Some of my favourite terminology for sex, sexuality, and gender that have mostly fell out of use:
Sapphist: Similar to the term Sapphic which is still in use, derived from the woman loving Greek poet Sappho. The -ist has implications of doing rather than being. A Sapphist is a woman who has romantic and sexual relationships with other women. It was commonly used in the 19th and early 20th century, eventually replaced by lesbian in common usage. Some famous historical figures who used this term include Vita Sackville-West, who also used the terms lesbian and homosexual.
Tumblr media
Mukhannathun: Translates roughly to "effeminate ones" or "ones who resemble women", typically refers to a feminine male, an intersex person, or one whose sex is indistinct. Modern scholars place the term Mukhannath in correlation with trans feminine. Mukhannathun traditionally took on the social roles of women in Saudi Arabia and feature in Ḥadīth Islamic literature. They were often musicians and entertainers, Abū ʿAbd al-Munʿim ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Dhāʾib (or Tuwais) being perhaps the first famous Mukhannath musician. I could not find any depictions of Mukannathun.
Invert: Sexology in the early 20th century believed that same sex desire and cross gender identification were natural in some people. It was coined in German by Karl Friedrich Otto Westphal (1833-1890) and translated across Europe and eventually into English as sexual inversion by John Addington Symonds Jr. (1840-1893) in 1883. Inverts were people whose natural sex instinct (heterosexual, cisgender) were "inverted", causing a natural desire for the same sex or to live as the other sex. It was thought that most inverts desired a relationship with a "normal" member of their own sex, for example a masculine presenting woman would desire a feminine presenting "normal" woman, a feminine presenting man would desire a masculine or "normal" man. While most sexologists thought sexual inversion was natural, they worried about corruption of "normal" people by inverts. The writer 'John' Radclyffe Hall (1880-1943) identified as an invert and explored the life of inverts in her 1928 novel The Well of Loneliness.
Tumblr media
Uranism: A Uranian was a man who was romantically or sexually interested in other men. One of the earliest records of the term comes from Friedrich Schiller's 'Sixth Letter' in the Aesthetic Education of Man in 1795. It is derived from the ancient Greek goddess Aphrodite Urania, a manifestation of Aphrodite who was free of physical desire and instead was attracted by mind and soul. Ancient Greek literature was very important in the early formations of queer identity and self-recognition. Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was known to use the term Uranian.
Tumblr media
Tribadism: Derived from the Greek "tribas" which means "to rub", tribadism denotes both a sexual position (now known as tribbing or scissoring) and a woman who seeks to sexual dominate and/or penetrate another woman. This term could also be used to describe an intersex person who lives as female and is the penetrating partner during sex with women. It became the most common word to describe any kind of sexual intimacy between women in English literature from the 16th to 19th centuries. Marie Antoinette, queen of France from 1773 to 1792 was "defamed" in many anti-monarchist newspapers as being a tribade.
Tumblr media
Eonism: Eonism was coined by English sexologist Havelock Ellis (1859-1939) to describe cross gender identification and presentation. "Eon" after the French diplomat Charlotte-Geneviève-Louise-Augusta-Andréa-Timothéa d'Éon de Beaumont, who was assigned male at birth but lived as a woman from 1777 until her death in 1810. Eonism was later replaced by transvestism in popular usage in the early to mid 20th century, coined by Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935) in 1910.
Tumblr media
Eunuch: the term Eunuch has many connotations but the one common factor that almost all definitions share is that a eunuch is an intentionally castrated male. Eunuchs can also be uncastrated, but put into the social role as eunuch due to their 1) feminine presentation 2) inability to procreate 3) attraction to men. Eunuchs were not seen as men in most cultures, they were specifically chosen and castrated in order to fill a specific, separate social role from men and women. It was sometimes punitive, for example under Assyrian law men who were caught in sexual acts with other men were castrated. Eunuchs often had positions in royal households in the Ancient Middle East, their sexlessness was seen to enhance their loyalty to the crown as they were less likely to be distracted by sex or marriage, and it also allowed for jobs to be given on merit, and not inherited since Eunuchs could not reproduce. In Ancient Greece certain sects of male priests were eunuchs. China had Eunuchs who were fully castrated (penis and testicles) and high ranking in imperial service. In Vietnam, many eunuchs were self castrated in order to gain employment in the royal households.
