Sharper: The Best Sebastian Stan Movie
*spoilers below the cut*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take note of how I said this is the best Sebastian Stan movie, not Sebastian Stan’s best movie.
Before y’all come for me: I’m not saying his acting in it is poor, but I don’t think this role demanded as much of him as some others. I just said that this is the best movie he’s in, after all. He plays a con artist, and he does it well, which I think says something that the quality of the work is there, in addition to the movie in general. It takes a lot of talent to play someone who is constantly acting and deceiving those around them. Including the audience.
The plot of this movie was set up so interestingly, cut up in multiple sections which covered different characters in each. They are seemingly disconnected, until you see how they all intersect. I was blown away by the intellectual stimulation I got from this storyline and would say it’s probably in my top 10 favorite movies ever.
Now let’s talk about Sebastian himself. I don’t think he looks bad, but his character is a little grody as a person. What else would you expect? In all movies except one, he plays the villain. He’s either hot or a good person, rarely both, and then he’s often a little grody AND a bad person (too often but he considers himself an artist or whatever. Also, is his constant villainy type casting? Better not be.) But anyway, here, I think his appearance paired with his character match well. He’s SUPPOSED to be slimy. He’s SUPPOSED to be sly, cunning, and conniving.
And then for him to be tricked by his own protégé? Expert. Unexpected. Satisfying.
But in all seriousness, his gf/partner playing his mom 🤢
10/10, would watch again and probably will. Just sucked that I had to have Apple TV to watch it. Wish it was a more accessible film because it was my favorite of his and I want everyone to see it

baby's first Marvel movie!!! (not counting Daredevil season 1, bc it's a series but I love it nonetheless)
I'm so excited!!!
Also, yes, I'm watching Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) while doing mathematics. I'm goofy like that (and yes I can multitask like this, been doing it for a decade now... still don't know how)
also, yes, that is a Robin (DC) little, lego figurine in the background, he keeps me safe and calm

The Avengers
The Avengers is a movie about space 9/11. All of the previous movies felt like set up, now this movie is pay off. Is that pay off any good however? Of course it is, it's the fucking avengers.
The basic plot is "loki has the tesseract and is trying to bend the human race into submission so our favorite heros must stop him" but it executes this rather basic plot very well. It does not just set up this high stakes plot but it makes it personal for the heros. Natasha with barton, barton with mind control, steve with the tesseract, thor with it being his brother, and stark with coulson being killed. Banner doesn't stakes for joining until the very end but it still sets up a plausible reason for him joining. A lot of modern super hero stories seem to think shoving high statistical stakes (The city is in danger, the timestream is collapsing, etc) will make the audience care. The Avengers sets up high personal stakes in the conflict as well.
All of the main characters feel like themselves from the past movies, Steve is still grappling with being in a new world, tony is still a diva, banner is still annoyed with his roommate, thor is slightly more mature than past movies but still fairly childish, but natasha does feel slightly different. Natasha is an actual character with actual motivations and not just a standard seductress assassin. They talk about her violent past and her friendship with barton, AND THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS NEVER TURNED ROMANTIC THANK GOD. Barton gets half a character but is nothing special here. Loki feels slightly weaker but does have strong moments. Most importantly his actions feel like just childish rage and not genuine lusts for power.
The messaging and themes are weird and do feel like an alien war on terror. I think it tries to discuss the themes of the government's mistakes with them having hydra weapons on board, Although it never feels like it is trying to say anything specific here, just a "we're becoming like the nazis", which to americans just means "we're becoming like INSERT ANYTHING BAD HERE". It promptly drops this subplot right after loki escapes.
The action scenes all feel great and real, in the last fight scene it takes the time to show us the terror of the people on the ground. I love the designs of all the characters, they feel more vibrant and distinct. The set design and costuming even outside of suits is great.(steve dresses like an old dude) The dialogue does cut the tension a little bit and it was starting to get a little joke heavy, but its not as bad as later films.
Overall a great superhero team up movie that feels earned, and feels like genuine payoff from the previous films. Not to many deep messages or themes and to many jokes for my tastes but i don't think it wanted to do that. The biggest problem is how many people on this app would freely submit to loki.

