Best Wedding Photographer Yarra Vallery Is Beneficial Always?
Trading wedding pledges is maybe the most dazzling and momentous decision you'll make in your life. You need the ability to be basically just about as thrilling and remarkable as could be possible. Thusly, it is major that you select everything with a considerable interest. Conceivably, the focal part is the photographic craftsman. It is the Wedding Photographer Yarra Vallery that helps you with memorializing this extraordinary day in your life.
Computerized cameras are any place these days, yet only one out of every odd individual is a photographic craftsman. Is enrolling a specialist wedding photographer an adroit idea? Considering everything, you are the one specifically who can settle upon that answer. In any case, here are a couple of reasons why we accept that you should leave your wedding photography just to a specialist Wedding Photographer Yarra Vallery.
1. Experience
A specialist Dandenong Ranges Wedding Photographer has done it previously; they've shot different occasions and have been introduced to various subjects and conditions. They have a critical extent of association to draw from and normally make generous extra minutes if anybody glimmers or has a messed up articulation. They know the baffling nuances of presenting and can make subjects look typical in any setting. They know when the woman of great importance will pull that joyful smile everywhere and how to sneak an infusion of the woman and fortunate man's mothers looking at the couples with tears in their eyes. They understand how to have ideal possibilities even in irksome lighting.
2. Obligation
A legitimate arrangement limits specialists, so they're ensured to appear on your gigantic day, paying little notice to what the climate is. They can't disappear on you like a buddy. By virtue of emergencies, they're certain to have someone who's in like way a specialist to come as their substitution.
3. Remarkable Results
Specialists photograph weddings as a calling, so you can be guaranteed that they'll attempt to give you the best outcomes to make you satisfied and underwrite them to others.
4. Certification
Specialists have seen the most recognizably horrendous and are prepared for it. They have a support camera, batteries, and memory cards with them, so if something happens with the stuff they're at present using, they won't miss taking photos of any critical piece of your wedding. Understanding this can help you with feeling ensured and charged in the interim since you realize you have uncommon photographs to anticipate.
 The Right Skill Set
A specialist photographer will most likely have gone through extensive stretches of planning at an establishment with some photography mastery. The photographer will contemplate the right kind of stuff to bring and have the alternative to change the camera's settings without going through the manual on occasion. Little nuances like fitting transparency, conceal speed, and ISO expect a huge part that numerous individuals don't ponder.
Central focuses
No master photographic craftsman will go to your large day tumultuous and without the right stuff. Dandenong Ranges Wedding Photographer will have the data and the right gear. They will in like manner outline the land to prepare for a variety of conditions, for instance, having a potential second or third camera successfully outfitted with different central focuses.

28 Things That Happen At Literally Every Hen Party
So you’ve been given the daunting title of “maid of honour” – in my eyes this title is more along the lines of “maid of organizing everything including being solely responsible for the success or failure of my best friends hens night!” but who cares about titles! It is your duty to ensure this night is one you’re guests and more importantly, your hen, will always remember (or forget completely).
Hen’s nights might seem like an awful lot of work – and they are – but there are many things you lovely ladies can do to make life easier. Topless Waiters, Male strippers Melbourne, Cocktail Parties, I have organized thousands of hens nights across Australia – starting as a topless waiter myself and working up to the manager/owner of my own hens night company I have seen all sides of the Hens Night process. Below is an accumulation of hens night information that I think will benefit you, from conception to delivery!
Tumblr media
This isn’t going to be like other articles that put out basic things, like “save the date” as a key pointer on a hens night (duh?), I’ll be leaving out the common sense stuff and going straight for the nitty gritty of the best hens night Melbourne ideas!
Starting with Hens night Melbourne and now located all across Australia this guide will draw from my experience in the hens night industry, however I will make it very broad and include hens night ideas for people from all around the world. Happy Reading!
Preliminary Easy Stuff;
Figure out who’s doing the guest list – you or the hen
Get a feel for what the hen wants – if you know her well (I would hope you do?) you might not even need to ask her (surprises are better) – brainstorm some hens night ideas
Determine a location you want your hens to be (I’m talking geographical here not specific), would you like topless waiters Melbourne? Male Strippers Brisbane? A mobile bar in Sydney?
Those things should be easy to do, once you have a rough idea of what country you want to have your hens night in and generally what you will be doing – you can continue down the guide!
Tumblr media
What Do You Want Out Of Your Hens? Hens Night Ideas!
