Personal Opinion: Oh, the sweet sweet enemies to lovers trope. Oscar and Jack are constantly at each other’s throats. Always sniping at each other and being overall grouches. But it works for them. Even if Oscar doesn’t realize it. They’re an oddly adorable pair turned couple and if you’re like me, you’ll be shocked by just how cute they can be together.

Likes:

- The first kiss took my breath away. Literally, it happened so quickly and naturally that I was taken aback because Oscar and Jack had never kissed before that point! It was such a moment that I was enthralled in it. And it was just written and described so well, I wish that I could write a kissing scene that was half as impactful.

- Oscar’s anxiety is relatable and the way it causes him to self-sabotage his relationship with Jack is painful but real. I love how his friends were there for him though and helped him see that maybe, just maybe, he was in the wrong for the way he reacted to the kiss and flipped out on Jack. But also, he has anxiety and they get it. At least, Ronnie gets it.

- The friendship of everyone in the Motherfuckers is so pure and wholesome, I love the roles that they all play in it. But I love seeing the depth in Oscar’s and Ronnie’s personal friendship. How they ended up being college roommates and Ronnie was pre-transition and she was a scared 18 year old girl and Oscar was there for her through it all. He’s a mess but he’s such a good friend and it made me so happy just seeing him and Ronnie interact over the course of the story.

- Like with Declan and Sidney, I like that Oscar and Jack have these unique dispositions that make them a perfect fit for each other. During their sex scenes, they were constantly egging each other on and sniping at each other and it worked for them. It definitely does not work for me but I like seeing their interactions as just uniquely them.

- Also, Oscar deliberately just hanging around until Jack would come home so they could fuck was so cute for some reason? I don’t know, he’s just such a grouch but he respects Jack’s privacy while he’s cleaning the house and he lingers while organizing just to be there when Jack comes home and it’s oddly domestic. I love domestic cuteness. And then Jack had the audacity to come home one day with sushi for two and I lost it. They are so oddly domestic together and it’s so cute.

- Evelyn is such a spark of joy. I adore her. She’s hilarious for casually introducing Oscar as Jack’s “young man” and also for getting the house painted neon green while Jack was at work. Not to mention her very irreverent but sometimes very wholesome humor. Oscar is right, she really is the coolest old lady ever.

- Jack being so understanding of Oscar’s condition is also so thoughtful. He wasn’t bothered by the fact that Oscar’s new meds were affecting his libido and when Oscar expressed his traffic light system for anxiety, Jack didn’t judge. It’s just so sweet and I honestly cannot believe I rooted so hard for their relationship when their sex scenes were so… verbally violent and aggressive. But also Jack explicitly and openly loving Oscar’s plus-sized body… mwah.

Dislikes:

- Their sex scenes are weirdly aggressive and verbally violent. It works for them obviously but there were some moments where I worried things were going too far? I don’t know, maybe it’s just not for me personally. Maybe it’s hot for others.

- There was this whole chapter where Oscar was just wallowing in his depression and it was just a lot. Every detail was concerning his wallowing and I just don’t really know how much of it was actually necessary to the storytelling? Because it was just all mundane and maybe it could’ve been condensed into… a few paragraphs? Rather than a whole chapter. 

- Oscar flipping out over the kiss is obviously overreactive but like hey, anxiety is a bastard. So I’ll let that pass.

Preston “PK” Kingsley is in love with his best friend Art. They drunkenly kissed in college once, and now he can’t let go.

Instead of telling Art how he feels like a normal person, PK decides to write a book about being the perfect boyfriend, where he can say how he truly feels.

Before long, the book takes off and people everywhere are obsessed with his character, including Art. PK’s success has gotten too big to tell Art, so he decides to pull a “romantic” stunt and announce he is the author of the book at a huge signing, where Art, and everyone else, will be. When his “brilliant” plan backfires, PK not only might lose a chance at dating Art, but lose them as a friend forever.

Spoiler alert, they end up together.

This was a super cute romance, and I loved the idea of PK creating a book in order to get his feelings out.

The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was PK was kind of annoying. Loveable, but annoying.

Would definitely recommend this book if you want something fast and easy to read!

Day 21

Ok things are definitely desperate now. You thought you were desperate weeks ago, but this is a whole other level. You laid sweaty in your sheets, hopelessness creeping in as you stared at the ceiling. The morning light shined in, giving your room a soft, warm glow. 

This time, you had tried mixing it up while you masturbated, and thought of Eric. That kind, handsome man who looked like he walked straight off of the cover of a bodice ripper in the 90’s. Yet still- no orgasm. 

Eric had been out of town for work, so you’d still been unable to test Wanda's theory with a real dick. And to make matters worse, Loki had been insufferable. He’d increased his flirtations with you, which you can’t help but suspect it’s because he knows you and Eric are talking. 

