—he shrugged—“but then again, maybe not. Perhaps we are on more equal footing than they know. Perhaps the Volturi have finally met their match. I promise you this, though—if we fall, so do you.” (455)
My thoughts on Garrett's speech is that the Cullens never should have invited him.
(Since the guy somehow kept going, feast your eyes on him antagonizing Aro:
He ended his heated speech by stepping back to Kate’s side and then sliding forward in a half-crouch, prepared for the onslaught. Aro smiled. “A very pretty speech, my revolutionary friend.” Garrett remained poised for attack. “Revolutionary?” he growled. “Who am I revolting against, might I ask? Are you my king? Do you wish me to call you master, too, like your sycophantic guard?” “Peace, Garrett,” Aro said tolerantly. “I meant only to refer to your time of birth. Still a patriot, I see.” Garrett glared back furiously. (455)
In which Garrett, having just made a call to revolution, tries to catch Aro on having called him revolutionary. Praise be to Aro for not falling for the bait.
Just........
Rock on, Garrett.)

Could you share some of your ideas on improving the Twilight series?
Tumblr media
There are a few ways that we can fix Twilight, but for now let's just focus on keeping its original premise: Bella moves to Forks, meets Edward, and is swept up into a word of supernatural happenings. I'm going to go through my issues one by one and then get to some overall points, this got stupidly long for no good reason I am so sorry.
I will note that I had to google some information about what happens in the first and fourth books because I did not watch those movies and I think I might have read the first book? But don't remember anything that happened in it.
Bella's Personality
Or lack of one is getting changed immediately. Stories are driven by the actions and desires of their characters and Bella is our MC. We need her to have reasons for making the choices she does beyond "she has to do this for the plot to progress."
Bella moves to Forks because she notices that her mother seems unhappy staying at home with her and not on the road with her new husband. From this we can assign Bella as being self-sacrificing, maybe to the point of self-sabotaging. She also is very self-reliant; she doesn't think she needs help from other people, especially not those who have a degree of authority over her because she assumes their help comes from them assuming she cannot take care of herself (and maaaaybe think that she's a burden) and not from a place of love.
When Jacob expresses a dislike of Sam, Bella supports him and validates his feelings. She is extremely upset and confused when he has suddenly changed his tune later and goes to confront Sam about it. In the movie this comes off as manipulative, as it seems like Bella is only really upset that Jacob isn't 100% focused on her anymore. I hate this! It makes the story much better if Bella goes to confront Sam because she is protective of her loved ones. Edward says he is afraid of not being able to protect her several times and she always responds with "then I'll protect you!" She should mean that! Let her be the over protective friend who will throw hands!!!
The one thing I do remember about the first book is an off hand remark about how "special and not like other girls" Bella was because she had already read Jane Austen for fun and that made her only able to relate to old people (something I had just gotten done doing which was probably why I stopped reading the book because middle school Yuri felt very insecure) and she also seems to like Shakespeare. But the books never seem to do anything with that, and it was pretty much the law in the early 2000s that your YA heroine needed to be into classic lit so it is a sort of basic trait. But it is still a trait, so Bella likes classic lit.
One of the things people unironically like about Twilight is how Stephanie Myer portrayed depression. Bella seems to be struggling from some pretty severe issues with her self-esteem and self-worth. She wants to be a vampire because she thinks it will fix her issues with herself; she's afraid of growing old and not being desirable to her partner which is sadly a very common fear people have so it makes her relatable which is good for the protag of a novel... but
If you are going to cover topics like self-loathing and depression we need to have a think about how to handle those topics responsibly which I don't think the og Twilight series does... for now let's just keep in mind that depression and self esteem are themes we should keep for Bella's personal character arc.
