#ZEP SEASON 1

Hey, Zep! Here’s a hard question: which fic did you enjoy the most when writing?
Hey there, lovely!
Ooh, that's super freakin' tough. I've written quite a lot, and I have many "favorites" for different reasons. Like I answered another anon earlier today, I absolutely loved writing Smoke Eater, for example, but it did get difficult for me at times due to the complexity of the story and sometimes the gravity of the subject matter.
That said, I'll give you a short list of my favorites (series):
3. Take Me Home (Beau Arlen x Reader)
Tumblr media
Ah, the Big Sky fandom! This is the most recent series I've written, and I've had so much fun with it as I continued to learn Beau's character and navigate season 3 of the show, trying to fill in the blanks that the show left behind while adding my own spin to certain things.
Beau is my favorite cowboy sheriff, but he's not without his flaws, which made for a rich exploration of his character. ❤️
2. Midnight Espresso (Dean Winchester x Plus-Sized/Latina Reader)
Tumblr media
This is a collection of stories in the SPN fandom, and it's very personal to me! (I myself am both plus-sized and Latina.) Though I tried to make it so all readers, regardless of race/ethnicity or otherwise, could enjoy those stories as well.
It gave me the chance to pair Dean with a reader character who is also a giver like him, who looks out for and cares for him in the same way he cares for others, all while being a badass hunter herself.
From dramatic and angsty hurt/comfort to fluffy smut, I've tried to explore many facets of their relationship, while utilizing both my heritage/culture and my personal experience with body insecurity, body shaming, etc. 💜
1. Break Me Down (Soldier Boy x Reader)
Tumblr media
People probably know me best for this series. It was my first real foray into the complex, lovable asshole known as Soldier Boy (Ben).
And it was my attempt at creating a redemption arc for him through an "enemies to lovers" story, edgier than anything I'd done previously, thanks to the grittiness of The Boys world.
I've continued writing far past the original series because I just can't quit these two, and this version of Ben. (In fact, a new one-shot is coming for the BMD-verse on Friday called Calculated Risks, followed by a mini series in May! 💚)
And there are even more BMD requests in my inbox for when I'm able to get to requests again. So as long as people keep wanting to read about them, I'll keep writing about them! 😂
Thank you very much for this question! It was very difficult to choose. If you'd asked me which "one-shots/imagines" were my favorites, that would've been even harder to narrow down. 😅

Dies Irae
Eight notes.
Hell, this theme can be identified in fewer, especially when you know what you’re looking for. But eight notes is about all it takes, and you’ve got yourself one of the most iconic themes surrounding death, horror, and the macabre.
Even if you don’t know it by name, you almost certainly know it by sound.
————————————
This is the first post the month of spooky and macabre music for Spooky Season! I wanted to start off with a classic and widely-used piece (or chant in this case). I’m planning a few of these, so keep an eye out throughout the month!
Art by @nynehells , go check them out!
————————————
What is the Dies Irae?
From Latin, “Day of Wrath,” this sequence is dated as far back as the 13th century. While who formally wrote the chant is not entirely known (originally attributed, however, to Thomas of Celano, but that is now debated), the text is clearly based on a Biblical passage, Zep 1:14-16. Below is both the Latin-English translation of the Dies Irae’s opening stanza, and the referenced Bible text.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The poem does in fact end on a more hopeful note, but the opening lines are harrowing, and where a lot of music draws inspiration.
Tumblr media
This is the most typical variation of the chant, in d minor. Already off to a great start, as d minor is often called one of the darkest and saddest keys in the circle. The closeness of the starting pitches (Me-Re/F-E is only a half step) adds tension, and the whole step resolution to our home note (Te-Do/C-D) is weak, leaving our ears a bit put off. We don’t travel far - only the distance of a Perfect Fourth, another interval full of tension, with little release. All this combined with such intense lyrics, it’s no wonder the music is so commonly used with death. Sung as a slow chant, and you’ve created a menacing piece of music that has haunted the world over for literal centuries.
Dies Irae in Music
The Dies Irae is ubiquitous in classical music and horror/thriller scores. We’ll take a quick look at some of the more popular uses of the piece! Two classical pieces and two modern pop culture references.
Hilariously, for purposes of this post, the first two examples don’t directly use the Dies Irae chant; instead, they set the text to frenetic, intense music (and I also like them :) )
Requiem - Mozart
The Dies Irae is part of the Ordinary, and so it’s included in Requiems, which is a Mass for the Dead. Mozart’s Requiem was the last piece he worked on before his death (passed before completing it), and it’s a huge choral work.
The Dies Irae appears relatively early on, and it’s a mood changer. Fast, aggressive, chaotic…it truly sounds like impending doom.
youtube
The goal of this movement seems to make audiences feel the frantic energy of the text. It SCREAMS Day of Wrath!!
Requiem - Verdi
youtube
Another use of the frantic energy depicted in the text. Verdi’s Dies Irae is also loud, bombastic, and quite literally hits you hard right away. Hear that gun-shot bass drum and timpani! The strings absolutely fly by; Intense and fast chromatic lines in the trumpets sound as though they’re heralding in one’s doom. (This one’s my favorite btw)
Common to both of these examples: dynamics are turned up to 11, their tempi are fast and relentless, and both use wicked scalar motion which, combined with the speed, create a blast of sound that simply pummel listeners.
Some more recent uses of the Dies Irae in media up next! For these two, we actually hear the chant proper, not use of the text.
