'Remind me again why you are here Jack,' you huff, sitting back on your heels in the middle of your lounge.

Jack lays across your sofa staring at you while eating popcorn, 'I'm here for moral support y/n, I did offer to help if I recall, but what did you say?'

You can't help but pout at Jack's mocking tone because he was right and you hated being wrong. You'd gone and gotten yourself a new entertainment unit from IKEA and insisted you could build it yourself, and now he was enjoying watching you struggle, knowing you'd crack and ask for his help eventually.

You go back to the pieces of wood in front of you and pick up the instruction booklet, the sound of Jack eating popcorn getting louder.

'I've been working long and hard on this, why is it so difficult?' you moan loudly, throwing the booklet to the side.

The popcorn sound stops and you feel a presence behind you, and in the corner of your eye you see Jack leaning into your ear, his lips pulled back in a smirk.

'You know what else is long and hard y/n?' he whispers in your ear.

You shudder, 'No! don't you dare say--'

Jack grins and the next thing you know he's waving the instruction booklet in front of your face, 'this journey to success is long and hard, get your head out of the gutter y/n.'

You snatch the booklet from his hands knowing your face was a little flustered as Jack knew how to push your buttons and vice versa, 'okay you do it them, Barakat.'

Jack can't stop laughing and hugs you, 'is little y/n flustered? You're so cute when you're mad. I will put this together just you watch.'

You squirm out of his grasp and throw yourself down on the sofa and pick up his abandoned popcorn. Jack was so going to tell the rest of the guys about this and no one would let you live this moment down because it was fun to embarrass y/n.

After an hour Jack had put the unit together with little inputs from you here and there, and the two of you put your tv on it, 'you did good Jack, next time I'll ask for your help straight away.'

Jack smiles widely and looks down at you next to him, 'you know how you can pay me back y/n?'

You shake your head, 'no way--'

'HOME ALONE,' he shouts, cutting you off.

You let your best friend drag you back to the sofa, even if you couldn't stand the film you did owe Jack. Scratch that, next time you were paying IKEA to build the furniture for you.

People who really like shuake also seem to write themselves into a corner wrt Akechi and his relationship to Akiras team. Contrary to popular belief, the team, including Haru, does not hate Akechi. At worst, they tolerate him and deal with his attitude. Hes a good teammate and respectable fighter and the team recognizes that at the end of the day, he was a teenager who was manipulated and abused by a man who saw him as disposable. Just about every thief understands this intimately. They have the same mindset wrt adults who take advantage of the people beneath them. Under different circumstances they wouldve been friends. And if u approach it from that angle, it becomes less about Akechi being the sole person who ‘gets’ Akira, and more about the thieves being the only people in the world who ‘get’ Akechi.

When you expand your thoughts to include the thieves as members of his Team and not roadblocks that get in the way of your ideal shipping dynamic, you allow urself to give Akechi and Akira more depth and nuance to their own relationship.

Akira and Akechi are wildcards; both of them struggle with the face they choose to display to the world. Its the first time Akira interacts with someone who is, at a literal, technical level, his ‘equal’. But Akechi is one of many firsts for Akira yeah? Every thief has their bond with Akira thats completely unique and personal. Akechi will never be the person who witnesses Akiras Awakening, hes never the person who watches Akira have his restless nights alone in the attic, and hes never the person who realizes in real time that the teenager hes housing is just Some Kid, not the delinquent hes been warned about. Hes not Ann or Yusuke, or any of the thieves; he doesnt have the time or experience that they have with Akira, and I think its interesting to explore that part of their relationship, shippy or not.

Akechi is someone who is incredibly lonely and self depreciating despite his cockiness and attitude. He has no positive bonds to speak of save for his connection with Sae. To have him see a team that works together and cares for each other, how do you think he would feel? Out of place? Inferior in some way? Angry about how hes been alone for so long in this single minded quest for revenge? Wouldnt that be a point of struggle between the two of them? I think what makes shuake good for me is knowing that Akechi needs alot of time to heal, and the thieves would want to help with that process. They do it bc they care, bc Akira cares, and bc they trust Akiras opinion (and he trusts theirs in return); if Akira feels like Akechi is someone who can be trusted Now after everything thats happened, then the thieves would do their best to help. And how would Akechi feel about that? Angry about the show of pity? That even now, he has no real say in what happens to him? Or begrudgingly grateful that they are cordial with him? Because they do care, he KNOWS they care, they care TOO MUCH actually; but the one thing he values over brawn and wits is honesty- fighting for what you believe in without having to use soft words to justify it.

Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low)

Alex had been extremely busy with All Time Low since their latest single dropped, which you dealt with because it was all a part of dating a band member and it made you smile to see your boyfriend enjoying what he did every day. Even though your relationship was secret from the public, the other members knew along with the label and they supported the two of you.

Ironically you met at an All Time Low signing event, where you gifted each member a hand-drawn portrait since you took art in school and it was actually Rian who recognised your signature and gushed over your fan art of not just All Time Low but other bands along with photographs you had taken over the years and put on your Instagram. Alex joked that you could take a photo of him any day, and you took the brave step of stating he should name a time and a place.

Alex did get in touch with you after the signing and asked you to take some photos of him for Instagram which you agreed to. During the shoot the two of you hit it off, learning you liked similar things but had enough differences to intrigue the other person. After that day the two of you continued to chat and call one another.

You were hanging out at Alex's one day when your phone kept blowing up and Alex had enough and took it off you. Your ex-boyfriend was begging to get back together since you’d started to get more attention online because of the photos you took of bands. Luckily Alex didn’t judge you and instead asked you out on a date.

That was a year ago and today you were surprising him at a signing which was being held in the same location as the one you met in last year. it was Valentine’s and Alex had spoilt you rotten because he would be busy, but you had yet to give him the special gift you’d made for him.

Everyone but Alex knew you were showing up, so the label made sure you were the last in the line for the ultimate surprise. You eventually make it up to the long table where the band was sat and Zack makes a heart with his hands and points to where Alex was sat next to him blissfully unaware you were up next.

‘Fancy meeting you here,’ you say proudly, standing in front of Alex who looks up with shock written across his face.

‘y/n...what are you...how?...why didn’t you tell me?’ he stutters, fumbling over his words which weren’t really like him at all.

‘Let me get this on camera,’ Jack insists, pulling out his phone.

You open your bag and pull out a small photo album and place it in front of Alex, ‘I never got to give you your gift this morning, and you are my favourite member of All Time Low after all.’

Alex blushes a little and picks up the album and starts to flip through it, ‘oh my god when did you take these y/n?’

You loved taking photos of people in general because you loved capturing emotions, and the best photos came when the person didn’t know they were being captured. There was a mixture of photos of the two of you, and photos you’d taken of Alex when he wasn’t looking.

‘Do you like it? Happy valentine’s,’ you say, whispering the last part in case anyone around you heard and assumed something was going on.

Alex nods his head, ‘I love it y/n, if I could get up and kiss you I would.’

This time you blush, and next to Alex, Jack and Rian make kissing sounds and gestures since the fans in front of you had left.

‘You can kiss her later,’ Zack calls out.

Alex smirks and winks at you trying to be seductive, ‘oh I intend to.’

You laugh, ‘name a time and place.’
