i mentioned some of these headcanons in the previous two rambles but i'll take this chance to put the stuff together and maybe elaborate further on some stuff plus a few new headcanons:

hunter and the twins in general:

-they're a little wary of him at first. they don't have the personal baggage with him that amity did. it's more like, just normal needing to adjust to a new step-sibling. like, their family life was already so weird and then stuff got upended with a divorce and their dad's personality basically pulling a positive 180. and then, just as they were starting to get used to that, there is just this guy and his SON who is so awkward and maladjusted just being thrust into their lives. like they'd talked before in a "this is my dad's boyfriend's kid" context but having to have him there as their *brother* all of a sudden is just A Lot (it's like when you introduce a new cat into ur household and you gotta put it in the bathroom so the other cats can smell it through the door lol)

-there's no big moment that makes them click and become friends, more just them slowly all warming up to one another the longer they're forced to be in each other's presence

-hunter is a little on edge around them early on cuz he can tell they haven't really accepted him yet. but also he kinda looks to them as role models and examples of how he should act in this new family structure. bc his main two responses to unfamiliar circumstances are either "look to SOME kind of authority figure for guidance" or "completely withdraw and refuse all help", and this is a situation that calls more for the first reaction. ed and em barely know anything more than him about healthy families but his only other option (aside from their dads, but he's looking for peers to emulate) is amity. so, twins it is.

-he also sometimes clings to them in social/school situations, if none of his flyer derby friends are available

-when the twins finally start to accept hunter as their brother, they start affectionately teasing and pranking him like they do to amity. hunter doesn't understand this At All and is like "oh no, i thought we were doing so well but now they hate me???" and the twins are like "huh, wonder why he's acting even weirder and more nervous than usual. probably just shy about being accepted as our brother now." they all figure it out eventually.

-i WOULD say it gets fixed after hunter opens up about the twins "hating" him to amity or one of his dads and asks for advice. or that he'd at least be able to simply ask the twins what their problem is. but no, he wouldn't be at that point yet, still partially convinced he needs to handle his problems alone, or that whoever he told would hate him too, or that the twins would be pissed at him for not figuring out why they hate him for himself (darius had been helping him unlearn some of that and he's prolly even in therapy but this stuff takes a long time to unlearn). hunter tries to figure it out on his own before eventually breaking and either A: apologizing profusely to them and begging them not to hate him B: lashing out angrily. it ends up okay in the end, though

-as he gets more comfortable with things, hunter doesn't need to cling to the twins anymore. but he still hangs out with them cuz by then he genuinely just likes them as people

-someone at school once referred to him as "the third blight triplet" as a dig at him hanging around his siblings so much. but he wasn't offended, he was actually super happy and flattered about being included with those two.

-he once briefly considered dyeing his hair green to match theirs but after thinking about it, he firmly decided against it. because something like hair would end up feeling less like the intended "matching to show you're a part of the group, like when some best friends all have matching necklaces, or when a team has matching uniforms" and more like he'd be making himself into a copy of them. which would not be good for any of their emotional wellbeing.

-i mentioned that i think the twins would eventually stop getting into so much trouble once they realize they don't have the same strict rules to rebel against and don't need to act out to get attention. but sometime before that but after they befriend hunter, they invite him to go cause mischief with them. a bit because he's their friend now and that's their idea of having fun with friends, a bit because they think some rebellion would be healthy for hunter

-hunter actually agrees. a little bit from peer pressure, sure. but also a part of him kinda needs to rebel, after being so controlled by belos his whole life. and there's also this unhealthy part of him that's unnerved by how non-abusive his new family is and wants to push limits until someone finally snaps (he can't yet fully accept that no matter what he does, no one is gonna snap and hurt him)

-it's something pretty tame by the twins' standards. like, adding some graffiti to an already heavily graffitied alleyway or something. but hunter is having such an adrenaline rush. the twins feel proud of themselves for helping their high-strung brother let loose

-but then they get home and the reality of what they did fully sets in for hunter and he starts Freaking The Fuck Out and finds the nearest dad and confesses and starts profusely apologizing and begging for forgiveness (he accidentally rats the twins out in the process but it's fine because their dads are too busy focusing on calming down hunter to even consider punishing them. still though, they put that down as a second reason to not rope hunter into any more Shenanigans any time soon)

-the twins do decide that they still do need to teach him how to rebel, though. they just decide to stick to things that ARE allowed at home but weren't allowed in the emperor's coven. they egg him on into doing things like taking a nap or helping himself to snacks in between meals or putting off his homework and chores til after dinner instead of doing them as soon as he gets home

-his presence destabilizes the pre-established "the twins are A Unit (that their other sibling is not a part of)" dynamic that was going on with the twins and amity, and indirectly leads both emira and edric to develop closer individual relationships with amity. like, the twins were kinda already beginning to forge their own identities, and they had been getting closer with amity, but his presence accelerated that.

-before any of this, the twins had never really had any close friendships, outside of each other. like, they've had casual friends and romantic flings but no one they could truly be vulnerable around. and almost all of their friends were friends with *both of them as a unit* rather than with them as individuals. again, they were moving towards having their own identities and their own relationships, but their new family situation helped speed up the breaking down of their dependency, and emira and edric start trying to make some close friends of their own, outside of the family

hunter and edric:

-these two are absolute besties

-hunter claims to be the responsible one out of the pair but edric has had to hold hunter back from doing dumbass shit almost as many times as hunter has had to hold back edric. sometimes they balance each other out, other times they just amplify each other's very different flavours of stupidity.

-them fully being besties starts after edric and emira make it their mission to get hunter to break as many belos-rules as possible. edric hears that hunter was forbidden from studying or talking about wild magic. so he decides to get hunter talking about wild magic. and hunter starts infodumping and then apologizes and edric encourages him to continue. at first it's just to encourage rulebreaking but edric very quickly gets invested in what hunter's saying, as he has an interest in wild magic himself

-and something hunter says gets edric talking like "oh that reminds me of this beastkeeping principle" or "that's kinda like this lesson eda gave me" and he goes off on his own infodump

-which reminds hunter of something else he read. and the cycle of them just taking turns infodumping continues for HOURS. it only stops because of some outside factor like it being time for dinner

-from then on, these two just schedule time together to infodump at each other or to study their mutual interests together

-they've invited emira to these sessions before, but she inevitably gets bored after the first 20 minutes, so it's just brother time (amity has gotten involved once or twice, but usually she's not got much interest in joining them)

-edric starts bringing hunter along to his potions-and-wild-magic lessons with eda

-edric is a big people-person and hunter has been isolated and ignored for most of his life so having a best friend be right across the hallway is good for both of them (i mean, edric already had emira as a best friend living with him, but having more than just her is good for him)

-one might worry that edric would just go from being dependent on emira to being dependent on emira *and hunter* but. that doesn't happen. it instead teaches him how to be more independent. his time alone with hunter combined with his time studying beastkeeping and potions in canon show him that "hey, i can do things without emira and still be okay" which later brings the conclusion "i can probably do things without *anyone* and still be okay." he's still very extroverted and prefers not to be alone too much, but being alone is no longer his biggest fear.

-it is important to note that edric doesn't stop spending time with emira or replace her with hunter or anything. he's still got a very special friendship/sibling bond with her. but now he's spending time with her (sometimes alone, sometimes with hunter or amity or their dads, sometimes in social settings with friends) because he genuinely enjoys her company, rather than because he's scared to be alone and needs her.

-at some point it dawns on edric how hunter hardly ever got to act like a child, so he makes it a goal to fix this and gets amity and emira involved too. they make a plan to get together every so often to introduce hunter to things like snowball fights and pillow forts and cartoons on the crystal ball. the og blight siblings (but especially amity) realize that they were forced to grow out of that stuff too early by their parents, so these fun little sibling hangouts are good for all four of them

hunter and emira:

-emira is quick to be nice to him (he is sad and scared and sickly and she is a healer and has Eldest Sister Syndrome) but is slower than the others to fully Trust him (she is habitually cautious on amity and edric's behalf and he's a new person and (though he already proved he was 100% not loyal to the emperor/not Like That anymore) she heard how he treated amity at eclipse lake)

-in those early days when hunter is kinda clinging to the twins for guidance, he clings harder to emira than to edric, because she acts just a little bit more sure of herself that edric

-in some ways this endears him to her and gets her to trust him faster.

-but it also kinda bothers her because having ONE brother clinging to her all the time already felt suffocating, she doesn't know how she'll deal with a second one. he at least doesn't bring the same "being considered a matched pair" baggage that edric did, but still.