This may well be the hardest section of the entire hens night planning process – what is it that you actually want to do? Now this isn’t a scary option because there isn’t enough to go off, it’s actually the simple Netflix problem – there is too much to choose from.
I would start by asking yourself the question of guests – because in the end you have to find that right balance between what the hen would like and what the guests would be into.
Ask yourself the following validating questions before brainstorming hens night ideas!
How much age variety is there at this hens, will any oldies be attending who will be less inclined to participate in a raunchy hens? Or the opposite, nervous youngsters who wouldn’t know how to relate?
Will your attending guests be of a conservative nature – i.e. will they be for or against having topless men / topless waiters walking around handing them drinks? What about a male strip show?
Are your guests big drinkers? Would they be satisfied with only a couple of cocktails, or do you want to go all out with a unlimited cocktail bar? (I know I would!)
How much do your guests make in a year? Would they be happy to put in $80 each for an awesome hens night? What about $100, $150?
Are your guests the adventurous type? Would they want to do a fun activity – or keep it a bit classier, such as a cocktail package?
How many people will be attending? This one is crucial, is it 8-9 people? 20? 40?
These are some great screening questions to ask your hen also, you probably won’t know everyone who the hen has invited personally so it’s important to gather this information before making any decisions.
youtube
Everybody is different, your hens may be the perfect bunch of ladies who all get along famously and who are all big party girls who love going out! In which case congratulations, your hens night will pretty much run itself! But majority of the time there is a big split within hens nights in terms of age/nature/family (especially as the numbers creep higher).
My solution to this is never be afraid to have a hens DAY, this could be something as simple as a daytime wine tour through your local area (mine would be the yarra valley), enjoying some casual drinks with all the ladies involved (including the prudes/oldies/unwanted family members/mother in law) and then dispersing after the event and heading to your hens NIGHT – where you can get as wild and crazy as you see fit, without feeling like you left out the other guests. Trust me; the oldies are going to thank you that they can get an early night anyway. High Teas are also a quality option, as well as day spas/manicures/massages and day cruises! Contacting the people you are unsure about and brainstorming a few Bachelor Party ideas is also an option!

27th May 2017
I slept like a Queen last night. It was wonderful. I woke up when Steve left for work because Dan slammed the door. Steve said goodbye and left around 0600. I fell back to sleep straight away until 1000/1100. Megan was still in bed too. We woke up and went downstairs to have breakfast. Sophie was in the kitchen with Mel so we sat with them. We sat chatting with a cup of tea and decided what we were going to do with our day. Sophie suggested the 3D art exhibition 'Art Vo' down by the dock lands. I though it was too expensive but then I had nothing else to do - it was $25 entry. Megs and I got ready and we all met at 1300. We got the tram to Docklands and then walked towards the Art Exhibition. We were in a shopping centre which had really good deals, it looked so cheap. We found the centre and queued up to get in. When we got in, a man stood there to show us what to do which was weird until we got started. The art exhibition has different rooms with different themes - all 3D pictures. You get into the picture and there is a spot which shows where the photographer stands. If they don't stand on the spot, the 3D doesn't work. We walked from room to room getting very excited. The drawings were unreal and the pictures were coming out brilliant! I tried my hardest to get out of as many photos as possible because I am no way photogenic. The girls started noticing that I was the photographer more than most, so shoved me into the photos. Sophie also shouted at me for putting myself down too much. She told me that there were far too many people in the world that was going to do it to me, so why should I do it to myself. Fair point. Some of the staff walked around offering to take photos so we managed to get a couple that included us four. There was an Australian theme, rainforest, major countries, Egyptian, fairytale and so on. It was huge. We didn't stop laughing. When we eventually come the end, we all said how we had such a brilliant day and it had only just started! I am so, so glad I went to the art exhibition, I need to stop being so tight. We went to a coffee shop to get a hot drink. The girls all ordered a massive slice of cake with theirs and I had my apple which I was more than happy with. We walked around the cheap clothes shops which was SO cheap. It was about $5 max for anything. The only problem was, their XL was a size 12 and that was the biggest they went too. We left after about half an hour of walking about. We got the tram to go to DFO - Designer Factory Outlet. This was in South Wharf which is just a further walk on from South Bank. I needed a cardigan for work because it's cold in the office. It'd be nice to