A near-comprehensive list of death and death-like consequences in British Children's Gameshows

Y'know, in case you didn't think us british people were weird enough.

Shows in which death is the consequence for losing:

Terror Towers (1994-1996) - The losing team is eaten by werewolves (off screen). The death is perminant.

Knightmare (1987-1994) - The dungeoneers lose by dying in a variety of different - and graphic - ways. One death clause also effects their advisors. However they are ultimately resurected.

Raven (2002-2010) - The warriors are killed by demons or curses for failing the majority of challenges. However, they are ressurected afterwards, and ultimately leave the compition alive.

Raven: The Island (2006) - Losing warriors are killed if they fail a single challenge or do not attempt a challenge. The death is perminant.

Raven: The Secret Temple/The Dragon's Eye (2007, 2009) - Losing warriors are killed if they fail a single challenge. They are ressurected under certain conditions: 1) Their team has collected enough magic jewels to exchange for their life 2) They haven't been ressurected previously 3) Their elimination takes place during the first three weeks. But if any of the three conditions aren't fufilled, they are dead perminantly.

Prosiect Z/Project Z (2018-?) - Any child that get touched by a zombie becomes a zombie. If the team fails to crack the exit code and escape, they all become zombies. They are seen as zombies on screen, either in person (case A) or through an animation (case B).

Don't Unleash the Beast (2020-?) - Teams that fail to escape the treasure room in time are eaten by the eponymous beast (off screen). The death is perminant.

Fee Fi Fo Yum (2010-2011) - The losing team are eaten alive by the giant holding them captive (on screen). The death is perminant.

Den Of Doom (2007) - Losing kids are eaten by hyenas off screen, but their cooking is shown.

Shows in which a death-like outcome is the consequence for losing:

Escape from Scorpion Island (2007-2011) - The losing team has their souls trapped by the Island

Raven (2017-2018) - Instead of dying after challenges like in the original series, the warriors are sent to a dark dimension. They are still always returned, however.

Trapped!/Trapped! ever after (2007-2010) - Losing children are trapped in a tower of horrors forever.

Relic: Guardians of the Museum (2010) - Losing teams are imprisoned within the muesum exhibits forever.

Mission: 2110 (2010) - Losing children (bar those in 3rd and 4th place) are vapourised and sent to an unknown location in space and time and their safety is in question.

Jungle Run (1999-2006) - At various places in the jungle, failure in a single challenge can result in eternal imprisonment, the most prominant being the Temple of the Jungle King.

Sub Zero (1999-2001) - The losing team is either cryogenically frozen or (in later series) ejected into outer space (NOTE: This is unpleasant but also shown as survivable within the show).

Gwrach y Rhibyn (2022-) - Any losing team is captured by the titular Hag

Show in which death is the consequence for WINNING:

Mission: 2110 (2010) - Due to a continuity error, the winner appears to be vaporised instead of being sent home via time travel, which is what's supposed to happen.

Terror Towers (1994-1996) - The winners become ghosts who haunt the tower forever.

Honourable Mentions!

Splatalot (2011-2013) - The winners are assassinated (off-screen) soon after winning. While the show aired in Britian, as well as Canada and Australia, the assassination is only canon in the Canadian version.

Jedi Temple Challenge (2020) - An American gameshow, as The Mandalorian has canonised it as part of the Star Wars Universe and confirmed its place in the timeline, all the kids that win and become Jedi Knights, and possibly every kid that competes, presumably die in Order 66

I see aplatonics talking about how people assume not having friends means you're an unlikable person and how harmful that can be and it just reminds me of how people will point to assholes and say they don't have friends as an insult but like...I know a lot of assholes with friends. Their friends also tend to be assholes. someone not having friends is not a moral failing. Assholes have people who like them and will hang out with them while the nicest person you know may have no friends at all. so y'know, I'm with the aplatonics and platorepulsed ppl on this one.

yay! I drew these quite literally three years ago. dragonheart!milo and raihan! a knight on a doomed dragon hunt being lifted out of his station by a small village medicine man. together they become magic lawyers and overthrow the government

the main details in these do survive into the iterations I’ve drawn (instead of these actual designs I spent time to make el oh el): the “leaf” diamond quilt/gambeson and the plaited coattail for milo, the “atypical” weapons, long coat, and large number of scattered fake gold trims and accessories for raihan. I think I lost raihan the hat and added a cape for milo further down the line because like this their general silhouettes are too similar for my liking lol

Sometimes I wonder how much Abaddon knew about Tyria. Like, his whole motivation and the cause of his conflict with the other gods was that he wanted to keep the bloodstone unsealed to keep humanity as magically gifted as possible. However, letting more magic into the ecosystem could only accelerate the next Dragon awakening, and Zhaitan waking up right beneath their feet in Arah would have been very bad.

So like, what was Abaddon's plan here? The scroll of the Five True Gods suggests he and the others had at least some knowledge, but did he have a plan here? Or did his nature as the god of magic just compel him to act to maximise the presence of magic on Tyria?

(which, as an aside, there's some evidence (see: Balthazar's refusal to back down from a war with the dragons, the speculation in The Bastion of Knowledge and Abaddon's general obsession with magic) that the power of the gods changes their outlook and moral alignment, pushing them towards the promotion of their domain)

It's possible that, as the god of the ocean, he was in communication with Soo-Wan and had a plan with her to protect humanity in the event of a dragonrise (which would, as a side effect, clear out all the other major civilisations on Tyria, allowing humanity to become the sole masters of the world). But, with all the relevant parties dead any such deal is likely lost to time.