-hunter stops clinging to her (and edric) as he gets more comfortable and less nervous about life. and edric is no longer glued to her side almost 24/7 when they're at home, because now he's got a brother to hang out with (or sometimes he hangs out with amity because, as mentioned many paragraphs ago, he and emira have both forged their own close relationships with amity)

-emira's really relieved to have some alone time to figure herself out, and to not have the constant low-level stress of people needing her all of the time

-but she is also Afraid. hunter doesn't need her for guidance anymore. edric doesn't need her constant company anymore. even amity doesn't need emira to protect and take care of her anymore (because now there are actual adults to run to). she worries that, now that no one *needs* her, no one will *want* her anymore.

-her fears prove unfounded as nobody stops hanging out with her but she's still a little worried. but she tries to push those feelings down/hide them. but edric notices something's up because they've spent 16+ years together so he can recognize when she's hiding something. so she opens up to him and he reassures her that he still likes her (in a way, moreso now than ever) now that he isn't so dependent on her, and he's always happy to spend time with her. there is probably a little bit of crying and/or hugging involved. with edric's encouragement, she also opens up to amity and hunter about it and they also reassure her.

-emira and her siblings (but especially her and edric) have a big 4-way talk about what they all need, and how to make each other feel included but not suffocated. surprisingly healthy and responsible communication between all of them.

-it's good for her, to have more time alone without any of her siblings. sometimes she just enjoys the quiet or figures herself out and explores her own interests. sometimes she uses it to make friends outside the family, to befriend them as *just emira*, rather than as emira-and-edric or as emira-and-edric-and-hunter

-hunter (grimwalker) and emira (twin) bond over feeling like a copy of somebody else. edric can kinda also relate but he's not as distressed about it as emira and hunter are

-hunter and emira (and occasionally edric) like to hang out by putting on skin care face masks (hunter learned to enjoy them from darius long before he became a blight) and complain about life or commiserate about their emotional Issues. or just watch low-budget movies and mock them relentlessly

-but a lot of their friendship, when no one else is there to bring the energy, is just kind of a quiet deal. hanging out in the same room doing different things, like cats do. or doing little favours for one another. like, hunter will braid emira's hair and emira will heal the scrapes and bruises hunter got from flyer derby practice

-emira is the first family member that hunter is comfortable receiving physical affection from (aside from dadrius, who earned that honour way back when their family was just himself and hunter). i just Feel It In My Heart

bonus hunter and amity headcanon:

-they like to go to the library together. for amity, it's sometimes to do her job, sometimes just to read. for hunter, it's to be able to finally read all he wants about wild magic without having to be secretive about it. sometimes amity will help him get books from the forbidden stacks (after asking for permission from the head librarian- she learned her lesson from that one time with luz.) eventually, she trusts him enough to let him into her secret hideout. he's allowed to use it anytime he needs to, on the conditions that he doesn't snoop through her personal belongings, and that he'll get out if she needs to use it to be alone

hot take: people's hc's and hopes for s5 are the most angsty things i've ever read and i cannot imagine enough comfort in the world to balance out some of the angsty shit people are putting out there. we've already gotten 4 seasons of byler angst, haven't people had enough?? my fragile constitution cannot handle the dramatics. why do people write out mike and will saying the most heartbreaking shit to each other?? i just want them to forehead touch and kiss to a beautiful musical score. i want them to bake a loaf of bread together and eat it at sunset and then hold hands at nightfall. that's it, that's s5.

we've sat through four seasons of them getting their shit rocked, i'd like to believe that in season five they'll stick to their promise and finally be a team again for good this time. mike already admitted that he thought he was worrying too much about el to the point that he'd lost will--i don't want that to be the case again. obviously the First Lie is going to come up and has the potential to ruffle some feathers, but like .. i have had Enough lol<3 canon already has enough misery and frustration, i come on here to talk about them indulging in some gay shit. and considering the duffers aren't planning on making s5 as long as s4 was, i ESPECIALLY do not want their story to be mostly angst up until the second to last episode.

so when he finds you sobbing his first reaction would be patting your shoulder or arm and getting closer to you

he ain’t familiar with physical affection so he doesn’t really know what to do

Metal family tkl hcs lol

Absolutely no one asked for this, purely self indulgence. I hope someone enjoys this nonetheless, also that it doesn’t find its way onto a regular blogs feed through the tag. lmao

I’ll start with Vicky bc hers will probably be the shortest, rest of the fam under the cut!

Vicki:

Ok so she’s not very ticklish

Her sides, hips, and back are ticklish a bit I think

She definitely has more of a grunty laugh

Oh, you wanna try and tickle her? Death.

She does not like it do not touch her it will not work You Will Die.

Glam did it once, luckily they were already serious and far in the relationship, otherwise he simply would not be here </3

Safe to say he will not be doing that again!!

As Heavy mentioned in his q&a video, she is rough and will probably hurt you

I doubt it would be on purpose, especially with her kid, but she’s strong, she’s ever heard of the word ‘gentle’

She might tickle Glam occasionally, she thinks he is cute :)

Dee:

You’d either have to offer him a hundred bucks or point a gun at him for Dee to admit he’s ticklish

Spoiler alert: he is.

It’s probably become not as bad over the years, but it's still pretty bad

His worst spots are his back and sides, as well as his feet

He will try to hold it in for as long as he can, smack ur hands away, threaten to kill you, etc, he doesn’t last long tho

He mostly hates it, unless he *really* likes you, or you’re family

At some point he will snort, and he will die from embarrassment

Once you break him, his laugh will go up 5 octaves

He’s a cutie tho :D

Despite everything, he has good endurance and can go a long time before he really can’t take it anymore

I think he would find lightly tickling/stroking his back to be relaxing

He 100% knows the science behind tickling

If you cet him bad and he’s standing, he’ll just crumble to the floor lol

Glam will tickle him occasionally when he’s being too much of a grump, which is a lot of the time

If you lightly scratch his armpits, especially when his arms are held up and he can’t put them down, he will go CRAZY

When he’s especially being an edgelord, Vicki and Glam team up to dish it out on him, ofc Vicki is the one holding him up and Glam does the tickling

LER TIME LER TIME

He will definitely get revenge if someone dare tickle him

He is RUTHLESS

Dee has very fast and precise fingers, watch out

He will definitely tease/make fun of you

Stuff like “I’m barely touching you!” “You already can’t handle it?” “You can’t possibly be THIS ticklish” (he says, denying how ticklish he is)

He tickles Heavy a lot when he pisses him off

He’ll only stop if he thinks ur gonna piss yourself, then it’s not worth it anymore

He may have mercy if you’re on his good side

Heavy:

He is ticklish everywhere

His feet and tummy are definitely the worst of the worst tho

I think he is a tiny bit on the chubby side, so there is plenty of softness to be tickled :)

HE WILL SCREAM

He’s a little shit so he cops it a lot

Heavy and Dee having tickle fights a lot <33333

I think it's 50/50 as to who wins lol

I feel like this goes for both kids, but especially Heavy, which is Glam giving him lots of raspberries as a toddler :)

He will curl up immediately if someone tickles him

His armpits r definitely ticklish, but no one would go for it bc he STINKS

He cannot hold his laughter in, even for a second

Tickles from uncle Chive? I think yes.

He can’t handle a lot, he will definitely piss himself lol

Harder tickles hurt him easily (this is basically canon tho) so he prefers lighter tickles

He leans towards being a lee, and some part of him deep inside enjoys it lol

His laugh is very chaotic and high pitched, ig because he’s a child lol

He doesn’t tickle people much, but he totally tickles Dee a lot

He’s surprisingly good at holding someone down to tickle them

He goes straight for their worst spot first lol

He never stays in in one spot for too long

He highly enjoys playing around and laughs along

Chive/Ches:

Award for biggest Ler of the century goes to …

He’s very playful and chill so he definitely just pokes people

He mainly just tickles people for a second or two when he’s being silly and having fun

He tickles Glam, like, a lot. This is canon because I say so

He tickled Glam as a kid, and he does it now as well

I think when Dee and Heavy were really little he would pick them up and pretend to play them like guitars, obviously tickling them in the process

Big tease

Like literally every type of teasing imaginable, he just likes to be funny lol

He doesn’t seem like the type to hold anyone down to tickle them

He just goes at it

He loves to hear laughter and he loves to laugh along

I don’t think he’s *too* ticklish, but he’s got a few good places

Ticklish tummy. fuzzy.

