I’m super disappointed cause earlier today I learned that an artist whose work I ADORE (they’ve been doing a lot of Gale from BG3, I’m a simple man) is a fan of H*gwarts L*gacy and like. Look if you like the shitty wizard game that fine, whatever. But as a trans man I want you to know I don’t feel comfortable interacting with you!
And no I will not be naming the artist, because while I’m now uncomfortable with them, I’m not the morality police and I don’t think everyone who plays the shitty wizard game is doing it maliciously against trans folks. Doesn’t mean I have to put up with seeing them on my dash tho! 😜

I went to the Leeds Queer Market!
Some purchases I made and some new creators to follow.
Tumblr media
I went along to the Leeds Playhouse this afternoon before we went to see Barbie later on, and I was super pleased to go along — they were up on one of the floors in the Playhouse where the kitchen is, with various tables set up selling arts and crafts, jewellery, prints, cacti, and so on.
The market is run by Quercus Craft, I think every month or so? And I just wanted to show off some of the things I picked up and link to the creators’ stores and social media!
---
Firstly, I picked up this gorgeous print from Matt David (they/them), who is a queer Scottish artist based out of London — a lot of their work grapples with queerness and sexuality, including safe sex and HIV awareness, but also layers of symbolism, how symbols are created and communicated, and there’s this big thematic trend of exploring the symbology around queer bodies, the ways in which they’re objectified through fellow queer gazes, to incredible effect.
Tumblr media
I love this piece so much — Matt David has several pieces like this one where they create these layered cyanotype portraits whilst also scanning the condoms through, and because of the material of the condoms and the lubricant on them, they have this incredible shine effect on them. I adore this piece, Hey Daddy, because of the halo-like shimmer of the condom’s ring over the figure’s head, and I’m so, so excited to put this in a gold frame and hang it up in my new place once I’m moved in.
As well as these figures using condoms, they also have some beautiful colour portraiture featuring different queer heroes — I especially love this piece of Marsha P. Johnson — and do other forms of portraiture and sketches!
They’re open for commissions, as I said, and they’re also the Art Editor for Snowflake Magazine.
You can check out Matt David and purchase their work on:

---
I picked up a few pieces of jewellery from Abigaia (she/her), a (n English) northerner and queer witch who plays a lot with themes of nature and spirituality in her work — she’s got a big focus on using sustainable materials in her craftwork as well as in its packaging, which is so awesome to see, the values of the work itself extended to its packaging materials.
Tumblr media
I was super excited about the variety of charms and pendants she had on show — I picked up a snake, a rainbow mushroom, and a serotonin symbol, but she had so many to choose from. On her website, you can buy a mystery charm for £4, or ask for a specific charm in the notes — she’s got a huge variety of nature-based and spiritual symbols, including different animals, traditional websites, flora and mushrooms, a few chemical structures, and different pagan religious symbols.
If you love tarot, she’s also got some gorgeous earring sets featuring different tarot cards!
You can check out Abigaia and purchase her work on:

From Nad (she/they), I only picked up a pair of pronoun stickers for my partners, but you should absolutely check out the broad array of their work!
Nadya Griendroheru is an Indonesian artist and illustrator who just creates some absolutely gorgeous examples of character design — they have a really awesome flow and use of colour in their work with exaggerated angles and features, bright yellows, oranges, reds, greens, with a real sense of movement and personality conveyed in each print and piece.
Tumblr media
She had a bunch of different Breaking Bad characters with pronouns printed on them (except for the one of Hank, which says ACAB), just like this one, and I just thought they were hilarious.

I don’t think that they have any of their earrings available for sale on their online store at the moment, but if you do see them selling in person anywhere, they do a variety of earrings like this one, as well as geckos and lizards, frogs, candies and sweets, and they’re very cute! They also had on the stall a range of badges and stickers, little ornaments, and so on.
Build Your Jungle UK produce a lot of resources and guides to cultivating and looking after tropical plants at home, as well as creating some utterly gorgeous prints and stickers showing different varieties of plants and foliage, and also frogs!
The creators, Sofi (they/them) and Han (they/he) both have backgrounds in graphic design, so they collaborate on making these gorgeous illustrative posters and stickers of different plants you might cultivate in the home, and the pieces are just so vibrant and alive in their use of popping colour and really clean linework that makes every piece seem to pop right off the page.

Whats Your Opinion On Bvlgari Bags?
Bulgari bags mix modern with traditional to create covetable equipment with signature Italian flair. Each piece is impressed by Bulgari's deep Roman roots, so anticipate high-shine leather and gold detailing to come back as normal. From the Serpenti Forever bag with its chain straps and snake element to bigger tote kinds, these luxurious items can't be beaten for his or her beauty. ― A quirky small-town nation woman strikes to Tokyo to begin out her exciting high school career. No, this is Skip and Loafer, and whereas it definitely isn'... ― Anime author Dai Sato reported on Friday that screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto (Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Tokyo Godfathers, Macross Plus) handed away on December 1 after a battle with esophageal cancer. Her household held a non-public service on December 4, and director Shinichiro Watanabe confirmed her passing to Sato. Araki is a fan of the Bulgari brand and wrote that he identifies with model's robust use of symbolism, in this case, a snake. He relates a Stand as also a type of protector, so he hopes that by placing the image for Killer Queen on on a daily basis objects, it'll work like a protecting allure for the owner. Presented here is a magnificent Bulgari hand bag / purse. The bag can either be used as a shoulder bag / purse, or the bag can be used as a prime... Fine cabochon sapphire and 18K yellow gold "Melon" purse by Bulgari. It includes a diagonal ribbed design, with cabochon sapphire button launch. I see lots of baggage, naturally, but very few tactfully mix the artwork of knickknack and leather as well as Bvlgari. wikipedia handbags Please take a second to browse through my hand-picked assortment of stylish designer handbags. Before you go, I really have put together a review of essentially the most elegant designer handbags in a group that I assume you will get pleasure from. Since opening their doorways in 1884, Bvlgari has embodied the opulence and sophistication first envisioned by Greek-born founder Sotirio Bulgari. Over the 136 years that the style home has been in enterprise, they have designed a variety of the most iconic jewellery, footwear, and bags on the earth. Made of white, agate calf leather-based with an attention grabbing ‘graphic chain’ design it has a relaxed magnificence to it which is reminiscent of marble. Made of gorgeous Karung leather, this silver-tone bag with its twisted gold chain and black and white enamel snakehead is bold. Despite the block colouring, the clever panels and construction of the bag give it texture and