The Parents
Bella refers to both of her parents by their first names, unless she's talking to them. As someone who does this with her mother... that's not really something you do overnight or if you have an actual relationship with your parent. You can actually physically feel the gap between you, and it kind of sucks sometimes. It also explains a lot of those character traits listed above
Bella's mom sucks ass and I was surprised to find that's not as controversial of an opinion as I thought it would be. She is more invested in her relationship with her new husband than she is her daughter, Bella apparently was the primary cook, Bella keeps secrets from her mom because her mom's mental and emotional well being is extremely reliant on her, and to top it all off apparently she told Bella a bunch of intimate details about how she left her dad which IS NOT SOMETHING YOU SHOULD DO OH MY GOD. It isn't healthy for a kid to know the intimate details about the break down of their parent's marriage!!! Especially if it was messy!!! That's so damaging for a kid, it's a form of parentification where the child is forced to emotionally parent the person who is supposed to be doing the actual parenting. Charlie is a character no one seems to have any major complaints about, and that includes me: I think keeping him more or less the same works. He deeply loves his daughter and wants to have that personal relationship with her he never got to have while she was primarily living with her mother. His reactions to the things that happen in the series are completely normal and he shows the appropriate level of concern when Bella enters her depressive state after Edward breaks up with her.
The main thing I would change about how the parents are portrayed has to do with the break up between Edward and Bella in book 2. I think it was mentioned that Bella did not want to go to therapy... but given the circumstances: major depressive episode, night terrors, potentially abusive relationship, all after a major life change (the move to Forks) it would make sense to me for Bella and Charlie to go to a family therapist together before Bella goes to individual sessions. The breakdown of her parent's marriage, her mom's parentification of her, and her lack of real relationship with either parent is something I would want to see addressed and it's realistic for family therapy to be suggested with all those factors I mentioned. Bella doesn't need to have a fully mended relationship with her dad by the end of the series, but it would make the story a lot better if by connecting with him through family therapy she decides to trust him enough to tell him about Edward being a vampire and Jacob being a werewolf.
The Cullens
I have watched one episode of Vampire Diaries, so the concept of a why a bunch of vampire's would want to go back to highschool isn't too much of a concern for me.  Using it as a way to re-learn what society is like makes sense… but that needs to be the stated reason and not vaguely implied.  It also makes more sense to me if Rosalie and Emmet don't attend the highschool and instead pretend to be college students who live with Emmet's parents.  Japser, Alice, and Edward are enough to work with, adding more characters to do nothing with doesn't actually help the flow of the story. And oh god does a lot of nothing happen in the actual series.
The overall concept for their characters doesn't bother me too too much.  They're vampires who abstain from human blood and are empowered by not succumbing to their thirst, that's a pretty basic plot line and more importantly it gives us a conflict to work with.  Everyone thinks the sparkles are dumb, so instead let's just go with the Dracula thing where they can't use their powers during the day.  Since the Cullens are supposed to be stronger due to their lack of preying on humans, maybe they can use their powers but not as effectively? Alice still gets visions for example, but Edward has trouble telling whose thoughts are whose, Jasper can't always get a frim grip on people's emotions, Emmet isn't as strong, and Rosalie sort of just looks tired as opposed to beautiful.
The Volturi
They are the oldest vampire coven and potentially the largest. Again don't have much of a problem with this or wouldn't rather if they had some fucking character. I had to google Aro's name. He's one of their leaders and the only one who I felt was actually acting in the whole movie and I had to google his goddamn name. Also I am only going to mention this once and I am only going to talk about it here but:
Stephanie Myer is a Mormon and as a result her world building is very Mormon. Did you know Aro has a wife? I didn't, but pretty much every major character in the series is married and lives with their "children" and their children's spouses. Which is a fine way to live if you aren't weird about it but I don't trust these people aren't.
Anyway all of this section is to stay that they Volturi can more or less stay the same as they are already, but the rules they've established for vampire kind need to be introduced to the reader (and their existence) almost immediately instead of in book 2.
The Werewolves
The biggest thing I would change about the werewolves is the bit about them being "awakened" by the presence of vampires.  I think it makes more sense if the wolves just awaken when they feel a strong need to protect their family period, the presence of vampires just makes the process speed up a whole lot because of the tribe's history.  I also think it makes sense for the Pack to be viewed as sort of protectors of the land and the people from supernatural threats by humans who are aware, and for this to be sort of emphasized with Charlie's relationship with Jacob's dad and grandfather.