wear something over my clothes when I'm just out and about too. The outlet was amazing! We were all so gutted we had no money to spend on stuff. Megan found some puma trainers in the sale so she treated herself to them as it's her birthday on Friday. She's not expecting anything from home as they haven't even asked her where she's living at the moment. Hopefully they do send her something. I hope they've asked Dan where she's staying. We left DFO at 1730 when it shut. We walked home through South Wharf, South Bank, over the Yarra river and into our hostel. The walk was amazing. There were bars and restaurants everywhere, people being wined and dined. Fairly lights on the trees, sky scrapers towering over us. Melbourne is amazing. We got back and Steve and Dan were fast asleep still in their work clothes. We woke them up to have dinner. They hadn't eaten yet either. We all ate and decided to go for a few drinks. Megs and I were so excited, we had a very little amount of our vodka. We got showered and ready whilst the boys waited. They still hadn't showered but Steve takes 10 minutes to get ready. They bought ciders and shared them. By 2100, we were all ready waiting for Dan. He took ages to get ready and we didn't end up leaving until 2200. We walked down to South Wharf which is now one of my favourite places. I love showing Steve places I've been without him so he can see, too. We went into Munich which is where our friend Kat works. It's a German bar. We had one beer there and Kat finished her shift when we were about to leave. Dan and Megan were having a bit of a tiff because Dan is addicted to his phone. He was on it the whole time we were out so Steve felt a bit out of place because he had nobody to talk too. I was trying my hardest though. We left Munich and went into Spice Bar. I think that's what it's called. It was opposite thankfully because the rain was pouring down. The barman offered Megan and I a sweet cocktail 2 for $30. Megan misheard and said 2 for $20, so he gave it to us for that. Either way, both were really cheap. He made us a baby pink cocktail that was delicious. I'm not sure what it was but you could only have one it was that sweet. I'm sure he put icing sugar on the top after too. We met Kat's work friends and chilled there until 0130. We were meant to be going to the casino at 0230 for the football but we were tired. Megan was upset with how Dan was so she just wanted to go to bed. It was still a good night. We got back to the hostel room and it was freezing. Megan grabbed me another duvet (which I now call dooner, thanks Australia). We went to bed around 0300.

Rone’s ‘Empire’ Eclipses All That Came Before
Rone’s ‘Empire’ Eclipses All That Came Before
Art
by Elle Murrell
Rone’s Empire has taken over Burnham Beeches in Melbourne’s east. Pictured here: The Study. Photo – Rone.
The Street artist has been working on the largely self-funded project for over 12-months. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
The 12 vast zones incorporate Rone’s Jane Doe murals, the muse for which is actress Lily Sullivan who came on-site early in the project’s development. Photo – Rone.
Part exhibition, part installation, part VR and AR experience, Empire combines art, vision, sound, light, botanical design and scent to take audiences on a hauntingly immersive multi-sensory journey. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
‘It’s almost like we’ve discovered a forgotten time capsule and cracked it open for the world to see,’ he says. Photo – Rone.
Interior stylist Carly Spooner of The Establishment Studios was back, after teaming up with Rone for Omega, and has proved integral to the sourcing of items, propping authenticity and the final film-set-like styling. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
The year-long project coincided with the birth of Rone’s first child. Photo – courtesy of Rone.

Inside Her Room. It was given the working title of Diana’s Room as it is rumoured Prince Charles and Lady Diana once stayed at Burnham Beeches in its luxury hotel heyday. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
The dedication to seasonality, tonality and historical accuracy is astounding across the vast rooms. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
The experience has been meticulously curated to evoke a distinct series of moods as audiences move from room to room. Photo – Rone.
‘Once I got inside and realised that I had free rein on an entire mansion my mind was blown with ideas of what could be possible. It was quite overwhelming,’ tells Rone. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
Fragments of inspiration came from Johnny Cash’s heart-wrenching Mark Romanek-directed film clip Hurt, (where he covers Nine Inch Nails), but Rone was careful not to dictate the narrative. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
‘I want people to walk in and feel like they can explore the possibilities of what might or might not have happened here,’ he explains. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
The project has now been supported by Visit Victoria and Yarra Ranges Tourism. Photo – Rone.
Built-in 1933 Burnham Beeches was the family home of wealthy industrialist Alfred Nicholas. It later served as a research facility, children’s hospital and luxury hotel until being shuttered in the late 1990s and purchased by current owners, The Vue Group in 2010. Photo – courtesy of Rone.