motion. Bulgari's watches collections include Octo, BVLGARI BVLGARI, Diagono and Haute Horlogerie creations for men, and LVCEA, Serpenti, Divas' Dream, BVLGARI BVLGARI, B.zero1 and High Jewellery timepieces for ladies. Not a lot a night bag as a daytime statement, that is good for anyone who likes to let their gentle shine. Prices for a bulgari bag can differ relying upon measurement, designer and different attributes — on 1stDibs, these accessories start at $209 and may go as excessive as $75,000, while, on average they fetch $899. The Serpenti Bag first came out in 2012 and was impressed by the Bulgari wraparound watch. Quilted appears are firmly back in fashion, and this shoulder bag slots perfectly into the niche with its jewel red calfskin leather chain strap. The brass-tone chain and snakehead, with its shining onyx eyes, actually distinction the remainder of the bag nicely, however the quilted leather top flap is the star of the show. The Bvlgari Serpenti Forever Crossbody Bag is the favored crossbody model of this bag, which presents a structured top handle as properly as a series and leather shoulder strap. The exterior options easy calf leather-based panels, in a perfectly fairly rosa di francia hue of pink, that overlay to create a novel design element which provides dimension. When you open the bag, you’re met with three compartments and the back provides a small open pocket with an hooked up metallic mirror, which is a really luxurious contact. The shoulder strap, which utilizes a snake-shaped chain together with leather where it's going to sit in your shoulder, is each detachable and adjustable. Superb girls's clutch bag by Bulgari with golden steel particulars and floral embroidery. This clutch bag is really a refined accent to combine with a cocktail or party outfit. Finely embellished with prestigious supplies, Bvlgari's designer luggage for women are a real symbol of class within the 'Made in Italy' leather craftsmanship tradition. If you’re on the lookout for a classy night bag that has an edgy contact of rock ‘n’ roll to it, then this shoulder bag is for you. The high-quality black calfskin that makes up this bag is perfectly accented by the ridges of chain-decorated leather-based that cover the physique. The smooth, lilac calfskin leather that makes up the physique of the bag is perfectly complemented by the pink interior. While the highest handle is made of leather-based, this bag nonetheless options the snake-effect chain that Bvlgari is thought for. Under the deal, the Bulgari household offered their 50.four per cent controlling stake in trade for 3 per cent of LVMH, thereby changing into the second-biggest family shareholder behind the Arnaults in LVMH. The takeover doubled the size of LVMH's watches and jewelry unit, which on the time of the acquisition included Tag Heuer timepieces and De Beers diamond necklaces. The acquisition concluded on 4 October 2011 as Bulgari was delisted from the Borsa Italiana. I know all of us have our cellphones and examine mirrors via our digicam on our cellphone, however a mirror in your bag is far more seamless and feels more classic and intimate. A modern, neon twist on the classic Serpenti shoulder bag, this turquoise and pink quantity is as youthful as it is vibrant. phoenet.tw bvlgari replica The concentric panels of shiny blue leather-based actually make this stand out, and whereas the stitching and panels do give it construction the block colour actually overpowers that. Few bags embody the opulent magnificence and decadence that Bvlgari is known for quite as well as this prime deal with bag. Made of stunning Galuchat and calf leather, the contrast between the sleek leather-based of the bag and the textured closing flap is really gorgeous.

In the final month of my year off the internet—no email, no smartphone, no texting, no web browsing, no social media, no Pasta Grannies YouTube binges—I decided to write a song every day, a sort of aural brain scan at the end of this experiment. My new album, Magnificent Bird, which arrives via Nonesuch Records on March 25 and is now available for pre-order, brings together ten of those songs, recorded at home, with the remote help of a dozen(ish) of my dearest colleagues: Sam Amidon, Andrew Bird, Gabriel Cabezas, Casey Foubert, Nathalie Joachim, Paul Kowert, Anthony McGill, Amelia Meath, Chris Morrissey, Ted Poor, Chris Thile, Caroline Shaw, Alex Sopp, Holcombe Waller, Elizabeth Ziman, and last but not least, Joseph Lorge, who both mixed the record and kept me from losing my mind while we were making it.
Tumblr media
The paradox isn’t lost on me: a batch of songs written in self-imposed isolation, brought into the world with the help of friends whose contributions were made possible through the very technology I’d shunned. The truth is that after the often hermetic experience of living extremely offline (the last eight months of my tech sabbatical coincided with the onset of the pandemic), I just wanted an excuse to get in touch with my friends. In that sense, this album is very much an expression of community. And it’s also, in its way, a companion piece to—or an extension of—Book of Travelers, which also grew out of time spent away from the internet.
Today, you can hear the first single from the album, a song called “Sit Shiva,” whose title comes from the Jewish ritual of mourning. I’ll leave it at that.
Why, you might be wondering, did I quit the internet? For me, there’s this fallacy of technological inevitability, of techno-fatalism: the notion that the march of technological progress is ineluctable. For years, I bitched about how awful Twitter was, on Twitter. I couldn’t find the exit, in part, because of that sense of technological inevitability.
Too often, I think, we adopt these machines and new bits of software without asking whether they improve our lives, without asking whose interests they serve. At the same time, our devices reinforce the fiction that convenience and efficiency have intrinsic value. That fiction serves not us, but the tech barons who profit from our addiction to ease, to frictionlessness, to instant gratification. That addiction, in turn, has implications with respect to climate crisis, to inequality, to our (in)ability to see ourselves in each other, to build the kinds of coalitions necessary to make a more just world. And so, I wanted to leave it all behind not as a further expression of techno-pessimism, but in search of a positive alternative.
Oh, right, this is supposed to be a marketing email! Magnificent Bird comes out, as I said before, on March 25th. It’s my second album for Nonesuch Records, and I’m so grateful to them for their continued commitment to my work. You can pre-order the record through Bandcamp or Nonesuch; pre-orders via either of those platforms will include a signed (by me) print featuring John Gall’s gorgeous artwork, while supplies last.

The Courting Ways of Wolves (Part 4)
Dumb Boys! I love them!
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 (here) Part 5 Epilogue
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Almost a month after the silver dawn they passed through a lively little river town. It wasn’t so big a city that Geralt’s senses were completely overwhelmed, but also large enough that Jaskier had good, hearty crowds every night. The nature of river towns like this meant that boats stopped through all the time, shipping goods up and down river, so sailors stopped in taverns and moved along. Every night was a fresh crowd.
Geralt decided that they’d stay in the town for a week. Rivers meant plenty of contracts too, drowners and such. There was also a decent shopping district what with all the merchants, and he wanted to tackle Number Five from his courting list.
Give Jaskier Gifts (non dead ones).
It was going to be easy.
Thirty minutes later, it was not easy.
