Stupid kids I'm totally making my MC a old grumpy dude who used to be very friendly and cheerful and now is just like.. "fuck my life" vibes. I chose every single annoyed choice 🤣🤣

But I loved it for real tho. Hated that it had to end so quickly. Don't trust tht lil shit tho.. he's defs up to something but juniper seems adorable. I know I'm gonna love this IF so much. Probably gna romance the most stubborn irritating character too. 👀

I wanted to give an “off” feeling to them so the fact that you don’t trust them means I have succeeded. Their dynamic with “Annoyed” MC is definitely one of the most fun to write!

Valentine’s Day Snippet

So...this is super late. I had wanted to get it around Valentine’s Day but life happened so instead it’s being released about a week later.  It’s about a thousand words and features a Awkward/Stoic MC simping for Alex because that’s what y’all voted for in the polls. 

That’s right - those weren’t just for fun!

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this snippet even if it’s a bit late.

I can only imagine how agonizing it must be to be the one responsible for fighting for justice within a society ravaged by hypocrisy and vanity.

The words ring throughout your mind like a never-ending echo, one that reverberates like a drum through the chambers of your consciousness, ever-present and inescapable. You usually had no difficulty blocking out the taunts of the criminals that you battled but for some unexplainable reason this time it stuck with you.

The easiest explanation would be that you just haven't completely re-familiarized yourself with the mindset that is needed when it comes to heroics, that it will take time to build up the resistance to the mockery that comes with fighting these types of villains. Deep down though, you know that's not the case.

There was a bitter truth to the words, one that you didn't want to acknowledge. You suppose you didn't really have a choice now. One of these days you would have to face what happened all those years ago, back when-

"It's fine! We'll just...scrape off the burnt bits!"

The chatter from the kitchen pulls you out of your thoughts. It seems that Zoe's "Valentines Day Bonding Exercise" wasn't quite going as planned. Not that anything did when it came to those kids. Honestly, you were impressed she managed to get them all to agree.

Usually, any mention of team-bonding got shot down with a "we don't need a babysitter - we're not kids!". You suppose that Zoe simply had a way of pulling people together. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to ask her for some tips...

"I have to admit I am quite surprised that you decided to stick around. Of course, writing up a mission report isn't exactly a team-bonding exercise but I'm sure Zoe will be thrilled anyway."

You glance over at the brunette sitting next to you. Alex was gazing at you with fond amusement, although something more knowing flashes through her eyes for a brief second. She seemed to understand something about you that you yourself hadn't yet realized. It was a habit of hers that had gotten on both you and your former teammates' nerves more often than not.

"...the kids were really excited about tonight. I didn't want to disappoint them."

Your former second in command doesn't look surprised by this revelation. She had always teased you about secretly being soft - or as close to teasing as she got anyways. She had always hinted that deep down you were more compassionate than you appeared, and it seems that you keep on proving her right as time goes on.

"It wasn't just the kids that were excited."

With a gentle tilt of her head, Alex motions to where your former teammates are standing in the kitchen. Jasper seemed to be attempting to swipe some of the cookies cooling on the tray as Zoe switched between stopping him and helping the group of teens with their own desserts. Rowan seemed to have also been roped into helping, if the flour on his clothes was any indication.

You feel your lips twitch briefly in amusement as you turn back to Alex. Her fond yet exasperated expression only added to your amusement, and you chuckled softly. Warm brown eyes finally settle back onto you, and they seem to light up once they see your expression.

A silence settles over both of you for a few more moments as you continue to watch the disastrous attempt at baking that was happening in front of you. Alex bites her lip, glancing at you every so often. Before you can ask what's on her mind, however, she interrupts you.

"...I'm happy we got to spend Valentine's Day together - ah - with the team I mean that is."

Her face flushes slightly, but her embarrassment doesn't seem to affect the small smile gracing her lips. You feel your throat dry up suddenly, as your heart begins beating faster.

"...I'm, uh, happy too - that we all got to spend it together I mean."

Alex's smile widens. She looks breathtaking, like a flower in the morning sun - glowing with happiness and radiating joy. As if drawn in by a magnet, you find yourself leaning in to meet her. Her gentle laugh fills the room, and your heart is warmed by her presence as she leans in to meet you.

You take one final glance at her before leaning in and-

"Hey, look at the cookies I made!"

You are interrupted by Vesper's voice ringing out across the room. You immediately jerk away and see Alex mimic your movement out of the corner of your eye. You attempt to speak but are stopped by Vesper running over and shoving a plate of cookies in your face.