Ches DEFINITELY has ticklish thighs

Also his knees

Basically kneading into any soft spot of his, like his thighs or sides, will get him cackling

I think he wouldn’t mind being tickled, as long as it's not for too long/ too rough

He probably even likes it

He wouldn’t ask for it tho

I think he enjoys starting up a good tickle fight

He almost always wins

A rough, breathy, hiccupy, but silly laughter. Yeah I think that suits him

Lots of snorts and stuff

He squealed when he was younger for sure

He bites his tongue when he holds in his laughter but you can hear a slight whistling bc of his tooth lol

He loves to laugh and smile, he loves the people who do it to him, he loves it :)

Where is he not ticklish? Idk ur mom lol

He likes tickly neck kisses hehe

I think to a certain extent he just,,, lets people do it? He will just sit there goin C= and he won’t move if someone starts tickling him, simply start laughing.

He’ll start giggling and blushing if someone wriggles their fingers over a tickle spot

Sometimes Vicki or Chive will sit on his hips and wriggle their fingers over his tummy, slowly getting closer and then pulling back up right before touching him. It gets him cackling before anythings even happened, but he looks so happy it's so pure oh god

Ok so going from his q&a, he did have some parts of his childhood that was,,, a childhood, so I don’t think he’s never been tickled as a kid. It probably didn’t happen that often, and once he and Lydia got past, like age 7, they probably stopped.

So once Glam met Chive, he most likely forgot what it had felt like :(

DW Chive to the rescue

A 1 am convo that probably went something like “u ticklish bro?” “i dont know what you are talking about.” “ok you gotta be” *continues to wreck him lol*

It was one of the first ‘new’ positive experience he had with his life so that's why he enjoys it

you stopped showing up to practice

and shortly after , you avoided and ignored the second year as a whole

it took about less than two days for noya to realize that you weren’t around for him

and even worse — you seemed to have no interest in talking to him when he did try and approach you

uh oh , he really messed up now

he approached the third years with his head hung low , wanted advice on how to talk to you again

and they were willing to help , of course ; but not before giving him absolute hell for not noticing his own actions sooner

it took three tries to get you to talk to noya again

daichi approached you first after class , wanting you to come back to practice again ; you politely told him no , and before he could press on further , you hastily turned heel and walked away

second attempt was suga and asahi , suga was more straightforward with his attempt at bringing you back , while the other was just there mainly for support ; he explained that noya felt apologetic and wanted to make it up to you , but you countered with “ if he really was sorry , he’d come himself . not make you do it for him . ” and you left

third time’s a charm — kiyoko was the final person to confront you

you were still upset , and she understood that completely — she explained that even with noya’s , ehem , worship over her , he still cares about you deeply ; he just gets overly excited and doesn’t know how to control it

and she added that there was no practice due to ukai being out that day , but yuu was still waiting for you in the gym

you finally gave in , walking slowly to see kiyoko’s words speak for themselves — there he was , sitting against the wall with his eyes staring intently at the ground

“ yuu . . . ”

his head popped upwards the moment he heard your voice , scrambling to his feet to sprint to you as fast as his two legs could take him

before you could say anything else , he jumped forward and pulled you into the biggest hug he could offer ; shakily , you hugged back with the same intensity , burying your face in him as he just continued to squeeze you as if you’d disappear if he dared let go

he began to blubber all sorts of apologies — about how stupid of a boyfriend he was , that he should’ve noticed he was hurting your feelings sooner , that he shouldn’t have been fawning over kiyoko

he would’ve continued , but you shut his mouth with a finger , smiling softly as you shook your head

“ it’s okay , i forgive you . it just . . . hurt my feelings , is all . i know you like kiyoko a lot , so i didn’t want to — ”

“ no , y/n . you’re my s.o. , i shouldn’t have been like that . you’re my priority , not kiyoko . she used to be , but not anymore . i know that now , and that will never happen again , i promise . ”

and believe me , his redemption went all out

he'd walk you to and from school , catch up with you after every class , walk you to lunch , compliment your clothes and remind you of how much he appreciates you having in his life - kiyoko basically became nonexistent to him after that

tanaka didn't seem to mind - now he had the manager all to himself KDKSKKD

once in a while he gets caught up again , but this time he's more wary of your feelings ; if he sees that your mood has changed even a little bit , he'll ask you if he's too much , and then he'll forget about kiyoko again

yuu definitely has a long way to go until he's a perfect boyfriend , but he'll dedicate himself to make sure you know that you're irreplaceable in his eyes

ryuunosuke tanaka

something tells me ryu would definitely be more attentive than yuu , but he's still a total simp for shimizu

the moment you stop coming to practice , oh he notices right away

i imagine it going the same way as noya — him just talking everyone’s ears off about kiyoko’s a goddess , that she deserves all the best things in the world . . . all while you’re right there next to him

it’s a stab in the heart , to put it lightly ; you can only take so much before it just downright hurts

you’ve tried to talk to tanaka about it — he’ll brush you off with a “ hey babe ! ” with a quick kiss to the forehead / cheek before running off to practice again

so naturally , you felt defeated , and could only defend yourself — your heart — by not going to practice anymore , as well as just avoiding him as a whole

oh boy , did tanaka feel like an absolute failure of a boyfriend

“ y/n was here at school today . . . why didn’t they show up for practice ? they’re usually here , helping set up the net before standing next to kiyoko ”

tsukishima will probably be the one to retort back to him — you are his senpai , and he noticed how dejected you were , the more ryuunosuke ignored you for the team manager

“ oh , y/n decided not to show up today . someone decided they were gonna be a better boyfriend , and not fawn and drool over someone else like a dweeb . ” tsukishima was a jerk , yes , but he hated that tanaka was just so blatantly ignorant to you ; you didn’t deserve that at all and he knew that

it was an awkward silence , the third years didn’t know if they should berate him or comfort him of his realization , the second years were feeling awkward AF ( especially yuu ) for not telling him sooner , and the rest of the first years weren’t exactly very well-versed in the romance department so they had absolutely no advice for the wing spiker

even ukai was confused that you weren’t there as he walked in “ where’s y/n ? they said they’d help me with — ”

a bunch of people giving him the “ NO NO NO NO NO ” signal as he finally lays eyes on ryu , keishin understanding that something must’ve happened

tanaka was not doing well that practice , too side tracked and too upset with himself to focus properly

it came to the point where daichi had to pull him aside , and give him a stern talking to

“ listen here , tanaka . i know you now understand how stupid you were in being so overly obsessive over kiyoko with y/n always standing right there , and simply , you are the one who needs to make things right with them . you should wait until tomorrow though , so you have time with them . they’re not the type of person to hate so easily , especially if it’s you . have this be a valuable lesson , and i hope you remember how important of a person y/n is , to us , and to you . ”

tanaka had a whole epiphany with daichi’s speech — damn right , you were his . so why did he need to simp over kiyoko , when he had an amazing s.o. already by his side ?

with the team’s permission , tanaka requested to miss practice the next day — he promised he’d make up for it the following day , he just wanted to spend more time with you and make up for what he did

it wasn’t easy for him , coming to grips with his own foolishness as he approached you after class

“ y/n . . . i want to take you somewhere after school , if that’s fine ? ”

though you were hesitant in responding , you didn’t have the nerve to look away , nor run . “ but ryu , don’t you have practice today ? ”

he smiled sheepishly and shrugged , “ i got permission from the others to skip it today , i just have to work even harder to make up for it . ” taking you by the hand , he pulled you closer to him “ besides , nothing is more important to me than treating my beloved s.o. to something special , especially after how poorly i treated you for the past few days ”

“we have to win no matter what”

“y/n, it’s just capture the flag. we’re not fighting gaea”

“bitch are u in or not”

the entire dining hall is buzzing with excitement

nothing makes a demigod’s day like a capture the flag announcement 😌

chiron suddenly grabs the megaphone again and calls out “this time however there’s a little twist,” he chuckles as everybody goes silent

you raise an eyebrow

“you’ll be in teams of course. everybody has to play. there’s twenty cabins, so there will be ten teams of two cabins each. i’ll pair you guys up myself. each pair gets a flag–so there’s ten flags in total. the game will be won by the pair who manages to collect all flags and brings them back to their base before anyone has the chance to steal their own flag.”

the demigods burst into intense chatter and discussion once more

you turn your head back to your siblings and tilt your head in slight confusion

you’ve never played capture the flag in teams before

“anyone but apollo. i’m literally begging. sam, pray to athena right now”

“y/n RELAX”

“i think if we’re partners with apollo’s cabin i’ll actually jump into tartarus”

“what? percy and annabeth survived” 🙄

chiron pulls out a scroll and calls out the pairings one by one

poseidon and demeter, hades and ares (good luck to them), so on and so forth

your heart keeps racing . athena’s name has not been called out yet

and just like that your worst fear comes true

“athena cabin with apollo cabin. the game will commence in thirty minutes, which is how much time you have to prepare. good luck and stay safe!”

