Best Soukoku Fanfics That Bring Immense Nostalgia!

Someone on YouTube asked for recommendations for Soukoku fics so how could I give up such an opportunity to share some of my all time favourites?! Some of them will make you cry. Some of them will make you smile. But most importantly, the immense wave of nostalgia you’ll feel after reading some of these fics are surreal! I swear, sometimes I wish I’d forget about these fics just so I could rediscover and read them all over again! All these amazing works are on AO3 so please check them out and support the authors! I’ll continue to update this each time I find a new SKK fanfic!

Arahabaki lives in Chuuya and they can interact and sometime Arahabaki can come out to talk to people. Arahabaki is surprisingly sweet and overprotective of Chuuya, quite like an older brother. (I absolutely adore Arahabaki and Chuuya’s dynamic in this fic!)

“Silly delusions” by Grinch1234

Arahabaki and Chuuya are one person and Arahabaki is a God stuck in a human’s body confused with how humanity works. He tries on many occasions to convince Dazai that he is a god to only one time in which Dazai actually believes him.

“I’ll always come for Chuuya” by anonymous

Dazai and Chuuya back in PM and Dazai tries to distance himself with Chuuya cuz of his feelings to the point Chuuya loses trust in him and thinks Dazai’s grown bored of him because of his new friend, Odasaku. (Such a shame we don’t know who the actual person one because this fic was so well written and such an emotional rollercoaster!)

“We Are Never Ever, Ever Getting Back Together (Right?)” by sabiEMr

ADA and PM do an exchange thing where Chuuya works at ADA for a while and Atsushi works at PM. Chuuya tried to get over his relationship with his ex Dazai but it’s not really ideal when you’re now stuck with your ex at his workplace.

Soukoku get paired together for a project and they hate each other… except when they start to fall for each other. Well that was unexpected!

Roommates/College AU. Dazai’s a player and Chuuya gets stuck being his roommate and they absolutely despise each other with a burning passion. When Dazai accidentally performs a grave accident that angers his precious chibi husband and forces him out of their shared apartment and out onto the streets, he tries his hand at his backup operation of “How to Woo your husband in seven days” with seven articulate plans in hopes that it would finally convince Chuuya to invite him back home. Except each plan just seems to fail and give the redhead an even bigger blooming headache. Plan 7 was the last straw. Maybe Chuuya should finally invest in some long awaited (and deserved) divorce papers after such a hellish week of putting up with that stupid mackerel of a husband’s BS.

It was supposed to be a one night stand and nothing more. The last thing Dazai expected was to catch feelings for Chuuya. Much less hurt him so badly by saying the night they spent had meant nothing. Chuuya is just hoping to get through school without any strange encounters, and he doesn't know a word of Japanese. They collide (literally) and the situation devolves from there. They figure it out. Falling in love in Paris is a very romantic cliche, after all. Even if there's a language barrier between them.

No, but you know, Arahabaki doesn't need human food, but he is a god and he loves offerings.

Every time Dazai gives something to Chuya or buys him food, Chuya feels someone else's contentment inside him

Or Dazai sometimes drinks to Arahabaki during lunch or dinner (this really pisses Chuya off) and the god inside is like "heheheh people honor!" (never mind just my au where arahabaki shares consciousness with chuuya)

I dont particularly enjoy the trope of Arahabaki being a God whispering in Chuuya's head. It can be done well in an AU but its kinda not well done usually.

I however LOVE Chuuya having auditory hallucinations as corruption slowly takes a toll on his mind and the voices in his head get progressively worse. Till he subconciously names it Arahabaki cause he is beginning to spiral and the fear of loss of humanity or doubt in his own humanity begins to come back up.

so you guys remember the arahabaki daughter au i was cooking right?

so i ahve two things i wrote for it now and i might turn it into a legit fic so

“Let me go!” Baki shouts, struggling against the grip of Fukuzawa and Dazai, all at once. “Let me kill them all! Let me kill them all! Let me break all of the bones in their bodies! Let me go!” She shrieks, kicking and wailing. It’s not an easy job, trying to restrain an angry God.

“Baki,” Fukuzawa calmly says, “killing is not always the answer.”

“They nearly killed that child!” Baki screams, and it is only then that Dazai realizes that she is crying. Tears are flowing down her cheeks as she screams and shouts and wails.

“But Baki,” Kenji says, leaning on Yosano for support. “I’m okay. See? I’m right here! I didn’t die, and Yosano healed me right away.”

“Just because you have a doctor who can revive you does not mean that you are immortal, like me,” Baki snarls. “Do not throw your lives away so carelessly for me! I can survive anything. I am the concept of destruction itself.”

“But you’re our friend,” Kyouya says, staring at her, unblinking. “Why would we not risk ourselves for you?”

Baki goes still in Dazai’s hold. She sniffles.

“Just let me kill them already,” she says, but it holds no fight.

“No,” Dazai shakes his head with a smile. “Trust me, I’d let you. But that’s not going to do anything.”

“Fine. Have it your way.” And for the first time in her life, Baki spares a human.