“Ooh I’ll come shopping too,” Jaskier said, rummaging through his bag in their room in the inn. “I need a new notebook.”
Geralt panicked a little bit. He wanted to get Jaskier a new notebook, and he didn’t have much idea for other gifts. Then an idea struck.
“Why don’t you and I look around, then after your performance tonight you’ll have more to spend.”
“Good idea Geralt, and who knows, if it goes well maybe I could get us a room with two beds instead of one.”
Damn.
Jaskier linked his arm with Geralt’s and swanned off down the stairs, leaving Geralt to either follow or have his arm dislocated at the shoulder.
“Pardon me,” Jaskier waved down the grumpy looking innkeeper. She walked over scowling, small toddler on her hip.
“Perhaps later, after I’ve performed in your fine establishment,” Jaskier asked. “We might discuss changing us to a room with two beds?”
She looked at Jaskier. She looked at Geralt, who had paid for their current room with a grunted ‘that’s fine’ when she’d said it had one bed. She looked at their linked arms.
“Too many sailors coming in off the river this time ‘o year,” she said brusquely. “We can talk but ye’d be better off counting on the one you’ve got.”
Jaskier shrugged good naturedly. “Then keep it we shall, my dear lady.” She wasn’t listening, calling out instead to a child, about eight of indeterminate gender.
“Toos, whatever’s in your mouth had better not be for guests.” The child, laughing maniacally around a mouthful of something raced out the back door of the inn, only to be scooped up by his father, a broad, heavy man with a jolly face.
They left the family to their domesticity and ventured out into the merchant district. There was more going on than Geralt preferred, his senses blurring as he tried to be on a swivel to protect against any potential dangers. None appeared though, and he allowed his senses to narrow to the warmth of Jaskier’s arm in his.
Jaskier pulled them over to a potter’s shop. Tiny vases and bottles adorned shelves. There were bigger pieces too, some done in gorgeous colors and outrageous designs, but the little bottles captured Jaskier’s eye.
“Look Geralt, I could keep perfumes in these.”
“You have perfume bottles.”
“Oh I know, but the colors are pretty,” Jaskier said, smiling at the potter and pulling Geralt along.
Leather goods. Very fine work, too, Geralt thought. It was next to a paper goods and bookbinding shop, and the two had obviously done some kind of trade. On a display table between the two stalls sat leather bound books of all sizes and kinds. Jaskier poured over them, exclaiming and running feather light fingers over textured leather bindings. Jaskier sighed longingly and went into the bookbinding stall to see the less expensive journal options.
All of Jaskier’s past journals had been a sort of card cover. They didn’t last well, although Jaskier tore through them so quickly it didn’t matter. Geralt looked at the leather books here, his eye catching on a large, sturdy one in brown leather. It looked good for the road, with a braided leather tie to keep it shut.
He glanced up, but Jaskier was still admiring the paper goods.
What had really been caught by the centerpiece book. It was a mammoth thing, thick and beautifully made in a deep, wine red leather. There were little brass clasps on the side, buffed up to look like gold. In a fairy tale, it would be the master enchanter’s spellbook. A tome.
Jaskier deserved a tome. He’d written so many songs and poems, and he’d mentioned once or twice that he ought to write it all down in one book. This should be the book. Geralt could just picture Jaskier in the library of Kaer Morhen, with the snow coming down outside and ink on his fingertips, carefully transcribing his work.
It was like with the silver dawn, Geralt could see it so clearly, his little family would all be in the library. Ciri and Geralt and Jaskier all together again.
Next to the big red book was a little journal, made of the same color of leather. It had a little shiny brass lock with a tiny key tied on a string. A diary fit for a princess.
He had a plan.
He went into the leather stall and asked about their repair prices, haggled a little, then said he’d be back with his order that evening. Jaskier walked back into the leather goods stall and smiled up at him. Parts of Geralt’s chest went all tingly and golden.
They browsed the other stalls, spending the most time at a metalsmith’s stall. Geralt was impressed with the weapon quality. Jaskier admired the jewelry, trying on various pretty, delicate rings and holding them up in the light.
Geralt watched the way he interacted with people.
When Jaskier had first joined him, he’d thought it was all an act, that Jaskier couldn’t possibly like so many people. He did though, and they loved him for it. From the outside it was clearer to Geralt why. Jaskier was polite of course, and complimentary of the workmanship, but instead of dealing in vauge descriptions, he complimented details. He found and complimented something extraordinary about each piece, drawing conversation from the stall owner’s wife, who apparently did the jewelry part of things. He complimented the delicate artistry of a slim ring, then the clever design of a bracelet catch, asking with truly genuine curiosity about each.
Shopkeepers love curiosity, and anyone would love to have their skill complimented so honestly. Geralt felt himself smiling as he watched.
“Good lad you’ve got there,” the weaponsmith said. “Husband?” Geralt turned to him.
“Not yet,” he said. Then his shoulders slumped a little. “Not even officially a sweetheart yet.”
The burly smith chuckled. “I know that story, you think it was easy for me to woo that goddess there?”
Geralt looked over at the jewelry maker, still locked in conversation with Jaskier. She was middle aged, but beauty doesn’t fade with age as quickly as mortals seemed to think. She was indeed a great beauty. To judge by the way she gestured avidly while speaking, she was also a passionate and firey one too.
“I’m not much for romance,” the smith said, drawing Geralt’s attention back. “But your lad there is yours, heart and soul, you just need the proper instruments to tell him you’re his as well.”
“How did you woo your lady?” Geralt asked.
The smith chuckled again. “I was a much younger man then, but I stood about without a shirt in my smithy and busily hammered and flexed every time she came by.”
Geralt brightened, showing off his muscles was something he could do. “Did it work?”
“Not even a little. She was completely unimpressed.”
Oh. And Jaskier had seen Geralt’s muscles before too.
“So I went to her house one evening,” the smith continued, a glimmer of memory in his eye. “I’d worked for weeks to make her something as lovely as she was. Of course, I wasn’t so good a smith then either, but I’d tired. It was a braided metal band, to push back her hair, she’s wearing it now. Worn it almost every day since, including our wedding day.”
Geralt looked over. Silver and gold did indeed push back her curly hair. With her aquiline nose she looked like a woodcut of some goddess he’d seen once.
“And then I did the hard part,” said the smith. Geralt looked to him. “I talked to her, really spoke with her and told her how I admired her, not just for her beauty. Then she invited me in out of the rain and made me tea.”
Damn. Geralt wasn’t good at talking but he really would need to, it seemed.
“More than fourty years of marriage now,” the smith said.
“I can’t make him something as beautiful as he is,” Geralt said. A potion just wouldn’t work.
