a/n: i was talking to some friends about how badly jjba characters could fuck up our box braids. i'm gonna do multiple of these, but for now i'm just gonna do the first 3 jojos/bros. there's a lot of parts so I wanna split them equally- the next one will be part 4, 5, and 6 (maybe 7). hope you enjoy! also ty for over 50 likes on my first post! mwah mwah mwah

Part 1 Jonathan Joestar

Very gentle with your hair. Despite his size, he tries to treat you (and thankfully your hair) as if it might break at any moment. Unfortunately, this means he isn't very willing to actually detangle it.

"Jonathan, please. I need you to actually comb the tangles out of my hair or we'll never be finished."

"I know, my love. I'm sorry. But it might hurt..." "You can be insufferable at times, darling."

Eventually leaves you to detangle your hair by himself so he can do the braiding part, which goes WAY faster. He's quite skilled with his fingers. Makes your braids gorgeous and even adds in crystals and little accessories to spice it up. Overall, 8/10!

Robert E.O. Speedwagon

Very confused. Did you say twists or braids? What's the difference? How do you know? Where did these hairstyles even come from? No matter. Despite his confusion, he's determined to help you out. He's good with detangling and decent with braiding, but decides twisting is the easier way out. It takes him a bit of time to do it though.

"Are you almost done with that twist, darling?" You mumble, exasperated. "Yes dear, just give me a second- oh, that doesn't go that way- sorry, dear-" You giggle as he struggles to finish a single twist, still having half of your hair to finish.

Finally finishes your hair after many, MANY hours. At least he made your hair cute, though. Buys you charms and hair ties so you can style your twists. 7.5/10 for Speedwagon!

Part 2 Joseph Joestar

No idea what he's doing. Tugs, knots, and pulls at your hair accidentally as he simply tries to put it into passion twists. The extensions made it even more difficult as he fumbled with them, trying to make them mesh into your hair seamlessly as you always had. Still very confused.

"Joseph, what the actual fuck are you doing?"

"I DON'T KNOW!" "You better figure it out, Jojo. Please. Do you need a little help?" "For the last time, dollface, I don't need any help. 'M Joseph f'ing Joestar. I can figure this out," He mumbles as he continues to struggle and stress your hair.

When he's done, you look like you got jumped. You give him a kiss and a pat on the back. He tried his best. You secretly take the twists he did out and put your own in overnight, then tell him the twists simply settled last night.

"Huh! Guess I'm not so bad, eh?"

You sigh, then give him a sweet smile. "No, sweetheart. Not at all."

Overall, 4/10. He tried his best, but unfortunately his best was not enough.

Caesar A. Zeppeli

Shocks you with how skillful he is. Even adds in color to your passion twists! Blonde, of course, so you can match with him. Works efficiently and without struggle, but leaves the ends of your twists looking kind of funny.

"Why do the ends of the twists look like that?" "Like what?" Caesar stops and looks at a twist. "Ah. I wasn't exactly sure how to end them. Mi dispiace, amore." Oh well. It wasn't all that bad. And besides, whenever he calls you amore, you can't stay mad at him.

"No worries, darling. I'll fix them later."

Helps you fix the ends of your twists and gives you a pearl necklace to go with the finished look. Overall, 9.5/10!

Part 3

Jotaro Kujo

Very grumpy. Almost says no when you ask him to help you with your hair because he thought it'd be too difficult (and he was kind of right), but you assured him he'd be fine and you'd guide him through the steps of the hairstyle.

"...What did you say this hairstyle was called?" "Goddess braids! They're like box braids, but you have to crochet water wave extensions through the top of the braid." You show him a photo of the hairstyle and he damn near faints.

"...Yare yare. Why do you have to choose such complicated styles?"

"One thing I won't do is hear complaints from a man who didn't wash his hair for 50 days. Better start detangliinggggg..."

He sighs, chuckling a bit, then begins to do your hair.

Finishes relatively quickly and gives you the color of your choice. Buys you an extra large bonnet to keep the curls from getting too frizzy and gives you some silver and gold charms that match some of the charms on his hat. The braids could be better but for his first time doing braids they're pretty good. Overall, 7.5/10, especially for his patience! (still looks irritated about the amount of time it took though)

Kakyoin Noriaki

Very good with washing, detangling, and parting your hair. He does feel stuck about how many braids he has to do or how fast he has to do them. You simply tell him to take his time (but not too much time) and that you can tell him what to do.

"Okay, I'm starting the braids now."

"You said that 10 minutes ago."

"..." "I mean it this time."

Slightly hesitant about actually starting your hair, but he makes it work. Asks if you want to do light pink to match with him and gives you cherry-shaped charms. Also adds pink, red, and white beads to the ends of your braids because he saw someone do that once and thought they'd look cute on you. Overall, 8/10. The braids are pretty and he didn't take too long at all.

Looking in the mirror, you gasp as you look at your gorgeous new braids. "Oh my goshhh, Kakyoin. Have you done this before? You aren't walking around wearing box braids, right? These are so cute!"

He smiles, giving you a quick peck on the cheek. "I tried my best. I'm glad you like them."

I just fucking adore characters who are foils in general but the raw tragedy of Blaze and FrostNova's stories combined with the way both their Arts work is so....fucking...good....

Both of them are incredibly passionate to a fault, and to the point where they are willing to put their own health in danger with their Arts in order to achieve their goals and fight for what they believe in, including holding themselves back to protect their comrades from their own power. They both seem to have honestly very similar ideologies when it comes to Oripathy, harboring an intense distrust for non-Infected out of defense, while begrudgingly acknowledging that the world superpowers are really the ones stoking the common people's fear of the Infected for their own gains.

It's obviously unclear to me right now as of Chapter 6 how unique FrostNova's condition was, but I definitely feel it is at least implied that her body being too cold to even safely touch is a result of advanced and severe initial onset Oripathy (we know for sure that "Oripathy created this body of mine"), with the Arts obviously brought on and magnified by the traumatic situation they first awoke during.

