Pairing: Niner Skirata x Reader (GN)
Giftee: @lucifidious From: @523rdrebel
Rating: SFW
Word Count: 2,033
Warnings: Descriptions of battle, explosions, hurt/comfort, mild descriptions of injury and blood, Kissing and some suggestive language.
Summary: You're stubborn and self sufficient but when you get injured Niner insists on making sure you're taken care of properly. Over a series of dangerous missions, you and Niner become closer hitting a breaking point when you defy direct orders to save him.
You wince as pain shoots up your leg, you suck in a pained breath as you step quickly but gingerly towards your quarters. You were sure you’d been successful at avoiding the eyes of your squad mates and hiding your pained hobble when you entered your quarters.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Kriff. “Sir– Did you need something?”
Niner takes a few long strides towards you, standing before you with a disapproving look in his eyes. He glances pointedly at your injured side.
You huff, “I’m fine.”
He reaches down and presses a hand into your side. You fail to bite back a yelp as sharp pain shoots down your side. Niner crosses his arms and stares at you, expression deadpan, “Yes. You’re completely fine. My mistake.” He holds your gaze, waiting for you to break but you’re too determined and stubborn to be reasonable right now. He growls out a low, “Sit.”
You cross your arms over your chest, feeling audacious and petulant, “Is that an order, sir?”
“That depends on you. And I assure you it will be better for you if it isn’t.”
You sit on the edge of your bed, taking the hit to your pride with all the elegance of a pouting child, and you groan as the sharp, shooting pain is renewed.
“Niner…” You try to placate his worry but the words sound unconvincing even to yourself, “It’s not that bad. A little bacta, a little rest, and I’ll be right as rain. There’s no need to make a fuss.”
He kneels down, gently adjusting your position to get a better view of the injury. He pauses a moment. “You got a problem with asking for help, burc'ya?”
“–I can handle it.”
“I don’t doubt you can manage, stubborn thing that you are, but the point is that you don’t have to.” When you’re silent once again, he continues, “You have two choices: You can allow me to take a look at this and patch you up right now or I can call Fi in here to sedate you and take you over to the Med-station.”
You mumble a few curses under your breath, but you shake your head, “Fine.”
Niner nods and assists you in removing sections of your armor, revealing the impressive gash that had been a result of one unfortunately close explosion. Heavy bits of shrapnel had pinned and crushed your plasteel shin plates through your under suit and into your thigh. The wound had only deepened as it was left untreated through the remainder of the mission.
He proceeds to gently clean the wound, apply the bacta and wrap the wound firmly. All the while he gives you the silent treatment, his brows furrowed and there is a tense weight hovering over you both.
You wait with bated breath for the reprimand you are certain is coming. You’re a liability. You’re stubborn. You lack trust in your squad. If you had just been honest, it wouldn’t have gotten this bad. If you had just paid more attention to your surroundings, you wouldn’t have gotten injured in the first place. You left yourself vulnerable.
But the reprimand never comes. Niner finishes patching you up, then sighs and you could swear you heard him whisper your name ever so softly. He stands up to hover over you, eyes darting over your face, seemingly searching for something.
“In the future, when you are injured I expect you to be honest. Report to me or Fi immediately for medical care. Is that understood?”
“Yes, sir.”
“You are not made less because you need help. You are part of this squad– You’re no use to me dead. Speak up next time.” With that, Niner exits your quarters, leaving you with a peculiar feeling of warmth and questions you dared not ask.
The Separatist base shook with another explosion, this one much closer than the last, and debris flew down the corridor behind you. You raced after Darman and Atin with the others, everyone limping, bruised and battered from one too many close calls, but were spurred on by the imminent destruction of the Separatist base.
“Now that you’re done rearranging the architecture, Darman– Give me a sitrep.”
“Got some heat on our shebs, but we’re upright and breathing, Sarge.”
“Get to the extraction point–” the next words were cut out with static, “we’re done here.”
“On our way, sir.”
The squad moves in tandem, eyes darting in every direction and blaster bolts flying to take out the pursuing droid forces. The terrain is rocky, cliffs high on either side dropping loose rocks over your heads. Once both teams neared the extraction point, a clearing surrounded by various rock formations, the droids redoubled their efforts, pulling out higher grade explosives and plasma rockets. Blaster bolts fly in all directions and explosions litter the area behind you, “Things are getting shaky, Sarge!” You shout over comms as you run.
Niner’s voice crackles back in response, “Double-time it, then! Get your shebs to the extraction point!”
Soon after, Niner and the rest of the squad come into view guarding the perimeter, he motions to you directing everyone past him. “Go! I’m right behind you!”
You run, glancing quickly behind you watching as Niner goes to follow after you. Just then a sniper-droid’s shot lands, piercing into a weak point in his armor and causing him to double over. You stop in your tracks and another explosion shakes the ground, followed by the cracking, crumbling sound of falling rocks. You don’t hesitate, ignoring Niner’s order to run, instead you engage the energy shield on your vambrace to its highest setting and run, tackling Niner to the ground, pushing him out of the path of the falling rocks. It works, to a point. You are both out of the direct path of the rocks and don’t get hit directly, but land in a small depression in the ground. The rocks collapse all around you, closing in over top of you leaving little room, and little air. The only thing keeping you from being crushed, is your energy shield. You know it isn’t designed to withstand this level of weight and pressure, so it won’t last forever. You hold your position, angled over Niner, with your arm positioned above you, shield active, with the pressure of tons of rock slowly crushing you.
 “I told you to run.”
“That was before you got shot and nearly flattened by rocks. You’re welcome, by the way.”
“You disobeyed a direct order.”
“Mission parameters changed. Happens all the time.”
“It was reckless and stupid. You and the rest of the squad would be off planet right now if you’d followed orders.”
“You really think we would’ve left here without you?” You pause, the shock of realization running through you, “Oh– You do. Niner–Sir, our squad is nothing without you. At least, I know I wouldn't be here if it weren’t for you.”
“Heh– You’ve always been too hard on yourself. I’m not the reason you’ve come this far. That’s all you. But if we get out of this– Follow my kriffing orders.”
“Yes, sir…" You roll your eyes and sigh, "Now you should rest, we don’t know how long we’ll be in here and I’d rather not die by suffocation.”
The medbay is bright white and sterile, with constant sounds of monitors beeping, medical droids speaking in their robotic tones, and GAR Medics attending to their myriad of patients. You were laid up in your medical bed, forced to submit to periodical scannings and medical applications as you recovered from your mission. Niner had been cleared only a few days prior, as you had taken the brunt of the damage holding up the crushing weight of rocks that closed you and Niner in. You did not remember how long you’d been stuck there, only the blinding light as your Squad dug you from the rubble and the blessed bliss of darkness as you finally succumbed to exhaustion.
“You’re actually in the Medbay, and I didn’t even have to threaten to sedate you.” Niner leaned against the wall across from your bed, offering you a slight smirk.
You huffed a laugh followed by a wince at the sharp pain it caused, “What can I say, you’re pretty convincing when I’m exhausted and can’t think straight.”
“So getting you exhausted is the key to getting you to actually take care of yourself?” He chuckled, a warm, low rumble that you never tired of hearing.
Your eyes widen and you choke out, “That’s certainly one way…”
A few moments of silence followed, an interesting electric tension hovering between you, and Niner crosses the room to pull up a stool and sit next to your bed. His face softens in a way you’ve rarely seen as he speaks, “You scared me for a while. I wasn’t sure you’d make it–”
“I did make it though. Besides, you would’ve been fine without me.”
“No.” He shakes his head and looks down at the floor, “No I don’t think I would be.”
“I don’t– Niner, I don’t understand.” There was another tense moment before he responds.
“I’ve lost a lot of people, a lot of brothers, and I don’t think I could handle losing you, too.”
“Niner– You didn’t lose me. I’m right here.”
“I–I know. So I need you to promise you’ll be more careful, since I can’t count on you to follow orders.” He glances back up at you, a light playful smile on his lips.
You couldn’t help but smile in return, “The situation changed, Niner!” You sigh, he was right, as much as you hated to admit it, “But I will try to be more careful. Promise.”
“See that you do. Rest up. I need you out there.”
He stands up and makes his way to leave but hesitates and turns to regard you once more. He opens his mouth but seems to think better of it, nods, and leaves the medbay.
You made your way to Niner’s quarters, data pad in hand with proof of your medical clearance to return to duty. You stand at attention at the door waiting for the sensor to approve your entrance, clenching and unclenching your hands against the unexpected nerves you feel. It’s Niner! You shouldn’t be nervous. What was wrong with you?
The door opens with a ‘chk’ and you step inside, “Sir?” You wait for Niner to nod before continuing, “I've recovered and I've been cleared for duty.”
He shakes his head– was that disappointment on his face?- “Hmm. I’m not sure I’m ready to let you back out there yet.”
Your brow furrows in confusion and you resist shifting uncomfortably from one foot to the other, “Niner– Here’s my medical report. I’ve been cleared.” You hold out the data pad to him.
He approaches to stand very close, intimately close, takes the data pad from your hand and places it on his desk without more than a glance. “If you’re going back out there then we need to set something straight.” His hand comes up, grabbing your chin between his thumb and forefinger, and tilts your face up.
You suck in a breath, holding it in heated anticipation. Your reply is breathy, “Oh, such as?”
He closes his eyes, as if savoring the moment, “I need you to tell me not to kiss you.”
“What?”
His voice is low, and the gruff rumble hits you in a wave that leaves you shaky, “I've wanted to kiss you since you came barreling into my life. Problem is, if I do, I don't think I'll be able to stop.”
You sigh, leaning into the touch of his hands, one now on your waist, the other still holding your chin firmly in place, “And what if I want you to kiss me?”
The smirk on his face gave you all the answer you needed, “Then who am I to refuse?”
He leans in and captures your mouth with his own, it’s a hungry, needy kiss and your body responds before you can think. You sigh as he pulls you closer, flush against him, and deepens the kiss. You now understand why he hesitated, because now that he was kissing you, finally, desperately kissing you, you never wanted him to stop.

Can i ask for Niner? Maybe it's a romantic night where the reader and Niner decide to start a family. Take it to places as you wish.
Family Discussions
Summary: After a perfect date, Niner finally tells you what's been on his mind.
Pairing: Niner Skirata x F!Reader
Word Count: 1117
Warnings: Discussions of a family planning sort
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: I'm sorry that this took so long. I think this has been sitting in my inbox since Christmas, but I was so sick, and it took me a while to get back into the swing of things after I recovered. Not an excuse, just an explanation. I hope this is close to what you wanted though.
Tumblr media
Niner really did plan the perfect day for the pair of you.
From breakfast in bed (waffles and bacon and eggs with fresh squeezed juice…and you didn’t even know you had fresh fruit-) to the morning spent at your favorite museum, and then lunch at a restaurant you’re both fond of, and the afternoon spent at the botanical gardens (though you were more lost in him then in the pretty plants).
And now here you are, back at home, with sore legs and aching feet, and so deliriously happy that you feel like you can burst.
Niner is making dinner for the both of you, even though you said that you could do it, so you’re sitting at the kitchen table, with your head resting on the palms of your hands, as you watch him with an expression so love struck that Niner’s ears are turning red.
He laughs and glances at you, “Cyare, if you keep staring at me like that I’m going to make a mistake, and then all of the testing I did on my brothers will be for nothing.”
“I’m not looking at you in any special way.” You counter, “This is how I always look at you. From the day that we met.”
“Hm, you mean the day that I spilled paint on you and you spent a whole fifteen minutes cursing at me?” Niner asks as he shoots you an amused look.
“I don’t recall that,” You sniff, “Couldn’t have been me, must have been my evil twin.”
“Oh, naturally,” Niner turns back to the dinner, “Funny, we’ve been dating for almost two years now, and this is the first I’ve heard of an evil twin. She must have slipped your mind.” He teases.
“Mm, she’s very shameful. You know, throwing orphans in trees and burning down pet stores-”
Niner’s head falls back as he bursts out laughing, “Throwing orphans into trees?”
You grin at his back, pleased that you made him laugh like that, “Yeah. Totally.”
He glances at you with a grin, and then glances at the food. Once he’s sure that the meal isn’t going to burn, he turns the heat down and turns to look at you fully, “Come here, cyare.”
Immediately you get to your feet and hurry to his side, your arms sliding around his waist as soon as you’re close enough. Niner grins at you and sets his hands on your shoulders, though one of his hands almost immediately slides back into your hair.
“Did you have a nice day, cyare?”
“I had a great day.” You correct as you lean into his body and press your face against his chest, “It was perfect, thank you for planning it.”
“Well, I had some help from Kal’buir, but you’re welcome.” Niner kisses the top of your head, and he falls silent for a moment, “Cyare,” he says softly, “I’ve been thinking-”
You pull back slightly so you’re able to look at his face. Niner looks nervous, which is unusual for him. “What about?”
