Jiraiya arrives back at your shared apartment late in the evening, his feet dragging across the floor. He had been expecting you to have stayed up waiting for him like you usually did. But for once, as he enters the dimly lit apartment and ventures through looking for you, he sees your figure curled up as small as possible on the bed you share.

He tilts his head curiously, shaking any thoughts of concern away as he stretches and cracks his back. He groans lowly, stripping from his dirtied day clothes and climbing into bed beside you. It doesn’t take too long before he’s starting to fall asleep, blissfully unaware of how horrible of a day you’ve had. You turn over and look at him, snoring softly beside you.

You wonder how he does it. After everything he’s seen and every thing he’s been through, you wonder how he’s managed to always fall asleep so easily and manages to sleep through the night.

Perhaps you were over reacting. What you were feeling wasn’t too bad and you didn’t need to bother him or wake him after he’s had such a long and busy day.

It’s not until you turn back over onto your side like you had been when he walked in, that he mumbles something almost incoherent. When he feels you tense, he sighs softly. “Alright, speak up. What’s going on?” He turns onto his side to face you, giving you a moment before taking your silence as unwillingness to talk.

“Well, fine. I didn't want to talk to you either anyway. No welcome home, honey. I see how it is!” He slips a strong arm around you and tugs you back into his chest, not allowing you to slip too far away from him. “It’s okay… You don’t have to say anything. If you’ve had a long day, that’s alright. But I want you to know that no matter what, no matter what your pretty little brain tells you, I’m always going to be here for you. Even when I’m old and grouchy!” He chuckles and sighs, listening to your breathing as silence falls back over the room.

You turn in his arms and tuck your head beneath his chin, giving into him in the exact way he knew you would. Regardless of whatever was going through your head in the moment, you knew you could rely on him and he would never expect anything in return. Based on the explicit novels he writes, many wouldn’t expect him to be such an attentive partner outside of sex. But luckily for you, you got to see a side of him that no one else ever would get the opportunity to be able to.

Once Jiraiya was devoted, he was locked in for life. He was set on you and you alone. Sure his novels detailed rather risqué encounters, but all of them were inspired by you, of course.

“You’re a dork.”

He feigns shock, hurt, his hand on his heart before taking your hand on his stomach and guiding it up to rest over his calm heart. “Feel that? My heart only beats for you, my love. And yet you wound me, insulting me when I pour my heart out to you.”

You find yourself laughing quietly as his fingers dance along your spine. “Thank you, Jiraiya…” You whisper, sinking into him even more. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Luckily for you, you’ll never have to find out.” He plants a sloppy kiss on your forehead much to your dismay, “Now quit with your whining! I haven't even done anything to you to hear it, and it’s not even the type of whining I like!” You push him away and huff, turning your back to him as he lets out a rather boisterous laugh, “Come back here. You aren’t getting too far from me. I’ll never let you get too far. I’ll be a pain in your ass for the rest of our lives.”

“Thanks for the reminder,” you mumble unamused, but a small smile creeps onto your face at the reminder of a certain ceremony you’ll be partaking in with him in just a matter of a few days.

The baby sannin and the Senju. OK IDEAS UNDER THE CUT

I’ve read it a few times (not often enough) in fic that because of Tsunade’s lineage/family, it’s possible that the baby sannin got to know Hashirama, Tobirama, Mito etc. Basically the esteemed, almost royal, Senju family. By virtue of just being Tsunade’s teammates, I’m sure both Orochimaru and Jiraiya would’ve been kids the family wanted to get to know, and might’ve even come under intense scrutiny and/or affection lmao.

I know the warring era timeline is fuzzy, but it seems like Tsunade knew her grandpa for a while. It’s unlikely for the sannin to be a trio until they’re genin (would be cute tho), but I think would still warrant Tobirama knowing who they are. I’m assuming Sarutobi was already teaching the three, during the Nidaime’s rule, before he takes up the hat. Mito is still alive in Kushina’s time, so she’d definitely see the other two often.