The Shining Theme
youtube
I mean, it's quite literally the Dies Irae! This movie even uses the second half of the chant that a lot of pieces and references don't get into. Right off the bat, hearing the Dies Irae, we know this film is going to include a lot of death (which is exactly what occurs). The main theme is played on this funky organ/synth, adding atmosphere, with little room for release.
Sweeney Todd
So, I’m gonna just link Sideways’ video on this musical, because he just does a better job than I ever could. Please watch this video because it’s oh so good.
youtube
The TL;DW of the video is: the Dies Irae is used throughout the music of Sweeney Todd. It’s literally baked into (pun intended) the score. Invert notes here, play it backwards there, change the rhythm a bit, or reharmonize it this way, and you can create an entire musical that hints at the themes of death right off the bat! It’s very clever writing.
Closing Thoughts
It’s obviously very difficult to separate the Dies Irae and the concept of Death, since even from its inception the text and music has, uh, been like that! The intense energy of the text lends itself to frantic music, and composers have taken advantage of this for a long time. Even when just hinting at the chant, the music takes on a more sinister, intense mood, and composers can take and morph the primary chant into what they want, while still implying Death.
I actually have two more classical pieces that use the Dies Irae that I’d like to talk about in a bit more depth separate from this post (plus this one is already long as is!). One of them is often cited as one of the first and most known uses of the chant to imply character death in the music; the other uses the theme a bit differently. I’m just excited to write and look at a bit more because they’ve got spooky and macabre elements!
Thanks for listening and your time!

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written :)
oh hello! beloved enterprisery this is my fave game to do of all time, so thank u for this :D three things before we get into it: (1) out of respect for u, the first two will be iwtv fics, (2) most of these are my least popular works LMAO and (3) this got pretty long. sorry abt that.
hell and you: modern day devils minion w old man daniel and armand. sometimes i forget how much i like this fic and then i'll remember "i wrote a fic abt armand being daniel's sugar daddy, LOL." it's very funny to me personally. i especially love this bit i threw in:
He fills the apartment with the smell of his cologne and something underneath that it can’t quite mask. A smell like water left to stand too long or flowers left too long in a vase.
i like the idea of vampires smelling like death. i can forgive this tho bc i think in the later installments of the vc anne rice said vampires smell like mayo? which is ... well. at least much more attention-grabbing than what i did.
damn these vampires: an armandaniel fic that takes place immediately after the season finale. this fic was majorly inspired by a thought that woke me up from deep sleep. armand and daniel have history. armand (i'm guessing) blocked daniel's memories. but didn't wipe them. daniel can't access them, but they're still there. so how funny would it be if daniel was jealous of louis being w armand but has no fucking idea why.
He smokes one on his walk back to the penthouse, thinking of how he had stood there in the aftermath, staring at Rashid—Armand—hovering over them like fucking Mary Poppins, his hand interlocked with Louis’s, and—instead of doing what a Pulitzer-winning, seasoned journalist of his caliber should’ve been doing in the face of being this royally fucked over—absurdly, inexplicably, Daniel noted the position of Armand’s thumb: on top.
i make myself laugh.
keep on keeping on, dean winchester: deancas s13 au where jack is a baby. i can't actually think of a part of it that stands out without any context (which, in my opinion, is a good sign), but i can say that i enjoy this part quite a bit:
Friday morning, as they’re making their way through the sticks toward the interstate, Sam says, “Hey, guess what I bought,” and holds up a dusty Sing-A-Long CD. “Fuck no,” Dean says. “We are not listening to Metallica all the way to Sioux Falls with a baby in the back.” “He likes it! Right, Jack?” he calls over his shoulder. Jack makes an incandescent gurgling sound. “See? Kid knows any music made after 1979 sucks ass.” “Singing in early childhood is important, Dean. It helps kids with language development, memory, and emotional regulation, and it entrains their social visual behavior.” “Thanks, Spock. You’re the pride of the Federation.” “Dean.” “Dude, I’m just saying, we can entrain his social visual behavior with the classics. We don’t need that baby crap. It’s the 21st century. All we need is Zep, Cash, some AC/DC—”
i worked really hard to capture dean's voice--like, harder than i've ever worked to scrub my own voice from a piece of writing. the amount of references and sayings in this bitch? sheesh.
i'm also very happy with how the relationship btwn jack and dean developed. one person who commented made a very intelligent observation that even i hadn't realized: i made dean see himself in jack. and it makes sense, doesn't it? jack's mom died bc of the supernatural; he wasn't allowed to process this loss at all; and he was left in the care of a father who'd lost a spouse. a father whose grief made him mean and treated his son like an object (hence the "it" pronouns used in the beginning).
anyway! very happy w how it turned out :)
long live the kingslayer: an elriel mission fic. i've spoken abt it like. a million times by now. and i still love it <3 there's just so much real estate to work w when it comes to elain. she's so underdeveloped that anything u say abt her is almost always pure conjecture. it was so much fun to take a character i loved so dearly and write a story where she was never punished for being who she is.