“About you…and me. And Us.”
“Oh. Good things I hope?”
He laughs, and his hand leaves your shoulder to brush your cheek, “Amazing things.” He reassures, “You’re perfect. You know that?”
You preen under his praise, “I am pretty amazing.”
“You are,” Niner agrees, “Soft, and warm and so kriffing amazing-” He trails kisses down the side of your face, momentarily distracted from what he was trying to say.
You giggle, and slide your hands up to his face, “As much as I love the praise, darling, you were trying to say something.”
He blinks at you, “Oh. Right. Hold on, I need to go get something-”
Niner carefully releases you, and hurries into the other room, and you shake your head as you check on the food.
He bursts back into the room and presses something into your hand, “Here! Tell me what you think?”
You take the datapad and look at the screen for a moment, a curious frown crossing your face, “Hold on, what am I-...” You trail off as you zoom in, “Is this a house plan?”
“Yeah? I designed it, and my brothers are helping me build it-” He says nervously, “There will be a garden, for you to plant your flowers, and a sun room for your succulents, and four bedrooms, so there will be room enough for us to have kids-”
“Niner,” You gently interrupt him, “I’m getting the feeling that today was part of a plan to butter me up for something. Just tell me, please?”
He nervously rubs the back of his neck, “I want to have a family with you.” Niner pauses and then flashes a wry smile and corrects himself, “I want to start a family with you, but this apartment is too small for a family-”
“Niner.”
“I love you.” He says, “More than I ever thought I would love anyone. And I know I can’t marry you, though you deserve a wedding and a ring and whatever else that people have at weddings, but I can’t give you that. But I can give you kids and a home, if you’ll accept them.”
You gaze at him thoughtfully, “I would like to be moved in, properly, before I go and have my implant removed. Moving while pregnant sounds awful.”
“Wait, you-”
You smile at him, warm and soft and loving, “There was never any chance that I was going to say no, Niner. I love you just as much as you love me, and I’ve been thinking about having a family of our own too.”
You carefully set the datapad down on the table, and then cross the room to slide your arms around his waist again, and he grins at you, “Kal’buir said that you would, but it felt wrong to assume.” Niner says, “We already have the land, we just need to start actually building.”
You reach up and press a single finger against his lips, “How about,” You offer, “We worry about the future tomorrow, and tonight we just worry about being together.”
Niner’s hands come up to cup your face, “I’d marry you in a heartbeat if I could.”
“And I’d say yes if the offer was made,” You reply, “I’m sure Kal can come up with a solution for us. Later.”
He laughs and kisses you deeply, “Point made, cyare. I’ll worry about that in the morning.” He kisses you again and again, “Dinner, and then dancing, and then I’m going to spend all night showing you just how much I love you.”
“Stars, I’m not going to be able to do anything tomorrow,” You mumble against his lips.
Niner grins, “That’s the plan, sweetheart.”

Tumblr media
“Cyar’ika… Please come back.” Niner’s deep voice is behind you, following you out of 79s.
Your chest tightens at the term of endearment, but you ignore him, knowing that if you look at him… at those big brown eyes… you’ll end up cracking… and breaking… You should’ve known better than to get drunk with Niner… that’s on you.
“Get back here now.” He practically commands you.
“Or what?” You spit back, continuing to walk away.
You definitely weren’t expecting his fingers around your wrist. And you definitely weren’t expecting him to spin you around and pull you against his chest, only to gently grab your chin to look up at him. It’s too close… It’s too intimate… It’s too much. The flutter in your stomach is too much.
“You really don’t like to listen, do you?” He muses.
You shrug, jerking your chin away from his strong fingers. “Let go of me.”
It’s a warning. With a sigh, he releases you.
“I wish you’d just talk to me…” He murmurs.
You couldn’t talk to him… Not when you felt like this. Not when he feels like this. You start to walk away again, not wanting to stick around to talk.
“You need to tell Fi.” He calls out.
Like hell you did. “Kiss my ass, sarge.”
When you get in the cab, you head back to the barracks, knowing you’re definitely not going to be able to sleep now.
You’d drunkenly, and stupidly you might add, told Niner that you’d wanted him first… when you first became a pilot. He was who you wanted. But he was distant and weary of you, so you eventually just let it go. You let him go. Or so you thought…
Fi had taken an instant interest in you, always flirting and teasing. How could you say no? You fell pretty quick for Fi. But there was always that little tiny part in the back of your head that just couldn’t let Niner go.
“You’re back.” Fi looks up from his bunk, delighted, the blue glow of his datapad lighting up his handsome face. “Did you and Sarge have a good time?”
You wordlessly crawl over him in between him and the wall, snuggling into his side. “Too tired…”
He chuckles, placing a soft, sweet kiss to your forehead. “Well, we can talk about it in the morning.”
“Don’t want to.” You accidentally let slip out.
You dummy… Why couldn’t you have just said goodnight?
“What? Why?” He tosses his datapad to the end of the bunk and looks down at you. “Did something happen?”
You hear the door open and Fi turns his head, finding Niner strolling in. He must’ve gotten a cab right after you. You try to look away, but Fi catches on.
You’re grateful right then that Darman and Atin are gone, doing who knows what for the night.
“What happened?” Fi asks Niner.
“Did you tell him?” Niner asks, thinking that the answer is going to be yes.
“No.” You groan, hiding your face behind your hands.
“I used to like you, you know.” You chuckle.
Niner’s eyebrows raise up. “Did you?”
“I did.” You nod.
“But Fi-”
“Before Fi… it was you.” You murmur, taking a sip of your drink.
“I had an inkling.” He apologizes in a way.
“Oh. Great.” You shrug.
“Why didn’t you say-”
“Because I thought you didn’t approve of me… I was a pilot and not a clone and you weren’t the most warm person…”
“Fi was.”
You nod. Fi was the most warm. Still is.
“I’m sorry… if I could-” He murmurs.
“Don’t…” You whisper, shaking your head, unable to look at him.
“If I could, I would do something about it.” He continues anyway.
You look at him now. “Like get rid of me?”
He smiles, softly. “Like tell you that I love you, too.”
You nearly drop your drink, confused. Love? Why would he say this now, knowing that your heart lies with Fi… with his vode?
Angrily, you get up and start toward the door, leaving the bar. Walking away from him…
Fi looks between you and Niner, eyes begging for someone to tell him what’s going on. How are you supposed to tell the love of your life that you were in love with his brother before him? What if he thinks that you only chose him as a backup when that’s not what happened at all? What if he doesn’t look at you the same way again? Are you prepared to lose Fi? The answer is no. But the look on his face is so heartbreaking that you know that you just can’t lie to him.
“I…” You start, quietly, sitting up on the edge of the bunk, looking up at Fi.
Why would Niner do this to you? Why would he put you in this position?
Because he loves you and he knows that you still love him…
Fi kneels down beside you, looking at you, softly. “Cyar’ika… you know you can tell me anything.”
“I know…” You nod, trying to breathe.
Fi hands you a canteen with water in it and you take a sip and then a large gulp, just trying to figure out what to say. Honestly, the moment is incredibly sobering.
You sit the canteen down on the floor and look at Niner, who’s sitting in his bunk across from Fi’s. “Before I fell in love with you… I was in love with Niner…”
Fi lets a chuckle slip and you look up at him with furrowed brows. “I already know this. The whole squad knows this.”
Well, that’s embarrassing.
“A part of me… still does.” You murmur. “Love him, that is… And he loves me too…”
“Is that what this is about? You scared me… I thought something serious happened.” Fi kisses you on the forehead and sits next to you.
“You’re not angry?” You ask him, confused.
“Of course not.” He rests an arm around your shoulders, pulling you to him and then looking up at Niner. “I’m honestly surprised it took you this long to tell her, Sarge.”
“I don’t understand…” You pull away to look at him.
“You still love me, right?” Fi smiles.
“Of course.” You nod. “More than anything.”
“And you love Sarge, here, too.” Fi’s smile doesn’t falter even a little bit.
This is the most confusing night of your life.
“Right…” You murmur, looking over at Niner and find that he’s actually smiling at you.
Your chest tightens at the sight.
“So… we share you…?” Fi suggests, looking between you and Niner.
Your eyes return to your partner.
“You’d really be okay with that?” You ask him.
“We’re vode… we’ve probably shared worse.” Fi chuckles.
That’s both somehow endearing and gross.
“There’s no probably about it. We definitely have.” Niner chuckles.
Fi smirks and then looks at you again. “If that’s something you want, then I’m alright with it. All I want is for you to be happy, cyar’ika.”
Fi would do anything for you. There’s no question about it. He’s absolutely the love of your life. Your whole world. But it still felt like something was missing.
You suppose that something is Niner.
Squeezing Fi’s hand, you lean over and kiss him. He smiles sweetly when you pull away and then looks over at Niner.
“Well, what do you say, Sarge?” He asks.
“I’m grateful to even be in your presence.” Niner smiles brightly at you and your chest tightens again.
Fi nods for Niner to go to you and when your sergeant slides off his bunk, settling between your legs, your breath hitches in your throat.
“Is… this okay?” Niner murmurs.
When you nod, he slides his warm calloused hands over your bare thighs, your dress sliding up slightly. Niner takes notice and looks like he’s really holding back. Looking over at Fi one more time for a confirmation that he’s truly okay with this, you hold yourself back from touching the man on his knees in front of you.
“Go on, cyare. It’s alright.” He lets you go and leans against the bunk post to watch you with nonjudgmental eyes.
You turn back toward your sergeant and smile down at him as you slowly cup his face, memorizing each detail and scar to memory. The way that his eyes follow yours until they settle on your lips. He waits for you to lean in, something completely unlike Niner, who usually is a first move kind of guy.
His hands never leave your thighs as you lean in slowly, brushing your lips against his, making his eyes flutter shut. He lets out the softest sigh, and it’s clear to you that he really and truly wants this. He wants you.
Your hands slide into his hair, tugging ever so slightly, enough to make him moan. Unable to help but smirk against his lips, you tug again and his grip on your thighs tightens.
“Careful, mesh’la.” Niner warns you, opening his eyes to slide his hands up to your hips.
Letting out a soft laugh, you look back over at Fi who’s smiling kindly at you. There really is no jealousy inside of him, is there? How could one person be so kind and loving?
You reach over for Fi’s black shirt, grabbing the fabric and pulling him to you so that he crushes his lips against, his hands automatically finding your hair and pulling your face closer.
When you feel Niner’s lips on your neck, you melt instantly, groaning against Fi’s mouth. How is this real? How could you be this lucky?
Niner’s mouth travels down quickly to your lap. “Lay back, sweetheart.”
Fi guides you down to the bed but you can’t help but want to watch what Niner’s about to do to you, so you prop yourself up on your elbows, making eye contact with you. He grins immediately, taking his shirt off.
“Truly not good at listening.” Niner playfully shakes his head.
You guide him back to you with your foot. “You already knew this, Sarge.”
“You have no fucking idea what it does to me when you call me ‘sarge’.” He groans.
“Ew. I call you ‘sarge’.” Fi teases.
Niner shoots Fi a silencing look and then pulls your underwear down, tossing them to the floor and then pushes your dress up. You’re eternally grateful that Darman is with Etain and Atin is with Laseema right then.
“Take her dress off, Fi.” Niner commands him.
Fi listens and helps you out of your dress, slipping it over your body and then dropping it to the floor. Niner groans softly at the sight of you and an instant boost of confidence washes over you so you sit up and pull Niner in for a kiss.
“Pretty girl.” Niner whispers against your lips.
With a soft whimper against his lips, you run your hands through his hair, pulling him as close as possible.
“Already fucking addicted to your taste.” He groans.
“Wait til you taste her pussy.” You could hear Fi’s smirk as he talks.
You look back at him and laugh. Fi sits up to kiss you again and Niner palms your breasts, squeezing and groping you in all the right places, making you whine with need.
“I think I will.” Niner pulls your lower half down to his mouth and kisses your inner thigh, making you gasp into Fi’s mouth.
You feel Niner’s warm breath flutter over your already wet warmth, knowing that this man could only be perfect at eating pussy. You still can’t fully comprehend how you got here, in between the two men you love.
“You alright, cyar’ika?” Niner checks in before going further.
“Perfect.” You pull away from Fi to promise him, smiling.
He licks a warm wet stripe up your folds and your hand automatically flies to Niner’s hair again as you groan loudly. He chuckles softly and you glance down at him.
“Don’t you laugh at me.” You huff, breathlessly.
“Not laughing at you, sweetheart. I’m laughing because Fi was right.” He squeezes your thighs on either side of his head. “You taste fucking incredible.”
“I’m always right, actually.” Fi grins widely at you and you grip his shirt as Niner licks into your desperate cunt, building up your orgasm, already threatening to send you over the edge.
You’ve waited so long for this. You need it to last longer.
“Niner… stop. I’m gonna cum…” You whimper, trying to pull away.