“I think any gift to show you care would work,” the smith said.
Geralt looked around at the weapons on display, and the smith went back to shining some of his work. There was a dagger on display.
Jaskier had daggers, and he worked with them well, but this one was beautiful.
“May I?” he said, and the smith gestured obligingly.
It was obviously a piece of combined work between the smith and his wife. It was well made and balanced, but very slim, perfect for slipping up a sleeve or into a boot. It was also a piece of artwork, both the hilt and sheath inlaid with mother of pearl and a mirror-shiny black stone, with silver threads surrounding. The pearl wound about the hilt in a pattern of perfect vines, shining in the black. The sheath was a night sky, a curving crescent moon, fantasy thin, hung in a black sky, lit all around with tiny pearl stars inlaid with painstaking care. The tip of the sheath was sliverwork with more of the pearl, more vines.
“The blade is silver,” Geralt noted.
“Yes,” the smith clearly approved of Geralt’s eye. “Moon silver, never tarnishes, never goes dull.”
Geralt was going to buy it for Jaskier. It was a cerainty. It was probably Destiny. She may be a bitch but maybe she’d decided to help him on this one. The price was extravagant, of course, and Geralt wouldn’t haggle a penny, not for artistry such as that. Moon silver was wildly difficult to work, too. Magic like that made for difficult smithing.
Geralt locked eyes with the smith, who’s mustache-which even Vesemir would have been jealous of-twitched in the direction of Jaskier. He and the jewelry maker were coming over.
“I’ll wrap this shall I?” asked the smith in a whisper.
Geralt gave a hint of a nod. “I’ll be back for it later,” he said, matching the volume.
“Geralt,” Jaskier exclaimed, throwing an arm around his shoulders. “Let us trouble these good people no longer, at least until I return to clean out this fine lady’s entire stock, I can hear my audience call me.”
It was indeed almost supper time, and they bid their goodbyes to the couple. By the time they got back to the inn, the bar room on the first floor was full. The atmosphere was cheerful in the room, helped along by both the proprietors busily filling tankards of ale and bowls of hot stew. Jaskier ordered two of each for the pair of them.
Somehow he always got served first at a bar. Geralt wasn’t complaining, and the stew was hot and good, with chicken and potatoes and herbs. Geralt and Jaskier both slurped it down. Jaskier slammed his ale too, disappearing up the stairs to their room with a wink.
Geralt knew Jaskier’s pre-performance routine well, and stayed down at their table to give him room. A teen with a face full of pimples picked up the bowls and spoons, as well as Jaskier’s tankard. He looked skittish to Geralt, so he didn’t nod for fear of scaring the lad. Thus far everyone had been fairly kind, Geralt didn’t want to ruin that.
He sat back and sipped his ale appreciatively. Bartending was an art in itself and not a well known one. Geralt had been in too many pubs where bartenders didn’t take proper care, but this one had. He probably put cloth over the barrells over night in this damp weather.
Jaskier clattered down the stairs, lute strung and tuned, and Geralt stood. He’d stay for at least the first few songs, but there were more patrons pouring in and he’d move from the table to a seat at the bar to leave room.
A song and a half into Jaskier’s set he realized his mistake. Jaskier could see him, and often locked eyes on him while singing to send a wink or just a friendly glance. He didn’t have a chance to slip away. Of course, he could leave anyway, but it just felt wrong to have Jaskier watch him leave.
“Now I know,” said a sharp voice from the bar, “that our barstools don’t have splinters, so what’s gotten in to you.” It was the bartender’s wife, the one who tended the rooms upstairs. She was still glowering, but without the child on her hip this time.
“I’ve got errands to run,” Geralt muttered, not fond of sharing his business.
“Pf.” She said. “Just like a man to leave all the errands to the last minute. And you want to sneak out without him noticing for a bit.” It wasn’t a question. Geralt nodded.
“Your lad there’s pretty good, makin’ us money, so I’ll do you a favor,” she looked at him sharply. “When I say go you go, and I’ll thank you to tell your sweetheart you care for him before he goes and tries to buy two beds next time.” She sniffed. “Save you both trouble in the long run.”
She cleaned a spilled spot on the bar and let out a short whistle.
Geralt felt like he’d been hit over the head with a mallet.
In response to the whistle, the child from that morning appeared, Toos, Geralt remembered. The innkeeper gave the kid a penny, “Go ask for that song you like, then hurry back now.” Toos gave a gap toothed grin and dissappeared as quickly as they’d come.
Geralt watched the disturbance at about knee level through the crowd as Toos fought their way through. Jaskier, basking in the applause noticed them immediately and listened carefully to the request, smiling widely at the audience and biting the proffered penny as if it were a gold coin to huge laughter.
The innkeeper snapped her fingers under Geralt’s nose and pointed to the door. He took the cue.
The market was less bustling, but still open, and Geralt took in a breath of cool, evening air. Then he assessed his plan.
He wanted to buy Jaskier lots of gifts over the course of this year, and he surely would, but they would be small things mostly. Quills and ink and lutepicks, that sort of thing. Those could be found in smaller towns and villages, but craft work like he found here was hard to find along the Path. He could buy either the red book or the dagger right now, and with the contracts he’d do this week he’d pay for the other. He’d buy the practical, brown leather book regardless, because right now Jaskier needed a journal and not a tome.
He decided on the dagger first. The smith had shared good advice, and, if someone were to buy the leather tome from the display, there was at least a chance Geralt could find one like it elsewhere. Where but here could he find a moonsilver dagger for Jaskier?
The smith was not surprised to see Geralt, and his wife sent him a friendly wink. Geralt bought the dagger and thanked the smith, complimenting both he and his wife on the work. Then he carried his package, wrapped in two layers, cloth and paper, out into the street.
He dropped a bit of tack off at the leather worker’s shop for repair, to pick it up in two days. Then he took the sensible brown leather journal from the display stand.
The bookbinder and paper merchant was a bent old man, sitting on a stool at the back of the shop, chewing tobacco. There was a greasy twist of it, black as tar, in waxed paper on the counter.
“Excuse me,” Geralt said. The shopkeeper looked up, jaw still working. “We don’t like your kind here,” he said in a voice that cracked like the paper he worked. Well. There it was, there was always someone.
“Please,” he said. “It’s a gift for a-a friend. It’s very important.”
The old shop keeper eyed him and the book in his hand. Then he obviously decided that making a sale was worth serving Geralt. He growled out a price, and Geralt didn’t haggle.
Geralt stood there, the old man staring him down while counting the coins. He figured it was worth a shot.
“Could I ask a favor?”
“No.”
