when they take a joke too far | ot13
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
❥ seungcheol
as much as i love cheol, i don’t think he’d immediately notice that he took the joke too far, mainly because of the fact that when he’s in the moment, surrounded by other people, you know - trying to be funny (maybe attempting on impressing others with his amazing joking skills), he’d be a bit too focused on the people surrounding him. it doesn’t change the fact that the second he notices you acting a tad bit off, he’s all over you asking you questions - if you are all right, if you want to leave, if you need food or water, his jacket etc etc. when he’d find out you were upset by his joke, oh - he’d be so so disappointed and angry with himself, truly. cheol would apologise, of course, and ask you if you needed space (it would break his heart if you said yes tbh, but he'd understand that). he just wouldn’t want to disappoint and hurt you even more.
❥ jeonghan
jeonghan knows he can be quite petty and sarcastic at times, and his jokes can be taken ambiguously sometimes, especially when people don’t really know him and his humour. then again, he’d never tell a mean joke on purpose, he’s not mean like that, but sometimes his jokes do not come out as he means them to. it could take him some time to notice you being upset over his joke because after all you’re quite used to his sense of humour, so he’d never think that you could get upset over it. in his mind his joke is just a silly comment, he obviously doesn’t mean for it to upset you, god forbid. when he finds out you’re bothered by it though, he’d apologise in any way he could - he’d be extra attentive, clingy, and careful with you, but giving you space at the same time.
❥ joshua
immediately feels so bad when he sees your expression fall after his bad joke. does not wait to apologise later or reflect on what he had just said - your visible sadness is enough for joshua to cradle your face in his hands and apologise, as sincerely as he can. even if you’re with friends or other acquaintances, he doesn’t care if people are staring or murmuring to each other, all he cares about is apologising. even if you’d forgive him, joshua would still be a bit more wary around you, making sure to give you space but at the same time still care for you and take care of you, because despite your words - he knew you were still a bit upset.
❥ jun
wouldn’t be sure whether to pack up his things and move out of your apartment, bury himself under the sheets, or to bawl his eyes out. the worst part is when he doesn’t even realise that he upset you with his joke, because what do you mean that he made you sad and he proceeded to go about his day like nothing happened? HE DIDN’T KNOW, PLEASE FORGIVE HIM. it’s never, ever jun’s intention to make you upset (duh), and it makes everything so much worse - he’s the one who’s supposed to make you laugh, not sad. when he realises that he took the joke too far he’s not sure how to approach you, because if he could he’d apologise immediately, but then again - what if you hate him now?
❥ hoshi
this man is the epitome of “saying before thinking”, and while he’d never tell a joke to offend someone on purpose, shit happens and not all of his jokes come off as jokes. he also gets easily distracted so it could take some time for him to notice you being upset, but at the same time he’s such a simp for you, so he’d either realise you were bothered by his comment an hour later or the second the joke left his mouth. would be the type to fall to his knees, hug your waist, bury his face in your stomach, and proceed with an at least hour apology because he feels that bad. his dramatic behaviour (and the even more dramatic apology speech) would make you laugh so hard, you’d forget about the joke in seconds. still, hoshi would be extra caring with you because no excuse could justify his joke that was lame and unfunny in the first place.
❥ wonwoo
to be honest, i don’t see a world where wonwoo would take a joke too far, he’d notice you being uncomfortable before you’d even know you were upset by the joke yourself. BUT, if it (somehow) happened, his apology would come straight away. there is no way he’d be able to proceed with his day without apologising at least fifty times - he’s so in tune with your emotions, it’d be like he could feel you hurting because of the joke himself. wonwoo would feel very ashamed of even thinking, let alone telling such a joke, he’d feel very disappointed in himself, and he’d beat himself up for that for days.
❥ woozi
would apologise immediately - jihoon doesn’t like bullshitting around stuff, there is no way he’d wait with apologising, not only because he doesn’t like getting into conflicts, but because you deserve that apology. it’s never his intention to upset you, and he wouldn’t be able to proceed with his day without saying something. like, what kind of boyfriend would he be if he didn’t? after incidents like those (not that they happen often), he’s a bit more cautious around you, making sure to not overstep any boundaries, and letting you have some space.
❥ dk
not happening, sorry - there is no way seokmin would take a joke too far to the point of upsetting someone, especially you. no. freaking. way. he’d rather set his body of fire than make an upsetting joke.
❥ mingyu
there’s also a slim chance of mingyu taking a joke too far, he’s too good of a person to upset anyone with his jokes. if it happened, he’d immediately apologise, probably in one of the most dramatic ways ever - throwing himself on his knees, yapping about how sorry he is, and how he didn’t know how such a joke could even come to his mind, while he’s eyes would be screaming “FORGIVE ME PLEASE”. he would be so disappointed and angry at himself for saying the joke, like it would take him days to get over it, even if you said you forgave him. there’s just something about taking a joke too far and making your significant upset because of it that breaks mingyu’s heart.
❥ minghao
he can be very blunt and petty, his humour is not for everyone, but that still doesn’t mean he’d upset anyone on purpose (unless that person is rude, then they get the full on xu minghao treatment). when he notices he took his joke too far regarding you, he’s kind of clueless on what to do next - it’s not like he can ignore the fact that he said what he said, and he feels so ashamed for making you upset, in fact - too ashamed to apologise immediately. all of his confidence and bluntness suddenly leaves him, because how is he supposed to keep his head high when he just made his significant other upset with a joke, he decided to think of and then say.
❥ seungkwan
our savage boo can be a tad too savage at times, and sometimes his remarks can be a bit upsetting. good thing is that he quickly realises when he oversteps the boundary of what is funny and what is not, so it wouldn’t take him much time to understand that you got genuinely upset over his joke. would take your hands in his, and with a lowered head (he’d be too embarrassed and ashamed of upsetting you to look at you), and try to apologise as sincerely as he could. seungkwan would make sure to give you some space, though it would break his heart - but he knew that that was what he had to do for you to forgive him completely.
❥ vernon
vernon isn’t known for coming up with loud and bold jokes, so he immediately catches himself after telling the joke that clearly wasn’t a good one, especially because it was directed towards you. his first instinct is to watch you to see your reaction, he wouldn’t want to say anything right away, afraid that it would make the situation only worse. he’s very cautious when approaching you, he’d understand if you’d need some space, but at the same time he doesn’t want to wait with his apology, because he feels really, really bad. he's also really good at apologising - maybe taking the full accountability for a bad joke is the bare minimum, but then again finding the bare minimum is very hard lately.
❥ chan
chan is usually quite good at controlling what he’s saying, he’s very cautious of the emotions of the people around him, and how his words might affect them. sometimes shit happens though, and not all of his jokes come out as he’d wish them to. chan’s a simp and he’s a loser for you, so he’d catch on to the fact that he took his joke too far quite quickly, and wouldn’t know how to act. he just made you sad, no - he just offended you. his joke, his words made you upset, and that’s a complete failure of his boyfriend duties, because his jokes are supposed to make you laugh, not upset. wouldn’t know how to approach you, would try to apologise through acts of service.

Not to discourse, but...I do not understand at all why people think Jensen Ross Ackles is gonna answer questions about things that haven't happened yet in an ongoing story in any kind of way that tells you anything concrete about what is going to happen, or what his character is going to feel or do, when his character has not had a chance to feel or do them yet? Do people really want him to start spinning fucking yarns up there?
Also, I cannot understand why anyone wants him to?! Like, thank you Jensen for NOT TELLING US. I don't want to go into it having been told what to feel and think about it! I want to see it, be surprised and experience emotions that aren't just the smug satisfaction of watching what I already know will happen play out. Like, when Supernatural returns, y'all know they are not going to just immediately throw the whole cow to us piranhas, right?
And while I'm here, on my horse, I would also like to say that I can't help but feel that this whole discussion that I have seen elsewhere in my feed here, is predicated on the idea that Jensen has not known ALL ALONG what character he was acting or what Dean feels and thinks, and that he is not good at his job. Does it ever occur to people that he DOES KNOW, because he is, in fact, fucking great at his job?
One of the best things about that guy is the way he does not say anything coercive EVER about this story or his character. He is letting his work as an actor speak for him, AS HE SHOULD. Do you feel like there is a deep sadness in Dean? A loneliness and an unspoken inner life? A desire for something more? Do you feel like he has made it clear in a million tiny ways that Dean cannot carry on without Cas, but that he fucking tried because Cas died to save him, and he had to make it mean something? Did you not see how he hugged that fucking dog that one time?? Do you not watch Dean, and see these things? These things are the actual content of the actual narrative. The narrative is the place where Dean's feelings and thoughts and actions are stored. Jensen speculating about it on a con stage is not a thing I even sort of want!
If you are disappointed that Jensen did not say: oh yeah, they will RESOLVE IT (nudge nudge wink wink har har har) my question is: why don't you trust your own eyes? Why do you think he is not in control of what he is putting across as an actor? Why do you need him to tell you, in kindergarten terms, what happened? Why don't you want to just watch it and be surprised by joy? The truth is, he has been very consistent in his responses to these kinds of questions, AND he made a whole season of television (TW) with his production company that is consistent with everything he has said. What can he possibly do to satisfy you?
I can only say that personally? I AM SATISFIED. Dean is Dean, and I love him. Jensen made him, and I love that guy's work. Please make more of him, because I cannot wait to love Dean some more. I am here because it's fun, and I am having a good time. Y'all should try it!