Niner looks up at Fi, confused. “She normally want you to stop so she doesn’t cum?”
Fi shakes his head, just as confused as Niner is.
“What’s wrong, cyare?” Fi, brushes his lips against your bare shoulder.
You’re shaking slightly from the nerves of it all. “Nothing… I just… I want to cum a certain way with you, Niner…”
“Oh, sweetheart.” Niner brushes his fingers gently across your cheek, smiling up at you. “Lead the way.”
You pull him up on the bed with you and Fi and Fi moves to the end of the bed to give you and Niner a little space, clearly happy to watch. You guide Niner down onto his back, his head hitting your pillow. His eyes flutter shut as he breathes in.
“I guess now it’s my turn to ask if you’re okay?” You tease, straddling his lap and running your fingers down his bare chest.
His hands find your bare hips, digging into your soft flesh. “I’m great. Your pillow just smells like you and it really hit me.”
Maker, he’s so sweet when he wants to be. You lean down and kiss him again, both of you moaning softly against each other. He reaches around you and pulls his hardened length out of his pants, and you can’t help but sneak a look, raising your eyebrows at the sheer girth of him. You’d expect nothing less from Niner.
“Fuck…” You whisper and then look back at his face.
“You sure you wanna be on top, baby?” He teases.
“I’m already here.” You shrug, making him and Fi laugh.
“My girl doesn’t back down from a challenge.” Fi grins proudly at you.
You lift up slightly and then start to line your entrance up with Niner’s cock. You spit in your hand and then give his large cock a few pumps, getting his length wet enough. He groans loudly, gripping your hips so roughly you’re sure you’re gonna bruise. But you can’t bring yourself to care, you want to be reminded of tonight. What if they wake up tomorrow and realize that they don’t want to share? What if this is just in the heat of a horny moment?
You attempt to get out of your head by sinking down on Niner’s cock, and both of you gasp so sharply that you can only look at each other. Niner closes the distance and pulls you down onto him and you can’t help but clench around him already.
“Fuck…” You both murmur.
“Fi…” You whisper, holding your hand out for him to come back.
“I’m right here, baby.” Fi smiles, coming back and kissing your neck. “You good?”
You can only nod your head, words failing. How do you explain just how good your partner’s brother’s cock feels? You just can’t.
“Words, cyar’ika. Use ‘em.” Niner grits.
“I’m good…” You whisper. “I’m good.”
“Permission to fuck you now?” Niner asks, looking up at you.
“Since when… do you… ask for things?” You tease him.
You can see the look in his eyes darken and you gulp. “Move Fi.”
Fi chuckles. “Oh, cyare. You’re in for it now.”
“Huh?” You don’t have time to even finish the word because Niner has you flipped over on your back and somehow is able to push even further into you, causing all the air to momentarily leave your lungs.
“Fuck you feel so good.” Niner buries his face in your neck, breathing you in as he finds your hands, pinning them to the bed by your head.
You wrap your legs around his waist. “Please… Sarge… I need you.”
“I know, sweetheart. Don’t worry. I’m gonna give it to you.” He pulls away from your neck to look you in the face.
You know he’s just checking on you again but you need him to move or you feel like you may combust.
“Maker, baby… you’re soaking the sheets.” Fi notices.
And that’s when Niner starts to pull out, just to push back in and your eyes roll back in your head. You’re absolutely sure you see stars just from that one thrust.
“Fi, come look at this.” Niner chuckles darkly, thrusting again and again. “Got her to shut up finally. All she needed was her sargeant’s cock. Isn’t that right, baby?”
You whimper, unable to form a coherent word. Niner and Fi both chuckle again as Niner starts to pick up his thrusting, angling you perfectly so that his cock goes as far as possible into you. You’re not so sure anyone has ever been able to reach as deep into you like this. Not even Fi, as much as you love him.
“Maker, you are soaked.” Niner pulls your face to look up at him, meeting his eyes. “All for me and Fi, huh?”
You nod, weakly.
“That’s right sweetheart. Doing so fucking good.” Niner leans down and kisses you quickly. “Alright, Fi. It’s time for her to cum.”
Your eyes quickly meet your partner’s eyes and he smiles down at you, proudly.
“Aye, sarge.” Fi’s fingers find your clit and you gasp and whine, writhing against Niner, making him groan again as you clench tightly around him.
“You wanna cum on my cock, baby?” Niner kisses your neck as he releases your hands so he can pull back to sit up on his knees, still fully sheathed inside of you.
“Please…” You murmur, looking at both men with equal need. “Fi- want your cock too… Please.”
“Since you asked so nicely, cyare.” Fi leans down to kiss you before situating himself on his knees near your head so that he can start to press his cock to your lips.
You relax your jaw and eagerly take his cock as far as he’ll allow you. Fi’s been so gracious this whole time, he deserves more attention.
“Maker, I love you.” Fi caresses your hair, praising you sweetly. “So perfect for us.”
You hum around his length as you bob your head over his length in time with Niner’s thrusts, which are starting to speed up a bit as Fi continues to rub your clit so perfectly. The warm feeling starts to pool low in your stomach and you can’t help but clench again for Niner.
“That’s it. She’s so fucking close.” Niner grins down at you.
“Oh, sweet girl. Are you gonna finish all over our sergeant's cock?” Fi teases you.
You nod around his cock as Niner decides to pick you up slightly so he can slam into you at a more unforgiving pace, the slapping sounds filling the barracks so perfectly, it’s almost deafening, besides both men’s moans and soft grunts.
“Sorry, Fi.” Niner grunts as he pulls you away from Fi’s cock so that he can pull you up into his arms, picking you and slamming you down on his cock so that all you can do is go limp in his arms as he fucks up into you.
All you can do is whimper and moan, no words able to form, as Niner buries his face in your neck as he unforgivingly pounds into you.
“Come on, baby. I know you wanna cum like this. Then I can fill this perfect cunt up with my own cum.” Niner grits through his teeth, very clearly trying to hold back so he doesn’t finish before you. “Do you want my cum?”
You nod with pathetic whines, trying to beg for him.
“She makes the prettiest sounds, doesn’t she?” Fi’s behind you now, pulling your face toward his so he can swallow your sounds with his kiss and his other arm wraps around you so that his fingers can bring you closer to your finish line.
“Fuck yeah, she does.” Niner agrees.
The way they talk about you and Fi rubbing your clit so fucking perfectly is what does it, sending you over your edge, making you throw your head back against Fi’s shoulder. You make eye contact with Niner as you cum all over his cock, coating him with your essence that he finally lets go and fills you up with himself. He groans roughly as he grips your hips tightly and you start to feel the soreness in them as you come down from the absolute sex high.
When you feel Fi pull away, you feel something trailing down your back and realize that Fi finished when you and Niner did, except it’s all over your bare back and you can’t help but laugh.
“I’m so sorry, sweetheart.” Fi murmurs with a chuckle as he cleans you with a wet towel.
“Don’t be.” You pant slightly, pulling him in for a kiss.
Niner is still buried inside of you and you’re not really ready to pull away just yet. You think he understands because as soon as Fi runs to the fresher, Niner pulls you in for another passionate kiss and you find yourself just as addicted to his taste as he thinks he is to yours. Resting your foreheads together, you close your eyes. Until he starts to  pull away slightly.
“Don’t pull out.” You whisper. “Please.”
“Alright, I won’t.” Niner promises you as he pulls you down to the bed, still inside of you.
He lays against the wall with you in his arms, making room for Fi to join when he’s done. You suspect that Fi’s giving you a moment of privacy with Niner to talk.
“So, what now?” You murmur.
“Well, for what it’s worth, I think we’ve wasted enough time not being together and as long as you’ll have me, I’m not going anywhere.” He murmurs, kissing you again.
You smile against his lips, believing him. “Until your next mission.”
“Yeah, but you’ll be right there waiting, right?” His calloused fingers brush across your soft cheek.
“Until you come back to me.” You smile.
“Which I promise to keep doing.” He smiles right back.
“Both of us will.” Fi’s soft voice is behind you as he climbs into the bunk with you, resting his hand on your hip and squeezing gently before placing a kiss to your shoulder blade. You kiss both of them once more before drifting off into sleep, thinking about how lucky you are to get to experience this life with both of them. You just hope that their Kal’buir can make good on his promise and find Ko Sai in time so that you can experience a full life with them.

“I need your help.”
You wanted to scoff at Pender, wanted to curse and threaten him until he left you alone. Visions of your last time around him danced through your mind - pushed up against a wall, propositioned and ultimately punched in the face. Alpha had dealt with Pender swiftly and decisively enough that he hadn’t bothered you since, but it didn’t mean that you were going to eagerly leap to help him.
Still, something about the desperation on his face… it was unsettling, especially compared to the cocky, self-assured way he habitually carried himself. His eyes were pleading, looking for all the world like a child scared of the dark.
Alpha teased and admired your soft heart in turns, but you were cursing yourself for it as you sighed, returning to your seat. “What do you want, Pender?”
Pender straightened slightly, hope apparently bringing life back to him. He seemed too keyed up to take the other seat, though. Instead, he paced fitfully around the small room, only pausing to glance at you every few moments while you waited impatiently for him to give an explanation.
“Commander Colt will be on his way back here soon,” you warned, pitching your voice low to keep from startling him out of a confessional sort of mood.
Pender’s face tightened, but he shook his head. “I don’t- really know- I don’t know where to start.”
“Start with the most relevant information,” you suggested. “If I have questions, we can backtrack.”
He nodded, pulling a datapad from his pocket. With a few swipes of his finger, he located what he was looking for and passed the datapad to you. It appeared to be a credit transfer into his account. The transfer was for a large amount.
You glanced up at Pender. “What exactly am I looking at?”
“It’s my bank account,” he answered and you nodded instead of snarking at him - something you should have been awarded a medal for, honestly. “That’s not my salary. I haven’t done any outside jobs lately, either. Whoever requested that credit transfer, it wasn’t supposed to be for me.”
With a slow nod, you set the datapad down on the table. “And you don’t know who could have sent it?”
“My bank says the transfer was anonymous,” Pender told you, pacing more quickly. “When I pushed them, they said the details were so muddled and privacy protected that they couldn’t begin to decipher a starting account.”
You stared at the datapad screen for another moment. It really was a large amount of credits, but nothing in Pender’s explanation sounded sinister or threatening. And it certainly didn’t sound threatening enough to explain Pender’s near-panic about it.
“It’s odd,” you conceded slowly, “but not the worst thing. I don’t see what you need my help with.”
“I know you’re investigating the bounty hunters with Shaak Ti and Colt,” Pender said. “And I have reason to believe you’re searching for someone who stole information.”
“Why do you think that?” you asked, nerves roiling in the pit of your stomach. Everyone in the investigation had been trained to keep secrets from a very young age… except you. Had you somehow destroyed the secrecy of the investigation?
Pender gave you an unimpressed look - the most natural expression he had worn since first approaching you. “I knew the General and Commander were looking for information about something, and my credits are on a security leak. It didn’t take much to realize that you haven’t been working on your report lately. When I did some digging, I found out that you’re on special assignment. The pieces fell into place.”
You lifted your chin. “If that were true, I wouldn’t be able to confirm any of it.”
“I don’t need you to confirm anything,” he snapped, the sharp tone in his voice making you flinch even as your hands automatically clenched into fists. “Just… just look.”
Pender’s voice broke on the last word and he slid the datapad back toward you. He had pulled up a screen that displayed details of the mysterious transaction. It was for the same amount, still without a name displayed in the ‘Sender’ section. In fact, the only new detail was visible in the small ‘Note’ section. Displayed in small, electronically produced letters, you could see the words, “In thanks for the useful advice.”
You tore your gaze away from the screen to stare at Pender, who looked distraught. “The useful advice? What useful advice?”
“I don’t know!” he said, running shaking fingers through his hair. “I was telling you the truth - I haven’t taken on any jobs outside of Kamino lately. No hunts, no consulting, nothing. I don’t know who sent these credits or why, but I know this is going to end up putting me in the middle of your investigation, and I need your help!”
“I-” You paused, sighing. “I’ll do my best, Pender. But I have to tell General Ti and Commander Colt about this.”
Pender’s eyes went wide. “No. Please don’t. Please.”
“If you want my help, you have to let me tell them,” you said, making your voice and face as firm as you could possibly manage. When he still seemed hesitant, you reminded him, “I’ve already been accused of being at fault for one planet-wide catastrophe. I have no interest in doing it a second time. Your choice.”
The door opened before he could say anything, admitting General Ti and Commander Colt. They both looked surprised, though the general covered it better. “Doni Pender, hello. What brings you here?”
As she spoke with Pender, Commander Colt took a seat beside you and rested a cup of caf on the table for you. As he did, he leaned in too close for Pender to overhear. “Are you okay?”
You nodded, touched that they had remembered your discomfort around Pender and had made sure to check with you before they did anything else.
