"Say" Karma asks with his eternal strawberry milk in hand "are you a cat person or a dog person ?"

Gakushuu doesn't even bother to look at him. It's been month now that Akabane daily hangs around him, starts absurd conversation just for the love of it, and jumps on every single occasion to compete with him. Gakushuu is kinda used to it now, but he has yet developed a skill to fully ignore the boy.

"I'm a cat person myself, you know. I think cats suit you too."

Gakushuu doesn't answer, even if he knows that he eventually will have to. Akabane never gives up with his weird questions. He's only putting things off.

"Well I guess dogs are more convenient to you, since you love giving orders and everything. I mean, you're a leader, you want loyalty, dogs are great with that."

Gakushuu sighs. He's only trying to eat his bento in peace, but peace is a complicated things to reach when Akabane Karma is in your life.

"Are you going to write an essay about wether dogs or cats are more suits to me ?"

"Well I would if you don't answer, I have to make my own conclusion. So, dogs or cats ?"

".... Neither."

Karma rolls his eyes and puts his drink down on Asano's desk. Because of course he was sitting in front of him, he specifically came to disturb Gakushuu during the lunch break. It began a month after the start of the school year. At first it was one day every two weeks, then one per week, then three, then every day. The whole class was also used to it now, the weird rivalry-friendship-flirtous relation they have. Gakushuu still finds that annoying.

"You can't say that ! If you have to choose between a dog or a cat, what would you take ?"

"I don't know. Does it matter? I don't have a preference."

"Of course it matters !! How can you say something so stupid ?! It means everything ! It kinda define your personality but go off I guess !"

As usual, Akabane is dramatic. Gakushuu sighs again. Why such a fuss about a simple question ?

"I have never had a pet." He doesn't even know why he tries to explain himself. Isn't he allowed to just not have a preference? "I don't know what they're like."

"What ? How could you nev- Oh. Yeah. I guess your dad isn't the type to offer you a cat for Christmas."

"No, he really isn't." But the mental image makes him smile. Internally, of course. Can't be seen showing emotions when Akabane's looking.

"Well you don't need to actually have a pet to know which one you prefer. Imagine, a few years in the future, you live in your own apartment and you have a good job and enough money. You can do whatever you want, even adopt a pet. What would you choose then ?"

Asano thinks about it, he even stops eating to visualize the picture. What would he choose, if he can have anything ?

"I don't know."

"Asano."

"What ? I really don't ! Why should I like one better than the other ?"

Abakane seemed genuinely exasperated, he couldn't believe what he heard. How can a person not have a preference! It's a crime ! He should put the strawberry blonde under arrest, but he isn't a cop, and Gakushuu would probably be out in a matter of hours. He's way too perfect to stay in jail.

"Look at that" Karma shows him his phone, "and tell me that does nothing to you !"

It's a picture of a black and white cat stretching. Gakushuu looks unimpressed, which only increases Akabane's outrage. The red-haired boy keeps scrolling his phone to shows pictures and video of cats and kittens, trying to get a reaction from Asano. But the only thing Gakushuu does, beside frowning, is commenting a simple "okay I guess."

"YOU HEARTLESS BASTARD, THE FUCK YOU MEAN 'OKAY I GUESS' ????"

"Don't yell and don't swear."

He realized then that the whole class -more precisely the remaining students who don't eat at the cafeteria- were listening, and now looking at them. Hell he hates when Akabane makes a scene like this.

"Those are the most beautiful and cute and perfect creatures that have ever existed, and you DARE to say that they're only okay ???? What kind of psychopath are you !?"

"It's a pet Akabane. Besides, between us, you're the psycho one."

"A pet- A PET HE SAID. CATS ARE FUCKING GODS AN-"

"Oh my god, shut up, will you ? I didn't said I don't like cats, I just... I don't know."

It's Karma's turn to sigh. The boy is looking at him as if he was an alien inable to communicate with a human language. Gakushuu stares back. He isn't the weird one, he convinces himself, there's no problem in not liking pets.

"So dogs it is then ?"

"Well, uh... Not really. I don't particularly like dogs either."

That's when Ren joined the conversation. He hands his own phone which shows the Instagram page of one of his friend. A girl and her dog running in the snow. It was a pretty cute picture.