Now Loki blatantly hits on you, and you thought you might die when he caressed the small of your back the other day. It’s as if he’s constantly teasing you, keeping you right on the edge without relief. 

And it doesn’t help that none of the team are currently on a mission. Everything is calm, and all of your co-workers are around, making you even more stir crazy. You’ve busied yourself with museum trips and hanging with Wanda and Vision, but it’s not enough. 

But relief was just around the corner. Today Eric gets back, and the two of you have yet to make plans. You decide there’s no way you’re giving in to Loki now, especially with his performance at the fair and the fact that he only seems to want you when you’re interested in someone else. 

You took a deep breath, trying not to let yet another missed orgasm cloud your judgment as you texted Eric. Play it cool, and not like you’re miserably horny and in aching need for a good fuck. 

Hey, do you want to meet up tonight? 

Within a minute, Eric replied.

Yea, that’d be great! Just tell me when and where and I’ll be there ;)

A stupid grin spread across your face, you loved how easy it was with Eric. Here he was, excited to see you, and not teasing or messing with you in anyway. Just available. You imagined Loki and Eric as a little devil and angel on your shoulder like those old cartoons and chuckled to yourself. You’ll go with the angel- it’s probably a better decision in the long run. Its always so interesting to me whenever I hear a joke on SiIva completely out of my circle - and even MORE interesting when its something I'm able to fully vibe with regardless.

Yeah, full disclaimer, I'm really not familiar with 2:23AM, the track used for the joke of todays rip, nor the context its oft used in. To my knowledge its a piece of royalty-free music used by some pretty big-name VTubers in their livestreams as pause or waiting music due to its laid-back vibe. Its not the kind of song that strikes you as being royalty-free in the same way Kevin MacLeod's library is, yet its sound is indistinct enough as to be easily associated with any of the streamers that currently use it.

Again, though, even without all of that background - kris gaming is just a damn good arrangement! It follows on the original song's first few notes sounding near the exact same as Deltarune's Don't Forget, and it gives the rip a kind of emotional warmth alongside its original lo-fi relaxing feel. Its kind of surprising just how many feelings come attached to UT/DR's various melodies and how well they carry through into all sorts of arrangements, especially given just how long the SiIva channel has been ripping the two games. Even seven years later we're finding new ways to arrange Toby Fox's music, in ways that are sounding so good they may as well be official.

eg_9371 is, as I described before in The Secret Forest of Bones, the kind of ripper who's been able to just throw himself at any challenge to see if he can do it, and he seems to be basically unstoppable at this point. Even at his massive rate of output, he doesn't forget to inbue his rips with additional touches of flavor - though this rip would have been great as-is simply arranging Don't Forget, it also quotes Hopes and Dreams and Dating Start! from Undertale in a surprisingly natural way and turns this into a heartwarming little road trip down Undertale's soundscape. Its damn cool to see what people like eg_9371 can do with jokes so seemingly out of nowhere for the channel, and how much those in the know are able to appreciate it.

Finding Out

Sequel to 'Those Small Details' - except this time the team finds out about Kris and Erik. Hilarity and chaos ensues, because it's them, of course it does.

Intuition - Jake, Jarry, Rusty

Training is odd today, especially where the four musketeers are concerned. As if there's some grand secret the four of them are sitting on. Jake watches Kris and Erik skate laps around the rink, two streaks of white with raven black hair flying behind them both. They stop at the blue line and talk about something. ''Oh, hey, Erik, wanna recreate Raleigh?'' Kris says.

Erik projectile spits his energy drink out, looking flustered. ''Kris, are you...''

Kris smiles, and rolls his eyes. ''Oh, no, no, not with the kids around. The other thing from Raleigh, with Duncan Keith?'' Erik smirks, and downs his bottle. ''You're on.'' Rusty watches as they set up a race, Jarry notices the electric gaze they share. They take off, skating backwards in a lap around the rink, Kris just barely beats Erik out. Erik doffs his helmet, Kris says. ''Still got it.'' Erik nudges his hip, and says. ''Never lost it, Legend.''

Jake blinks first, looking to his two best friends. Rusty and Tristan both nod, there's something there, there has to be something there.

Languages - POJ, Rakell, and Dragon

Pierre-Olivier, Ricky, and Marcus are in a rather unique hockey position. Serving as common tongue confidants to two absolute legends of the sport. PO being Tanger's sounding board in French, Raks and Dragon being the same in Swedish for Erik. The trio have kinda bonded over this, and learned from their leadership core along the way. That doesn't mean they're particularly prepared for everything. As they learn twice in one day. The boys are getting ready for a big game against Vancouver, Erik looks over to Kris. ''Ready, hjartat?'' Marcus and Ricky have to contain their shock. PO almost spits his mouth guard out when Kris responds. ''Let's do this, amour.'' Okay, okay... what the fuck?