Tumblr media
Homophile: coined in 1924 by Karl-Günther Heimsoth (1899-1933) in his dissertation Hetero- und Homophilie. The term was in common use in the 50s and 60s in gay activism groups. It was an alternative to homosexual coined in 1868 by Károly Mária Kertbeny (1824-1882) which was thought to have pathological and sexual implications, whereas homophile prioritised love and appreciation over the sex act or pathology. It is still in use in some parts of northern Europe. The Homophile Action League was founded by lesbian couple Ada Bello (1933-2023) and Carole Friedmann (1944-?) in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. in 1968, a year before the Stonewall Riots.

Hello, it's me, again, talking about my Hades x Persephone wip lmao
This time I want to talk about another member of the band and the deity I chose for him in my au.
Today it's Kris's turn!
Kris's deity is Freyja!
Tumblr media
There were other options for him before I landed on Freyja.
At first I pictured Apollo, god of arts, music and poetry, light/sun, knowledge, prophecy and healing (and many other stuff) as Kris's divine "guide". He's the inventor of music with string instruments (Kris plays guitars). Kris is the other one in the band who writes lyrics (poetry). Apollo is a healer, and I can easily see Kris as the "healer" of the group, trying to help the others when they feel down or ill (ginger shots?).
The second one was Aphrodite, goddess of love, passion, beauty and sexuality (and some other stuff linked to the amorous/sexual semantic area). We joke a lot about Kris being a princess or a queen or about him being a lesbian, especially after the Stožice outfit that made us go crazy. Giving him a female deity linked to sensuality seemed a good choice.
But then Freyja arrived. She's a female goddess associated with love, beauty and sex, but not only! She's also a warrior goddess and rules over Fólkvangr, the other heavenly field where she welcomes half of those who die in battle. Kris isn't only sensuality, he fought for his identity, both as a person (him accepting his "feminine" side, his longer hair) and as a musician in the band (stepping outside Bojan's and his father's shadow and shining by his own).
Besides, Freyja's animal is the cat, and sometimes I see Kris as cat coded in his behaviour.

I am just going to go off on a tangent on the celebs that I think should play Greek gods:
Jack Harlow would slay as Apollo. There’s just something about him okay?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Christian Bale could totally pull off Zeus. I mean look at the material.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My sisters lesbian awakening, Kate Winslet, would kill it as Hera. (Always and forever will be a queen)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lady Gaga as our beloved Demeter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keanu (Are we surprised he’s on this list) Reeves as Poseidon (No, I am not just missing him in point break… I am)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The gorgeous Catherine Zeta Jones as Hestia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keke Palmer as Aphrodite (She’s always been so damn beautiful imo I also just LOVE how gold looks on her. A icon.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ashnikko as Artemis (Yes, the twins are both musicians. Also because her alternative style could easily blend and give us a Artemis portrayal that would make history)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mila Kunis as Athena (I just think she would give us everything as Athena.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a Gubler enjoyer, him = Dionysus ✨✨ (As someone else said, he could also play Apollo. But only if Jack Harlow is unavailable but I really see Apollo as a musical oriented guy because Artemis was Ashnikko in my mind first and they’re twins so they gotta match and well… I just think Matthew dressed in a purple toga with gold armlets and anklets and a grape vine crown would get Gubler Nation screaming crying and throwing up.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ares could only be played by Daniel Radcliffe (Stick with me, okay) Imagine the comedy that could possibly come from short man syndrome. Like some monster is like “This is the Ares? God of War?” And then we see Daniel absolutely knock the shit outta them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, our local actor who shouldn’t be allowed near water or to date anyone younger than 27 (I was legally obliged to make that joke but honestly all I know is he isn’t dating me and that my only issue with him jk jk …unless?) Leonardo DeCaprio as Hades.