Rone doesn’t like to cut corners… unless he’s trying to make vintage Chesterfield armchairs appear submerged. ‘That wall is four-and-a-half metres, and that is three-and-a-half metres, and if we have a row of books every 30 centimetres, that’s eight rows,’ the Melbourne-based artist calculates, as we peer into The Study he is creating. Tyrone Wright’s precise project-manager demeanour comes as a bit of a surprise, but it really shouldn’t have. If you’re familiar with his art, it’s clear that the same meticulous, exacting detail applies to both his large-scale murals and the 40-something spreadsheets he’s been coordinating to bring Empire to life.
‘…that comes to 64. So I thought to myself, “OK, go find 64-metres of hardcover books that are the same height”. That’s where I started,’ reflects the artist. It seems an arduous task that someone so internationally-acclaimed might outsource. Nope. Scouring Gumtree and racking up miles around Melbourne, Rone pulled it off. Then he proceeded to paint one of his stunning Jane Doe artworks – this time in the image of actress/’girl-next-door’ beauty Lily Sullivan – on the library of said books, before flooding the entire room to create a captivating reflection. Inspired by a leaking, OH&S-liability ceiling and concept sketch from years ago, The Study is arguably the most ambitious room of the 12 spaces transformed throughout this neglected Art Moderne manor.
Following the wild success of his now-demolished The Omega Project, the artist was invited by past-collaborator Shannon Bennett of the Vue Group to ‘come and check out a place I’ve got up in the hills, maybe you should paint a wall there… it’s empty at the moment’. It was, in fact, the sprawling Burnham Beeches: a glamorous 1933-built home of wealthy industrialist Alfred Nicholas, which later became a research facility, children’s hospital and then a luxury hotel, but has been vacant for decades.
For all the exceptional location’s promise, this was a risky gig, especially as it was self-funded up until some support came through just a few weeks ago. ‘I’d taken a dedicated six-months off before our first baby came, and decided “let’s go for a drive up the hills and look at this place”. When then I saw it and I thought, “well, there goes the next year!”,’ Rone explains. ‘It was a very serious sit-down conversation with my wife as we didn’t know how our life would look after a baby. Yet, it was the most incredible opportunity I’d ever been offered..” could we make it work?” If we could pull it off and at least break even, It would just blow peoples’ minds, and that alone would be worth doing it for!’
On subsequent visits, potential collaborators were equally intrigued and quick to sign on. Interior stylist Carly Spooner of The Establishment Studios was back, after teaming up with Rone for Omega, and has proved integral to the sourcing of items, propping authenticity and the final film-set-like styling. After linking up over Instagram, Wona Bae and Charlie Lawler of Loose Leaf added their botanical sculptures, including an incredible twig-lined hallway, while composer Nick Batterham has scored the scenes, incorporating months of ambient audio recorded in the estate’s gardens. Further elevating this immersive experience, is the bespoke scent design by Kat Snowden and cinematic lighting by John McKissock, along with an area for before-and-after augmented and virtual reality experiences.
As well as bring together the exceptional team to realise his ambitious vision, Rone has done everything from sleuthing second-hand furniture across the city to collecting bundles of branches from around the property, and he’s even been pilfering from the onsite café’s coal ovens to dust the entire installation! If you can look past the transfixing details – epic murals upon aged wallpaper, trees growing through walls, a forgotten Champagne tower or that grand piano that was left outside to weather for weeks – the dedication to seasonality, tonality and historical accuracy is astounding across the vast rooms.
Rone encourages visitors to walk in and explore their own imagined possibilities of what may or may not have happened here. Yet, his own veiled narrative draws on aspects of Johnny Cash’s melancholic music video, Hurt (2002), and the project takes its name from the Trent Reznor lyrics delivered ever so harrowingly: ‘And you could have it all, My empire of dirt’. Standing in His Room, while Her Room is at the far end of the hallway, Rone explains, ‘already they have become separated, maybe he has lost her. I guess the whole concept of Empire is: “I’ll give it all up for you”. Having that realisation about what is really important… It’s not all this material wealth,’ he gestures. ‘You have the feeling that it has all been walked away from, that this grand stuff, without her, is nothing.’
Empire truly is something. Spine-tinglingly unforgettable, it shouldn’t be missed!
Empire by Rone March 6th to April 22nd  Burnham Beeches, Sherbrook Road Sherbrooke, Victoria Book for day and night sessions at R-o-n-e.com.
Limited-edition art photographs of Empire, taken by Rone, are available to view and purchase in an on-site gallery. Just like his meticulously documented The Omega Project, which has now toured internationally as a photography and virtual/augmented reality exhibition, he hopes Empire will continue to be experienced into the future and in alternate locations – stay tuned!