“DUMB MONEY”
“Dumb Money” is based on a true story, but unless you regularly watch CNN or dabble on the stock market with a smart phone app you’ve probably never heard of it.
The events of the story are fairly recent (2019 to mid 2021). Keith Gill (Paul Dano) shared his theories about the stock market on Reddit. He thought the GameStop stock (retail video game stores) was undervalued because deep pocket investors and investment companies were betting against it. Gill’s enthusiasm about GameStop motivated a legion of fans to buy shares in the company. This caused “yadda yadda yadda”. (I can already see your eyes glaze over as you read this.)
And that’s the problem with “Dumb Money” - lots of talk about the stock market and lots of characters; it’s gets boring. Despite this Paul Dano, with his round face and soft marshmallow body, is likable in his Everyman role. Dano is good in everything I’ve seen him in, from “Little Miss Sunshine” to his turn as a serial killer villain in “The Batman”.
The “Dumb Money” has lots of villains as well - institutional investors played by Seth Rogan, Vincent D'Onofrio, and an especially slimy Sebastian Stan. Plus Dane Dehaan as an officious store manager. It’s fun seeing them shit their pants and lose hundreds of millions of dollars in a single day. (But in reality they were already so rich, it probably didn’t really impact them.)
But truthfully, my biggest complaint about the movie is a song played repeatedly throughout the film - “Pussy, Money, Weed” by Lil Wayne. Keith Dill’s user name on YouTube (and the app formerly know as Twitter) was Roaring Kitty. Someone thought it was be a good idea to use Lil Wayne’s tune as Gill’s theme song. I have never heard the word “pussy” said so many time in less that 2 hours. I never want to hear the word “pussy” again in my life!
Rather than invest $12 of your hard earn cash on a ticket for “Dumb Money”, I recommend skipping it and rewatching your favorite Paul Dano from your streaming library.

Okay I’ve watched Ghosted and here are my thoughts!
Tumblr media
(that nobody asked for 😅).
Disclaimer, this movie gets a pass because it reunited Chris and Sebastian (and Mackie) and because Chris is SO DARN PRETTY with that beard and fluffy hair. 🥵
Firstly I’ll start with what I wasn’t so keen on and get that out of the way:
( don’t go into this movie expecting high art, don’t think too deeply about anything on screen and you won’t be disappointed)
- Almost all the problems I had with the movie I attribute to the bad script and bad direction (Sorry Dexter and co 😬).
- Unfortunately the character Chris is playing is let down by the writing, at times he’s just an unlikeable character.
- I wish they could have found a better plot device to get him to London and involved with Sadie’s mission without resorting to him stalking her . I think it would have been better if Sadie and Cole had been kidnapped near the end of their first date and Cole was just dragged along for the ride (and just ditched the whole ‘Ghosted’ concept- the title didn’t really pay off anyway)
- They made Cole a walking red flag 🚩 basically
- And I’m sorry to all the fans of Chris and Ana together, but I just don’t see the chemistry that all the other characters are talking about. Note: if you keep telling the audience that they have chemistry and sexual tension it doesn’t make it more believable 🫣
- I know it’s a rom com, but at times it’s just really saccharine and cheesy, especially at the beginning.
- The wigs are terrible and very distracting at times 😅
- Overall I think the movie just takes itself too seriously, it would have been much funnier if they had gone down the route of being a spoof and satire.
Okay now onto the things I loved about this movie :
- Chris is unbelievably hot, he looks really good here and I can’t wait for all the talented people on tumblr to gif it to death
- I think Ana and Chris did the best with what they had to work with. I think they could have given much better performances if they had better material.
- I think Chris showed good comedic ability at different points throughout the movie (and with stronger direction would have been really good and consistently funny) I think he was plenty believable as a fish out of water, naive and slightly goofy, small town boy !
- Seeing Chris as a farmer really did things to me 😩 why does he look so hot in waders standing in water?? In a beekeepers outfit ??? Seriously this man can make anything look hot 🥵
- I thought the actress who played his sister was really good 😊
And the main event !
Drum roll 🥁 we got a SEBASTIAN CAMEO !!!
The movie is at its best when they aren’t taking themselves too seriously - that’s why the part with John, Seb and Anthony is personally my favourite part.
Seeing Sebastian back on screen with Chris, looking like a stucky AU was like fanfiction come to life (that’s why this movie gets a pass regardless of messy plot holes 😂) . I don’t know what else to say that hasn’t already been said, but it just makes me so happy 😁
Seb proved again that he’s good at the comedy schtick! (I really hope his action-comedy movie happens now🤞🏼) and he also looked sexy as hell with the tousled hair and bangs. They both are truly too beautiful for their own good, on screen together they are powerful and overwhelming (that’s why he had to die so quickly 😉) PLEASE release behind the scenes of this!!! Dexter, I know I called your directing crappy, but pretty please 🥺
Also wtf was the Ryan Reynolds cameo?? It wasn’t even funny and completely unnecessary

finally watched the movie Fresh today.
the irony of how it accurately shows the reality of women dating in modern society, with both sides of pure seriousness and comedic undertones.
the delight of seeing a woman biting a predators dick, to escape & telling them to smile, before you kill them, is peak
“final girl moves”.

