I wonder if Marcus is embarrassed that Simon would still rather fuck Wille in an ugly wig than him

maybe it's just the Radical Rediker talking, but there's something pointed in the way that, say, popular pirate media like Pirates of the Caribbean dilutes the pirate's freedom to "bring me that horizon" as opposed to, say, "plenty and satiety, pleasure and ease, liberty and power" (Bartholomew Roberts).
broadly speaking, most pirates chose the life in order to escape and revenge the hard labour, corporal punishment, overworking, and unequal pay of merchant/navy/privateer ships; or the privations of their sudden unemployment once a war was over, ignored as soon as their ability to die for the state was unneeded. yes, many were thugs, but, consciously political or not, they were responding to a particular, material reality.
the pirate's desired freedom was from the effects of exploitative modes of statehood and capital production. but popular media usually shifts this into a general desire for freedom: freedom to roam, freedom to love (usually merely a cross-class white, heterosexual union), or freedom from the personal pressures of social norms. it's a vague, ahistorical, post-Enlightenment, libertarian ideal rather than a response to a real social and economic situation.
to be clear, this only really applies to specifically the late golden age of piracy, in the first quarter of the 18th century. earlier generations of pirates/buccaneers often displayed nationalist/religious motives, and were lauded, tolerated, or even encouraged by the French and English states for aiding their fights against the Spanish and Portuguese. only the last gasp of age of sail pirates had a truly anti-national energy, and both figured themselves, and were figured by the imperial powers, as the enemies of all nations.
but if we are to valourise the late golden age pirate, at his best, his ideals were for true democracy, and the abolition of nation, hierarchy, and labour exploitation; not "the horizon". he was striking out in response to specific political, social, and economic oppressions, rather than a general individual restlessness, and that reality - and its similarities to our own - are important.
I dunno, I just... have a lot of thoughts about the defanging of piracy in modern media. obviously there were a lot of things bad about them, too, and the level of egalitarianism varied between individual people and ships. but again, if we're going to be valourising them anyway... there were idealists. and they weren't subtle about they wanted.
"I shan't own myself guilty of any murder", said William Fly in 1726. "Our captain and his mate used us barbarously. We poor men can't have justice done us. There is nothing said to our commanders, let them never so much abuse us, and use us like dogs. But the poor sailors --"

redacted tumblr is so funny because the consensus on marcus is split almost perfectly in half. i will scroll through countless posts on here of people absolutely thirsting over the man like he's a tall drink of ice cold water on a hot day and then they'll be immediately followed by twelve different posts with this picture

Saying that Noah Schnapp is "too young" to know what he's doing regarding his actions and words on Israel's genocide of Palestine is rage-inducing. Becos, here the fuck is Redveil, a Black man who's the same age as Schnapp, literally risking his rapping career and potentially his life advocating for Palestine at his concert. So, no, Noah Schnapp isn't too young nor is he a kid, he just chose to stay an ignorant White American.

Oliver Wood is NOT a Good Captain
“Bad news, Harry. I’ve just been to see Professor McGonagall about the Firebolt. She — er — got a bit shirty with me. Told me I’d got my priorities wrong. Seemed to think I cared more about winning the Cup than I do about you staying alive. Just because I told her I didn’t care if it threw you off, as long as you caught the Snitch on it first.”
But even Quidditch had lost its fun. The rest of the team wouldn’t speak to Harry during practice, and if they had to speak about him, they called him ‘the Seeker’.
The Gryffindor team visited again on Sunday morning, this time accompanied by Wood, who told Harry, in a hollow, dead sort of voice, that he didn’t blame him in the slightest.
I get the impression that fandom thinks Wood is a loving, good captain but he really is not. In isolation, the third snippet could be read as a joke (they did lose the match after all and Wood is quidditch obsessed). However, when you look at Oliver in totality, he shows time after time that he cares more about winning than Harry's safety and is perfectly ok with throwing Harry under the bus.
Overall, contrary to popular opinion, the Gryffindor team sucks. I am not talking about the individual players, but the whole team. Hermione disses Draco by saying that the lions got on their team by talent (screw Hermione btw, what does this annoying girl know about talent?)...but without Harry, they seem to be a bunch of losers.
Remember Minerva broke the rules for Harry to join the team as a first-year. Do you think she would have done so if the team was truly competent? The Quidditch World Cup in book 4 proved that a team can have a crap seeker and still dominate/win. The lions literally needed favouritism/nepotism to have a chance at winning. Let that sink in. But Snape is totally the biased teacher around here (sarcasm)
In either book 1 or book 2 (I think book 2), Harry missed the match and the team had the worst defeat in over 300 years! Further proof that these people suck without "chosen-one in more ways than one" Harry. By the way, Slytherin has reserve players. Does the Gryfinfor team have reserve players? Because I never see any. In book 6, when Draco and other Slytherins are conveniently out sick (to give Ron a chance at winning because the golden trio never seems to have to earn anything), they have backup players ready (eg that Harper guy who played Seeker in Draco's place). However, in book 5 when Harry and the twins are suspended, the team needs to hold tryouts to get new players. No backups in sight.
In book 3 when Harry gets his firebolt, the team (the entire school minus Slytherin house) gets all horny for the broomstick. "We have a firebolt!" basically reduced Harry's skill and importance to the team to his broomstick. These people don't care about Harry. Yet, it's such a crime when Draco and his team got new broomsticks in book 2! Gryffindors == Hypocrites.
I don't see much of Marcus Flint but from what I have read, I like him more as a captain. When the Gryffindor team tried to group assault a 12 yr old Draco after calling Hermione a mudblood (should have just called her a "bitch" or "hag" instead and saved everyone the need to virtue signal), Flint immediately threw himself in front of Draco to protect him. Remember these are older students trying to beat up a tiny 12 yr old because of something he said. The Weasley twins are BEATERS - just the 2 of them alone could have really hurt Draco. Compare this to Oliver who doesn't give a damn about Harry being hurt as long as he wins.
Also, when Draco is an idiot and loses to Harry in book 2 (of course, the only time someone has a better broom than Harry, Harry wins because that person decided to fool around despite wanting to play on a quidditch team before Harry even knew what the sport was), the Slytherins don't ostracize Draco the way the Gryfindors ostracized Harry when he lost house points.
In a nutshell: Marcus Flint >>> Oliver Wood & Gryffindor team sucks.
PS. If you are a Draco anti or Hermione stan or any other kind of Gryffindor stan that thinks Draco deserved to be group assaulted by bigger, older, stronger students because of calling Hermione a slur in response to her insulting him first, just ignore this post and move on. Unlike you and a good chunk of the HP fandom, I don't get sadistic pleasure from seeing Draco constantly (group) assaulted for saying mean words to characters who had contempt for him first.