Or at least you think they're supposed to be cookies. It's hard to tell. Some of them are completely burnt while others seem to not have been cooked at all. Others are somewhere in between, still leaving you uncertain if they are actually edible.

"You're supposed to try one! I worked really hard on them you know!"

Knowing Vesper that probably isn't true. Still, you look into expecting lilac eyes before reaching over and grabbing one of the...desserts. Wincing slightly, you bring it up to your mouth and take a bite. It takes every bit of your willpower not to spit it out and even more strength just to swallow it. With each bite, you can feel Alex's gaze lingering on you, almost as if she's in disbelief that you actually managed to eat it.

"...it was...edible...?"

It was not edible, but the seemingly genuine smile that graces Vesper's face made the lie worth it. You watch with fond eyes as they race back to the kitchen. Now that it's out of they way they'll probably get distracted by something else and-

"I told you guys that they were good!"

...or not.

You hear a snort from beside you. You turn to Alex and watch in surprise as she begins giggling into her hands. Alex's laughter is infectious and soon you find yourself joining in. You laugh together, the sound of Alex's giggles blending with your own and filling the room with joy.

In spite of all the challenges you have faced and the many things you will have to worry about in the future, somehow this moment makes them all worthwhile.

Zoe definitely gravitates towards more adventurous and curious people! She likes being around other people who share the same curiosity with the world that she has.

That’s not to say she doesn’t gravitate or enjoy being around other people! She just tends to notice people that match her energy level more quickly.

Another Drabble

It takes place around two years after Aequitas was originally formed.

The sharp pain shooting through your body was decidedly not worth the battle it came from. Although, you suppose flopping backwards onto the center of the couch after getting your ass kicked was probably not your best idea. You can already hear Alex's scolding that was bound to come sooner or later.

"You need to take better care of yourself. The medbay should be your first stop after any mission."

Or something mature and guilt-inducing like that. Alex always had a way of making you feel disappointed in yourself for your lack of self-care. At least you were confident in the fact that your other teammates were getting the exact same treatment. There was a reason she was considered the big sister of the team after all...and a reason most people assumed that she was the leader. Honestly, it could be-

Your thought process is interrupted by another body flopping down onto the couch next to you. You don't even have to look to know who it is lounging beside you.

"God, I'm never fighting Biomaster again. If I have to fight one more of his stupid little mud minions I swear I am going to-"

"Did you seriously eat all of the leftovers?! Other people use this fucking base too, moron."

"I get hungry after missions- you know that!"

"I know that I'm going to kick your ass so hard that you finally learn to control your bottomless pit of a stomach-"

You keep your eyes closed, trying to block out the ensuing argument between your two teammates. Dealing with Jasper and Rowan's bickering was the last thing you wanted to do. Luckily, the universe seems to take some pity on you because the two are interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Guys, please don't fight- I was planning on making something anyways. I think we still have the stuff to make that casserole I wanted to try..."

Zoe's words seem to pacify the two boys because all that can be heard when she goes to rummage through the kitchen is grumbling. You feel another person flop onto the couch next to you. It seems that Rowan wasn't too mad about the missing leftovers. You doubt he would've been willing to sit on the same couch as Jasper otherwise.

"Are you alright, MC?"

You slowly open your eyes to gaze up at Alex. Her face was as gentle and reassuring as always but you could see the genuine concern in her eyes. She was out of her armor and back in civilian clothing. You glance around and notice the rest of your teammates had changed as well. How long had you been lying here for?

"You good, dude?"

Jasper's voice snaps you out of your thoughts. You hadn't answered Alex's question which seemed to concern the rest of your teammates if Zoe popping out of the kitchen and Rowan's subtle glances were anything to go by.

You give an exhausted nod which seems to soothe most of your teammates worries. You suppose that they understood the exhaustion that came with missions like these.

"If you guys could live anywhere, where would you pick?"

Jasper's question manages to grab everyone's attention. Alex looks at him with a polite yet obviously confused expression and you can see Rowan scoff and roll his eyes.

"What are you rambling about now?"

"I'm not rambling. I was just asking a question. God, why do you have to be such a di-"

"I think it would be nice to live in a neighborhood- like the ones you see on TV! I know it probably sounds boring to you all but..."

The longing in Zoe's expression and voice was evident. You suppose you could understand how something so mundane would be interesting to someone like her. Alex seems to agree as a warm smile graces her lips.

"That sounds wonderful, Zoe. Living in a community like that can definitely be fulfilling."

