Shadowhunter Headcanon/Promptlet: Traditional Dress
Shadowhunters began separating themselves from the mundane world in the first or second century AD, and many of the ways they live in Alicante haven’t progressed much since that time, especially their manner of dress.
While those nephilim stationed at Institutes have transitioned into wearing more contemporary mundane-style clothing so they don’t have to be glamoured every time they leave their own enclaves, most nephilim still wear the knee length (or floor length) belted Roman tunics when at home.
In the six months or so they've been dating, Magnus has only ever seen Alec in mundane, era-appropriate clothing. Alec has been the Commander of New York for so long that he rarely has the opportunity to relax - even in his own rooms at the Institute Alec is typically in clothing suitable for quickly throwing patrol leathers over in emergencies.
However, when Alec moves in with Magnus, he realizes how much it means to him that Magnus doesn’t treat Alec as a guest or as company- but treats him as if he belongs there, as if his home is Alec’s home too.
Alec loves seeing Magnus in his elaborate Consular High Warlock wardrobe, but he adores seeing him in a pair of soft leggings and a loose, comfortable T-shirt, something reserved solely for intimate nights spent relaxing together in the loft.
Realizing how much it means to him that Magnus is so overtly comfortable around him, Alec hopes the reverse might be true as well and impulsively decides to make an impromptu trip to Lightwood manor after a Clave meeting. The backpack with a few of his favorite tunics is unpacked at the loft later that day in just a few minutes.
The next night, Magnus emerges from the bath in buttery-soft, neon pink leggings and one of Alec’s old shirts. Alec swallows dryly even as Magnus’ eyes gleam in simple pleasure at Alec’s reaction while he demands Alec switch out his patrol leathers for something more comfortable before joining him on the couch.
Alec happily agrees and heads into the bedroom to change. Tentatively, however, he reaches for one of the comfortably worn tunics he grew up associating with true relaxation instead of the sweats he learned to make do with in New York.