Wilson & Market’s Brasserie is Paul Wilson’s final puzzle piece. The Brasserie joins the the Luxe Bar and the Lifestyle bar that resides in Prahran Market. The trilogy is now complete. The British chef known for Latino food, has flown back to Aussie roots. There’s heavy emphasis on seasonality and the ol’ ‘ farm-to-table’ philosophy. The produce speaks for the Victorian land and sea. Expect fresh seafood, meats smoked in beastly contraptions and rotisserie.
Prahan Market location
I have a soft spot for Prahran Market. It’s miles away from the ‘ one dollar, one dollar’ screeches of Footscray market, the sticky floors and the 5pm bargains. Not that I don’t love Footscray Market – its the booming soul of the West. But I admit, I love wanky stuff. Truffle toasties, melted raclette on potatoes, squid ink pasta… I mean there’s a man that specialises in potatoes? Until now, food options existed in little stalls and trolleys. Wilson & Market is the first full-sized restaurant, to open outside of market hours. The 250 seater is a vast space, with a psychedelic bathroom, murals of tasteful women and a seafood bar that shines bright like a diamond.
The Food
Seasonality is a big deal at Wilson & Market. The menu celebrates, a diverse mix of evolving seasonal produce – from the South Coast oyster farms of Merimbula to Yarra Valley salmon. Our favourite wasn’t even seafood or meat, but the 28 hr sourdough, hot out of the oven, with a generous smear of seaweed butter. It combines the taste of the ocean with the silky embrace of butter. Just spread it directly on my tongue please.
28hr Soir Sourdough w/ Freshly churned Seaweed butter
South Coast Oysters Farm – Merimbula NSW
Smoked Petuna Ocean Trout w/ Devilled Egg
A quick tour of the kitchen by Paul Wilson, reveals an offset smoker, a seafood bar and a wood-fire oven. Malee Oak, Ironbar, hickory, apple and chest are used for aromatics, in slow-cooking and wood-grilling. Smoking has long been the territory of briskets and ribs. It’s a slow romance, that takes hours of foreplay. But don’t forget to invite the biodynamic veggies. Charcoal potatoes are blackened, smothered in a black sesame tahini. The flavour of charcoal completely dominates. Whilst, the wood-roasted pumpkin, is buttery and juicy.
Meat is still king, the roasted suckling pig porchetta, is a carnivore’s dream. Forget small sharing plates. This is a hunky piece of meat. The slow-cooked pork is a tad dry.  Dessert is a rather unusual cheddar ice cream, that leaps too far into savoury.
Verdict
Wilson & Market, is all about the smoke and grill. Drawing inspiration from classic British roast and veggies, the Sunday roast is taken to new levels. The seaweed butter and the Petuna ocean trout were particularly memorable. With sustainability at it’s core, you can expect quality produce with an evolving seasonal menu. Well worth-checking out, within and after market hours.
Transition Farm heritage pumpkin, native limes & sage
Slow cooked & roasted suckling pig porchetta w/ native muntries
Warm Bramley apple pie with cheddar ice cream

Tiger Dylan Grimes part of vintage crop
Dylan Grimes is a good footballer. He is also a very good wine-maker, the owner of a vineyard that makes very good wines. Unlike other footballers about whom the cliche is applied, he actually does have something worth bottling.
Grimes is a vigneron. To our knowledge, he is the only one in the AFL. Last October, he bought Mount Macedon Winery.
Taste test: Tiger Dylan Grimes at Mount Macedon Winery, which he purchased last year.  Photo: Chris Hopkins
Grimes loves wine, its complexity and nuance and how subtle changes can have a significant impact on the quality from the same grapes vintage to vintage, but he didn’t set out to buy a winery. It wasn’t about the wine. He and partner Elisha were hunting for the right rural property close to Melbourne that they could operate for weddings, receptions and corporate functions.
It was about lifestyle more than wine. Elisha was in wedding management at wineries in the Yarra Valley and Dylan came off a hobby farm at Panton Hill at the base of Kinglake mountain in the north-eastern part of the Yarra Valley when he stepped into football at Richmond. They wanted to have the lifestyle shift to the country and run a business.

The winery sits at the base of Mount Macedon on slopes that sweep down to state forest. The winery is now named after the mountain it nuzzles up to but when it was first bought and planted out it was owned by the singer Olivia Newton John for her Koala Blue label. The label went bust in 1991.
