I wanna say something and all I ask is that you read the whole thing before burning me at the stake.

There are always horrible things happening. There are always ppl who are suffering and dying. There are always corrupt politicians. There are always human rights violations. There are always tragedies. There is always misinformation and exploitation. War is always looming on the horizon or busting in the back gate. The world is always fucked up.

That fact does not mean that the lives affected matter any less than our own. It does not mean that we don't do what we can to help. It does mean that we cannot afford to put our lives on hold while a horrible thing consumes us.

I'm sure that, if your parent/sibling/partner/best friend had a medical emergency, you would gladly do whatever you needed to do to be there. I'm sure that you would sacrifice sleep, skip meals, call in to work, and be by their side until they were stable. You can afford to do that when those emergencies are infrequent and relatively brief.

You cannot do that with the world's emergencies. They are not infrequent. They are not relatively brief. You have to sleep, eat and shower. You have to pay your bills. You have to survive.

Daily life goes on.

It feels unjust. Of course it does. How can you possibly go about the mundane like nothing's going on? You Don't. You go about the mundane like there are horrible things happening. You make the adjustments you can sustain without sacrificing your well-being. You make drastic changes for as long as you can, when you simply can't take it anymore, and then you step back, take a breath, and go grocery shopping. You have to. If you don't, you won't survive the horrible thing.

No one who is going thru a horrible thing wants you to self-destruct. There's so much good you can do over the course of your life if you maintain that life. Adding your name to the list of casualties will prevent all of that good from happening. You have to survive.

And that includes the things that seem optional, bc those things aren't actually optional at all. You need to laugh. You need to watch movies and love your pets and go for walks. You need food that tastes good and clothes that make you feel confident. You need that show you'll regret not seeing. You need to get takeout and take naps. You need to have the weight lifted frequently, so you can heal the parts of you that get worn.

If you aren't living as well as you can, while making adjustments you can afford to make, you will not survive.

Please survive.

Do you guys ever think about Rana? How she was only in Minecraft for about a month, and still to this day is remembered fondly in the hearts of many. How one of the very first documented fanarts for the game featured her and (Indev) Steve together. How she is such an integral part of the history of the game, and yet is still seldomly known. How she's been so wiped away by official sources, the only way we still remember her existence is through internet archival and word of mouth. How she was the frog mob in Minecraft many, many years before frogs were truly implemented. That she carried apples and roses with her, back when roses sprouted one by one out of the ground. That you would have to slay her to even know such a thing. There was once a brief point in time where we could play with her character model. She did not move the way she was supposed to, as her animations never properly displayed, but she moved anyway. She had maxed out stats that meant nothing and could not properly equip anything, but that was okay. We loved her anyway. Do you think if Steve could talk, he would tell us about his first friend in green? Of the very short lived adventures they had together in a newly forming world? god it’s soooo difficult to put into words but like. while lestat’s love and violence and emotional impulsivity could be stifling at times and even dangerous, it was his love and insecurity that was the problem. he didn’t want to keep louis on display, he wanted to love him and be loved by him. of course, problems arose because lestat is both a terrible communicator and has severe uncontrolled abandonment issues and rage and unresolved trauma, but his actions came from a place of deep, deep fear of being alone and wanting someone to love/someone to love him. he wanted to travel with louis, he loved louis for his hobbies, he loved sharing his interests with him and opening up when he could. he wanted him and louis to experience life, the world—together. armand is not like this. he’s obsessed and “in love” with louis the same way you become enamored with a rare bird, a priceless one-of-a-kind piece of art. he’s a thing to keep, to take care of, look but don’t touch, etc. like all of the art in his penthouse. he controls louis’ safety, his eating schedule, his time outside the house (which at this point seems nonexistent). he keeps the books out of reach. he keeps an artificial tree and light and pebbles to placate his deeply depressed lover. he doesn’t want to travel the world with louis, he doesn’t want louis to be out on his own, and he frames it all under the guise of protecting him. louis is reserved and depressed in a way that is so opposed to his depression in the rue royale era. whereas before he was incensed with guilt and anger and fear and grief and sadness, now he seems like an empty shell. his deep well of emotion, even negative emotion, has turned to apathy. and obviously this could very well be caused by claudia’s death and lestat’s disappearance, but armand very obviously is not trying to help louis. in this state, louis is at both his most vulnerable and his most likely to go along with armand’s whims, to sink further and further into that apathy because then his trauma won’t hurt so much. and it just plays right into armand’s hands…..