"Here, what do you think about it ?" Ren asks with a fake innocentsmile. He is clearly up to something and Asano doesn't like that. He feels like they're making an alliance against him. Akabane lean toward them to see the picture and Asano's reaction.

"Hm" said Gakushuu after looking at the screen for 5 long seconds. Ren laughed, Gakushuu frowns, and Karma protests.

"The FUCK you mean-"

"Stop swearing I said. You're insufferable."

"And you're fucking weird. How can you not react ? Do you have a heart ?"

Asano shrugs. He takes his bento and starts eating again, ignoring the look everyone is giving to him. Honestly, he's kinda satisfied to see the annoying human nuisance sighs. Karma seems desperate and the fact that the roles are reversed is extremely funny to him.

"You cannot not love pets." Karma groans.

"Well, obviously I can."

Ren gets closer with his chair and puts his own food on Asano's desk.

"You're neither a cat or a dog person but there must be a pet you like." He assumes with a thoughtful face.

"What are you doing ?" Gakushuu stares with murderous eyes. His childhood friend laughed it off nervously.

"I'm just curious ! I never got to know your favourite animal, that's all."

"Maybe I don't have one."

"That's sad" points out Akabane. "Or maybe you love hamster but you're ashamed of it."

This time Gakushuu sighs again. He sighs often when Akabane is around, and that means everyday since the beginning of the year.

"Well a little mouse maybe ?"

"No" Asano deadpans.

"Ew" Sakakibara comments.

"They're cute tho," Karma protests. "Wait I'm showing you a picture."

"My sister has an hamster." claims Koyama while handing his own phone.

Asano looks at it but doesn't say anything, fully aware that everyone was waiting for him to react. It's not that he dislikes being when people stares at him, they always do, but he isn't the kind of person who talk about themself. His father always reminds him to give private information carefully because we never know what people might do with that. And, well, he's father is not the best role model, but it's the only one he has.

However, the main problem right know is that Asano really doesn't know what pet he likes. Cats and hamsters and dogs may indeed be cute if you take the definition of the word, he can see that, but he doesn't feel any particular affection toward them by looking at those pictures.

"Well ?" asks Karma, staring at him curiously as if he's trying to read his soul -and he probably is.

"What ?" Asano really has nothing to say, and it shows. "Well, it's alive."

"Gods can you hear yourself ? You're the worst human alive." Karma takes back his strawberry milk and starts drinking obnoxiously.

"We should try mice then" Akira proposes. "You said you'd show a picture Akabane."

The cat lover looks up to him but before he could answer, another students appeared next to Asano's desk. Apparently, their classmates, who listened to the entire conversation since the beginning, took the Virtuosos' intervention as an autorization to join the debate as well. The most brave of them, a blonde girl with round glasses, gives her phone to Asano to show him a picture of three little mice.

"Th-their names are Iku, Aki and Uka" she mumbles.

"Oh. Well... Okay ?"

Akabane slams his drink against the desk.

"That fucking 'okay' again, is that the only word you know ?"

"I don't know what you're expecting from me !!" Gakushuu finally snaps.

"A fucking human reaction ! Is that too much to ask ?? When I look at cats, I'm like 'awwwwwww so cute I want to adopt them and cuddle them and feed them' but YOU don't give a shit about those little fluffy angels and I don't know how you can be so heartless !! Do you ever feel anything ? Are you a robot ?"

"I do feel things, thanks" Asano grunts. "I'm just not a pet person."

"All pets are differents, there's plenty races of cats and dogs. Maybe you could like one." Sakakibara fully ignores the deathly glare Asano has and keeps going. "Like a golden retriever and a bulldog are nothing alike."

After those words, in a matter of three minutes, the whole class gather around the poor student representative to show every pictures of their pets. There are plenty of cats and dogs from all races and age and Asano quickly lose control of the situation (not like he ever had it in the first place). He doesn't know where to look at, he's fully surrounded and is forced to stop eating again.

Despite that, he still doesn't really react to what he sees, and Akabane is know completly convinced that his rival is a future serial killer. Asano tries to reach his bestfriend for help, but Sakakibara is too busy trying to not laugh to hard to do anything. Betrayed by his right hand man, Asano turns toward the other Virtuosis, but they're no help either.