I always had you
buck & maddie rating: G words: 1k summary: Buck always tried to show his mother love on Mother's Day - however, it was rarely appreciated.
[also on Ao3]
___
The first Mother’s Day Buck remembers, however vaguely, was when he was in first grade. Their teacher had them make cards for their moms, and little Evan was so excited to have something to give his mom. He doesn’t remember what his card looked like, but he remembers feeling so proud and excited about it, and showing it to Maddie when she picked him up from school, so they could take the bus together. He remembers Maddie smiling and complimenting him, and he was so excited. And he remembers giving the card to his mother… he remembers the haunted look in her eyes, tears welling up, the forced smile – he thinks she thanked him, but the memory is blurry. He tried to hug her, but she just got up and walked away. Evan was disappointed, maybe even sad, seeing his mom be sad, wondering what he did that was so upsetting. He always seemed to upset his parents.
He remembers going to Maddie’s room, crying in her arms as she tried to comfort him – he doesn’t know what she said, it was so long ago, but he does remember the comfort she’s always brought him.
Now, years later, he’s pretty sure his mom must’ve thrown the card away, knowing that his parents didn’t bother to keep anything from his childhood anyway. He’s just a reminder of a failure and loss.
If there’s one thing to be said about Evan Buckley is that he does not give up. So, even as a kid, he tried so hard to earn his parents’ love, to get their attention – usually by being reckless and hurting himself, he learned pretty early on that it was a foolproof way to get any sort of reaction. That’s why his mom’s reaction, or lack thereof, to that first card didn’t deter him. He was just a kid, he didn’t really get it then – now, reflecting back on it, he sees everything he didn’t then, or maybe tried not to.
So every year for Mother’s Day he brought a card from school. Then, when they stopped making them at school, he kept making them at home. When he was old enough and had some of his own money, he’d buy gifts. Something small, a chocolate, a flower, sometimes he’d get Maddie to pitch in so they could get something together. She always seemed apprehensive but indulged Buck anyway. Now Buck knows she was just trying to protect him, spare him the hurt – because each time their mom barely reacted to a gift, Buck’s heart was breaking a little. And the older he got, the less she tried to pretend to like it, and she never tried very hard in the first place.
He never got any sort of appreciation or warmth, or… or love. It’s all he ever wanted from his mother, from both his parents, but they were too consumed by grief, as he knows now, too cold, haunted, not even willing to try for their remaining children, for years and years.
Buck remembers the last time he got his mom a gift and decided he’s never doing that again. It was right before Maddie moved to Boston, he could’ve been around twelve. He made another card, just because he liked doing it, liked putting in the effort – and was met with his mother asking if he’s not too old for doodling. That’s what she called it. He was twelve. He was a twelve year old boy who only wanted love from his mom, some form of affection, a reassurance that he wasn’t a nuisance they just tolerated, like he felt so often. He never got it.
So, with angry tears in his eyes, he stormed out and went to Maddie. He gave her the card, just a simple, childish drawing of flowers and a ‘Happy Mother’s Day’, and she hugged him tight and said she loved it. He learned years later that she still has it now, kept with all the postcards he sent her. Maddie’s always been more of a parent to him anyway – and it’s such a bittersweet thought, because while he appreciates her so much, she shouldn’t’ve had to be. They both needed their parents, and instead were basically left alone. At least they had each other. He always had Maddie.
He didn’t wish Margaret a happy Mother’s Day again for years after that, and no one seemed to care, no one ever mentioned it. Sometimes it felt like she just didn’t want a reminder that she was his mother. It hurt, of course it did, and that, among many other things, left a permanent scar on Evan. He’s been healing, getting better, trying to fix whatever relationship with his parents he might still have, but that is always there, in the back of his mind, in his heart.
When Maddie became a mother – and after she came back, having gotten the help she needed – Buck got her a gift again, just a mug that says ‘best mom in the world’ (a reminder, that despite her struggling and doubting herself, she already raised one kid, and will do an even better job with her own) and a handmade card. He felt silly handing it to her, like a little kid again, but he had been doing arts and crafts with Christopher anyway so he decided to make something for his sister’s first Mother’s Day as a mom. So maybe it was silly and weird, and why would a grown man draw a card for his sister? But Maddie smiled widely and hugged him, and chuckled fondly when he promised he’ll teach his niece to make those, too. He can’t wait to watch her grow up, and to watch his sister be the best mom ever. And on every Mother’s Day from now on, he’ll make sure to celebrate her, the person who actually raised him, and helped mold him into who he is today with her endless kindness and patience and love.
His mother gets a text now, since they’re trying to fix things, and Buck never quits. But Maddie gets taken out to lunch, and gets gifts, and is celebrated by all the people she loves. Because she deserves it, and so much more.

Tumblr media
The waves kept licking your toes, your sundress pooling around your thighs. The Monaco harbour was finally calm, the sea tame and the sun reflecting golden speckles on the horizon. The streets had been busy, busier than usual, but you found yourself in one of the rare corners of the principality where you’d be left alone, in a quiet bubble, where no one would bother you.
The week of the Monaco Grand Prix was always special. It was always a mix of a frenzy, crazy times that you never quite were able to deal with, but also a mix of warm sunsets, comfortable bed sheets and piano sessions to wake up to in the mornings. It was also the week of pains au chocolat in bed, of fresh and cold fruit juice in tall glasses, of wandering fingertips on your thighs and soft kisses in your lover’s neck.
The Monaco Grand Prix was always your anniversary weekend, too. Three years ago, you left your friends on a boat to sneak into a Ferrari event. Three years ago, you met Charles, who took you for a tour of the principality in his beloved Ferrari, then for a swim on his Riva boat. Three years ago, you sat on this same pier, listening to the cars drive in the background while Charles grieved the possibilities of a home win after a treacherous pole position secured by a crash into a barrier. Three years ago, you met the man you’d share your life with, dressed all in red and sunshine, a warm man who turned your world upside down with soft words whispered in your ears, with arms wrapped around your stomach and with tender kisses on your cheeks.
Three years ago, you dried tears of sadness for a man you barely knew.
Today, you dried tears of pride and happiness for the love of your life.
Charles was laying on the pier, his race suit still wet and clinging on his thighs. His hair was finally dry, curling in the most adorable little curls at the end, that you kept playing with absentmindedly, tangling your fingers in sea salt waves of brown strands, drowning yourself in the green eyes and dimples you loved so much.
Charles was finally relaxed of that remaining constant tension in his shoulder, he had finally achieved the ultimate dream of his and his father’s. He had won that Monaco Grand Prix that meant so much to him, after years of sadness, disappointment and doubts. You had gone through four races here, now, not one leaving you relieved about the outcomes. But this weekend, Charles had mastered everything he needed to have done, everything had finally clicked into place and with the complete support of his team, something you had pleasantly welcomed in your lives a few years ago, he had finally turned the dream into reality.
A few hours ago, he had jumped into the harbour with his team principal, yells of happiness and pride mixing with the sea salt water and the tears. You had waited your turn, letting him enjoy that win on his side, first with his team, then with his family. You’d lived a few wins with the Leclerc family already, but none that left everyone crying so much. You knew what it meant for them all, so you took a step back and left them to celebrate this one between themselves. Charles hadn’t said much after the podium and all the press duties. He had been relieved from the race debrief, there would be time to do that later, so you had patiently waited for your man to be free and ready to celebrate this one out with you.
So many of his friends were waiting for him at a club. So many of his peers were waiting to party and congratulate him. So many people in Monaco waiting for the prince of the day, the one who’d made everyone cry.
And still, Charles was laying on the pier, his head rested on your thighs, his breathing calm and relaxed, his eyes closed and his nose taking the faintest pink hues, a result of the sunkiss effect that drew you in the first time you’d seen him.
“Everybody is waiting for you, Charlie,” you whispered. “Let them wait. I’m good here,” he whispered back. “I don’t need to go to the club. I just need to lie here. I just need you.”
You smile at the horizon, knowing perfectly well that he would get jitters in a few hours, that he’d drag you to a club and that you’d end up driving his car because he’d be too hammered to drive himself. But for now, for an hour or two, you’d selfishly enjoy this one with your man.
His gold trophy was next to you, the medal hung on the little hairpin representation of the track. His cap, ruined by the water, completed the triptych of a magical afternoon, spent in the streets you fell in love with, just as you fell in love with the man lying at your side.
“Congratulations, my love,” you softly exhaled. “You deserved that one so much.” “Thank you,” he smiled a little. “I love you.” “I love you too,” you grinned.
The streets were finally calmer, after they’d exulted in celebrations. The harbour was finally quiet. The sun was starting to dip behind the horizon line. Your sundress was finally dry after you’d taken Charles’ hand and jumped in the water, taking your time to float in the sea and to kiss the winner under the heat of a May sun. Your hair was curling just like your boyfriend’s. You’d go back to your place, get rid of your clothes, slide in the shower together and God knows what you’d do in there. You’d party tonight, put him to bed when he’d irrevocably end up drunk and you’d make sweet love in your bed tomorrow morning, when the quiet and calm would be back to your lives.
Your Sunkissed boy had made it. You couldn’t be more in love with him.

Little TSAMS Rant
”Sun’s the light of my life, and I couldn’t live without him.”
Hi. If just like to go on a little rant about this because it’s been swimming in my head for a while.
So, Moon says this. A lot. Over and over. Every single time about Sun. But here’s the thing: He’s never ACTED on it.
like, when old him said in his final message that he loved him, like okay?? You gonna expand on that?? He gaslighted, girlbossed and gatekeeped him, forced him to do things he didn’t want to, etc etc.
And he was become a little jerky to Sun ever since Solar started living with them. Calling him dumb, being rude, shoving him away, and so on.
And especially after yesterday’s episode of him yelling about how he doesn’t care what they do, and doesn’t take back the things he said about them.
I feel like he’s replaced Sun with Solar. Think back to when Lunar died. Was he sad? Maybe a bit disappointed, but he got over it. What about KC? Was kinda sad for an episode, but didn’t care. And poor baby Earth? Sure, he looked for her, but he would have gotten over it if she didn’t come back.
And the fact of how far he is going to bring Solar back, when his family needs him? I know he cares, but he’s not ACTING on it. And before you yell at me, I have my reasonings. He’s acted before, protecting them, helping them, hanging out with them… but now? It just seems like a promise with his fingers crossed.
And honestly, I don’t know if he would even care if Sun just died at this point, or anyone really, with how caught up with Solar he is. So I just don’t think he means it when he says Sun is “The Light of His Life.” I think he just replaced him with Solar.
Thanks for reading my TED talk.