“this is the worst day of my entire life”

you’re sitting there, head in your hands, dreading this already when some of the apollo kids swagger over to your guys’ table

donghyuck is in front of them as he scoffs after seeing your dreadful state

“why the sad face, y/n?”

you lift your head up to see him hovering over your seat and roll your eyes

you get up and your siblings follow

you’re just gonna have to make do. you don’t have time to complain

the thing is

you’ve only lost capture the flag once 👎🏼

a few summers ago the apollo cabin defeated the entire camp leaving everybody speechless

it’s true they didn’t defeat JUST you but somehow you thought it was personal

you had the PERFECT record 😕

zero losses . only wins

but bc of the apollo kids your cabin’s record was tarnished

which is sorta why you started hating them (esp donghyuck their leader) so much

donghyuck caught on immediately and made it a point to compete just as hard as u

so yea. that’s how you became rivals

he knows how much ur gonna hate working with him but u don’t really have a choice now do u :/

so he knows exactly why u have a sad face

but this is donghyuck we’re talking about

just bc yall r “rivals” doesn’t mean he’s not gonna tease u 😂😂😂

“oh c’mon i think it’ll be fun! if we combine our skills, we definitely have a hundred percent chance of winning”

you cross your arms and glance at your siblings who just shrug in agreement

you sigh loudly

“don’t even think about fucking this is up, donghyuck. and just so we’re clear, i’m in charge”

he laughs, “yup! got it”

so you start talking strategy

you only have 30 minutes so you need to make the best of it

you divide the two cabins into pairs so that an athena and an apollo kid will be paired together and in charge of smth diff

you have plenty of people on your team – 5 in athena’s cabin and 5 in apollo’s cabin

some will handle weapons and safety gear, some will handle mapping out the playing area which was basically the entirety of the woods, some will be setting up traps near your team’s flag to prevent others from coming close

30 minutes quickly pass and after dividing the work and planning your strategy with donghyuck and friends you turn your attention back to chiron who has his megaphone in hand

everyone’s told to gather outside the dining hall at the open field before the game commences

you, donghyuck, and your teammates briefly talk strategy once more . just to make sure everybody knows what they’re supposed to do

“let the game begin!” chiron blows a loud whistle and the demigods scramble out of the field, going to their designated flag locations

your spot is near a little creek, but the forest around your flag is quite dense so u figure it’s relatively hard to locate

it’s not that late so the afternoon sun makes your skin glisten with sweat

“damn, can you tell your dad to chill tf out for a while,” you tell donghyuck jokingly

he just rolls his eyes but on the inside he’s kinda glad you’re being casual with him rather than 😡😡😡😡😡 like u normally are

u don’t know what it is about him today but u swear he’s acting different around u

he wasn’t… as annoying while discussing strategy ????

he actually ?????? listened ?????? to what u had to say 🤔🤔🤔🤔

he didn’t argue, he didn’t even throw around witty burns like he usually does w/o hesitation

mark was confused at first tho cuz everybody and their mom knows about your guys’ rivalry so why tf would hyuck have a crush on someone he considers his rival

mark decides not to get ahead of himself bc hey!!! maybe he doesn’t have a crush, maybe he just thinks ur a good leader

the flag

OK SO ur team’s flag is yellow ! :D

it’s like the colour of sunflowers

you and donghyuck r in charge of guarding the flag while ur team members scout around for the other flags

easy peasy

you and donghyuck are at your base now, weapons drawn just in case

the flag is hung on a poll couple feet taller than you

you’re dressed in ur usual training clothes – a pair of washed out shorts, a very old orange camp half-blood shirt; your sword’s sheath hanging from one of the belt loops of your shorts

donghyuck’s dressed similarly – a pair of blue ripped jeans, the same orange camp shirt tucked into them, but he has a purple flannel on, which he takes off and ties around his waist

“it’s so freaking hot,” he says, mentally agreeing with the comment u made about apollo earlier

“tell me about it”

there’s a silence that follows, the only sound heard is the subtle flow of the creek water

you’re thankful for the silence

it’s easier to keep an ear open for opponents on their way to steal your flag

just as you think about it, an ares and a hades kid approach your base

they’re on the other side of the creek, less than ten to fifteen feet away

“hi y/n,” the hades kid you’re kind of close to says

you shoot him a fake smile before holding your sword in front of you

donghyuck pulls out an arrow from his quiver and nocks it in his bow, aiming for the two demigods in front of you

the creek isn’t that deep, so the two demigods cross it with ease

they have their weapons drawn; they’re now a couple of feet away from you and more importantly the flag

no words are said as donghyuck lets his arrow fly and knock the hades’ kid sword out of his hands

he didn’t use an arrow with a sharp tip, you note

the hades’ kid stumbles backwards, imbalanced after he gets unarmed

you stand your ground as the ares’ kid scrambles forward, attacking you with her sword

your blades clash defiantly

you continue to spar with all your might

from the corner of your eye you see that the hades’ kid, sword back in hand, is battling donghyuck on your left

the flag is right behind you and donghyuck; you can’t let the two demigods get near it

you and the ares kid are still battling each other, putting all your strength into making sure she surrenders

but u should know better

ares and athena kids have many similarities like their love for winning, their confidence in battle, etc.

it’s like looking in a mirror

you don’t have anything against this particular ares kid, though

“c’mon, y/n, give up already”

that REALLY makes your blood boil

you never give up, no matter what

with one final blow of your sword, you knock her sword out of her hands, making her think she distracted you with her words

she goes flying back, half her body landing in the creek water

her sword lies in between you and her, but you doubt she’ll have the courage to fight again

the hades kid sees this and quickly scrambles away from hyuck, picking up the ares kid’s sword and giving her a hand up

“this is why i hate you and your siblings–your huge ego always gets in the way,” you hear the hades kid grumble to his partner as they run away from you, shame written all over their defeat

hyuck laughs and wipes sweat from his forehead

you can’t help but laugh either

you love it here at 🧡 camp half-blood 🧡

a few moments pass as your teammates emerge from the dense woods, each pair with a different colour flag held between them

you smile in victory

you quickly bring down your flag from its pole and give it to hyuck

“me? it was your plan…”

“yeah, but i couldn’t have done it without you, hyuck”

he almost passes out at your choice of nickname

back at the main hall, chiron announces your team as the winner, and that the prize yall being excused from doing chores all week long!!!!

it’s not much, but hey, at least you and hyuck ended up working together and winning the game, right?

later, hyuck pulls you aside from your cabin mates, and walks you to the lakeside

you two sit at the deck, side by side, watching the water doing nothing in particular

you watch as hyuck swings his feet lightly, his toes barely touching the water

“y/n, do you hate me?” donghyuck asks out of the blue

you’re like 😳 what

now that he asks you that . like straight up . it makes u think

do u REALLY hate him

or do u just hate losing to him

“why would i hate you?” you question back

“i don’t know? i guess because of our, um, rivalry thing i thought you can’t stand me”

you play with the beads of your camp necklace

“i don’t hate you, donghyuck. i just hate losing. i guess it’s the athena in me,” you laugh at how lame you sound

“i hate losing too, but i don’t hate you, in case you’re wondering.”

he takes a deep breath

“i know we started going against one another ‘cause of that one time my cabin won capture the flag, but i don’t want things to stay this way,” he pushes his hair back

“i guess what i’m saying is… i like working with you.” he pauses

“yeah,” he says, as if more convinced now, “and i would really like to get to know you better,” he clears his throat, very clearly embarrassed

you laugh at his flustered state

“stop laughing at me,” he stretches the last syllable as he lightly shoves you with his shoulder

you’re trying even harder to not laugh now, but for his sake, you hold it in

“that’s probably the cutest thing you’ve ever said”

he crosses his arms, “i’m always cute”

you’re like. THE NERVE?????? 😒😒😒

“how ‘bout we go slow? i mean, we just became un-enemies, we’re gonna need to be friends first, right?” you poke his shoulder

“you make a good point”

“i’m literally athena’s child, but okay”

“shut up!”

a year has passed and u and hyuck r basically bffs, attached at the hip, and everybody except mark is surprised as fuck

welp 🤭 he’s at that point where everything u do makes his heart flutter

u have no clue abt his feelings for u and he has no clue abt ur feelings for him either

exactly a year after the iconic capture the flag game, ur both seated at the deck by the lakeside, side by side, again

“THAT WAS ONE TIME”

both of you burst into fits of laughter

after calming down, he shoves your shoulder lightly with his shoulder, like he always does (only to u tho)

“no, seriously, i need to tell you something”

“what’s up?”

