Before I go to sleep I leave you all with this piece of advice: sometimes you don't actually have to answer big political questions, sometimes you can just say "I am not smart enough to know that, I just know the small things I do to help." i think that while micro labels can seem useful and affirming ultimately they're isolating and kind of an obstacle to your understanding of self. that's because you can never find a word specific enough. there will never be a label or two labels or even ten, twenty of them to perfectly capture and describe all of your thoughts, feelings, experiences, preferences, needs, interests, identities, etc. because you learn more and more about yourself every day and then you change and your wants and needs change with you. having to hop between labels, fearing that you don't 'fit' into a label anymore (both in your own and others eyes), worrying how soon your current label will wear out, questioning if you'll ever fully fit a single one. all that causes a lot of uncertainty and anxiety which could be avoided by just picking a more general thing and molding it according to what it means to YOU. because words will always mean different things to different people, you will never be understood immediately and maybe never completely by anyone but yourself and that's fine

As promised, part two: deflection, avoidance, and my seemingly counterproductive inverse relationship with these. 

If you’ve ever asked about me (and chances are you haven’t, but maybe you tried once), you will likely come across very quickly some examples of my IMMENSE, awe-inspiring ability to deflect attention, avoid responding to things, and sidestep questions; all while still responding and saying a hell of a lot of nothing in the meantime. 

One may interpret this as me not wanting to discuss the asked about topic, but really this often couldn’t be further from the truth. If I don’t want to discuss something, you won’t know enough about it to even ask. I am notably difficult to read and so if there are any clues towards something going on, those were almost certainly placed there purposefully. Otherwise, i will directly say if I don’t want to talk about something. 

So why do this? Why, when asked about something i want to talk about, do I not take this opportunity to talk about it? Well, you see, it’s really quite simple. I used to. I used to take any given opportunity to talk about something that was on my mind. The issue? people often didn’t care. And people still don’t. Be it that they get distracted, leave, or just don’t want to listen, people don’t tend to stick with me through a conversation about me unless they can make it about themselves. And know what? It fucking hurts. That’s what it comes down to; it fucking hurts when something that means a lot to me is brushed over by people who lie through gritted teeth claiming they care. Again we find ourselves in a case of plausible deniability; maybe you could have responded well if you had the chance handed to you, but likely not, but let’s not certify that information. 

So what is it exactly that I do? I mean, surely it would be obvious, right? You would notice if I changed the subject on a dime? Well, I’m crafty and an asshole. I will answer you question, most often, however I will do so vaguely, then in that vague answer pick a moderately unrelated point to elaborate on. There will be a line of logic from point A to point B that one can follow, but it is ultimately a wilful departure from point A. 

The more specific the question is, the more interesting my response will be to do this. But equally intriguing, another thing i will do, is find a way to blame you, my interlocutor, for my lack of response, to put it bluntly. This is less a fault thing and more introduced as a means of caring; “nothing worth worrying about,” “I don’t want to bring down the mood,” many comments of this variety. All of them work to make you feel like you know about Something, but put you in a position where you can easily leave it there. And most people do. 

“But why not just ask people for help or a listening ear if that’s what you want?” Excellent question, me asking the disembodied questions, glad to see you back here. Because it’s never worked. And if you’ve never begged and grovelled to be treated with some basic human dignity at the feet of people whom you have always supported, then you will never understand how humiliating and dehumanising it is. I know I’m guarded, but it’s because they beat it into me. I am the product of my environment, and maybe one should consider if they had a hand in making it a hostile one. Kick a dog enough times and it pretty well stops barking, yet some have the audacity to turn around and go “why are you so quiet? You don’t have to be, you know?” Damned if i do and damned if i don’t. 

“Okay so then how can someone tell that you’re deflecting, if you can do it rather smoothly?” Well here's the thing, me asking the disembodied questions, the smoothness of it depends on the person. Some people, it takes a fair bit of work, others I know never pay enough attention let alone care enough to call it out, so it can be the clunkiest thing in the world and I’ll get away just fine with it.  So the question to ask oneself; is the current conversation on topic of the original concern? If not, how long did it take to get to the new topic? Some of these people i can do a complete 180 in one message and they won’t say a word. They’re just along for the ride, they don’t give a shit. They’re not an active participant here unless it’s about them. So if the topic rather rapidly shifts to something that you could talk endlessly about, then chances are that either you hijacked the conversation, or i slipped out in a way to avoid further questioning. And I don’t want to change the topic, I want to talk about the original thing. 