“Could you keep the journal on your display table, the large red one, back for me? And the little one in the same color beside it? Only for a few more days.”
“No.”
“Please,” Geralt said, losing hope. “It’s for a good cause.”
The man spat tobacco juice into a can with disgusting accuracy. “What cause do monsters have, comin’ in here and asking favors of me?”
Geralt caught the man’s watery eyes. “Love, true love, please, keep them back just a few days?”
“Didn’t think monsters could feel,” scoffed the man, but he tilted his head. “You mean that nice young man, what came in with you earlier?”
“That’s the one, I want to give him the perfect gift.”
The man scoffed again, but it was less cruel. “I can tell people they’re for display. You’ve got three days.”
Geralt let out a relieved breath. “Thank you,” he said. “Thank you very much.”
“Don’t thank me,” growled the man, cutting off another piece of tobacco with a knife. “And don’t darken my door until you have the money.”
Geralt left, feeling very light. He reentered the inn to a round of applause for Jaskier, but thankfully no one looking his way. He slipped up the stairs.
The dagger wasn’t a gift for tonight, he decided. That was a grand gift, for sometime special. He put it in his potion bag, where Jaskier was forbidden to look, for fear he’d get into something deadly. The journal was laid on the bed, just where Jaskier would see it.
Then Geralt went back downstairs to catch the last of Jaskier’s set.
Jaskier practically danced up to Geralt afterwards. He was full of that strange energy he always had after a good performance, like bubbles in champagne. Geralt could feel the muscles around his eyes soften.
“I liked your last song,” he said. Number Three on The List, compliment him.
“Paddy Lay Back?” Jaskier said. “You’ve heard it before.”
“Yes,” Geralt said as they went upstairs. “I like it.”
Jaskier beamed.
He chattered about the performance all the way into their room, and managed to pull off his boots before noticing the journal on the bed. He stopped mid sentence.
He looked at the journal, then at Geralt, mouth still half open.
Geralt remembered the smith, talking about how he’d won his wife over, but his mouth felt stuffed with wool.
“It’s for you,” he managed. “For your songs. It’ll last longer than the card bound ones.”
Jaskier picked it up, rubbing his thumb across the smooth leather, then he turned to Geralt. His eyes were shining.
With a speed that even Geralt’s mutated reflexes couldn’t manage, he was enveloped in a hug. Jaskier had his arms around his neck, the journal still in hand.
Geralt hesitated.
Then he wrapped his arms around Jaskier’s chest and held him.
Later that night, in the same bed as a snoring bard, he still felt the heat of that hug. Jaskier’s elbow dug into his ribs and he barely felt it, but the hug was still there. He thought of the dagger in his potions bag.
He’d talk to Jaskier then, giving that to him. For now, he’d have time to plan what to say. Before he could try, however, sleep claimed him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gifts! Gifts for Jaskier! and a hint of things to come. I had fun with this.

[S] Cascade After the Death of Flash
Most of us familiar with Homestuck are familiar with [S] Cascade. This seminal flash animation concludes Homestuck’s fifth act and is still considered by many fans the most important, climactic animation in the comic (even ahead of its successors [S] GAME OVER and [S] Collide).
Many of us may also be familiar with the extraordinary circumstances of the animation’s release. A user called Vivi on the now-defunct MSPA Forums made a commemorative comic documenting the occasion, which, to my view, really captures the essence of the release-mythos. In short: On October 25th, 2011, Homestuck updated after a year-long hiatus with a thirteen-minute flash called [S] Cascade. As fans raced to watch it, the influx of pageviews crashed Newgrounds, the site where the flash was hosted. Hussie temporarily uploaded the flash to megaupload.com. Megaupload.com crashed. The Homestuck website crashed; the Homestuck forum crashed; livestream.com crashed as fans who had “gotten in” tried to stream the video; and, finally, the Homestuck fandom crashed Twitter. [1]
Today, it is hard to imagine Homestuck fans crashing Twitter. Back in 2011, Twitter was a lot smaller, and Homestuck was a lot bigger. But it wasn’t just the long year of building anticipation and the mad scramble to watch the flash which cemented [S] Cascade as one of Homestuck’s most iconic pages. The Flash itself is aesthetically ambitious beyond any previous flash in the comic [2]. Not only does it combine detailed illustrations contributed by fan collaborators with an absolutely fire soundtrack; it manipulates the traditional Homestuck “panel” in a completely unique way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Among the various stunning moments in the flash, I find Bec Noir’s dramatic release of the red miles one of the most memorable. The YouTuber Precision F-Strike captures my same reaction when I watched [S] Cascade for the first time in this video around 1:20, exclaiming: “My screen is getting bigger! My screen is getting bigger!!” What made this “expanding panel” trick so dazzling upon my first watch? The release of the red miles marks the first instance in which [S] Cascade modifies the traditional size of the Homestuck panel. By no means does it mark the first time the comic as a whole has deviated from its own standard panel size; elongated panels, multiple panels, and links-to-panels have all been regular features of the comic up to this point. However, [S] Cascade is the first page to modify the panel size during a Flash sequence, changing in motion. This novelty, combined with the surprise of the effect, sets the reader up to expect a flash of epic proportions—and [S] Cascade delivers.
Tumblr media
After expanding for the red miles, the panel never quite shrinks down to its original size. For the rest of the animation, the plot unfolds within an extended panel-space ripe for dramatic exploitation. At 2:53 the panel shrinks back down to show Bec Noir’s journey to post-reckoning earth, then grows again to get back into the action. At 4:22 it shrinks and breaks into multiple panels to illustrate Bec Noir wreaking destruction in the troll’s session. The proliferation of these moving rectangles mimics a film reel, reminding us that we have technically already seen these events, but underscoring their importance as a conglomeration of memories for the trolls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Transitioning to the human sessions’ Derse at 4:38, the panel blows up again to its traditional size and adopts an exterior “wallpaper.” This “wallpaper”, as I’ll call it, shifts with the content of the Flash for the next few minutes. It shows the exterior of Derse as Rose and Dave fly through, then it takes on the red and yellow colors of the quest beds; the black and white colors of The Tumor; the red and blue colors of the “mass of two universes” device; and finally the fleur-de-lis pattern of the Felt mansion. During the sequence between Sn0wman and Slick, at 6:08 Slick’s bullet actually pushes out the corner of the traditional frame, extending it back into the full extended-panel space. Then again, during the climactic moment at 10:02, panels grow and shrink and replace others, flashing in time with the soundtrack, drawing the plotlines together and anticipating the finger-frame with which Jade creates the Fenestrated Plane. The animation finishes with John and Jade busting through the Fenestrated Plane, which cycles through the comic’s own panels, culminating the meta-referential panel distortion with this final act of “escaping” from and through the Homestuck panels themselves.
