A Word on Lotor’s Hair

I know it’s a popular and amusing fandom assumption that Lotor is meticulous about maintaining his hair and strives for its perfection and, given his obvious good looks, royal status and the charming demeanor he often presents, we’d expect to see him adhere to a character archetype that is vain about their appearance, but I honestly think the truth is probably the opposite.

I don’t believe Lotor is a particularly well-groomed prince by prince standards or cares to be as he’s more used to ‘roughing it’ than he is to luxury. Due to his circumstances, he’s been forced to become the kind of person who’s more accustomed to sleeping in cockpits than a bed or making a home in an abandoned temple than a palace and as such I really don’t think he cares much about maintaining his appearance (he has far bigger things to worry about after all) and lets his long locks remain looking disheveled for this reason.

Lotor isn’t afraid to proverbially get dirty and does not present himself as a dainty prince who fusses over such trivial things. He doesn’t even seem to care (or perhaps even notice) when a piece of his hair is cut off during a duel. This attitude, though probably exacerbated by his unique lifestyle, could also be rooted in Galra culture perhaps.

And, though he could simply have thick, wavy hair naturally, I personally believe his permanently curled up ends are actually the result of repeatedly shoving his hair into a helmet. It would be a nuisance trying to fix his long mane every time he let it out and therefore simply leaves it where it lies. 

I think it’s also worth noting that, given his mixed heritage, he’s used to being rejected for his looks and that reality, as well as the other points I listed, probably don’t inspire him to maintain his appearance either. In a different, happier world where he’s allowed to actually be a prince rather than an exile or fugitive who isn’t constantly fixated on pursuing his own plans, I think we actually would see him look more refined with hair kept straighter, cleaner and more resembling of his mother’s. Anyway, that’s just my unnecessary opinion on Lotor’s hair. 

TL;DR: Lotor has messy helmet hair and doesn’t care.

Been developing my Voltron/Wings of Fire AU some more and finally came up with some more designs

Started getting lazy after Allura, but I managed to fit most the characters I wanted to design before my hand got tired.

Since the paladins are phyrrian dragons, it made sense for the aliens to be pantalan dragons to me because they’re on a different continent n stuff.

Allura and Coran are both silkwings and also the supposed last of their kind

Zarkon is a beetlewing, they’re canonically extinct but he’s like a gajillion years old so I think him being an extinct dragon race is pretty fitting. Haggar is a silkwing but it’s not very apparent with her hood, so most dragons assume she’s a hivewing (the galra are hivewings in this AU). Lotor is a hive and or beetle/silk hybrid, he’s just a silly guy fr.

HC that Mark can't really go to concerts anymore because of his sensitive hearing (it's nothing too bad, but it's still really annoying and makes his ears ring, and he needs his ears for superhero stuff. And for his daily life)

hello tumblr dot com i just watched all of invincible in like three days and cannot stop thinking about the parallels between mark grayson and michael afton

both of them have god awful fathers (obviously)

both have to pick up the pieces their fathers left them after they left (in one way or another)

both are trying SO hard to separate themselves from their fathers and not be like them

both end up exhibiting some level of violence similar to their fathers anyway

both of their fathers give them hints and pieces of the big picture (nolan’s books / we can reasonably assume william told michael about sister location)

Least favorite trope: years of emotional neglect/abuse swept under the rug by one scene where a parent admits they loved their child all along. And their broken, traumatized victim adult child accepts this half-assed non-apology (and the audience should too) because the writers think that’s closure.