i'm still very fond of this part in particular:
“Wait,” he said before she could leave. His voice was nearly as hesitant as his expression, flickering between uncertainty and a strange, boyish shyness that was captivating on him. He reached into his leathers—where, she couldn’t know—and pulled out a small container. “Here,” he said, placing it in her hands. She opened it. Inside was a smelly, yellow ointment. “A salve,” he explained, “for your hands.” An unnameable feeling seized her. She hadn’t thought he noticed, never dared mention it out of fear of what he’d think, and this whole time he’d been carrying this salve with him. A salve for her hands. It was a terrible idea. She knew it as soon as it came to her, but she grabbed Azriel by the ears anyway, drew him down to her height, and kissed his cheek. She felt his skin go warm, and she imagined how surprised he must look, how shy. When she pulled back, she saw that his face was indeed dark with color, avoiding her gaze. Simultaneously pleased at her reaction and embarrassed by it. He was magical, she thought, and she loved him dearly. Loved him so much that it broke her heart. “Thank you,” she said. “This will be invaluable.” Finally, a smile from him. Unable to resist it, she brushed the back of her hand over his cheek, fond, and said, “I’ll leave you to rest.”
a lot of acotar fans hate it when ppl write azriel to be soft and shy and not particularly dark at all. me, personally? i think that’s boring. azriel was born into an abusive and violent home and suffered unimaginable torture at a very young age. he developed powers meant to protect him from the horror of his daily life, and those powers made him a great spymaster/torturerer. but it's so obvious that azriel hates his position within the court. he's starved of intimacy and tenderness. he has an extremely reserved and kind nature. it's a much more meaningful to have a character like that find someone who recognizes his gentleness and desire for gentleness in him and offers it to him. those characteristics don't make him any less of a man.
god never wrote a good play in his life: a god/chuck character study written in second person. i genuinely don't know how the toxic sibling relationship btwn amara and chuck doesn't make more people absolutely fucking insane. this story is chuck-centered, obviously, but i don't think anyone realizes WHY i did that. i don't like chuck! i didn't like writing from his perspective! i did it bc all of supernatural is chuck-centered. even when it isn't quote-unquote "his" story, it's still his. the point of the whole thing is for the reader to do what chuck/the show doesn't: break out of what's being told to u! look at the other characters! namely, look at amara.
chuck tries to scrub her from the story completely. the fic is 3k long, yet chuck doesn't mention amara at ALL unless she's onscreen. and even when she is onscreen, we can't trust a fucking thing he says! as exemplified here:
Maybe that wasn’t how it happened. Maybe you and your Sister were perfectly capable of creation. It would be absurd if you weren’t. Surely it wasn’t possible that you couldn’t create anything together. If you were in harmony, that should have implied you, together, would excel at it. She was an eccentric mind, designing balls of gas and entire solar systems that resembled you, right where all your rings met. (The most terrifying thing She came up with was the collapse of a star, where it became a gaping black mouth that swallowed everything in sight. You and I, She explained, perfectly in balance.) You were far less excitable, putting all your focus into the one planet you’d claimed as your own, but as you watched Her in those moments, you privately invented jealousy. Maybe you were lying about the lying. Perhaps They did give you counsel in a lapse of generosity, and your essence catapulted as you realized you would have to choose. Or possibly that day went like every other. Maybe She never met Them, and you only met Them much later, once you had shoehorned Them into part of your story. So instead of revelations and sacrifices, your Sister told you about centripetal force as you floated, listening, your rings spinning in slow, lazy circles, and you told Her about how little you cared for all this science and math She liked so much. Where is the pathos? you asked, and She sighed much as an exasperated older Sister should, and you realized that you loved Her very much. Or maybe you didn’t.
WHY? why is that? it's because the longer she's in the story, the worse chuck looks.
amara loved chuck from beginning to fucking end. she was born loving him. she chose him, always, over and over again. and chuck knew this! he used it! he would dangle the possibility of him finally loving her back to get her to do what he wanted. and what does chuck do abt this? abt his story, the first to ever exist? he recreates it. michael & lucifer; cain & abel; dean and sam (all men, curiously). to ... what? prove that he isn't the only brother to have not loved his sibling back? that in his position, u would've done the same?
i could talk abt that fic all day. best thing i've ever written.

Guagenti
Tumblr media
SYNOPSIS: “SAW The Musical captures the events of the first movie, parodying the Saw that started it all. Lawrence Gordon and Adam Stanheight find each other for the first time in the bathroom trap. Will they follow "the rules" as they discover each other's secrets? Will they escape the game in time and “saw” right through? A love story with fluidity (and lots more fluids), SAW The Musical: The Unauthorized Parody pushes the boundary on sexuality and how to love.” -Press Release
Tumblr media
REVIEW: Even though they are related, there's a fine line between comedy, parody and satire. A satire can be painful, and not necessarily in a good way. SAW THE MUSICAL: THE UNAUTHORIZED PARODY OF SAW, after a run in Philadelphia comes to New York Off-Broadway this Halloween season.
The plot follows that of James Wan & Leigh Whannell 2004 film and mixes in a healthy bunch of musical numbers and satire. One of the key driving forces of the satire is the quickly blossoming sexual tension between Adam and Dr. Gordon. Other characters from the film, Jigsaw, Amanda and Zep receive some coverage and you can’t have “Saw” without the puppet, even making an appearance on a tricycle. The sexual innuendos felt crafted more for shock value than to be witty, as they fell flat on this viewer’s ears and seemed more sophomoric than cleaver.
In contrast, several of the songs were funny and witty, several feeling also sophomoric. As a fan of Monty Python, I’m also a fan of their song book. They could be off-color and vulgar, but had sharp witted lyrics and you understood the satire. Songs like “Saw Right Through,” "I'm Your Heroine," “I Want to Play a Game,” and “Pig in a Wig” come close, while songs like “Filthy Things” felt like they were pounding home the joke at the audience’s expense. The musical tracks were played over a nice sound system. However, there were a few times where the singers were off key. Actress Jill Owen had some of the best musical numbers in the show, but alas she was off key a few times.