Pender, having finished with his conversation with Shaak Ti, glanced at you and sighed. “I agree. You can tell them.”
The curiosity on the general and commander’s faces soon turned to surprise and suspicion before changing to a professionalism that firmly masked anything else they may have been feeling.
“It’s suspicious,” Commander Colt said, cutting Pender off with a sharp gesture before he could say more than two words in his own defense. “It’s suspicious that payment would have come through now with that kind of note attached. Seems too easy.”
“I agree,” General Ti said. “But we are honor-bound to report any findings to the Kaminoan authorities. We can argue your case-”
“Please, no,” Pender begged for the second time. “You don’t understand. They don’t like me. They would take any opportunity to get rid of me, but they’ll arrest me for this. I’m not- I’ve done some things wrong in my life, but I don’t deserve to spend the rest of it rotting in a Republic prison!”
“If we’re all wary of this transfer and what it means, maybe it would make sense to put off reporting the findings,” you suggested.
General Ti shook her head regretfully. “I must make my report every day. I can wait until the end of the day, but no later.”
“Then it’s settled,” Commander Colt summarized, looking at you. “You’ll look into Pender’s case while the General and I keep investigating. The Kaminoans won’t ask questions since the investigation is ongoing and if you need any additional information, we can help you get it.”
“Do you have enough access to get started?” General Ti asked.
You nodded. “I still have full security clearance. I should be able to get all the information I need.”
“And me?” Pender asked. “What can I do? I’ll help her with the background information…”
Commander Colt cut in before you could say anything. “Pender, you need to do whatever it is that you’re scheduled to do today. If you deviate from your schedule, it’ll only create questions or make you look more guilty. Keep an ear out for your comlink in case she has questions for you.”
Pender nodded, repeating the motion too many times for it to look natural. “Of course, of course... Let me give you all my private comlink frequency- I don’t want to risk anyone accessing our conversations.”
After he had done exactly that, Pender rushed out of the room. Commander Colt gave you an apologetic look. “Sorry about that. Figured you wouldn’t want him following you around all day.”
You shrugged and General Ti said kindly, “It is for the best that he is elsewhere. You have much to do and a short span of time in which to complete it.”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough time. Not nearly. In fact, you were unpleasantly reminded of your early days on Kamino, always working desperately with no chance of success.
Not that you weren’t making strides. No, by an hour after your (skipped) lunch, you had checked the records of every entry into Pender’s quarters for as long as the information had been leaked, as well as a month before. You had read reports from the other trainers, analyzing how they felt about Pender. Almost none of them cared for him, but you couldn’t find anything that tied them to direct action against him.
You had accessed his datapad to double-check that it hadn’t been breached or that he hadn’t used it to leak information. If he had leaked the information, there was very little chance he would have started this whole side investigation, but you were determined to check everything you could.
It was only an hour before General Ti’s deadline that you tossed aside your own datapad, heaving a sigh and thinking just how far outside your job description you currently were.
By all rights, you should let the general and commander tell the Kaminoans about Pender. He had been unpleasant to you until the exact moment that he had needed you to help him. It wouldn’t make your life any more difficult or worse to see him sent to prison for apparent treason against the Republic. In fact, it may make your life a little easier.
But you couldn’t do it.
There was just something too… neat about the whole thing. It was too simple, too clean. Pender was widely disliked, even by the Kaminoans, as he had admitted. Who would make a better scapegoat than someone who had no friends to ask questions when they were accused of doing something terrible?
No, you had to keep fighting for Pender. Not because you liked or even cared about the man himself, but because no one had reason to believe your innocence after the Separatist had invaded Kamino. You would have been the most convenient scapegoat, but Alpha had been staunchly in your corner.
Alpha had been your champion. You had to be the same for someone else if you could.
---
Alpha was inside an asteroid.
There was no doubt about it now: the panel on the bottom floor of the mysterious abandoned ship led directly into the asteroid itself. It clearly wasn’t an asteroid at all, though. Alpha couldn’t claim to be an expert, but he was under the impression that most asteroids didn’t have countless levels of durasteel catwalks and blinking wall panels.
There had been a short debate about whether to use the ladder in the decompression chamber. Half of Omega Squad had argued that there was no way of knowing for certain if the ladder was safe or had been sabotaged somehow. The other half maintained that this section of the ship clearly hadn’t been meant to be seen, and the ladder wouldn’t have been sabotaged by someone who may need to use it again.
Alpha had ended the argument by dropping the ladder through the access hatch. When it stood, apparently not preparing to collapse, he climbed down it. The beam from the light mounted on the side of his helmet shone through the darkness. It wasn’t enough light, not even close, but it didn’t matter. As soon as he had gotten halfway down the ladder, automatic lights had switched on.
Omega Squad had descended quietly behind him, but Alpha’s attention was fixed on studying his surroundings. He was on the uppermost durasteel catwalk, and when he peered over the side, more levels stretched down beneath him. There was a clear end, however. About five levels down, the catwalks ended, and a ladder stretched the rest of the way down to the floor… or, more accurately, to a durasteel sheet covering the entirety of the ‘floor’.
Even from his place far above the floor, Alpha could see that there were access panels on it. Whatever was behind this barrier that divided the false asteroid nearly in half, it had been designed to be checked or maintained.
The access hatch had passed through a thick layer of durasteel. Clearly, the ‘asteroid’ was hollow, though clearly, someone had designed it to withstand observation and pass as something natural. The surface of the asteroid had been rocky when he crossed from Omega Squad’s ship to the abandoned one, though something had to have hit the scanner as metallic.
Whether the thickness of the outer shell was part of the disguise or a way of protecting whatever was behind that barrier, Alpha couldn’t be sure. Either way, they soon discovered that it blocked every transmission except the ones in their inter-HUD comm channel.
“Spread out,” Alpha ordered. “Check everything. Until we know what’s behind that barrier, helmets stay on, breathable atmosphere or not. And stay on high alert. We don’t know whether someone knows we’re here. We didn’t exactly perform a stealth entrance.”
The group fanned out to study every level of the structure. The highest one, level five, held information about the asteroid and its structural integrity. The next down seemed to monitor patterns of nearby planetary bodies. The readings paid special attention to solar flares, meteor showers, and asteroids.
Level three was the one that finally put an end to any light-heartedness Omega Squad had been showing. It was dedicated entirely to monitoring Republic and GAR transmissions… even on channels that were restricted or heavily encoded.
Level two was fully unlabeled, which somehow managed to be even more sinister than everything else they had found up to that point. Niner was issuing orders before Alpha had the chance: “Atin, start slicing these panels, Figure out what this level is for. Fi, cover him. Darman, you’re with the captain and I. We’re going to check out the last level.”
Niner turned, glancing at Alpha as if to check whether he had additional orders. The sergeant seemed to have covered everything, so Alpha just gave a slight nod and went to level one. There was nothing at all on that level, just a blank wall stretching the length of the catwalk.
“Nothing to report on this level,” he transmitted over the comm channel. “We’re headed to level zero. We’ll let you know if we need coverage.”
“Yes, sir,” Fi replied, suddenly all business since his skills as a sniper and medic may be needed before they returned to the ship. “I’m on alert.”
“Any progress on slicing into the panel?” Niner asked as he followed Alpha to the last ladder that stretched down to the floor.
“Nothing yet,” Atin reported. “The panel is loaded with security. I haven’t tripped anything yet, but it’s slow going.”
“Keep at it,” Alpha told him darkly. “We need to report back soon and the more intel we have, the better.”
“Sir,” Atin agreed. Alpha didn’t bother saying anything else. The fewer distractions he had, the faster Atin could slice the panel and the sooner Alpha could get back to the people who mattered.
His boots hit the durasteel floor with a hollow-sounding boom! The same thing happened when Niner, then Darman reached the bottom of the ladder. Alpha waited for them to glance around, then went for the nearest gap in the barrier. He had noticed a while before that, along with several access hatches, there were a few narrow rectangles of thick transparisteel set into the barrier.
When he peered through, however, he was greeted with a mass of wires and electronics. Niner had followed him, glancing through the pane as well. “Any idea what it is, captain?”
“No,” Alpha said flatly. Electronics were tricky. They could be programmed to do any number of things. He could take a guess at their purpose based on the way things were laid out and interconnected, but the GAR would want more than a guess, especially with something so strange and suspicious… and so close to Kamino.
“It’s a transmission station,” Darman contributed. When they both turned to look at him, he shrugged, indicating a warning sign set into the barrier. “There’s a lopretrium warning. Lopretrium is used to increase the range of transmissions. It’s a natural amplifier for frequencies.”
Alpha frowned. He remembered every bit of information he had ever come across, but that was new to him.
Judging from his voice, Niner seemed to be thinking along the same lines. “Where did you learn that one, Darman?”
Darman seemed almost embarrassed when he replied, “Mereel.”
Alpha bit back a sigh. He didn’t mind the null ARCs - though they were some of the few ARC troopers he hadn’t personally trained - but there was something about running into the Skirata clan that made every trooper walk away with stars in his eyes. It was infuriating. More importantly, it could make a man lose focus on what was important.
“Okay, so it’s a transmission station,” Alpha agreed sharply. “Why don’t we know about it? The Republic monitors all transmissions that pass through this sector.”
“If transmissions are sporadic, they would be more difficult to track,” Niner theorized. “Or maybe they’re transmitting on a frequency that the Republic doesn’t watch as closely.”
“I’m getting more curious about who ‘they’ are,” Alpha said. “But okay, say they miss the transmission. Ships pass through this sector constantly - on patrol, on the way to Kamino, or just passing through. How did no one notice a single asteroid with a ship crash-landed on it before now? This is showing signs of having been here for a while.”
“I think it was originally part of an asteroid field.” Darman held up his datapad. “Remember that field nearby? I guessed that it was part of that, so I did some research. Turns out the field was closer, and this station would have been in the middle of it. The field didn’t shift until a few weeks ago, so it’s possible that no one noticed. This didn’t move with the rest of the asteroids, though. It’s a fixed location.”
“No one would have had a reason to scan an asteroid field,” Niner added. “No one would have noticed that this is actually metallic.”
“Not only that,” Darman said. “The hull of this station was covered in something rocky when we came over to the crash site. I think it was originally covered in a duracrete mixture that hid the metal. My guess is that constant collisions with other asteroids and the stress of being in open space chipped away at the duracrete until the metal showed through. It wouldn’t have taken much exposure for our scanner to be able to pick up a metallic surface.”
“Can we get inside?” Alpha asked.
“I wouldn’t,” Atin contributed through the comms channel. “I’m seeing signs that every access panel to the transmitter itself is heavily alarmed. It would take hours to slice through those security protocols.”
“Don’t bother,” Alpha told him, starting for the ladder. “I’m going to make contact with the Republic, then with Kamino. Whoever put this here, the kaminii need to know.”
He had made it up to the fifth floor and the bottom of the ladder to the original access hatch when Atin spoke again. “Captain, I got into the system. These are the panels where the information to be transmitted is entered either manually or through a remote application.”
Alpha paused. “Were you able to retrieve any past messages?”
“Even better,” Atin replied, satisfaction thick in his tone. “I’ve got a call log. The station has recently received several calls from a comm frequency based on Kamino. I’m sending the frequency to your HUD now.”
A single flick of Alpha’s eyes was enough to pull up the comm frequency. After a split second to process, a violent smile stretched over his face.

“You didn’t find anything?” Pender demanded. You weren’t thrilled about the sharp reprimand in his voice, but you couldn’t exactly blame him. Pender’s eyes were wide and his breathing was fast. He was panicking, and with good reason.
“No,” you admitted. “I looked at every record I could find, but no one else seems like a likely candidate for transmitting information, especially not on your behalf.”
“Listen, I know I’m a popular guy,” Pender started, pacing back and forth, “but surely you found someone who doesn’t like me. You know how these bounty hunters are. If they take the slightest dislike to you, they do crazy things to get revenge. You should have seen the way this one Weequay started treating me…”
You tuned Pender out as he launched into a story, still walking frantically around the room. His pacing turned out to be a good thing, since it meant he entirely missed the way you made uncomfortable eye contact with General Ti and Commander Colt. They knew as well as you did that Pender was among the least-liked people on Kamino.
“I can at least give the Kaminoans my recommendation that they refrain from acting until we can launch a deeper investigation into this matter,” General Ti said kindly.
Pender was unconvinced. “General, please don’t. I’ll do anything you want, but I can’t- Please, don’t tell the Kaminoans about this.”
The General tried to gently persuade Pender that she would do everything she could to help, but she had to make her full report. You had never been so grateful for your comm to ring than you were in that moment, and you happily stepped to the furthest corner of the room to accept the call.
You could have gone outside for greater privacy, but there was a chance that General Ti would pull some kind of Jedi trick on Pender, and you weren’t willing to risk missing that.
The frequency was unfamiliar, but you accepted it anyway, answering with a wary, “Hello?”