“You hear how backwards that is, though, right?” Yes, me asking the disembodied questions, I’m deathly aware of it. Really, it is ultimately a quick check to see if they’re actually trying at all or if i’m definitely pulling 100% of the weight in the conversation. If they don’t protest in the slightest, then they don’t really care, now do they? If they don’t even seem to notice, then are they even paying enough attention to have been able to discuss the topic at hand? They might be willing to bet my wellbeing on it, but I’m sure as hell not. 

So what do you do? If you are actually putting a modicum of effort into this conversation such that you clock that i’m clearly not answering without just saying “yeah I don’t want to talk about that” directly, how might you approach this? Well usually I prefer to leave this to people to figure out, because the venn diagram of people who actually give a shit and people who figure out a working solution is unequivocally a circle.  But I will give you one option for free, much to my future self’s self loathing: say what happened. It is far from rocket science, but to be fair, it is quite simple. Directly call out that i dodged the question without addressing it, and ask it again. Tell me - and show me - that you’re listening. Create an environment where I can feel listened to and cared about. Don’t cut down the trust tree.

But what I must say as well; don’t fuck this up for everyone else. Some people have figured out all by their damn selves the simple rule of “ask twice to get an answer” and if you abuse this, if you start pushing me to answer and then being unresponsive - or better yet, completely fucking off - when i answer, then I will get more sketchy about answering things than I already am. If you aren’t going to try; don’t ask. I gave you a simple out for a reason, if you don’t give a shit, then take the out. Will I be offended? Yes. Bur far less offended than if you push and then let me fall. The first i consider negligence, the latter I consider direct intent to cause harm. And if you do it enough, it will no longer be an option. And then you can have the joy of explaining to all the people who spent months or years slowly approaching the injured deer why you shot it the first chance you got. 

tldr; if you ask a question that i require you truly wholeheartedly listen to the answer for me to respond, i will give you a very easy out. If you aren’t going to give a shit and put some effort in, take the out. But if you actually care and will see it through, if you’re going to try and won’t flake, then ask the question again.

AmysCrypt - Your typical ghost hunting show with two Australians traveling the world, though I will say they do go to places I've never heard of before and they do very good research. And there are some goofs along with the spooks.

The Ouija Brothers - Two British dudes finding ghosts in England. The vibes are generally pretty chill and it's a good time

The Paranormal Scholar - A mixed bag of all paranormal happenings from ghosts to demons to cryptids and aliens. Sort of an overview to deepdives on various paranormal occurrences. The research is immaculate and their voice is very soothing in my opinion.

Paranormal Quest - Ghost hunting in the US, sometimes goofy sometimes serious, but they do go to some interesting places and some familiar ones too

Weird History:

ObsoleteOddity* - This guy is great, like 80% of the things he covers I've never heard of before. Very atmospheric, fun little visuals, and a large variety of weird events and people for topics.

Georgia Marie* - A little bit of everything, but she focuses on strange things that have happened, lgbt history, true crime, and historical disasters. She covers enough of everything that I'm sure you'll find something

Stefanie Valentine* - I'm not sure if she even posts anymore, but I thought what she was doing was great. Think Vampira or Elvira but for older true crime and ghost stories, I think the latest covered would have been like early 1900s. Idk I just thought it was like a cute spooky lil storytime

Caitlin Doughty or Ask A Mortician* - Pretty sure y'all would know who she is but just in case, she's a mortician who covers topics relating to death! From odd ways people have died, or odd things that have happened to people after they've died. And just odd or tragic things that have happened through history. It's silly, but done with levity and care and respect the topics deserve.

General History:

Part-Time Explorer - Mostly history on ships and ghost towns with the occasional train. Lots of research and interviews, very well done and worth checking out even if it may not be your thing.

History's Forgotten People - Talks about sometimes obscure, or sometimes not, historical individuals. Even if you've heard of the person in the topic, they'll talk on something obscure about that person.

History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday - A heavy focus on royalty around the world, a generally upbeat dive into historic individuals.

(Or you could always go watch time team, that's an option and it's my guilty pleasure love me some archeology)

True Crime:

There are so many out there, so I'll just recommend two of my favorites

Gabulosis* - She focuses on vintage cases 20 years or older (literally in her opener) and is well researched and respectful. Another one that talks on cases I've never heard of that deserve to be heard.