Tumblr media
As a result of the extended panel-space established at the release of the red miles, we get to experience the majority of [S] Cascade’s action (and gorgeous artwork) on an enlarged canvas. Just as we go to the cinema to see movies on the “big screen,” Homestuck deploys its own big screen at the start of the flash. Then, all the growing and shrinking between segments contributes to the narrative flow of the flash. The “shrunk” portions leave room for the panel to blow up again once the next climax comes. I think the “wallpaper” effect employed mid-flash is especially effective, as it allows Hussie to continue utilizing the extended panel-space while keeping the frame small in advance of the Sn0wman’s death, at which point it expands again. It’s also important to note how Hussie manipulates our other preconceived expectations, aside from panel size, to enhance the animation’s drama. The website itself gets a special [S] Cascade color scheme and header. In the unfamiliar layout of this Cascade-ified website, readers prepare themselves for the best and the worst—then their expectations are thrown off balance again, for good measure, with the expansion of the panel and the big-screen execution of the flash. With all of this in mind, it’s easy to see how [S] Cascade generated such a massive response.
As you may be aware, as of January 2021 Adobe has discontinued its support for Flash Player, with all major web browsers following suit. This means it’s near impossible to run flash content on any normal computer, and it won’t be long before flash only exists in archival projects. Luckily, the new denizens of the Homestuck website have worked to keep all of the story intact despite the changing media landscape, with some interactive flash pages broken down into videos or screencaps and animations converted to embedded YouTube videos [3]. If you are interested in experiencing Homestuck’s flash content as originally released, a fantastic project called the Unofficial Homestuck Collection has worked to archive the entire comic in a custom browser which natively runs Flash (all you need is 4GB of space on your computer and some time for the assets to download). This archive has been invaluable for my art historical investigation into the comic [4].
Tumblr media
As it stands, though—unless forced by a concerned friend to download The Unofficial Homestuck Collection browser—new readers to Homestuck can’t experience the Flash games and animations in their original format. The same goes for folks rereading the comic. In the case of [S] Cascade, significant losses must be mourned. The effect set off by the red miles (the surprise and novelty of your “screen getting bigger”) is hampered by the embedded YouTube format. When you open the [S] Cascade page, now, it presents you with a mid-flash thumbnail, a YouTube play button, and YouTube framing elements such as a watermark and title (pictured above). You can’t avoid already seeing the extended panel-space of the flash page with this new format. Even though the panels within the embed begin in their “shrunk” state and grow to fill out the video frame, the expansion can never be a surprise to the same degree it was in the original Flash format. Flash animations were unornamented by watermarks, titles, and scrubber bars. They were so indistinguishable from regular static panels and gifs in terms of size, image quality, and framing that this gag (pictured below) actually worked. The indistinguishable quality of flash animations from regular gif panels created the necessary environment for [S] Cascade to surprise us by suddenly growing and filling the screen. That drama is inevitably lost in the flash’s new format.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, the YouTube format presents some obvious benefits for readers. For one thing, you can now scrub back and forth in the animation, pause it, and even see its timestamps. This is beneficial to any reader who wants to revisit key moments and enormously helpful for someone like me analyzing the animation in detail. I would argue that the inability to pause the animation in its original format contributed to its monumental quality—readers couldn’t pause to breathe, and the comic took merciless control over the pacing—but of course the inability to pause something is also terribly inconvenient. Furthermore, the video format solves an issue that plagued Homestuck readers (including myself) throughout the comic’s lifetime: it’s inaccessibility on mobile devices. Adobe Flash famously failed to transition into the world of mobile touch-screens after Steve Jobs decided not to support it on the iPhone, writing a letter denouncing the software for its errors [5]. With Flash no longer functioning, the reformatted pages in Homestuck are all compatible with mobile devices, meaning readers can now enjoy the comic while lying sideways in bed like we always dreamed. Among other considerations, Adobe Flash was a complete pain to work with [6] for many large-scale projects, and its technical limitations cannot be ignored. On the whole, the death of Flash speaks to a greater evolution in our 21st century media sphere—the growing importance of mobile browsing, the shift from web-hosted games to apps and game launchers, and the increasing “convergence” of platforms into all-purpose devices. While much of Homestuck’s impact and charm resulted from its innovative use of Flash, like the example I’ve given in [S] Cascade, the unique bubble of history in which Flash existed should be fondly remembered and effectively preserved as we continue to navigate the comic’s legacy.

[1] I unfortunately can’t say I was around for the original [S] Cascade release (I started reading the comic about two years too late). However, even during the Gigapause, what I’ve called its “release mythos” was still widely retold. The events themselves are documented here: https://fanlore.org/wiki/Cascade_(Homestuck). Thank you to @imploder for having saved Vivi’s comic on tumblr!
[2] Hussie wrote about the making of [S] Cascade on his tumblr, now archived here: https://wheals.github.io/tumblr/tumblr.html#about-eoa5-part-1. This gives some insight into the massive undertaking. Previously, the longest animation in Homestuck was [S] Descend, an animation which Hussie calls “Cascade Lite” in his author commentary in Homestuck Book 3. [S] Descend was the first animation to significantly incorporate multiple plotlines moving along at once. Hussie describes this narrative style as an “action-collage” (also in the Book 3 commentary). [S] Descend was also (to my recollection) the first time Hussie significantly incorporated assets from contributing artists into an animation, which he explained was partially to keep the production moving faster. Ironically, during the production of [S] Cascade, organizing contributors turned out to be much more of a hassle—but ultimately Hussie deems the myriad of captivating art styles “a big plus” in his post.
[3] Although some are completely broken, now :(. RIP silly flute refrain.
[4] I seriously cannot overstate how grateful I am for this project.
[5] This article does a great job of explaining the history of Adobe Flash and its eventual demise.
[6] Hussie goes over some of the issues he had with the software in the post referenced at [2]

I know I do not have youtube, but I do love this tag, so I shall deliver this to you through the magic of word.
I have read so many books this year (manga, graphic novels, big books, small books, picture books, there is very few genres left for me to get to here, except those alien sex books people keep talking about, not for me, I think but go you Love, if you're into that!).
Time for some questions!
The Best Book So Far You've read in 2021?
I am torn between 'The Only Plane In The Sky' which is one of the most harrowing books I've ever read and made me realise I want to read more books told in this form, or 'Priory Of The Orange Tree'. Did that book size scare me? Yes! Am I glad I got over it and read that bad boy? Heck yes, if you love fantasy read that book.
Best Sequel You've Read So Far?
