Sometimes I forget just how terrible of a narrator Neil is. Like the only people that didn't catch onto Andrew's feeling were Neil and the audience. I wonder just how obvious Andrew was but we don't know about it because Neil is just so in his head about things he dismissed it

ANDREW ISN'T AN INNOCENT UWU SOFT BOI
He's always, always been just as bad as Ashley, he's just hidden it well.
Consider their mom, she has the same muted emotional responses and love to spin bullshit, low empathy and lack of moral responsibility to let her kids get away with murder and then to SELL HER OWN FLESH AND BLOOD KIDS.
Their mental disorders are hereditary and exacerbated by their environment, what is wrong with Ashley is wrong with Andrew.
Even as kids, he doesn't care so much that they killed Nina cause she died, he cares cause it's not "normal" and getting caught would get them separated and punished.
"They're going to take you away from me."
"If my life is already ruined, then there's no need to keep up appearances."
There are actually differences in how their mental and personality issues manifest in that Ashley doesn't understand masking or lying, what lies she does tell are blatantly twisting the truth or "true" from her own perspective.
Meanwhile, Andrew and their mom understand "keeping up appearances" and pretending to he "normal", so when he stops pretending to be scaredy cat wuss or moral, Ashley is confused and scared that he's changing, when what he's doing is letting his mask drop cause he trusts her and wants her to like him without pretending to be Andy :(
Burial Love is the route where he can stop pretending to be all the things he's not and just enjoy being around Ashley as a fellow amoral serial killer, lol 😆
Even Platonic Burial has him repressing his sisconnery, which is why he's not as playful or enjoying himself, he saw her choose the platonic door and left the vision and the bed, what he truly wanted was rejected, but she doesn't hate him or fear him, so he sticks around, cause all he's ever wanted was to be by her side anyway.
(That's why he's always chosen Ashley, over Nina, over Julia, over their parents, over what society has told him over and over that he should want.)
((Decay happens cause either Ashley doesn't trust him and that lack of trust tells him she will NEVER trust him or love him like he loves her, fueling his resentment OR his parents, mainly his mom, get him to drink his own Kool-Aid, believe his own hype and mask, cause it's easier for him to pretend he's a victim of evil horrible Ashley, especially with how she can act up and have episodes, than it is to accept that he is a bad person and can never and could never fit into the societal mold of Normal TM.))
Anyway, Andrew is murderous cannibal who sees everyone outside of Ashley as threats or disposable objects and has always had this view; his only two possibilities in game are to deny this and become an abusive asshole or accept it and follow his own actual desires instead of what he thinks he's "supposed" to want.

Kevin is the type of repressed queer in love with their best friend to have a conversation with someone where the other person is talking about their significant other and he just responds by talking about Andrew, and then when they inevitably get confused and think Kandrew are an official couple he goes no he’s just the most important person in the world to me and yes I (insert several extremely gay statements about Andrew and how he feels about him and acknowledging attraction there) but we are not a couple ofc, “It’s easier to remain heterosexual”. And then he doesn’t process or think anything of it until like months later when something randomly triggers the epiphany and it all clicks…

i feel like, when depicting Andrew, some people forget that the series ended with Andrew no longer denying that his relationship with Neil wasn’t “nothing”. It seems to be implied that Andrew begins to see him and Neil as a real couple by the final book, and i would like to see more of that incorporated into fanworks

Q: You [LGBT Consortium] exclude, don't you, people who wish to define LGB as same sex attraction?
[.. 🤡🤡🤡 ..]
A: Yes.
An organization pretending to support gay people discriminates, as a matter of policy, against same-sex attraction.
The new anti-gay.