“i,” he pauses, clears his throat, “like you. a lot–i have for a while now.”

you swear your heart stops beating and your brain explodes

HE? LIKES? U?????????

he continues, “i don’t know if you like me back, but i’ve been wanting to tell you this for so long–guess i didn’t have the courage until recently,” he lets out an airy laugh

you’re looking at him in the eyes now; a subtle shimmer of the afternoon sun sparkling in his eyes

“hyuck, i like you too. how could i possibly not?” you chuckle at his shocked expression

he goes :O

he’s genuinely speechless when you lean forward and press your lips ever so softly onto his

you literally feel him freeze, which worries you for a second, but your worry is washed away when he slowly kisses you back

you melt right then and there

he takes your hand in his, interlocking fingers, as you pull away, a faint pink blush painting both your cheeks

“wow”

“really, y/n? that’s all you have to say? what happened to being wisdom’s child, huh?”

“donghyuck, i SWEAR to ALL THE GODS–!”

your sentence is cut off when he presses his lips onto yours again, you smile into the kiss which causes him to smile with you

he kisses you again and again, and then again, until you’re both a giggling mess

“let’s stay like this forever, yeah? what do you say?” he says, bringing his lips to your forehead, lingering there for a moment before pulling back and looking at you

you look at your intertwined hands, and then back up at him, “i’d like that”

hypothetically, if I were to write a fix-it/rewrite au fic, (thinking of starting at s5 but debating starting earlier) what are some storylines you’d take out/change, characters you’d save/kill, and specifically changes to sam’s character/arcs you’d like bc i need ideas

ok. ok. I'm gonna try to not go completely off the fucking rails while I write this up but I gotchu (also these r all just my own hot n spicy takes so like. pick what u like, it's all goodie goodie)

• no time passing differently in hell. literally four months is ~Enough!~ a year is enougghh!!!!!! like I get that they wanted to make hell this horrible unreachable thing but u can still like... get that across without having it be this unfathomable chunk of time out of a persons life. like sam was down there with TWO very pissed off angel's for 180 years??? how can he still speak english??? how does dean remember ANYTHING about his old life when mentally more than half of it was spent being endlessly tortured until he finally cracked??? its just.... Too Much...

• ON that note, I feel like later on they never rlly had sam and dean bond over the fact that like... they are genuinely the ONLY two people on earth who have survived actual hell. I mean we got that one off line from dean at some point but??

• no chuck as god. just a greasy greasy rat man getting insane stories projected into his brain. and on the topic of that.... I dont like the reflection of the real life fanbase in the spn universe??? they're pulp fiction novels, it should be all like 50 year old + ladies who picked them up at the local bargain bin, not b*cky r*sen

• I like... WANNA say smth abt s4..... bc I think the way that they handled things were a little out of character BUT I also think that was lind of the point??? like the angels and demons were manipulating them to say/do things they would normally never say/do to eachother to drive a big enough wedge between then that they would eventually say yes to being the vessels. like it hurts to watch sooo much but it did drive the plot forward in a very particular way that probably couldnt have happened otherwise. that being said, when the levee breaks makes me sad, and I dont want to see sam crying for his dead mother alone in a basement! cest la vie.

• also no fancy tech. no iphone 76z or whatever the fuck. sam has an ipod 1. the wheel is so stuck he can barely press play anymore. remember when he literally just tore off the top casing off his laptop and threw it away? more of that.

• no nice clothes. NO nice clothes we fuckin hate that. everything sam and dean own was purchased pre 1995 and dean is an expert at removing blood stains and sewing up jackets. dean will walk into a laundromat with a tide pen and just start goin for it like that scene in deadpool.

• tbh.... I feel like the issues in later seasons are really this massive horrible domino effect. like I could say heres how to fix s7-10 but the fact is if shit hadnt gone down lile it had in s7 s10 would be a different story entirely.

• s6: soulless sam was funney but did that really go anywhere? no. tbh I dont remember what happened w cas and I'm just not going to look it up. it's just not in the cards for tonight. dean w lisa.... ehh.... I've discussed this at wayy too much length w mushroom and we both agreed that dean would probably keep hunting to keep his mind off things and to try and honor sams sacrifice. I guess theres an argument to be made for the fact that it kind of was Sam's dying wish that dean just go fin her and live a normal life but... idk. purgatory was. . indeed a Concept..... that could have maybe gone somewhere if it didnt rapidly spiral into....

• s7!!! I mean. jesus christ. I know some people like this one but jesus christ. the way they literally couldnt commit to having sam have genuine mental health problems after centuries in hell or to just magically wipe them away..... bobby dying halfway thru.... charlie was a bright spot I suppose, but her intro is not my fave episode w her.... idk what the fuck happened w cas, I guess he was god. the leviathan designs were kinda neat but like oh my fucking god it wasnt worth it.

• s8: uh. rough start. idk why the turn tables so suddenly and dean's like "why didnt u look for me >:((" bc??? yall agreed not to???? at the VERY least they couldve had sam been like "I legitimately had no reason to think u werent dead and in heaven and tha wouldve been a little rude of me to pull u out of that." but we went for ~drama~ to make it spicy I guess. ouygh. bunkers there!!! that was cool!!! MoL is a cool concept!!! altho... it doesn kinda contradict the whole sam and dean are nobodies thing... idk. trials of hell was like... cool in theory but bad in practice unless they were planning on ending the show for realskies. and they did not.

• s9: uhh... hated gadreel! hated that shit! wish they had spun that whole storyline to be more "hey sam I noticed u were s*icidal should we maybe address that??" or even like.... okay, so! new sdra2 chapter 3 au! essentially - iroha still drinks from her cup of whatever, bc i can imagine by the third island, she wouldn't still b getting coffee at breakfast automatically. So whatever it is, she drinks it, and as a result, is hit with the sleeping pills.

this means that come the trial, iroha is the only one without a alibi who could've conceivably done it, so everyone thinks she's the culprit, except for one character who knows her well enough to know she couldn't kill someone, especially that brutally - her fellow child of utsuro, nikei. he just. looks at her, and she's in tears, saying that she didn't do it, and that they need to believe her, and nikei just knows that if she really did it? she wouldn't be responding like this.

so he sighs, and goes “hey uh, you guys? as a journalist, i should probably give any and all important information to you all if it'll help, and i don't wanna die because we voted wrong, so... it's definitely not iroha” and when everyone is all “??? nikei wtf??” he talks abt how iroha would be angry, accusing people of hating her for daring to think she's the culprit, etc etc. he also manages to find some holes in the theory + maybe some protag nikei time? bc we deserve more than just “maybe protag nikei in the omake” but i digress.

and to end it all, he talks abt where setsuka would've been/what she would've been up to. which means everyone's all suspicious abt why he and suka were teaming up, and how he knew iroha wouldn't react like this. from then on, he can't really see a way out, so he just confirms for everyone that yeah, he and iroha are the final two voids.

i'll think abt it more later when i am not sleepy, but! this is obviously gonna affect the game,, a lot. people aren't gonna trust nikei in chapter 4, mikado will probably be working on his own, and since rule 17 doesn't exist in chapter 3, nikei won't get executed for outing himself and iroha as voids. u guys know i'm a bit of a sucker for like. violent + angry iroha (which i've gone into before but i would b happy to talk abt now) so maybe in chapter 4 we have a suicide again for whatever reason, maybe iroha is once again everyone's main suspect, and when it's proven that she isn't the culprit (so post trial) someone tries to apologize for suspecting her? and she gets angy and says that they wouldn't suspect her if they didn't know she was a void, so she goes over to yell at nikei, and maybe like. kicks or hits him?

so everyone is all “haha funny babey is throwing a tantrum/big scary boy got hit by a girl, serves him right” bc. *stares at the translations* yeah. and so it's all played as a joke until nikei goes "iroha what the fuck have u done?” and they're all “shut up nikei u just can't handle responsibility for ur actions” until mikado reminds them that uh. that's a rule violation, and iroha needs to be executed now.

which means we get iroha killed off, so we can see how mr yomiuri “ill put up with my utsuro-given control being ripped away from me, but the second u genuinely kill one of my friends/force the other two to continue a path that'll lead to all but one of us dying at best, that's it” nikei dealing with being the sole child of utsuro left, which would b so nice bc we don't see that a lot from him.