I mentioned that I would have Bella and Charlie connect after going to family therapy, but now that I think about it, I would also have Charlie know about the werewolf pack before Bella tells him.  He leaves the supernatural policing to them and focuses on the human crimes, that way he's able to focus his resources and protect his people better.  Maybe he comes to Bella first and admits he's been lying to her and lays out what he knows and that's what gets her to open up about Edward being a vampire.
Misc.
From what I have managed to piece together, the main "plot" of twilight is that Bella and Edward meet, they stare into each other's eyes a whole bunch and realize one has good smelling blood and the other is a vampire. Edward introduces Bella to his coven and some other vampires show up??? And want to eat Bella??? And then they run away and oh no. The evil vampires have found them again and try to eat Bella and then Edward kills him but leaves his wife alive so the rest of the books are just a girlboss trying to get revenge on Edward by killing his partner. Until the last book when the Volturi show up angry because Bella isn't a vampire yet and has given birth to a half vampire and while I am on that last point: no half vampire baby, we are throwing out that whole ass plot point. I think people sometimes go overboard in assuming Mormon creators make everything about their fiction Mormon but there is nothing more fundamentalist than immediately getting married and having kids at 18. It doesn't need to happen, we can just re-write that whole book. Ok? Ok.
This is probably where most of the variations in how to fix the series come in tbh. Is it just a romance series? Do you want supernatural adventures? What are the stakes? Do we address the abusive undertones to Bella and Edward's relationship and make it a plot point or do we try to fix Edward? The original series doesn't have much going on in it... except for one thing which I want to bring up now.  If you like the idea of Twilight (vampire romance set in a small town where supernatural stuff happens) I would highly recommend playing the Wayhaven Chronicles by Misha Jenkins.  Because she also has a protagonist with special blood that is enticing to vampires and blocks their powers… but in her interactive fiction series she explains it as being a natural mutation humans have evolved to protect themselves from supernaturals.  Their blood also empowers all supernaturals, not just vampires.  Both of these ideas are ones I like, but since the only creatures we are working with in Twilight are Vamps and Werewolves, let's keep Bella's blood to only effecting vampires.
For my part, the more I have thought about Edward's character, he doesn't seem like he's mature enough to be in a relationship. He clearly has some unaddressed traumas about his vampirism that are getting in the way of him making friends let alone a girlfriend, so for my "fixed" series he isn't Bella's endgame.
Anyway here are some more specific bullet points idk:
Book 1
James the tracker gets introduced before the actual vampire reveal happens.  He tracks and attacks Bella, Edward protects her, and they start hanging out more based off of a mutual attraction fueled by Bella's desire to be needed and Edward's desire to preserve what he perceives to be as a pure human soul.
Alice becomes Bella's first real good friend and encourages her to explore things that interest her.  Bella starts taking care of her appearance a bit more, not in a "oh good she wears make up now" way but in a way where she buys clothes because she likes them and not because her mom would approve of them and remembers to brush her hair.
Jacob is introduced and Bella thinks of him as friend, it's clear she sees him as still a kid and doesn't take him seriously.  This bothers him, but we don't find out why in this book.
Edward tells Bella that James isn't something she should worry about any more, but that is a lie.  He has been attempting to protect Bella on his own, with some help from Emmet and Rosalie on occasion, but he feels a personal responsibility to keep James away from Alice and Bella. (Alice apparently was turned by James or something? Anyway this should be a bonding point for Alice and Bella)
He still breaks in to watch her sleep and all that shit and Bella rationalizes this, even claiming to be flattered as all she's ever really wanted is to be cared about and this feels like someone cares.
But then she gets a call from James threatening her mother and because Bella sees herself as her mom's protector she runs straight into that trap.
Blah blah blah Edward has to drain poison from Bella, they officially start dating.
Book 2
Bella's birthday.  She doesn't like being the center of attention or birthdays in general and no one really seems to get this.  Her dad asks if she wants a cake or something and promises not to buy candles, and since Bella likes cake she agrees if he promises not to sing.
