He was a shepherd. He shepherded stars. He was to put them where the Man in the Moon said. He knew. Jack knew. But the she was lost. And weren’t stars meant to guide lost princesses home?

"No, I can't let you do this." Her hands covered his gripping the staff, as desperate as the plea leaving her lips. Tears broke the trails of gold his thumbs had drawn across her checkbones, over her freackles scattered across them like stars. She was beautiful. The chuckle that bursts from him is both fond and helpless, his warm eyes looking deeply into hers, his lips trembling. Breaking the staff would mean never shepherding stars again, severing his ties to the Moon court, becoming nobody's son, Jack —hers. He found himself thinking that was everything he ever wanted to be. "Would I become too much to handle, sweetheart?" She laughs as her body surges towards him until their foreheads touch, the happiness radiating out of her dancing across his skin. He had chose her, over the Stars, over the Moon who would not miss him. To Hell with them. She had enough light for them both —she was the Sun princess. As if to make a statement, her hair began glowing, the specks of gold in his eyes glimmering. He was beautiful. "Never."

Tiana barely had time to process whatever the hell that dream had been when she saw the note from Aurora. Her stomach dropped. Suddenly, none of that even mattered anymore. Aurora was missing, she was maybe sacrificing herself (?!) to save the town, and... this was what they were supposed to be avoiding all along, wasn’t it? They had to do something. They had to save her.

Tiana snatched the note and tore through the house, shouting Ella’s name, for once not even thinking about disturbing the dog or Willa. Lolly appeared alongside her quickly enough, and by the time Tiana found Ella, she had tears in her eyes. “Did you see this?” she said, shoving it at Ella. “She’s-- she’s gone.” Tiana couldn’t hold it in any longer. She burst into tears.