The game ends with a 6-5 loss in a dramatic shootout, with Sam Lafferty of all people ending it with a ripper. Kris, like he always does, blames the loss on himself. Erik kneels in front of him, comforting him in near perfect french. ''Kris, regardez moi, sil vous plait. Je t'aime, mon coeur.'' PO sends Sid a slack jawed look, Sid is misty eyed. Kris asks, in near perfect swedish. ''Lova mig, alskad?'' Erik nods, and says. ''Oui, je vous prometre.''

This is when Marcus nearly faints, because Kris says, eyes shining with something older than his little Frans. ''Jag alskar dag ocksa, Erik.'' Ricky looks to Geno - who was closest to Horny back in the day. Geno just smiles, and shrugs.

Sleep - Gravy, Ned

The team are about an hour and a half out from a game against Minnesota, and are all assembled for roll call in the lobby. Except for the two most important defencemen on the team. Sully sends Gravy and Ned to wrangle them down for the bus to XCel, they first try Erik's room. Ned knocks on the door. ''Hey, Karl, game day, remember?'' Nothing, he tries again. ''Erik, we kinda need you up for the game, dude.'' A friendly hotel maid, Kayla, Ned remembers from this morning, says. ''Mr Nedeljkovic, Mr Karlsson isn't in that room.'' Gravy asks, feeling Sully's frustration three floors up. ''Where is he, then, Kayla?''

Kayla smiles and says. ''Room 15, Mr Graves.'' She goes back to her work, Gravy quickly realizes. ''That's Tanger's room.'' They go down the hall, Ryan looks in the peephole, seeing the duo in Kris' bed, arms wrapped around each other tight. ''Oh... my God, Ned, look.'' Alex takes a look, they look so peaceful, and on any other day he'd hate to disturb them. But, it's a work day. So, he knocks. ''Kris, game day, we're all waiting for you.''

Kris says, sounding half asleep. ''Okay, I'll be right down.'' The duo head down, and inform Sully of status. A few moments later, both Erik and Kris appear in the lobby, suited and booted.

Jealousy - Flower

It's become tradition by now, ever since 2017, for Flower to hang out with his three brothers after games against each other. Erik, for all his novelty, has slotted in nicely to that tradition. Erik knows Kris and Flower used to be partners in crime, and loves seeing his partner with his old best friend. But, that primal part of him still thinks they're sitting way too close together. God dammit, Kris is his. So, Erik slides up next to Kris, who instinctively wraps an arm around him, allowing Erik to lace their fingers together. ''You jealous, amour?''

Erik says, free hand placed on Kris' thigh. ''No idea what you're talking about, hjartat.'' Flower looks perplexed, fluent in two languages, and competent in two more. He knew they were a thing once upon a time, but that was ages ago... wasn't it? ''Uhm, so... what the hell? I thought you two were broken up!''

Kris nods, and kisses Erik's temple. ''We were, we've been back together since 2019, we live together now.''

Flower turns to his old leaders. ''So, uhh, did you two know about this or...''

Sid nods, looking bashful, any other season Flower would no doubt have known well before anyone else. ''Yeah, we've known for a while.'' Geno adds. ''We were like this too, Flower.'' Erik grins like the fucking cheshire cat when he jokes. ''No sniffing around my man, Fleury, cool?''

Flower smirks, already planning his family initiation prank, maybe asking Tags to put 'Lovebirds' on their jerseys. ''Got ya, Karlsson.''

Kiss - Everyone Else

Team lunch after a long training session is brotherly as always. The older guys on the team sit and eat together, talking about other games and potential strategies against their rivals. Kris dumps his lunch dishes, when his phone pings - PA zoom meeting. ''Alright, boys, the PA needs me. I'll be in the media room for the next hour or so.'' Kris zips his team hoodie up, adjusts his hat, and - as if they're at home and not in front of the whole team - leans down to kiss Erik on the lips. They come up for air to stunned silence. ''Uhh, Kris, I think the cat's outta the bag, hjartat.'' Fuck, right, they're not at home, but he's the conscience of this team, so fuck it. ''I think it's been out of the bag for a while, amour.'' He kisses Erik again, and says. ''I'll see you at home, have fun on powerplay drills.''

Erik smiles as Kris strides away to his meeting. ''You're cooking tonight!'' Kris, pleased as punch with himself, spins around to say to his partner. ''You love me, don't deny it.''