a HC that has been expanding - inspired by the fic between the lines
Tw/ mention of torture, and mention of rape, mention of murder
Magnus and Alec have been dating for 5 years now since they were 20 (known each other since they were 16), and they are engaged and have adopted baby Max.
There is a sitaution -
Magnus never told Alec about what and who his father
Asmodeus has been in prison since he Magnus was 19, for arson, however he has mudered, exploited, extortion, rapd and traffickig. Witnesses never stuck and evidence doesnt lead to him, the arson incident was witneessed and recorded
HEADCANON BEGINS:
While Alec and Max was out with his mother, Magnus is at his appartment renovating when his phone rings, and Magnus answers and was met with a worried tone from Ragnor saying:
"Have you heard? Has Johnathan called you?" Ragnor says, his voice shaky,
Magnus was now confused
"No he hasnt rang. Why? Whats going on?"
Ragnor just tells him right there and then
"Your father is out of prison"
And the world stop's for magnus for a second as he felt his heart thump quicker.
"When did he get out."
Ragnor was quite and Magnus heard Raphael voice
"Yesterday, are you safe?
Magnus looked around and grabbed a pen and began scirbbling on a piece of paper as he tapped his left foot.
"Magnus are you safe?" Ragnor's voice repeated as Magnus heard shushing in the background.
"Yeah..I am, my dad he wont come to me not yet..if he wants to make himself known to me, he would, he doesnt know where I live." Magnus said as he threw the pen at the opposite end of the room, hitting the wall.
"Raphael says that have you told Alec?"
Why now? Why? FUCK
"No I havent..I..shit Ragnor I cant.."
"what the fuck do you mean you cant? Havent you told him about your dad?"
Magnus was now fiddling with another pen, twirlling it around his fingers.
"I was going to tell him truth!" Magnus got a notifcation from Alec which wrote "at a cafe do you want anything" magnus quickly typed coffee.
After a few awkward minutes, Ragnor spoke again.
"Magnus why didnt you tell him?"
"Max died then, and he was murdered, Alec was distraught and so was the rest of his family, they didnt know who kil - " pictures of his dad's friend covered in blood, a small child's body in the car, and the exchange of money.
"Ragnor my dad killed him, he told me when I confronted him about it, he said that the Lightwoods needed to be taught a lesson."
"Why the fuck didnt you tell the policr about this?"
Magnus repsonded back "I was scared Ragnor.. ive seen him do a lot of bad stuff, I did bad stuff, if i snitched and sent my dad to prison, sure as hell was going to drag me down or worse - my dad he doesnt torture just to get revenge or petty, he enjoys it...Ragnor...
The door opened, and in came Alec holding two coffees and a brown paper bag that smelt of bakery.
"Alec is here, gotta go" he hung up as he kissed his fiance
"Where is Max"
"He fell asleep at mom's so I left him there, gonna go back though, everything okay, looks like youve seen a ghost."
Magnus let out a chuckle as sipped his coffee and took a bite out of the doughnut.
"Alexander..I need to talk to you about something, can you sit down."
"Is everything okay?? Do you want hold off on the wedding? Dont you w-" Alec sat down as Magnus grabbed his hands and placed his hands in his.
"Its about my biological dad?"
Alec raised a brow at this,
"Your dad???"
Magnus felt his world collapsing, as a future with Alec and his son not by his side.
"Magnus, what about your dad? Your scaring me?
Magnus eyes stared into his
"My dad did some bad stuff"
"Like what?"
"He was in prison for a minor charge arson and assult, and he got 6 years, he could have gotten a life sentencd, but there was no evidence, witnesses and his assosicates didnt give him up an - "
"Okay Magnus, just take some deep breaths. And tell me what did he do?"
Magnus muslces tensed, as his hands were sweaty and cold.
"He was a crimelord, he traffiked, exploited, murdered, raped , he tortured."
Alec just looked at him
"Did you know?"
Magnus stayed silent and looked at the floor. He felt Alec stand up as he was pacing
"Thats why you were - you knew and you didnt tell anyone. You fuck Magnus, 6 years thats this year?"
"He got out yesterday." Magnus whispered, not looking at Alec who was pulling at his hair
"Are you safe here?"
"Yes" Magnus respnded, he hoped he was safe in his appartment.
"I want you to answer me some questions, yes and no answers okay?"
Magnus finally looked at Alec, as he had tears in his eyes.
"Okay"
Alec asked the first question, which made Magnus wince.
"If your dad never got out, were you going to tell me."
"No but Alec - "
"I said only yes and nos. Next question, you were uncertain you wanted to adopt Max, was that because of your father?"
"Y...yes."
"Did your dad ever abuse you?"
"No" a question Magnus has been asked multiple times
"Have you hurt somebody?"
Magnus looked at Alec..he looked at the door, and back at Alec, and then the photo frames of them two and then a few with Max.
He didnt want to cry
"Yes."
"Have you killed somebody?"
Magnus nodded,
"I..I cant be around you at the moment, im going to my mom's okay..god." Magnus eyes were on alec, as he grabbed a bag and packed his stuff and Max's.
He coudlnt speak, he was frozen, his legs was stiff
Alec looked at Magnus and mouthed a love you before closing the door.
He felt sick, his heart was thumping, his feet tingled, tears pooling out as he heard his phone ring, he stood up, shaking, he saw it was Catarina, he declined her call, as he felt dizzy, tears made it difficult to see, as he wiped his eyes with his sleeve, as his phone buzzed again, and again it was Catarina, he sighed angrily and answered but was met with silence.
"Hello Magnus, long time, no see." That was when he froze.
"How...is Cat ?"
"ohh Catarina is fine, arent you my dear.." he heard her cry, Magnus saw red,
"If you want to see her again, meet me on Washington Street near brooklnn bridge."
"What makes you think i wouldnt call the cops"
His dad laughed, as Cat let out a cry again
"Okay..okay."
"Anyway im a free man, even of you do snitch..ill just tell your little bitch of a fiance what you did. And ill make sure he never sees you again. So meet me there in an hour, or the pretty white haired gets it." He hung up, as Magnus screamed, grabbing his jacket, he looked at his phone, and called for a cab, half an hour.
Half an hour.
Thats bassicaly it.

Words cannot express how much I love Madzie, oh lawd. * BRACES SELF * Okay so, seeing as Alec was like the first person to really meet Madzie & have any kind of interaction with her, it’s obvious they have a special bond / relationship. Alec loves kids.
Madzie’s the cutest kid, ERGO Alec ADORES Madzie.
Since Catarina is like technically Madzie’s guardian now? And Iris was before that, both have this sort of connection to healing / medicine. Iris was a doctor and Catarina’s a nurse lols. So I feel like being around that and other warlocks who use their powers to heal people or whatever, Madzie would look up to them in some way and want to imitate their abilities??
SO any time Alec comes by to visit ( because he would when he can ) he’d play along and pretend to be Madzie’s patient as she plays doctor or nurse or healer on him. And Madzie’s pretty powerful and smart for her age so I could see her purposely doing something silly & innocent when she “pretends” to heal him, just to mess with Alec. Maybe she’d tickle him without touching him or give him an itch he can’t scratch?? Idk, something that makes her crack up giggling. She’s a child so I feel like she WOULD find that amusing. And Alec wouldn’t care because he just enjoys seeing her adorable little smile & laugh and ya’ll !!!!!!! I’m crying over it. BYE
What’s more though is, some say laughter IS medicine. So even though Madzie’s “pretending” her laugh is like, medicine.