♡ daughter of edith byun and christopher jeong, two major players in broadway (and later on the film industry), she was practically famous in the industry before she was even born. it was without a doubt that she was anticipated to be nothing short of talented and successful once she popped out of the womb! imagine legendary dance couple keone and mari madrid’s child but if they both had a reputation akin to idina menzel or lea salonga. that’s basically lia.

♡ with this, her parents unfortunately succumbed to public pressure and wanted to ensure that their daughter would meet these expectations. to fall short would be the greatest misfortune on her reputation, and they simply would not have that. was it the healthiest mindset to have raising their first and only child? lmao no, but it’s the mindset that came with the fame they had. eyes would be on her the moment she came into the world, so she had to be everything the public wanted her to be.

♡ a few months before lia was scheduled to be born, her father was cast in the us tour of miss saigon (pretend there was one in 1998), and it overlapped with the due date! he was supposed to be performing at the pantages for a few weeks in that general timeframe of when her mom could be going into labor, so they took a risk and just… moved to los angeles because he wasn’t going to miss the birth of his child! so ever since she was born she resided in the hollywood area!

♡ she was homeschooled for a majority of her childhood, but ur a Big Fool if u thought it was by her parents! they were incredibly busy with their own careers so she had a nanny and a homeschool teacher! and to be Quite Honest her nanny was more of a mother to her than miss edith could ever be! to lia, her parents were more like a dream, a fantasy, some sort of ethereal beings — untouchable. [cue parental longing]

♡ despite how much the media loved to talk about amelia and her parents, she didn't actually get to see them all that often! they loved her, there's no doubt about it, but they didn't exactly know to express it... despite being acclaimed performers SGKSDJGHDS so! basically in lia's mind, succeeding meant getting love from her parents because they always seemed to pay the most attention to her when she was doing something impressive — they loved to show her off to their colleagues like some sort of dog who can do tricks. lia ate up this "love", though, because there's nothing that beats the glimmer in their eyes when they watch her perform.

♡ lia took private lessons for everything ranging from acting, voice, and dance! fun fact: she’s classically trained in several dance styles, such as contemporary, jazz, ballet, tap, and hip hop! she was basically set to follow her parents’ footsteps with all of this training. she played several child/teen roles in musicals thanks to her family, and it was an almost effortless kickstart to her career.

♡ when she was high school aged, lia was admitted into la county school of the arts, but she wasn’t there for long. despite growing up being taught how to handle lingering paparazzi and answer questions interviewers sent her way, she was never quite taught how to handle the Hell that is high school. she wasn’t accepted well into the social climate and was frequently bullied and judged. they didn’t believe that she worked to be there, she was only there because of her parents. they didn’t actually know anything about her, but they made these assumptions that eventually led to her pulling out of school. she had been excited to finally see what it’d be like to make friends of her own — friends that weren’t just fed to her because of who her parents were. she didn’t know that same fact would make it all the more difficult.

♡ she's a theatre kid through and through, and that's all i have to say about that! lia grew up adoring the theatre, not only watching the shows her parents were casted in but almost every single one she could become an audience to! it was to no surprise when the public found her in minor and supporting roles as a child, and it was pretty much expected for her to become one of the next big names in broadway — she was anticipated to make the Big Move to new york once she got her footing in the industry!

♡ as time progressed, she continued to pursue theatre, slowly taking on more mature roles. every now and then she would be given television/film offers, but it was more of a side gig at the time. theatre was truly what she was passionate about. even though it was a profession forced on her, it was no lie that she actually enjoyed it.

♡ she began to develop her own fame outside of her parents around the time she was seventeen/eighteen, with a supporting role in an independent film that garnered pretty notable success. around this time, her parents invested in a publicist/agent just for her, a relative of edith who was also involved in the industry. it's true when they say it's bad to mix personal affairs with business because things began to take a bit of a turn for miss lia!

♡ her pr team was really big on transforming her the Big Name everyone expected her to be, all the while creating an identity completely separate from her family where she can thrive. and that’s exactly what they did. they created an identity.

♡ she had a love/hate relationship with being associated with her parents. on one hand, it was a burden having to constantly live with the expectation of being just as successful as them, but on the other, it fueled her fantasies of being the dream family she had always wanted them to be.

♡ they stressed the importance of whom she associated with, they slowly transitioned her out of theatre and immersed her completely into the film industry, lining her up for roles that would eventually become quite memorable. they took who lia was and restructured her as they saw fit, and lia went along with all of this because they constantly reassured her that this was what was best for her career. she didn't want to go against family, for to ruin any connections with her parents would be a step closer to losing them completely, so she played along in this role made just for her.

♡ her brain eventually became fine tuned to see relationships as “how can this benefit me?” rather than actual companionship which Sucks bc she totally wants friendship — she’s always craved it — but in the back of her mind there’s always this lil checkbox where she has to get something from this which is Not Healthy but she doesn’t know what to do about it because she’s in too deep to change anything

♡ she’s become so detached from her individuality and become the rising starlet her team shaped her into. she hasn’t been in a musical production in a long time, so it’s as if they ripped a major part of her identity away from her. but i guess that was the plan all along. i don’t wanna say that her mom's cousin has some lingering resentment toward her due something along the lines of always living in her shadow… but her mom's cousin has some lingering resentment toward her mom. it’s just cleverly disguised because lia is technically thriving when you look at it from the outside. inside, she yearns for her past.

♡ in the past few years, she’s been conditioned to want the world. she thinks she is owed it, but this sentiment is also fueled by her longing. she has this hunger for success that’s highkey kinda unhealthy! she isn’t even capable of discussing these things with her parents because they’re all busy all the time! her team would tell her to say yes to projects, pr stuff including false articles later debunked just for the publicity, whatever works! she’s been forced into this addiction for attention but it’s pretty much a result of her channeling the negative energy toward her career… to help her career? but in a way that’s detrimental to her own health. her sleep schedule? fucked up! she’s ruining herself from the inside out and she doesn’t want to admit it!

♡ her sentiment toward her public identity is akin to lottie person of the snotgirl comic! who she is interpreted as on social media isn’t the whole truth. she posts as if she’s under careful watch because, well, she is. anything her team didn't like simply didn't cut it and was deleted almost immediately followed by a sharp scolding. "image is everything" is one of the many sentences ingrained into her mind. an effortless kind of everyday, that's what she was supposed to be. idk how to explain it well but u know those instagrams where it looks super casual but is probably super planned? yes? idk in my head she has an instagram feed like hyulari or pameluft where it looks rly normal but it's rly pretty

♡ i'm trying to, like, put it into words what her persona is perceived as, but it's something along the lines of a person you think you know but you really don't. you see her posts, you see who she's with, where she's having coffee, but who is lia, really?

♡ clearly, this entire situation can get extremely overwhelming! the melatonin she takes to help control her sleeping habits also gifts her with the side effect of irritability, so there have been times when she “slipped up” and Snapped! her fans are quick to defend her, however, claiming she’s tired and needs rest, or place blame on the individuals who dare disrespect her privacy and personal space.

♡ scandals are also something she isn’t immune to. she frequents club and party settings often, and rumors often circulate about her activities, but it's easy to shift blame on bad influences. her image isn't exactly squeaky clean, but hey, as her team likes to say, "total prudes don't get attention"

♡ people who work with lia either love her or hate her, there's really no in between. she's friendly or stuck-up. some believe she's ungrateful, maybe they're onto something. she doesn't cause trouble on sets, but people love to make assumptions about this girl whose identity they can't seem to crack. but they'll be damned if they don't see her come in every morning with a smile on her face.

♡ if it wasn't clear, she despises the identity she’s forced into! it feels like a role she has to play almost 24/7, and she’d easily give it all up if it didn’t mean losing everything good that came from it. she missed the girl she used to be, the girl anyone could easily approach to talk about their day. she doesn’t know amelia anymore. she hasn’t been amelia for a long time, only lia.

♡ she learned recently that the contract with her team is set for a renewal soon, which prompted a crisis within lia. to terminate the contract would mean freedom, but at what cost? spicy, stay tuned.