I spoke with Colin Ross again.
The original post, for those who missed it.
This is going to be really disjointed and rough. I've been put in a really weird position and I want to just... talk about it. This is okay to reblog, I'm sure there's pro/endos that have been waiting for this. Unfortunately, it's going to be attached to a vent.
Sadly, talking to him brought up a lot of bad feelings. I'm still so sad to see so many people turn on me. I'm disappointed that there was so much pushback. I'm disgusted by people's hypocrisy.
People wanted to know why I wasn't posting my side of the emails to Colin Ross, they tried to say he didn't believe those things anymore.
So I emailed him again, recapping our previous conversations, and asking him if he still believed in non traumagenic plurality.
And he responded that he does.
I thought I could post it, and that would be the end of it. Proving we had spoken before, confirming the topics discussed. But in my email to him, I shared what I've been doing since I last spoke with him, what prompted me to reach out to him again. The same thing that stopped me from posting my side of the emails originally. I wasn't entirely honest with him, either. I don't think I would have gotten a response if I had talked about tumblr.
And I'm simultaneously so excited and so scared.
This is a man that, in a very vague sense, formed a mentor/professional relationship with me. Our interaction overall was brief, but it was exciting to discuss his work with him, ask him questions that had been bothering me-- I told him about myself, my educational and work background. I used my real email and name. My real school. He's Canadian, we talked about it. I shared real details of my life, and while it wasn't necessarily in confidence, I don't think he would appreciate knowing that I've shared his personal thoughts and emails on tumblr, of all places. I'm not lying or hiding anything in my side of the conversation.
I'm scared.
I'm terrified to post anything that could be linked to me. Even posting this, I'm like, "can people like... reverse edit my picture and get my email?" I genuinely don't know.
I worry about posting the full screenshots with his email, knowing people won't believe me if I don't, but not wanting to have these ridiculously immature people in his inbox. I have encouraged people since day one to find his email themselves and reach out. I figure that the only people who would put in that work are the people who genuinely want to learn.
But then I realized that there are people that could ruin the relationship I made with him.
People that could make it so that I can never contact him in this way again.
People could use this to find me, if they get Colin Ross talking. (The rational part of my brain says he's smart enough not to give someone else my name, but goddamn, some of you people are actually dangerous)
There are people that want to do that to me. People that hate that I even brought a professional into this conversation. And I get it. I sat on the original conversation for almost three years, remember?
It's really scary to admit you're wrong, that you've been close-minded and hardheaded. It's scary to confront your bias and actions.
But having him respond to me... I feel so lucky? Not that Colin Ross is a saint, but how often do you get to meet someone like him? How often do you have a chance to take advantage of a professional contact that seems willing and happy to have these kinds of conversations with you? Three years later and he remembered me. He took the time to answer me, again.
I don't want to fuck that up.
So I thought about reaching out to certain people, showing them the entire set of emails without any blockout and having them vouch for the authenticity.
Then I realized that I wouldn't trust any of you anti endogenic systems with any of my information after how you've all behaved.
And I realized that none of you are going to change your minds, no matter what I show you, and I'd rather to maintain my professional relationships than put any more effort into any of you.
And I know if I wait too long to post this, people will call it fake, so I either need to go ahead and make this post or just kind of let it disappear into obscurity.
It's so important, though.
Isn't it?
I can't tell anymore.

My thoughts on Imperial Commando and Republic Commando as a whole
RC
So, I started and finished Imperial Commando on an eight hour plane ride last night. This means I am done with the series overall and this will be me going over it and the characters. But let’s discuss my thoughts on this book first
Needless to say, I was disappointed. It’s not that it was bad or anything, it just wasn’t as good as Order 66 in my opinion, and, of course, even though it’s the last book of the series, the series was left incomplete, leaving me a bit disappointed in the end.
The author obviously planned on writing more Republic Commando books after this one, with how the Jusik and Arla plot line was set up, how the age reversing was going, and how Darman planned to kill the Jedi, but obviously, the sequel was never made, and thus, the overall story feels incomplete. But, enough about that. Let’s talk about RC as a whole.
Oh, and I’ll be completely omitting Karen Traviss from this conversation. She as a person has nothing to do with the plot or characters, which are the things I will be judging today. If you have a problem with me talking about the actual book and not ranting about the author who wrote it, then too bad.
Let’s start off at the beginning. With Omega. Omega Squad was definitely a pleasant surprise for me. I enjoyed each of their characters and liked how most of them found peace in the end. That being said, I do have some notes.
The biggest is Atin. I feel like after Triple Zero he kind of fell into the background besides when he married Laseema in Order 66. (And his relationship with her fell into the background as well) And he felt practically invisible in Imperial Commando. And I get why Niner and Dar were more in focus for that story, but it would’ve been nice to see some Atin. Also, he’s he only OG Omega member who’s POV we never got to see.
Next up, Niner. Niner got two POV’s in the series, in both the first and last books. And those books were where I enjoyed him the best. Niner was a solid leader for the squad, and was loyal to them through and through, especially in his friendship with Darman. He didn’t fade as much as Atin, but I still wish he had been a little more prevalent throughout the series.
Then we have Fi. Fi is my favorite from the squad still, and I love seeing him whenever he appears. His one liners are great, and to be honest, he’s kind of the opposite of Niner here. He was very prevalent for books 2-4, but fell into the background in the first and last book. He still appeared more than Atin in book 5, but I barely recall even seeing Parja. (Which was sad cuz I loved the two of them together)
The last of the OG Omega, Darman. Dar is definitely a strong character, and he has a very heavy theme of being used, manipulated, and lied to throughout the books. By the Kaminoans, the Jedi, and even Kal, Etain, and Niner at times! His mental resolve to protect Kad at all costs is what is barely keeping him together after Etain died, and while he does resolve to hunt Jedi at the end of the book, it’s a nice full circle moment to see that while Darman thought his one true purpose at the beginning of the series was to be a soldier, he now sees he was destined for a greater one all along. Being a father.
Next let’s move on to Ordo, Corr, the Jedi, and Mandos. We got a LOT to cover here.
Ordo- Ordo is definitely one of my favorites. Him and Besany are cute and great and I love both of them. I like all the moments he gets throughout the series. However, I do think he was focused on a little too heavily. While I do wish some of the other Nulls like Jaing, Prudii, or Kom’rk had been given some time to shine, I still loved Ordo and I think he’s great. (That being said, I will be omitting the rest of the Nulls because I really only know enough to talk about Mereel and A’den for a couple sentences)
Corr- A really sarcastic, witty, and funny guy that did not deserve what he got. Losing both of his hands was tragic, but, with lost flesh, he gained a new family in Clan Skirata. He was a nice addition to Omega after Fi had to leave, and I liked him a lot. (He and Jilka were pretty cute in book 5)
Etain- So… Etain. I like her, I really do. But sometimes, there are some choices that I cannot get behind. (Like how she purposefully went behind Dar’s back to get pregnant in Triple Zero) But even still, she is a good person, and she just wanted to be a good mother to Kad and live a happy life with Darman, and she didn’t deserve to meet the end she got.
Bardan- An all around solid character. I liked his development from bright eyed Padawan to rugged ex Jedi Mandalorian, and I think his sense of responsibility to Clan Skirata and also to Kad is very important. He made sure to put others before himself no matter the consequences, a quality with several others lack.
Walon- A hardened Mando bounty Hunter with good intentions at heart. (Probably). I mean, he did save Jilka, lend Kal credits, and he also did try to find Sev. He cares. Even if it is in his own twisted way sometimes. (Still, what he did to Atin was brutal)
Besany- Love her. Since the beginning, she was all about standing up for the clones and their rights. She cared about them as people and not as property, and she saw their differences as well, and what made them unique, and she really does love Ordo, and I think the two of them are very sweet.
Kal- Oh boy. Here we go. I know I’m gonna get hate for this. Here I go. Brace yourselves. If you need tissues to cry, grab them.
I like Kal Skirata.
Okay. I’ll continue. I am not going to say I agree with him on everything, and I’m not going to pretend he is a saint or anything. But I like his character. He cares about his family, and he does make mistakes. Everybody does. The problem is everybody has gotten so used to pointing out Kal’s every mistake that they refuse to acknowledge anything he did right. And guess what? Kal makes mistakes. He’s flawed. He’s not perfect. And that’s the point. Characters are flawed. People are flawed. They aren’t perfect. And neither is Kal. And HE ADMITS THAT IN BOOK 5. In fact, NY ADMITS IT TOO! She acknowledges that Kal taking over the Nulls and not seeing the similarities to the Jedi taking children is arrogant! She acknowledges that! And Kal acknowledges that and his flaws later in the book! Kal is arrogant, yes, but he sees that! He knows it! So before you go around saying how Kal thinks he is some saint god or whatever. He doesn’t. And there is proof of that in the books.
So, uhh, yeah. Overall, I think the Republic Commando series was good. There were some things that definitely could have been improved upon, but I liked it. I liked the story, and I liked the characters, so yeah.
Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk.

CHAPTER TWELVE: Oh, Chaos!
Masterlist | Series Masterlist
Pairing: Matt Murdock x F!Reader
Summary: You have an eventful day at work rekindling with a new acquaintance and dealing with a peculiar trauma case, but the most prominent thing on your mind is dinner with Matt, and you could really use some advice from someone who knows a thing or two about dates to keep you from canceling.
Warnings for this chapter: slight angst, self-hatred/doubt, mentions of past abuse, mentions of injury
Word Count: 5.3k
A/n: I'm sorry this took so long. I took an unexpected hiatus, and I couldn't break out of the writer's block, so this took close to a month to finish. I read this a dozen times, and I fixed what I could. This is rather "boring" compared to what came before and what I've got planned, but there is plot in there that will become important again later down the line. Just so you know what you're getting yourself into in advance. 'Kay, thank you!