Tumblr media
The trio of actors are put through their paces with numerous scene changes and custom swaps that leave them little time to catch their breath between songs. During the performance I attended the blackouts were rather long and one of them they rest the musical cue as the actors were not ready by the end of the first go round. The production felt a bit chaotic as the costumes and props constantly felt a tad out of place. At one point the puppet seemed to be falling apart.
I went into SAW THE MUSICAL: THE UNAUTHORIZED PARODY OF SAW with a clean slate, no expectations, hoping for a few good laughs. There were times I felt the play dragging, the energy levels dipping between musical numbers. I didn’t have a bad time, just not a good one. Granted it is an Off-Broadway production, staged in a black box theater, and there were some likable things about the production. The level of the performance I attended felt more like an off-off-off Broadway production and left me feeling less invigorated and feeling more like I needed a nap. It could have been an off night, as I saw the play a week prior to its opening night, but I still have a few issues with the writing that make for a lackluster recommendation.

ZEP thoughts
So... I find it entertaining to read several takes on ZEP. And though the “love triangle” as it was in s1 is sort over done & over, the two teams kinda still exist. Or rather... fans, who prefer Zoey with either of these characters exists. And another interesting thing I’ve notices is how most of Team Max wants Simon to get therapy & be happy & have storylines that focus on his character..so we’d get to know more about him (most Max fans do not dislike Simon’s character), many Team Simon fans dislike Max’s character. And I find the reasons WHY hilarious.
First: I am not a Skylar fan. I mean... just like with every cast member of this show (except “Joan”, “Mitch” & “Maggie”) I had never conciously heard his name or seen his work before. And though I admit he has one of the best voices (vocally) on the show, I cannot be called his fan. I like the character he plays on this show.
Second: I’ve expained in my past posts why I was Team Max. There was only one reason really why I could never support Team Simon. And that was the fact that the writers had Simon be in a relationship when his “emotional affair” with Zoey started. And the fact that it only got more serious after he had broken up, that didnt change...to me...how/when it started.
Third: I am a, so for me the “hotness level” of either character means nothing.
Third: It’d funny to me that he number one thing that fans, who dislike Max’s character bring up about why he’s a not likable character & should not be Zoey’s choice is that he chose to profess his love for her via the flash mob. Somehow the majority thinks that such a public display of affection is not Zoey’s style. But... isnt she her fathers daughter? Wasn’t her dads motto “bigger moments, bigger memories”? Didn’t she only complain about Max actually telling her via the song that he loves her, and never ever mentioned that she was upset about the way he chose to do it? Didnt she call it unexpected & amazing? Cause despite being a “closed off personality” she has also a “wild & messy side”, and we’ve seen how she’s uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations with strangers, but she is comfortable with things around people, whe knows. I think that a lot of the things we learned about Zoey in S1 tell us that our first impression about her is not correct...and that our assumption that this kind of big flashmob love confession is not her style, is not the whole truth. Cause yeah..it is 100% Max’s style, but maybe he knows her better than we do, so he knows she’d appreciate the “bigger moments/memories” theme?
Fourth: The second funny argument that fans, who dislike Max bring up is that he is not letting Zoey deal with her grief & pushes her into a relationship with alll his words & actions? While that may seem so... and be so... that he is the person, who pushes for Max/Zoey, then most of season 1 was all about Zoey avoiding dealing with the fact her dad is dying, denying it’s happening, displacing her grief emotions into everything else (taking on more work responsibilities, focusing on decising between two men in her life...)? Wasn’t she herself spending most of S1 pushing Simon into liking her? Wasn’t she rushing into a relationship with him instead of focusing on her dad & grieving? And letting Simon grieve, too? So I find it funny that fans claim she had not time for romance, when she herself chose to focus on it...instead of what she should have been focusing on all last season.
Fifth: It’s also a bit funny how it’s the same with S2. This time Zoey pulled the same move she pulled on Simon in 1x10 on Max. And they mutually decided to give it a try. She made the first move. And theY both thought she was ready (even if deep inside they probably did know that she wasn’t...)...despite just losing her dad, and the grief. But this time Max might have made a few moves (the shield ring, talking to his best friend about his new business plan), but he did not push her into a relationship. This was again Zoey’s attempt to avoid dealing with her grief & finding distractions...doing everything she could to run away from her grief. She was making the same mistake Simon did (he proposed to Jessica after his dad died, Zoey decided to start a relationship with Max after her dad died). And as they admitted in 2x03...they both probably knew deep down that she wasn’t ready, even if they both “thought” she was...

But also... Is anyone irked over the fact that Max Richman’s character writing is so inconsistent??? I could excuse his behavior in Season 1 post-Zoey’s Extraordinary Night Out up to Ep 2 of Season 2 because it’s very hard to accept that your best friend who you ended up harboring feelings for can just unfairly have a look inside your head and because he was still consistent up to that point, but I don’t know.... Did the writers forget to write him off as genuinely sweet and unconditional lately?? I love Max, and I want him together with Zoey, but that doesn’t mean he’s my favorite character.