Alex's words brings a wide grin to Zoe's face. Although, if you know anything about her second in command that was probably her goal.

"What about the rest of you? Where would you live?"

Alex hums thoughtfully for a moment before nodding her head as if coming to some agreement with herself.

"I think I would like to live in a cottage somewhere. Being around nature is incredibly relaxing..."

"That's a good one! Can't say I expected anything different from you though, Alex."

Alex let's out a flattered laugh at Jasper's words. Before she can thank him however, she is interrupted by a gruff voice.

"...it would be kinda badass to live in the Alps or something."

"...of course, a recluse like you would want to live in the mountains-"

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?"

"It means that-"

"I would live on the inside of a star."

Your words cut through the ensuing argument. Most of your teammates stare at you with a mixture of confusion and surprise. After a few moments of awkward silence, Rowan sighs.

"Alright, I'll fucking bite. Why would you live in a star?"

You tilt your head at his question. Eventually, you hesitantly answer.

"It's warm. It's also beautiful. Its light shines down and brings hope to others."

You glance at your teammates around you. There was clear fondness in their eyes as they look at you.

"I guess I would choose a space station then. One super close to your star. That way we could always visit without having to pay a fortune."

Jasper's words cause a few chuckles and laughs from your teammates. But you can read the concern in his eyes.

Don't go where we can't reach you.

I have an ask so what are the RO's reaction, like one day the RO and MC is walking side by side then the RO step on a people and losing their balance.

MC caught the Ro in their arms and they locked eyes like the world stop moving for a moment.

So the boring and unfun answer would be that they would be on high alert because after years of training and hero work it's pretty much impossible to catch them off guard enough to trip.

But that's not any fun. So here is how they would react in an AU where they wouldn't be too caught off guard by the trip in general.

Alex:

Alex's face flushes at your words and she lets out a soft melodious laugh. She gets back on her feet but her eyes never leave yours even as you continue walking. However, the moment you find a place of solitude, she pulls you aside.

There is an undeniable fondness to her expression as she takes your hands in hers. They are soft despite the many battles you know she has fought. A gentle warmth radiates from her hands, and you feel a connection that cannot be denied, one that will last longer than either of you can imagine.

"I am nowhere as eloquent as you, my dear. Words are not a craft that I have perfected, but I still hope mine reach you."

She looks directly into your eyes, a loving yet determined expression on her face.

"I will love you until my very last breath. I will do everything in my power to keep our fates intertwined for as long as possible."

Jasper:

Jasper lets out an amused snort. He looks up at you with amusement shining in his eyes.

"A knight and a poet in one? That's a deal if I've ever heard one."

His words have a playful and teasing undertone to them. As he speaks, he makes a scene of fake swooning in your arms. You can't help but laugh at his antics, and the air around you is suddenly light and merry.

However, as you move on and are walking towards your destination, you can see a small flush staining his cheeks and the small glances he is throwing your way.

Zoe:

Zoe's eyes light up and she lets out a few flustered giggles. She looks up at you with pure adoration is her eyes as a gentle smile graces her lips. It’s like looking at a sky full of stars on a clear, crisp night - all of the love and admiration is shining through, lighting up the room like a thousand stars.

"That's so sweet! It's like something out of a fairytale..."

She's pretty quiet as you are heading back toward your destination before she suddenly turns to you and takes your hands in hers with a determined expression.

"I have traveled all throughout the galaxy. I have seen the most beautiful planets that most people can't even imagine. However, out of everything I have seen you are the thing I can never take my eyes off of. All the words and poetry in the universe couldn't describe my love for you."

Rowan:

Rowan isn't a huge fan of PDA, so he would probably just flush before pushing you away while grumbling a bit. He wouldn't say anything about the moment on the walk to your destination or at any other point throughout the day.

You would have every reason to believe it didn't affect him with his usual scowl in place and the way he seemingly avoids talking about the incident.

It wouldn't be until an entire week later, when you see what appears to be a notebook full of different poems written in Rowan's handwriting, sitting on your nightstand that you realize how much the moment meant to him.

Jasper Dialogue Prompt

Here’s a little snippet between MC and Jasper. It won’t be used in the game as I just wrote it as a little warm up but I hope you all still enjoy.

It takes place around a year and a half after Aequitas is originally formed. It’s also not necessarily meant to be romantic but if you want to read it as MC having a one-sided crush on Jasper be my guest!

Dialogue Prompt:  “ The stars will go out before I forget you.”