Blaze's abilities are incredibly strong as well, and she also can use her own body as fuel for her fire by burning up her blood...but her condition is far more stable, and it's clear from her operator file that this is primarily because of Rhodes Island's medical technology and expertise. I don't know as of yet exactly how she ended up at Rhodes Island and her own past with being subject to violence (it's definitely clear that the massive chip on her shoulder is fucking justified, and that her own experiences probably reflect that), but I think it's very safe to say that she now has actual support and safety that FrostNova simply never got the chance to have.

Blaze's ability to manage her own Oripathy and Arts, and FrostNova's only spiraling into hurting herself more and more, to the point of no return, is not inherent to themselves. It's a result of the situations they were put in, and the support they got, and the opportunities or lack thereof to find a different path and to be shown mercy.

Blaze is absolutely determined to save FrostNova...and she fails, because she, and Rhodes Island, are simply too late to give FrostNova the path she could have taken - and it's after her death that Blaze admits she respects her beyond anyone else she has thus far.

She doesn't care about the level of power FrostNova can wield, simply her sheer force of will.

It's so fucking sad to think of how well they would have meshed as friends, in a different life, or if FrostNova had survived and was able to find a better path with Rhodes Island.

The Thornes Ranked By Suspicion Level #2

I need an excuse to not do my homework yet, and some major shit is going down in Crimes of Passion. So here I am, once again ranking every Thorne + Duchess Eveline by how suspicious I am of them being the murderer, or at least directly involved somehow.

BIIIIG Disclaimer: This ranking list WILL have spoilers for chapter 13’s summary. If you have not seen chapter 13’s summary and don’t wish to have anything spoiled, LOOK AWAY NOW.

Suspicion Level: ☠️

12. Sebastyan. As revealed in the chapter 13 summary, Sebastyan, who was our prime suspect, is murdered. And given that chapter 12 takes place at Marguerite's fashion show, Sebastyan is likely murdered at her show. Now, I DO still believe there are two murderers, or at the very least, a murderer and a right-hand, but I honestly don't think Sebastyan was one of them.

Suspicion Level: None

11. Trystan. Once again, Trystan is not the type to murder.

10. King Maksim. I still feel like Maksim is going to end up murdered, maybe much later in the book, and saving his life is determinant (sort of like when Marguerite was kidnapped and she could potentially lose a finger if we performed poorly). Generally, Maksim seems very lost in the sauce as chaos runs rampant around him.

Suspicion Level: Low

9. Emika. Emika and their brother honestly don't strike me as murderers, just a couple of edgy twentysomethings who never mentally outgrew their teenage years.

8. Kaspar. Same as Emika, but more unhinged, and more of an idiot.

7. Marguerite. Marguerite, at this point, will have had two murders take place on the night of her fashion shows in Drakovia. This is a little suspicious, but given that she and Sebastyan still loved each other deeply despite the barrier between them, I really don't think she's the culprit. Still, Olivia did tell us to be wary of anyone who was nice to us, and Marguerite is the only Thorne who is actively nice to our crew rather than antagonistic or simply polite but indifferent. My suspicions of her aren't completely gone, but they've dissipated quite a bit. She is, however, guilty of a terrible fashion sense, and though Sebastyan might have been murdered, the true victim is the MC.

Suspicion Level: Medium

6. Lydea. I will admit my suspicions of Lydea, while initially low, skyrocketed when we found out that she's allegedly unexpressive and supposedly neutral regarding the Heir Act. I became even more wary when it was revealed that she was close to Vasili and Sebastyan.

5. Vasili. As of the latest few chapters, Vasili seems to appear out of nowhere, and I'm not gonna lie, under normal circumstances, my alarms would be going the fuck off. However, some part of me still just doesn't think it's him. He's not nice to our crew, nor is he openly antagonistic: he's as polite as decorum requires. That, and he and Sebastyan were apparently close enough that he accompanied the latter at his debate. It just seems too easy to suspect him, kind of like it was easy to suspect Sebastyan.

Suspicion Level: High

4. Patryk. What does this motherfucker even do? He's shady as hell and he tried to poison the main character just for internet clout so we know he's unhinged. I'm still going with my theory that he's either completely clean or he's the killer's right hand man. I also believe he's Queen Viktoria's suspected love child.

3. Duchess Eveline. I honestly don't even know what to make of her at this point. I strongly, strongly doubt she killed Sebastyan (she was actually worried his position on the Heir Act would make him a target at court), but as I said, I still think there are two murderers here. I feel as though she has something to gain from the deaths of those invested in the Heir Act, something that directly foils whatever the Queen may gain, but what?

Suspicion Level: WEEWOOWEEWOOWEEWOO 🚨

2. Queen Viktoria. Between the suspected love child, the swift and deliberate shutdown of Juliana's death investigation, and her growing impatience with the main character's own investigation, I have no doubt in my mind that Queen Viktoria is either directly or indirectly involved in one or more murders. I do believe, however, that her motives and the hypothetical second murderer's motives don't align at all.

1. Astrid. While it's been heavily implied (not outright confirmed) that Sebastyan and Juliana were romantically involved, I have an inkling that she may have been romantically involved with Astrid, too. Her immediate attempt to shift the attention of the main character and Trystan to Sebastyan basically right before he's murdered is a HUGE red flag, especially since she cited evidence she consciously chose not to share the night of Nadja's murder. It's also worth noting that, while Juliana and Sebastyan's relationship is still NOT confirmed, there was a locket inside his work desk inscribed 'To my love'. It never says WHO this 'love' is, and given Astrid's sudden haste to draw attention to Sebastyan, I could totally see her having had it planted in his desk. Additionally, in a flashback the night of the murder, her boyfriend calls her his beautiful songbird. What did Juliana have in her possession? A bird whistle. And what got Juliana's attention on the yacht that lured her to her death? A bird call.