"aren't you scared of being vulnerable, vessel?" baki asks, one night, while she is tucked underneath chuuya's chin, the two of them reading the same book. "with dazai." "sometimes," chuuya admits. "it's hard being open with another person." given our past, he does not say, but she knows. "but you love him, even though he left you." "i love him, even though he left me." "is this.. the unconditional love that you were talking about?" she shifts, looking off to the side. "yes. i don't think i could stop loving him, even if he left me again," her vessel says, and for the first time in her life, baki finds herself afraid. afraid of love. "humans are too complicated," she says instead, trying (in vain) to stomp her foot against the floor. "you love even though he might ditch you?" "yes, of course." they fall into silence for a good long while, simply reading, until baki speaks again. "you are horrifyingly human," she whispers. chuuya does not reply for a moment, and then says, "thank you."

God Atsushi rant.

I'm in my god Atsushi era and have a lot to say abt it.

Ok so duh we all know Arahabaki (Chuuya) is a god. So we know that 'gods' exist in the bsd world. But like Byakko IS a god, right? Right?? SO SO TECHNICALLY Atsushi could also have a god for an 'ability'. And we know nothing of Atsushi's life before the orphanage or his parents. Sooooo I kind of have free reign with this theory. And maybe (like other AU's which I may or may not have stolen this base idea from) god's pick their 'vessel' or their human body and tend to co-exist in it once they find the one they want. Atsushi could have been picked by Byakko but with Chuuya, Arahabaki was more forced into his body with the experiment (if that makes sense) instead.

And I love the theories that Ara (Im putting this instead of Arahabaki now bcz its so bloody long) talks to Chuuya in his mind and is sentient as he is a whole 'other being'. So Byakko could also talk to Atsushi as an 'other being' but bcz of Atsushi's hatred towards both himself and his 'ability', she never did. But when Atsushi accepts his ability in DA Byakko is able to talk to Atsushi and explains all this to him (and more yada yada) but bcz Ara was FORCED into Chuuya's body, he just doesn't want to explain or talk to Chuuya out of hatred for the humans (N) who trapped him in Chuuya.

And I have so much more to say abt this HOWEVER I am making it into a fanfiction and would hate to spoil the plot (this isnt a spoiler bcz it's literally the BASE of the whole story). Also this is a Atsushi get's chosen for the ADA member who goes to the PM au!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea if I want to make the ship chuuatsu bcz I am a sucker for rarepairs and when ur a god time doesnt matter so 4 years isn't shit. But I loveeee sskk and kinda want that ship. But I don't want both bcz I want one of them to be besties, so if I do chuuatsu I want sskk to be besties but if I do sskk I want chuuatsu to be besties. But yeah I might put it in a wheel and decide or just see how the story goes.

Btw if u want to read the story my ao3 is 2waesabii2 (It's not out yet but I'm thinking of calling it something with the word 'god's' in it so we'll see abt the name.)

Chuuya didn’t cry when he woke up after Shirase stabbed him. Didn’t cry when he learned the Sheep had dissolved. Didn’t cry when Dazai left. He cried now like a child, relieved to know he wasn’t alone in this world. Byakko nudged his head against Chuuya’s cheek, a poor imitation of a tiger’s affectionate headbutt while he was in Atsushi’s body. But it was comforting anyway. Chuuya wrapped his arms over Byakko’s—Atsushi’s?- shoulders in a desperate attempt for a hug. The hug was returned awkwardly, a testament of how Byakko was unused to the human’s language of love. “I’ll take care of you.” He petted Chuuya’s hair. "You refused to learn anything before you became Chuuya and just ran wild, barely even sentient. And then, when you got a body, you were forced to learn and grow, but you had no memory of what it was like to be a god because you never bothered to be a person before this. So we're starting from square one." All of that chastising in almost one breath. Chuuya whimpered in shame, sounding more like a beast that he used to be than a human that he was now.

Part of Stray Gods AU, an extensive expanded lore AU focusing on the political ramifications of the existence of Ability Users if their powers were actually given by supernatural beings. Be it a blessing, a curse, or even inherited familiars. And Chuuya really is the god Arahabaki trapped in a human body.

Okay okay okay. This post is going to be mentioning so much murder and death and also a lil bit of existential horror and just plain old horror but yk. With the concept I’m about to speak into this world it’s bound to happen. It’s also crack taken seriously. So. High school au.

Tha basic facts:

Chuuya lives with Verlaine

The Flags and Chuuya are friends and have been for a year

Dazai got taken from Mori’s care when the old boss died so he’s in a foster home with atsushi rn. They live with the Izumi’s.

Oda’s with Fukuzawa. Ranpo and Yasano too.

The Ada are a detective group outside of school. It’s literally just made of high schoolers and middle schoolers. They are the best in Yokohama. The people think the police are a joke.

. The flags are a youth club that Pianoman managed to establish with the old principle. They do basically whatever they want with the promise of doing shit for the school when they graduate. The old fuck dies (murdered by Mori), and when said worlds worst high-school doctor takes over, he tries to disband the club after they couldn’t get Chuuya to start living on campus. Verlaine said no. Mori wants to make Verlaine , + Chuuya when he graduates, work for him.