The ZEP season 2 promo really said that the love triangle gets MORE important this season and I just rolled my eyes so hard it gave me a headache. 🙄

genuine curiosity. why didn't you like max and zoey? idc much either way but i like hearing why ppl are one team or another -@santa-klaus
Because they were friends and then Max felt entitled to her romantic interest and was an absolute jack ass to her when she didn’t return his feelings which is some BULL SHIT. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes guys who complain about the “friend zone” think that they still have a chance if they can just “prove” that they love the girl enough. even tho she’s not interested. Plus yeah Zoey didn’t handle the situation great either, which is even more reason that they don’t work well as a couple. but ultimately, when she really needed her best friend, he abandoned her because he was but hurt that she didn’t have the feelings for him that he thought he was entitled to because he’d been such a good friend. like news flash, girls down owe guys anything just because they have been good friends. I’m tired. I suppose I should point out tho, I have no watched any of season 2 so Idk what happened with them in the new season. but ALSO I think it’s an incredible disservice to Simon’s character to completely fuck up his life over Zoey and then do a 180 and not let their love story play out. And I just have to wonder if part of what happened was that fandom is racist and y’all overhyped Zoey x Max BEFOre it EVEn HAPPENED and the show thought that it should listen to those fans. idk but i don’t feel good about it. because even if the show didn’t listen to those fans, the fact that Zoey x Leif had more fanfics on AO3 by the end of season 1 than Zoey x Simon gives quantitative evidence that this fandom is racist. and I’m all here for multishipping, if you shipped zoey x simon and other all white ships like that’s fine, but it was clear throughout the entirety of season 1 that the fandom as a whole was neglecting Simon and there is no question that racism, even if just implicit bias, was at play. and a Zoey x Max canonization only rewards that racism IMO.

Ranking ZEP Season 1: Day 12
Tumblr media
#1- Episode 4: Zoey’s Extraordinary Neighbor
This is the most underrated episode of the season, for sure. I mentioned in my post about “Zoey’s Extraordinary Silence” that we rarely see deaf characters in movies and TV. We also very rarely see nonbinary or gender fluid characters. I can count all the ones I’ve seen or heard about on one hand, and most of them are from a single show. We ESPECIALLY don’t see Black, plus size, gender fluid characters. I love that Mo’s story is so full of joy, friendship, and even romance, but that it also doesn’t ignore the very real struggles he’s gone through. Combine all that with discussions about religion and the undeniable right of LGBTQ+ people to occupy religious spaces, and you have one powerful episode. The writing and performances here are so very good, and the musical numbers are wonderful. I adore Mo and Alex Newell with my whole entire heart, is what I’m trying to say.

Please Say That You're Joking (Pt.1) - Chuck Shurley Imagine (Supernatural)
Tumblr media
Title: Please Say You're Joking (Pt. 1) [You can read part 2 by clicking here!]
Pairing: Chuck Shurley X Winchester!Reader
Requested: Nope
Word Count: 2,930 words
Warning(s): mentions of sex, threats of violence
Summary: (Season 4; Season 11) (Y/n) had a single one-night stand while coping with loss in a not healthy way... if only they had a clue about the weight of their actions.
Author's Note: I was recently going back through some of the "lighter" episodes of Supernatural because I wanted to watch something I could chuckle at. That's where this came from.
This might be the most crackheaded thing I've written in a while.
Also, the amount of things I had to bullshit my way through this is actually ridiculous.
Hey! I did a rewrite of the ending of Supernatural. It took a really long time to complete, so it would mean a lot to me if you check it out. Here’s a link! (it’s on my personal account)
-------------------------------------
Sam, Dean, and I walked into the motel room. We were all confused and slightly scared.
We had gone to a comic book shop to do some work on a case. However, we were then called fans.
Fans of what?
Well, fans of a series of books about our lives.
I was the middle Winchester child. Two years younger than Dean, two years older than Sam. I was beyond confused when I saw some weird, romanticized version of me on the cover of a book.
"This is so weird," I mumbled, plopping onto one of the beds in the room.
Sam jumped onto his laptop and started researching. Dean was holding one of the books, reading through it. I didn't even want to touch it.
"I don't like how he describes (Y/n)," Dean commented. "It's weird. It's like he's in love. Listen to this..."
Dean dramatically clears his throat and starts to read in an even more dramatic voice, "'Even after a hard hunt, (Y/n) could easily be seen as the most beautiful of the siblings. They mimicked the beauty of their mother more than their brothers. There's no bruise or cut that could take the loveliness away from the natural curves of (Y/n)'s face. If only they could see how everyone else would stare-"
"Okay, ew," I muttered, walking to the table. "What'd you find?"
"Well, it seems like Carver Edlund is a pen name," Sam shrugged. "And the fans are intense."
"As in," Dean asked, closing the book and joining the two of us at the table.
"Well," Sam handed me the laptop so Dean and I could look at it, "there's fanfiction. About all of us."
"What's this, 'Sam/Dean'," I asked.
"It's... me and Dean... together."
"They just don't care that we're related," Dean asked. Sam nodded.
"God, this is so weird."
"So, how do we find this guy," I asked.
--time skip--
We managed to find the publisher of the novels and found her house.
"So, you published the 'Supernatural' books," I asked as we walked in.
"Yep," she nodded. "Yeah, gosh. These books... they never really got the attention that they deserved. All anybody wants to read anymore is that romance crap."
"Could not agree with you more," I said. "We're hoping that our article can shine a light on an underappreciated series."