Mysterious WV* - True crime and missing persons based in the West Virginia area and neighboring states. Idk how to even explain the vibes. This guy is just great please watch him trust me you won't be disappointed.

Danny was born as a Halfa

So! Jack and Maddie are a little More insane in this.

When studying Ghosts, they become convinced that the only way to defeat the Ghostly Threat is to make a Ghost of their own. One who will fight on their Side. And they do believe that a "Good Ghost" is Possible, but only if fused with a Human to balance out the "Inherent Evil".

So, when Maddie gets pregnant they take the opportunity to try and make one of these theoretical "Halfas" by testing on the Baby in the Womb.

Jazz if Born, and she is not a Halfa. She is merely an extremely Liminal Toddler, so Jack and Maddie consider the experiment a Failure. They raise Jazz as per usual, and then 2 years later Jack and Maddie try again.

They have Danny, and this time he is a True Halfa! They did it! Now all they have to do is turn the Baby into the perfect Weapon against Ghosts!

Danny is raised less like a Baby and more like a Weapon. His Parents still treat him well, and give him some amount of love, but there is never any doubt in his mind that his only purpose in Life is to be the perfect weapon against Ghosts.

The only person who really treats him like something more than a Weapon is Jazz, who likes to sneak into his Room and play with him when they parents are out of the House.

(Later addition: They also have Ellie as a Kid a few years later, but because they messed up the process she is not as Stable as Danny is. She is 4 years younger than he is)

Then, they day he had been preparing for his whole life comes. When he is 10, a Ghost manages to sneak through a Natural Portal into Amity Park, and the Fentons send him to go deal with it as his First Test Run.

But when he gets there, he doesn't find an Evil Ghost bent on killing everyone in town. He finds a Teenage Girl, with blue flaming Hair, crying to herself.

(Idk how long ago Ember died, so lets just assume she died around 6 years before Canon)

He doesn't attack immediately, and when the girl sees him she invites him to sit with her. Against his better judgement, he agrees and sits with her.

She talks to him for a bit, and eventually explained why she was crying. Apparently she only died a few weeks ago and had finally found her way back to the Living World, back home. But when she got there she found that nobody really cared about her Death.

She had died in a House Fire, and because she had spent her entire night waiting for her Boyfriend to show up for a Date, she was too tired to wake up in time to escape.

Her Parents had obviously mourned, but her supposed friends and her boyfriend had hardly cared. In fact, it turned out that her Boyfriend had stood her up because he was cheating on her. So she had run off into the Park and sat down to Cry about it, where Danny had found her.

And Danny is confused.

His entire life, he has heard that Ghosts are Non-Sentient Killing Machines. That they don't feel any emotion aside from Malice. That they aren't People.

But this Girl is as Human as anybody else he has ever known. Perhaps even More Human.

He decides to ignore The Fentons Orders, and lets her go back through the Portal she had come through.

When he gets Home, the Fentons are less than pleased. They are Livid in fact.

Their Perfect Weapon was a Failure after all! It's too much like a Ghost to ever side with the Humans! It's just another Spook!

And they know what to do with Spooks.

They lock him up in the Lab, and decide to cut him open Later to figure out what went wrong.

They'll be successful next time.

Thankfully, their jeers to Danny are heard by Jazz in the other Room, and she doesn't like this one bit. So that night, she takes Danny and Ellie with her and Runs away. They need to get out of Amity Park, out Illinois even. They run and run, sneaking onto Buses, hitchhiking, even jumping on Trains.

Eventually they end up in a place called Gotham City.

🫧 Asteroid Orma in 8th house might be the people to leave an impression of being hella reserved in a mysterious way. Like they might tell you a story and you will always feel like there is something more to it.

🪩 Mars in 3rd house people often say something offending without meaning to and regret the very next second. Trust me it's not their fault, they wanted to say something else and ended up saying something totally unexpected. I was wondering how you think a Yautja would react to being gifted a piece of art? I know damn well that I'm too slow-brained and clumsy to hunt anything, so skull trophies are out of the question, but what about spending time making something instead (Be it a drawing, a sculpture, writing, etc)?

I think... they may be confused at first.

Of course, yautja have artists among their ranks - just as every culture does.

But human art sort of throws them at first. After all, most yautja art still incorporates a hunt of some sort. Think "lots of bone sculptures" sort of stuff.

