_______________________________________________
If I only could
Thomas heard the singing-humming as he entered the kitchen. It was Newt by the counter. His back turned to the door, he didn’t notice Thomas enter. Thomas didn’t make a sound; he wanted to appreciate this moment for a second longer before interrupting.
Mhmhm mhmhm deal with god
Newt kept humming when he didn’t know the lyrics anymore. He only did remember one verse, so the rest was all humming. But he remembered the melody, though, and it made for a beautiful piece of singing. And Thomas loved to hear it. Cooking was Newt’s favourite thing to do; and listening to him sing as he cooked was Thomas’s.
And I mhm mhm swap our places
At that moment Newt moved to grab something and he needed to move in a way that revealed his limping. Thomas was a bit caught by surprise. It was one of those situations when you realise what feels obvious, but it took you some realising either way. The sad story behind his limping was diametrically away from–but at the same time, in a way, completely twin with–the lyrics that he sang so tranquilly.
I’d be running up that road, be running up that hill
The sound of the voice which sang absently was accompanied only by the quick thuds of a knife’s blade against the wood of the table. Minho was almost with his back turned to the entrance to the tent. It could be possible for him to notice someone arriving, but he was too in an absent-minded focus, as he got, to see Thomas there. Minho developed an intense interest in cooking after they settled down at the Safe Haven.
Be running up that building
It gradually became more and more common for Thomas to enter the tent where they had the makeshift kitchen of the Haven and find Minho there, cooking, singing.
If only I could
Thomas always had to control himself not to go to Minho and touch him. He had to remember to announce himself, or he’d cause Minho to jump to the roof in a fright. Sometimes even just talking to announce himself made Minho jump a little. That’s how focused he got. Sometimes he’d quickly turn away from where Thomas stood and pretend to be very busy at the counter. Thomas learned to just leave him to his tears when that happened and pretend not to notice. Thomas thought it was the silliest thing in the world and would almost get mad at Minho for not allowing Thomas to help him, to be there for him and with him.
I’d make a deal with god. And get him to swap our places
But he learned that each person copes differently; and they need to do their thing. Minho was getting better at not suppressing his emotions, “Letting it flow,” just like Thomas himself and Newt had instructed him to do a million times back in the Glade.
Newt.
I’d be running up that road, be running up that hill.
But deep down Thomas understood Minho, and he felt the same, in a way. The will to hide the hurt. He sighed and, before he knew it, a tear was rolling down his cheek. The sigh made Minho look. Worry crossed his face when he noticed the moistness in Thomas’s face.
“What, what’s wrong?” He asked.
Thomas shook his head a little. “It’s nothing.”
If only I could
“You look just like him.”

Let's talk about books!
So I started reading a series I spent a lot of time avoiding because I tried reading it in the past and I just... couldn't. Finally, after something like 7 to 10 years I've come back to it.
That series is called:
⭐⭐The Maze Runner⭐⭐
Now now, say what you want but everyone reads differently. Back when the book first came out (I'm literally talkin like 2011-2013 era because I got it at the scholastic book fair at school and I cant remember the year I got it), I tried reading it. I got MAYBE like 5 chapters in to the first book and put it down.
Recently, I've picked it back up as I previously said and let me just say:
I
Am
Loving
It
My style of reading has changed to "eh, I'll try it" and I'm glad I picked it back up because its phenomenal.
BUT onto what this post is really about.
I have never in my life read a book series that the movies are SO FAR OFF FROM.
First book was like, "eh, there's some big differences but not enough for me to be like, "I don't recognise this from the movies" (besides the Grievers rolling - which had me rolling honestly). (Yes, I watched the movies first. I didnt really think I was gonna pick the books back up so I gave into the temptation of watching.)
But I've found that each book has had drastically more differences to the movies. Like in The Scorch Trials. They are forced to go into the scorch in the book. While in the movie, it's just them trying to get away from WICKED (which is understandable). But I'm just reading the death cure now—I started the series on the 10th of May. Sue me.—and my God, I dont recognise the movie AT ALL. Which, I'll admit, is nice because the things I remember from the movie I think about and the book takes a completely different direction and throws me for a loop.
ALSO!!!!!!
You're trying to tell me that Thomas doesn't have a thing with Newt? Like, you're seriously trying to sell me on the point that Teresa is the ONLY love interest Thomas has? Really? A few examples:
"He found himself thinking of Newt, maybe the one he liked most of all of them."
"Newt gave him a suspicious look. 'Best of the best, those guys. Have to be. Everything depends on them.' Newt picked up a loose rock and tossed it, watching it absently as it bounced to a stop. 'Why arent you one?'"
"Thomas turned to see Newt there, smiling. That grin sent a wave of reassurance through Thomas, as if he were finding out the world was okay again."
"Most people call me Thomas; well, except for Newt. He calls me Tommy."
"Imagining one of the guards hurting Newt made Thomas tremble with rage."
"He was surprised at his reaction. He hadn't realised how much Newt meant to him until the declaration."
"Glad you're not bloody dead, Tommy. I'm really, really glad."
"He was genuinely concerned—Newt was one of the few people in the glade he actually liked."
"Thomas couldnt stifle his worry about what Newt was thinking. He'd opened himself up and he really liked Newt. If Newt turned on him now, Thomas didn't know if he could handle it."