I loved 'Muse Of Nightmares' and can't believe I took so long to get round to reading it, but. 'Act Your Age, Eve Brown' is a sequel and let me tell you I think by far I think about this book and the characters and imagine them in that Bed And Breakfast being absolutely adorable at least once a week and that is a testament to Talia Hibbert's talent for incredibly genuine characters.
New Release You Haven't Read But You Want to?
I am torn between many, 'Blackout' is an anthology of black writers about a electric cut out in New York and different stories set in that, and that, that is literary vibe. 'Dial A For Aunties' definitely needs a mention and 'Unravel The Dusk' is pretty new, the sequel to 'Spin The Dawn' which was such an incredible read.
Most Anticipated Release for the second half of the year?
There's a book coming out next month called 'The Taking of Jake Livingston' by Ryan Douglass which is described as a combination of 'Get Out' meets Danielle Vega - it's a YA horror survival book and I have had this on my radar for a bit. I am anticipating this book the most to be honest.
The Most Disappointing Book?
The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley. Never again.
Biggest Surprise of 2021?
I've added two books to my all time favourite books this year, books that go beyond five stars for me, and they are 'The Prince And The Dressmaker' by Jen Wang and 'Convenience Store Woman' by Sayaka Murata. Completely different, but both surprisingly incredible stories and just hit me in a way that few books have ever done, I love them both.
New favourite author?
Elizabeth Lim. This author is just delivering the incredible books each time. 'Spin The Dawn' is so good, brilliant and original fantasy that I just fell into with such ease, it was like the literary version of a warm bath. And then I got lucky enough to get an ARC of 'Six Crimson Cranes' and that books is elegance in book form. I will read whatever she writes now.
Newest Fictional Crush?
Torn between Ead from 'Priory..' and Takkan from 'Six Crimson Cranes'.
Newest favourite character?
Zhu Yuanzhang from 'She Who Became The Sun'. A just incredible book and the character, amazing, out of this world, brilliant, genius..
Book That Made You Cry.
The Priory Of The Orange Tree. So few books break my emotional barriers, but that book, I was invested. There's 800 pages of character development here, you're going to cry.
Most Beautiful Book I've bought this year?
I got it from the library, and it's on my TBR right now, but I think it's probably 'Where The River Runs Gold' by Sita Brahmachari. The script, the artwork of the cover, it's gorgeous.
What books do you need to read before the end of the year?
Well, none, but I'd like to shorten my owned TBR on goodreads. There are currently eleven books that I own and not read on it and I would like to shimmy some of them off that list. Particularly 'Vengeful' and 'The Raven Boys'.
Favourite Book Community Members?
You guys of course. So many followers. It's thanks to you, I get to get ARCs of new books and they send me copies, it's thanks to you, I keep reading and want to share my thoughts and it's thanks to you I keep myself accountable with my mental health. I appreciate you.
Youtube wise, Book Browsing blog, booksandlala, spoopyhol, uncarley and Jack Edwards mostly.
Let me know what your favourite books are so far this year!
Vee xo.

Where to Get Witchy Supplies (part 1)
Hey guys! So this post is going to be another masterpost type with some info added. This is just a guide on where I get my witchcraft and wicca supplies on a budget! I know practicing in college or high school can be difficult when it feels like you have to have the BEST and PRETTIEST tools, supplies, etc, but it doesn’t have to be that way! This post is the first part to a two (maybe three) part series, and I will be posting the next part tomorrow!
So before we get into this list, I want to say that being a witch/wiccan/pagan or whatever you identify as does not mean you have to have the prettiest supplies. Really, the only thing that matters is if your tools function and that you connect with them! I also want to mention that some of these items are going to be on the ‘splurge’ side, but the majority are pretty cheap so you can save up for those pricier items! Let’s get into it babes!
Herbs
A big way to save on herbs is to avoid your grocery store most of the time. Of course you can compare prices between the sites I list below (which I tend to do for anything I buy so I can get the best deal!) These are a few of my favorite online places to buy herbs!
✴ Magical Omaha: this site has a TON of different supplies that you can buy online. My favorite section happens to be their herbs section. They also have bee pollen and beeswax beads in this section! They sell their herbs by the ounce, and every order I have placed has been perfect. They have $5 flat rate shipping that I believe is for all across America!
✴ 13 Moons: this site is a little pricier than Magical Omaha, and I am not too sure on their shipping (I believe it was around 5 dollars for me!) but they have a few more options than Magical Omaha. They have resins, more root options, and a few more herbs than Magical Omaha that I could see from browsing. They also have herbal sets and bundles, which Magical Omaha does not have.
✴ Mountain Rose Herbs: I am pretty sure this site is more catered towards alternative medicine or wellness. However, I have heard good things about the quality of their products, so I am adding it to the list!
Incense / Cleansing
So I do not have a lot of experience with buying incense as my apartment complex does not allow it, but I did a bit of research to find a couple cheap options for you guys!
✴ five below: This is a newer store (at least where I’m from) and while they are more of a bargain store, they do have a few options for incense and essential oils! One of the best deals I saw on their site was 20 incense sticks for 2 dollars! Definitely perfect for the witch on a budget. They also have free shipping on orders over 35 dollars!
✴ Incense Warehouse: This site has ENDLESS options for incense, sage, smudge sticks, really anything you can burn! If you can think it, you can find it!
Crystals
I personally rarely buy my crystals online (and when I do, I tend to go to Etsy), but there are a lot of options to do so! I will link a few below! However, for the most cost efficient way to buy crystals, I would definitely research any metaphysical stores in your area. That way, you will be able to make sure your crystals are in perfect shape and you are able to be sure you will connect with them. Also, always cleanse your crystals after you receive/buy them. You don’t know whose energy has been absorbed by them!
✴ Bliss Crystals: this Etsy is chalk full of crystals of all shapes and sizes! The prices are also extremely reasonable compared to many different stores I have browsed. Also, you receive free shipping on orders $35 and up!
✴ CrystalsnCreations: Elica has a wide variety of crystal kits and decorations! She also has a few ‘mystery’ kits where she intuitively chooses your crystals for you! You can also create your own crystal set. Her pricing is also very good, and I am pretty sure every order comes with free shipping!
✴ The Spirit Nectar (Canada): this shop has SO many crystals to choose from! They are organized by size and shape for ease. They also sell home decorations and some pretty cool artwork as well! There are quite a few items with free shipping to the US, and I’m pretty sure to Canada (I may be mistaken on the Canada bit).
✴ Your Crystal Shop: another shop with so many options. They mainly specialize in jewelry/pendants, but around 1000 items are currently under their sale section!