And that is the moment when the teacher comes back to class, only to see his students all gathered around Gakushuu's desk with their phones out.

Gakushuu is of course the first one to notice, and immediately stands up to greet him and to tell everyone to go back to their place. They groan but obey. Except, of course, Akabane.

"What happened here ?" Asks the teacher out of curiosity.

"Asano said he never had a pet before so we're trying to guess what he could like."

Gakushuu glares at Karma, who shrugs with a smile.

"He said he's neither a cat or dog person" Karma continues, "but he must be something."

Asano expected the teacher to dismiss the boy for starting irrelevant conversation, and to remind the class to stay serious about the work and everything. He certainly didn't expected him to hum with an amused smile and to answer "I knew someone once who had a bird pet. Do you like feathers Asano-kun ?"

He really doesn't expect that. What was he even supposed to answer ? And why was the teacher joining the circus ?

"I... Don't think so ? Birds are louds." Gakushuu explains finally, but he doesn't seem really sure about that. Karma notices and grins when he gets up to go back to his own desk.

"I guess they are." The teacher opens his binder to the lesson he prepared. "Well, you guys should talk about this outside of class hours. Let's continue where we stopped..."

Gakushuu is clearly relieved to go back to a serious subject appropriate for school. Little does he know that Akabane has no intention to stop this debate.

slightly different route:

the legendary one cycle sprint to ascension! route suggested by @sevenrs which i decided to try. the route is honestly pretty similar to what i was doing before, with a few minor tweaks that ended up making it faster than my original route.

as you can see from the score screen though, it's not actually 'one' cycle; i starved twice to bring my karma up so i could go to pebbles. but the game doesn't know any better :) tbh this was pretty fun, particularly because i'm more familiar with the route now. if you're okay with navigating drainage system and filtration system in the dark, you can give it a whirl!

For a person who bonded onto Miles Edgeworth like a baby duck, when I write I really do focus on Phoenix and his struggles way more than Edgeworths.

“Are you sure you know how to drive this thing?”

Lando looked offended at the question and purposefully hit the waves in the wake of Charles' boat, launching the JetSki into the air. Your arms tightened around his waist as you lifted from the seat and your heart rose in your throat at the height of the jump. It was instant karma that he winced at the deafening scream of terror you made but it wasn’t enough to drown out the men laughing at your expense on the yacht.

“Where are you going?” Lando asked with a laugh as you abandoned him and jumped into the sea.

“To change my underwear, you dingbat,” you joked as you swam towards the Monza, making Lando nearly tip over as he tried to turn around while doubled over laughing.

When you reached the Monza, Charles offered his hand to help you up since Pierre was too busy cackling to himself. “Did that use up one of your nine lives, kitten?”

Charles arched an eyebrow in disbelief as he looked at his friend who had been taking pictures all day just to annoy Daniel. “Mate, do you have a death wish?”

“He must have, especially if he posted any of those photos.” You reached into your bag and grabbed the powder-blue oversized Enchantée sweatshirt you had stolen from Daniel. Pulling it over your body was the closest you could get to one of his hugs when he was busy with work and when you took a seat there was enough room to tuck your knees up inside it too.

“They are very good pictures,” he defended himself as he took another couple of Lando pulling up alongside the boat, Charles at the helm and you watching the sun reflect on the shimmering surface. “I could be a photographer, I am an artist.”

You looked at Charles and rolled your eyes. “He took one decent photo of Kika, who is the most photogenic person on the planet, and now he thinks he’s Kym Illman.”

“I’ve taken more, but she would kill me if I showed them off,” Pierre admitted with a smirk.

“Oh my god, mate,” Charles groaned a laugh. “That is not smart. Think, if you get hacked, then what?”

You gave Charles a little clap at the point he made but Pierre just laughed it off without a care. “You worry too much.”

Red Bull Training Facility

Sweat drenched the singlet Daniel wore but he pushed himself to finish the last rep knowing a break was coming as soon as he was done. The routine physical fitness test was never fun but the fact it was taking him away from time with you left him in a sour mood. He was doing his best and results were better than ever because he knew the sooner he finished then the quicker he could head home to Monaco where you were waiting.

“Alright, good work. Take a breather, get a drink, and be back here in 10.”