Regardless, I like the thought of this being possible lmao. Tsunade roping her two buddies into her family compound and stuff. (Orochimaru is orphaned at some point and it squeezes my heart at the thought that the Tsunade tries her best to help) ((There’s probably something about the clan not taking orphans, because favouritism and all that but eugh PRETEND))

In any case, I think any students linked to the Hokage or the Hokage’s students are always a big deal as they’re likely to be the next candidates, so the sannin were a very special team from the get go. It then makes sense then for Nawaki, Tsunade’s brother, to be entrusted to Orochimaru (not at all canonically proven to be a sensei-student relation, but still entrusted because it’s Orochimaru, Tsunade’s teammate). This is probably a death that was a rather big deal for the Senju family tbh, and it’d be news in Konoha at the very least, tied to Oro’s name possibly? Fast forward to when Oro’s the only Sannin left in Konoha and the small and dwindling Senju clan, he’s quite terribly alone, leading to Danzo, Root, etc. He made the choice to be a horrible human, but quite a lot leads up to it/molds him into it. Anyway, lmao how awkward it’d be to reincarnate Tsunade’s grandpa and granduncle with Edo Tensei sldkfjngsdg. The god of shinobi going “Omg you’ve grown so tall now, you used to be so kawaii” XD

To delete later: HELP ME FIND A NARUTO FIC!!!

there was a Naruto fic I read years ago that was a found family story centered on Iruka taking care of Naruto over the years. I remember a LOT of specific scenes.

1. Iruka confronts Jiraiya in a brothel for spending all of Naruto’s money. There’s emphasis on gamachan looking sad and empty, plus descriptions of all the people in the bar knowing who Naruto is (cause he lives on a dangerous street) and wanting to help out.

2. I think it ended up being Kakairu?

3. Food as a metaphor for love??? Definitely something about. like. “Don’t neglect your heart, keep your heart as full as your stomach” etc.

4. All the other chunin/teachers are key characters. There’s definitely a scene where they go out and get drunk and give Iruka shit about liking Kakashi.

5. Over the course of the story, Naruto lowkey moves in with Iruka. He just doesn’t go back to his lonely apartment but since they’re not used to having family they just Don’t Talk About It.

6. Ends with iruka adopting Naruto. If I’m not mistaken, there’s literally a conversation about him taking Irukas last name vs Kakashi’s. Something about “scarecrow of the sea” and comparing which combo of names is better.

Anyways, I feel like it’s probably been deleted and that’s why I can’t find it. But if anyone can help or at least confirm they remember this fic it would be much appreciated!

Timetravel Fun

Okay, so ever since I realized Kakashi is the only one of his original team that didn't end up becoming a Jinchuuriki at some point, I've been SO TEMPTED to write a Timetravel Fic where Kakashi takes the half of Kuruma that Minato originally sealed within himself.

Seriously, imagine it.

Another connection to/with Naruto.

Solves Kakashi's chakra problem (if Obito still gets "crushed" & gives Kakashi his sharingan), or an extra power-up if Obito doesn't have to.

Another connection to Rin, if she still gets kidnapped and is forced to become a Jinchuuriki.

Kakashi would now also either have to hide the fact he's a Jinchuuriki from the rest of the village (somehow), or he'll likely face similar treatment to the one Naruto got.

OR, maybe Kakashi goes on a training journey with Jiraiya for +2 years? Jiraiya is/was the current sealing/fuuinjutsu master of Konoha at the time too, after all. In a time-travel situation Kakashi wouldn't feel the need to continue with Anbu, and it'd get him away from Danzo as well. It's a win-win, as long as Kakashi gets back in time to save Itachi from Danzo's (& Tobi's) manipulation.

- (Seriously though, imagine how strong Kakashi could have gotten (quicker) if he got trained by a Sannin - just like Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura got training. Kakashi is SELF-TAUGHT since he was 14y old, after Minato's death if not earlier. Something I think a lot of people forget.)

On the bright side, Kakashi would have Naruto either way. Especially since it'd be a time-travel and Kakashi would have the (better) mental stability to at least hang out with Naruto even if Minato & Kushina die (again).

(Kakashi would likely still look 14y old at Naruto's birth though, so... Probably no adoption? Unless he can sneak off Naruto to Tsunade, who is technically Naruto's last known living relative at the time who would semi-available option to adopt Naruto. If Kakashi can find her).

Also, Kakashi befriending Kuruma early(-ier) would be kind of sweet tbh.

“When was it?” he wheezes, “When did you start to stray? You're the Shodaime's granddaughter, why would you deny his legacy?”

Glaring eyes search for answers in her storm-grey ones. What does he hope to find? What does he see?

She hopes it's anger. She hopes it's hatred. She hopes it's rage.

Let them choke to death on shame.

“Turn back, woman, before it is too late. Things can still be fixed. Stop this nonsense, Orochimaru must have poisoned your mind.”

Oh, Mother Uzu, he sure loves to talk.

“You're wrong, Jiraiya. The poison was in me,” she says. “Konoha put it there.”

