personal star wars opinion vent
idk why people who like old republic star wars stuff like me are so defensive of the old jedi. they werent great. thats why i like them. its ok. “the jedi were actually right” well, i have consumed more than my doctor’s recommended share of star wars movies and books and tv shows and… um, i never had THAT take. what on earth?
like, even Star Trek knows their fantasy space government isnt perfect but the authors were trying to make their best example of a responsible society where people valued being moral above all else. the authors of Star Wars were explicitly trying to show where the old republic and jedi went wrong. they lived next door to sith lords for years and didn’t even notice, like, they weren’t even good at the one thing that was their “spec-ial-ity”. also, its totally cool to separate kids from their families even if the families would want them back? even if the kids are brought to war zones and expected to fight/work? YALL. what are you defending here.
I like the old republic and the old jedi order too, but like, NEITHER one was good and both explicitly had fallen morally to such a state that a sith lord literally took over and the galaxy suffered TREMENDOUSLY as a result of their incompetence. “Slavery is outlawed in the Republic” well dude, its being openly practiced on multiple planets. if only someone could do something about it. like the galactic wide government and their highly moral magical negotiation/military force? oh, they can’t? maybe theyre not that good at doing what they say they do. maybe they say a lot of nice things but when push comes to shove the jedi commit genocides and hide the evidence (murdering those tuskens was downright jedi-like, dont you know?). maybe questioning your government and not letting them get away with shit, even to the point of direct action and even violent rebellion, is a good thing. its almost like that was always the point.

Teenage superhero groups are so good. Not only because they're always really fucking relatable, but also because their relationships are so special. They're like:
“I met you, and I was weary of you at first. We've become closer and closer to the point we trust eachother with our lives, but still not with our identities — it's sad, but it's how it is.
You've cried to me about how your mentor didn't listen to you, about how they yelled at you and didn't seem to care enough. I've cried to you about how my life is so lonely, about how being a hero is taking away my life, about how I can't be a teenager anymore because I can't rest without feeling like someone will die because of me not being there.
We've fought together, and we've fought eachother. We've cried together, laughed together and yelled together. We've saved the world together. We were never meant to be apart.
The other day, you were brainwashed and turned evil. You were tortured, striped away of your own being. We tried to help you anyway, even if our mentors told us not to. We still spent hours shopping for a birthday gift you'd like a few months later.
We're slowly growing up, and we're leaving the safety of our mentors's cloaks. We're going through different paths; always down, always falling, but not as together as we were before.
Some of us have found our own proteges. I'd like to say I'm better with mine than my own mentor was with me, and I hope you are the same.
Our proteges have found eachother the same way we did. The happiness from seeing me in your face was everything I needed to be convinced to stay with you.
We've been getting the others to come back, too. We're also recruiting new people, new young heroes who will get themselves killed if they're not guided properly. We're not the same young kids anymore, but we're together once again, and that's all that matters.
We grew up very quickly. I can see it from the way we don't laugh as much anymore, from the way we're the one attempting to stop the younger ones from pulling pranks on us, from the way we train instead of being trained.
We're all adults now. There was a time where we lost ourselves, and we wouldn't find us anymore. A time where I went to our old lair and saw it empty, devoid of life. A time where I tried to call you and you didn't answer. A time where I saw you on TV, with a kid by your side, looking at you like you're their entire world.
We're adults now. We've lost ourselves many times. But we've found eachother again. And I think that's what matters. Because we're not only teammates anymore; we're family.”
Or something like that idk, I suck at writing

"Star Wars isn't dead y'all are just haters" "Disney saved Star Wars" "It's the Woke Agenda that ruined Star Wars"
My mans, Disney single-handedly destroyed the Sequel Trilogy despite the Force Awakens being the gateway to something potentially fantastic; MCU'd the Mandalorian (a story which originally had nothing to do with the Prequel and OG Trilogy aside from sharing a universe and exploring a sect of a completely different culture/ideology); ego-boosted both Filoni and Favreau to the point where their OC Verse is not only canon but openly disregarding the Star Wars Universe Bible/Lore; gave us a snippet of what an extremely misunderstood indigenous culture is actually like (instead of portraying them as the savages one of the white leads mislabeled as animals that deserved to be slaughtered) only to then wipe out the tribe we got to know for no reason other than shock value thus alienating indigenous/poc viewers in the most disrespectful way possible; completely threw away the entire message of TCW (that being a clone does not make you incapable of being your own person who has their own thoughts, ideals, moral compass and overall identity) by making TBB (a show that does have it's strong points in set design, soundtrack orchestration and overall sound design, but is extremely weak on both characterization and storytelling because they either make the meaningful plot points stretch too thin or focus on the wrong character completely) their go to show marketed for kids instead of the actual kids programming that people shit on for being for, surprise, kids; constantly disregards valid critique from their consumers (to the point where infighting in the Fandom has gotten extremely ugly) that people either give up on interacting completely or simply vanish and take all their things with them (because no one seems to understand where these critiques come from, or how being unable to admit your special little show is imperfect is actually not a good thing for both you and others).
This isn't even accounting for the fact the Fandom seems to have doubled in it's overall toxicity since Disney took over. Which is par for the course when a mega corporation takes hold of something that started out extremely political in nature anyway. The Cash Cow machine needs feeding after all...
#Eps Talks About:#Funny enough this started as an argument between my sisters#One of which isn't a Star Wars fan and the other who is an OJ and Prequels fan#My mom (who was the one to introduce us to star wars mind you) and I watched from the sidelines#Mom didn't care because she doesn't like Modern Star Wars stuff but I ended up putting an end to the argument#My younger sister is right that Disney put too much emphasis on SELLING Star Wars to newer generations to a detrimental degree#but that doesn't mean they invalidate what came prior to their shitshow or the message SW was created to uphold#in fact Andor and SW Visions S2 made a point of being the best homages to the OJ trilogy thus far by being very political in their messages#But my older sister is also right that the state of Fandoms these days is very much a US vs THEM situation in terms of how people make#themselves heard and how meeting in the middle is virtually impossible which is very much a product of social media and how people conduct#their personal image via either genuinely expressing their feelings on certain topics or simply using them for clout#It is a case of locking yourself in a room with an 'adversary' and trying to see who can scream the loudest until someone loses their voice#I love star wars but that doesn't mean I'm blind to the fact star wars also kinda sucks lmao but oh well these are just my thoughts that#I'm letting loose because I'm already pissed off from something else going wrong today and have no patience for some of the rancid shit#that keeps cropping up in either tags or posts I find in and out of Tumblr Dot Com