I just watched Sharper. It was a good premise that was sadly let down by the resolution.
All the actors in this were amazing, even though individually their roles were all fairly small. The most interesting were Sandy, Max and Madeline's characters because the actors were so good at subtly conveying their real thoughts behind the con.
Brianna Middleton was just...mesmerising to watch. She's the one we see the most of in terms of her real self, and that gives her the opportunity to go across a range of very different characterisations as well as character development. She had such range and confidence despite being a newcomer, and she's got a wonderfully expressive face that lets her telegraph a lot of small emotions. I think Seb's right, we're going to see a lot more of her in coming years.
Max and Madeline were incredibly unlikable characters, but Julianne Moore and Sebastian just owned the scenes. To see them transition effortlessly between charming to threatening to shrilly violent to dumb hick to selfish nonchalance all within minutes is just...riveting.
I love Sebastian's/Max's final close-up, the way he watches a raging Madeline, and his eyes just has that glimmer of amusement and...am I reading too much into this, but pride? I don't know if Max was in on the scheme (I don't think he's got the conscience for it but he probably enjoyed getting back at Madeline) but he must feel pleased that he's taught such a good con.
TL;DR - recommended watch for the acting and the idea, disappointing climax although an overall satisfying conclusion.

I think the success of this movie encouraged its structure to be copied into the other MCU movies/shows. Strong setups, strong premises, weak middles, with a payoff that only serves as an ad for the next possible movie/show.
Captain America: The First Avenger is a 2011 American superhero film directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci.

A “QUICK!” Review of “Ghosted (2023)”
Tumblr media
I love Chris Evans.
I also love Ana De Armas.
However, they have no chemistry together.
Doesn't help when all the couple do is argue throughout the film. Introduced arguing, and even the whole second act is them arguing. The action scenes are mediocre and plot itself is boring.
Just an uninteresting and uninspired movie. Hard to believe this director made Rocketman because this is a rocket that doesn't even launch.

Dumb Money movie review
Tumblr media
This review is delayed, by almost a month after its release date. Yet it is better to be late then never, especially as a now review can still be beneficial to some who are waiting for it to come to a online streaming service.
Now, dumb money is based on a true story of the 2021 game stop short squeeze. This was led by Keith Gill, at the time he was a stock market reddit senstion that inspired many people to also invest in the game stop company. As the film starts we see the peek of the stock moment, where the billonares was becoming threatened yet Keith was only becoming a millioniare. At the start we have wap by Cardi B playing which makes the moment being shown more funnier, as well as having a sex joke in the first 5 minutes of the film just before the movie name came onto screen.
After the movie name screen was shown, we are taken back six months to where we see one of Keiths friends labelling the idea of him investing in the stock market as dumb. Yet as it progresses we learn the pros and the cons of how investing in the stock market can be. Especially for both sides of Billionares and working class. How its in away to earn easy money, yet the more you buy stocks the more addicting it can become.
Even in Keiths case he shared his investing with the world, on reddit and on youtube, which led to a court case of him being fined 4 million for violation of the massachusetts rules. Which he mentions he did not violate, and it is found that he stayed investing after the case, only becoming richer. Yet the billionares involved such as Vlad Tenev, Kenneth Griffin, Gabe Plotkin and Baiju Bhatt, lost billionares both before and after the court case, becoming sued for bailing each other out.
Overall, this film teaches a great deal in stock market investing, just like the wolf of wall street did (also based on a true film), as well as showing the down falls and greatness of investing. The film also shows alot of tiktok based nostalgia from the era of 2020/2021 and its trends. Despite its comical humour and the sexual jokes. The story of this movie is educational to watch without becoming bored.
Over all I rate this movie a 4.1 out of 5.

The Devil All the Time- Movie Review
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Devil All the Time, released in 2020, is a movie that will leave you both haunted and enthralled. This gripping film delves deep into the dark recesses of human nature, weaving together a web of interconnected stories that explore the depths of despair, faith, and the sinister consequences of unchecked obsession.
Set in a small town in post-World War II America, the movie introduces us to a cast of characters whose lives intertwine in unexpected and disturbing ways. From the tormented war veteran Willard Russell (played by Bill Skarsgård) to the sinister preacher Reverend Preston Teagardin (portrayed by Robert Pattinson), each character brings their own brand of darkness and complexity to the narrative.
The Devil All the Time excels in its ability to create an atmosphere of eerie tension. The cinematography is gritty and atmospheric, capturing the gloomy landscapes and decaying surroundings that mirror the characters' inner turmoil. The performances are stellar across the board, with standout portrayals by Tom Holland, Riley Keough, and Jason Clarke, who bring their characters to life with a haunting authenticity.
What sets this movie apart is its unflinching exploration of the darkness that resides within individuals. It tackles themes of religious fanaticism, corruption, and the cyclical nature of violence. The narrative unfolds at a deliberate pace, allowing the audience to unravel the layers of secrets and unveil the unsettling truths that lie beneath the surface.
Spoiler alert: Sheriff Bodecker took the whole unraveling a little too hard.
The Devil All the Time doesn't shy away from the disturbing and unsettling aspects of its story. It forces viewers to confront the depths of human depravity and the consequences of unchecked obsessions. It's a movie that lingers in your mind long after the credits roll, challenging your perceptions and leaving you with a sense of unease. In conclusion, The Devil All the Time is not your average movie. Its haunting atmosphere, exceptional performances, and thought-provoking themes make it a unique and unforgettable cinematic experience. Prepare to be drawn into a world where darkness lurks around every corner and secrets have devastating consequences. If you're ready to embark on a gripping journey into the depths of the human psyche, The Devil All the Time is a must-watch.