“What are you sayi—”

“To tell the truth, I've always hated this world. The violence it justifies, the falseness it calls peace. That… I was willing to suppress.” She smiles. A sad, bitter little thing. “But I suppose I crossed the line when Konoha stood by and watched as Uzushio fell.”

“Wha—”

“It's funny, isn't it? I was just going to be content as an obedient doll when I came here. I was going to serve—” no matter how miserable it made her, “—I was going to be loyal. If you people had just deigned to honor the alliance, we wouldn't be here.”

“That's bullshit. We did our best. Sensei did his best. You're just using it as an ex—”

“Konoha murdered Uzumaki refugees before they could ever reach there.”

He looks like he'd just been punched in the gut. Or trapped, perhaps. Caught red-handed in a way he would not escape.

“What?”

“It's true. Did you not know? Or are you just playing dumb? There's no way you can't know. You're the Hokage's most trusted protege, a hero in your own right. Sarutobi Hiruzen would not lie to you.”

“Hold on a minute—”

The cold soaks through layers and grips them at their core, heavy enough to make him feel as if he's standing in the flow of a flooding river. Thunderclap pulses in time with her beating heart— cold in a way that has nothing to do with the rain and everything to do with her wrath.

Anger enough to rival the roaring of the skies— Wasn't it supposed to burn?

She's sure it would, if the fox-god's chakra coursed through her.

It's fine, though. He'll give it if need be.

For now, though…

“Did you think,” she says, teeth bared in a caricature of a smile, “that I wouldn't know? That I wouldn't find out? Konoha didn't even bother to do something so simple as accept refugees, and you still expect me to stay?”

“This is a mistake.” His voice wavers. “It had to be Shimura, sensei had nothing to do with that!”

“Oh, but I'm afraid he did.” She steps forward. She wasn't expecting him to stagger back.

“Tell me, Toad Sage, do you think a man known to be a God of Shinobi would be so incompetent as to be completely unaware of what his Council members are doing?”

“Stop it…”

“Kirigakure's invasion deprived me of my friends, my parents... and my students. My children. They were no older than nine, when I left.”

To his credit, the man looks distraught enough at the revelation. “You were an Academy teacher.”

She ignores him. “In the name of glory and conquest, that village... They slaughtered everyone from Uzushio and destroyed my home.”

She looks up at the sky, pale dots peeking out from behind tattered clouds. Cold. It's so cold.

“I hear them every night. The screams and cries of my brethren...

Avenge our deaths...

Tear apart the world that failed us…”

She grabs him by the throat, and yanks.

“They're whispering in my ear right now, even as we speak,” she hisses in his ear, low and venomous.

Heat and pain shoots through her arm, and next thing she knows, he's a few feet in front of her, gasping for breath.

There's a bloody kunai in his hand.

It doesn't matter. She'll heal soon enough.

Has the signal come yet?

“You condemn us, but you're just the same! What of all the children you're taking with you? There's no way they'll be safe outside Konoha's walls!”

“They will inherit a world without bloodshed. Be glad for them. They themselves are the future that I will live and die for.”

“You think this will work? You're leading them to their slaughter. You've never been a hero, Hoshiori. Even in comparison to Tsunade, you've always lagged behind.”

Ooh. Hitting her where it hurts now, is he? Too bad she's gotten good at pushing it aside.

“And that matters because?”

“You're delusional.”

She tilts her head, a gesture so childlike it must look alien on her. “Do you think me a coward for turning away from this?”

“I do,” he spits. “You're a coward and a traitor.”

“A traitor…”

She chuckles, soft and dainty. That's sure to piss him off. “Yes.”

There's the signal behind her— she doesn't need to see it to know. She feels it. Even drenched and battered by rain, she feels it.

“I'll betray.”

This ficlet is the accompaniment to this one with Orochimaru, I had actually written this a long time ago but chickened out before I could upload it, I feared it was somehow bad, outlandish, too self-indulgent. Try as I might, I still struggle with that sort of stuff.

But now it's here, with @akatsukitrash 's encouragement!

The context is that Uzumaki Hoshiori, Hashirama and Mito's granddaughter imported from Uzushio to become the second jinchuuriki in Kushina's stead, spurred into action when a young Kushina came running to her for comfort after finding out she was to leave for Konoha and none of the adults would tell her anything. Many things happened in the middle, I won't get into it for now, but things snowballed into Hoshiori secretly laying the foundations for a new home outside of Konoha, resolved to put an end to the shinobi system that let such horrors happen to her homeland and students.

