A little shocked I have to say this but please don't feed my work, my writing or my art, to any AI for generative purposes or otherwise. Generative AI is theft, and innocent intentions are not an excuse. I'm not going to explain why generative AI is bad, many artists and writers have already done that much more eloquently than I ever could. Do your own research. I work professionally in art and have been deeply personally impacted by AI, and seeing AI versions of my characters is deeply upsetting.

Hey guys, quick PSA. Please stop sending asks/comments/reblogging my work with messages about how much you want to kill my characters. It makes me uncomfortable, even as a joke, and is so prevalent now its really starting to get to me! If you don't like a character, please don't engage with content about them. Anyone who breaks this boundary from now on is going to get a block </3

Can you please just tell us what is wrong with ai and why, I can't find anything from actual industry artists ect online through Google just tech bro type articles. All the tech articles are saying it's a good thing, and every pro I follow refuses to explain how or why it's bad. How am I supposed to know something if nobody will teach me and I can't find it myself
I'll start by saying that the reason pro artists are refusing to answer questions about this is because they are tired. Like, I dont know if anyone actually understands just how exhausting it is to have to justify over and over again why the tech companies that are stealing your work and actively seeking to destroy your craft are 'bad, actually'.
I originally wrote a very longform reply to this ask, but in classic tumblr style the whole thing got eaten, so. I do not have the spoons to rewrite all that shit. Here are some of the sources I linked, I particularly recommend stable diffusion litigation for a thorough breakdown of exactly how generative tools work and why that is theft.

Dear 5+ asks I have had since last saturday which I wont be answering individually cause I don't want to put a target on your back:
Don't send me messages asking about GITM updates without reading my bajillion posts/ANs on the subject.
'not trying to be rude' - well you are being rude, actually, friend. receiving these messages doesnt make me feel good. In fact, it makes me feel very bad. If you spent half the effort it takes to write an ask actually reading the information I have already given people, rather than demanding a personalised answer, then we would all be a lot happier.
Another reminder, a bit louder for people in the back:
My chapters are now 12-15k words each for gitm, because of this I am now following a 3 weekly update schedule. I work full time and write for hours every evening. If that is not good enough for you, you can kindly fuck off.
peace & love, and all that

hi qwille!!! I got questions for u! you have lots of characters planned out, and that’s super cool! but how do u usually go about that process? like all your characters are very unique, and I wonder about the design process, as well as how you make their personality distinct! how do you make character dynamics/relationships? because all the scenes I’ve read so far make the characters feel really organic, and mesh really well together! (sorry for all the questions! I’m super curious ^w^)
Hiya! Here is an answer I wrote for this question on discord recently ^^
I will try answer this as thoroughly as possible!
There was a LOT of kill your darlings involved in making characters for gitm. Originally I had a very long list of character ideas that I cut down and down based on the kind of things and themes they would give me the opportunity to write about. I love long ensemble cast stories, thinking back to ones I particularly enjoyed and the ways those characters gelled together helped me a lot. The most important thing when selecting characters was making sure they would give me something interesting to write about! I was also very keen on ones that let me explore the fics main theme of Family from a different angle. I'm not sure how helpful this all is! But yeah, I try to be pretty strict with myself about what I include. The only reason I would include two characters who were very very similar would be to emphasize a difference/divergence between them later on. Characters have to justify themselves by bringing something unique to the table, even if that thing is just a 'very different outlook on life' to the rest of the cast. Over time a lot of those character ideas became more fleshed out in my brain, and characters that were cut from the original shortlist made their way back in. They still have to be able to narratively justify themselves in order to earn a channel in the discord though!
For the gitm guys, while I dont have a literal sheet I fill out I do make sure to answer a couple of basic character work questions: What lie do they believe about themselves/the world? How does it impact the way they interact with others? What central theme do they embody most? What do they want more than anything else? How do they feel about humans? Who are they at their best and who are they at their worst? I found that by answering these sort of questions it helped me discover more about them, which creates more questions- rinse and repeat. The more questions I answered the further away they would get from each other in terms of similarities. The thing that really helped with the gitm boys, especially because their origins are so similar, was leaning in to how different their experiences were post-fazco. They are different people because the world has made them that way. Messing around with foils has been useful too! Characters are no fun in a vacuum, it's how they interact with others that makes them interesting. I like to create ones that will bring out the best and the worst in each other. I think about opposites a lot and I really like narrative symmetry- what lessons can the characters learn from each other? I find that stuff super exciting to read so I really wanted to include it. Some examples of character foils in gitm: Fool & Noon, Sombra & Sunspot, Misuta & Sol
When it comes to finding character voice, I do a lot of test drabbles (a couple of them are on this server), which I use to just fuck around until I find something that feels right. For instance- Sol was very very easy to find the voice of, where as Misuta took weeks of rewrites. Sometimes things take time. Spending this time figuring out their voices at the start really helps fic consistence in the long run, I think. Because of all that prep, I don't really have to do anything to 'get into character' when writing their dialogue (it's fairly second nature now).
In regards to coming up with a character's arc, I look at them and their themes and ask 'what the fuck happened to you, dude?' and then 'how has that entrenched a faulty world view on you?' 'what could you be driven to do because of that world view/misunderstanding?' 'what would it take to fix this world view/misunderstanding?' (the last question is the most important one!). Then voila, you have a very loose framework of a (hopepunk) character arc.
In regards to the actual planning of the fic/character arcs, I have a very big miro board (pic attached) that I use for all this! Most of the major character beats are marked out separately to plot beats etc etc. There are still a bunch of bits that only reside in my brain, but I do try to add them to my plan as soon as they become any kind of concrete. All of the characters also have a background chapter (or rather, a series of chapters that form a short story) attached to their arc, that will recontextualise everything you have learned about them so far! I am so deeply looking forward to dropping these (I already have quite a lot written).
Tumblr media
I would say that- for your question on character relationships- the answer does come down to being really specific about what you include. Make sure characters are meaningfully different from eachother, give them goals and experiences that clash and then force them to live/work together in the same space. If you have put time into building your characters before that, then you just need to create opportunities for them to get into conflict and bring out the best/worst in eachother. I really do believe that characters are quite boring in a vacuum- which is why I put so much emphasis on including narrative foils ^^ Tyvm for the ask <3