♡ lia and her relationship with her own identity has definitely affected her personality and how she portrays herself even when she is at her most comfortable

♡ my base inspiration that Started It All for lia came from me watching a stephanie soo vlog KSDLHGDSG so yea she's like this likable, kinda loud and blunt personality but that comes more as a surprise to people who get to know her because she's been molded into having a more suppressed type of character — friendly, but never too much

♡ for the sake of her sanity, i'm gonna say that she still holds on to her personality in fear of becoming too absorbed by her public, consumable image, but there are times when she confuses the two. she can slip up and say something a bit too blunt in an interview or find herself holding back with her close friends. she's essentially become a blend of her true nature and her public image where it's almost the same thing

♡ incredibly, incredibly insecure! lia does not have a hold on her own identity, so even the smallest things will make her question everything! she constantly wonders if there’s a party happening that she’s not invited to, if people like her, if people are gossiping about her. so many aspects of her current identity have been conditioned to be close enough to genuine that she actually doesn’t know what’s real anymore.

♡ she can be a little bit manipulative if it comes down to her career. she doesn’t really mean it but she can’t help it at this point!

♡ if she’s friends with someone, even if it’s for some symbiosis-type relationship, she will play into that role, she will act as if it’s real. even if she doesn’t believe it, she wants to believe it because she also is unsure if she’s capable of real feelings??! she thinks she’s devoid of emotion but she just … doesn’t think about it. like, she doesn’t want to admit to herself that she cares about people bc she knows the Ugly side of her brain will hyper-analyze the relationship and find ways to sabotage it for herself to the point where she can’t enjoy it anymore — so i guess it's safest for her to think that this really isn't her! coping mechanisms let's roll out!

♡ she’s definitely had her fair share of significant others in the past, but they’ve been mixed into a bag of a bunch of pr relationships (she's had so many) so she doesn’t know if she’s capable of actually loving someone. it! all! seems! fake! but she definitely craves affection and will try to find it wherever she can.

♡ tldr she's actually a nice gal, outgoing, caring, but she can't help but think that she's a robot because she thinks too much about how people see her

orochimaru. look. i like white florals. i grew up with upper middle class white women. i fucking love white florals. this isn’t deep. the spike in the lavender, cassis and lemongrass should blend in a lovely counternote, even as i question the patchouli. i believe this son of a bitch smells amazing.

now you’re asking, besides why, where are the rest of team seven and i am so sorry. so sorry to tell u this. i fucking hate fruity candles and am borderline at war with gourmands.

i love this little orange dude but -when i die and go to the killing fields to face all my enemies, real and imagined, my fifth great war will be against tropical scented candles and body washes. i hate when citruses are balanced with sweet peach! i loathe the inclusion of acidic pineapple to lift a vanilla base! when i close my eyes years of being tormented by the fruity floral celebrity scents of my youth chase me through raspberry scented fields! now you’re thinking, but sazz! sasuke’s is fruity too! yes, but i am a hypocrite who would slit my own grandfathers throat for a well balanced tea scent. dead serious. i’d have to get into necromancy too, but that's a different matter.

kakashi’s is nice actually, as the 12 other ppl keeping it in their cart tell me, but here’s the rub: is you get into scent and perfume you learn to fear a few things. whatever black opium flanker is currently circulating. the comment section of your fave perfume on fragrantica. and blind buying anything with strong jasmine. jasmine is indolic (technically animalic but ehhhh) and smells overwhelming unless the balance is fucking perfect. it smells like sex and death and food, somewhat literally given that it shares scent dna with animal sweat. one of my fave florals is lush’s lust but when i (rarely) wear it i put one spray on a elbow and another at the back of my neck. i usually wear anywhere from five to fifteen sprays regularly.

the ozone inclusion is really clever actually. jasmine as a note can handle synthetic notes far better than most flowers but i just can’t say hey, smell this for a minimum of twenty hours.

sakura’s is also lovely. roses instead of ‘sakura blossom’ is again, smart. i’m not going to get into a paragraph about the more watery(?) florals but they don’t project well in candles. i just wouldn't recommend a rose candle without knowing more about it purely because rose scents rely entirely on the quality of the oil and without knowing the base it’s too much of a mixed bag.

AMA Transcript: bouquet garni

Next up, @skadventuretime, @guacamoletrash and @jamesfalt (Souly on Discord) stopped by to chat about their Resbang, bouquet garni! Here’s some of what went down:

Q: Madi, how did you come up with everyone's characters, like Harvar being a gaming streamer and Tsu and Liz being farmers etc. etc. because I thought those were all really unique and interesting!

madi: Ahaha let's see, I started planning this back last... May? and talking with the beta crew, as one does. And naturally marsh [ @marshofsleep ] , enabler that she is, just put it out there.

madi: And I was just playing a bunch of overwatch at the time and thought he'd be a good gamer nerd, and also I had decided to make this Extra self-indulgent, so I was like “my city now”. I basically poured all of my friend feels into [Harvar] and Anya in particular. The past couple years have been rougher for me, but I've had some really spectacular friends, and I decided Maka and Soul needed them, too.

Q: The part with the sword and stuff, I just…

madi: OH THAT ahahahaha. Okay yeah that was end of Resbang crunch time and me being extra 'fuck it.'

madi: That was what the team thought about that.

Q: Artist-chans, what programs do you use and how does your arting process go? And how is guac so good at playlisting??

Souly: I use paint tool SAI :0 I might still have some of my progress pics, lemme look.

guac: Lol. I don't think I'm super good at it but I do enjoy music a lot and like to make playlists so maybe that's it!

Souly: Yeah here we go. Mid lining.

I did it a lil differently than I normally do. I normally line everything and then do flats but I was actually super behind bc of life stuff so I just started doing flats per character after their lines were done. This is a sample of what the layers look like:

madi: Man how do u keep track of ur layers? Or is it like, a sixth sense?

Souly: I go off of the little layer previews and hope the layer has what I'm looking for.

madi: LOL that sounds like me.

Souly: I also like... tend to set up layers for characters a specific way so I can normally find those?

guac: BRUH THAT'S SO MANY LAYERS.

Q: Did you have a favorite character to write? 8)

madi: I just love writing Star being balls to the walls ridiculous. The saxophone thing came about because I saw this video and was like oh my god it's Black Star in the flesh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMyqasy2Lco . But I also really liked writing Maka being sort of the one with issues, too.

Q: Which character in your fic did you most identify with? And was it purposeful or accidental?

madi: Iiiiiiii'd have to say I identified with [Maka] the most this fic, for once. Usually it's soul, but I ended up pouring a lot of myself into her, and it was both purposeful and accidental how it all worked out.

Q: I’m surprised, because there were a lot of things I noticed about Soul that I know are you-things!

madi: Yeah!!! I definitely can't help that with him, they both got a lot of me.

Q: I know you said this fic was super personal and self-indulgent so was it generally pretty easy to write because of that, or did you have trouble?

madi: Hmmmm yeah I definitely had some trouble. About 20k in, I sort of lost the emotional thread of it, and whined a lot to Bones [ @adulterclavis ] about what I could do to fix it, and it turned out that I just needed to talk to someone about it to find where I wanted to go again, and then it got easier. I still struggled for sure not having a traditional Big Antagonist plotline thing, it was more personal and then Maka's mom… Bones let me cry in her inbox about writing.

Q: What brought about your characterization of Mama Albarn (who i still hate btw >: ((( )?

madi: You are not the only one...

guac: I'm always ready to fight her.

madi: Okay so, basically Mama Albarn came about just from how I used to (and still sometimes do) talk to myself. It's that internalized idea you always have to be perfect, and if you aren't given everything you've been given and have, then you're weak and a fuckup and how dare you not be the best? DEFINITELY a toxic mindset, and Bad. And this fic was sort of exorcising that, a little. This was an external abusive deal, but you can absolutely develop abusive thought patterns towards yourself, and you can also free yourself from them, like Maka was ultimately able to.

Q: Was there a scene in particular you really enjoyed?

madi: I heckin’ loved the butt lamp scene. It honestly kept me going, knowing I'd be able to write that monstrosity. And also drunk Kid, who marsh aptly named Five Drink Amy. AND THEN GUAC skl;dfkld. So there was this, right, and then guac

madi: And we all could not stop laughing.

Q: What was the hardest part to write?

madi: I got stuck at the end of chapter 3, and I ultimately added another section on to it to make it work, but I think deciding how I wanted to transition from her debauched night out into a Soul POV chapter given what I wanted each person to sort of be faced with was probably the hardest thing for me. This whole deal was largely driven by me groping in the dark at what felt right.