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

Derek teaching unknown werewolf societal/cultural facts to Stiles is cute, and I love that for them, truly, but I want to see the reverse.
We're always hearing about when someone (usually Stiles) asks a naive question about werewolves and Derek going "No, you idiot! It doesn't work like that!" As if it's common knowledge that everyone should know, when in reality there's no possible way Stiles (or any average person, for that matter) could know that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I'm sure in Derek's world, stuff like silver not actually being effective against werewolves is a no-brainer or spotting a Kitsune is laughably easy, but not to the common bystander.
So, instead, I'd love to see the random, human customs and social norms Stiles would find himself needing to explain to Derek when they start living together. Stuff that the human family members of his pack never displayed because they had been raised surrounded by werewolves their entire lives.
From all the small things like how, when you get a canker sore or lose a filling, you always gotta stick your tongue in it. ("No, we don't want to do it. It hurts like hell, actually. It's just something we do. Don't ask me why. I honestly couldn't tell you. It's the same with picking scabs or pressing down on bruises.")
Or like how you're not supposed to eat the weird, little black nub at the bottom of the banana. ("I don't care if it's composed of the exact same stuff as the rest of the banana, that's so fucking gross 🤢")
Or like how you have to walk around ladders instead of under them ("Because otherwise you'll get bad luck, Derek!")
Or how, for a short time in history, a man wearing a singular earring on his left ear meant that he was gay for some reason. Or was it the right ear? ("Hey, listen, man, I didn't make these dumb rules!")
Or how you can't pick up a penny off the ground unless the face side is heads up ("Yes, it's another 'good luck, bad luck' thing. We actually have a lot of those, now that I think about it.")
Or how if someone far away sees you coming and holds the door open for you, you very specifically have to do a customary tiny wave or acknowledging nod before doing a small little half trot-half jog that isn't too slow or too fast all the way to the door. ("Because you don't want to take up their time, but also you don't want them to think they've inconvenienced you. Yeah, no, I get that they already have, but you don't want THEM to know that.")
All the way up to things like the weird history of Coke Zero, even though Diet Coke is essentially the same thing. ("Oh, now see, that's actually pretty interesting. And by interesting, I mean dumb and terrible. See, in the 80's, Coke only ever marketed Diet Coke as a 'woman's drink', so when they finally decided to expand their demographic, they had to spend millions of dollars to undo their own conditioning because their women's only Diet Coke campaign had been so successful, it took decades for men to stop associating drinking diet soda with being gay or effeminate.")
Just so Derek can finally know what it feels like to be on the other end of "common sense."

Thomas was in love with Newt. Newt was in love with Thomas. The thing is though, Newt had the flare. So, Newt knew that if he were to tell Thomas, then his death would hurt more. But Newt knew Thomas loved him, or could love him. And Thomas loved him through what he did for him. But couldn't place it. So yes, Thomas loved Newt and Newt loved Thomas. So, they had love..they just didn't have time.
