Jean felt safe enough with Jeremy to tell him he felt unsafe in that scenario, trusting that Jeremy wouldn’t take advantage of or ignore his fear, trusting that Jeremy would respect his boundaries. Do you think Jean has ever exercised a boundary in the past three years? I don’t think so. I think that every time he tried at first, Riko would use that knowledge to hurt him even more, to deliberately cross them. I think that the boy who expects everyone to hurt him, the boy who says “Contrition, coach,” the boy who insisted he could swim while having a panic attack next to the pool—I think that boy tries so hard not to have boundaries because it’s safer that way. Because no one can exploit them if they don’t know what they are.

Do you guys ever think about Kevin Day. About the number on his cheek. About the horrors he survived to keep it there. The physical and psychological torture that he endured just so he could have the shiny number 2 tattooed on his cheekbone. How brave he was to go through all that.

How brave he must have been to let it go.

To say: I’m giving up my number, the one I’ve dehumanized and killed myself over. I’m giving it up, but my suffering for it wasn’t in vain.

To realize that he didn’t deserve the number 2, not because he was no longer second best without the Ravens, but because he had always been better than all of them.

He was the deadliest piece on the board.

So those are my thoughts after talking to some of friends and people whose opinions I enjoy about sunshine court

Aka Riko simp telling other Riko simps why sunshine court is not bad in the way they say

Rikos abuse in the sunshine court is clearly outlined and not hidden. JEAN IS VERY DIRECT about stating that riko was beaten by Tetsuji for hurting him and that riko was taking out his anger for being hurt by Tetusuji on the team. Some lines in TSC are directly picked from rikos parts of extra content- parts most people in this fandom deemed not canon.

This is very good.

The complains I read multiple times by now is that the book envokes sympathy to everyone even jean's sister wchih we never meet but not riko.

And Good. Because the burden of understanding that riko is not just disney villain is on a reader. This is book with adult themes and expected to be consumed by adult people.

More so the tragedy of Rikos story is that there exists no character In the narrative that really gave fuck. I expected Kevin to be a bridge between audience and riko but even this ended up being burned.

Riko was abuser and cause of pain and hurt to all of the characters in the narrative none of them feels empathy for him and so none of them will show it to us.

This is not bad writting or bad design this is staying true to character's feelings and shoving extend of their pain. Trying to force empathy just for the case of understanding would be tacky and people would label it as "redemption"(no it would be not redemption but we already had this convo many times).