“It’s me,” Alpha said, his voice familiar and utterly comforting even through the small speakers of the comlink. “Pender’s a traitor.”
The unprompted statement was so timely for the situation that it took you a moment to process. “What?”
“Pender’s a traitor,” Alpha repeated with relish. “He’s been giving information to the Seppies through a disguised transmission station outside of Kamino.”
“Are you sure?” you murmured, trying to pitch your voice only barely loud enough to be heard over the chaos in the background. “How do you know?”
“We tracked the communications back to Kamino,” he told you. “They originated from his Republic-issued comlink frequency.”
“Pender,” you called, repeating it more loudly when he didn’t respond the first time. “Pender! I need your comlink. The one the Republic gave you.”
“Pender? Why are you with Pender?” Alpha demanded, but you ignored him.
“I don’t have it,” Pender admitted, shrinking under the harsh stares of the general and commander. “I lost it months ago.”
Your voice was sharp with exasperation and irritation. “And you didn’t think to mention this when you asked me for help?”
“It was GAR-issued,” Pender explained, sounding confused about why you were so upset. “I didn’t want to get fined for losing government equipment. You already told the general about the credit transfer when I asked you not to. I knew you would do the same thing with the comlink.”
“I believe it is clear that Pender is not the source of our information leak,” General Ti summarized, cutting through the rest of the chatter and accusations you, Pender, and Alpha were throwing around. “Pender, you are dismissed.”
Pender rushed out of the room as quickly as possible. When the door had closed behind him, the general continued, “That does leave the question of who the leak is. Administrator, do you have any theories?”
You shook your head. “Sorry, General Ti. I didn’t go far back enough in the security cam footage to catch who might have stolen Pender’s comlink. Now that I have a timeline, I should be able to narrow the list of suspects down.”
“General,” Colt said, voice urgent. “We’ve just had an unauthorized departure from the planet.”
“That must have been our traitor,” General Ti concluded. “We must go to the Kaminoans with what we’ve learned.”
“I’ll report what we’ve found to the Republic and the GAR,” Alpha informed them all through your comlink. “I’m sure you’ll be in contact with them, and it’ll help if they already know what’s going on.”
“Very good, Captain,” the Jedi said, inclining her head despite the fact that Alpha couldn’t see her. “And hurry back. I have a feeling we will need you here.”
“I will, General,” Alpha agreed, and you could hear the grim determination in his voice. “Omega Squad and I will have to stay long enough to catalogue what we find and report back to everyone, but I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
“Stay safe, Alpha,” you pleaded softly, as the general and commander turned away tactfully and started their own conversation.
“I will, but I need you to do the same,” he countered. “I’ll see you soon...”
There was an odd, heavy pause before the call disconnected. It was probably because he didn’t call you neverd’ika since you had an audience… but you couldn’t help but wonder if there was something else he didn’t say.
You couldn’t dwell on it for too long. General Ti had called ahead to get an emergency meeting with Lama Su. Kamino’s prime minister hadn’t been happy at being summoned, but he agreed to spare the Jedi a few minutes. You didn’t need Jedi senses to catch the subtext: if it had been anyone else, the meeting request would have been denied.
It didn’t matter, though. All that mattered was that General Ti got the meeting and brought you and Commander Colt along with her. Given your particular history with the Kaminoans, you made a point of staying quiet while General Ti finished giving him a general explanation of what had happened.
By the time she had finished, more information had come to light. Colt stepped forward, already displaying the screen of his datapad. “Security has traced the unauthorized departure to a ship owned by Lenjam Banti, one of the bounty hunter instructors. They haven’t been able to reach him on the comms.”
“Do you believe Banti was the leak?” Lama Su asked, narrowing his eyes slightly.
“Kamino security forces ran a sample of his skin cells through an outside database,” General Ti told him. “It revealed that he lied about his identity. Banti is actually a bounty hunter known only by the name Dengar.”
With that information and the new timeline Pender had inadvertently provided, you focused your attention on your own datapad, pulling up the security footage you had been looking through. Now that you had a suspect, it would be far easier to track down evidence.
“Impossible,” Lama Su decreed. “We perform an extensive background check on all instructor candidates. If he were lying about his identity, we would have discovered it.”
“Not necessarily,” General Ti told him kindly. “Your databases are extensive, but self-contained. It would have been simple for someone with the right skills to alter the information of the genetic information you have on file. The Kaminoan databases do say that the material belongs to Banti, but several outside databases confirm that the man is indeed Dengar. Your archives were sliced and altered.”
Kaminoan expressions weren’t easy to read, but even you could tell that Lama Su looked displeased. “And what evidence do you have that this Dengar was the one to collect and distribute information?”
Fortunately, you had found what you needed by that point. You showed him your datapad, with Dengar’s face clearly showing on the footage. He was frozen in time, leaving Pender’s quarters. “This is from several months ago. We hadn’t thought to look back that far.”
Lama Su’s look of displeasure began turning to one of derision and you braced for him to say something condescending, but General Ti interrupted before he could begin. “Prime Minister, you must act quickly. We do not yet know what information Dengar has or where he took it.”
“And why should I not take Doni Pender into custody?” the Kaminoan asked. “Why would Dengar have left so abruptly if he set up the perfect person to take the fall? It seems to me that the two could have been working together and had a disagreement. Or perhaps Dengar discovered Pender’s deception and fled for his own safety.”
“Prime Minister, Pender is the only reason we found out about all of this,” you chimed in. “He has made some missteps, but we wouldn’t have made this much progress if he hadn’t told us about the way he was being set up.”
“Sir,” Commander Colt said quickly, before Lama Su could reply. “The administrator was skeptical about Pender’s guilt despite the supposed evidence. She was looking into the situation. With her investigation and Captain Alpha-17 finding the transmission station with Omega Squad, Dengar probably felt it was too dangerous to risk staying here.”
Lama Su leaned forward, an intent look in his dark eyes. “How did you know about the commando team’s progress? Their mission is highly classified. They were not to discuss it with anyone.”
“I’m Captain Alpha-17’s commanding officer, sir. The GAR’s processes are that he should report to General Ti and I even on assignments outside of our command,” Commander Colt explained smoothly.
It was an outright lie, but the commander’s sincerity and matter-of-fact nature made it far more convincing.
Lama Su didn’t seem like he entirely believed that, but General Ti spoke again. “We must act now or we risk unforeseen complications from the situation, Prime Minister.”
The Kaminoan steepled his long fingers and heaved a heavy sigh. There was a moment of charged silence, but he reached for the comlink on his desk. After keying in a frequency, he said reluctantly, “Until we can do a full audit of our information, Kamino is under lockdown. No one may enter or leave without approval.”
He glanced from General Ti, to Commander Colt, and finally to you. With his eerie eyes fixed on you, he said, “Perform all necessary activities to prepare for a potential invasion.”

Author's Note - Oh, here we go again... Thanks, as always, for reading!
Now for the unwelcome part of this note: I try to take a break about halfway through these stories to get the next part planned out and start writing. I'm not prepared to say that this is the halfway point (e.g. I legitimately thought this was chapter ten the whole time I was writing it), but I will be taking a small hiatus. You can expect the next chapter to be posted in the first week of March!
That being said, I do have some stuff planned for the time between now and posting Chapter Twelve. Feel free to send in asks for more information or background questions. As long as you aren't asking for spoilers, I'd love to answer your questions!
Thank you for reading and I'll see you in a few weeks!

Buckle up. Random ask rampage comin your way! 😜 What’s your favorite thing you’ve ever created here and why? 🤓
FREESIA! ILY! You're always so sweet and creating ways for community interactions. This is a bit of a hard question, TBH. I've just started writing again this year so I'm honestly so proud of what I've created so far. So, I'm gonna cheat a little and give a couple, but I'll include why. 1. Sunflowers and Blasters. It's my first long fic and I am really quite proud of the characters I've created. I really feel like I've been able to stretch my creativity with this fic and I am proud of myself for sharing it in the first place.
2. The Fox & the Hare
I wrote this for my first Event, hosted by the wonderful @anxiouspineapple99. And this fic was a lot of firsts for me. My first time writing something without a happy ending, my first attempt at Psychological Horror, my first Event. I was really proud of this, and while there are always things I would fix, I ultimately really enjoyed it.
3. Last one, I promise! Safe & Sound
Another submission for an event! I struggled with this one a lot, because this was my introduction to Niner. I really enjoyed writing it and ultimately found myself to be really happy with it.
I hope it's okay that I chose three... I just don't think I can choose one favorite right now. Because I'm just super proud of what I've created this year as a whole. I'm still learning and I'm still improving, so I can't say that any of them are perfect, but I wrote them and I shared them. And that's a success, in my opinion.

“Welcome back!” You grin up at Niner as you push away from the wall when he steps off the ship.
Niner pulls his helmet off and flashes you the smallest smile, “This is a surprise, I wasn’t expecting you to be waiting for me.”
You make a face, “No such luck, I’m afraid. I’m waiting for Kal. He has a message from Kamino.” He looks disappointed for a moment, so you favor him with your warmest smile, “But I am happy to see you.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” You peek around him, “But, um, I have to get back to work, and I’m sure you have things you need to do. I made some cookies, and left them in your locker. I hope you like them.”
“I’m sure they’re…great.” But you’re already gone, hurrying over to Kal to deliver the message to him, and then you’re gone from the hanger, heading back to your office.
Though you do take a moment to wave at Niner before you leave. He is your favorite, after all.
******************
Later that same day, after you’ve handed the comm over to the night shift person (an older woman with a pinched face who cannot stand working with clones, which is why she chose night shift) you retire to your suite.
And you’re pleasantly surprised when you reach your room and you see Niner waiting for you. “Niner, I thought for sure you’d be resting.”
“Well, I have a bunch of cookies and a bunch of asshole brothers, so I thought I’d come and eat them in a place that’s safe and no one will steal them.” Niner replies with a broad grin.
You grin right back at him, and open the door to let him in, “Sorry for the mess.”
“I assure you my bunk is messier,” Niner replies as he follows you into your suite, “Although, I don’t have quite so many…lacy things around my room.” He adds with a wide grin as he picks up a bra that’s hanging off a chair, “I didn’t know you had so many lacy things, honestly.”
You flush, rip the material from his hands, and then fling it across the room. “They can’t go in the dryer! That’s the only reason it’s out.”
Niner is staring at you like he’s trying to puzzle something out, “Do you always wear lace? Are you wearing lace right now?”
Your face burns, “...I might be.”
His lips part for a moment, and he sets the plate of cookies on the table, “Can I see?” He asks, his gaze locked with yours, “I know, it’s kind of a weird request, but…”
“But?”
“But I want you.” Niner pauses and then laughs at himself, “Want is kind of an understatement, actually. I need you.”
You flush, “You…Niner-”
He takes a step closer to you, and reaches out to brush the back of his fingers against your cheek, “There’s not one person who’s more important to me than you are.”
His fingers trail from your cheek to your neck, and then settles lightly at the base of your throat, just over the top most button of your uniform. “I didn’t think you were interested,” You admit, your voice quiet, “You never indicated one way or the other.”
His deft fingers pop the first button open, and then, when you don’t move to stop him, he nimbly opens the rest, and pushes the material onto the floor. “I’ve wanted you since the day we met.” Niner leans in and hesitantly presses his lips to a spot beneath your ear, “You were wearing your hair in a knot on the top of your head,” He murmurs, “And all I could think about is how you’d look with your neck covered in my marks.”
“That long?” You ask.
He hums in response, and lazily nibbles on that spot under your ear, and then he grins when you moan. “You like that then?” You press your lips against his clothed shoulder, your face burning, and you gasp when he does it again, “Yeah, you like that.” Niner teases.
Your face burns a little hotter, and you avert your gaze.
He pulls away and swiftly tugs your shirt up and off, leaving you in your bra and your pants. Niner tosses your shirt to the side, and his gaze immediately locks on your breasts.
You nervously cross your arms over them, “I know they’re not the biggest-”
Niner catches your hands and lightly pulls them back down to your sides, “They’re perfect, just like you.” Once he’s sure that you’re not going to try and hide from him, he brings his hands up to lightly trace the lace lining the edges of your bra.
Your breath catches and you moan, “Niner-”
“You’re so much softer than I ever imagined.” He breathes out, “Stars, I could just touch you like this for hours.”
You huff out a breath, and you reach up, wrapping your arms around his neck, and you tug him down to crash your lips against his. Niner releases a breathless laugh against your lips, his arm sliding tightly around your waist to hold you tightly.
“Impatient,” He chides, once he breaks the kiss.
“I’ve been patient.” You counter, your hands sliding under his top, “I’ve been so, so patient. I’m done being patient.”
He grins, “Alright, cyar’ika. What do you want?”
“I want you naked, and I want you to fuck me so good that I can’t walk tomorrow.” You say as your lips hover over his for a moment, “And if that’s not acceptable for you, I want to ride you until neither of us can think straight.”