The winery changed hands a few times and one of the owners ripped out acres of ill-suited grape varieties and concentrated on pinot noir and chardonnay. Both are extremely good (well you can’t guess at these things, it’s best to be thorough in your research).
“We knew from the start it was very much a lifestyle choice. I come home all the time and I am in the paddock and it doesn’t feel like work. We are lucky to find something we both love and can work on together as well,” he said.
Get the latest news and updates emailed straight to your inbox.
“We were looking for all different types of farms and originally this place had 20 acres of vineyards, now it has about six-and-a-half. The vines that were left were the original lot that was planted in 1989, so this was by far the better block and they kept these and pulled out the others. The irrigation and stuff is  there so we will look to replant them in the long term, but with more pinot probably.”
Grimes talks about the vineyard with infectious enthusiasm. They started small in October, just planning to get things right for weddings, but then a connection with Matt Harrop at Shadowfax had them bottling their own wine (the pinot will be under their label, the chardonnay has been sold under Shadowfax). They reopened the cellar door which had been closed for six years and now they are busy every weekend with lunches, wine sales and weddings. The property runs Black Angus cattle, poultry and has a herb garden to supply the cellar door restaurant.
Dylan splits his time between the vineyard and the city. When he is training and playing, he stays in Richmond with his brother Jack who recently retired after captaining Melbourne for a period.
The work on the vines and the paddocks draws him out constantly. The summer was hard. Pre-season is difficult and around that he was trying to renovate the cellar door facility and work in the vineyard. Having cracked into the work from the moment they settled, he arrived back for pre-season training the only Richmond player to have lower fat levels than when he left.
“I have never been happier. The first few months were challenging, pre-seasons are hard and I am tired and you come back here and work and often there are long days at the club as well.”
As a vineyard owner, and producer of his own wine, he understands about balance. About getting conditions right to produce something special. His football club has done something similar this year in finally getting its balance right. Certainly in defence, where Grimes plays, they have.
After a run of seasons regularly interrupted by injuries, Dylan is playing the best and most consistent football of his career. Whether it is a cause or effect of getting the balance right in his life away from the game, being so occupied and stimulated is academic but he suspects that it is so.
“Whether there is a link I am not sure, I strongly believe players who have a balanced lifestyle play their best footy. I guess at the moment I am finding that balance,” he said.
The balance is there on the field most notably in the trio of tall defenders at Richmond who bring the best out of each other. Alex Rance is popularly accepted to be the best defender in the game. Grimes and David Astbury are important in allowing him to be as good as he is. And in turn Rance’s game elevates Astbury’s, Astbury’s complements Grimes’.
“The bond that Alex, Dave and I have formed as a deep three defence has been huge. We invested a lot in playing together, our backline has been unchanged other than a few injuries with Reece Conca going down and Bachar out more recently, but there has not been much of a shake up to the backline which helps us so much because the more you play with them the better you are.
“We are all three very different players, Dave is an absolute brute, he is the typical fullback who can win the ball back for you and take those marks and Rancey is just a freak of nature the way he plays and then I try and fill the gaps in between if there is a small forward playing deeper I take him or try and leave my man a bit to chop them out.
“When the ball is going in and you see Rancey going one on one I can hedge my bets and know that he is probably going to win that contest and the same with Dave so that allows me to be slightly more attacking with my position but playing with someone you haven’t played with before you have to still stay on your man because you don’t now what the result of the contest is going to be.”
The effect is Richmond are among the best defensive teams in the competition. They rank first for keeping opposition side from converting times inside their forward zone to a score or a goal. They have conceded the second lowest number of points of any side.
They are the best team for a turnover in defence not resulting in a goal, and third fewest score from clearances at stoppages.
All of this is relevant because of the last 12 premiers, nine have been ranked in the top three for defence. Presently Richmond sit second.
Like a good wine, depth is found when everything is in balance.

Down under! The country that’s also a continent! The gateway to New Zealand! The place with a bunch of stuff that can kill you! Kangaroo island! Oz!
Yes, Australia, and all of its names can evoke quite a few stereotypes, and I’m here to tell you that they’re all true.
With an area rivaling that of the Continental United States and a population just larger than that of Southern California, Australia is quite spread out. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to see here (spoiler: a lot of those things are rocks).
QUICK AUSTRALIA FACTS
This thing’s here too.