ok my theoretical ideas for femslash poll.. legacy tumblr era stuff swan queen the fact they keep getting forgotten is so insane to me like they were IT that show was so fucking bad but regina was IT gelphie a bit of an out of left field on but like it is real brittana as a tip of the hat to santanas IMPACT karmy faking it because faking it was a social experiment we need to admire from a distance with hazmat suits... also thinking about this bad poll i saw that put like fucking princess peach and daisy on there which hsa no femslash footprint i think u just invented that but like if we are being honest to tumblr maybe we gotta put ruby and sapphire from steven universe on there u know like they had an impact i realize talking about steven universe on this website is somehow like scary but that cannot erase their impact and then i think because i do not want to give it all to the carmilla webseries but like they were impactful in that era i think more like collage of every version of laura and carmilla throughout time korrasami OF COURSE bubbline duh! rosemary and vrisrezi for me specifically but it can be narrowed down to simply rosemary then like 90s femslash pioneers xena and gabrielle of course of course idk if it would be funny for me but i dont think theres enough xena fans to vote here to put multiple slots on there like gabrielle/aphrodite or callisto/xena or something but i know those warriors are out there now the next question is the star trek girlies cuz i think kiradax is the most popular on tumblr but seven/janeway is legacy but i dont care about it then theres weird more niche stuff like michael/georgiou or you know the absolute pioneers making the first femslash zines out there with like chapel/uhura their minds in the 70s but back to 90s icons i feel like some buffy option should be there for again posterity idk if u go with willow/tara or buffy/faith but whatever they are out there and then for meeee talia and susan from b5 tho they would get mercilessly destroyed in the first round love loses then like anime girlies anthy and utena of course of course also 90s icons haruka and michiru duuuh madoka and homura of course nana and nana maybe some niche or out of left field options too tho something that could stand a fighting chance would be like misato/ritusko from evangelion or like you know as a shoutout to lesbian shounen rivals besties jolyne and hermes from jojo part 6 but these are just like from things people have actually heard of fadsjkl;ds ok then like video game girlies i say as i pretend to know about video games but love and respect towards alphys and undyne and then idk i think it would be funny to throw something kinda silly like chell/glados in there cuz idk anything about that but i respect them so much like idk maybe the evil computer flooding your room with neurotoxin is gay #equality ok actually this is getting so long and bad and i can still think of a million more things to add but i wanna draw goodbye for now

challenge/game time!!
give a fun fact/random little thing you’ve noticed about each of your deities (or whoever you really feel like doing this for)
some examples would be:
on the occasion i attempt to drink bitter/especially strong coffee (and fail, mind you) hermes laughs and calls me a wimp as i fill my cup with cream and sugar
apollo’s hair length varies for me, sometimes it’s about shoulder length (or shorter) and others it’s long (think waist length)
whenever i envision hypnos in modern clothes, i’ll see him in comfy sweats and hair tied up (half up/half down)
for me, hades has long black hair and dark eyes (his hair is usually down, haven’t seen him with any particular style just yet)
Ooooo this is fun!!
Aphrodite is pretty much always naked when she shows up. I don't think i've ever seen her with clothes on. I'm of course not complaining
Apollo always has his hair up in elaborate pretty styles. Lately he has cute little space buns with two loose strands framing his face.
Artemis doesn't like being indoors often, which is why she insists I sit outside on my lunch break. Its also why shes not around as much as some of the other gods. She gets very antsy.
Hermes secretly (or maybe not so secretly) is actually the most sensitive out of all the gods in my experience.
Eris doesn't talk much, but her face tells you all you need to know. Also she likes to wrap her wings around me when she's feeling protective of me and I really like that.
Demeter really is the ultimate mom! Like she would be that mom at Pride adopting all the queer kids who don't have supportive parents and then she'd go punch those parents in the face.
Persephone in the Spring/Summer is very different from Persephone in the Autumn/Winter. Tho I have more experience with Queen Persephone, I'm curious if now that I'm spending time with Demeter if I'll get more experience with Kore.
Athena has a great sense of humor although its usually at the expense of her siblings...mostly Ares. Also Athena and Artemis have this weird competitive relationship, idk if anyone else gets that vibe. But whenever they're in the room together they just glare at each other like they wanna arm wrestle or something. Maybe its because they're lesbians.
Zeus has such a BOOMING laugh! Its kind of like thunder but a lot more comforting and warm.
Hestia is so darn cute! She has the sweetest softest voice and she always goes "Yay!" cutely whenever I finish my chores! xD
The few times I got to hang out with Ares i noticed that he doesn't shut up! lol! Like seriously. He has ongoing commentary for EVERYTHING! I even cross referenced this with @theoi-crow and he concurred that Ares does indeed not shut up for anything! (Except maybe Aphrodite xD). Also he's best friends with Artemis.

June Wrap Up ✨
We're back at it again. I will admit I didn't read as much as I wanted to BECAUSE I am still reading too many fanfics (just today I started and finished one). Since it was pride month I tried to keep it LGBTQ+ (as if I don't read gay stuff on a daily basis). I read 4 books (if we count fanfics, I read 8 books), and as always, be careful because I might spoil something.