Well the posted fic is a Berserk fic, but I have various other wips that I pick away at when I'm bored. Among them include Eyeshield 21, MDZS, RotE, Harry Potter (technically?). Those are the most recent ones anyway.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

Chain of Dissent, she's my favorite fic <3 (she's my only fic)

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yeah I try to! Though I'll admit uhhhh I haven't updated it in... fucking? two years? god, and so I've been bad about responding to the more recent comments because I feel guilty for not updating in so long :') Really gotta get back to it.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

None, because I haven't finished a fic yet lol

Not so far! I've gotten a couple of comments that come across as unintentionally mildly rude, but definitely nothing that constitutes as hate.

Well not so far in CoD, but, ahem, I have written smut in one of my wips lol. Deeply self indulgent but I guess character driven? It's mildly nasty and desperate <3

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't actually written a crossover (yet. well, recently) but they are a bit of a passion of mine lmao. I love ridiculous crossovers, and I'm talking about "a magical portal opens up and throws characters from fandom A into the world (& characters) of fandom B" type shit. I don't need the ways in which the characters interact to make sense, I just want them to be thrown together and see where it goes from there. Fish out of water shenanigans! Characters questioning their own motivations and idea of life by seeing a world entirely different from theirs!! Just like, fun shit! I also absolutely don't need for the two fandoms to be similar lol. I have a somewhat detailed Berserk/Eyeshield 21 crossover living rent free in my head so clearly anything goes.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

I'll probably have to say GriffGuts, because it's a ship that's gripped me by the neck for the past 7 years or something, where my interest in it hasn't really waned.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Uhhhh, idk? I mean I am DETERMINED to finish CoD, so that's out. And the wips I write in my spare time are just like, things I do for fun where I don't put any pressure on myself over it. I'm not planning on posting them anywhere, and I'm not generally planning on 'finishing' them either. I mean if I do finish one, I might post it, but again, they're low key things that I'm not taking too seriously.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hm. I honestly don't consider myself a very strong writer, at least in terms of things like prose and sentence structure, grammar, that sort of thing. I think I'm pretty decent at figuring out the direction that I want the story to go, and all the individual steps that need to happen to get to that point in a way that feels organic (at least, imo.) And I like to think I'm pretty good at characterization-- having the characters behaving and reacting in ways that feel like could concievably happen in canon is generally what I'm going for.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Yeah prose, lol. I mean, I don't actually dislike my more.... utilitarian writing style, mainly because I generally prefer reading more direct writing (unless the lyrical writing is really really good), but I do think I could inject some more illustrative details and metaphors into my writing overall. @marley-manson is SO good at coming up with perfect metaphors to describe a situation or feeling, all while perfectly recreating the character's voice, and I really admire that about her writing!

I also want to get better with having characters like, doing things while they're talking. I find a lot of the conversations I write happen between characters just kind of standing around, which obviously is fine but I'd like to construct scenes with a bit more specificity in the future.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Wait so like, say in a fic that is otherwise written in English, having a line of dialogue written in Spanish when a character is speaking it? I... don't have strong feelings about it one way or the other I guess lol. I mean ideally the line(s) written in the other language are correct lol, and not just badly google translated or something.

Though you know, now that I think about it, I feel like it would work best between languages that use the same alphabet (which does end up narrowing the possible languages down quite a lot) because that way the reader can still sound out the dialogue even if the don't understand the language, which could emulate what the pov character is experiencing. Whereas if it was a fic written in English, and then had a line written in, say, Japanese, the reader wouldn't even be able to sound it out so it's kind of a brick wall. (Unless there's footnotes, but that tends to be a little more clunky in fic than in a published book with pages).

If the readers are supposed to understand the dialogue written in another language, like two characters suddenly start speaking in said other language and we're meant to keep up with the conversation, then I feel like it's just easier to translate their words in whatever language the fic is written in otherwise.

But yeah idk, I think with intent and good execution, anything can work, but it could also be done in a way that's more annoying than anything.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I think. It was neopets LMFAO. I remember writing a fic when I was like 10 about Hannah (the adventurer) and Jacques (from the maraqua plot comic) as a romantic couple because I was annoyed at the time that there were multiple fics about Hannah and Garin (or whatever his name was, also from the maraqua plot) getting together even though I thought Garin was BORING and they were just shipped together because they were both usuls (which are overrated imho), even though Jacque was obviously better.

... I may have had a crush on Jacques.

But the first fic that I think I posted anywhere was for Xiaolin Showdown lmfao, probably also when I was 10 or 11 or something. I wrote like four separate fics for that show.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Yeah it's CoD lol. It's the longest thing I've written so far, and I'm overall still very proud of it. I'd probably go back and change some things in the first chapter because it reads a little clunky and like, abrupt to me now, but I'm not doing that until I finish the fic. Allowing myself to go back and edit stuff before I've even finished the story seems like a road to ruin lol.

Weekly Book Recs: 9/29-10/6

Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

I read The Love Hypothesis, enjoyed it, and didn't read another Ali Hazelwood book until now. Not because I have anything against her work; contemporary books just aren't often my main priority, and when they are, I tend to learn towards more erotic contemporaries. But this was lovely! It felt weirdly cozy, which is what I needed, I loved the way Hazelwood dealt with both the issues in academia and the heroine's diabetes, and the hero was... quite hot. Like, a stern nerd who went down on her while she was watching Twilight because he needed to "amuse himself". Which, I gotta say? Is kinda the dream. She lived the fantasy. I feel like Hazelwood is often framed as this "spicier Emily Henry" thing, and while her books are definitely hotter than Henry's, they're very much their own thing. And I personally find her messy approach (with Big Fucking Guys) a lot more appealing.