AUSTRALIA BASICS
LANGUAGE | Although you may be confused at first by all the “g’day, mates” and “how you goings,” English is the official language in Australia! It’s a sort of hybrid English that came about when British and American English had a baby that grew up and got stuck in its rebellious teenage years; you can see traces of its parents, but it has decided to do things its own way. So don’t whinge should someone invite you over for a stubby during the arvo league match.
GETTING AROUND | Australia doesn’t have the greatest intercity infrastructure. That being said, the country can be crossed via bus or rail (or car if you be so bold). However, flights may be the most common way to get around the country. Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, offers cheap flights within the country (even to places like Alice Springs and Uluru – yes, there’s an airport at Uluru).
GEOGRAPHY | The sixth largest country in the word, Australia is huge. However, nearly 60% of the country’s 23 million inhabitants are concentrated in just four cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. All the major cities, with the exception of the capital city of Canberra, are located along the coast (primarily the east and southeast coasts). The Outback, which constitutes the vast majority of Australia’s landmass is sparsely populated and home to only a few paved highways. The country’s highest point, Mount Kosciuszko (7,310 ft / 2,228 m) is in Kosciuszko National Park in the southeast. The weather typically get colder and drier as you head south, and stays hot and humid in the tropical northern regions.
THINGS TO DO | The beaches and oceans are probably the biggest draws for tourists visiting Australia, but despite its massive coastline, there’s plenty more to be explored. Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) is one of the country’s top destinations and one of the most remote in the world. Tasmania, basically the Alaska of Australia, has 45% of its area in reserves, national parks, and World Heritage Sites. You can head to Port Douglas, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, in Northern Queensland for diving. The Blue Mountains just outside Sydney offer hiking, climbing, and abseiling. There are even ski resorts in Australia (although you’re better off not visiting should winter sports are your primary motivation for doing so).
WHEN TO GO | I remind you that Australia resides in the Southern Hemisphere – so the seasons you’re probably used to are reversed here. If you’re looking to hit the height of summer, then you’re looking at a December to February window (although Queensland beaches are ripe for swimming all year). If you are keen on visiting the Outback, then you might want to visit between June and August (unless you’re a fan of temperatures approaching 120°F / 50°C). The wet season can be up to six months depending on where in the country you are, and the farther north you go the more humidity you’ll encounter.

THE STATES
Typically I do a bit on “what to eat” here, but Australia, as is the case with many English-speaking countries, does not offer the widest range of specialized “local dishes”. Instead, you can find food from all over the world (but yes, you can also buy and eat kangaroo). So in lieu of trying to come up with what you should eat in Australia, I thought I would talk a bit about each of the country’s seven states (and capital district).
QUEENSLAND | Home to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns, the Gold Coast, and the capital of Brisbane, Queensland (in Australia’s northeast) is warm year-round and is a top destination among people looking to take full advantage of Australia’s beaches. Diving, surfing, and whale watching (isn’t it weird that we just watch whales?), are big draws for people to visit here, but you can also find the Daintree Rainforest – the largest continuous area of tropical rainforest in Australia (460 mi² / 1,200 km²).
NEW SOUTH WALES | In the southeast you’ll find New South Wales, the most populated Australian state. Here we find Australia’s largest and most iconic city, Sydney, along with Royal National Park (the country’s first), the Blue Mountains, and the country’s highest point, Mount Kosciuszko. In the north, you can find Byron Bay – the most eastern point of mainland Australia, and in the south, you can find the Australian Capital Territory (which is completely surrounded by New South Wales).
VICTORIA | Melbourne is the capital and largest city in southeastern Victoria, and it’s here that you can find the biggest fans of the AFL, or Australian Football League (and no, this is neither soccer nor is it American football). Victoria may be the smallest state on the Australian mainland, but it’s one of the most popular destinations. It’s in Victoria that you’ll find the Great Ocean Road, the Twelve Apostles, and numerous wine regions such as the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula.
TASMANIA | Tasmania (or Tassie) is a bit like Australia’s Alaska – a forgotten state that few people have been to but that everyone regards as being beautiful (and that has spectacular trekking). Located 150 mi / 240 km south of mainland Australia, Tasmania is home to some of the world most famous treks, including the Overland Track. It’s covered in national parks and protected reserves and is almost more like New Zealand’s little brother than part of Australia (but don’t tell Australia that).