Daniel was quick to grab his phone with his bottle of water and took a seat on the Swiss ball. His lips tugged up into a smile when he saw the messages from you, wishing him well and how much you missed him. He replied to them first, promising everything he would do to show you just how much he missed you too.

Seeing a tonne of notifications on Instagram, he opened the app next and his jaw clenched at what he found. All through his dashboard were images of you wearing next to nothing with the two-piece swimsuit he gave to you. He was surprised the sweat on his body didn’t turn to steam the way his blood boiled.

The whole day had been caught in a series of photos Pierre had posted. There was one of you standing at the bow of the Monza as she pulled out of the marina, you diving off the back and swimming to Lando who had followed on Max’s JetSki, you sitting behind the British driver with your arms around his waist. Every swipe to the next image left him feeling hollow and empty as he watched his kitten’s smile grow with each one.

Until it was gone.

Daniel cursed as he found a picture with terror clear on your face. Lando had launched the JetSki over a wave and you had held onto him for dear life. That was the last photo on the vessel and he sighed with relief when the next photo erased every chaotic thought he had had. You were snuggled into his sweatshirt and watching the sun like you did at home. Daniel would often find you in a similar state most mornings as you sat on the balcony overlooking the sea, a hot tea in hand and his clothes on your body.

Daddy Ric: Stealing more of my clothes, kitten?

When you feel like you’re having too much fun you have a gut feeling that something bad happens after. I’m not saying it’s karma but let’s say it's how the world balances things. and sometimes that feeling comes in the form of an Instagram live.

“Is it on?”

“I’m not sure, can..can you check”

“No, no. it’s fine now. I can see myself” the previously dark video suddenly lightened up when a very confused Sarah looked at the camera.

“There it is!! Hello, we are having a small get-together here, and it’s just around half an hour before the new year and we decide— well I decided to turn on Instagram and celebrate with you guys.” She smiles towards the camera and placed it in front of her as happy voices can be heard in the background

Looking through the comments she smiles “Happy new year to you too!! What are you doing?- uhm I’m doing a live.” Taking a drink Sarah looked up when a voice asked her if she wanted a cookie.

“No, I’m fine sweetie just place it down there, I’ll get some later,” she sweetly said as she places her drink down.

“Any upcoming movies this ye- Yes I have a movie coming up but I won’t talk about that.” continuing to answer question after question, Sarah became unaware of what was happening around her. Her peace of mind was interrupted when a sharp scream rang out the whole room.

“What the fu- hey put her down! Don’t— oh lord I can’t handle when the three’s all together.” With a hand on her forehead, she lets out a breath as she took a sip of her drink.

“What’s happening? Well to answer that I am currently babysitting my supposed adult guests, but I don’t know really.” shuffling and footsteps were evident in the background before something similar to a heavy object being dropped followed by giggles were heard. Looking past the camera, Sarah stifles a laugh at what she's seeing. With a shake of her head, she looks at her phone, comments filled with questions of “what’s happening?”, “Who are you with?”, “you look like a stressed mother.”

Taking the phone she stands up and moves further in the room, “hey, fix yourselves I’m gonna set up the phone here.” Placing the phone on what seems like a coffee table, she sits on the couch and the comments speed through as they saw who was she with. There, sitting on the couch, breathing heavily with drinks in their hands were Oscar Isaac, Y/n L/n, and Pedro Pascal, all looking as disheveled as whatever happened earlier can make them. As soon as you spot the camera, you beamed up a smile and wave towards the camera.

“Hi! Sarah, what’s this?” You looked towards her as she laughed at your state. “I’m on live sweetie. and you better fix up your hair you look like you didn’t comb for a month.”

“Oh thanks, hi again.” Raising your hands you try to smoothen your hair back but all your effort was wasted when Pedro who was seated on your left reached up with a towel of some sort and rubbed it on your head.

“Hey hey, I already told you to stop..” You said loudly as you took a pillow to hit him. Pedro just laughed while it happened and grabbed you by the waist to sit you on his lap, “Fine, fine, ok. I’ll stop just don't hit me again.”

“You keep telling her you’ll stop but as soon as she fixes her hair, you’ll mess it up again” Oscar perks up as he watches by the side.