A Comparison: Edgar Allen Poe's and his works to All for the Game
This is a dramatic and unnecessary comparison, one that I'm not entirely certain Nora did purposefully (though I remain hopeful), but nevertheless we have come to a conclusion.
An initial first look would instantly have me foaming at the mouth to mention that Edgar Allen Poe and Neil Josten (read - Nathaniel Wesninski) have the same birthday, alluding to the idea that Nathaniel had been and would always be intrinsically tied to Edgar Allen University, Riko, and the Ravens until Nathaniel is officially buried in baltimore and Neil is born legally in the FBI database and assuming a new birthday that is entirely his own, therefor cutting ties once and for all with Edgar Allen University and the trauma that it holds, in relation to both Riko and his Father. This is semi ironic as while Nathaniel died in baltimore and rose again as Neil ( “leave Nathaniel buried in baltimore” Andrew said,) Edgar Allen Poe also died in the same city under ‘mysterious circumstances,’ of which is where I like to think that Nora got her location inspiration, (both that and Baltimore having one of the highest rates of corrupt law enforcement, but that's neither here nor there.) These links only continue as Poe watched his mother die before living and being educated in numerous places around the US, England, and France, of which similarly seems to mirror Neil’s own childhood.
Edgar Allen Poe wrote his infamous ‘The Raven’ while in West Virginia, likely being the reason that Edgar Allen university is located there in All For The Game and the decision for the exy team to be titled The Ravens as a result, a particular point of interest as the contents of the ‘The Raven’ represent the madness someone descends into once their love is lost; this mimics the relationship between Riko and Kevin, with the formers sanity spiralling from his control once Kevin is lost, (with it also notable to point out that Riko and Kevin were originally written to be lovers, furthering this mirroring to the poem.) The symbolism for the Ravens represent a ‘bird of ill omen’ and seem to foreshadow the downfall of Poe's character as he was surrounded by them, as well as Rikos’ by being in the nest, with Poe also stating that the character is “distorted by his obsessive attachment.” Both Jean and Kevin escaping these ravens and having a promising ending reinforces this intention by Nora.
The idea of these Ravens that Poe writes about seem to also mirror Neil’s relationship to the nest, with the ravens in the poem coming to “Bellow for Revenge” on a “Drear-Nighted December.” A startling similarity to Riko forcing Neil to go to the nest over Christmas. The Nest being entirely painted black seems to also reference Poe’s poem in which the speaker enters the door into “darkness there and nothing more,” such as Neil would have done upon entering the Nest at the beginning of December, once again referenced almost directly as Jean tells Neil to look at the sky one final time as he wouldn’t see it again throughout Christmas.
This choice of a raven, in all, is chosen by Poe and seemingly Nora to symbolically represent the personification of death and the Narrator's impending fate, in this case being Neil’s knowledge that he will die by the hands of his father.
Edgar Allen Poe also coined the terms Evermore and Nevermore, with Evermore meaning that loss will always be apart of life, fitting as the characters in All For The Game all seem to go the Castle Evermore upon losing somebody and therefor unable to grieve, such as Jean losing his Family, Kevin loosing his mother, and even Riko losing his birth family, with only Kevin and Jean able to overcome that grief once leaving the Castle Evermore. Nevermore, however, means that one can never hold onto what they have, with the Narrator of Poe’s poem chanting the word once succumbing to madness from the loss of his partner, implicating the idea in All For The Game that no matter the circumstances, Riko never would have managed to keep Kevin in the long run, always ensuing the same fate.
I’m sure that there are mountains more connections that I’m yet to explore, with vague links to addiction regarding Andrew that even I know is a stretch at best, yet I see so little people talking about the random horrifying literature references sprinkled throughout the series that I had to do it myself. Sue me.

Neil: woah, woah, woah, woah you think I’m cute?
Andrew: no! I would never think you’re cute I just think you look like a person who is cute
Neil: 🤨🤨?

im so easy when it comes to immoral characters like okay do you bear your pain terribly? get behind me
#fandom is looking at a traumatised guy and going 'they deserved better'#but let me fucking TELL you if that guy goes on to let their trauma absolutely mutilate them then im gonna be there#bad victims etc etc#bear it terribly. bear it ugly and mean. bear it with your teeth stained by innocents that had nothing to do with the slaughter#let it make you worse. lash out. kick down. become the terrible thing#im defending that guy until the end of time#touya todoroki#andrew minyard#touya is the closest anyone has come to andrew in a very long time for me when it comes to this#like andrew is THEE baseline of this ive never seen anything like the way he does it#he was treated terribly and it made him terrible. shamelessly. he took the bad thing and decided to be worse for it#and while it's unsustainable in a person it's so fucking cathartic for a reader to just see that happening despite the tragedy of it#it's touya stood over his abuser and ripping his world apart with his bare hands while laughing#because he spent 10 years in hell for this moment. this single moment. and the audience and the characters call him a monster#it's andrew threatening his own cousin at knifepoint to defend a stranger's integrity simply because that is one of andrew's lines#and you do not cross them. no one ever will again. and the audience and the characters call him a monster#it's watching people who were treated awfully refuse to swallow that pain. refuse to forgive. refuse to move on#it's watching them embrace the wreckage of it and self-destruct either in one glorious explosion or gradually over years#because they are willingly choosing to live this way instead of getting over it. they are rejecting healing with their eyes open#because they were hurt so badly that healing now seems like a denial of that pain#and then u get to read fanfiction where they heal and are acknowledged for what they suffered and u cry and cry and cry <3

yk it's weird
I haven't really paid attention to the extra work written by Nora Sakavic other than what I found in fanfictions and tumblr
so when I see the mentions of how Andrew is a misogynist. It kinda throws me off. Cause see, I love Andrew. I will literally fight for that fictional made-up dude but I am someone who can't stand misogynists (which includes my own brother most days lmao)
I'll be honest I'm curious about it but I'm not gonna read the extra parts, cause tbh? I wanna protect this, he's not a real person and he can be imperfect. If according to the fandom (and me) Andrew's trauma can get better, Neil's trauma can get better, then so can Andrew's ideologies.
What makes it weird for me is the fact that when I see people bashing Andrew over it (a character I love but people are justified to bash since he's allegedly misogynistic) I wanna defend him.
And it makes me think am i defending the character I love or am I defending something wrong (like a bigoted Republican might)?
Anyway it's too deep of a theory for 4am but I feel like at the end of the day, I love Andrew Minyard despite knowing more than a few awful things he has done within canon (violence, drugging, wee-bit murder) but it's the idea that he becomes better in the future
Because he is 19 YEARS OLD, and no teenager is perfect, hell most humans aren't, but it's the idea that Andrew who has women like Bee and Renee in his life as a constant will someday become a better person.
I think what makes it weirder is that I never outright saw the misogyny in the canon itself. It could be wishful ignorance and me writing it off as "Andrew be raging" (insert the almost choking Allison-our queen- to death scene) but again I don't need people to prove he is misogynist. Cause it's a fictional character that can always get better.