Finally, while I'm on the Abaddon speculation train, I do wonder if it's just a coincidence that the Human god of magic, and the dragon who first split void into Tyrian magic are both aligned with water. Maybe there's some kind of connection between magic, void and the ocean? (incredibly crackpot connection time but, well, mist is just a form of vaporized water... Call me a conspiracy theorist but maybe it's connected man)

Ahem,,,, if it is alright with you then,,,,,, I will talk about my OMARI Basil then,,,,

To answer your question, he was planned to be the delinquent of the group (as per typical swap aus), though over time, I really began to sit down and think about it the more swap aus began to pop up around the fandom. I didn't really like the idea of being a carbon copy of various other omari aus in specific, so during the time I have been absent on here I began to slowly revamp the AU over time. I had to start over with what I originally had in the first place since a lot of the au things in my take on it also had contributions by followers as well!

For Basil, his first concept was initially a delinquent take... but the thing that caused a problem with that was the fact that I had planned for him to also play a sort of "detective" role in this universe, as I had written a short snippet on Basil having caught on to something suspicious going on between the older siblings and Sunny's sudden disappearance.......

Frankly, as much as a delinquent Basil is my darling concept of all concepts, I had to, unfortunately, push it to the side and alter his role in this AU to fit with the revamped look I was going for him... therefore fully integrating him into his "detective" role. In a way though, looking through Mari's perspective, he's sort of a clashing force with her and is equivalent to an antagonist in her own story (but! Keep in mind, Mari in this AU isn't the Mari who you should be sympathizing for.... an unreliable narrator who happens to be a wolf in sheeps clothing....).

As for the emotions, while a lot of people tend to view the emotions being assigned to the characters as their possible role in RW (the happy-go-lucky, the perfect student, the delinquent), for mine I ended up making it were each friend had 2 main emotions.... Basils would be anger and sorrow (Aubrey and Kel tend to have anger as their second emotion, though that is still up for debate! I still have a few things to work out :3). So, in a way you could say that in Headspace they were only ever seen as a one-dimensional character by Mari/Hikkiko, while in the real world, they had a even bigger "mess" of emotions that they all dealt with. In turn, Basil's concept strayed further away from the path of delinquent and more into a path which.... ehehe..... obsession as a concept is such a fun thing to play around with, don't you think?

Just as much as he plays the "investigator", he also is meant to be a parallel of what Mari/Hikkiko is. Obsession has always been a part of his character, and in doing so, you could say I played around with it until I found quite a nice concept with this. Mari/Hikkiko both have a need to keep Sunny around as the perfect brother and therefore paint his Headspace counterpart to their own liking.... while Basil in turn has, on some level, a need to imitate Sunny as closely as he can. Both are a form of obsessions I have given them, and in a way, the only reason Basils is a more "lighter" version of this is because Aubrey, Kel, Hero (sort of), Polly, his grandmother, and Faraway Town as a whole have been there to guide him on a better path. Though his obsession to keep Sunny's memory alive by becoming like him is still there, it's not to say that he doesn't have people to talk some sense into him-- meanwhile Mari does not have that type of support.

Obsession stems from love, at least, in their case. And in the end, it really depends on whether or not they have people who are willing to reel them back into a state of sanity. Basil was, at least in terms of my omari lore, viewed as a delinquent at one point, though he never acted out aggressively towards others unless provoked enough and only ever kept to himself.... eventually the town residents accepted the fact that this was just his way of grieving and treated him with patience and respect, especially with the fact he took it upon himself to go around town and helping around with the little things, though especially with gardening and photography.

it's not to say though, that he doesn't have some... worrying habits. That as in, most of his plants being replaced with tulips and most of the heads of certain plants being chopped off with garden shears, left to rot. While Basil mimics his best friends habits, he isn't exactly the best at fully hiding his feelings and emotions as Sunny was able to. No amount of masquerading will change the fact that once he's laid his sights on you, it'll only be a matter time before he seeks for your head on a silver platter.

#this is…….the thing honestly #and this is why scully is Like That when it comes to how cutthroat and protective she is of him #thinking about ‘paper hearts’ #and how she tells him that he walked in with his heart on his sleeve #and he did #he always does #he keeps doing it #and it’s not that she wants him to stop #this is what she wants to shield #scully has that kind of protectiveness towards him that you have towards a child that hasn’t been touched by the world yet #it’s very #‘the world is at least half terrible though i keep this from my children’ #‘good bones’ by maggie smith #scully in the beginning is like……there is something here that should have broken by now #and she wants to watch him be able to walk into every room with the most hopeful answer and a hand out to every stranger #despite how Frustrating!! it can be and how easily exploited it is and how often it’s used against him #she wants to protect his ability to hope and trust and share so generously with the world #and i adore that about her character because it would be easier for her to tell him to take his heart off his sleeve and open his eyes #she just values that in him so much and she’s so desperate to nurture it and protect it because it’s so special to her #he’s so special to her #and how rare it is that someone whose experienced so much loss and trauma and abuse sees the world the way he does #she doesn’t have to keep the reality of the world from him #he’s seen it his entire life #but he has so much belief in the world anyway #and she’s cautiously running behind #txf.txt #fire