Orochimaru was the first to be folded into the project. Tsunade will... come later. Hoshiori is giving Jiraiya a chance, but he's tied his identity and worth so intimately to Konoha that he refuses to entertain any other option.

The Last to Leave

AU where Oro joins Tsunade in leaving Konoha post the 2nd Shinobi war, rather than getting with Danzo and terrible experiments and such. More info under the cut

I was partially inspired by this wonderful Tsunade centric fic, and thought about how Tsunade, even in grief, channeled it into something productive. In this case, I thoroughly enjoy the idea of her creating a whole new system/organisation that prioritises saving lives/improving wellbeing. And the only way to do that is to leave the system of militaristic shinobi villages.

In this au, Oro decides to join her as head researcher, and the two go on to set up their own ways of doing things I guess???? Idk. But yeah, it kinda kills my soul to think about how the Sannin, if banded together and away from Konoha, could cause a paradigm shift in the Shinobi world, with Tsunade at the helm rejecting the shinobi way of life.

Jiraiya isn’t here because.. it kinda sucks that it’s canon??? That Dan dies sometime after he decides to stay in Ame. sdlkjfgsd. The trio is all toxic, but I think this AU’s tsuna is less so and her and oro keep each other in check.

Hello I am new at this fandom, so I want to ask, is Minato/Kushina became Kakashi's family after Sakumo's suicide a canon or fanon thing? I just read a fic that has Kakashi being punched for "didn't do the same for Naruto" and while I saw many Kakashi valid bashing fics this one, is, weird? We only saw Minato interacts with Kakashi after he was assigned as Kakashi's teacher, just like Kakashi interacts with Naruto after he became Naruto's teacher, so technically he did exactly the same as Minato

Minato is Kakashi’s sensei, not his father figure

Minato and Kushina being a family to him is 100% fanon

As for ‘Kakashi didn’t do the same for Naruto’ he was 14. He was a teenager unequipped to take care of a child and suffering through his own survivers guilt, depression and throwing himself into desths hands.

His friends had to step in and beg that he be removed from Anbu because he was (and i quote) ‘in a hurry to die’

Kakashi would not have been a good parental or brother figure to Naruto. He was no equiped to do that job. The only one who can be held accountable for how Naruto was treated is Hiruzen. He was the one specificlly entrusted with Naruto by Kushina on her dying breath. He is the one who should have picked up and cared for Naruto (Jiraya is a close second but still didn’t have the same responsibility as Hiruzen who literally promised to take care of Naruto)

Kakashi wasn’t perfect but he was also extreamly broken by the system and everything he experienced growing up. For Fandom to put this responsibility on him, a child (again, he was 14 when Minato and Kushina died) is just pure bs. I love a good ‘Kakashi does adopt and care for Naruto’ au, but in no way was it his responsibility and honestly it would have been terrible for both of them

There is nothing canon to back that up and tbh if Minato was considered a father figure to Kakashi it was 1) in his own mind 2) a terrible one??? Like what kind of father figure decides a 6 yr old would make a good chunin? Or takes a little kid on a high ranked mission? (Naruto the lost tower)

Hiruzen put specific orders in for the Jonin not to tell Naruto about his family or really interact with him. The people who knew who Naruto’s parents were and might have provided help to him, had their hands tied by the Hokage

The Theories of Uncertain Presents

Naruto knows that one day he’ll go back home and reunite with his teammates, the only family he’s ever had, but until then he’ll try to find himself.

Literally.

He probably shouldn’t have done shadow clone jutsu so close to an unfamiliar seal.

Okay, I felt like I was dogging on Naruto in the bleak primadonna AU and I’ve been reading a lot of DoS fic which, understandably, focuses more on Shikako and Sasuke doing ANBU shenanigans — more specifically the In a Definite Place at a Definite Time ‘verse and all of it’s spin offs/permutations/inspired by, etc. In which Shikako and Sasuke end up in Warring Clans Era and sort of complicate and encourage peace between the Uchiha and Senju depending on which fics you read, lol.

In particular, I read The Results of Non-Future’s Past by Aryia_Lexi_Sevorus which is where the title of this fake fic comes from, and which resolves the time travel issue with Shikako reverse engineering the memory sharing aspect of the shadow clone jutsu such that there are two version of Sasuke and Shikako, one who stay in the past, and one who receive their memories and don’t set off the seal to begin with. Aryia_Lexi_Sevorus’ fic is about Kakashi joining them. It’s very heartwarming.