Oh I take back what I said about Marcus being a sweetheart. This guy literally just asked Lisbon to marry him after knowing her for maybe a couple months maximum? That's so fast! Like yeah you're still cute but dear god you're giving the poor woman a whiplash.

Well, now we have Marcus styling him example #3! So maybe sxsw was the fluke? lol. I mean, if you're going to go monotone you have to actually stick to the same tone. A pure white shirt does not go with cream pants and a light yellowish cream jacket. Also, they make clothes in materials that don't wrinkle the second you sit down. He knew Jensen would be sitting for a long time at the event and still stuck him in something that probably wrinkled the second he moved. Also, just gotta say, its a very on the nose tennis match outfit.. he looks like a stereotypical rich white douche at a tennis match. So I guess if thats the look Marcus was going for then kudos!
LOL! Yep! My first thought was that he looked like a ponce (which, I believe is the same thing).
Did you see Jensen's out-and-about outfit with a fan? Another miss on the shirt (though it's not confirmed who picked that).
I'm just trying to figure out why they keep putting Jensen in browns, tans, and creams? They wash him out. He needs color to make his face and eyes pop (like that jacket at sxsw)! Maybe the sxsw look worked because of the one fabulous jacket. A bold statement piece can bring everything together and elevate practically any outfit.
Petition to put Jensen in more blues and greens!

"I wish Carol Marcus got more appreciation on Star Trek subreddits because the only thing close to that is people drooling over her underwear scene in Into Darkness. Otherwise, she's treated like an evil, manipulative baby mama or dumb blonde idiot in the way of a certain m/f pairing in the SNW subset of the Trek fandom. The thing is, I was indifferent to her character before, but all that character-bashing and shippers' envy directed towards her has made me her stan."

i was wondering, when marcus says to simon “so nothing happened between you two?” does he mean between ep4 and 6. or like pre s2?
also if he knew something happened at the ball, why did he text simon to hangout the next day? or did it just click for him later ..
Marcus knows something went down between Wille and Simon pre-s2; he knows about the video and that Wille “fucked over” Simon. He was referring to between episodes 4-6. I think Marcus suspected something may have happened between them, but he didn’t actually see anything. When Simon didn’t end up spending the night, and then ghosted him for several days afterward, his suspicions were essentially confirmed. Little did he know they didn’t just kiss at the ball but Simon had literally just come from having sex with Wille to break up with him 💀. The savagery.
That being said, despite what Marcus thinks, Simon did not break things off with him because of Wille. I believe him when he says, “this isn’t about Wille,” because ultimately it isn’t. Is he in love with Wille? Yes, and that’s part of the reason why things couldn’t work out between them, but at this point, Simon didn’t even know if he would get the chance to be with Wille after he went to the police. He broke up with Marcus because he didn’t want to be with him, but Marcus couldn’t accept that because in his mind he was being shafted in favour of “the prince,” so of course Simon must be some kind of clout chaser instead of having a genuine connection with Wille. I also don’t think Simon wanted to share the details of his relationship with Wille to Marcus, because, as Simon said to Wille about him hanging out with Marcus being none of Wille’s business, Simon’s relationship with Wille is none of Marcus’ business. They were never in an exclusive relationship and were casually dating/hanging out at most, so Simon can do whatever the hell he wants, and doesn’t owe Marcus an explanation beyond just not wanting to be with him, but Marcus barely lets him get a word in and instead pushes his own narrative of why the break up is happening, further emphasizing how little he listens to Simon and cares for his opinion. Notably, when the status of their relationship is up in the air, Wille gives Simon the time and space to figure things out, and when Simon comes to him, Wille barely says a word and allows Simon to speak his full truth, once again showing why he’s the better partner for Simon, beyond Simon simply liking him more - he actually listens to Simon and respects his opinions.

he thinks i'm psycho cause i like to rhyme his name with things
When Simon realizes he's been spelling Marcus's name wrong the entire time they've been dating, his friends come up with the only logical solution: to keep calling him different names until he loses it.