1. The Atlas Six - 4/5
Honestly, I though I was going to like it more, but the open ending just left me shocked and unable to think. HOWEVER, that does not erase the fact that I love the characters of this book??? Well, I love 4-5 characters, the other ones are just there and I tolerate them. Reina, just like her name, is a freaking queen, I want to be her, I want to be Mother. Parisa is just, wow. Bisexual representation right there, and the trio scene?? My jaw was on the FLOOR. Now I just need her to have an orgy with all of them. Dalton is hot. But the real deal are Nico and Gideon. I don't know how to explain my smile whenever they interacted. And the shit the said about each other?? Excuse me??? Just get married. Nico is one of my favourite characters of the year. Not just book, year.
2. Aphrodite made me do it - 4/5
This is a poetry/narration book and it's so good. It even made a friend of minr cry in the middle of the street. It's just weird seeing some of your own fears on paper like that, and the references to greek mythology are just amazing. My favourite poem is the Achilles one (obviously). I'm already reading the second one, and these are books I'm willing to collect.
3. The Uncensored Picture Of Dorian Gray - 3/5
I was on a Ben Barnes lock down, I obviously had to re read this bc I only read it for school and remembered NOTHING, but I chose the uncensored version. If you are going to be gay, do it well 😤. After giving it some thoughts, I see why people love it, it certainly makes you react, and Basil is the best, but like... The way the ending is written is a bit anticlimactic for me. Wilde spent paragraphs describing, but the ending felt to quick. Idk, I think I am not made for classics.
4. They Never Learn - 2/5
Listen, I was all in for a vigilante killer teacher. But this book was not it (I have a lot of thoughts and there are spoilers). It frustrated me more than anything. On chapter 10 I was already bored, but I kept reading bc I was promised dark academia and queer representation. It fell flat. Like, I know men ain't sh*t, but like, the only good men in the book are the gay couple. Everyone else is a predator. And Scarlett is a freaking hypocrite, that made me so mad. Also, the twists were predictable, but maybe it was just for me bc I am just that good. What bothers me the most is the fact that there is nothing darrk academiaish about it when I was promised that. The ending and the relationship are too idealistic. Where is my suffering?? WHERE???? ALSO, why is one of the genres of the book Lesbian when the characters are bisexual?? I know it's a lesbian relationship, but still, the characters don't stop being bisexual for it.

Hey friend! Happy WBW!
what Greek / Roman gods / mythological figures would your main cast be? (If you've already done Greco - Roman, then maybe Mayan or Egyptian Gods PICK A MYTHOS I GUESS LOL 🤣)
@bloodlessheirbyjacques ✨🔥
@bloodlessheirbyjacques
Happy World Building Wednesday! This is a fun question, I've never considered anything like it before!
Zeus - Tristira (Silverwood): the eternal empress, who somehow manages to come out on top from multiple uprisings
Hera - Gheist (Celestials): he is the well put together, community-minded (nonromantic) partner to a much louder and more bombastic person who he often needs to rein in (Seneria)
Poseidon - Tiarnach (Untitled 3): this one might be too obvious and I haven't really revealed too much information yet so let's just say he is heavily involved with the sea ;)
Hades - Temitope (Temitope): calm and dedicated, dependable, willing to do what needs to get done
Persephone - Sigrid (Temitope): she went from being a spoiled and cosseted princess to a vengeful queen, I think it fits
Athena - Kyraen (Northbound): a seemingly serious (and celibate) strategist and warrior
Apollo - Kishar (Miracles): he was literally based on a sort of Apollo-like figure, a brash and show off-y sun god who takes what he wants
Artemis - Margherita (The Deadlands): associated with the wilderness, with hunting, with animals, and also with being a lesbian
Hermes - Retta (Laero): the thief and the trickster, who nonetheless is actually also doing her job. And being a merchant isn't that different from being a messenger
Hephaestus - Mahesha (Second Chances): the loyal and talented craftsperson who is often overlooked
Demeter - Ro (Silverwood): the woman who left wealth and prestige behind to live a simple life and raise a big family way out in the countryside
Aphrodite - Junior (Silverwood): who is quite powerful and intelligent, but loves to let people underestimate him by making everybody think that he's just a dumb slut
Dionysus - Ithea (Silverwood): because she is wild and sexual and more than a little feral, and loves having a good time
Hecate - Arishen (Miracles): quiet and often overlooked god associated with sorcery and the night/the moon, who many people think is unnatural and/or evil
Hestia - Dante (Untitled 1): being someone powerful who is ultimately confined to house and home… I just think he would relate
Ares - Bozier (Laero): so I have a lot of warriors but the thing about Ares is that he's kind of an overbearing brute who is, at heart, also kind of a huge coward…Bozier to a T

✨Meet The Characters - Weisse Rose ✨
Wasima Rahmani
Alongside Wolffe on his serial flirting, we have Wasima - the DJ, synths, sound effects and Diva of the band! If Diana is a daughter of Ares, Wasima is definitely a daughter of Aphrodite!