Tumblr media
Four missed calls, and twenty text messages. The chat is full of one-sided advances. ‘Claire’ is written on top, but her contact resembles an empty void in contrast.
I don’t know what I did to deserve this radio silence, but I thought you would like to know I asked Matt out again. I like him. We’re having dinner on Friday. Do with that as you will.
Hope you’re not dead in a ditch somewhere.
Call me when you can. Please.
I’m worried about you.
Love you.
It has been like this since Matt called you when you least expected it. Whether he was looking for support, professional advice, or just the sound of your voice, you’re not sure, but it warmed your heart to know he thought of you and no one else, and he picked up the phone to call you.
Before, you tried telling yourself that there isn’t much between you. You tried telling yourself that perhaps, it would never go anywhere and not to be disappointed because from the start, Matt has been too good to be true, but after sharing a glimpse of your past, you feel closer to him, and you don’t want to let him go. He is the first good thing that has come to you in years.
Claire’s radio silence hurts. You don’t want to admit it, but sending text after text to your best friend and receiving not even a ‘read’ sign both concerns and upsets you. Ever since she took you under her wing when you came to New York, you’ve—sometimes involuntarily—shared your anger with her, your sadness, your pain, and those rare moments of happiness.
She was the one who told you to go for it, so her behavior remains suspicious. You want to ask her; you want to confront her about everything and get the truth out of her, but unless she answers your contact attempts or shows up to work, there is not much you can do. You tried from the moment you got home to the second leading up to your next shift at the hospital. So far, nothing. A few days ago, you would have called the police and said that this was nothing like Claire, but now, you’re not so sure anymore what to believe, and it is pissing you off when you should be excited.
Things are looking up. You don’t want to look down and ruin this for yourself, knowing there is a chance your thoughts will most likely turn against you again at some point. You have to enjoy it while it lasts.
Glancing down at your phone, you walk down one of the hallways at Metro General. You shake your head. It’s been hours. Perhaps after you get off work, you will head to where Claire is staying. Just to check on her. The nagging feeling that shit is about to hit the fan won’t leave you, and it seems like the right thing to do, even if just to ask her what her problem is.
She’s always so quick to tell you what’s good for you. She gives you advice you never even asked for, but you end up appreciating it regardless. She knows what she’s doing, and she is a lot smarter than you are most of the time. You know her as well as you possibly can after two years; Claire is hiding something, and that is unlike her. If she gets herself in danger because of something she feels like she can’t talk to you about, or if she has an opinion afraid to share with you, you need to know because it is important to you. Your mind is disordered and distorted; you are well aware that sometimes, you don’t see things as clearly as you should. Claire’s rationality is a blessing and a curse. You’re dependent on it.
“Hey, Doc,” a familiar voice sounds from the nurse’s station.
You stop in your tracks, looking up from your phone to the man standing across from you. You haven’t seen that face in a while, even though he spends a lot of time here—almost as much as he does at work. You doubt he ever goes home to sleep.
Your face lights up, and you stuff your phone back into the pocket of your coat. “Ben!” you exclaim, your lips curving into a smile.
“Long time no see,” he says in an attempt to match your delighted reaction.
You hate to admit it, but Ben Urich looks worse for wear. Dark circles under his eyes match the deepened wrinkles of exhaustion, and his lips are cracked in more places than one. His shirt shows the slightest of coffee stains he tries to cover with his visitor badge. You doubt he has had the time to do his laundry in a long time. And there is that expression of agony he usually knows how to hide, but the walls he once built around himself are starting to crumble.
The sympathy you have for this man cannot be put into words—because your feelings are unpleasant most of the time, too, and unless you have been in an impossible situation, all you can have is empathy. You, however, are not a stranger to despair, and the people around you all seem to be carrying too much of it, too.
You clear your throat, putting the file in your hand aside to shake his. “How have you been?” you dare to ask.
He shrugs. “Could be better, but… I’m alive. Healthy,” he says. It’s a modified standard answer you do not buy for even a second.
Your eyes soften, but you try to keep the mood light. God knows what he has been through since the last time you saw him on this very floor. “Yeah? That’s good. The Bulletin still giving you a hard time about the things you want to write?” You chuckle.
“Ah, you know how it is.” Ben leans against the counter. “Readers these days are apparently more interested in celebrity scandals and gentrification than true crime.”
The pen scratches against the chart you have to sign. “Well, just know that you will always have a loyal fan of your true crime section in me, and I would tell that to Eric’s face if you ever need me to.” You offer him a smile of pure honesty, and his eyes actually light up this time.
He chuckles. “Can I quote you on that?”
“That depends. Am I getting paid?”
“I’m afraid the only form of payment I have is cheap office coffee.”
“You’re in luck then,” you say, “I am a sucker for cheap office coffee because it’s still better than cheap hospital coffee.”
His face contorts. “Yeah, I’m not going to argue with you on that,” he says.
Again, you chuckle. The question rests on the tip of your tongue, but only when the silence stretches out painfully long enough to prompt a drop of sweat to run down his temple, you ask, “How’s your wife?” No pain or pity in your voice—you know he doesn’t need it.
Ben swallows in response, scratching his fingers through his hair. “Uh, hanging in there. They told me she’s had a good day today. Lucid,” he tells you.
“That sounds like progress. You know, with her condition, every good day is a success.”
“Yeah, yeah, I, uh… I agree. But… she’s not the only reason I’m here. Shelly called me here today to, uh, discuss my wife’s future at this hospital…”
The muscles in your shoulders tense and stiffen. You slowly lift your head. “Oh,” is all you can muster up to say. You know where this is going.
“Yeah,” he says. “I tried convincing her to keep her here a little while longer. But apparently, you guys can’t accommodate her much longer, and she wants me to look into hospice or some other form of long-term care.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
But what else are you supposed to say? You clear your throat. “I, uh… Shelly’s under a lot of pressure, you know? We’re having funding issues in every department, and she is just trying to make due, but… I know your wife’s been here for a very long time, and she’s dependent on the care. Alzheimer’s can be incredibly cruel, and I’m sure hospice is a lot more expensive than what your insurance covers if she stays here, so it isn’t fair. I’m sorry.”
“Thank you,” says Ben.
“Can I help in any way?” you ask.
“Well, unless you can win the lottery or find a cure for Alzheimer’s in the next seven days, I’m afraid not.”
“Believe me, people are trying, but—”
“I know,” he cuts you off. “I still appreciate it. You’re one of the few doctors here who still care about the people.”
You shake your head, saying, “It’s not that easy. The system is rigged against us. We’re all aware of it, but some of us just… fall off the wagon because they think the only way through is to become what we hate the most. Selfish, egotistical money-makers always chasing recognition rather than caring about the patients we’re supposed to serve,” you explain. “These new fancy medical centers only those with millions in their bank accounts can afford are where all the funding goes, and those who cater to the underprivileged and uninsured—like us—have to suffer the consequences because we don’t chase after money. I would know; I did my residency at one of those hospitals, and I hated how some of these people treated their patients, so I always tried to use the resources we’ve got to help people, even those who couldn’t afford it. Of course, not all of my fellow residents stayed on that path with me. The more high-risk surgeries, the better the payout, even when unnecessary. Upcoding and needless tests were the standards we were held to. I’ve always hated that. Public hospitals are at the bottom of the food chain, and the patients end up pulling the short straw, but most doctors don’t start with the mindset that it’s just something we have to accept. That lethargy comes with time. And the system.”
“Kind of reminds me of that kook in the black mask,” Ben muses. “With his disbelief in the system and his…his twisted sense of justice.”
You scoff. “Well…”
Your mind flashes back to the other night in that alleyway. The way he interfered when he heard you in trouble. The cockiness he seemed to exceed, but it quickly vanished when he realized you may have risked your life to save someone else’s, but you were not going to leave another person injured. You don’t have a lot of trust in the justice system, but that man seemed… different; like the only way he could believe in justice is when he does something against the persistent injustice that so many turn a blind eye to.
But it’s not just Hell’s Kitchen, which the Man In Black seems to gracefully ignore. He does what he needs to where he thinks he has to, but it is not just the system in his beloved city that is wired against the people it is supposed to protect and serve. It’s not just the justice system or society overall, it’s the government, too. And you truly believe he knows that, too, he simply does not have the manpower to fight all battles at once. No one has.
Ben eyes you curiously, up and down. “What, you don’t agree?” he asks.
You sigh. “I don’t think he has a twisted sense of justice, no.”
“Why? You met him?”
Saying yes would make you an accessory to his crimes. “I’ve heard the same things you have, Ben, and I think he really is trying to change something,” you answer instead.
You find a sudden determination in his eyes as he leans closer. “You treat his victims, right? You’ve seen what he can do with his bare hands. Taking out entire syndicates that have been bothering Hell’s Kitchen for decades, going up against bad seeds and corporations, and he never backs down,” he says.
“If you’re trying to say it’s a bad thing…” You trail off.
“I think it’s a grey area. A fine line.”
“Well, as fine as that line may be, I don’t feel as much empathy for the people he puts in here because I’ve seen what they can do just a few blocks from here,” you state and close the chart in front of you on the counter. “I had to watch lives and families get destroyed. The ones responsible for serving justice either didn’t have the evidence, or they were too late, or the only witnesses died on my table, or—and that happens quite frequently, too—they just didn’t care,” you say. “The times I watched them make arrests, the legal system ended up failing the victims anyway. Now, I’m not saying I condone violence, but this city needs help. Depending on the area, police sometimes don’t even bother to check, and that pisses me off because a lot of the time, tragedies could have been prevented if first responders just got there on time. Or if the perpetrators involved in a crime suffered the consequences for their actions instead of bailing out the same day on a domestic violence charge. I know that the police can't be everywhere at once, but… A lot of people feel safer with this guy out there because they know he tries.”
Ben desperately scribbles along on a small notepad you’re not sure where he got it from. He’s not even wearing a coat.
“It’s like David and Goliath,” you tell him, too animated to pay closer attention to your surroundings. “It’s a contest wherein a smaller, weaker opponent faces a much bigger and stronger adversary. I just… I don’t know. In this city, there are a lot of metaphorically weak individuals who don’t have the means to fight back against the big guy. Like I said, a system rigged against its people does not help the people live a safe and happy life in a city that makes them feel like all their advances are futile.”
“That’s excellent,” he murmurs.
You glimpse down at his hand, frowning. “It’s just my opinion.”
“There’s nothing ‘just’ about it. I know a lot of people feel the way you do, and yes, that’s fucked up. But that’s why we need people like you to speak up. People with more influence than the little guy. People who serve the people.”
“Ben,” you try to get a word in.
“Hear me out,” he says. “If I can get Eric to sign off on it, I want to write a think piece for the public. About the man in the mask. About Hell’s Kitchen and New York, and the things no one likes to talk about. And I’d like to get you on the record.”
“With all due respect—and I do love the concept—I don’t think interviewing me would be such a good idea.”
“Why not?”
Your pulse has inevitably gotten higher. Because if my ex finds out where I am, he’ll kill me. The thought screams like a banshee, echoing like the trajectory of a bouncing basketball. It takes you a moment to realize that the thudding is your heart. Dull, aching, and infused with a panic as old as time.
You squeeze the pen in your fist, feeling the plastic crack under the weight. “I can’t have my name or face on the record,” you confess. “It’s a, uh… protection thing.”
The most human thing to ask would be, ‘Protection from what?’ You don’t have to read minds to know that those are the words forming on Ben’s lips the second you offer him an explanation that is not quite the truth. It couldn’t be further from it, but your truth is a tank and tanks can take down everything in their path without suffering as much as a scratch.
You take the stage before he can ask—before you can ride yourself further into this pile of dirt and lies. “I treat people for a living, and my opinions out there… I need to protect myself if someone ever wants to file a lawsuit against me for prejudicial behavior because they could easily use an interview I gave as evidence,” you say. “I could lose my license.” Your license, and your life.
He releases a strangled breath. “Yeah, no. Of course,” Ben says. “I knew that. But I could always refer to my source as anonymous. Most of the time, people don’t care about who said what anyway. They just want something to talk about.”
You want to scream. The alarm is blaring loud enough for the nerves in your body to hear it. The rage is so hard to swallow. Not at him though. It isn’t Ben’s fault that even now, you have to live your life as if it was never yours to begin with.
“But,” he adds upon seeing the look on your face, like a deer in bright headlights, “unless a certain Man in Black decides to leave another stranded criminal on my doorstep, Eric will never sign off on it. I’m sorry,” the exasperation in his voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard. “I didn’t mean to jump this at you. I know you have more…important things to do than worry about an old journalist who knows damn well his best days are behind him.”
The shake of your head follows in an instant. His confidence lies drowned in the invisible puddle at your feet. “You don’t always have to go with the flow of time,” you tell him. “If you want to write something, you should. People’s tastes change, but there will always be someone out there who wants to read what you have to say.”
Ben smiles at you. “Does that mean you’ll think about my offer?” he asks.
You return the gesture. “When I’ve done my important things, maybe I will.”
And chances are, you will think about it. You will think about it, and then you will cry over a bottle of wine and wish you were never born or that, once again, he killed you when he had the chance. You will wish that you didn’t run, and you will curse John and your entire existence to hell and back because without him, you wouldn’t have to guard your heart like a maximum-security prison, and you wouldn’t have to hide who you are like a secret from Pandora’s box. In the end, though, you know you will have to decide if he doesn’t forget what he offered you—and knowing Ben Urich, when he is allowed to write about what he wants, he won’t forget the sources he tried to recruit along the way.
You look up suddenly when the sirens start blaring above your head.
Attention all staff, Code Red, Emergency Department. Code Red, Emergency Department. Trauma team to the Emergency Department immediately.
“That sounds bad,” Ben comments.
You turn back to him, but before you can open your mouth and excuse yourself from the conversation (and your internal self-hatred party), one of the nurses behind the counter picks up the phone with a knowing nod. A second passes and all color fades from her skin before her features contort. “I’m sorry, what?!” she damn-near screeches.
You frown back at her. “Hey, Evie,” — you snap your fingers — “What’s going on?”
She moves the speaker away from her lips. “Um,” she stammers. “Have you ever seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre?”
“Oh, my God.”
“Yeah.”
“It’s 11 am!” you say, your eyes darting between her and the wall as if that would change anything.
Ben cuts in, “That doesn’t mean much in a city that never sleeps,” he says. “People are always crazy ‘round here.”
You scoff. “Apparently! I’m so sorry, but I’ve gotta–”
“Yeah, no. I know.” He nods, his eyes softening in an instant. “Go!”
With a grateful nod, you leave your work on the counter and head into a sprint down the hall.
A life-saving surgery can take up to several hours. There really is no margin for error, so you tune out the noise of the world outside and focus on the chaos you have to control. You focus on what you know and what you have learned because if you don’t, the person you are cutting into with a scalpel could die at your very touch. For those few critical hours, you are nothing but a doctor, but the world doesn’t stop or disappear in real life when you cease to exist; when you come back after those few hours, the world is still falling apart, and you still have to go back home and face the reality you are forced to live in. But how can you think that when people are fighting for their lives every day before your eyes; when you can try as hard as you want to help them, but you fail more often than you do not? Mental scars often out-rule the physical scars of a trauma patient, and whenever you tell them it gets better, you feel like you are lying to them. Because it never gets better, it feels like.
People are dying and falling apart, and so are you, and it hurts that nothing ever seems to change, not even when you try to tell yourself that people are dependent on you and that your world can’t stop again because this is your job; you signed up for this. But you didn’t sign up for this kind of life. You fell in with the wrong person, craving a love like in the fairytales you used to read as a little girl. You missed the feeling of being loved because the people who were supposed to love you died and fell apart, and you were left fantasizing. It’s a downright mess in your head and everywhere around you, and you are continuously stumbling over the broken glass on your floor, falling into the shards and cutting yourself over and over again until you’re bleeding out but never fully dead.
You spend the next six hours in the operating room, forgetting about Matt and the implications of your dinner. The one you asked him out to. You forget about Ben and his offer, and you think finally, finally, you can breathe. Human anatomy isn’t quite as complicated as this. The one thing you have been worrying most about, the person who has occupied your every waking thought for days now, fades into the shadows for a little while, but then you’re threading the needle through the skin of the man whose life you have saved, and your second to breathe turns into a riot.
Ben’s words return to your conscience; the masked individual he seems most fascinated with moves to the forefront of your fragile mind. He is all over you again, and it sends a thrill down your spine that positively terrifies you; it terrifies you that it doesn’t terrify you. He shouldn’t matter, and you shouldn’t lose another thought to him, but Ben Urich knows how to cast out a net to catch even the most unlikely adversary.
You redial the last number on your phone. Standing in the emergency room that has grown quiet for the afternoon, you feel the weight of the world sinking back in. The clock keeps ticking closer to the end of your shift and inevitably, dinner. Forgetting is a blessing until you realize that thinking about it would have prepared you more, and now you barely have time.
You want to cancel. You should cancel. Claire has not been picking up, and you’re worried about her. But she’s an adult, isn’t she? She pushed you into doing this, and then she bailed. A good friend would at least give you a reason for her change of mind. She hasn’t said a word because she refuses to answer, and it’s starting to leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
“This is Claire. Leave a message,” her voicemail greets you.
You sigh. “Hey, I don’t know why you refuse to pick up my calls, but I could use your help. I’m, uh, freaking out about this stupid dinner that wouldn’t be happening if it wasn’t for what you said, so the least you could do is call me back and help me pick a dress, maybe talk me off the ledge,” you say. Your voice cracks. “Please, Claire, call me back.”
The silence is defeating. You put your phone down, staring at the paperwork before you. You have a lot more of that in your office, but you can’t be bothered to be entirely alone right now. Not when you are fighting a war with yourself inside your head. The one soldier you thought you could count on has retreated from the frontlines.
You look up when your peripheral vision picks up on movement. “Trouble?” one of the nurses asks, motioning to your face.
“Depends on the definition,” you say.
“Hit me with it. Maybe I can help.”
You couldn’t shut up even if you wanted to. “Well… Do you know anything about proper date attire?”
She grins, dropping whatever she was holding before to turn her undivided attention to you. “A date?” she asks. “Well, well, Doc. Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Oh, just… a guy I met. A good guy.” You smile sadly at the thought of those beautiful brown eyes, and the green forest that he hides in his irises whenever the light hits his beautiful face just right. The wrinkles, the dimples, and the faint freckles on his nose, too. He is so beautiful.
She leans forward on her elbows on the counter of the nurse’s station. “The good guy who left your number here the other day?”
You raise your eyebrows, flabbergasted. “Wh—” The blood rushes to your face, and you suddenly feel very warm as you gape at her. “Does everyone here know about that?” you ask, your voice bothered on a high-pitched siren of embarrassment.
The nurse only smirks. “He is very handsome,” she states. “It’s hard to forget a face like that. And he’s come here twice. One of those times he sat by your bedside. Now, I don’t know about you, but I would marry a guy like that in a heartbeat. Bodies in the basement included.”
You hope he doesn’t have bodies in his basement. What if he does though? What if he is just another bad choice waiting to be made? What then? You can’t imagine it, and the things you’re feeling… you have only felt them in your mind because nothing you had was ever real, but you love feeling them now more than you thought possible. It’s the fact that you love that treacherous feeling so much that you feel like you’re not thinking clearly enough to make rational decisions. But you don’t want to make rational decisions, you’ve realized. Life shouldn’t be about that. You can’t turn the voice in your head off and make it stop screaming at you, but you know how to feel. If you only knew how to channel that without falling apart at the hands of your self-doubts though. If only you knew.
You run a wary hand over your face. “Okay,” you murmur, closing your chart so you can look at your colleague. “Claire isn’t answering her phone and this date… it’s freaking me out. She said I had to get back out there, but she bailed on me,” you tell her. “I don’t know what to wear or how to behave because the place we’re going to is… fancy? And I don’t even know how to pay for it. I… I don’t know if I should go because the last time I was on a date… let’s just say it didn’t end well. So, if you could just tell me that this is a bad idea and I should take on a second shift instead so I won’t feel bad about lying to him, I would be forever in your debt.”
She shakes her head, not having missed a second of your rambling. “Oh, hell no!” she exclaims.
You match her incredulity, propping your hands up on your hips. “Excuse me?” you ask.
Her head stops, and the way she stands there reminds you of your English teacher from high school. Tall, brunette, and sassy. “You are not bailing on that date like Claire bailed on you just because you’re experiencing anxiety,” the nurse tells you. She’s insistent. You doubt you will get a word in that isn’t an utterance of agreement.
“You don’t understand,” you try to convince her, or are you trying to convince yourself? “I can’t do this.”
“Yes, you can.”
“Did you miss the part where I said my last date ended in disaster?”
“So what? I’ve had a lot of disastrous dates.”
“That’s not…ugh!” It is your turn to shake your head, looking at the sterile wall as though it were a screen.
A life built on a lie is not much of a life at all. You have as good a reason as anyone to bail on this date, and it’s not just a disastrous date. You didn’t pick the wrong guy off of Hinge and fall in love with him. What happened to you was different on a level you can’t easily describe, but it also shouldn’t define you; she’s right. Your insecurities are going to be the death of you one day.
“Let me ask you this,” she says. “Do you like him? Or do you just think he’s a really good guy because he was nice to you?”
Your jaw slacks. The Audacity. “I… I think he’s a great guy. Nice. Forthcoming. That’s all,” you answer. It’s not a lie, but it is not the full truth she wanted to hear.
“Uh-huh. I may not be a human polygraph, but I can smell a lie from miles away like a bloodhound. And you, Doctor, are lying and therefore interfering with your treatment.”
“I’m not a patient.”
“Are you though?”
You sigh. You should not have confided in her, but also, perhaps it was the best choice you could have made.
“I like him,” you confess upon looking into her eyes. “Okay? I like him. He’s not just a good guy. He’s… different, and that’s why I like him.”
She stands up straighter, a newfound energy filling her veins. “That’s more like it. Now, let’s forget the whole ‘canceling and using work as an excuse’ thing. What’s the vibe?” she asks.
The change of subject throws you off for a second. You’re walking on eggshells, fragile train tracks you could fall off and electrocute yourself with if you only take one wrong step. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take risks.
“Fancy-ish,” you answer. You don’t have any strength left to fight. “I don’t know. It’s dinner.”
“Dinner’s romantic. Put on a silk or velvet dress because those are the fabrics with less risk of becoming a sensory nightmare, possibly some jewelry, but you don’t need much more than that. He’ll fall in love with your personality first. The rest is just… for your confidence and his imagination.”
She looks so proud of herself. You can’t deny that it’s good advice. It’s not the sound of your voice filling a voicemail to the brim or a solely blue chat history; it’s something you can work with.
You nod slowly. “If I didn’t have mountains of paperwork waiting for me, I would kiss you,” you say.
With a chuckle, she retorts, “Save that for your date.”
“I’m not kissing him.” You grab your pile of work. “It’s just dinner. I don’t even want to kiss him.”
On your way to the elevators, you catch a glimpse of her smirk. She’s not buying it. You don’t want her to. You don’t even trust yourself to tell the truth.
“I don’t,” you say, loud enough for her to hear but mostly to yourself. “I don’t want to kiss him,” you repeat because you don’t.
You don’t want to kiss Matt Murdock.
Except that you do, and you would do anything to make that happen—if your world wasn’t so unfair to begin with.

