@disc0bandit said 'what if Dream owned a comb ?', my brain replied 'you know what would make a great comb ? Hob Gadling's hands !!', inspiration struck and 1380 words ensued ...
Their noses met and slid along one another, the tips of them sinking in the flesh of the other’s cheekbone as their lips collided ; the mechanism of it precise as one engineered for centuries, in spite of the novelty of it between them. Sighs barely escaped the interstice of their mouths, drawn together like lodestones. Their eyes had fluttered shut, leaving it to touch and taste to lead them.
The rest of Dream’s shape remained unmoving, but he did not recoil as Hob tentatively set one hand on the collar of his cloak. Cautiously, considerately, his digits glided up, pluricentennial calluses ー from wielding the guard of a sword to the shaft of a fountain pen ー meeting the unblemished flesh of Dream’s nape. He held it for an instant before venturing higher, until the base of his skull, and the tip of his fingers met the end of hair as soft as a dormouse’s fur.
Dream tilted his face, allowing more than the sole tip of Hob’s tongue into his own mouth, and the mortal took it as an invitation to frankly bury his hand in the dark mane and mold the shape of his skull with it.
They explored each other’s mouths for a moment longer before Hob decided to further his ー so far successful ー tentative exploration of Dream’s figure. He enjoyed his hand where it was, but he enjoyed even more that the other wrapped around Dream’s middle and cradled him against his own flesh, so this one had to ruefully withdraw from his hair, and even more ruefully ー though inadvertently ー pulled Dream’s head back and away from the kiss.
Their eyes thrilled open. Hob curled his fingers and found himself inextricably tangled in the tight knots of Dream’s hair, a meddlesome roly poly caught in cobweb. Hob blinked, Dream mirrored him.
“... well, I would have expected the King of Dreams and Nightmares to have bed hair but you don’t actually sleep, do you ? How is it, your hair is as tangled as if you did ー and did not comb for several nights ? And how does it not look remotely the part ?”
Dream’s response was an enigmatic smile.
“Appearances are in the eye of the beholder, Hob Gadling, mine above any else.”
“Are you saying, that I am actively ignoring the state of bundle of knots of your hair for the sake of my sense of aesthetics , or that I chose for my hand to stay trapped in it ?”
Meanwhile, Hob was cautiously and unhurriedly withdrawing his fingers, detangling the knots in Dream’s hair as he went. The concerned party solely smirked.
“Perhaps you wished for the opportunity to comb my hair and created it for yourself, as I do not innately require it.”
Had he ? Or was it Dream who had created the opportunity ? It mattered little to Hob eventually.
“May I, then ?”
“You may.”
𝄽
They sat on the stairs that led to the throne of the Dreaming, Hob a couple steps above Dream, feet on both sides of him, knees framing him like the armrests of his seat of power. Lucienne had come, bringing with her a bound volume and a task that demanded being seen to by the Sovereign of the Dreaming, and her Lord was now absorbed in reading. Meanwhile, Robert Gadling was carding through the hair of his lover with his bare hands as sole comb, minutely and unabatingly unravelling the knots in it.
“... How ?” came the puzzled exclamation as he let the strand he had been laboring over flutter free of his grasp, now untangled and lithe, and it settled down Dream’s neck and down further in between his shoulder blades. “Are all the knots truly storage for the actual length of your hair when you wish to wear it short ? Is that all the hair you’re allotted for the entirety of your existence and it won’t grow back if you cut it ? Or …” An impish smile stretched his lips and he seized the strand of hair again, pulling it almost taut as he angled himself to whisper directly into the pinna of Dream’s ear. “Or is that really where your power lies ? Would a haircut depose the King of Dreams and Nightmares ?”
Dream emitted something between a huff and a scoff, head briefly tilting back as he found the suggestion both amusing and ridiculous.
“The story of Šīmšōn has already been told, Robert Gadling. It is not mine.”
“No ? Truly ?”
“No.”
Dream’s tone was conclusive, and fleetingly silenced Hob. He straightened up again, eyes riveted to the handful of raven's feather-spun filaments he cradled.
“Has your hair grown long in my hands because I envisioned you with your hair long ?” There was wonder, and reluctance all at once in Hob’s quiet enquiry, as two fingers tackled a new tuft of Dream’s hair.
They fell away as Dream turned to look at him, features a mirror of Hob’s unease. But that fell away also, his expression morphing into reassurance.
“It is my very essence not to possess an appearance of my own, but to reflect what dreamers need come face to face with. I am seldom perceived at all by your kind when walking the Waking. I have no will on the matter upon which you might be infringing, Robert Gadling.”
Hob plucked the instant to scrutinise it : Dream’s cast, and the echo of his words. It was a rare occasion, overlooking the King of Dreams and Nightmares from a raven’s eye as he was now. Dream towered above all and any as a rule, Hob included. That he willed. Hob supposed anybody looking upon Lord Morpheus, whosoever they might be, ought to envisage him with might over them. Perhaps the sole significance to Dream’s appearance was ascendancy.
“You did not choose the visage you were born with either, beloved.”
“Aye, but I am merely human, barely more than mortal. You are Endless.”
“Yet I have no more and no less authority over my own appearance as those under my dominion over theirs. I would have thought you rather fond of the notion …”
Hob laughed. Dream smiled, and took hold of the hand that had been in his hair to bring it up and press lips delicate as moth wings to it, sealing the end of the conversation. Hob dipped to plant a sonorous kiss on Dream’s cheek in retaliation. Then he resumed his task, diligently unravelling the raven-hued strands of hair.
Dream returned to the bound volume in his lap, but the fixity of his neck and the loud absence of pages being turned betrayed his distraction and the shutting of his sight in favor of savoring how tender Hob’s digits in his hair were.
A long time elapsed thus. At last, Hob gazed upon the whole of Dream’s hair rid of knots, supple and silken, and combed his digits through it with as much ease as he would through a lilting brook. As he beheld the completion of his work, he registered that Dream’s attire had morphed the austerity of his customary black robe into lush dreamt velvet, ornately embroidered of black silk. Thicker matt fabric overlay the outline of his cleavage and extended into épaulettes upon his shoulders, leaving vast expanses of Dream’s unblemished neck and chest and shoulder blades exposed.
Hob deliberately draped Dream’s hair over one shoulder and, deliberately still, dipped until his lips were mere inches from the ivory skin, letting his breath warm it before he eventually closed the distance and kissed the offered flesh. His pupil were just above the horizon of his shoulder, and embraced the delight that graced Dream’s traits at the gesture.
The Oneiromancer stood then, escaping Hob’s lips merely to turn back and extend an inviting hand. His new attire was ampler than Hob was used to see him wearing, concealing most of his shape even as it unveiled much of his shoulders and cleavage. A spur to embrace him and regain through touch what had been removed from his sight pricked Hob. His gaze enfolded Dream’s and fettered it as he took hold of the offered hand, was hauled to standing and led out the throne room to wheresoever his lover might wish his presence.