The gentle pitter-patter of the rain acted as a cover for the otherwise restless energy of the city. Despite the late hour, the city was just as bustling as it was during the day. Possibly even more so. Metanoia never sleeps. Neither does the rampant criminal underground that hides beneath the surface.

You suppose that's why you are out here tonight. Hiding in the shadows on the roof of a building. You can't stop all the crime that happens in this city but you can still try.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the sound of a familiar set of footsteps. You can hear them walking towards you. You don't turn around. You hear a sigh and eventually, a familiar figure drops down beside you.

"You know brooding in the rain like this is just proving Rowan's point."

"As if he has any room to talk."

A small scoff escapes your lips at Jasper's words. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see the corners of his lips twitch upwards in amusement.

"Don't get me wrong I completely agree but him being a hypocrite sadly doesn't stop him from having a point."

Your face scrunches up in frustration. You try to ignore the pang of betrayal that shoots through you as you glare at the teen next to you.

"You agree with him then? You think I'm a shitty leader?"

"Never. Making one bad call doesn't make you a shitty leader. It just means you made a shitty call. We've all done it before. You're not special."

The light-hearted words were an obvious attempt to cheer you up- and on any other day it would have worked. But the failures of tonight still stung. Still, you give a small nod in response to his words and even throw a smile in his direction for good measure. From the way, Jasper sighs, it seems your attempt at covering up your frustration wasn't as good as you had originally believed.

The two of you sit in silence for a moment. The sound of the rain and city below acting as a the perfect ambiance for the thoughts running through your head. Eventually, though your eyes wander back to the boy next to you. He usually isn't this quiet.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

Your gaze seems to pull the question from him. Despite him being the one to ask you the question, Jasper seems oddly vulnerable. He swallows, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down as he waits for your response.

"...do you think Rowan was right?"

He seems surprised by your question.

"No, of course not. I just told you-"

"That's not what I mean."

Your frustrated interruption startles him a bit. Jasper's emerald eyes soften as he looks at you expectantly. You hesitate for a moment before finally managing to find your words.

"...is everything we've worked for pointless? Are we doing this just for the team to split up later down the line? Is everyone going to leave...? Is everyone going to forget?"

There was a hint of desperation in your voice. You felt oddly choked up. Your vision blurs and as you go to wipe away the rain on your face, you are surprised to find tears instead.

You feel an arm pull you into a warm embrace. You can't help but lean into it just slightly.

"I doubt it. Sure, we might disagree sometimes but we're a team! Aequitas will stick together no matter what."

There is something reassuring about Jasper's confident tone. He genuinely believes in his own words.

"Although even if we do split up, and everyone leaves..."

Before you know it, you are pulled out of the embrace and staring straight into emerald eyes. Jasper gives you a confident and reassuring smile.

"I won't leave. All the stars in the sky will have to go out before I forget you."

What does everybody do in their spare time?

Alex: She likes to read in her spare time. She’ll also occasionally try to catch up on some training since it’s not something that’s in her normal schedule anymore.

Jasper: His spare time is usually spent relaxing or playing video games. He’s usually busy because of his job so he tends to use his spare time to unwind.

Zoe: She enjoys baking or doing some kind of craft in her spare time. She’s also recently gotten into gardening.

Rowan: He doesn’t have a lot of spare time but when he does he likes to ride around the city on his bike.

Sidekick Squad

Vesper: They like doing puzzles in their spare time! They also read or play some video games if they have the time.

Leon: He mostly does normal teen stuff in his spare time. Playing video games, hanging out with friends from school, skateboarding, etc.

Nora: She reads or practices playing piano. Occasionally, she’ll try getting into a TV show or series if she’s heard it’s good but for the most part she prefers books.

There wasn’t a specific way Alex became second in command.

It was basically just an unspoken agreement that she was the one giving orders if there was a reason MC couldn’t. Around a month into working together, the team just decided to make it an official thing.

So, she wasn’t actually chosen for the role, she just kinda fell into naturally.

👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical...)?

Alex has dark brown eyes. Her gaze is oddly calming.

Jasper has emerald green eyes. Sometimes when he’s running it almost looks like small flashes of lightening flash through his eyes.

Zoe has blue eyes in her human form and completely luminescent sapphire eyes when she is in her true form. If she is feeling distressed her eyes will sometimes revert back to their true form.

Rowan has deep scarlet eyes. They tend to give his emotions away pretty easily.

Vesper has lavender eyes. They are considered odd looking even in the universe/world that Aequitas takes place.

Leon also has dark brown eyes. They’re kinda plain looking especially when he’s standing next to Vesper or Zoe.