Shaking his head, “no, I won’t”

“Yes you will, that’s what you’ve been doing since you found that towel.” He countered as he took a sip of the wine he was drinking.

“ Ok, but I’ll stop now. Yeah? Spent too much energy keeping hold of you,” Pedro nods towards you who was still seated on his lap. Reaching forward, you took this as a chance to remove the hand around your waist and went back to sitting beside him.

“Well, it’s not my fault you kept bothering me AND it’s also not my fault your old age keeps you from having fun.” teasingly you said as you took your drink placed on a side table.

Grumbling he threw the pillow you hit him with towards you,” you were the first one to bother me and I’m not old and I can surely keep up on the FUN, you personally know that.”

And if the viewers didn't catch on to what he said, your similar looks of shock cleared the meaning up for them. Sarah looked at you specifically before clearing her throat, “Okay, what time is it?”

“11:51”

“Oh that was quick come on, let’s go look out. They’re probably setting up the fireworks by now.” Sarah said as she stood up and took the phone before giving a look, towards your direction as the viewers believe.

“What did I have for dinner? we had beef stew a specialty of y/n’s mother— thank you for the recipe M/N. And a bunch more the guys brought.” She answered as she tried to open the doors to her balcony.

“Sweetie, can you hold the phone for a minute I forgot I locked this.” She passed the phone to you who was standing right beside her.

“Oh, Sure!! Hello, people of Ms Sarah Paulson’s live, how are you guys?” You asked as you read the comments. Occasionally nodding at some questions. “Where’s Oscar?— oh he’s here, wait! Oscar, someone wants to see you.”

“Huh?” He looked back at you and realization sets in. “Hi! Happy new year everyone! Thank you for the kind comments, yes- oh I agree with that.” He said chuckling.

Curiously Pedro, who was behind the camera moved closer to have a look. “Agree with what?” He asked as he hooked his arm around your shoulders, nuzzling into your neck unconsciously.

“Someone said that I looked like the mediator when I’m with the two of you, which is true enough.”

Scoffing he took the phone and angled it to where both of you were seen.

“ Everyone! You see this? This is what happens when you tease the hell out of me and then pin the blame on me.” He said as the hand on your shoulder then moves to squish your cheeks.

Laughing he got a couple squeezes in before you swatted his hand and Sarah retrieved her phone. “P, I gave the phone to her, how the hell did you end up using it to harass her.”

“You see!!!” Pedro shouted towards the camera and grunted when you hit his mid-section. “Okay, chiqui. I'm sorry, I'm sorry” was softly heard as Sarah walks back to the balcony.

Sighing Sarah opens the door and the coldness from outside immediately enveloped them.

“Fuck it’s cold”

“Ahh winter season at it’s finest”

“Should’ve brought my jacket.” 

“You want mine?” Pedro asked you quietly as he saw that the camera can still see them.

Shaking your head “no, thank you though,” smiling as you looked up at him, squeezing his forearm. “What time is it?” You asked Oscar who you knew had a watch.

“It’s…11:58,” he said towards you as he leaned on the railings.

“Thank you! And as much as I want to step closer, I might freeze before I get there.”

Sarah then pans the phone around to show where you are. “So it’s almost midnight, the countdown will start soon so to those who are watching in a different time zone, happy new year or advanced happy new year!!”

The tv that was left on inside then started the countdown. You and everyone in the building who was on the balcony joined in and shouted as you waited for the new year to enter. Moving to the side a bit, in hopes of not being in the phone’s view. You hooked your arm with Pedro’s and smiled up at him, as he looked down at you fondly.

“ THREE!!…. TWO!!!!….ONEE!!… HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!”, shouting simultaneously with wide smiles on your faces. Jumping up you hug him followed by a deep kiss. Reciprocating it for a few seconds, you part ways to hug Oscar who was in front of you, followed by Sarah who ran to hug you. Unbeknownst to your celebration, you didn’t notice that Sarah had placed the camera down on the table near the door and was able to capture the whole ordeal. And let me tell you the comment section went wild.

Stunned, Sarah let out a gasp and looked at the camera before turning at you with wide eyes.

“Why? What happened” you asked from behind the camera and were heard walking closer when Sarah offered a short message and goodbye before abruptly ending the live, leaving her fans aghast at what they'd seen, before of course taking it to the internet.