The Many Sins of Lord Cameron by Jennifer Ashley

Sometimes I forget how good a historical romance can be--like, not just fun, but a special kind of good that makes me feel warm and happy and comforted but also amused and entertained and emotional. I love the first two books in this series, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie and Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage; and I also love this installment, about a rakish Scot who's actually a horse girl/Single Dad Trying His Best and a seemingly innocent (but seriously complex) widow with a penchant for theft. It's passionate, it's fun (God bless the scene where Ainsley just begins jacking Cameron off at the opera while he presses his head into his hands to hide how badly he is losing his miiind) and it takes some turns I didn't expect. It's more character than plot, and it does that very well. Heads up before reading: there are fairly explicit discussions of previous domestic violence and sexual assault (not against the heroine). The book actually takes a pretty different approach to this than... any historical I've read.

Hollow by C.M. Nascosta

Perfect for spooky season, this is essentially a novella-length bind-up of two short stories revolving around Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman. The second story is a bit more of a conventional retelling, leaning on the romance side, with Katrina Van Tassel caught between Brom Bones and ol' Headless. It's a bit Gothic, a bit dark, and fairly spooky (and sexy). The first story is an erotica short about Ichabod Crane being spit roasted by two headless horsemen (one of which is named Brom Bones--different one) in a locker room. Yes, the heads are carried around separately. Yes, they are used. And while I enjoyed both--I would be lying if I told you my favorite wasn't... the locker room one.

The Duke's Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley

Perhaps my favorite historical romance in quite a while--this one just blew me away. You spend the previous three novels on Hart Mackenzie's younger brothers; he's an overprotective, domineering force in their life, determined to control the world. Here, you see him completely thrown off guard when his former fiancee and first love, Eleanor, returns to his life (not because she wants to get back together, but because someone is sending her Hart's old nudes). It's passionate, it's angsty, you have a perfect "alpha hero and the woman who sees straight through him" dynamic. Eleanor fucking owns this man, and she does so with a smile and a crook of her finger. There's also a lot of intense emotion and melancholy, a strong sense of loss and misspent youth. And like. Passion. It's really fucking good, basically, and I enjoyed everything about it.

A - Aodh'a Nbolo

One of my miqo'te boys! A kind of reserved, blunt, and grumpy conjurer who runs a clinic in Gridania where he treats people at little to no cost. He is a deeply caring person who is extremely bad at expressing himself and full of anxiety bees. Also has like four kids now (three he gave birth to, one he adopted as his own that's the daughter of his mate/partner by another mother) and the youngest two are twins and he is so tired all the fucking time for real.

E - Eyes

Not much to say because it's an OC I had when I was like 14 that I mostly just drew art of. I don't think there was anything I ever really like... did with him outside of that? He started with silver hair but I ended up making it bright blue later. I think he was blind maybe and the name was ironic??

J - Josef Hamilton

Dumb werewolf whose twin sister was a vampire, and he was pretty relentlessly cruel to her about that. Also just depraved bisexual vibes. I don't remember much beyond that about either of them, except that his sister was married to a rockstar AND had a girlfriend/wife (not legally married) and I think Josef was kind of pissed she got to be happy with her partners and their shared children.

K - Kaenea Dawnstar

6. How does your Dark Urge react to waking up with memory loss?

Jack wakes up with no memory and kind of not a lot of personality to start, which is eerie to the people he meets because he just seems so emotionally detached from everything around him. (He snaps out of it later and starts to kind of revert to some of his more benign tendencies pre-tadpole.) Overall he actually reacts quite calmly, but that's probably more to do with shock and the whole like... we're gunna crash if we don't do something about this ship crashing thing. Practicality.

He does spend a lot of time muttering "my name is Jack" to himself over and over again in some effort to like... make sure he doesn't lose the one piece of himself he remembers. This is also kind of weird to everyone he meets, before they realize what's up.

13. How does your Dark Urge feel about killing?

Pre-tadpole? He's good at it, but for him it's more practical and clinical than something he takes joy in. He kills for his father's approval, not because he enjoys the act of killing anyone. Post-tadpole, the ease with which he kills people (and doing while not in control of himself) is something that deeply frightens him, to the point that he actively avoids doing so if he doesn't have to.

22. What first impression does your Dark Urge give off to strangers?

"Sad wet cat man. Are we sure he's the Chosen of Bhaal? I mean look at him, he's got anxiety and he keeps clutching the pale one like a fucking freak."

on OUAT season 6 finale

One thing that still baffles me to this day is how OUAT’s season 6 finale managed to be so astoundingly nonsensical and just an absolute dumpster fire all around. This is where I complain about bad writing and wasted potential of a dead show🤗

Mostly it’s two things…

1) What really bugs me is that they set up a plotline with Killian and David climbing the beanstalk, that made some sense at first and was actually the most solid plan… only to throw it away and have it come to a ridiculous dead end. The absolute lack of effort to make things make sense this show sometimes exhibited istg. What upsets me the most is how nonsensical it was that they didn’t end up using the bean and how the writers bent over backwards to not let it happen. 

Killian and David climb the beanstalk, Killian gives a little stressed out passionate speech about wanting to go back to his wifey and I love all of that. But then they set things up for the story to continue in an organic way, they set up a possible exciting Captain Swan/Captain Cobra plotline where Killian gets to Storybrooke and… don’t use it? What was the point of having Killian fall dramatically from the beanstalk if he wasn’t going to use the bean at the last moment to survive and go help Henry convince Emma that they were all real? It was the perfect opportunity! How is it possible that that wasn’t how that episode went? How was that obviously, objectively not the best continuation of that plotline? So much Captain Swan and Captain Cobra potential wasted. What they did instead was so unsatisfying. Can someone please explain to me why they had Killian fall down and than he was just… fine. Somehow he fell on his back from skyscraper height but didn’t break his spine or become a greasy stain and a pile of shattered bones? What was the point of that? Were the writers trying to embarrass themselves? They set up a good plot and replaced it with infuriating nonsense instead. It’s like they completely gave up on not only the laws of physics, but also satisfying narratives.