"Yeah, because, you know, if we got a little bit of good press, then maybe we can start publishing again," she replied excitedly.
"No, no, no," Dean immediately shut her down. "I mean, why... why would you want to do that? It's such a complete series with Dean going to hell and all."
"Oh my god, that was one of my favorite ones," she rambled. "Dean was so strong and sad and brave. And Sam... I mean... the best ones are when they cry... like in 'Heart' when Sam had to kill Madison; the first woman since Jessica he'd really loved. When Dean had to call John in 'Home' and ask him for help. Or when (Y/n) went back to the motel room after getting kidnapped and just had to sit in their own head and had to truly process not only the death of their mother but now their father. The mixed feelings were amazing."
"You're a really big fan," I noted. She nodded.
"Gosh, if only real men were that open about their emotions."
"Real men," Dean asked.
"I mean, no offense," she replied. "How often do you cry like that?"
"Well, right now I'm crying on the inside," he muttered.
"Is that supposed to be funny?"
"Lady, this whole thing is funny."
"How am I supposed to know this is legit?"
"Oh, trust me," Dean mumbled. "We're legit."
"Well, I don't want some smart-ass article making fun of my boys," she snapped as she sat in her chair.
"Oh, never," I replied quickly. "We actually are big fans."
"You read the books?"
"Cover to cover," I promised.
"What's the year and model of the car?"
"1967 Chevy Impala," Dean smiled proudly.
"What's May 2nd?"
"That's my- uh... Sam's birthday," Sam replied.
"Sam's score on the LSAT?"
"Umm... 174," Sam said nervously.
"(Y/n)'s first hunt?"
"Vampire in Washington," I answered. "Dean was at the motel sick and (Y/n) almost chopped John's head off when he scared them."
"(Y/n)'s favorite memory that's not related to hunting?"
I smiled, "Helping Sam get ready for a date when he was a teenager because Sam didn't trust what Dean had told him."
"Dean's favorite song?"
"It's a tie," Dean replied. "Between Zep's 'Ramble On' and 'Traveling Riverside Blues.'"
She finally laughed and smiled again, "Okay, okay. What do you wanna know?"
"What's Carver Edlund's real name," Sam asked.
"Oh, no. I can't," she shook her head.
"We just wanna talk to him," Sam continued. "You know, get the 'Supernatural' story in his own words."
"He's very private," she shrugged. "Like Salinger."
"Please," Sam tried again. "Like I said, we're um... big fans."
Sam unbuttoned his shirt enough to show his anti-possession tattoo. Dean pulled his shirt to the side to do the same. I rolled my eyes and yanked the arm of my jacket down and pulled up the sleeve of my t-shirt. I don't wear as many layers as them and I had opted to put the tattoo on my upper arm because I thought it looked nicer.
"Awesome," the lady mumbled before standing up. "Y'know what?"
I looked away as she pulled her pants down.
"I got one too."
"Wow, you are a fan," I slapped Dean's arm. The lady fixed her clothing before grabbing a pen and paper.
"Okay," she said. "His name's Chuck Shurley-"
And I stopped listening after that. I knew that name... why did I know that name... oh... oh no. I'm gonna kill him. We're going to meet this man and I am going to end up killing him.
I followed Sam and Dean as they started walking out of the woman's house.
"Excuse me," she called as we reached the door. We looked back at her. "I'm sorry, but you look exactly like how I picture (Y/n) when I read the books."
I chuckled, "Thanks."
"He describes (Y/n) with so much detail," she smiled. "You could play them in a movie."
"Thank you," I waved as we walked out.
"'You could play them in a movie,'" Dean teased.
"I know who Chuck is," I said, ignoring him.
"What," he asked. I nodded. "How?"
I pointed to get into the car. I got in the back seat and Sam and Dean sat upfront. Dean started driving to the address the lady gave us before I started speaking.
"Okay, when you went to hell, Sam's not the only one who ran off," I explained. "I wasn't gone for four months... just two weeks. In those two weeks, I got involved in a single one-night stand. The name he gave me was Chuck Shurley."
"You screwed the man who wrote books about us," Dean asked, sounding angry.
"Do you think I knew he was writing books based on our lives?"
"He had to have known who you are," Sam added. "This isn't an accident. He has to get visions or something."
"Yeah, I know," I nodded. "He made money off of my name and then screwed me."
"Damn," Dean mumbled. "I missed a hell of a lot."
I rolled my eyes.
--time skip--
I knocked on the door loudly. Sam grabbed my arm, shaking his head at me. The door was opened and I smiled obnoxiously as Chuck. He was in a robe, his boxers, and an old white shirt. He looked tired and like he hadn't had a goodnight's sleep in days.
"Chuck Shurley," Dean asked.
"Chuck Shurley that wrote the Supernatural books," Sam added.
"Nice to meet you," I said. "This is Sam... Dean... and I'm (Y/n)... the ones you've written books about."
Chuck sighed and went to shut the door. I stepped in, stopping it with my foot.
"Listen, I appreciate the enthusiasm, I really do and I remember you," he motioned at me, awkwardly grinning before seeming to shake the memories out of his head. I almost slapped him right then. "But please... go get a life."
"You see," Dean followed me, helping to force our way inside. Sam made sure the door shut behind us. "We have a life... and you're selling books about it."
"Okay, this isn't funny," Chuck mumbled.
"You're right," I said. "We just wanna know how you're doing it?"
"I'm just a writer, I'm not doing anything."