Stella slipped her phone into her back pocket and walked down the long hallway that led to the ice, ready to sit on the bleachers and watch as her brother and her friends practice for their upcoming match. Stella was hesitant at first to come along, but she was glad she decided to, she's had a great time so far.
Her eyes widen in surprise when she sees a very familiar person standing at the end of the hallway, looking out at the ice. Stella’s quiet steps become faster as she calls out his name, her tone was filled with confusion but happiness nonetheless “Juraj?”
The said boy quickly looks away from the ice and turns around at the sound of the very familiar and very much missed voice. His arms fell at his side in shock at the sight in front of him, standing a few feet in front of him was a smiling stella.
“Stella” he whispered her name in shock, his palms immediately became clammy and the smile on her lips made his heart feel like it was going to burst out of his chest. The feelings never left. He cleared his throat and wiped his palms on his jeans as he took a few steps towards her to meet her halfway “Oh wow, uh hi”
Stella smiled and stood on her tiptoes as she threw her arms around his shoulders for a hug, her face pressed against his chest. Juraj froze for a moment from her touch, but he was quick to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her closer. The smell of her signature perfume and having her so close was almost too much for him. He had to stop himself from frowning when she pulled away from the hug far too soon and took a step back from him, his heartstrings pulled in sadness of her being so close but so far.
“I was really hoping that i could see you before the game” Stella confesses with a small smile, having to tilt her head a little to look up at him. Her words were genuine, she really did want to see him, she just felt awkward about texting him and asking for them to meet up, especially with how distant he's been lately.
Little did she know that the only reason he was pulling back was because his feelings for her only seemed to get stronger, and he really didn't want to overstep and ruin things even more. He found himself being surprised by her words, he expected her to be upset or at least a little awkward, but no, she still looked at him with that pretty smile of hers “Really?”
“Yeah, it's been so long since we last saw each other, how have you been?” Stella asked as she moved to stand closer to the rink, leaning against the rink shielding.
“Oh, I've been good, yeah really good” Juraj’s words come out rushed as he leans against the shielding as well, trying to come off as calm and collected while his stomach was filled with butterflies, he didn't know what to do with his awkward hands, so he just fidgeted with the end of his sleeves. Stella raised her eyebrow at his strange behavior, and he was quick to keep the conversation going “And you, how have you been?”
“I've been pretty good as well, it's nice to get out of Michigan for a little bit, i fear i was going to go crazy if i had to stay at my dorm one more day” she really missed traveling, and she was so happy to have her finals over and the summer to start. Yes, she missed her boyfriend, but being with her brother and her friends traveling was a much-needed break for her.
Juraj opens his mouth, but his words are caught in his throat at the sound of someone shouting her name, he watches as she turns around and looks at the ice. Standing by the benches was a smiling and waving Ryan Leonard, he was the one to call her over. Juraj held in his sigh of disappointment when she shouted back “be right there!”
Stella turned back to face him and stood up straight, Juraj following in tow. She gave him a sorry smile, sad to have their conversation stop. “Well, that's my cue, I'll see you around?”
“Yeah, I'll see you around hviezda” the nickname for her split out before he could stop himself, and he was worried that it would have made her uncomfortable, but she just smiled and gave him a small smile as he took a step back, they said their quick byes and she watched as he started to walk down the long hallway, away from her.
“Hey Juraj” Stella called out before he walked off too far. He stopped walking and turned around to face her “Yeah?”
“Don't be a stranger, okay?” Stella smiled nervously as she tilted her head slightly as she gave him a small nod, stuffing her hands in the front pockets of her jeans. Memories of them laughing and cuddling in his bed as she tried to teach him the meaning of the said saying, played in his head. Juraj cleared his throat and stuffed his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie, a small chuckle leaving his lips before he replies, his accent strong “Ditto”
A small giggle left her lips, and she shook her head and watched as he left her sight. She let out a heavy sigh and looked away from the hallway when he was gone, a small pinch of sadness in her heart. She made her way towards the other side of the rink where the bench and her waiting friends were, trying to push away that small feeling of sadness at the realization that their friendship would never be the same.
Neither of them is aware of the person hiding behind the bleachers, looking down at their camara and the pictures they took of them.