And even then, when Killian miraculously shrugs off that unbelievable fall like it was nothing (why did that happen in the first place if it wasn’t going to mean anything at all?), even then he still doesn’t use the bean! Snow tells him to go to Emma and he walks all the way to Regina’s castle for some reason (there is no reason, it doesn’t make sense), and by then they’re like “oops, actually the bean doesn’t work now. nothing means anything and no character gets to be useful🤷‍♀️” ??? 

What annoys me is not that it didn’t work, but that it had every reason to work and yet the writers shot themselves in the foot and created ridiculous reasons for the bean plan to fail. They made extra effort to make it nonsensical. Ugh.

2) It’s really a problem when the whole premise of the episodes is utter bullshit. Am I the only one that hates what the concept of the “final battle” turned out to be? Again, please explain to me how the sole determinant of the very existence of numerous entire realms was the personal belief of a single person, Savior or not. How was the existence of something so vast and so much older than her dependent on Emma’s belief in it, especially when she had erased memories and was being gaslighted into thinking she was mentally ill? Those realms had existed just fine for probably thousands of years before she was even born. And suddenly her disbelief turns them into nothingness? Even realms of which she is not the Savior (like Agrabah, that had Aladdin, not Emma) and that have nothing to do with her, like Oz for example. I guess somehow the curse made it possible? Because fuck any rules and restrictions, magic can do anything and everything, right? Except when your magic system gets overpowered like that, it can be really hard for the viewer/reader to swallow.  Dare I say half-assed worldbuilding?

It makes me want to rewrite at least the last episode and unfold the wasted, obvious storyline that got thrown out of the window for some stupid reason.

Eren and Levi is my all-time favorite ship. These two mean the world to me. And while I am not under any illusion that their relationship is canon, they’re canon in my heart and I want to share with you all the many different reasons why they’re so fucking shippable. Here are my 41 reasons 😊

1. Similarities in their past -- both willing to kill for the ones they love

Eren saves Mikasa by killing two men when he’s just a kid

Levi was trained to kill at a young age. It’s implied that he killed the people that hurt his dear friend Isabel in ACWNR

2. Momma’s boys -- definitely a parallel between them in these two shots.

3. Both had to watch their mom die and understand the pain of losing the people they love

4. Parallels between Levi, Isabel, and Farlan, and Eren, Mikasa, and Armin -- both are looking up at the stars and dreaming of something more

5. Eren has always admired Captain Levi. Just look how stars truck he is 🤩

6.The first time he meets Levi, he sees the Wings of Freedom on his back. The framing of this shot shows that Levi represents freedom for Eren

7. Levi is intrigued and impressed by the fire/determination when he first meets Eren. He is a spark of hope for Levi.

8. Despite many people claiming this scene is ‘abusive’ it is far from it. While it is brutal in nature, Levi’s aggressive display was the only way for him to save Eren from being handed over to the MP. Erwin knew that Levi would need to show the courtroom that he was strong enough to ‘handle’ Eren in order for the MP to give Eren over to the SC. 

It’s even explained to Eren after the fact that it was a necessary show of power in order to save him. 

It wasn’t something Levi wanted to do -- it’s clear he feels bad about how he handled Eren by asking him if he resented him. 

Despite everything, Eren understands why Levi had to do what he did and admits to not being resentful towards Levi, who ultimately appears relieved by that admission

9. They catch each other staring/giving each other eyes 😏 showing that they have an innate interest in each other

10. Eren is surprised that Captain Levi is so keen to following orders from the higher ups. When Petra tells him about his past, he’s shocked and wonders why Levi would join be in the Survey Corps. Eren definitely shows interest and curiosity in this scene and appears to want to know more about his mysterious Captain

11. They’re super cute together 🥺 Just look at theeeem

12. Levi is caught smirking at Eren when talking about him being creepy. Okay buddy 😏 

13. Levi sees that Eren is a monster and still accepts him anyway. He doesn’t judge or condemn him for being the way that he is. In the visual novel “Burning Bright in the Forest of the Night”, Levi even refers to him as “a beautiful monster”

14. He always gives Eren a choice, allowing him to make his own decisions, and be his own person. He’s only ever encouraged Eren to be true to himself. He’s never tried to change him

Even when Eren is struggling with accessing his father’s memories and Hange is bombarding him with questions, Levi defends his strange behavior

Every 2022 Choices Release – Rated on a scale of 1-10

Several people have said that 2022 has been the best year for Choices since 2018. And…as sad as that is, it’s pretty true. Like 2020, 2022’s releases had high highs and low lows. As I’ve said once before, the good books were awesome and the bad ones were really, really, REALLY bad. This post is going to be covering every 2022 book release and rating them on a scale of 1-10 because I haven’t done that on this blog and felt like spicing things up. It’s the new year, bitches!

 Quick disclaimer: to qualify for this list, a book must have been initially released to wide audiences (non-VIPs) in 2022, because we don’t do that VIP shit here. So, for example, Wake the Dead was released on December 29, 2021, so it doesn’t qualify for this list even though it ended in 2022. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.

Ms. Match: January 28, 2022 – April 29, 2022

Ms. Match’s story itself was not terrible, but the general skeleton of the plot is super overdone. I am sick to death of the plots centered around rising to the top of the competition and blowing everyone else away, and that’s pretty much exactly what Ms. Match does. The idea behind it is cute, though: we join a matchmaking company and compete in matchmaking contests and challenges to determine who the next CEO will be. My biggest complaint is that the love interest is…not great. The Rival Matchmaker is far from the worst love interest, but my god, they’re so cocky, full of themselves, and overall annoying as hell, not to mention totally uninteresting. Quite frankly? The cutest couple in the book, as unexpected as it was for me, was Veronica and our character’s dad. 4/10, not a terrible book, but it was a chore to play through at times.