Niner groans at your words, and he releases you to take a step back just long enough to rip his clothes off and throw them to the side, “You riding me until neither of us can think straight sounds like a good start,” He says breathlessly, before his lips are against yours again, and he’s tugging you backwards towards the bed. “Clothes off, cyar’ika.”
You stumble a little bit as you peel the rest of your clothing off, tossing everything to the side to be dealt with at another time, and then you’re pressed firmly against him.
His hands glide across your body with a fever boarding on desperation, and you can totally understand, after all, you never thought you’d get the chance to touch him like this.
Before you can blink, he’s laid out on your bed, and you’re straddling his hips. His hands are on your hips, supporting you, and your hands are sitting on his chest for support.
Slowly, you ease down his length, and as soon as he’s settled completely inside you, your head tilts back as you adjust to the feeling. Praise falls from Niner’s lips without him really thinking about it, and he gazes up at you in adoration.
You’re about to start moving, when he drags you down so he’s able to kiss you. “Can we just stay like this, for a bit?” Niner asks, as he holds you still.
“You don’t want-?”
“Oh I do. I do want. More than I can put into words.” Niner reassures, “but I need this, just like this, just for a bit.” His grin is a little crooked, “How long can you hold out, cyare?”
You laugh softly and press your forehead against his, “As long as you want me to.”
And then he’s kissing you again, and for a moment, you think that this is what love must be.

might I request something for Niner Skirata? Something sweet and romantic, maybe him and the reader realizing they’re madly in love with each other?
Winter Love
Summary: It's time for the winter festival, and naturally, you're bringing Niner.
Pairing: Niner Skirata x Reader

Warnings: None

A/N: I'm not sure I'm happy with this one. Niner doesn't have much personality written down either, so I had to guess. I hate it when I have to do that.

“Come on!” You laugh as you take Niner’s hand and tug him in the direction of the park, “We’re going to miss it!”
“I highly doubt that,” Niner replies, even as he allows you to drag him the short distance to the park, “Remind me again why you’re dragging me around the cold and snow?”
“Because it’ll be fun!” You run a little ahead of him and then spread your arms wide, “Ta-dah!”
Niner sighs and looks around at the park. It’s crowded. More than crowded, it’s packed, “Okay, I’ll bite. What’s going on?”
“It’s the Winter Festival! There’s snowball fights,” You motion to one side, “Sledding,” you motion to the other, “Snow sculpting!” You gesture to the back where people are crafting intricate designs out of snow, “Ice skating,” You point to the lake, “And hot chocolate and sweets!”
Niner looks around, and then sighs, “This…looks very busy, and I’d rather just go home.”
You clasp your hands just under your nose, “Please?”
“I…you…” Niner sighs deeply, “Fine. But I’m not making a snow sculpture or going sledding.”
“Great! I just want to go ice skating anyway!” You take his hand again and tug him towards the lake, “I brought ice skates for both of us.”
“What if you hadn’t been able to convince me to stay?” He asks, curiously, as you hand him a pair of skates.
And you giggle, “You never say no to me, Niner.”
He pauses, and then curses under his breath, “Just because you’re right-”
You laugh and pull him over to an open bench, “Come on! It’ll be fun!” You sit down and start to pull on your skates. Niner hesitates a moment longer, just for appearances sake probably, before he drops onto the spot next to you and also pulls his skates on.
“I’m going to fall and break my head open,” He complains under his breath.
“You are not! I’ve never seen you fail at anything you put your mind to,” You carefully stand, and beam at him, “Come on! You’re going to be great at this, just like you are at everything else!”
Niner flashes a small smile, “I think you’re biased.” He also stands, a lot more steadily than you, and you cheerfully take his hand, partly for support, but mostly because you like being close to him.
You carefully step onto the ice, and skate a little bit away from Niner, and then you stop so he can join you.
He’s a little unsteady on the blades, but you watch, awed, as he teaches himself to skate in the few moments it takes him to move from the shore to you. “I knew you would be great!” You exclaim as you skate over to him and reach out to take his hand again.
Niner accepts your hand without a second thought, and lightly tugs you closer so that you’re not in the way of the other skaters, “You say that about everything when it comes to me.” He sounds amused, “Why are you so sure that I’m going to be amazing at everything?”
You blink up at him, “Because you’re you!” You say honestly.
He laughs softly, and brings his free hand up to brush a snowflake off your cheek, “Careful, beautiful, I might start to think that you’re in love with me at this rate.”
You smile shyly, “Would that be so bad?”
Niner’s fingers pause, and his smile softens, “Less so than you might think.” He threads his fingers with yours and tugs you to start moving.
You move so you’re skating next to him, “What do you mean by that?”
“Hm? Oh. I recently came to terms with the fact that I love you.” Niner says, as though he’s not admitting something huge, “It’s why I let you get away with dragging me out to places I normally wouldn’t go.”
You blink at him, stunned.
“And, by that, I mean that Kal’buir told me that I was in love with you, and that I needed to stop running away from it.” Niner continues, “And he’s right, as he normally is.”
“You’re in love with me?”
“So it seems.” Niner smiles at you, soft and a little nervously, “Is that okay?”
You grin at him and nod eagerly, “More than okay. Why do you think I’m always hanging around you?”
Niner laughs softly, and quickly leans in to press a kiss against the corner of your lips, “Come on, cyare, you wanted to skate, then let’s skate. We can figure out the rest of this later.”
You giggle and nod, “Deal!”

25 Days of Life Day: Day 7 - Light Displays with Niner
Summary: You and Niner go to a Life Day light display where he surprises you.
A/N: I just have a lot of feelings about Niner, it's not even funny. (Unfortunately, there's like zero pictures of him since he's in the Rep Comm books lol) Still love him though. ANYWAY, sorry this is so fucking late. I'm so irritated with myself for getting so behind. But I am DETERMINED to get caught up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Niner had comm’d you early in the day to ask you to meet him at Laseema’s later. He hadn’t said much, just that he had something planned for tonight. Which is new because Niner wasn’t much of a planner. He’s just always so tired, he usually lets you take the reins on planning stuff. Not that you get a lot of time to do stuff. But you’re excited.
When you arrive at Laseema’s, Niner is nowhere in sight nor do you sense him. But Laseema answers the door, excited nonetheless.
“Hi, Seema.” You greet her, breathless when she practically yanks you into the apartment that Kal Skirata had given her in return for her help from time to time.
And by fate, she and Atin met and fell in love. They’re supposed to get married after the war, and you couldn’t be more happy for the pair.
“I have a surprise for you. And you can’t say no.” She points at you. “Okay?”
“O…kay?” You reply, suspiciously.
The sweet blue Twi’lek lets out an excited squeal and disappears to her bedroom, returning a moment later holding a grey garment bag, hanging it on the.
“What’s this?” You ask her, a warm smile on your face as you start to pull the zip down.
“A gift for Life Day and also something for you to wear tonight because no offense, you can’t wear your Jedi robes. You’ll stick out too much.” She tells you, honestly.
You nod in agreement. “You have a point. What’s Niner wearing?”
“Not his commando armor. That’s for sure.” She laughs.
You chuckle with her and then pull open the garment bag, a small sharp gasp coming from your lips when you’re met with a gorgeous silky green long sleeved dress. Looking up at Laseema with stars in your eyes, you find yourself choked up.
“Go. Put it on.” Laseema ushers you to the bathroom.
She stands in the doorway talking to you about something that Atin did for her for Life Day but once you put the dress on, she stops talking.
“You look radiant in green.” She hugs you, unable to help herself.
“I couldn’t agree more.” Niner’s voice is behind her in the living room and she moves out of the way so you can see each other better.
He’s wearing really nice slacks and a green collared shirt.
“Are we matching on purpose?” You ask, playfully suspicious.
He grins. “Maybe.”
“Hold on.” Laseema puts up a hand and then grabs her makeup kit so she can put a little bit of shadow on your eyelids, then some sort of eyelash enhancer, and then lastly puts a little bit of color on your lips.
You look in the mirror and you can’t help but smile softly. You feel pretty. As a Jedi, you’re taught to not give into such shallow thoughts or to care about appearances. But you can’t help it. You feel pretty.
“Look at you, cyar’ika.” Niner whistles.
You go warm in the face and grin at him as you walk to him, kissing him. He feels the green silk under his fingers and looks you up and down again.
“Wow.” He shakes his head, unable to believe that you’re all his.
“Stop.” You laugh. “Are you ready? Where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.” He offers his arm and you take it. “Thank you, Laseema.”
Laseema throws you a wink and you wave as you head back out the door and down to a speeder cab waiting for the two of you.
“No hints or anything, huh?” You tease. “Nope.” His large hand settles on your thigh, pushing the edge of your dress up a little bit, setting your skin on fire.
The whole ride, you seemingly can’t take your eyes off of his hand as he lightly massages your thigh. When the speeder comes to a stop, you’re broken out of a trance when Niner tells you that you’ve arrived at your destination. When you get out, you see that you’re at the entrance of some sort of Light Display in the park. You didn’t know this was here on Coruscant… It’s so beautiful…
“Wow…” You whisper as Niner takes your hand and starts leading you down the pathway.
“I know.” Niner grins.
The lights twinkle and flash as you start walking through the pathway. When you look to your left, you see lots of light displays in the shapes of cityscapes, which you assume is to show that it’s Coruscant. It’s perhaps even lovelier than the sight of Galactic City itself.
“Do you know what I thought of you the moment I met you?” Niner asks you, randomly.
“That I was annoying and you couldn’t wait to never see me again?” You grin.
You sense nervousness within him. It’s not a feeling you sense in him often. He’s usually very sure of his actions and decisions. So this… worries you only slightly.
He chuckles and teases back. “That’s one way of putting it.”
You laugh and lean against him even more. “What did you think of me, my love?”
“I thought, and still do of course, that you were the most beautiful, kind hearted person I’d ever met. It scared me, you know… How quick and hard I fell for you.” He admits. “The moment we left you, I wanted so badly to turn back around and go back for you… to ask you to join our squad permanently… or be with us more often. I think the boys knew that. They’d bring you up a lot so that I’d have a reason to talk about you.”
You smile to yourself as you look at the lights while walking, letting Niner tell you things he’s never really told you before.
“We were on some Maker-forsaken backwater planet and it genuinely randomly dawned on me that I was in love with you. I said it out loud and the guys all said something to the extent of ‘No osik’ or ‘Obviously’.” He chuckles.
You know it was Fi that probably said “No osik” and Darman who said “Obviously”.
“I love you, cyar’ika.” He stops you when you come to a fork in the path, both ways leading to extravagant and bright light displays so you feel like you’re glowing underneath all of these lights.
You look up into Niner’s warm brown eyes and see the sparkles of lights dancing in his eyes. “I love you too.”
“No… I…” He glances around before getting down on one knee, pulling a small black box out from his back pocket and opening it, revealing a small intricate green stone on a band. “I love you. I want to spend the rest of what short life I have, with you. I know it’s probably impossible with you and the Order… but I-”
“Yes.” You grin, cutting him off.
“Y-yes?” He looks up at you with wide, childlike wonder.
“Yes.” You nod, kneeling down to throw your arms around him and kiss him. “Yes, yes, yes.”
He kisses you back passionately, hungrily, like he couldn’t possibly get enough of you. You suppose he can’t, if he’s asking you to marry him. To spend the rest of his life with him.
Niner slips the ring on your finger and you both stand up, embracing for what seems like an hour. You can’t stop looking at the ring. It’s beyond beautiful. How he came by this, you’re not sure because clones don’t get paid…
As if he can read your mind, he speaks up. “It was a… gift… from Sergeant Vau… something about how it used to belong to his mother. He gave it to me to give to you.”
“It’s lovely.” You kiss him again. “Thank you.”
“Thank you for saying yes.” He grins.
There’s still a lot of kinks to work out in this marital plan, but you know that you and Niner can overcome anything. Plus, who knew he was such a romantic?
“Did she say yes?!” You hear a distant shout and look up to see the rest of Omega squad standing at the end of the pathway.
“She did!” Niner calls back, exasperated but proud. Fi, Darman, Etain, Atin, and Laseema cheer for the two of you. Of course they’d be here in support of their vod. You’d expect nothing less from this family. You’re just grateful to be a part of it.

“Do you remember what I told you?” Alpha asked, voice intense as he resecured the comlink around your wrist.
You paused, frowning. Alpha had told you a lot of things over the past week and you were fairly sure you remembered most of them, but your nod was hesitant.
“You’re osik at lying,” Alpha said, the sound of his displeasure rumbling around your bedroom like the thunder of an approaching storm.
“I’m not lying, just…” You trailed off, sighing. “I hate that you have to do this.”