I feel like in those few days post s3 when Rex was comatose in the Sour Grape Jericho was super excited because now that Rex was here he could teach him red blank things and have lots of fun and be the coolest big brother ever and it would be so awesome, and Claude was counting the minutes until Rex woke up because he remembered all the times he committed psychological warfare against his siblings and thought this would be so funny only to be supremely disappointed when Rex turned out to be too nice to be the Little Brother
yeah tbh, the sad thing is jericho's enthusiasm about rex being there, while kind of exaggerated for his "nice guy" act, was sincere. he did state several times in early s3 that he hopes rex can just end up being on their side and that it never comes to killing him, and he meant that sincerely.
it was honestly pretty exciting to him that he finally had someone who understood a bit of what he was going through as a red blank w/ an evil little scion in their heads, and he really hoped rex could align with his ideals. if you think about it, rex probably would have been the only person his scion would have allowed him to bond with too, had he agreed with jericho's ideals. his enthusiasm about that possibility was sincere.

johnny cade
falling in love with your best friend. it’s a common troupe in tv shows, but have you ever noticed it never works out in real life?
you watched from a distance as johnny walked around the whole east-side with ponyboy. your ‘best friend’ was hanging out with someone else after telling you, ‘he was busy.’
a sudden feeling of disappointment washed over you. it was no longer the usual sadness you felt after seeing johnny hang out with his other friends after bailing on you.
you were almost numb to it.
the ball in your throat you’d usually get as tears swelled in your eyes evolved into thoughts of what was for dinner.
before, you’d drop hints that you’d like him. all johnny would do is brush them off. you know he’s not stupid and that he knew what you meant, he just didn’t feel the same.
now, you’re avoiding him. which was easier than you think as it still seemed he was uncomfortable around you.
eventually, you just stopped talking. people would ask why you guys don’t hang out anymore or they’d ask where johnny was. all you’d do was shrug your shoulders.
why should you care?
a significant amount of time had passed since johnny last seen you face-to-face. obviously, he was mature enough to admit that it was his fault. but, he can’t stand being awkward around you.
until one fateful and unfortunate day.
“ow! jesus, man—watch where you’re going.”
“yea.”
johnny mumbled, watching the random, rather pretty person, rub their head. you looked up instead of looking down at the concrete, only to meet johnny cade’s eyes.
“johnny?”
“wait-y/n?”
his eyes scanned you up and down, shock settings in. how were you the same person he’d giggle with about the latest comic?
“uh, yeah. tha’s me.”
you mumbled, feeling a little bit awkward from it all. i mean, who wouldn’t? he’s looking at you like you’re a model from the magazine’s two-bit steals.
“…wow. you, uhm—look amazing.”
“yeah, thanks.”
you two muttered amongst yourselves, looking like the epitome of awkward teens. johnny was rubbing the back of his neck as you picked at your nails.
“so,”
johnny started, his voice already shaking and unstable.
“what’re you doing this week?”
“gonna be busy. sorry.”
you waved off his question before saying a sorry excuse for a goodbye.
johnny stood there, feeling slight deja vu as you walked past him. he used to tell you he was gonna be busy to stay away.
and now here you are, doing the same.
the ball in this throat wouldn’t go away no matter how hard he tried to swallow it back, no matter how hard he tried to blink the tears away.
a familiar feeling of sadness washed over him
dallas winston
“it’s not like i’d ever date you, anyhow.”
sure, he was drunk when he said it as you carried him out of the drive-in. but, you know the saying. drunk words are sober thoughts.
you liked dallas. like, a lot. many might’ve said he wasn’t worthy of you—you disagreed each time. but, it was clear he didn’t feel the same.
he treated you like a friend. which, you two were friends, but it’s hard to watch someone you love treat you like the same guys he puts into headlocks.
after that, you distanced yourself. you knew he was cursing you deep down for ignoring him, fuelling his belief that every person was out for him.
but, you couldn’t look at him without feeling like crying while angrily punching him.
a few months went passed and you, somehow, managed to steer clear of dallas winston for the time being.
until one slip-up.
you and your new-found-friends all watched the drag race with giggles and cheers filling the air.
a tap on your shoulder pulled you out of the trance, turning your head only to be greeted with dallas’ cold, dark eyes.
“i thought that was you, y’know. where the hell have you been?”
everyone got awkward. you avoided his gaze whilst your friends went silent, whispering to each other.
“around.”
“so, you go ‘round and change up your whole look?”
“exactly.”
you answered, an obvious attitude in your voice as you held back an eye roll.
“well, you look good. if that’s what you wanna hear.”
“i know. now go away, dallas.”
you spat before turning your attention back to the track, quickly talking your friends back into their excited mood.
dallas watched as you acted like he didn’t exist. he clenched his jaw as he walked away, his hands in a fist while walking into an abandoned alleyway.
a crack was heard from his knuckles, followed by a groan. his skin was red, fresh wounds opening before he punched the brick wall again.
the seconds felt like minutes and the minutes felt like hours as dallas trashed the alleyway, making it look like a tornado had rushed through only the narrow path.
anger was the only thing he felt. for you embarrassing him and for allowing you to slip through his fingers.
ponyboy curtis
“i don’t see myself datin’ you. you know that, right?”
he snapped after you, not so subtly, hinted that you liked him. ponyboy was always one for brutal honesty, but at a time like this, it wasn’t needed.
the longer and longer you thought about it, you seemed to create this idea of ponyboy. the one that would take you out, not ignore your feelings, step up when he had to, and most importantly—actually like you.
delusional is what you’d call it. psycho is what ponyboy told his friends as you sat across the street with yours.
over summer break, it was only natural you’d mature and grow into your looks. you were always beautiful, but the change was enough to knock anyone out of their seat.
especially when it was your ex-crush slash ex-best friend.
you sat out on a bench by the lot, chin tilted up to look at the stars that twinkled. the concept of ‘vampire stars,’ always amazed you.
things so beautiful were still able to suck the lives out of the ones closest to them. the shining dots in the black ink of the sky still resembled the humans below.
“y/n..? why are you out so late?”
you heard a groggy voice come from behind you after a tap on your shoulder. unfortunately for you, you immediately recognized the voice.
“i was jus’ about to go home, ponyboy.”
you mumbled in response, quick to gather your things. panic washed over pony as he seen you getting ready to leave. his hand grabbed your wrist, loosening his grip as he realized how weird it was.
“can’t you stay a little longer and talk?”
“not really, i don’t see myself talking to you anytime soon. good night, ponyboy.”
you answered rather bluntly as you yanked your wrist out of his hold. you walked away without bothering to look behind you.
ponyboy stood there, dumbfounded. he was always one to read between the lines—so when you told him, “anytime soon,” he took that as, “i’ll talk to you, just not right now.”
call it delusion or insanity, but in his head, he was just seeing someone who is still getting over the crush they had on him.
maybe you’ll like him back soon.
sodapop curtis
“i like someone else, y/n. ‘m real sorry.”
even when he’s rejecting you, he still treated you better than any other guy you’d dated. that’s why you could never say you hated sodapop curtis, he’s too sweet for such a word.
although, he wasn’t all that sweet if he was avoiding you. soda said he’d forget like the whole confession thing happened, but he clearly didn’t even bother trying.
you longed for him to even wave at you. for his eyes to meet yours. you just wanted his attention. desperation was truly a shameful thing.
he was so quick to go and date sandy. maybe it was a blessing in disguise. it helped you move on quicker. slower than most, yes, but quicker than you ever thought.
you had met a rather cute guy awhile back. made you feel like a little girl again with how special he treated you. he made you forget all about soda.
you waved goodbye to your boyfriend as he kissed you on the cheek before you closed the car door. he dropped you off at home, so it wasn’t a far walk. any farther and sodapop, who was sitting inside, would’ve went crazy.
your mom had let him in, pushing your old history aside and offered him a hot cup of tea. he sipped on it while holding back tears.
once the click of the lock was heard, soda’s eyes began to water.
“y/n, sandy she-“
he mumbled as he seemed to lunge at you, his arms already wrapped around you. you felt his tears hit the crown of your head like bullets.
despite your morals, you pushed him away, wriggling yourself out of your grasp.
“dude, you can’t just do that.”
“why not? i thought we were best friends.”
“were, soda. we were friends.”
you said flatly, no emotion past disappointment in your voice when you spoke while you took your shoes off.
“and don’t touch me. i have a boyfriend.”
“you what?”
“yeah. i don’t like you anymore and we aren’t friends. you can go home now.”
soda stood there with a broken expression on his face, he was nothing more than a defeated and an empty man in a house that was no longer comforting.
he watched as you walked around the corner, not even sparing a glance toward him.
a small part of him hoped you would. you’d gotten prettier since he’d last saw you. your eyes shinned brighter, your smile was wider, and you stood with more confidence.
he really, really wanted you to look at him.
darry curtis
“look, y/n. i like you and all, but i needa focus on myself and my football.”
two years ago, before you guys graduated, you confessed. you immediately regretted it.
you looked a fool as darry curtis nervously rubbed the back of his head. all you did was nod and let out a small, ‘okay,’ before walking off.
you went to the college that was the farthest away from tulsa. being in the city reminded you of the embarrassment.
as you studied, you obviously matured. both mentally and physically. you no longer held the silly grudge against darry, even when you had to go back to visit family.
but all it took was a small wave toward darry for all the memories to go rushing back. but, not to you. to him.
seeing you giggle as you played with your younger cousins made him regret telling you he wanted to focus on football.
he envisioned the life you two could’ve had.
you helping ponyboy with his schoolwork, comforting soda when sandy had left him, and making him a home cooked meal when he went home.
but that’s all behind him now. it was just a fantasy.
you two are older. and even then, it’s not like you’d give him a chance. you still think he’s the biggest football star.
steve randle
“i don’t like you. i’m sorry, y/n. i jus’ don’t.”
and he left it off at that. of course, you never out right said you liked him. steve randle wasn’t stupid, however.
he knows how to read between the lines. and you know when to leave someone alone. and steve clearly didn’t want to be around you.
you watched longingly from afar when you seen him in any casual setting. you’d do anything to take the confession back—to go back to normal.
as the weeks and months passed, you never even seen steve. it seemed your obsessive staring and the need to check up on him constantly ended.
the habit, or rather the addiction, finally stopped.
it didn’t stop for steve. he seen you at the DX for the first time in awhile, smiling and giggling with your friends.
you’d only smile like that with him. he grasped the wrench harder as he clenched his jaw.
while paying, steve made sure to walk through the front doors so you’d see him.
“oh. hey, y/n.”
“…hey.”
you muttered with your brows pinched together, looking at him like he was the girls you used to gossip about him with.
“so, uh—you look nice.”
“thanks.”
your boring answer made it seem like you wanted a way out. and steve knew when to let go of a conversation, he wasn’t dumb.
you walked past him and out the door, your friends glaring at him. his eyes never left your figure as you walked away.
he wished he could take back the words he said. maybe if he wasn’t so rude, you’d be back beside him.
two-bit mathews
“you’re funny, y/n.”
funny. funny was what he thought about your feelings. you loving him was funny.
fine. you’d show him funny. let’s see if him being without you was ‘funny.’
you avoided him, ignoring him when he tried to call you over. this would help you move on and show him what was fucking ‘funny.’
the next, ‘hey, y/n,’ should be the last. you couldn’t stand to look at the dumb curl from his brunette hair that rested on his forehead. you couldn’t stand his laugh.
two-bit had gotten the hint. he left you alone even though it felt weird walking around town without you.
he hadn’t seen you in weeks, until at the bar. he heard your giggle and suddenly his heart raced like never before.
maybe it was jealousy or dislike.
two-bit found you sitting on a bar stool, a shot in hand. out of instinct and habit, he wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
“two-bit?”
“why’ve you been ignoring me, dude?”
the humour in his voice was no longer there as he felt nothing was funny in you ignoring him.
“that’s funny, two. go bother dallas or somethin’.”
you grumbled with your jaw clenched, pushing him off you. two-bit muttered something under his breath as he pushed the exit.
he cannot stand the way your hands were still soft or how your lips were still parted when you focused in on the conversation.