Just helpful for me to know so I can avoid spoilers where possible! It's one of the most (if not THE most narratively important arc) in all of One Piece so I'd rather not ruin it for anyone. Also I'm just curious hehe

Hello. How are you ? I was never abused. I am sorry that I come across ignorant. There is the notion that is harsh to the golden children in a narcissistic parent dynamic. They are treated as they are doomed to be complicit to the abuse or be abusers themselves, is that treatment fair ? What are golden children like ? Are they always doomed to abusers or complicit to abuse and bad people ? Have a have a nice week!
Hi! I'm doing well, although I'm a little overwhelmed by life currently. Hope you're doing well too!
Don't worry about sounding ignorant! We're all ignorant about so many things, and we're all constantly learning new things. I appreciate you wanting to learn more about this topic!
First of all, I'd like to say it's not narcissistic parents who turn their kids into scapegoats and golden children, it's (some) abusive ones. Personally, I was raised as an only child and I was turned into a mixture of both and neither of those roles, so, even though I can share my thoughts on this, if any other abuse survivors would like to add their thoughts as well, I'd love to hear what you have to say about this topic!
All that being said, yeah, I've come across the notion that golden children are "doomed" to turn into abusers. And it's true that, in some cases, that does happen. Golden children do sometimes grow up to still agree with their abusers and repeat the same patterns.
The thing is, the opposite happens too, and I'd say roughly just as often. Scapegoat children do sometimes grow up and become abusive toward others. Maybe the reasoning behind those behaviours is different in each case (think "I'm entitled to demand these things from others because they've always been given to me" vs. "I'm entitled to demand these things from others because they were always denied to me"), but neither of them is particularly more likely than the other to continue the cycle of abuse.
But there are two factors that I think are rarely taken into consideration when these conversations surrounding golden children are had.
Firstly: no one is doomed to be an abuser. Not people with abusive pasts (golden child, scapegoat, or N/A). Not people with personality disorders like NPD. Not people with anger issues or short tempers. Not people of a particular gender or sexuality. Not people of a certain ethnicity or nationality. Not religious people. And I think to claim that anyone is doomed to be abusive is to take responsibility away from that person for their abuse. Because if they were doomed, clearly they couldn't help it—it was caused by forces outside their control. Truth is, even though abuse isn't always intentional on abuser's part, we can all make an intentional effort to not be abusive, if we want to. Even people who have been abusive in the past can choose to stop, and to change. And, just as importantly, even people with zero "reasons" to abuse (no troubling past, no mental/economic/stress/life issues, no nothing) can be abusive. No one is exempt from that potentiality. Every single person has the potential to abuse.
Secondly (and perhaps most importantly): golden children are abuse victims too. Read that again. Golden children are abuse victims too. Yes, maybe they weren't overtly punished, ridiculed or threatened like scapegoats were. But they were shown that love was conditional and compliance non-negotiable. They were pitted against their sibling or relative, forced to take a side because that was their only way to remain safe. It was unsafe to have any opinions or wants of their own that went against the abuser's. They grew up in survival mode, in an environment of constant tension and conflict. And they witnessed overt abuse toward the scapegoat, which, in and of itself, is abuse. (Yes, any minor who witnesses abuse toward another person is a victim of abuse as well. Yes, simply witnessing abuse as a minor is enough for it to count).
Regarding the question "what are golden children like?", every abuse victim and survivor is different, and that applies to golden children as well. Golden children can grow up to be entitled and abusive, and/or they can grow up traumatised, terrified of authority figures, anxious, depressed, kind, patient, with survivor's guilt, feeling worthless, feeling incapable of forming true connections with others, angry, grieving the family relationship they never had, bubbly, dissociated, terrified of being a monster, guilty about their past behaviours or beliefs, continuing to be abused without even realising it because they think what they're going through doesn't deserve that label, or all of it at once. And a long, long etc.
To be a golden child, as well as to be a scapegoat, is to be a pawn in someone else's game, where the abuser holds all the power. You might be granted some of that power if you're the golden child, but that just messes you up in fun and unexpected ways. It's not healthy. It's not safe. The golden child is powerless to leave or change the situation, and did not choose to be put in that situation to begin with. Some of them may actively choose to stay because they enjoy the power to abuse that the situation gives them, but that is an active choice they have made and not an unavoidable consequence of their upbringing. And, in those cases, when they choose to stay and/or perpetuate the abuse when they have the ability to leave, they deserve to be held fully accountable for that decision.
Tl;Dr: yes, golden children (and scapegoats) do sometimes become abusive. But no one is doomed to be abusive, anyone can choose to make an effort to not be abusive, and we can't forget that golden children are victims of abuse too.