Surrender book 1: February 11, 2022 – June 10, 2022

There are a lot of bad books in Choices, but Surrender is definitely one of the worst. We play as a vulnerable divorce-seeking woman whose spouse has cheated on her, which got her into BDSM. As soon as I saw that that was going to be the plot, it was all over. It was not a great look for the BDSM community, which is already stigmatized enough as is. But it gets worse. Our love interest is Reagan Thorne, our billionaire lawyer who’s also into BDSM and agrees to dom for the MC and teach her about BDSM even though she’s a client, which already introduces an imbalance of power. Barring the shitty plot, terrible love interest, and horrible misrepresentations of BDSM, the dialogue is all sorts of fucked in the book. Reagan utters some of the cringiest lines in the entire app and calls us such embarrassingly bad nicknames like…ugh, little lamb. 1/10, horrible book, horrible story, horrible love interest, horrible everything. Some of the outfits were cute. That’s it.

Crimes of Passion book 1: April 6, 2022 – July 20, 2022

Crimes of Passion is one of the best books we’ve seen in a while. Sort of like Most Wanted, it has us teaming up with a love interest (in this case, Trystan Thorne) to investigate and stop a string of murders tied to a serial killer. Unlike Most Wanted, however, the murders in this book are much, MUCH grislier and more visceral, and are tied to a cult as we come to find out. The plot was very gripping and every clue we uncovered was exhilarating. I cared about pretty much all of our friends/coworkers: Mafalda, Ruby, Luke, and Trystan. I wasn’t totally sold on Trystan as a love interest, though, and I’m still not. 9/10, really good story, crazy fucking shit, love it. One point off for Trystan because I’m not really into the whole cocky/flirty and stubborn partner pairing, and I think we should’ve been able to romance Ruby and Luke.

Untameable book 1: April 15, 2022 – August 5, 2022

We return from college to help out on the family ranch which has been barely kept afloat by our controlling misogynist of a brother. We spend the whole book sneaking around with Kit Jackson, our bland-ass cowboy/cowgirl love interest because we don’t want to upset our brother. The ranch is on the brink of failure and we also have to deal with that too, but we’ve already had this same plot a whole bunch in other books, so it’s not super noteworthy. That’s it, that’s the book. 1.5/10, no interesting characters, plot is uninspired, dialogue is SUPER cringey, and goddamn it, stop reusing cowboy shit, PB! You’re never going to make it happen!

The Princess Swap: May 13, 2022 - September 2, 2022

The premise of this story is that our character studies abroad for a semester in the kingdom of Monterre, where she accidentally stumbles upon another girl, the princess, who looks just like her. Spoiler alert: they’re twin sisters and don’t know it until much later in the book. The two switch places The Prince and the Pauper style: the princess takes on the role of college student and sorority girl while our character takes on the role of princess. Both grapple with challenges unique to each other’s lives and navigate them as best they can. Yes, the story was cheesy as hell, but you know what? It was a really pleasant read. I liked Devin all right, but only as a friend for the princess, and I didn’t care for Clarke at all. Otherwise, The Princess Swap was a lighthearted, feel-good book. 6.5/10, by no means is this book amazing, but I’m a sucker for princess stories, and like I said, the book was pretty light and enjoyable.

The Cursed Heart book 1: June 8, 2022 – September 14, 2022

Let me preface this by saying that I did not like Kieran at all. They were ugly, creepy, and possessive, and yes, I’m aware they eventually change for the better, but they really left a bad taste in my mouth. The plot was centered around us being claimed by Kieran and eventually trying to find their missing heart pieces to cure them of their beastly form and general hollowness. That being said, I love the rest of the book. The outfits, backgrounds, character designs, and music are all gorgeous. No joke, The Cursed Heart, in my opinion, is the most aesthetically beautiful book in the app. Not to mention, we meet Leaf, who is absolutely precious. 5.5/10, the rating would be MUCH higher, but Kieran really takes away from the book since the plot is centered entirely around them.

The Nanny Affair book 3: June 24, 2022 – November 4, 2022

The only good things about this book were Carter, the twins, and the fact that this was the last book in this wretched series. We deal with Sam’s former wife coming back from the dead and contend with forced, trashy interpersonal conflict with her while we plan our wedding. Sam and the MC’s relationship continues to be toxic as hell, unpleasant to watch, and impossible to root for. Even worse, Jenny and Aditya start their own affair because Sam and the MC have enabled them, and unsurprisingly, we’re forced to continue enabling them. I can’t even do the horrid quality of this book justice so I’m not even going to try. 0/10, yes I know it’s a 1-10 rating list but fuck it, this book is just that bad. As I said, the only redeeming qualities of the book are Carter and the twins, but not even they can get this book any points. Speaking from experience, falling into a hole is more fulfilling than engaging with this content. This book and series as a whole are so transcendently bad that if they were an actual real-life book, it would be a Worstseller, and I’m so happy this two-year-long nightmare is finally over.

Immortal Desires book 1: July 6, 2022 – October 12, 2022

Immortal Desires is kind of a weird one for me. On one hand, the beginning to early middle is so slow and such a huge chore to play through, but on the other hand, the rest of the book plus Gabe and Cas are so awesome. The premise of a vampire serial killer and cult is honestly kinda metal as fuck, but Gabe and Cas are where the book REALLY shines. They’re each other’s perfect foils and I love interacting with them and seeing them interact with each other. Plus, my parrot loves M!Gabe. And, full disclosure, Gabe and Cas were the only love interests I actively wanted to pursue since Tom Sato from It Lives Beneath. 8.5/10, the story’s pacing was kind of fucked but Gabe and Cas are priceless.

Slow Burn: August 19, 2022 – November 25, 2022

Not much to say about this one. Generic and repetitive contest/competition plot, bland MC, uncompelling Big Bad. I didn’t care about Julian/Julia, and Everett/Yvette had absolutely ZERO chill and always got on my nerves. 3/10, super boring and uninspired, Chef Flynt Stop Losing Your Fucking Temper Challenge 2022.