But then my brain went… HOW DOES NARUTO JOIN THEM? Because how sad would it be for the Lucky Sevens to only be partially complete T_T

On the one hand, of course it would be LOGICAL if it just occurred when he returns after his training trip and did what Kakashi did to join them, but that’s SO LONG and it’s not like Naruto doesn’t ALSO encounter strange things when he’s on his own, and it WAS an Uzumaki seal plus shadow clones (his specialty) that sends the others’ memories back.

So what if he did it in reverse? (Konoha’s #1 most unpredictable ninja, lol)

As in, Naruto is out training somewhere (maybe Jiraiya’s busy doing spymaster stuff or he’s just being irresponsible, who knows) but he does shadow clone—as per usual when he’s solo training—in a place he shouldn’t ie where there is a similar Uzumaki time travel seal. But instead of making a shadow clone, he makes Schroedinger’s copies of himself one for the present and one for the past. Both of them are the real him because both of them are also the shadow clone. This is basically Everything, Everywhere, All At Once rules: either all of them are real or none of them are real, there’s no “truer” versions of yourself. But we’re dealing with two anyways… although the EEAAT comparison may come back up again.

Anyways, we would follow travelled-to-the-past!Naruto’s POV to the Warring Clans Era where he maybe even encounters the Uzumaki who made the original seal. And, weirdly enough, I almost feel like—in a similar way that his method to get there is opposite to the others—he doesn’t have that many problems integrating with the Uzumaki, and once he figures out what’s happening he just straight up tells the Uzumaki the truth.

And they believe him. Because they’re the Uzumaki. (And, also, if the person making the seal was there then they have an idea of what it could do. In addition, there’s probably a chakra sensor who can absolutely confirm that Naruto is in fact an Uzumaki. And thirdly, even if the Kyuubi chakra freaks them out, I’m assuming the jinchuuriki is Mito’s seal, and I feel like the Uzumaki would recognize her handiwork)

He’s an Uzumaki who gets to discover what the Uzumaki were like! He gets to discover family! He has a clan! All of my Uzushio Feels™!

So it’s more of a “discovering his heritage” fic than a “high stakes undercover don’t mess up the timeline” thing that his teammates are going through, but that’s kind of what the Uzumaki are like. Also, it would be funny if it’s happening at the same time as Sasuke and Shikako’s situation, which would explain where the heck Mito is the whole time considering I think she’s mentioned to already be married to Hashirama but is very rarely in any of the various fic. Like, she went back to Uzushio for a quick errand and then Naruto showed up. They might assume that Naruto is Mito’s descendant anyway considering 1) he doesn’t know his parents’ names, only that he is an Uzumaki from Konoha and 2) the jinchuuriki seal on his belly is probably her style

She’ll go back once she figures out this new Uzumaki situation and lets him enjoy being an Uzumaki in Uzushio.

And at some point Mito is like… I’m going to bring my new little brother to Konoha and Team Seven just does the Spiderman pointing meme before group hugging, absolutely baffling everyone else witnessing. Well, probably not Mito, because she already knows he’s from the future. Although I suppose she’d be baffled by the fact that his teammates are also back in time.

To prevent it from being ENTIRELY fluff, I would probably throw in the fact that, since his situation is extremely different from Sasuke and Shikako, that each time he does shadow clone in either the Warring Clans Era or the Present both versions of him get the memory feedback. So if WCE!Naruto does a shadow clone, both WCE!Naruto AND Present!Naruto will received that shadow clone’s memories—because, again, both are the real Naruto. Which means, eventually, this will be very useful for information passing back and forth once he gets back to Konoha and can confer with his teammates, but for right now if probably very bewildering and alarming. Especially for Present!Naruto who is just getting hit with memories of time traveling and meeting other Uzumaki?

Although, now that I’ve typed it out, obviously that means Present!Naruto can send information back to WCE!Naruto. And obviously Present!Naruto will tell Jiraiya what’s happening, so at some point Jiraiya’s gotta confess that he’s known who Naruto’s parents are the whole time and I guess what I’m saying is—again, in a similarly everything is opposite of his teammates—Naruto’s drama/stress happens in the present not the WCE.

I mostly just wanted Naruto to be included in the time traveling thing and also the Spiderman pointing meme with Team Seven, lol.

Starting again a milion miles away

Guess who had another minor breakdown and worte another goddamn fic instead of finishing her dissertation? Ya girl Blue. Again.

I've come full circle. It took me sixteen years, but I'm back at my very first fandom, Naruto. God help us all.