"Then why do you know so much about demons and tulpas and changelings?"
"Is this some kind of 'Misery' thing? Ah, it is, isn't it? It's a 'Misery' thing!"
"No, it's not," I shook my head. "Believe me, we're not fans."
"What do you want then," he asked.
"I'm Sam... and that's Dean and (Y/n)," Sam tried again.
"Those are fictional characters," Chuck yelled. "They aren't real!"
Dean grabbed him and pulled him outside.
"Wait, wait-"
"We aren't kidnapping you, calm down," I rolled my eyes. Dean opened the hidden compartment in the impala's trunk.
"Are those real guns?"
"Yes," I nodded. "And real rock salt, real fake IDs."
Chuck let out a laugh at it, "Well, I gotta hand it to you guys. You really are my number-one fans. That... That's awesome. So, I-I think I've got some poster in the house."
"Chuck, stop," I rolled my eyes, grabbing his arm as he went to walk away.
"Please don't hurt me," he begged.
"How much do you know," Sam asked. "Do you know about the angels? Or Lilith breaking the seals?"
"How do you know about that?"
"Have you not been listening," I asked. "The real question is how do you?"
"Because I wrote it," he explained.
"You kept writing?"
"The books never came out because the publisher went bankrupt," he furrowed his eyebrows.
I stepped back, letting go of his arms.
"Okay, wait a minute," Chuck crossed his arms. "This is some kind of joke, right? Did Phil put you up to this?"
"Oh my god," I muttered, pinching the bridge of my nose. I grabbed his robe. "I'm sorry but I'm really tired. Nice to meet you. I'm (Y/n) Winchester, these are my brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. You wrote and published books about us, probably knew who I was, and then you still slept with me."
He stared at me in shock.
"What," I asked.
"The last names were never in the books," he mumbled. "I never told anyone about that. I never even wrote that down."
"Then I guess we have a lot to talk about," I let go of his robe.
The three of us followed him inside.
--time skip--
"I got a visit from Cas," Dean explained as he walked in. "I've some important information."
After talking to Chuck and getting a draft of what was supposed to happen, we were all panicking. Dean told us to wait here. Lilith was going to come for Sam and we both thought it'd be harder if there was more than one of us here at all times.
Now, Dean was coming back from seeing Chuck.
"And that important information is...," Sam trailed off.
"He's a prophet of the lord," Dean said, smirking at me.
I shut my eyes, letting my head fall forward.
"Please say you're joking," I mumbled.
"Nope," Dean replied.
Sam looked over at me. He only started chuckling after his brother broke.
Dean was laughing his head off within seconds, "You screwed a prophet!"
"Shut up," I groaned. "I'm gonna kill him!"
"Archangel will kill you."
"I'll happily pay that price," I muttered. "I slept with a prophet."
"At least that means he didn't write himself to sleep with you," Sam tried to comfort me.
"Yeah, God just decided I was supposed to sleep with the guy publishing books about my life," I replied sarcastically. "That makes me feel so much better."
"Come on, it could be worst-"
"Sam, love you, but don't finish that sentence if you even kind of value your life," I muttered.
I was desperate for this conversation to just end.
--time skip--
After all was said and done, and Chuck accidentally helped us chase Lilith away for a while, we gave Chuck a lift back to his place.
I followed him up to his door, offering to look around and make sure that he's safe. He shook his head.
"I have an archangel protecting me," he reminded me. "Can't get any safer than that."
I nodded.
"I'm sorry, by the way," he said. "About us. I didn't recognize you until after... it all... and I didn't say anything because I didn't really know how to explain it. The whole event makes me feel all scummy."
"It's alright," I replied with a chuckle. "It's fine, I promise."
He offered me a nervous smile, "Y'know, in all of my visions, you're the most vivid thing."
With a grin, I leaned over and kissed his cheek gently. I stepped back and headed back toward the impala. I made sure to take note of his nervous and flustered face.
"See you around, Chuck!"
"You... You too," he called after me. I got in the backseat and got comfortable.
"So... screwing the prophet wasn't that bad," Dean asked.
I just rolled my eyes, waving through the window at Chuck as Dean pulled away from the curb. Leave it to a Winchester to end up in a situation like that.
--time skip (season 11)--
Sam and I followed Dean with our guns ready. Dean was following the amulet that he had owned for a long time without even knowing it could show us where God was.
Everyone had been infected by Amara only minutes ago but now it was okay and Dean's amulet was glowing.
"Holy shit," I mumbled, seeing who was walking over to us.
Chuck.
He was supposed to be dead. That's why Kevin's prophet powers had been activated.
"No way," Dean said.
"Hey," Chuck... or God said. "We need to talk."
Despite our understandable hesitation, Chuck reached forward, teleporting all of us back to the bunker. I stepped away from him, slightly overwhelmed.
"(Y/n)," Chuck walked over and tried to grab my arm. I instinctually slapped him. I was nothing but confusion and anger. "I deserved that. Just, please?"
I stepped away again.
From behind Chuck stepped Kevin's ghost. My breath caught in my throat. The poor boy had been through so much shit because of us.
Kevin told us about how we looked stressed and that we should listen to Chuck.
Then, Chuck waved his hand. Kevin turned into a ball of white and blue light before ascending beyond the bunker.
"Where'd he go," I asked.
"Heaven, where he deserves," Chuck promised. I nodded.