Alpha’s face softened slightly, the fierce expression he was wearing easing into something resembling fondness. “I don’t like it either, neverd’ika. But this is part of my contract with the kaminii. If I don’t accept a mission every six months, they’ll take my instructor status. That would mean I’d be out in the field full-time, and then what would you do?”
“Sneak aboard your transport,” you teased.
Alpha rolled his eyes, but there was a smile playing around his mouth. “If you could avoid getting caught by a whole transport full of troopers, the Republic would be better off with you in their place. But I would rather have you safe here where I don’t have to worry.”
“But I’ll be worried,” you told him, trying not to pout. “Just… be careful, please.”
“I will,” he promised, tapping the face of your comlink. “Remember, we can use these to keep in touch.”
“And you’re sure no one will be able to pick up the communications?” you asked. “The Kaminoans are being extra careful and the Republic is monitoring everything. The chance that someone will be able to access our conversation is higher than ever.”
“You worry too much,” Alpha told you and you couldn’t fight your answering laugh. Alpha worried more than anyone you had ever met. He wasn’t offended, though. In fact, he gave you a mischievous look. “Unless you’re planning on sending me something you don’t want anyone else seeing?”
You shook your head, grinning. Alpha was the ultimate soldier and you privately believed him to be the best trooper in the entire GAR, but sometimes, he was such an ordinary man that it made your heart hurt.
The two of you had a good sex life - a great one, if you were being fully honest. Certainly better than you had experienced with previous lovers. But sending dirty messages and images was a little further than you typically went. Not that you especially objected to the idea, but there wasn’t much need for it when you and Alpha lived on the same planet.
“Nothing like that!” you replied, sounding overly defensive even to yourself. Your smile faded as you thought about your real reasons. “If there really is an information leak, we still haven’t been able to find it. It’s unlikely, but possible that the Separatists have found a way to intercept and decode private transmissions. If that’s the case, anything we say could be accessed and used to hurt you.”
“Or you,” Alpha added, looking just as solemn.
“Or me,” you agreed, “though I’m not the one who’s on his way to a mission out in the galaxy.”
“It’s not ‘out in the galaxy’, neverd’ika,” Alpha disagreed, sounding amused and exasperated. “I’m investigating an unusual object. I’ll be a few hours from Kamino, less than a day’s travel. That’s the reason they assigned me: I’m the closest one.”
“And you’ll still have that team with you, right?” you asked, knowing he had answered the question before, but unable to keep from requesting reassurance.
“Of course,” Alpha confirmed, rolling his eyes exaggeratedly a moment later. “Karkin’ commandos. Just my luck. Good thing this is a short mission. Much more than a week with any of ‘em and I’d be court-martialed for friendly fire.”
You nodded, giving a perfunctory smile at his joke as you toyed with the comlink. Alpha stilled your fingers, sliding down until he was cradling your hands in his own. “I want to hear from you every day.”
“But- what if it’s not safe..?” Your voice was quiet, and you hated the uncertainty in it. Alpha didn’t need you to doubt everything he told you. He needed you to be strong. You lifted your chin, forcing a smile as you met his eyes. “Never mind. If you say it’s safe, it’s safe. I trust you, Alpha.”
Alpha frowned at that - the opposite of what you had wanted. “Good, but I don’t want blind faith. You’re clever and you think for yourself. You always have. If you want an explanation, all you have to do is ask for one. Hell, I’ll give you one anyway.”
With a gentle tug, Alpha directed you over to the bed. When you had sat down on the edge of it, he knelt in front of you. The height difference meant you were almost eye-level with him as he said, “I know a trooper named Ordo. He’s good with comms. Probably the best I’ve ever known, but I’d never tell him that. I asked him to modify our comlinks, give them a private connection that can’t be accessed by anyone else.”
“That’s impossible,” you told him, the rote response springing from you before you could bite it back. But you had worked for the Senate for a long time. There was no such thing as a truly private comm channel.
“Exactly what he told me,” Alpha confirmed with a nod. “But he did make it very difficult to access. By his estimate, it would take a dedicated slicer almost a week of continuous work to have access to the conversations. I want to hear from you, but we won’t be in contact that often. All the encryption does is buy time until I can get back here. Does that make you feel any better?”
You nodded, a smile spreading across your face when he started pressing kisses to each of your knuckles. “I’ll miss you, little one.”
“I’ll miss you more,” you assured him, trying to pull him closer.
“Impossible,” he decreed, letting you move him until you could give him a deep kiss. You tried to pour your feelings for him into it. You may have done too good a job - when you pulled away, you were both breathing heavy and Alpha’s eyes were dark. If you had more time, there was a good chance it would have continued into something more.
“I’ll be back before you know it, neverd’ika,” he promised, standing.
You stood, too, wrapping him the tightest hug you could manage. He squeezed you for a second, pushing the breath from your lungs with even that casual show of strength.
And then he was gone.
After Alpha left Kamino - boarding a ship with a group of commandos who worked under the name Omega Squad - you threw yourself into work. You were still on temporary assignment with General Ti and Commander Colt, working to track down the source of the information leak. There had been no real breakthroughs, though, and you were losing any hope of finding the leak.
But that didn’t mean you were working any less hard. You had gone through all of the bounty hunters during the first week and caught no signs of suspicious behavior on the holocams. General Ti hadn’t sensed anything from the Force about anyone in particular, though she warned that it was an inexact method. If the person wasn’t planning to betray the Republic or didn’t see their actions as a betrayal, she had explained, there wouldn’t be any sign of guilt in their Force signature.
Commander Colt had been skeptical of her findings, but had reluctantly admitted that he hadn’t caught any suspicious responses from the bounty hunters, either.
Since then, you had moved on to other potential sources of information. In particular, you hadn’t been able to stop thinking about Alpha’s half-asleep suggestion that information wasn’t passing through Kamino’s communications system at all. You had brought that potential up to General Ti and Commander Colt, knowing that they would give Alpha’s opinion the weight it deserved. They had suggested that you move on to studying arrivals and departures from Kamino.
At first, you had been ecstatic, certain that the new direction would give the answers you hadn’t found from the bounty hunters. But you were several days into studying the logs and there were no obvious sources.
You heaved a deep sigh, staring down at the list of ships that had docked at Kamino’s ports. It was an incredibly short list, made shorter by removing the vessels you had already researched.
“Cheer up, kid,” Commander Colt urged you. “We’ll find it eventually.”
You eyed him, tempted to remind him that you were certainly older than him, but refrained. Things like that only seemed to cause arguments with the troopers.
“Do we really have that kind of time?” you asked instead. “If information is being leaked from Kamino, we need to find the source as soon as possible.”
“I did not ask for your help so you could attempt to carry the burden yourself,” General Ti said serenely. “You must remember that our attempts can only be considered failures if we lose hope of finding what we seek.”
You squinted at her, but respect kept you from replying. It did amuse you to see that Commander Colt looked just as unconvinced by her reasoning as you did. It was probably a sign of the differences in philosophy between the Jedi and the rest of the galaxy. The Jedi were trained to consider their own response to their surroundings. That was a healthy way to live, but neither you nor Commander Colt hadn’t been given that opportunity. In the majority of the galaxy, you were expected to produce results.
“What do we do, then?” you asked.
“We continue our list,” General Ti told you, as though it had been the most obvious answer. Perhaps it had been. “If we have found nothing when we are finished, we will consider a new angle. There is little point in giving in halfway through an investigation.”
“That’s true,” you admitted, rubbing your eyes.
“I’m gonna get some caf,” Commander Colt announced, ignoring the fact that you had started only an hour before and it was extremely early for a break. He stood from the small table and gave you a firm look. “I’ll bring one back for you.”
“Excellent idea, Commander,” General Ti praised. “Meanwhile, I am going to meditate on this matter. We shall resume our investigation in half an hour.”
You nodded silently, but they were already moving - Commander Colt in the direction of the nearest caf station and General Ti for… somewhere she could meditate. No matter how much time you spent around Jedi, you had a feeling that you would never fully understand them.
Left alone in the empty room, you sighed again and studied the list. You had analyzed and notated it days ago. The names that had been crossed out were cleared of suspicion. The ones with check marks were military vessels. That didn’t mean they were automatically innocent, but it meant that tracking down their crew members would be much easier.
The few non-military ships mostly belonged to food and clothing vendors, a company that helped maintain the wave attenuators that generated Kamino’s power, and a handful of powerful people who had been invited to visit Kamino as part of a publicity campaign. Apparently, Dranulo’s actions in bribing Brid into having you removed from the report had echoed much further than Kamino was comfortable with. They were trying to correct their image. Unfortunately, that may have opened them up to an information breach.
You were so absorbed in calculating all the permutations of potential leaks that you didn’t pay much attention to the door opening. It was rather soon for Commander Colt to have returned with caf. The nearest station was still a considerable walk from the makeshift conference room. He would have needed to sprint to be back this soon.
And you didn’t smell caf at all.
That was enough to make you glance up, suspicion growing in your chest. Your wariness was immediately justified when your gaze locked with that of Doni Pender.
You were standing before you could remember having moved. Dimly, you recognized that your training was starting to improve your reflexes, but most of your brain was caught in a surge of adrenaline.
Pender’s eyes widened and he took a half-step back. He held his hands up, palms up to show you that he didn’t intend any harm, but you didn’t relax in the slightest.
“If you do anything suspicious, I’ll show you everything I’ve learned in the last few weeks,” you warned, somewhat nonsensically. He didn’t know you had been taking lessons in self-defense with Zackra Trem. He also didn’t know that, unlike the last interaction you had with him, you could now both take and throw a punch. But if he pushed you, you promised yourself, he would find out.
“Wait, I’m just here to talk,” Pender said quickly, voice pleading. “I need your help.”
“What are we supposed to be looking for?” Fi asked.
Alpha heaved a sigh. He could answer the man, but chances were that it wouldn’t be anything close to professional. Fi was flippant to the point of irresponsibility, something that could end up being a danger to the entire squad and Alpha himself if the mission turned into a combat situation
Fortunately, the leader of Omega Squad responded before Alpha could be too tempted to reply. “An unusual object, Fi.”
Niner was a good man. Alpha heartily approved of him… though he wouldn’t tell him so. That wasn’t the kind of thing you told a trooper, at least not until you had given him a chance to prove you wrong. But Niner was the kind of man Alpha would describe as ‘steady’, someone he could trust to have his back if things went south.
“Don’t you ever pay attention to the briefings?” Atin asked. “It’s been in every one we’ve gotten so far.”
Atin was serious and sharp. Alpha didn’t know for sure what had given him the scar that ran down his face - even if he could guess, having read that the man had been trained by Sergeant Walon Vau - but it was the kind of thing that gave a man some serious edges.
Fi snorted. “You call those briefings? I learn more from listening to civvie news networks.”
Darman, the final member of Omega Squad, shrugged. “Republic intel, Fi. What do you expect?”
Darman was one of the quietest troopers Alpha had ever come across. Normally, troopers in groups were exuberant, verging on obnoxious. Darman, on the other hand, was calm to the point of introspective. He hadn’t said more than a few words since Alpha had stepped onto the ship. Some may have been tempted to call him easy-going, but Alpha had a suspicion that the trooper’s mind was always churning. What was that old civvie phrase about still waters?
Alpha cracked his knuckles, leaning forward to peer out of the ship’s viewport. “According to the intel, we should be approaching the object now.”
“Intel says here?” Fi checked, already grinning in appreciation of his own wit. “Then where are we gonna start looking?”
Alpha fixed him with an unamused stare. “Find somewhere else to be or we’ll check the pressure regulation on that fancy armor of yours.”
Seriously, what kind of squad special-ordered black Katarn armor?
“Fi, take a walk,” Niner ordered, jerking a thumb to the back of the ship. There wasn’t enough space to get him fully out of earshot, but it was a start.
Alpha flicked the switch that activated the ship’s high-powered radar. Maybe Omega Squad had the time to joke around and perform a leisurely search to complete the mission, but Alpha had places to be and someone to get back to.
And that wasn’t to mention that he had been fighting off a gnawing sense that something was coming. That something was wrong.
He pulled his mind back to the task at hand, studying the radar screen with a ferocity spurred on by thoughts of how much he despised leaving you alone on Kamino. Unfortunately, the radar didn’t prove as easy to influence as a sentient being. Alpha was met with a stubborn blankness that was even less helpful than the blankness of the star-studded galaxy stretching out in front of the ship’s nose.
With an unintelligible growl, he glanced sideways at Niner. “Is Fi your tech specialist?”
“No, that would be Atin,” came the welcome answer, followed by a summoning, “Atin.”
Atin appeared just beside Alpha’s chair. “Captain?”
“Can you boost the power of this radar system?” Alpha asked.
After a moment’s hesitation, Atin said, “Do you mean the range?”
“No, I mean the power,” Alpha told him impatiently. Kriff sake, if he had meant the range, he would have said the range. “I want to see if anything nearby is suspicious.”