imagine magnus and alec taking madzie trick or treating for halloween because unfortunately catarina has to work the late shift at the hospital so therefore can't do it herself and they let madzie be anything she wants and she just says she wants to be them because of course she absolutely adores her uncle alec and uncle magnus. so magnus adds highlights to her hair to match his current ones and puts golden eyeliner around her eyes and alec draws a deflect rune on her neck with face paint, being careful of her gills and adds other runes to her arms. and there's a lot of discussion about how to combine their clothing styles but she ends up looking adorable in a leather look jeans, a plain black t-shirt and a suede burgundy biker jacket with studs on the shoulders and some biker boots. she also has a few rings on her fingers and a small ear cuff on her ear while a toy bow and quiver rest in her hands. and madzie has the biggest smile on her face ever like she's so happy because she looks like two of her favourite people in the world like bless magnus and alec would be close to crying and they'd be taking so many photos because honestly they have never seen someone look more adorable

One time someone said Jace was the superior parabatai half and that Alec wasn't a hero, said person was faced with a passionate six hour rant on why Alec was in fact the superior parabatai half and was just as much a hero as them all. (Magnus watched the whole thing).
When they were younger and Jace had warmed up to the Lightwoods, Alec had started to sneak off and check on Jace every night, sometimes staying with him til the nightmares passed.
After Clary had come along Alec had felt insecure about where he stood in Jace's life, leading Jace to tell him something along the lines of "Alec, you're the reason I started to let love in again. Your unconditional acceptance and love is what helped heal me. You loving me is what gave me the ability to let others in, and let them love me. When I stepped off that boat when I came to stay with you for the first time, something in me knew you'd be important to me, I just didn't know how important. If not for you I wouldn't be here today. So how could you ever become less important when you're the other half of my soul." There were tears and a hug and kiss on heads, but don't tell anyone.
Once someone said that Jace was a freak, and had been tainted by Valentine, that he was damaged, and was most likely just like Valentine — Alec ripped into that person, something he didn't usually do, but he had always been fiercely protective of his family, of Jace. And he would not put up with people calling Jace that or even comparing him to Valentine. Because Alec knows how much people saying that hurt Jace.
Jace gets Alec hilarious dad t-shirts, Alec secretly wears them at home.
One time Alec got frustrated and told Jace and Magnus they were similar so "why the hell did they act like this?" Jace and Magnus both stared at Alec like he was crazy, but later he found Jace and Magnus watching something together.
Alec secretly knows Jace is more responsible than he lets on, and Jace secretly knows Alec is more chaotic than he lets on
After his breakup with Magnus Jace stayed with Alec every night and comforted him, just as Alec always had when Jace had nightmares.
One time they were caught taking a nap together, but they didn't act embarrassed at all, just offended that the rest of the gang interrupted their nap.
One time when Chairman Meow ran away Jace spent the entire day with Alec looking for him, until they found him.
They went to Paris for a mission one time and Alec nudged Jace and said "You're half french and you know the language. What does that say?" It had caught Jace off guard 'cause almost no one mentioned anything to do with him biological mother. and even though it was probably just Alec making a joke, it meant more to Jace than he knew. It had even surprised Jace a little, how much it meant.
When Jace was older he did look into his mother's family, and didn't like what he found, but he'd gotten curious. He came across some thing about his mother, it was Alec who he went to speak his mind to on it all. Alec say and listened, and eventually told Jace he could do more digging or he could let it go, but that he supported him in whatever he chose. Jace did more digging and found out more.
The moment Jace saw Alec after returning from faerie (in TDA), he pulled Alec into a tight hug and they had a tearful moment. Jace apologized for not being there when Robert died, and assured Alec he wished he was. Alec called him an idiot and said he knew, that Jace didn't need to tell him that.
One night when Clary was gone and it had been a hard day Alec came and read to Jace,. because he knew on these days Jace just wanted comfort from those he loved.
Jace loves that Alec and Clary secretly sneak off and get tacos, he loves how much they get along now. And he's a simp for the two people he loves most being mischievous in their own way.
Jace had started to slowly show more emotion as the years went on, and he continued to heal more and more from his childhood. Alec teared up one time at how far he's come, because Alec always wanted him to be happy and healed.
The first time they watched frozen with Max Jace cried and Alec did a little too, but Jace would tear up every time, something Alec was fond of but also found odd, as Jace did not normally act like that.