Murder at Homecoming: September 14, 2022 – December 21, 2022

This one really got my attention when it was announced: our character investigates a murder at homecoming, but I bet you couldn’t guess that from the title. Our character is sort of a busybody and they’re absolutely not perfect in any way, but I truly do think they’re the best MC we’ve gotten in a very, very, VERY long time. Also, they’re named after Valentine from The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and I am a shameless sucker for Shakespeare. I also like all the love interests, and I love the non-binary rep we got. The love story between Gabbie Navarro and Joanna Morgan was incredibly tragic and really made me stop and think for a while. But unfortunately, as is the case with most modern Choices books, the ending was very…lackluster, to say the least. 8/10, I love a good murder mystery and the high school setting actually made it considerably more interesting. The ending was a letdown, though.

Laws of Attraction book 2: September 30, 2022 – present

I was originally very worried about this book, because the cliffhanger at the end of book one made it seem like it was going to be an us vs. Martin book. In a way, it is, but Pixelberry really threw us a curveball when we, Aislinn, and Gabe left McGraw-Byrne and formed our own firm. We spend the book uncovering a conservatorship conspiracy which runs all the way up to the mayoral candidate of New York City. I’ve always loved the MC, and they only get better in this book. My only complaint is Joaquin. As someone who has repeatedly hooked up with him in diamond scenes, he is creepy as hell to people who aren’t interested in him. Otherwise, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the book so far, and though it still has one chapter to go, my rating isn’t going to change unless they REALLY fuck it up somehow. 9/10, likable cast of characters, interesting plot and mystery, badass MC, Sorcha fucking Flannery.

The Phantom Agent: October 19, 2022 – present

Not much to say about this one either. The Phantom Agent is basically an amalgamation of Most Wanted and Crimes of Passion. Agent Gray is an incredibly dull love interest and I can’t stand their dynamic with the MC because it’s that super boring cocky/flirty and stubborn partner pairing again. I also can’t stand the MC either because they’re so goddamn annoying. I find myself very bored and unimpressed as I progress through the book and at this point, nothing can save it for me. 3/10, everything is boring. That is all.

Surrender book 2: December 28, 2022 – present

I hate that we have to have TWO Surrender books on this list, but this one unfortunately barely meets the date cutoff. Solely based on the two chapters I’ve read so far, this book is shaping up to be just as awful as the first. 1.5/10, all the same reasons as the first book, but that extra half a point is because I think this book has the potential to improve on the original material. Because let’s be honest here, I don’t really think they could make the book worse.

Hi anon, I most certainly do! Thanks so much for sending this ask, I was super excited when I saw it because I’m always happy to celebrate short fics - they could use more appreciation! I’ve wanted to do a proper shorts reclist for a while so I indulged myself and went big, hope you don’t mind! Putting this together was quite hard - going through my bookmarks I realized that I usually go for angsty shorts 💀 so I tried my best not to include anything too extreme, I hope these are okay!

This became a lil monster with 40 recs (and I have lots more hehe) so I decided to sort them by genre - the last category includes light angst (more on the contemplative side) because I can’t help myself. Warm, sexy and wholesome, this fic makes my heart soar with the magical beach setting, amazing friendship dynamics and the sweet get together with a delicious side of smut!

2. oxygen [Fic & Art] by @maesterchill (2020, T, 4k)

Tentative acquaintances become something more over a shared smoke at the balcony. Sexy, mature, deliciously atmospheric and full of promise - plus Healer Draco is always a treat!

3. Catch the Snitch (No, Catch My Heart) by @prolix- (2020, E, 4.5k)

Gorgeous bath fic where Harry and Draco just... take care of each other. The raw emotion packed here! Lush and vivid build up with stunning body worship, hot and intimate and breathtaking.

4. Thermodynamic Equilibrium by DorthyAnn (2017, T, 5k)

This quiet comfort fic gives our boys some well deserved healing through physical touching and late night companionship. Love the 8th year atmosphere, soothing and familiar.

5. Blue Sky Is Living Here Today by ignatiustrout (2018, G, 5k)

The loveliest kid fic you’ll see today - real characters, gentle longing, soft understanding. It’s a joy to watch dad Draco through Harry’s smitten eyes, as he realizes there’s no rush to live that love.

Possibly my favorite Quidditch fic, this has an original premise and amazing Drarry dynamics, casual and organic, sassy and familiar, with a perfect lil twist at the end!

One of the funniest PWPs I’ve ever read, clever and charming with easy banter and delicious smut. A sweet and sexy glimpse into the Drarry married life! Cw Mpreg

Sweet sweet coffee shop Christmas romance! Love the light and fun atmosphere, the easy banter and cute wooing while supportive Ron cheers in the background, what a treat!

9. Ice Snakes, Glow-worms and Wolverine Stew by khalulu (2015, M, 8.4k)

Khalulu writes the softest Drarry, it never fails to put a smile on my face. This has a gentle and sweet get together, with lovely slow burn, a gorgeous San Francisco setting and matchmaker Kreacher 💗

10. Life goes not backward by @shealwaysreads (2020, T, 8.8k)

This delicate comfort fic has a special way to tug at my heartstrings - a gorgeous tale about found family and the unexpected wonders of life. Gentle, magical and breathtaking in its simplicity.

The ultimate brat Draco, bossy and confident and absolutely gorgeous with his long hair and impossible snark. Charming and funny, this packs so much character and domestic bliss under 3k! Perfect spoiled Draco is perfect.

This is hysterical and so delightfully creative - Draco exploring Harry’s kitchen and charming a prudish appliance is the kind of cute, silly endeavor I need with my morning coffee!

13. The Spoiling of Sex From Enthusiastic Ignorance by @cibeewastaken (2020, E, 6k)

I’m impossibly enamored with Cibee’s drama queen Draco and his passionate missions! This time he’s decided to get some good diq, and the dialogue and mutual pining will make you smile from beginning to end.