Missed me?
part 1 | part 2
Pairing: Stepmommy Wanda x f!reader
Tags: Stepmom x stepdaughter, fluff, daddy issues, kissing, drinking, mentions of upcoming smut
Summary: Y/N's back from college and finds out her stepmother may have missed her just as much as she did
Dinner ended after a painfully long 2 hours and you helped Wanda finish up the dishes while you two caught up. "So, did you meet anyone special over there?" The words tasted bitter in her mouth. "No, not really. Just a bunch of people who wasted my time." Wanda paused briefly after putting a plate in this sink, "Who wasted your time?" The question felt more than casual, like she demanded an answer. "Just people I thought respected me, turns out they all thought I was a joke." She frowned at you, "I don't think you're a joke, my Y/N." That nickname always left your face burning. "Thank you Wanda, I missed you." She pulled you in for an unexpected hug, one that was so rudely interrupted by your father coming to grab his 9th glass of wine.
After the dishes were done your father left upstairs to do who-knows what, and you went to your room to watch a movie with Wanda. The two of you had established a tradition of late-night movie watching about a year ago. Every Thursday Wanda comes to lay with you on your bed and you watch some cheesy laughable movie while you try to hide your giggles from your father. It was always completely innocent, until today that is.
The movie started and you both had already started your fits of laughter before you even grabbed the popcorn. Wanda was always very hospitable, so she loved setting up a series of snacks for the two of you. The movies you always watched were full of cheesy jokes and dumb humor, but this time Wanda wanted to watch something a little but more serious, a romance.
The main characters had already kissed 9 different people only 10 minutes into the movie. "I don't understand how people do it." You commented, upset by the actions of the character. "Do what?" Wanda replied. "Make-out with a bunch of random people all the time just for fun. I don't understand it. Why can't people just love one person forever? And only that person?" She began rubbing your arm softly at that last part. Your breath got caught in your throat at the sudden action. "Mhm" She agreed quietly. "M-maybe they're just lonely." You said trying to regain your thoughts. She stopped at your words, "Do you kiss a lot of people when you're lonely?" Her voice sounded softer, sadder, something you almost never hear from her. "No, but I might try it." You joked with a sad laugh, "I felt so lonely at school, for so long, I don't want to feel lonely anymore." She got quiet, when you looked up at her she was looking at you, focused. Her left hand gently caressed your head, while her right rubbed circles on your stomach. She opened her mouth, and then closed it. She did it again, and again, you anxiously waited for what she was trying to say. What could she have to say that would take this much effort? "Let me be the one you love forever, my Y/N," She whispered so boldly. "the one you always kiss, the one who kills your lonely, the one who makes you feel special every time you think you aren't." She paused, "I love you."
Your eyes filled with tears, and she pulled you into her to steal them with her lips. She softly kissed every tear that fell while she silently hoped you felt comforted by it. When they stopped falling she pulled away. "Wanda, I-" Her expression grew disappointed and saddened. "It's okay Y/N, I understand this is an interesting situation, you don't have to-" You practically threw yourself onto her smashing your lips together again. You heard her sniffle and you quickly pulled away. "Wanda?" She smiled and sniffled back more cries, "You're everything to me Y/N, I've loved you for so long and now you're finally mine." You smiled smugly back at her, "Well, there's still one thing you haven't claimed yet." She looked at you confused, "What?" You signaled for her to get closer, "my virginity."

Hear me out instead of a jealous Ruhn it’s a jealous FRIEND reader.
This is sad… sorry 🥲
I give up on us
He wasn’t necessarily an attention whore but Ruhn loved when the whole room had eyes on him. At time of course. And while there were moments where you could laugh at his behavior. The careless sense of freedom he radiated. Much more often his actions just made you jealous. It was stupid. You knew it. Because what could you possibly be jealous of? He wasn’t your boyfriend. Had made it painfully clear that you both were friends. “Love having you as a friend you know”, those words still made your gut reach.
Walk into the kitchen you try to shake off the crappy mood. After all the boys had given you a heads-up about the party. So you had come home prepared to walk into chaos. While you weren’t a fan of Sea of People you could understand why boys loved it. It was great to disappear in the sea of people and equally as much bask in the attention.
Spotting both Declan and Flynn you slowly make your way to them. Letting the comfort of their embraces chase the tension in your body. “Where is Ruhn?”, your eyes scanned the living room over and over again. Trying to find the shit-eating grin. “Oh you will not like it, doll”, Dec whispered, down another shot while Flynn shot daggers at his friend.
“What is that supposed to mean?”, you crossed your arms over your chest.
“Look, he is pretty high…”, “I didn’t ask for the back story. I asked where he was”, you cut him off, frowning. Flynn’s eyes grow sympathetic as he nods towards the back terrace. You take a deep breath before yanking the door open, heart tumbling to your heels almost immediately. The blonde jumped back. Lips puffed as she glared up at you.
“What the fuck, bitch”, she grumbled, pulling her shirt back over her breasts. “Y/N”, Ruhn growled, rubbing a hand over his face. “Oh, don’t let me stop you”, you hissed, shaking your head. You knew that the fact that he had been slithering into your bed for cuddles for the last month meant nothing. But there was still that stupid part of you…
“Baby, come on”, Ruhn pushed the girl off his lap. “Baby? You said you were single”, the blonde shrieked.
A part of you wanted to unload a shit tonnes of hell on her but she wasn’t the one to blame. So you turned on your heels. Walking past your two other friends who looked as sad and disappointed. But you raised a hand at them not wanting to listen to anyone. You were done. You should have moved out a long time ago. Should have put a stop to this mess.
“Get out of the car”, Rhun growled right as you started your engine. You fixed him a glare, daring him to try you but he stepped right in front of your car. Messing the only way out was to drive him over. “Kill the engine, Y/N”, he grunted. “Fuck yourself backward, asshole”, you slapped your hand on the signal. But you barely managed to blink before he rounded the car. Leaning in through the open window and yanking the keys out.
“Go back to your pussy of the night”, you hissed, trying to grab the keys out of his hands, failing miserably. “What the fuck is up with you tonight”, Ruhn grumbled, eyes blazing. “What’s wrong with me?”, you chuckled bitterly, kicking the door shut behind you, “you know what’s wrong with me”, you bit back.
Ruhn’s face blanched slightly. Of course, he didn’t realize it. Fucking boys. “You and your games and all this shit”, you pushed at his chest, “why the hell have you been coming to my room, hm?”, you pointed a finger at him. “Because I… you bring me comfort”, he shrugged. But you just shook your head, “Can’t that blonde bimbo do the same? Or am I some pity booty call to you”, you hated how fast your eyes started stinging. But you weren’t gonna break. No. You would not let him take the last bit of your dignity too.
“What…”, Ruhn huffed, “You’re my friend we are always there for each other”, he lifted his hands in the air. You let out a grown, “That fucking word!“, it felt like you should be ripping your hair out, “I have feelings for you, idiot!”, you whimpered.
You could practically see the moment all the puzzle pieces finally fell into place for him. He swallowed thickly, turning away from you. But that only made the anger bubble up more. Yanking his shirt you pulled him back, “Look me in the eyes when you break my heart at least”, you hissed. But his eyes were lost and dazed as he looked back at you, “Y/n”, he muttered as if it physically pained him.
Fear flushed through you in that moment. A realization that you actually couldn’t watch him break you apart. “Forget it”, you breathed, “Just save it. I already know what you will say”. You snatched the keys from his hands, moving back towards your car. “Let me fucking talk”, Ruhn pulled at your arm but you yanked it free from his grip. “I gave up on you… on us tonight”, you whispered, lip wobbly, “Nothing you will say will make me change my mind”. Ruhn pulled back as if you had physically burned him, jaw clenched tightly. He opened his mouth one last time and you hoped he would not listen to you. To fight regardless of your words but instead, he turned back, practically running back into the house.