The Covenant (2006)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
The Covenant is a laughable attempt to give us the teenage boys’ answer to The Craft. It’s not the exact same movie but it feels like what you’d get if you replaced the goths with jocks. Filled with useless characters, a confusing mythology, horrible performances, lacklustre special effects and a dismal script, I suspect those watching will fall into one of two camps: those who will be bored to tears and those who will find it unintentionally hysterical.
The American town of Ipswich was partially founded by five families of witches. In modern day, their descendants possess magical abilities which manifest on their 13th birthday and grow stronger until they “Ascend” at age 18. At their strongest, they can bend the world to their every whim - but each use of their powers will cause them to age. Caleb (Steven Strait), Pogue (Taylor Kitsch), Reid (Toby Hemingway) and Tyler (Chace Crawford) use their magic to get back at bullies, impress girls and have a good time. With Caleb’s 18th birthday coming up, he’s become cautious about using his abilities. Spell-slinging has the tendency to become addictive. When a student is found dead of unexplainable causes on campus, Caleb wonders if Reid - the most reckless of the group - is responsible.
The film is simultaneously as predictable as the face of a clock and completely bewildering. The reason for this is the cast. All four of the boys and nearly every other male attending Spencer Academy look the same. Their personalities are shallow, the character development all but non-existent. If someone doesn’t have a wildly different haircut than the rest, you’ll have trouble remembering who they are. When we learn who is responsible for the campus murder, you'll think "I should’ve seen it coming". The hints dropped are not subtle but you’ll still wonder if this is the first time we're shown them.
Your only hope is to keep track of every character by giving them nicknames. The main character is “Discount Jacob”. The guy with the blonde hair is “Draco Malfoy”. The girl falling for Discount Jacob is Future Hostage/Sarah (Laura Ramsey). You’ll probably remember Pogue because his name’s so weird. Also, he’s dating the other (useless) female character, Kate (Jessica Lucas). I don’t want to sound mean but it’s true. The ladies in this movie might as well be valuable lamps the villain threatens to break. They’re powerless compared to the wizards and contribute nothing to this story. Their principal role (besides being put in danger) is to confirm that, despite all hints of the contrary, the four best friends are definitely not gay. Isolated clips will make you think this film is about a love quadrangle between four very handsome, very fit teenagers but “no homo dude, I’m kissing a girl in this scene”.
The story is a hodge-podge of clichés and discount-bin tropes. Your brain is already sizzling from the strain required to keep track of the characters and the ludicrous, poorly-established mythology. There’s no way you could become invested in the story even if it were any good. “I’m going to make you my Wee-yotch!” Is probably the worst line uttered in any film made in 2006. “Come to save little Ms. Muffet, have we?” Is another solid contender. These are the most obvious examples of bad dialogue, but there’s no shortage of it.
Director Renny Harlin and writer J. S. Cardone get the big things wrong and the details too. Take an early scene in which Future Hostage Sarah is in the communal shower. She gets spooked by strange noises and then hurries away in her towel, walking nervously while her eyes dart in every direction. Either she A) undressed in her room and walked through the long, dark corridors practically naked, or she left all of her clothes behind. Either way, in the process, she shows us three of the five rooms in the high school. Or is it high school? None of these actors LOOK like teenagers and we learn the villain did something bad on their 18th birthday, which was some time ago… Everyone owns cars or motorcycles, there’s an extended scene in a bar. Nothing makes sense.
The Covenant feels like a bad CW show, a brainless knockoff of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that’s gotten lost in the shuffle and accidentally ended up on the big screen. Most of it you just can’t believe someone looked at during the editing and said “yeah, let’s go with that”. It’s frequently laugh-out-loud funny in ways it never intended to be and the cherry on top of the sundae has to be the ending. It contradicts a point The Covenant was repeatedly making during the whole film AND sets things up for a sequel. Even back in the day, I could’ve told you that wasn’t going to happen. (March 20, 2020)
