Poetry Class Final Compilation: "Snapper"

Under a dock,

a turtle. No bigger than a pet

in an aquarium tank.

I swim up behind it,

charmed by its leisurely paddle,

admiring the swing of its tail,

the sturdy thrust of the tiny limbs,

and the present swivel of its critical head as

ponderously it turns to face me,

opening its scissor maw

and driving me out of its lake.

Here is a little comic I made about some thoughts I’ve been having recently. I don’t ID as transmasc, and I have noticed that since I’m nonbinary and AFAB, some people in queer circles (online and irl) label me as transmasc! This has increased since I started T. Much love to my transmasc siblings, but I don’t identify with that term, and it misgenders me.

I figured if there’s not a lot of acknowledgement or discussion about non-transmasc and non-transfem people who physically transition, I can make some myself :)

we need to STOP assuming songs are autobiographical. i would say it's the taylorswiftification of popular music but also like even taylor swift is like hey these songs are fictional narratives that aren't about me and then her entire fanbase still acts like they're her personal experience. man. treat songwriting like creative writing and dont make assumptions. this is what mitski is always talking about, devaluing women's art in particular by saying it's like a diary rather than an intentional craft. and art that is vulnerable and personal and like a diary is of course valuable but you have no way of knowing if that's the case if the artist doesnt share and frankly as a music listener its none of your business if it's "true" or not

Poetry Class Final Compilation: "To My Readers"

There’s a tentacle monster on my ceiling.

He’s a knitted lime ball with wiggling appendages

and one large brown eye, half-lidded.

I could call him Weary,

christening him after his attitude.

He looks into my cluttered room,

the disheveled piles categorically sorted,

the bed unmade and covered in crumbs,

and passes judgment in silence.

If I turn him around

his bored gaze will roll down Tremont St

where the light from the Loews Theatre

casts red undulations over my ceiling.

Did you know they turn the sign off

at 2:14 in the morning?

I don’t know when they turn it on.

Cool headlights file down Tremont

between hollow orange streetlights,

and, if it’s a Friday, cars will fill the three lanes,

people will fill the sidewalk,

and I will lie awake and listen to them shout.

Good Times - Bad Timeswe have our good days and we have our bad days. oon bad days i feel down, tied into a wheelchair, no longer completely in charge of my body... in good days things change... the wheelchair is still there when i go outdoors, but it no longer bothers me... i meet friends, we talk... on bad days i hole up on my flat... being taken care of lovingly by my husband and family.. they are there for me.. in Good Times and in Bad Times. LOVE YOU ALL !