Her friends at school wish her happy birthday except for Jacob who gives her his present "just because."  It's clear to Edward that Jacob is someone she cares about and this makes him jealous because he cannot stand seeing her interact happily with someone else.
Alice has planned a birthday party for Bella and is extremely excited to officially introduce her to the rest of the family, even though she has already met them, since she knows how much Edward likes Bella and she's rooting for him.
Blah blah blah, cut happens, Jasper freaks, Carslie talks a bit with Bella, and then oof
Edward dumps Bella in the middle of the woods the next day and she doesn't take it well. Speaking of which this pissed me off so fucking much "oh uwu I can't be with u because I am worried about how fragile u are and I'll huuuurt you" *proceeds to break up with her in the middle of the fucking woods where she can easily get lost and die*
Depressive episode like normal
Bella realizes she can still see Edward if she is about to do something dangerous and still goes to find those motorbikes and take them to Jacob.
Bella's human friends don't really get as much of a focus even though they are there, so I'd like to bring them back here for a moment.  Maybe the pink one encourages Bella to go see a therapist after Bella brushes off her dad's suggestion because she's been thinking about the risk seeking behavior and is worried she encouraged it.  She also admits to seeing a therapist herself and this surprises Bella, who decides maybe it couldn't really hurt.
As Bella talks with Jacob she says something about him being a kid and he gets offended by this, heavily hinting at maybe him liking her
But, as opposed to Edward who always brushed off Bella's offer of protection, when talking about Sam Jacob reacts positively to Bella's offer of help and makes the same promise. "You watch my back I'll watch yours."
Cliff diving scene stays but like it's not done on a whim, Bella gets a group together of kids from the highschool maybe? No weird movie date scene because that was cringe.
Anyway Edward thinks she dies, Alice comes for a visit, werewolf Jake freaks but trusts Bella when she says she will be fine and says he trusts her.
The book ends with Bella bargaining for the Cullen's freedom from the Volturi by agreeing to become a vampire, initially she offers to allow Aro or whatever the fuck to turn her but Alice intervenes and offers to do it herself. They set a date for after her graduation, and are warned of grave consequences if they do not comply.
Edward and Bella do not get back together at the end of the book.
Book 3
Bella and Alice are back to being besties.  While Bella is not back together with Edward, but she is not dating Jacob either.  She is attempting to maintain a friendship with both but it's not really working, as Jacob can tell she's keeping some sort of secret from him.
This secret being her impending turning, and the general theme of people trying to convince her that she doesn't need to do this remains.
There is a real focus on the lack of choice most of the Cullens had with becoming vampires and how that has affected them, with a heavy emphasis placed on Edward.
Edward and Carlisle have a long talk. Carlisle talks about the concept of soulmates and how he always hoped Edward would find his, but admits he maybe placed too much of an emphasis on that instead of actually addressing the problems he was having in the hopes that love would fix him.
Since this is my post, I think Aro should be a sort of character foil to Edward. Ed doesn't want Bella to become a vampire even though she would (allegedly) make a very powerful one, while Aro should be obsessed with making Bella into a vampire because of her blood. I would also make it so that Aro's "wife" was once like Bella, with the same good smelling blood, and directly contrast Aro's sense of ownership over her with how Edward had been thinking about Bella.
This terrifies Edward who also has a deep talk with Bella and apologizes, and while Bella accepts it they still don't get back together because-
Bella always had more chemistry with Jacob anyway. They share interests and hobbies, they like talking with each other, Jake is someone she is good friends with and someone she really is going to miss when she dies and becomes a vampire.
Idc let the plot with the newborn army remain, but like make the talk about imprinting actually mean something. Maybe Jacob has already imprinted on Bella but he's keeping that shit to himself because he doesn't want to pressure her.
Maybe it all comes out while he's wounded and Bella finally tells him about what she has agreed to do.
And then the book ends with them both agreeing they don't want that to happen
There's a book 4?
So I have no idea what goes on in the end of the Twilight series.
There's a war?
But not actually because it was just a vision Alice had?