I HAVE A NEW MALEC HEADCANON/IDEA OMG
This will forever live rent free in my mind but !!!
MAGNUS IN FRAYED JEANS AND LIKE JEANS WITH HOLES IN THE KNEES!! He wears them every once in a while because it makes him feel stylish and he’s ya know keeping up with the✨ trends✨ The first time Alec sees him with them on he’s like “uhm...I managed to marry T H A T?!?” and he won’t stop talking to everyone in the institute about it.

Feliz cumpleaños, Magnus Bane (headcanon)
Todos sabemos que el país favorito de Magnus es Perú; sin embargo, por razones que aún no entendemos (Magnus aún no recibe una respuesta realmente convincente de los Altos Brujos peruanos), nuestro amado brujo aún tiene el ingreso prohibido al país, lo cual es una gran lástima, porque no hay nada más efervescente y mágico que la cultura peruana. Además de ser el lugar donde sucedieron algunas de las mejores anécdotas del glamuroso brujo.
Esto, claramente, no significa un obstáculo para Alexander “romántico sigiloso” Lightwood-Bane.
Para su último cumpleaños, gracias a la ayuda de Ragnor, Catarina y la información escrita en el diario que Magnus le entregó cuando volvieron a retomar su relación (a.k.a. Las crónicas de Bane), Alec pudo descifrar los gustos de su esposo y organizar la mejor fiesta de cumpleaños PERUANA, de todos los tiempos.
Ya se imaginarán cuán grande fue la sorpresa de Magnus cuando esa mañana su esposo condujo, junto con sus hijos, a una hacienda preciosa, a las afueras de la ciudad, donde fueron recibidos en la entrada por un Jace montado en una llama, con un chullo y un colorido poncho arequipeño.
- ¿Nombres?
- Muy gracioso, Jace. Déjanos pasar.
- Disculpe, señor, no sé quién se cree usted, pero tengo órdenes de no hacer ingresar a nadie que no esté en la lista.
- YO te di esa orden, parabaidiota. Ahora déjanos pasar, Max quiere ir al baño hace media hor...
- Disculpe, señor, ¿acaso quiere que mi llama le escupa?
- ¿...Qué?!
- NOMBRES
Después de que la familia Lightwood-Bane terminara de registrarse y pudieran ingresar, fueron recibidos por un colorido espectáculo lleno de bailarines que hacían vibrar la pista de baile con danzas típicas; puestos de comida criolla (ceviche, seco de res, arroz con pollo, carapulcra, picante de cuy - el cual Ragnor evitaba a toda costa - y litros y litros de chicha de molle); y conocidos amigos invitados, todos vestidos según la temática. Magnus Bane no podía creer que esto en verdad estuviera pasando.
- ¿t-tú hiciste todo esto?
- Sé que no puedes viajar a Perú, así que decidí traer Perú a ti.
- Nunca dejas de sorprenderme, Alexander. Por favor, cásate conmigo.
- Ya estamos casados, mi amor. Feliz cumpleaños ;)
El resto de la tarde y noche fueron increíbles. Este sería uno de los cumpleaños más memorables que Magnus haya tenido jamás. Los siglos podrán venir, pero Magnus nunca olvidará haber visto a una Lily bailando el alcatraz con un Elliot bastante ebrio que terminó quemando su vestido. A una Maia vestida de cuzqueña y a un Bat vestido de inca. A una Isabelle devorando un platillo llamado “cuy chactado” y a un Simon vomitando al descubrir que se trataba de una comida hecha a base de conejillo de indias muerto. A una Clary intentando recrear las famosas pinturas faciales de los nativos de la selva peruana. A un Jace comprometido a bailar huayno junto con su llama. A una Catarina con un impresionante vestido de marinera trujillana y a un Ragnor con un sombrero de chalán, montado en un indomable caballo peruano de paso. Y a un Alexander dejándose convencer de tomar un potente licor selvático afrodisíaco, curiosamente llamado “ESTA NOCHE ERES MÍO” (que por supuesto lo iban a comprobar apenas los niños se fueran a dormir).
O, bueno, probablemente sí llegue a olvidar todo eso, dado que Magnus Bane se encuentra profundamente ebrio, pero también profundamente feliz.

1. sirius black - my boy!!! words can’t describe how much sirius came to mean to me over the years. i loved him from “i want to commit the murder i was imprisoned for”. i suppose a lot of what i love about him now is headcanon or was absorbed through fic but even a reread of the books reaffirms his place as my absolute fave.
2. remus lupin - mmm my love for remus created an archetype for fave characters that i’m not sure i’ve broken yet.
3. alex manes - a new contender had entered the ring!! alex became my fave rnm character after “you know i only did this for attention, right?” i’m a big og fan so i didn’t expect to love a new/reimagined character so much!!