She is very openly lesbian and goes by Mata Hari when she's DJ-ing at underground clubs or LGBTQ+ parties.
Some character sheet things down below and then, some notes on her character down the cut, as always!
Age: Early 29
Height: 1.69 (5'5)
Astrological Sign: Aquarius (my woman is a REBEL)
Languages: Arabic, Spanish, English, French
Heavenly Virtue: Unwavering kindness - will give everything and everyone all the kindness she has in her heart; she sees vulnerability as a strength, not a weakness (so much to teach to all of them)
Hellish Sin: Puts on a Shallow Persona - inside, she isn't shallow at all and even hates it, but she thinks the more of a Diva she is, the more people will like her; it's all fake and she doesn't know how to do relationships as herself rather than ~Diva Mata Hari~
Current Occupation: DJ and Seamstress - usually for the underground scene (mostly goths) and Drag Queens
Taller than Diana, smaller than Marty no one is taller than Wolffe man is a street-lamp-post
Darker skin, beautiful glassy green eyes, heart shaped lips, natural dark hair
ALWAYS wearing makeup - be it extreme or lighter, but is NEVER seen without it
She doesn't think she needs it, she just likes it a LOT
Rebels against everything she was taught a "proper woman" should be: wears short skirts and revealing clothes, paints her very long nails, wears bright and feminine colors, cuts her hair how she feels like it, etc.
Wears her femininity as a weapon and loves it
Wasima and Diana connect over the fact on how they were taught inside religious visions of what women should be (Muslim and Catholic) and they rebelled on their own way
Wasima ended up hyper-feminine and glamorous while Diana ended up a tough androgynous goth/punk
Loves Santiago to death
Lesbian
Well-known DJ in the underground scene
A true Daughter of Aphrodite - hence why she and Diana see each other as good friends, sisters even. She has a lot to teach Diana on accepting love, femininity, fun and being flirty, while Diana teaches her a thing or two about standing up for herself and fistfighting
Had to leave her country because one of the many countless wars against Arab countries
Her parents sacrificed themselves to save her - she ended up in Spain, not knowing a single word
Taken in by one of her mother's friends who lived in Spain; got used to call her Aunt
Met Santiago in school when she was a teen refugee: they bonded over being bullied by who they are
Santi got her into DJ-ing and the LGBTQ+ scene
Learned to sew with her father - he was a tailor and she put everything he taught her into practice when making her own clothes and later for clients (mostly Drag Queens)
Dreams of having a fairy tale sort of relationship - with her being a princess and finding her she-knight in shining armor - but thinks no one will be able to truly love someone like her
I am aware her ~Arab background~ is very undefined, but it IS a choice. Weisse Rose isn't set on current times - it's sort of like in a near future. Maybe a parallel reality, if you're more comfortable with that. There are MANY wars against Arabic people and MANY refugees from MANY countries and backgrounds. I had MANY choices to work with and, in the end, I didn't want to choose one because I realized all information I have about their culture, countries, languages, religion, wars are biased - until I can't inform myself better, I don't want to make a caricature of a character.
At first, her character was the classic "Arab woman viciously mistreated by men because all Muslim/Arab men are aggressive misogynists" and I was able to see how wrong I was - how much of biased propaganda that was. It is a good plot if you don't generalize like we are made to: yes, some men are jerk misogynists, but some men are not - and race has nothing to do with that. And that's when I decided to make her story more on her having loving parents and good memories of her childhood/country until war broke it all. Even so, she found a good family with her Aunt in Spain - the prejudice against her origin/refugee status and being a lesbian is a bigger problem to her.
We can leave the abusive parents issues to Wolffe - he will have a lot to unpack and deal with; plus, parents all over the world can be jerks to their kids. It's not a race problem, it's a people problem.