SOUTH AUSTRALIA | South Australia is the driest of Australia’s states (in terms of yearly precipitation) and its capital city Adelaide is where many people begin their journies into the Outback. In the west, you’ll find the Nullarbor Plain (home to the longest, straightest road in the world at 90.5 mi / 145.6 km). Heading towards the center of South Australia there’s the opal mining town of Coober Pedy and then basically just desert until you hit the Northern Territory border (followed by more desert). Something South Australia does have a lot of? Awesome breweries (check out Pirate Life, Big Shed, and Vale).
NORTHERN TERRITORY | The Northern Territory is the third largest of Australia’s states/territories, but it is the least populated (it has half the population of Tasmania). It’s two largest cities are Alice Springs and the capital of Darwin, and it’s home to Uluru – one of Australia’s icons (after kangaroos and koalas, of course). Its southern half is dominated by the Outback, but the northern third of the state quickly transitions into hot and sweaty tropics (filled with crocodiles). Awesome places to check out in the Top End are Nitmiluk National Park, Kakadu National Park, and Litchfield National Park.
WEST AUSTRALIA | Western Australia is quite literally the wild west of the country. Dominating nearly half the landmass of mainland Australia, the geographic reach of the state is enormous. It’s two most well-known cities are probably the capital, Perth, in the south (often referred to as “the most remote city in the world”) and Broome in the north. Western Australia (or “W/A” for short) is also home to the Margaret River wine region and the Kimberley – wilderness-filled region covering the north of the state. It may be intimidating to head all the way the other side of Australia, but I’ve never met anyone who didn’t love it over here.
CANBERRA | Canberra is Australia’s capital city and it operates within the autonomous Australian Capital Territory (which is encircled by New South Wales). I have not been to Canberra, but reports from those who have typically include phrases such as “pretty boring” or “lots of parks”. Apparently, it’s a beautiful city filled with interesting museums and galleries – just not much to do there, I suppose (will have to visit and report back to you on this front – input is welcome).

AUSTRALIA TIPS & TRICKS
THE OUTBACK | The Outback doesn’t have defined boundaries, but it can typically be described as anywhere outside major city centers – particularly as you move towards the center of the country. It’s what a lot of people imagine Australia is and stands as a stark contrast to Australia’s other image – that of beaches and kangaroo feeding. Temperatures in the Outback can reach up to 50°C (120F) on summer days and drop to below freezing during winter nights. It’s also filled with flies. Definitely not a place you should ever ride a bicycle across.
KILLER ANIMALS | Yes, as you may have heard, Australia is host to a shockingly high number of venomous or otherwise murderous organisms. However, the whereabout of said death bringers are largely known and most of the people who fall victim to the country’s wildlife are generally doing something somewhere they should not be doing things (like swimming where there are signs posted about crocodiles).
WIFI | The state of Australia’s internet is bad enough to constitute a national shame. Free and open wifi networks do exist but don’t expect to find them everywhere (especially if you’re outside a major city). Cellular data is quite fast (typically quicker than home installations), but the price per gigabyte is quite expensive. Most on Australian internet here.
ALCOHOL | Alcohol in Australia is expensive (both in stores and at bars). Wine is the least expensive beverage you will find but expect a six pack of craft beer to cost you somewhere around $25 AUD. Liquor isn’t outragesouly priced, but is definitely on the more expensive side. Many restaurants in Australia are licensed for BYO (bring your own) alcohol (some places charge something like $2 per person if you choose to do this).
GAMBLING | Gambling in Australia is legal and it’s everywhere. There may be only one casino in every Australian state, but that doesn’t stop hotels and bars from filling parlors with sports betting and pokies (slot machines). It’s one of those things that’s everywhere, but that you don’t hear spoken about too often. Protip: the casinos are open 24 hours if you need a place to spend the night (but don’t try sleeping anywhere).
SPORTS | Australia appears to be undecided on its favorite sports as both the Australian Football League (AFL) and rugby (which is further broken down into both Rugby League and Rugby Union) are big deals depending on which state you’re in (Victoria = AFL, NSW/Queensland = Rugby). What Americans call ‘soccer’, Australians also call soccer. What Americans call ‘football’, Australians call ‘gridiron’. And what Australians call ‘football’ (AFL), Americans call ‘that game that looks like rugby?’.
ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIA | Australia’s relationship with Aboriginal Australians (the indigenous peoples of Australia) is complicated to say the least. Things are far from “sorted” and there’s a lot of sensitivity (and insensitivity) regarding the topic. If you can have a peaceful and educated discussion with someone about Aboriginal Australia, then I encourage you to do so. Just be sure to pick your company wisely (Australia can be an incredibly racist place).