NASH DURANGO HAS TWO MOMS!!! She has two moms!!! The fact that the wikia is willing to put her pronouns but not the fact that she has two mothers in her profile, is very homophobic, but it’s still a win for SW!!!! This is the future we want our kids to have!!! The gay one!!

I'm probably just a little sensitive to it cause my mom and I JUST had a whole conversation about Star Wars people being physically incapable of locking their ships on Monday, but it felt so dumb that Phee left the ramp to her ship down in today's episode! She feels like too smart a character to do that, and I get Star Wars characters do it all the time and suspension of disbelief and all, but Come On Man.

I think it would an exceptionally funny if Anakin survived, got the Vader suit, but found his way out of the dark side last minute so he could raise his two kids. Like, here’s little Luke, little Leia and their goth scene cyborg wizard dad.

Thinking about how Asajj should adopt Merrin (Jedi: video game series). Or Deathstick (Star Wars: Uprising, Disney/current SW Comics). both work tbh. Unrelated, here's her being feral in Halcyon Legacy

my hero leia organa getting hera out of trouble, c3po my boy returning to my screen on her behalf, mon mothma being a badass leader ahsoka practicing the saber forms with anakin’s training videos, the fact that anakin even made these videos for her in the first place, the way i almost cried during that whole scene, ahsoka saying “that’s my style” with that lil smirk, thrawn being a badass the whole time completely unphased by everything, ezra saying “what, why?” about ahsoka training sabine (all of us lowkey lmao), the chaotic sibling energy in the entire episode, ezra force fighting like a motherfucker, his absolutely ezra moment of saying “wait we can talk about this”, his reunion with ahsoka :’) I loved this episode your honor

My experience as someone raised Catholic is so weird because like. On the one hand I'm sure some of the ideas I heard in it have contributed to the particular form my mental illnesses take. But on the other hand mass was SO boring to me as a kid and it was before breakfast time and I had ADHD so I truly did not pay attention to it except for the times when I would have a moral crisis and spend a few weeks paying perfect attention and singing all the songs and such so I don't know how much it actually affected me compared to like. Other people. I mean I certainly don't know much about actual Catholic beliefs other than the basics (and what I learned from reading a heavily annotated scholarly edition of Dante's Inferno). Probably some of that is down to the fact that my family stopped going except for holidays when I was in like 4th grade for a variety of reasons.
Like I've had relatives respond "haha yeah that's Catholic guilt" when I talk about being excessively anxious + guilty about something but I also have anxiety and depression so. Who really knows what the cause was.
(Also sidenote its pretty fucked up for me to describe a mental illness symptom and have a relative be like haha yeah that's Catholic guilt. Like have we considered that maybe that's bad actually if your religion is doing that to you)

So my mom and I were talking about the upcoming tbb episode on our video chat today, and she hasn't read The Dark Disciple/seen most of Clone Wars since it aired, so I was explaining some of the Nightsister magic and who Quinlan Vos is to give her some context for potential theories. As I was telling her about Quinlan's psychometry, I was describing how it works and I got hit with the terrible/brilliant thought:
The batch has Tech's goggles from when he fell.
If who Fennec was contacting was Quinlan Vos undercover as a bounty hunter to try and rescue other Jedi/force users as he establishes The Path, he could find the batch and tell them about the m-count stuff, but. He has psychometry. And Tech's goggles are Right There. He could find out what actually happened and tell them.
Anyways, I'm gonna go chew some drywall and try not to let this thought consume my every waking moment until 3 AM on Wednesday as if that'll stop me
