How real is reality television? When you see something, how has it been manipulated? Grimmy and his gang did it in a light-hearted way; do other shows have their own agenda?

Plus, a look at the claim that The 1% Club is television's biggest game show (it's not, unless you're using a particularly arbitrary definition of "game show". But The 1% Club is very good telly - and sometimes proper drama.)

The thing about Alys Hunter is that she desperately needs to sacrifice herself. Sacrificing herself would fix her in 30 different ways (and make her atlas personality x3 worse). It’s integral to her character. She’s the big sister, she’s meant to look after them! But she can’t. The narrative won’t allow her to. She’s the deuteragonist. She’s just too important to lose.

So instead she’s doomed. She’s always making friends, connecting to people, getting close quickly. Dr Ed Thomas takes her under his wing and trusts her enough to send his daughter to her. She reaches out to a distressed Dr Megan Crane even when all evidence says she can’t be trusted. She barely knows Sara for a day and de-lone-wolf-s her almost completely. She even tries to give a second chance to Nina, for all good that does.

She’s always trying to help, trying to protect. She’d do anything to save the people she loves. And because of that, they’d do anything to save her.

Including sacrifice themselves.

Dr Megan Crane and Mari Thomas get infected to save her. Only luck saves Macs Woodward and Lwsi Hunter from the same fate. And that haunts Alys’ every moment - it should have been her. But don’t worry! She can save them! She has to save them. After all, she’s the big sister…

I need the BBC to re-release series 1 of Last Commanders so badly.

I mean come on? Vennvo (+ wife stories)? Tal? Makira? Agent Kale Carver (my beloved)? Vaygus actually being competent???!!!? Space Pirates? The Morka?! They were awesome villains!

The original jailbreak episode! The biogarden! Insert face!

Also that one scene where they break into Skye’s old bedroom and find the photo of her and Kaladian!Sciron.

I only have access to series 2 episodes, and yes, it was a step up in quality but I still miss series one.

Pre chorus music: The camera zooms away from a girl looking out of a window, birds flying past. Wiley gives a exaggerated sigh.

'In a crooked': Wiley jumps up behind a small tent.

Gladiators on BBC1

Gladiators is back, and it's hit all the right notes.

The theme! The nostalgia! The warm and inclusive feeling!

The complete doofus who thinks he owns the world!

Gladiators never ever forgot that it was entertainment built from a core of sport. The challenges are difficult, they're filmed and presented to make us care. And they've kept entertainment and sport in a great balance, and that makes for inclusive telly.

A few notes for next series. Gauntlet needs to be narrower and/or longer. You need at least one more challenge for variety.

And can you please make sure contender's trainers fit better, because having the Gladiator strip the shoe away is now a format point.

The Traitors series 2

Well, that was fun.

Claudia and another bunch of strangers gather in Scotland. Some of them are a team-within-a-team: find them, eject them, keep the prize for yourself.

There is a mock funeral.

Catapults and crossbows.

A poison chalice.

And whatever the chuff this is.

The Traitors takes us through highs and lows. And it honestly reflects society: this series ruthlessly exposed casual sexism. Maybe we can all learn to do better.

Also: John Travolta does the Birdie Dance, and farewell to a great friend.