Um I think there is potential for some sort of actual battle between the Volturi, other vampire covens, and the werewolves.
Apparently according to the wiki Aro's wife is locked in a tower somewhere in a trance because he killed her sister? And she was upset about that?
Uhhhh maybe they decide to use that to spark some in fighting between the Volturi
Jacob and Bella can get married at the sensible age of like 25 in the epilogue
And Edward gets with someone else idk. Maybe one of the newborns from Vicky's army who he goes on a healing journey with.
meh that's what I've got. I still like the idea of Bella being into catching beetles and moths and that's why she's ok with being in the woods a whole lot but that's not super important.
Tumblr media
I think it should sort of low key freak both Edward and Jacob out. But that's just my opinion~

*slides over on a countertop to leave 💌🍬💡 then gets dragged away*
"HEY! THAT'S MY BESTIE, THEY'RE WITH ME!" Oh how I love when you do this 🥰
💌Is there a favorite trope you like to write?
*looks at all my found family father-daughter fics* why do you ask?
No but fr, as it goes for the tropes within that? All the hurt-comfort filled aftercare stuff is my favorite. And of course The Physical Affection™ 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 will sprinkle that shit in whenever I can.
🍬 Do you write for multiple fandoms? If yes, what is your favorite fic of yours for each fandom?
I got brave and branched out after four years of writing for Titans only, now you can find me over at The Last of Us, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and that awesome little space indie movie called Prospect. I also got some beloved works for His Dark Materials. Hmm, as for favorites:
TITANS: Usually my answer is Wicked Game but this time I want to highlight my two current favorites which are my two of my most recent fics I loved, and I loved, and I lost you and I am flesh, bones... I am skin, soul… both started out as one shots, both got surprise second chapters, the latter of which will get more. Two recent ideas that really got me excited about writing Titans again. The first one is an unexpected exploration of my grief after losing my beloved show - I say "unexpected" because this fic was never in the plans until it hit me like a wrecking ball one day and I had to drop everything to write it. And the second one was drifting in my head for a while, fed by things other shows had given me, until Titanstober Challenge came and gave me an excuse to write it!
THE LAST OF US: I have to go with And We Were Dancing Like We're Made Of Starlight, the fic where Joel and Ellie find an abandoned mansion and have a little dance in the ballroom, because the idea just warms my heart when I think about it, the response of the fandom to it was amazing AND WE GOT A VIDEO OF PEDRO AND BELLA DANCING TO MATCH IT - sick coincidence that this footage dropped like a day or two after I posted this fic BECAUSE LOOK AT THEMMMM
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROSPECT: Haunted is my baby. It's an AU where the shitty bio father survives the events of the movie and the found father gets to be Feral Protective™, beat the crap out of him (for trying to steal and hurt his girl again) and tell him how much he fucked up yes this is me recompensating myself for not getting Dick vs. Trigon
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: I've only written two so far, but I'm going with Her Father's Daughter because the scene which this fic is an extension of absolutely wrecked me and is one of my all time favorite scenes from this series. The weight of grief when the person you're grieving isn't even gone yet, the fear that is ripping Daisy apart, the absolute hopelessness of the situation and Coulson's calm belief that she's going to be alright, I couldn't let it go without exploring it.
HIS DARK MATERIALS: One Word is the winner here. I rarely get invested in romantic relationships, especially these days, but Will and Lyra are the exception, they own my heart. And this fic is fixing their ending and letting them be happy because if there's one thing I will never be okay with is the fact these two didn't get their happily ever after and if you knew why, you'd agree with me 😩
💡How many WIPs do you currently have?
I'd say 4, though there's some actual work done on only one, the rest is just notes
THANK YOU LOVE!