Juni’s eyes are black. They make the bright colors of her hair and clothing stand out more.

Nora has pale grey eyes. They almost appear white under certain lighting.

Sebastian has pale blue eyes. They have been described as striking and otherworldly before.

👻 GHOST - do they believe in ghosts? what are their "ghostly experiences", if any?

Alex doesn’t necessarily believe in ghosts in the traditional sense but she does believe in spirits.

Jasper doesn’t believe in ghosts.

Zoe’s planet/people believe in reincarnation so she doesn’t really believe in ghosts.

Rowan says he doesn’t believe in ghosts but a part of him thinks it would be cool if they existed.

Vesper’s belief is pretty similar to Alex’s. They believe that people leave parts of their spirit behind when they die but doesn’t really believe in the more traditional ideas of ghosts.

Leon doesn’t not believe in ghosts. He isn’t a hardcore believer of them but he wouldn’t be surprised if they exist.

Juni believes in ghosts. She also watches a bunch of those “ghost-hunting” shows and listens to podcasts that talk about the supernatural.

Nora has a pretty similar belief to Leon. She wouldn’t be surprised if ghosts exist but it’s not something she actively believes in.

Sebastian doesn’t believe in ghosts.

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?

Alex rarely ever cries but when she does it is always about the lives she failed to protect or save. When she does cry though it’s never in front of others.

Jasper is very similar to Alex in the sense that he doesn’t cry very often but when he does its because he’s reminded of his failures as a hero. He can’t help but choke up at the thought that he could’ve done more throughout his time as a hero.

Zoe cries a lot. She is the type to shed tears whenever she feels a strong emotion. This makes it so that she cries pretty often.

Rowan only ever cries when he thinks about his failures, not only as a hero, but as a person. He doesn’t cry very often but when he does it’s in the privacy of his own home.

Vesper doesn’t cry a lot. In fact, they tend not to cry even when they probably should. When they do cry, however, it’s because of the heavy guilt and fear that stains both their mind and soul.

Leon cries a normal amount for a kid his age. He cries when he worries about his family and friends or as the reality of what this job in heroics actually hits him.

Juni rarely cries. She thinks life is much easier when you don’t think about the bad things. When she does cry it’s over her own insecurities as both an individual and as a hero.

Nora cries fairly often, mainly because of stress. The stress and anxiety that comes with both life and being learning to be a hero can be overwhelming for her at times.

Sebastian rarely cries. When he does though it’s usually over his own insecurities and the feeling of being a disappointment to the people he cares about and admires.

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

Alex has trouble dealing with fear. She’s supposed to be the brave one - the one people can look to when things go wrong. So what is she supposed to do when she’s also afraid?

Jasper has trouble dealing with his own insecurities. He worries that he wasn’t a good enough hero or that he failed as a friend or teammate. Instead of acknowledging those insecurities, he just pushes them down.

Zoe has trouble dealing with anger. She tries her hardest to be someone that always sees the bright side of any situation so she tends to shove down any negative emotion or frustration she feels.

Rowan has trouble dealing with guilt. He constantly thinks about all his failures as both a hero and as a person - he hates himself for it. That anger towards himself than gets taken out on other people. It’s an endless cycle of guilt and rage.

Vesper has trouble dealing with their own paranoia. They can’t bring themselves to completely trust anyone or anything, no matter how close they may be with that individual.

Leon struggles with his insecurities. He knows he’s a good person but he’s still young and worries about the mistakes he has made and might make in the future.

Juni struggles with being sad. As I mentioned, she is someone who likes to ignore all the bad parts of the world and she doesn’t know how to handle it when she is forced to acknowledge them.

Nora struggles heavily with anxiety. She feels it deeply and still hasn’t quite figured out how to handle/deal with it when it gets super bad.

Sebastian also struggles with his own insecurities. He hides them behind with an arrogant facade but deep down he’s always worried that he isn’t good enough or as strong as he’s supposed to be.

Dev Log

So it’s been a while (about a month I believe) since I last wrote a dev log for Aequitas. Mainly because progress has been…meh.

I’m not behind or anything but I did end up getting a pretty big project for school that I’ve been working on these last two weeks so most of my time and energy went into that instead of the game.

As I mentioned, I am not behind on progress but I’m also not exactly happy with some of the writing so I’m planning on going back and editing/rewriting a bunch of scenes for both this IF and Prodigy.

I’ve decided to push the updates to mid-March which luckily isn’t too different from my original release dates.