You once said you plan to have 100+ chapters for GITM.
Do you have the story planned out from start to finish? Because my goodness that is a lot especially with the lengths they reach QwQ /pos
The story is gunna have to be long to fit all the characters in it, honestly! I have the majority of the story beats physically planned out, I know the majority what is going to happen and how the story will go. There are a lot of scenes I have planned in particular (that Im super looking forward to but have to wait soooo long to write!!). I even have a bunch of plans written up for the epilogue. There are still a number of questions about the fine details and the order of some of the events in the later acts though. To be honest I don't want to hardlock that stuff too much in case character actions force me to change stuff. The scaffolding of the story is all there though!
I imagine the whole thing is probably going to be pushing 1.5-2mil words- which is terrifying, but exciting. There is a long journey ahead when it comes to getting gitm done!

Hi Hello Haia Helô
Thought it was about time for a pinned post! My name is Qwille (they/them) I'm a Welsh artist & writer currently languishing in the DCA fandom.
Please visit the Ghost in the Machine master post for FAQs on the project before you send me an ask!
You can find my main fanfic work on my Ao3, my focus is currently on writing Ghost in the Machine, a long-form DCA post-fire fic with multiple DCA animatronics! I often post drabbles and crumbs from my current work (which are tagged #qwillewrites ). Any of my art that I post here will be tagged #qwilledraws. When it comes to fanart I am not super prolific! Art is my day-job so I don't do as much of it in my down-time as I used to (for that same reason I'm not currently open to commissions, though thank-you beautiful people for the interest ♡). Most of all I'm here to make friends and be silly, so feel free to interact! (I promise I don't bite) > Ko-FI >

Oh dear... it has become clear to me that the DCA fandom is starved for more AUs that will provide quality suit-wearing content. So I was wracking my little brain for a new AU that requires Sun and Moon being in proper formal clothes. I hope you are ready for..........
COURTROOM AU YN has found themselves in a tricky situation being investigated (framed) for a crime they didn't commit. Enter philanthropist defence attorneys Sun & Moon, who have taken their case. But UH OH their estranged brother Eclipse will be prosecuting the case against you, and he has a vicious reputation. See you in court Starshine ;)
((Art incoming. I promise. ))

hi! i saw that the Misutamoji server is 16+ and i was wondering if that’s applies for your other content.
I mean, the fic is rated M and that rating will be hard earned in terms of violence and the various themes we will cover. Misutamojis has an age restriction because we want to feel free to talk about that stuff and understandably most people are uncomfortable talking about that sort of thing with people who are in their early teens. I also don't want to moderate those interactions.
I ain't ya mum though, and nothing in the fic is explicit so I'm not gunna go around with a minors DNI cause I find that sort of thing a bit weird. My tumblr is SFW, I rarely post anything suggestive and when I do, I tag it as such. My content doesnt really vary too much. People should just curate their own space.

I caved and Misutamojis is now a GITM discord server. It has all the character refs, emotes and official stuff, but now also a space for people to post their own art and chat.

Hi hello! I love how different and distinctive your characters are, so wanted to ask if you got any tips/helpful resources for how to write characters without blending them into something similar? Thank you for your work!
Ahh thankyou very much :) There was a LOT of kill your darlings involved in making characters for gitm. Hello 👋🏻!!!
Your art and story are amazing!!! Truly beautiful!!! I can’t wait for more of both!!!
I’m happy that you update every two weeks!!! But at the same time it’s torture to wait!!!
I would like to write an original story with your DCA OCs in it would that be ok?
Also is it ok to write a story inspired by yours?
Your DCA characters are just so amazing that I would like to write about them.
I would write an author’s note stating that they belong to you and a link to your tumblr.
But if your not ok with it I would understand.
Hi! Thankyou so much, I'm really glad you are enjoying the story and the characters!
My feelings about people writing GITM related fic are two-fold:
On the one hand, I am OVER THE MOON that people feel inspired to write about the characters, I'm deeply flattered and happy and I would love to read peoples fic about my OCs. As for writing stories inspired by GITM: please go ahead! I originally started the idea because I desperately wanted to read something with a 'multiple-DCAs-forced-to-interact' concept, and couldn't find it! I would be very happy if this became something more people were doing. Obviously I'd appreciate being tagged in anything people create :)
On the other hand, there are only 3 chapters of GITM out! The boys are pretty complicated characters and I'd like people to have a better understanding of who they are in GITM canon before they get whisked away to be used in other plotlines. My preference would probably be that people wait until a few more Ghost in the Machine chapters are out first, but that is not a hard boundary for me. Speaking of which: my only hard boundary is that people don't write about lore that I have discussed in the discord or private chats before I get a chance to reveal it in fic. There are a number of moments I am deeply looking forward to writing and it would feel like a slap to have others try to do it first, honestly. Shortfics make me less nervous than longfics. NSFW is fine, please still tag/credit me if you are using the characters, I just wont reblog it on main.
If you are still unsure if I will be ok with something please just ask me first.
The further I get into GITM, the less nervous I will be about fanwork! It is still early days for the story and the characters, but all the same I am very happy people feel so inspired! tl;dr I am cool with transformative work of GITM and my OCs, just don't spoil or snipe the lore