Your Bella Goth Theories!
i wrote wayyyyy too much sorry this is more of a plot i have in my head than anything 😭
she did get abducted by aliens, but they all started freaking out due to kidnapping THE bella goth instead of that lame slut that nobody cares about 😒 they don't really need the flack of capturing a well-known person again. it makes what they do soooo much harder 🙄 so after panicking for a bit they just drop her ass right outside of strangetown fuck it.
congruently, daddy bigbucks and his bestie attorney lily gates are on their way to strangetown to start that bullshit ass show he makes, but this time on the way a wormhole opens up in the sky and the bigbucks from the end of the gba game (you know, when his shit ends up coming back to bite him in the ass), falls from the sky and causes them to have an accident, and the gba!bigbucks takes over their operation. they happen upon bella and take her hostage too, and really start monetizing on the "bella got abducted by aliens" story. merch, signs, ads in the paper, they bring on a look-alike bella to walk around strangetown and eat out of the trash act nothing like bella so ppl can talk and call the hotline they bought. really banking on this.
after some time passes and they're racking in a moderate amount of money, gba!bigbucks decides that the original idea he had with the strangetown reality show could work with pv/st/vv is in it too lets pretend there's a reason why it was incorporated. they have the money, the inkling of a plot that could go any way possible, all they needed to do was put that shit into action.
bella during all of this is just living lavish in bigbucks mansion. as time goes on the urge + guilt to go back to her family lessens more and more as the frankly fucked up reality tv plans grows. technically she's even more of star now than she was before, but she's more subdued to the public because she's never really cared about 'fame' in regards to the public. the only things she does now are be the "woman that got abducted" and show up in the show sometimes to stir some shit, and hang with her friends and make moneyyyyyyy. she gets to be beautiful and fabulous and gorgeous with few responsibilities and that's how its been for almost 20 years :3
ask me more abt this if anybody wants tooo i skimmed details in my head bc i realized i was stretching the word "theory" out.
How Did You Start Playing the Sims?
probably would have the same answer as here :)
Do you use the Lifetime or Career Rewards?
nooo i don't. they're just so boring to me and i always forget they exist tbh

Are we gonna see more of the beef Mikey has with Bella? Because tbh the way he gets mad at her for no reason has me cackling
I wouldn't really say he has beef with her? He gets mad at her because she picks a fight with a good friend of his for (to Mikey's perspective) no good reason. And deprives their group of a horticulturist, which they kind of need. Also, add to that, he's projecting hardcore. Mikey would kill to be with Donnie again, so the fact that the first thing Bella does upon seeing her brother for the first time in forever is argue with him pisses him off. He wishes he had what she was given, and to him it feels like she's taking it for granted.
Other than that, they're kind of just very different people. Bella is very abrasive and can seem like an asshole to people who don't know her and don't realize that she legitimately doesn't realize she's coming off that way. She's actually very similar in personality to Donnie, but unlike Donnie she doesn't have that older sibling softness he shows to Mikey. (I mean, she is taking a sort of older sister/crazy aunt role with them, but not really in a soft way) And even with their established relationship, it's still shown that Mikey doesn't always get along with Donnie either-he still jokes about kicking him out of the group and drags him along with the rest of the fam.
Also, like, Mikey be going through shit. Harkening back to her being a lot like Donnie, in conjunction to Raph and Leo and now even April hanging out with her a lot, I think Mikey might feel like Bella is taking Donnie's place. Which is stupid and he'd logically know that-they all very clearly still miss Donnie and want him back, and half the time she's actively helping them work on that. But that's how he feels.
I don't know if I've talked about this on the blog or just in the comments, but I have mentioned that the way the sibs (Leo and April in particular) are treating Mikey is in part just them taking their frustration out on him. Now it's less of a problem because they can direct their negative feelings towards Draxum, (can't really unload on him, but just being angry in his direction is helping) but before they knew that Draxum was responsible? They were just angry and frustrated and terrified, and without a target to direct it at all those feelings were just stewing inside them. Mikey was there, and he was someone they could justify blowing up at. He didn't deserve it, and deep down they knew he didn't deserve it, but those feelings had to come out somewhere.