I listened to the rant about how Chuck had abandoned us all and how awful things were. Then, the conversation turned to the plan to stop Amara. The boys talked about needing Lucifer and Chuck got incredibly upset. In a fit, he went to leave. I stepped in front of him.
"No," I said bluntly. "Even if you want to avoid the subject of your estranged son, you can't just leave."
"(Y/n)-"
"Sam, Dean," I looked at them. "Give us a minute?"
They both nodded, glaring at Chuck on their way out. I tried to ignore the instincts that were telling me that Chuck was just selfish.
"(Y/n)," Chuck mumbled.
"Just answer my questions," I said. "Then we can discuss what to do with Amara without you storming away recklessly. Okay?"
He nodded.
"Have you been God the whole time," I asked.
He nodded.
"You wrote all of our stories?"
Another nod.
"Did you write that I was going to sleep with you?"
I felt manipulated and angry. I was desperate for an answer. I knew that this could've made me feel like dirt, but I needed to know.
"No," Chuck said. I clenched my jaw, ready to call him a liar. "I told you. I had been pretty much hands-off for a long time. Did I know who were? Absolutely. I'm sorry I lied to you about that. But I didn't plan anything between us. We weren't some divine plan."
I nodded, looking down.
"You know how Dean and Amara are connected," he asked. I nodded, looking back at him. "We're like them."
"And that's not a divine plan-"
"I'm not doing a good job explaining this," Chuck shook his head. "It feels like we're like them. Like there's this bond that just happened as soon as we met."
"You lied to me, for years," I said. "Saying we have some bond isn't gonna fix that."
"I know."
We both fell silent. Slowly, I started laughing. Chuck furrowed his eyebrows, "My only one-night stand... and it was God."
Chuck started laughing with me while I really processed what I had done.
I slowly stopped laughing.
I didn't notice until it was too late that Chuck had slowly gotten closer to me. As soon as his lips brushed mine, I pushed him back. Not hard, but enough to get him to step away.
"No," I mumbled. "Not that, no."
Chuck nodded, "Got it."
"Now," I sighed, "we need to actually plan to stop Amara, and if we need Luci-"
"We don't," he said bluntly. "We can do something else. We don't need him. Okay?"
I nodded. In my gut, I trusted him. Maybe that was me being an idiot but I did trust him. For now at least.

So....let's talk. Zoey's season 2 finale. It broke my heart. Here is why:
1. Bad writing
2. Zoey and Simon never had chemistry now? Suddenly that never existed for 2 seasons?
3. Bad writing
4. They completely wrote off Zoey and Simon's relationship 2 minutes into the show. They were so happy 3 episodes ago. But suddenly they were just using each other to get through their grief? Sounds like they took some notes from bias fans. It was made clear Simon would probably accept zoeys powers and they acted like they were leading up to her trusting him with that secret but suddenly that was off the table completely for some reason.
5. Bad writing
6. Leif and Tobin had no storylines this season and were merely used as props even though both actors are regulars now.
7. Bad writing
8. They didn't know what to do with Simon now that his story with zoey is over clearly. Where he will fit in to a season 3, idk. This thing with him being a mentor now is great and all but where does it fit into the flow? It doesn't. Shame.
9. BAD WRITING
10. MAX/SIMON/MAX/SIMON/SIMON/SIMON/MAX/Simon/MAX/MAX/MAX/MAX
11. BaD WriTINg
12. Wasn't Max totally infatuated with rose like 2 episodes ago? Lol.
13. Did I mention bad writing?
Y'all. It would be one thing if this was a natural progression of character growth but this back and forth wishy washy Zoey that they've created in season 2 is really sloppy. I hate what they did with this show I was once so passionate about. Sorry but no amount of ship bliss could blind me from the bad. This has nothing to do with me loving Simon but everything to do with the zep writers throwing all sensible writing totally out the window to give fans what they want.
Sidenote: The mitch dream was incredible. Best scene of the entire second season.

So now that I have been binging ZEP and know more about the heartsong logic and rules, I have QUESTIONS about grifting. Because, like, there’s that one episode where the character can manipulate his heartsong by focusing on something else, right? So I wonder if grifters could do that too, unintentionally. (This is mostly an excuse to have Tara pull the wool over Nate’s eye VIA HEARTSONG in her introductory episode, and also maybe to have have one of the grifters sing All Eyes on Me)
And, because my brain is ALSO an iPod on shuffle this morning, at some point in heartsong au post- or during the second david job Sophie and Maggie are commiserating about the Things Nate Does within Nate’s earshot, and it’s already So Much for him, and then they break out into The Tango Maureen (minus the last “she cheated” verse, because, well, he didn’t)
lol is that the "take me out to the ballgame" scene in season 2? i dont remember it happening in season 1. oh season 2....what a mess lol.
Oooh, that's a fun concept actually! Maybe it's just that grifters like Tara (and Sophie) are so good at being someone else that they hide their feelings really well, too, if they're on a grift? Like, they're kinda like "i'm not me i'm Margaret from Accounting :)" and therefore they feel like Margaret from Accounting lol. I do feel like Tara sings that song once or twice, just cuz it's funny haha.
Also yes, the Sophie/Maggie duet would totally happen! I live for killing Nate emotionally in this au (sorry my dude) and making him sit there and listen to them two rag on him is *chef's kiss" very good lol.

10 times Zoey looked at Max as if he’s her Moon & Stars
...and that’s just during one single scene
And we all know how much Zoey loves astronomy (space, stars, moon...). She loves moon/stargazing...