how did we go from marvel actors and execs really caring about the fans and what they thought of the movies to every actor for a new project facing criticism telling off “toxic nerds” and not giving a shit if those same fans like it anymore?

Netflix just cancelled another amazing show that really fucking didn’t deserve the axe—and the announcement dropped hours before I finished the final episode and decided to look it up; I’m pretty devastated that I finally found a fresh piece of science fiction that I actually thought was good and it got ripped right out from under us all, so please help us out and sign this petition, and reblog to get more signatures, because even if it doesn’t save the show Netflix needs to know it’s not going quietly

Omg you talked about 2012 TMNT and I suddenly remembered how much of that show I watched when I was younger,,, oh the nostalgia. I don't remember all too much from it now but I remember loving it. I've never watched rottmnt but like. I probably should if it's as good as everyone has been saying it is
honestly i only watched a little bit of 2012 as a kid, i was never super into that style/genre of cartoon so i only watched it if it happened to come on hjsdghj
rottmnt is SO good. it's very very different to 2012 in a lot of ways, but the art and the writing and the voice acting are all sososo good. the characterization for all the turtles is super different as well so if youre used to a snarky Raph and a. well. a Rob Paulsen Donnie. you might not vibe with Rise at first
but thats one of the things i really love about the entire franchise, each version keeps the core concept (four mutant turtles raised by a rat are trained to be ninjas) and most of the characters the same while also all being really unique and having different takes on all the characters. i enjoy this aspect of the franchise to the point that im making my own fan reboots and everything hjksdhg
the main reason i initially watched Rise was because i heard Donnie was really good autistic rep and i have to agree, ive never connected with a character this much before hgjsdhg hes also a really good example of low empathy imo, and i very much feel like my own experience with low empathy is being represented here
the art is something i see people complain about a lot when theyre coming from a background of watching 2012 or 2003, and i definitely felt like the art was kinda weird at first, but it's also so fun and striking and as you get used to it and start picking up on little details it gets better and better
a lot of classic TMNT villains dont make appearances in Rise, and the ones who do are WAY different to the older versions, but they also have a whole ton of new villains who are super cool and compelling as well (Draxum and Big Mama my beloved <3)
the movie can technically be watched as a standalone but i highly recommend saving it til youve watched both seasons because HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THE EMOTIONS. the scene that always makes me cry probably wouldnt hit me the way it does if i didnt have all the background of the seasons
notes on where to watch though: netflix has season 1 and the movie, but i dont actually know how to legally watch season 2, and the site i used for it unfortunately shut down so i can provide links :(
oh god this got really long can you tell tmnt has entered special interest territory for me