I feel like Bella is a lot of that for Mikey. He's directing a lot of his negative feelings at her because she's an easy target for it. And part of the reason it's hard to write Mikey's side is because I feel like he's emotionally mature enough to realize that he's doing that. Logically, he knows that the fam isn't trying to replace Donnie-she might remind them of him, but they still want Donnie back. He knows that not every family is like his and knows that some people do have to cut their siblings off. He knows that Bella isn't trying to be an asshole and is just socially inept. But Mikey be going through it. He knows that he's taking it out on Bella, he knows that it's not fair, but confronting that makes him feel like shit about himself. And he just doesn't have that in him.

Well, asking y'all to hold any woman accountable who isn't a TIFs sure is an uphill battle. We do know women can be held accountable in these circles correct?
Like they're responsible for the behavior they choose to participate in, especially as adults, and we have a right (& DUTY as feminist) to criticize those behaviors. Even if those behaviors are perpetrated by the horrible society theyre in, that choosing to enforce sexist stereotypes is a behavior we should criticize. I don't know why y'all act like socialization is this binary on and off thing that controls all our actions and like there's no choice or free will involved? Nor will I treat women so infantile that they cannot be held accountable for the bad things they choose to do. I don't believe women are stupid/ have a childlike understanding of right and wrong.
Yeah the man who asked for inappropriate things in bed should be held accountable, the women who enforce that and do those things for them should be held accountable for perpetuating those ideas too. Male: misogynistic and violent/ female: misogynistic. I am no way saying the women are just as bad at The Men who perpetrate violence on these lines, however, what they're doing is still reinforcing these standards in the society that made them think that it was a good idea in the first place, set up future women for the same trap.
As feminist we have a job to call that out, even if you think it makes you look like a bad person. I mean I've seen y'all be pretty vicious towards girls who call themselves bimbos, but somehow telling women that their behaviors inappropriate and damaging when it comes to things like ddlg/"petplay" is too far? You're calling that victim blaming? She's not a child, she's choosing to pretend to be one to please her partner.
Y'all use the word victim blaming to infantilize women and I think it's disgusting. There's a difference between blaming something that happened to someone on them, like the clothes someone was wearing when they got assaulted, and holding people accountable for the choices they make, like Bella Dephine dressing up as a child to do a kidnapping rape fantasy. In one of these cases you are actually a 'true victim' (crime has been done on to you), the other is setting up future perpetrators with fantasy material, which is a problem, even though she is influenced by our porn sick pedophilic society (victim of society, but perpetrator of pedophilia). If we use "victim blaming" the way I've seen some of y'all use it in the past couple months, where we act like being victims of a society, (which everyone who isn't a straight, white, able body/mind, rich man is in someway or another), then we need to just hang up our hats. We can't call almost anyone out on the things that they are doing that poisons our society without being victim blamers, even if they're causing direct harm and we will just be infantilizing women to the point where we're pretending like they don't understand why their actions can be right or wrong, and that is misogynistic on our part. A conflict with my stance that women are fully formed capable people.
Grow a backbone and, you know, start considering whether or not you're being ideologically consistent. The double think is killing me and quite frankly this space is slowly becoming choice feminism 2.0. Useless.

What if Edward was the stereotypical nerdiest nerd to ever nerd? We're talking pocket protectors and waxing lyrically about the moon landing at inappropriate times. We're talking so nerdy that even Alice can't convince him to dress fashionably because "this outfit has the optimal arrangement of pockets". An Edward who somehow, despite venom, has no aptitude for sports and the physical coordination of a baby kitten. I'm not saying Esme has to catch his dinner for him, but honestly he'd probably appreciate it.
Is Bella still into it? Does the plot change?
It doesn't matter.
Bella has no interest in Edward's personality. Much like Edward makes up Bella's personality, Bella ignores the parts of Edward's personality she doesn't like, which is his entire personality save "vampirism". She's irritated in the first part of Twilight by his cryptic, enigmatic, responses as well as his hot and cold behavior towards her. In Eclipse she chafes under his controlling nature when she wants to visit Jacob.
Bella doesn't actually like Edward that much, he just so happens to be a vampire very interested in her with the right air of mystery and intellectualism so it all works out.
My point being, you say this as if Edward isn't already super nerd/failing all social cues imaginable.