14. All Tied Up by MyNameIsThunder (2020, M, 6k)

This is a secret relationship delight! Sneaking around gets so much better when dramatic Blaise is losing his shit to protect the Council of Serpents’ integrity! A+ faux-drama, super fun and sweet.

15. Luckiest Fucking Size Queen Alive by @l0vegl0wsinthedark (2016, E, 6.2k)

My favorite brand of thirsty and chaotic Draco; being inside his mind is such a crazy ride and you won’t stop laughing for a second. Amazing dialogue and insanely scorching smut as per loveglows’ usual 🤤

16. Sex Ed for Aurors by curiouslyfic (2010, M, 8.7k)

This is a Harry triumph, so fun and charming! Here he’s the one chaotic and thirsty, for a change - I’m obsessed with his internal ranting under the lust potion. Brilliant narrative and top notch characterization, a classic!

17. Ferocious Determination, Insufficient Deliberation, and a Slightly Wrong Destination by Faith Wood (2012, E, 9.5k)

Drunk Draco has never been so absurd and I LOVE it! This goes from hilarious to vulnerable and sweet in a heartbeat; pining Draco is a precious thing and Harry’s gentle persistence made my heart swell.

18. Stand Back: I'm About to Perform Archaeology by Blowfish_Diaries (2018, E, 9.7k)

This fic could definitely use more appreciation - I had a blast with Draco’s hilarious voice and their cute married banter! The plot is quite original and I love the 8th year domestic vibes.

19. The Full Monty by @magpiefngrl (2017, E, 9.8k)

The calendar fic we deserve 👏🏻 this is ultimate thirsty Draco being completely obliterated by Harry’s casual attractiveness but mostly by his kind heart and big smile. One of my favorite comfort reads, hilarious, sweet and so damn sexy, the full monty combo is here!

20. Aural Gratification by birdsofshore (2014, E, 10k)

This fic is a classic, charming and hysterical with an adorable Harry thirsting over Draco’s smooth voice. Such an original concept and engaging read, not to mention the rewarding shade of smut!

21. Tense by Faith Wood (2013, E, 3k)

Me, reading smut for the dialogue? It’s more likely than you think 😂 this fic is hilarious and hot all at once, with perfect banter and clever dialogue, really a smut triumph!

22. Under Your Skin by @p1013 (2020, Explicit, 4k)

Great premise and the sexiest build up, ugh so much teasing and anticipation as pierced Draco takes Auror Harry’s control away 🔥kudos at the A+ twist and promising ending!

23. The Slytherin Urn by @icmezzo (2015, E, 4.6k)

This fic’s geniality slaps me in the face, what a fascinating concept! Redemption kink and magical theory walk together as Harry loses his mind over competent Draco doing some badass curse-breaking ritual.

24. Once Bitten by Frayach (2012, E, 5.6k)

Still one of the hottest things I’ve ever read, lush and raw and absolutely breathtaking. Dark and tender at once, it explores biting kink with unapologetic precision and I love that!

25. Matched Set by astolat (2016, E, 5.7k)

One of my faves by the genius astolat, this is a perfect mix of hot size kink, A+ dirty talk and a brilliant and nuanced plot showing how Harry navigates his post-war reality. A must-read!

This fic is an emotional rollercoaster and goes from light-hearted and casual to vulnerable and tender in a second. Hot and intimate feat scorching wall sex, gut-punching lines and enthusiastic consent🔥

Angry porn with (many) feels, this feels like a punch to the solar plexus. The explosive Drarry chemistry gives way to something quieter and gentler and full of longing, ugh but it aches so good. Absolutely exquisite!

The title says it all; this is a lush and charming read, with chaotic but nuanced Draco pining over authoritative, edgy Harry 😳 steaming pent up tension that culminates in glorious semi-public smut, is your body ready?

A fully fleshed-out love story in less than 3k, with complex characters and powerful feels. Raw, poignant and unbelievably romantic.

32. Still Life by orphan_account (2019, M, 3k)

A superb and gut-punching story where Harry realizes all the little things that make Draco so very different from him - and falls in love anyway. Powerful in its simplicity and concise elegance.

33. Harmony (Left-Handed Melody Remix) by mindabbles (2010, M, 5.8k)

Draco finds his way post-war and Harry meets him in the middle. Aching and bittersweet but also hopeful, with a delicious side of coconut cake, Harry in black robes and Romeo & Juliet as soundtrack.

Enemies to lovers deluxe version! Come and feast on this original narrative, amazingly clever, rich and detailed, telling us an unlikely but inevitable love story.

Broken boys fucking through their issues and healing together during the post-war is so my jam! A+ LQT goodness, this fic is evocative and quietly devastating, but full of feels and hope.

I’ve screamed about this brilliant fic recently; inventive, poignant and utterly romantic, this fic shows all the ways in which Harry and Draco find each other across space and time.

A beautiful love story packing an impressive amount of character, conflict and emotion. We are invited to witness as work partners Harry and Draco finally take a leap of faith and grow out of their casual arrangement.

38. Clear As Mud by scoradh (2005, M, 9.8k)

Subtle and heart-wrenching, the sharp and clever narrative creates fascinating dynamics between this brilliantly written Draco and poor oblivious Harry trying to make sense out of it. An all-time fave. Cw: infidelity (not Drarry).

Fucks buddies gone wrong but make it soft so we get to watch as pining Draco patiently waits for Harry to get the memo. Sweet and intimate, with lots of late night talks and comfortable silence.

40. Tidings of Comfort series by @blamebrampton (2012, G, 10k)

Quietly cathartic and atmospheric, this fic is a poignant balm to the soul; such a beautiful tone, such lovely interactions! A must-read for those who enjoy church settings, honest talks and redeemed Draco. All-time fave.