Oh man
If Cain was ever successfully kidnaped from Adam I imagine that it would completely mentally break him. Abandoned by everyone, force fed the forbidden fruit and banished, and then his CHILD gets stolen and he can’t get him back
I think the resulting version of Adam would be MUCH darker and bring new meaning to the term “hell to pay”
On the other hand, maybe Luci will learn something from watching Adam’s love for his son. Maybe he’ll realize he can’t take something like that away and he wants something similar
Very different endings for this story
Dude if Cain were to be taken away, jesus, nothing would bring that eden Adam back 😭 he WOULD make sure they all pay for it and I dunno maybe once Cain finds out about the truth he would try to reason with his dad but Adam is already too lost to care, which will be super sad cause I can picture Lucifer telling Cain stories when he’s a child about how Adam would be this amazing guy who took ‘care’ of him while in the garden. I feel that’s something Lucifer wouldn’t be able to take away from Cain even if he has to say that Adam was just like a babysitter to Cain (cause he wasn’t allowed to tell the truth about what happened in eden or talk about Adam at all bc of Eve).
But behind their backs though... Lucifer would be telling Cain stories about the first man and how nice he was with him when he was a tinsy bitsy baby.
Like. This would be Lucifer’s story to Charlie.
“And then came Eve, made from the rib of Adam.
Both humans fell madly in love. For a long period everything was perfect, peaceful, beautiful. And from that same love flourished a seed into Eve’s womb, and then Cain was born.
However, when Cain was just welcoming life in his heart with curious eyes, an innocent sweet soul oblivious to his parents growing struggles and disagreements. His parents broke apart due to Eve’s will to be free and find new purpose within herself.
Adam was left disappointed, he disagreed with Eve, he refused to support her dreams and was left behind as Eve forced herself out from Adam’s stubborn faith for heaven.”
And this would be Cain’s.
“And then came Eve, made from the rib of Adam.
Both humans fell in love in an instant but the love was not strong, at least not enough for Adam to leave the garden with Eve. Leading Adam and Eve to break up but remaining as friends and partners.
When Adam and Eve were given the news from the angels that Eve was blessed with the child of a miracle granted by the devine magic of heaven, they were enthusiastic for another human.
However, the angels were oblivious to Adam and Eve’s struggles to form a bond. The birth of Cain made both humans team up to raise the baby, this left Eve’s desire to leave the garden to withhold for the time being.
Adam had become a caring and doting figure to Cain, he gave his all for the baby; every ounce of love in his heart was given to the miracle baby, he protected him from anything that could possibly upset or cause harm to Cain. He sang and played with him. The baby adored him and Adam adored him back.
Everything seem to return to its peaceful state in the garden, as Adam and Eve had made a truce for the sake of Cain. But it didn’t last long as for Eve began to feel the emptiness surging in her heart once more when it came to the garden.
Eve grew tired again and the dream of wanting to be set free resurfaced with much more fire, she tried convincing Adam again but this only lead for another argument between the humans. Adam picked the garden over Eve, Adam loved the garden he wanted more than anything but to stay. This left Eve devastated and heartbroken; making the poor woman search for comfort in the arms of Lilith and Lucifer.
Adam took care of Cain until Eve decided in what she’d choose. She chose to flee with Cain outside the garden alongside her friends the angel and first woman. Leaving Adam alone in the garden.”
Adds more to the hell lore and the conflicting feelings Cain would experience when he actually meets Adam and this whole drastically changed man from the stories he’s been told turned out to be a really cold and heartless person.
Zgdksvdowir
But in this au I’m pretty much going to a similar route like the last part you were going with! Like Lucifer falling to realize that Adam isn’t this controlling freak as Lilith would make it seem was, finding Eve’s desires to take Cain from Adam being a little selfish and all that conflicting stuff
Let’s just say… that he falls in love with Adam in the process regardless of the outcome sbelfvwlsnwñw
I’m still trying to figure it out tbh so things would change in this au if I decide to continue it

a clegan au where John love Gale so much that he doesn't want to live anymore, because Gale would never be his.
the realization hit him like a punch in the stomach, making him lose all air. ''I don't want to live'', John thought, ''I don't want to be alive'', he realized as tears gathered in his eyes. and now that he had realized it he couldn't stop thinking about it.
''I don't see any reason to be alive'', he kept thinking. it hurt, not having hope of getting better, how that hurt. it was the kind of pain that made his chest burn, physically burn. it was such a strong emotional pain that he felt it throughout his trembling body. His pain was reflected in his stomach that refused to feel hungry, in his eyes that continued to burn with repressed tears, in his throat that tried to suppress the urge to vomit that was growing.
he never thought he could feel so much pain. but every time he closed his eyes, he saw blue. the blue that reminded him so much of the sea. the sea that made him wish he had never learned how to swim, so he could drown in it. he would enter its blue immensity where he would waste his breath until his bitter lungs cried out for air. an air he would not receive. he didn't want to breathe anymore. he just wanted to get lost in that blue, he just wanted to drown in that blue.
every night, the blue of Gale's eyes haunted him, even though he closed his own eyes, he still saw it. if he slept, he dreamed with this blue, and while awake, that was all he saw.
loving Gale made John want to die, because he could never have him. and every day john cursed the God who put him in this world, just to make him love another man. why would God do this to him? he didn't understand. why make him love another man in a world that didn't allow that? it was unfair. was it a punishment? he didn't think he deserved it, despite all his sins.
what hurt most was his own desires, how he couldn't help but think what it would be like to live in a world that allowed him to say out loud that he loved Gale, a world in which he could feel gale's lips on his. sometimes he dreamed about it, and when he woke up it seemed so real that he could have sworn the kiss had been real.
it was horrible to think of a world where things could be different, because no matter how many times he thought about it, how many times he imagined it, no matter how many times he screamed to the sky begging, shouting ''please'', nothing would change and he could still be happy only in his head, only in his dreams. and each day that passed made it even less worth waking up. it was just to difficult to live knowing that he could only be truly happy in his fantasies.
and because of that most days he tried to sleep early even though he wasn't tired or sleepy, he just couldn't stay awake another second in a world where Gale wasn't his, while his eyes were open all he felt was pain. it was so much pain, much more than he could handle.
every time he opened his eyes and reality hit him, he was reminded that he could never have what he wanted. he could never be the love of his life. he just couldn't take it anymore.
it was so despairing and every time the air went in and out of his lungs, his despair increased, so he didn't want to breathe anymore.
if John could define living in just one word he would say that living is disappointing. he just didn't want it anymore.
sometimes Gale seemed to notice his sadness and at random moments of the day he would ask how John was.
''i'm between wanting to take your clothes off, or wanting to take my life.'' John would respond if he was honest, instead he said ''I'm fine.''
he just wanted to close his eyes, dream about Gale one last time, and never wake up.

sharing my thoughs on main because I refuse to sleep right now with this show on my brain
Spoilers Under Cut
Darius;
I'm sadly a tad disappointed. He wasn't changed, persay, but I'm sooo upset he didn't spout One Single Dino Fact! Obviously he's not a kid anymore, I expected them all to grow up and change a little, but he felt very, lacking. I get it, he was depressed and guilty about Brooklyn, but I feel like there were times he could have shined through his old light. My favorite scene was when he was in awe of the glowing Saurolophus's. It's so boring that they gave him a crush on Brooklyn, can they not think up any new plot ideas?
Kenji;
He, Yaz, and Sammy are all tied with best, good character progression. He's still the same guy who wouldn't abandon his camp fam when push came to shove, and his breakdown when his dad died was a new peak for this show to top on giving me emotions. (I literally made a sad/sob noise when he said father in his native tongue, proving once again how much he longed to impress the dirtbag that didn't deserve him.) Every moment he had with Darius made me crave more, I long for flashbacks of the Bowman family. Also, him punning his name is my new favorite thing, I demand at least one Kon pun a season now, please and thank you
Ben;
Love his energy, as usual, he had some of the funniest moments easily and I'd cry too if someone was abusing my dino! I can't believe he left Bumpy behind twice!!
Yammy;
While I give slight credit they didn't do a breakup/ back together thing, it feels like they almost did, but since we don't know how long they spent not speaking I'm going to pretend this was a recent development and Ben and Darius just dropped on the tail end of it. As said above with Kenji, I appreciate they kept their characters consistent and progressed previous storylines without making them feel like whole new people. Regardless, happy they're still together and just being the best life goals for a partner
Brooklyn;
I'd honestly hoped they had the guts to really kill her. It would have given the show a much more dangerous feel than they'll ever manage now, and I'm sooo looking forward hearing what her great plan was for not telling the others she's alive. She was always my least favorite and least relatable and I appreciated her not even being in this season and I hope they draw this out as long as possible so I don't have to deal with her