“That’s not… not really something a radar is capable of doing,” Atin denied. “But I can program the computer to give more detailed information about the intercepted pulses.”
“Good enough,” Alpha confirmed with a nod, watching Atin make the correct adjustments. In another life, he would have made a good ARC trooper. Alpha decided against telling Atin that. More likely than not, it would only offend the man.
ARCs and commandos had an interesting relationship. Commandos - the early ones, at least - were trained by the Cuy’val Dar, many of whom had personal or business connections with Jango Fett. Many were Mandalorians, most were bounty hunters, and all were fierce. There were some who emphasized survival and brotherhood, like Kal Skirata, while others favored training styles that were more vicious.
But all commandos, regardless of who had trained them, were uneasy around ARCs.
Alpha’s personal theory was that their discomfort came from a lack of understanding. Commandos were born into their role. They had been designated for special training and assignments from the first stages of their planning. The kaminii altered genes, everyone knew that, but commandos had a different type of genes than normal troopers.
ARCs were exactly the opposite of commandos. They were special because of what they did, not the specifics of their design. Ordinary men placed in extraordinary circumstances who thought or performed so far above their specifications that the Republic designated them as being capable of more.
Of course, commandos were the most uneasy around the Alpha ARCs. Alpha and his brothers had been trained by Jango himself, and Fett had been harsher on them than the worst member of the Cuy’val Dar. The Alpha ARCs had been trained to place the mission before anything else. It was more important than civilian casualties - hell, more than any casualties, even the men themselves. The mission came first, always. Anything less was a failure, and Fett didn’t tolerate failure. More than once, Alpha’s black and white decision-making had alienated the commandos, the Jedi, and Cuy’val Dar alike.
So, no, Alpha didn’t plan on telling Atin that he would have made a good ARC.
The radar was adjusted in short order and Alpha applied his focus to interpreting the tangled mass of results that flooded his screen. After only a moment, he glanced over at Atin, stabbing a finger at the screen. “What is this?”
Atin apparently had zero faith in Alpha’s ability to understand basic tech codes and specs, since he began an explanation of the general information. “Every section is broken down into the same pattern: distance, hardness, materials, and-”
“I know that, trooper,” Alpha bit out impatiently. He tapped his finger on the same spot in the wall of text. “But this in particular. It’s saying the radar intercepted a close, non-organic structure. It’s solid and metallic, but the only thing I see out here are asteroids.”
Abruptly, the cockpit was much more crowded. Darman stood between Niner’s chair and Atin, with Fi craning his neck in an attempt to see over both of them.
“Where does the scan say that information was picked up, captain?” Niner asked.
When Alpha had rattled off the coordinates, Niner oriented the ship so that they were looking directly at the place in question. Clones weren’t psychic, but Alpha was willing to bet that they were all thinking the same thing: the only thing at those coordinates was a single asteroid, slowly rotating as they watched.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lone asteroid,” Fi said. To his own shock, Alpha agreed with the statement.
“It’s not,” Darman said suddenly, pointing past it. There was an asteroid field to the right ship’s viewport. The field was nearby, not close enough for the suspicious asteroid to belong to it. “It looks like it may have started as part of that.”
“Looks like there’s a ship on it,” Niner warned. Alpha eyed the asteroid even closer and found that the sergeant was correct. A ship was just rotating into view, a noticeable spot even on the medium-sized asteroid. “I’m not finding any signs of life onboard.”
“Should we try to hail it?” Fi asked.
“Don’t bother,” Atin told him. “Look at it. It’s an older ship and not in good repair. If there was anyone onboard when it landed, they’re dead now. We should just tell the GAR that it was a false alarm.”
Alpha agreed with Atin’s factual statement, but not his conclusion. “We’re getting a closer look.”
There was a groan from behind him that Alpha was willing to bet had come from Fi, but he ignored it. Something strange was going on, and he wasn’t stupid enough to assume everything was safe. Not when there was so much at stake.
When the ship was close enough to study the abandoned vessel, Alpha admitted to himself that Atin had been right about the lack of need to hail it. At least one of the transparisteel windows was broken, and there was a large hole in the side of the ship besides. Nothing in there was alive. By any GAR or Republic standard, they could consider their mission complete and Alpha could return to Kamino.
“Suit up, men,” he ordered tersely, using the co-pilot’s controls to land their ship beside the mysterious one. “We’re going in.”
There was a moment’s pause after the order. One of Omega Squad - Darman, Alpha was fairly sure - asked, “We’re… going to explore the abandoned ship, sir?”
“Yes.”
After delivering his single-word answer, Alpha pushed through them all to get to his own pressure- and atmospheric-regulating gear. He had no interest in waiting for them to figure out that he was serious; he was on a schedule.
The inside of the craft was just as abandoned as it had seemed from the outside. There was little dust in the vacuum of space, but Alpha could imagine the way grime would have built up on every surface if it had been somewhere planet-side. The cracked windows made even the interior feel raw, fully exposed to the uncaring void of the universe yawning just beyond the transparisteel.
They weren’t close enough to the nearest sun to get much light - and the asteroid was rotating too quickly for to estimate when that light would hit - so the troopers relied on their helmet lamps to see the ship’s interior. The beams cut through the gloom as best they could, but even five pairs could only do so much. Every man was limited to the space where his helmet was pointed.
“What exactly are we looking for?” Niner asked.
“Anything suspicious,” Alpha told him, plucking a length of cord from where it was drifting through the space in front of him. With neat, efficient motions, he wrapped it into a tight roll and stowed it on his belt. There was no use leaving perfectly good materials behind.
“This whole place is suspicious,” Atin muttered, though Alpha could still hear him clearly through the HUD’s communications channel.
“Then find something that proves it’s an abandoned vessel and we can leave,” he replied.
Darman paused halfway through the process of inspecting the fogged-over control panel in the cockpit. “What exactly would that look like?”
“A body,” Alpha said. The silence that stretched through the comm channel was tense.
A scrap of flimsi was tucked haphazardly into a crevice between two of the jump seats and Alpha worked it free with careful fingers. When he spread it out, he frowned. “I wouldn’t get your hopes up, men. I just found a bill of sale for this ship.”
“Is there a date on it?” Niner asked.
Alpha studied the flimsi more closely, scanning through the standard details to find what he was looking for. “About six months ago.”
When he looked up, all four members of Omega Squad were staring back at him, the blue tint of their visors showing him exactly where they were despite the black armor. He folded the paper and tucked it securely into a pouch on his belt. “Anyone up for a trip to the next level down?”
They weren’t enthused by it, but Omega dutifully tromped down the steep stairs behind him, struggling much less with the narrow stairwell than Alpha did. When they reached the bottom, Alpha found a sealed door blocking their way.
He reported the finding through the inter-HUD channel and was met by unexpected excitement from Darman. “I can blast the door! I have some detonator tape in my kit-”
“No,” Alpha refused crankily. Switching places with a commando on an already cramped stairwell didn’t rank high on his list of enjoyable activities.
“What are you gonna do, then-” Fi started to ask, voice full of scarcely hidden mocking.
Alpha balanced his weight on his back foot, leaned into it, and kicked the door with the other. The thin layer of durasteel bent noticeably under the blow and a single strike from his shoulder took it off completely. He was too old, too mature, and too highly ranked to throw a mocking reply back at Fi, but Alpha did allow himself to toss a single look over his shoulder.
Fi didn’t say anything else.
When he stepped through the doorway, Alpha paused. It took some time to process what he was seeing, but he managed after only a moment. He was in a decompression chamber, something no ship would ever have in the middle of two floors.
“Atin,” he barked, feeling the jolt that ran through Omega Squad. “Get up here.”
Atin appeared beside Alpha in the small chamber. Only a slight intake of breath told him that Atin was as surprised by the decomp chamber as Alpha had been.
“We need to get through that door,” Alpha said, tipping his head to indicate the pressure-locked door in front of him. “But we don’t want to risk depressurizing whatever is down here. Ideas?”
“Sometimes, certain facilities have multiple decompression chambers,” Atin said, but he sounded doubtful. “It’d be a lot easier to guess if this one does if I knew what it was.”
“We don’t have the benefit of intel here,” Alpha reminded him sharply. “That door’s not meant to hold up to this kind of pressure long-term, so we have to move quickly. What can we do?”
“In a ship this size?” Atin paused, glancing overhead like he could see through the durasteel to gauge the ship’s dimensions. “I can slice the panel and open the door, we all rush in, and then close the door and hope it holds. But there’s no guarantee-”
“We have suits,” Alpha interrupted. “I want to avoid tipping anyone off with a pressure change, but it’s more important that we find out what’s going on here than to keep a low profile. Slice the panel if you can. If you get stuck or it takes more than a minute, we’ll get Darman in here to blast it open.”
“A minute is more than enough time,” Atin said, already moving to the panel as he pulled a slicing kit from his belt.
Alpha watched the process in silence. He and Atin had been speaking on the group’s comm channel. The rest of Omega knew what was going on and they hadn’t asked any questions.
When Atin was in control of the panel, Alpha signaled for them to get ready to move. “I’m first through. Atin’s last so he can close the panel. Niner?”
“Me, then Fi, then Darman,” Niner instructed. “Dar and I will take the left half of the room.”
“I’ll take ahead and Fi can cover the right with backup from Atin after the panel closes,” Alpha finished. “Open it.”
The door slid open reluctantly, clearly struggling under the pressure of being the only barrier between atmosphere and the lack of it.
The moment the gap was wide enough for Alpha to fit through, he did. It was one of the times that his stature worked against him, but with some careful maneuvering, he was through. Omega Squad came through behind him, taking up their positions covering the room while Alpha studied the area straight ahead. Even as the door slid closed behind them, he reported, “Clear.”
“Clear,” every commando reported.
Alpha stayed on guard, but his shoulders eased slightly. From those reports, there was no one in the room. No combat. No immediate threat. More importantly, the room was small, extremely basic. The only thing of note it held was a ladder, leaning against the wall.
“A storage room?” Fi guessed.
“Why would they need a ladder?” Darman asked. “They have a staircase inside of the ship and stairs built-in everywhere they might need to go.”
“And a storage room wouldn’t need a decompression chamber before you entered it,” Niner pointed out.
“This is a secondary decompression chamber,” Atin said, pointing around the room to various components. “Maybe the first one was a fail-safe, maybe it was just another set of doors to decrease the strain, but this is definitely a decomp chamber.”
Alpha watched the squad’s heart rates increase as he began stomping around the room, the boots of his armor striking the floor as hard as he could manage.
“What are you doing, Captain?” Niner asked.
“If this is a decompression chamber, that means it leads somewhere,” Alpha told him. “And since there’s a ladder, chances are that it leads up or down. We’ve already seen upstairs.”
The breath one of the men took was full of realization, but Alpha had already found what he had been looking for: a small panel in the floor. The hollow sound it had made when he stomped on it was slight, but definitely audible. When he studied it more intensely, he could see the near-invisible hinges and handle on the panel. It was the work of a moment to open it.
Omega Squad slowly and silently approached to stand beside Alpha as they all stared down at what had been revealed. There was a darkness under the panel, a hollow of empty space that still seemed to be enclosed. There had been a hiss, Alpha recollected, when he had first lifted the small piece of durasteel. A bit of pressure, too.
“We didn’t depressurize this room,” Fi mused, the hush of his voice turning the simple statement into something menacing. “The only reason that should have hissed was if the lack of atmosphere was leaking into somewhere… pressurized.”
Alpha begrudgingly made a new estimate of Fi’s intelligence.
“Judging from the current pressure of this room,” Darman said, “whatever’s down there was either a remarkably large space or highly pressurized. The pressure and oxygen content are capable of supporting human life.”
A check of his own gauges confirmed Darman’s calculations. There had been a slight dip in pressure, but nothing bad enough to make the space uninhabitable.
“We’re on the bottom floor of the ship, though,” Atin reminded them, sounding rattled. “There shouldn’t be anything below this point.”
“The ship wasn’t lifted up on extended landing gear when we saw it, remember?” Niner prompted. “It was sitting flat against the surface of the asteroid. That’s why we thought it was a crash landing gone wrong. It seems like…”
He trailed off, visor pointed at the newly exposed gap in the floor. The rest of the group finished his hypothesis in silence:
It seemed like this panel led directly into the asteroid itself.

Author's Note - I am a firm believer that sci-fi doesn't have to actually be based in real-life science, especially when said science takes place in another galaxy. However, I do want to state that there is, in fact, dust in space. It doesn't collect on satellites or the International Space Station because the equipment is moving too quickly for it to cling (or so I gathered from the articles I read), but it exists. Unfortunately, I had already written about how the abandoned ship wasn't dusty and I didn't want to fix it. Sorry if that ruins anyone's immersion!
Thank you for reading! I would love to know what you think about this new twist or what you thought of seeing Omega Squad! (For anyone who doesn't know, they are canon characters, found in the Republic Commando novels.) Have a wonderful new year!