The due waxes poetics about how Bella is a bright comet streaking across the sky blinding him to good things in life. Not only is that a disturbing thing to say to anyone (God Only Knows plays in the background here) but it's fucking ridiculous. Who says this shit in normal conversation?
He also eats her tears, in front of her.
It doesn't matter.
At all.
Because Bella's not here to listen to what he says or think about the fact that he has binders filled with baseball cards since the 1900's. Bella's here for the aesthetic and Edward is most certainly still an intellectual vampire.
He just writes her sonnets now.
And they're fucking horrible.

Lecture And Contextual Research
After doing a majority of my work at home due to personal circumstances I came into college today and fully was motivated and was ready to get myself to university.
I created a general to do list with ideas of practical work I want to experiment with this week although knowing I will always end up with my final result being a painting. I plan to experiment with the media of drawing ink and printing ink, I can create a varied of affects and outcomes using these mediums especially if I apply them on different materials.
Other than planning my week having a shorter day, meant I didn't have time for practical work today. After a short break I made my way to my scheduled lecture at 115pm. The topics of the presentation are generally a surprise each week but to my absolute delight this weeks theme was based off the human body primarily based on women.
The artists I was shown and podcasts I watched gave me an a strong motive and desire to create contextual research on the subject matters.
Sex Symbols
A topic I hadn't thought of before my lecture is known sex symbols. What does that mean though? It's almost sad to say but it is a person widely noted for the sexual attractiveness. This term was created in the early 1900s, in this time the term was primarily used on women stars from the movie industry whilst the generation we are now both genders are taken into account. Theda Bara was the first official Hollywood sex symbol after starring in a silent movie 'A Fool there Was' she plays a femme vampire. Her clothing in this film isn't sufficient coverage and I can see why the world would grow to fantasise this woman due to elegance and beauty.
Initially when I think of the phrase 'Sex symbol' my mind goes to one of the most well known women of all time. Marilyn Monroe. Her beauty was obvious to the public eye but the title of sex symbol came from her nude pictures she posed for to generate an income for herself. If it weren't for these erotic images perhaps the title would never have been put on her name.
An image that made me come to the conclusion as to who this actress was, was the artwork created by Andy Warhol using his Pop art movement to capture her features in an abstract motion.
Tumblr media
This piece is worth multiple millions of dollars due to how famous the actress was. This work was created in response to her early death and to show to his viewers how obsessed he became with pop culture and the iconoclastic glamour that came with it.
All this fascination links consistently to my theme and how sexual attraction has developed on the female body. Preferences and 'my type on paper' has all come from references of beautiful women and men amongst the movie industry.
A great reference I'd like to mention due to it also supporting my ongoing points and interest, is a film I recently saw at the cinema named 'Poor Things'.
Tumblr media
This film starring Emma Stone contains a lot of graphic sex scenes between couples, friends and even sex workers and there consumers although mildly disturbing due to the gore that comes with the sex I was mentally moved and felt a sense of empowerment from the films message. The main character Bella established she doesn't need a man in an age where women are more or less viewed as property and a sense of pleasure and that's all. It encourages you to find your independent voice even when woman aren't supposed to have a voice or a say in a particular matter.
A TED talk that supports my thoughts on the matter is 'Looks aren't everything, believe me, I'm a model' by Cameron Russel. This talk is all based on the fact women want the career of a model so they feel validation in the way they look. But in actual fact insecurities go deeper that ur attractiveness. It really was relatable due to the fact when I was in primary school that's all I wanted to do. I felt like if I was assigned a model agency my troubles would vanish but in actual fact I know my mentally issues and eating disorders at the time would increase in severity. All for a mans gaze, it's upsetting to think off as I think of it now. Being genetically blessed can can change they way your viewed and the looks you receive walking down the street and that to me is fascinating.
Another talk I enjoyed listening to was 'Vulnerability and Connection' which was spoke by a transgender model of this generation. She encouraged us to be ourselves and take a leap as she did with her gender. This links to how my confidence has grown as I have gained sexual experience and being with different partners in the act.