So when you present them with a drawing, sculpture, or writing, they don't initially really realize it for what it is.

They think it's more of a "look what I did" as opposed to a "look what I took time and effort to make especially for you".

But when you explain it to them; that you're not a great hunter, so you wanted to show your appreciation in another way, they sort of start to get it.

It's like when a yautja gets a particular piece of jewelry for a mate - something flashy to show they belong to one another.

If it's a sculpture, they put it in their trophy room among the rest of their treasures.

A drawing? They hang it in their quarters or wherever they tend to spend the most time.

Writing? They memorize it and either recite it to themselves when they're missing you or, if it's a story, they'll tell it to other yautja.

They start to ask for more. Partly as a way to give you something to do while they're off on a hunt, partly because they like having traces of you in their space.

Also, idk if it would be considered in bad taste (probably depends on the yautja), but I think it'd be neat to paint some of their skull trophies. Especially if you paint typical yautja tribal designs on them.

And, bless them, they try to reciprocate. They try to draw for you, to weave stories, to sculpt something.

Let's just say, they're better suited for hunting.

They try their best though. And really, that's all that matters.

Also, they're fiercely protective of the gifts you make them. The other yautja learn pretty quick not to make fun of them or dismiss them.

This is sort of based off of the core idea behind The second, secret Justice League, so mayhaps consider reading that if you haven't? It'll take you 2 minutes max. Also, here's my masterpost.

So, Danny frequently works with the JL headquartered in the Infinite Realms. Basically, every League-Adjacent hero who died in costume chose to continue their work and make the Violent Afterlife a little safer. It's lead by Jason Todd as Batman (he never revived after Joker killed him in this AU - ....yet?) and has whomever else you like it in it. It's still just called the Justice League because with the zone inhabitants being long dead, never born or aliens, enough of them are unfamiliar with Justice League Earth.

They're better than ghost cops because they all died within the last decade. They remember what it is to be alive, they remember living people who they love and it changes the way that their minds think about crime and criminals in the zone. Their criminals are still people, not just obstructions to their obsessions.

And in a fun swap, Jason lives in mortal terror of the day anyone dares to kill the Joker. He hopes that asshole lives to the age of 108 and dies peacefully in bed so the chances of the Joker becoming an ecto-entity are as low as possible.

The regular, non-secret Justice League are kidnapped by a cool Alien species who want to make them fight. Not to the death, unless you feel like it, but more as a exhibition match. Martian Manhunter, Superman, Green Lantern and Constantine are not pumped to be kidnapped but the Lantern explains that doing well in this tournament will be super great going forward. If other planets hear about Earth's robust defence, they're all going to be less likely to fuck around and find out in future.

So, Constantine, in his infinite wisdom decides to - while they wait for the whole thing to start - summon the "best equipped" Justice League member to fight on their behalf. This other member (he assumes it will be Wonder Woman or Plastic Man) will probably not love being taken to a new planet. But, it's for the greater good and they'll all be taken home later.

But he didn't specify which Justice League - not knowing there are two. A 14 year old (looking) boy shows up. Superman is furious. Constantine, trembling with horror in what his hasty actions have done, explains everything.

Danny's thrilled, he's on a NEW PLANET?! He's met a MARTIAN? And he gets to do a low-stakes fight that could save millions of lives someday? This is the best day ever!

Danny tells them he's gonna fight, and he's gonna win, and they're going to help him get in touch with Batman on Earth when he's done. As payment.

He wants to tell Earth Batman that Ghost Batman loves him and never blamed him etc etc. Things Jason didn't exactly tell Danny to tell Bruce, but that he's mentioned to the team as wishing he could reach out and tell Batman before. (Why doesn't Jason go to Earth? Maybe he doesn't know which one, maybe the idea of being on the same planet as Joker sends him into a destructive rage, maybe he thinks telling Bruce he's still out there would do more harm than good... idk)

4 adult heroes watch in awe as Danny does a magic girl transformation into Inverted Danny and starts pulling more and more powers out of absolutely nowhere. Danny obliterates his competition and everyone is scared to hell of him. He gives an unwanted speech about what an honour it was to represent his solar system (he's thinking of his new bestie Martian Manhunter's culture's safety too).

It's only on the way home in the spaceship owned by the tournament mangers that it occurs to any of the Normal Justice League members to ask how this kid they've never even heard of is a member of their team and what he wants to discuss with Batman.