Erik nods. ''Damn right I do. You love me too.'' Kris finally admits it in public, after all these years of secrecy. ''Oh, fuck yeah I do.'' He goes off for his meeting. Carts looks to him for some kind of explanation, so do Eller, Nieto, and Acciari. ''Well, when did this all happen?'' Noel asks. Erik just vaguely says, finishing his lunch. ''Raleigh 2011.'' Because neither of them feel like rehashing their story, it's time for writing its new chapters.

Just a quick ficlet, it's twin felt unfinished, so I just had to have the rest find out - including Flower, because there's no way he wouldn't. And, these two are just utterly shameless when everyone does find out.

Personal Opinion: This is the first time I read a book where a polyamorous grouping was the center of the story and it is riveting. Seeing the way Diego balances work with his wife and his boyfriend is actually sweeter than I could have imagined. Seeing Mason learn that this is a life he could lead, being a married man’s boyfriend, is fascinating. And seeing the way they come together is just so romantic.

Because it really is what he deserves. He was able to romance Mason with outdoor picnics and inside jokes about spies and secret dinners in an alleyway and it was just so beautiful. The way he just has so much love and adulation for his wife and his boyfriend are just admirable. And I love that he gives 100% to both those relationships. I can’t imagine stretching myself like that but good for them for making it work.

- Claris is a badass. She had to come to terms that her husband is polyamorous and by the time she did, she was actively looking for people that she thought would be a good fit for Diego (i.e. Mason). She brought them together and she rooted for them wholeheartedly by pushing them to go out on dates and telling Diego that Mason really wanted to share a coffee with his partner in bed someday. Something Mason had told her months before but she remembered and knew it would make him happy! Not to mention, Claris works with charities and non-profits and queer youth and wants to start a foundation that helps women of color looking for proper medical assistance for their problems and how can you not love that woman? She is just remarkable.

- Mason’s mom is a cool lady too. She didn’t completely understand the pansexual thing at first but she supported her son regardless. She switched to a more accepting church when her old one said they didn’t want Mason around the other teenagers, “corrupting” them. She forgave Declan for breaking her son’s heart because that’s what Mason had wanted and while she’s not thrilled about Mason dating a married man, she also sees that it would make him happy and once again, supports him 100%. That is a good parent to me. No, that is a great parent.

- Oscar and Jack were an unexpected highlight in this story. Just Jack calling Oscar “snookums” had me rolling. But I also like how casual their relationship is. Like Jack just touching Oscar and Oscar not recoiling from it shows how close they are.

- I love that across all three of these books, none of the main characters got a relationship that is conventional. Declan and Sidney are “datefriends” with no actual terms of commitment for each other. Oscar and Jack are essentially exclusive friends with benefits. And Mason is dating a polyamorous man who has a wife. But all these relationships and how they decide to label them (or lack thereof) is valid. It feels like a celebration of queer identity and love the way they all express themselves so differently. And while Mason needs time to get used to the fact that his boyfriend has a wife, he wants to try. And that in itself is beautiful.

Dislikes:

- I think I’ve gotten my fill of this writing style and plot formula. It’s sort of played out, the protagonist has a meltdown, says things they don’t mean, goes radio silent for days-weeks, and then repairs it all with a conversation. I am so tired of the solution of a problem being: JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER LIKE ADULTS. My big issue with this particular book is that it took two months and also, Mason gave Oscar so much flak in the previous book when Oscar has severe anxiety!

- I also don’t like how minimizing Diego seemed about Mason’s feelings. I think he explained it very well. But when Mason was talking about his insecurities and jealousy and Diego sort of dismissed it, it didn’t sit right with me. Especially because he said monogamous people that get jealous cheat like ALL monogamous people cheat! It's just, what is wrong with Mason wanting to be someone’s one and only?! He’s NOT polyamorous! He’d never envisioned his life to be this way! Why is he in the wrong for just wanting a monogamous life? I know that Diego didn’t frame it that way and that wasn’t Ripper’s intention either but god, it felt invalidating to me.

- Also Tim is a perfectly fine guy and it truly upset me that the Motherfuckers not only didn’t give him a chance but they were all in for Diego who’s married and not for the guy they never met. I get it, Tim didn’t make Mason happy like Diego did. But why the lack of enthusiasm? Why does Tim have to be ghosted and have his time wasted just because Mason doesn’t have his shit together? I hate collateral damage in love stories. He was just ghosted. Twice.

the Landfill is a new sub-area of Trash Zone where Swoleton’s vehicle/shop, the Royal Ripper, is located.

Now Leaving Cyber City (Desert Road)

Silicon Desert is the homeland of the Addisons in this setting (as I’ve hinted at before,) and another new area in this AU. In the story, the player doesn’t see much of it outside of a brief driving section, following Kris slipping on the banana Queen told them to collect and making a wrong turn on the Highway.