The flags aren’t really sure what to do and Chuuya can’t move onto campus without permission and so. They decide to try and summon the spirit of the old principle to get him to tell Mori to leave them alone without him realising it was them. Chuuya says it’s a stupid idea. Albatross says it’ll be fine. What’s the worst that can happen?

Instead they manage to summon the ancient horror Arahabaki.

A lotttttt of psychedelic shit happens. Arahabaki wants at least one soul in exchange for the other’s freedom. Chuuya sacrifices himself and the rest of the flags are left reeling. Albatross yells at the Ancient horror god that there has to be something they can do to get their friend back.

Arahabaki says it wants 100 souls in exchange for Chuuya’s. In thirty days. The flags have to kill them all before delivering the bodies to Arahabaki as proof.

… what the fuck.

Arahabaki: this town is too peaceful. I want chaos. And souls. And blood.

So now. A group of 17-19 year olds have to try and kill 100 people in 30 days without getting caught. With an ancient horror haunting them with their currently dead friend’s body and voice. One of them has to tell Verlaine. And Adam. No one wants to tell Dazai. Exams are in exactly 36 days.

I call it How to Kill 100 people in 30 days. The title font looks like a romcom

Little theory that has been rotting in my brain for a while: when Dazai created all those AUs in the book , he didn't change one variable - Chuuya. Now idk whether this was intentional for a greater reason or whether because Dazai would want his dog to stay with him.

So the book can be counted more as a singularity in the BSD universe rather than an ability. This is because Dazai is able to touch it and write in it without nullifying it.

So how does this link to chuuya? Chuuya is also arahabaki - the god of destruction sealed in a human vessel. If a god is possible in the BSD universe, then there could be multiple gods. Another thing to note is that the book creates worlds - it can essentially be the god of creation sealed in an object. So we have two opposing forces : creation and destruction which balance each other out.

Now keeping this mind let's go back to the original question, Why didn't Dazai change Chuuya in every universe? My theory is that Chuuya can break away from the book's rules. He literally has an opposing force of an ability that can either destroy and collapse the world by his actions.

If he can't be tied to the book, WHY does he stay with Dazai in beast?

I think the beast AU is the one AU where Dazai didn't change any outcomes except for one or two, making it canon to the original timeline as possible. The beast AU is basically a mirror of the original universe.

Tainted Soul: a True Vessel/Demi-god Chuuya Au [x]

Step 2

-Due to how many times Chuuya has used Corruption, when manifested at the physical level Arahabaki is hard to differentiate from Chuuya. Even it itself can't tell where the God begins and the man ends.

- After the 8-10 minute mark the physical changes are undeniable. Twisted horns, long pointed ears, sharp fang canines that don't fit in the mouth or jaw anymore, canide like legs, 'wings', the skin breaking apart, claws, 8-ft tall and the physical form beginning to break down.

-His body is healing as fast as it breaks down

- Ring like structures surround him and gravity is fluctuating within their radius, almost like in a protective barrier

-The body is off-balance and actively changing, he's hyper aggressive because he is vulnerable to attack

-By this point, Chuuya is slowly becoming capable of speech, but is very disoriented

royalty!skk au concept :)

I'm reading a royalty au right now and re-watched “House of the Dragon”, so as punishment from the gods or something, I keep thinking about a royalty!skk au with dragon rider!Chuuya who is bonded to two (2) dragons.

One is called Tainted (or Sorrow it could go either way tbh). He is a deep, deep burgundy color and definitely on the larger side, but not that massive. Fast, nimble and very loyal to Chuuya.

The other one is an old, old she-dragon that is MASSIVE (Vhagar or Balerion sized, from House of the Dragon, pls look them up, Vhagar is done so well she’s my beloved) and respectively, that's Arahabaki. She's an ancient creature that mostly rests in a cave nearby, but will wreck absolute havoc as per canon. She's black, her scales glow and shine red in the sunlight.

Chuuya as a little lad wandered off and found her napping in the forest or something, went up to this creature of war and started babbling to it and she was like ‘I guess I have a new rider now’, thus becoming Chuuya's first bond. His parents, upon learning that and being absolutely flabergasted went ‘yeah Fuck That’, and tried to bond him with another one. (it worked because he's build different and he deserves good things <3)

Imagining Dazai riding Tainted for the first time and he's clinging onto Chuuya like ‘please please slow down I’m gonna fuckign die’ and Chuuya just laughs at him and dives straight down to mess with Dazai (read: flirt)

How people find out about Arahabaki (because I imagine a weapon like that would be hidden) is ,,,, I imagine that Chuuya and Tainted get shot down during some conflict. In the deafening silence after they hit the ground, in the distance, this deafening, agitated roar from a creature that you can't even imagine the size of, echoes across the field. A shadow flies overhead, clouds parting as Arahabaki flaps her massive wings, covering the sun as she lands above the fallen dragon and its rider, protective and deadly, daring ANYONE to even attempt to take a step towards them.

Also I'm imagining Golden Demon as a magnificent, beautiful and deadly dragon with glistering pearl colored wings and golden tinted scales (kinda like how Sunfire is described in the books as a Sight To Behold tm)