Q: PS I loved the debauched night out. And Patty's drinks.

madi: I loved patty in this!! Bones wanted to marry her, so I know it Worked Out. She was another fun one to write, as were her drinks ahaha.

Q: What was your favorite thing about this Resbang in particular?

madi: Oh jeez, hm. I think my favorite thing was doing a better job fleshing out the side characters in Harv and Anya and Kid and Star. That was something I regret not doing better in my older work, so I'm happy I got to try my hand at giving people other than Soul/Maka some personality.

guac: They became such a cute little chosen family.

Q: Why a food-themed story specifically? What about that appealed to you? (For everyone!)

madi: (Apeeled).

Souly: I fucking love SoMa. [And] the cooking aspect really drew me in... idk why but I've always had a thing for those kinds of things with anime I'm into?

guac: My current relationship started with them teaching me how to cook real food cause I used to eat like a garbage can, so I was like ‘welp this is gonna be hella cute, count me in.’

madi: Omg, I didn't know that, that's ADORABLE.

guac: Shhhhh. I don't talk about my feelings very much. But yeah. I was like ‘a SoMa AU about my life!!!’

Souly: Honestly yeah same, I feel like I also like... connected with Maka about being poor and just buying shit to eat.

madi: Let's see, I had a prompt sitting in my inbox FOREVER that was like 'I’m obsessed with a food blogger who writes about cheap ways to be gourmet in your 20s and I flirt with them over comments but they never post pictures of their face and ALSO there’s a really cute grocery bagger at the store down the street who teases me and always asks to join me for dinner and I definitely want to say yes AU' that I was initially gonna go with, and originally it was a little closer to this deal. My first blush ideas for this sort of had the drama in not knowing who was whom, and the big reveal being the climax, or something like Maka thinking Soul was taken because she thought he was involved with the comment girl and then that whole drama. But then I thought that that sorta thing had been done before, and I wanted this to be less about the drama of the reveal and more about the process of them growing closer, I guess. And I also looooooove cooking and baking, so that definitely bled through.

Q: I thought it was a neat shake up how you didn’t make the reveal the crux of the whole thing.

madi: Ahahaha yeah, I definitely thought about it, but ultimately wanted this to be less 'gasp, it's YOU!' because the reader knows, and if I wanted to make the reader invested, I'd have to keep them apart and do the kinda drama I wasn't feeling for this fic. The insta bit came about because I spend some time looking at food pics before I go to sleep, and that provided a lot of insp for that section. Half of my degree is in nutrition, so I like to see the recipes people come up with, and also roll my eyes at some of the bougie stuff, because insta is definitely a Platform for that, depending on where you end up haha. Also like, I definitely took some things I've experienced flat out and added them in, like Harv shoving Maka electrolyte packets. Last year when I was deep in the sad pit, my diet was terrible, and I knew it, but I wasn't doing much about it. And then one day I was talking to Bones and my leg muscle kept spasming, and she was like dude when was the last time you've gotten minerals and I was like .....oh. So she sent me a link for those packets to hold me over on days I wasn’t getting them from my diet ahaha. Bones is also where some of Kid came from, and bits of Anya.

Q: Where did you get your recipes? I want a cookbook based on this fic p...please.

Q: Did you feel like your writing has changed at all during writing this?

madi: Yeah, for sure! I thought that this year I got better at characterizing people, adding some personality to them that was a little more nuanced than I'd done before. I think I absorbed some of Bones's longer sentence style, which I personally tend to like even though I am still getting a handle on it, and I think I got better at describing things in general. Next step is being better with plot and tightening up the language a little more >:) Most of the changes, I think, were sentence style and how I handled dialogue, which is usually harder for me.

Q: Artists: did you learn any new techniques that you plan to practice or improve on any you've been trying to learn?

Souly: Oh yeah, I learned doing flats as I go with lines actually speeds up the process slightly... I practiced a different lighting technique that I never did end up going with but I kinda figured out what I need to do to make it work. It sadly just didn't work with how I set up this pic.

madi: Oooo nice, linework is Intimidating but you made it look easy.

guac: I am just glad to force myself to make stuff. Glad to be here. Thought my drawing of bodies got better (thanks Black Star).

madi: Y'all don't understand the sound I made when I saw guac drew the apron.

madi: >;) well, I have a secret project that I thought of last year that I am not yet sure will be a Resbang or a chaptered dealio, so I want to pick at that. Then I have a chaptered Star vs the Forces of Evil fic I need to update, and I owe Pip [ @paperypiper ] like two or three Noragami fluff pieces, and SILLY’S BDAY SMUT. Which will proabbly be like a whole year late but whatever I’m sorry, I will try to make it extra spicy.

Souly: I'm signing up for a few zines! I'm currently waiting for them to open apps but I'm looking at an Enstars zine, FMA tarot project, and some YOI zines. I was also recently in the Soul Eater reversal zine that just closed preorders the other day so I'm waiting to be able to post my piece :0

guac: I'm arting for the BNHA big bang and mostly consumed by school. Who knows what will happen next! There's a little pop punk lyrics + anime project I'm working on so maybe I'll show it to the world someday soon. We will see.

madi: OH YEAH I’m writing for that bang too! AND GUAC GOT ME AS AN ARTIST. It's the ultimate resonance.

lmao dont read this im just venting :(

this is just smthn personal for a second bc im so fucking heartbroken right now and i think things r gonna get better but i just,,, need a place to vent for a while.

it really fucking sucks that people can fall out of love yknow ?? and yeah i know that its happened to me regarding my friends/crushes but its always been bc they majorly fucked up and did something terrible enough to turn all my love into disgust or indifference but even then, i still think about them and hope theyre doing well from time to time. but... ive never just... been so enamored with someone and given them my everything... only for them to suddenly mean nothing to me for no real reason. and i just cant understand how that can happen to anyone bc when you love someone thats ur person yknow ? like yeah ur gonna be so annoyed and angry and tired of them at times and srsly need a break or maybe even need to take a permanent break if things are getting toxic or unhealthy or arent working ,, but even then it still hurts bc you still love that person right ?

what i cant understand is how two people can be so perfect for each other and their souls can be so connected and so in love,, and yeah sure the situation might suck and they might be fighting a lil more often,, but they still love each other and have something really special that both of them are working rlly hard for .... but then for that to just... mean nothing to one of them. its different than just prioritizing ur own health and realizing things arent working,,, its like... they just decided they arent excited by their partner and they dont find them beautiful anymore and they dont love their smile or their laugh and theyd rather do anything else than talk to them.... they just fell out of love.

and their partner is left feeling like they did something or everything wrong. at the beginning, their partner warned them that things werent gonna be easy bc of situations on both ends and then things just got harder with the state of the world and with growing stress on each person. their partner warned them that they sometimes get in a rlly bad headspace for months at a time and are prone to hurting themself. their partner warned them it would require a lot of work on both ends to make things work.... but they promised that none of that was a problem and it was something that they could work through as a team because they loved each other and they could get through anything as long as they’re by each others sides. but then that just.... stopped being true

im just.. so mad right now... like yeah i know my mental issues were already too much and now im having physical medical issues and it fucking sucks but just... was that it ? was that what made you stop loving me ? did you realize that im just too sick and too much for your perfect little self to handle ? is it bc you grew tired of me like you grow tired of eventually everything you love and obsess over ?? was i nothing more than an obsession to just grow out of ?? no different than your favorite musicals from last year or your favorite tv show once it stopped airing ? were you maybe jealous of my improving situation while parts of yours remain bleak ? maybe it was just bc you know we have different priorities... mine being you and yours being anything but me... i feel like an absolute piece of shit and cant help but believe that i mean nothing to you anymore and that all the times you belittled me and talked down to me and told me things are all my fault out of anger were true :( i guess i somehow ruined this whole thing too...

i know we were becoming bad for each other and that our needs werent being met and we would leave each other eventually ... but you didnt have to fall out of love with me .... you couldve at least pretended you still love me instead of telling me you dont... things werent good but i thought we still loved each other i thought we still had that andistillloveyouiloveyousomuchandiknowialwayswill.. so how is it just so easy for people to leave me ??

also lmao i cant stop fucking crying which just makes my excruciating stomach pain even worse like damn i already can barely walk and now i can barely breathe haha ... i really hate this ... and im sorry to anyone that had to read this but doing this on my lil private account disconnected from anyone i know rlly helps. i might just go for a nap or smthn now bc i dont wanna end up doing anything stupid that i regret later.