✴ Mandala Gems: I have only heard good things about this shop, and looking at their website just gives me a good feeling! SO MANY BIG CRYSTALS! They also have a clearance crystal section and a sale section!
Athames and Bolines
So for a witch on a budget, I honestly think that these are the hardest things to come by. An athame is a ritual knife that generally has a dark handle, is traditionally double sided (check your local knife laws!) and is not used for literal cutting (just ‘cutting’ energy or directing it). A boline is another ritual knife, but it is used for cutting or carving different things at your altar. It traditionally has a lighter handle, and can be a crescent moon blade, a small scythe, or even a pair of scissors! Something to always remember is if something does its job and you use it in your practice, then it is a proper tool!
There are so many options on Etsy for athames, and I have even run into a few interesting knives that could work as athames at vintage stores and art stores! You could even use a letter opener. Here are a few affordable options for athames!
✴ Botanical Resin Athame
✴ Hecate Athame
✴ Pewter Celestial Athame
✴ Adder Athame
✴ Personalized Leaf Letter Opener
✴ These Gorgeous Letter Openers
Etsy (can you tell I LOVE ETSY for all things witchy??) also has a great selection for Bolines! I personally use scissors or a carving knife as my boline, depending on what needs to be cut, but I’ll list some “traditional” bolines for you!
✴ Reaver Boline
✴ Moon Crescent Boline
✴ Druid Boline
✴ These Bolines and Athames from allwicca.com
Wands
Your wand is one of your most powerful tools. It helps you direct energy and focus your intentions in any ritual or spell. While you can buy a wand that you feel drawn to, I personally love making my own! I have made two in the past. So for this little list, I will be linking a few pre-made wand options, and a few tutorials on how to make your own wand! The lovely part about making your own wand is it is super cost effective and really, you probably only need to buy 1 or two things (a small crystal you would like to use and any carving tools you need). In the future, I will probably make a tutorial on how I make my wands!
Make your own wand!
✴ Tutorial 1
✴ My Tutorial! (will link when posted)
A few beautiful wands I found
✴ Handmade Maple Walnut Wand
✴ Quartz and Wood Wand (look through her Etsy for more!)
✴ Rough Selenite Wand (you can use completely crystal wands as well)
So babes, that’s about all for this part of the supply shopping post! In the next post, I will be adding more altar tools and possibly a few divination tools! If the divination tools do not fit into the next post, then I will be doing a third post about them!
Thank you so much for reading! If you have any questions, my ask is always open!

BTS as Students
Jungkook
Jungkook sat in front of you in almost every class you were taking. He also fell asleep in almost every class you were taking. It frustrated you to no end. Not only did he not pay attention, but he aced every exam and every paper, while you struggled along with the rest of the class. On this particular day he was slumped in his chair passed out as usual. Your professor was lecturing about some dead guy who wasn’t all that interesting. You were staring blankly at your book when all the sudden a mop of brown hair broke your trance. Jungkook had leaned back so far his head was now resting up on your desk in front of you. You scoffed annoyed at his antics. You looked down at his sleeping face ready to poke his stupid nose to wake him up, but you stopped when you saw his soft features. His partially parted lips, his deep breaths, his lightly closed eyes. You found yourself brushing his bangs out of his face and carding your fingers through his hair. He just looked so peaceful. You eventually lose interest in the lecture entirely and begin to see how many pens you could balance on his forehead without waking him up. It was adorable. Just as you were about to place the last of your pens on the tower you’ve created the lecture ends and his eyes flutter open. Sitting up about eight pens fell into lap. You sat back in your chair hand covering your mouth your cheeks burning. He begins to laugh and turns to you.
“These are yours i’m guessing.” He said placing the pens on your desk. “Maybe you’ll get higher next time.” He winked at you as he left the class.
Namjoon
You walked into your class and sat down at your spot in the front of the room. You began taking out your laptop and your study materials ready to focus for the next hour. Sat down next to you was Kim Namjoon, he was the smartest kid in class, well aside from you of course. He took out his notebook and pens. His notes looked like those notes you see on pinterest or tumblr. It was organized, color coded, and he had the neatest handwriting. The only difference between those notes and his were the song lyrics and poems that filled the edges of the pages. Bits and pieces of various works, some from well known works others original. You loved to steal his notes whenever you were absent from class in order to take a peek at his writing. He really did have a way with words. Today he had his hair pushed back revealing his forehead and dark rimmed glasses framed his face. He concentrated on the page in front of him jotting down his latest masterpiece in the margins. You hadn’t realized you were staring until he was waving a hand in front of your face.
“Y/n?” He said leaning his head down to meet your stare.
“What? Oh sorry must’ve spaced out.” You said shaking your head, a light dusting of pink on your cheeks.
“If you really want to hear my writing we should hang out after class.” He said smiling at you, dimples prominent. “Trust me they’re a lot better strung together.”
Jin
You walked into class just as the clock hit the hour, not a minute early or a minute late. Unfortunately most of the class had already got there and the only seat left was in the back. You sat down next a taller boy with wide shoulders. It looked like he was already browsing the web with his notes pushed to one side before the professor had even started talking. You settled in getting ready for the next hour to go by. The lecture was lackluster, your professor was very old and very boring. About half of the class was on their phones or Netflix part way in.
“Next we’ll be talking about exponential equations.” Your Professor said switching powerpoints.
“Exponential equations are a pain in my asymptote.” The boy next to you huffed. You couldn’t help but giggle at his pun. He smiled lightly at his computer screen. He opened up a second document and chose a large font big enough so you could see it. He began typing out the most ridiculous puns you had ever seen. Dad level bad. You couldn’t help but laugh, you held your hand over your mouth and hid your face behind your computer screen trying not to disrupt the class. The boy seemed to be just as amused at his own jokes.
My name’s Jin he typed out we should sit next to each other more often :)
Jimin
Front row right in front of the board, that was where I always sat. It wasn’t cause I was short or I had trouble seeing. No, no it definitely wasn’t that. My grades just couldn't be what they are if I was sitting back any farther. I took out my notebook like usual and opened it to where we left off. Sketches and doodles adorned the pages amongst poorly written notes and messy handwriting. The seat next to me always sat empty, always. It sat up against the wall and the professor’s computer setup was right in front of it. It was a very undesirable seat. It was almost impossible to see the whole board. The clock hit the hour and the professor began to get ready. Suddenly from the back of the class a girl walked in, she quickly walked up the front of the room and handed the professor a note. I had never seen her before. If I had I’d remember, she was gorgeous.
“Welcome to the class Miss y/n.” The professor looked around the classroom. “Jimin.” I looked up from my notes.
“Yes professor?”
“The seat next to you is usually vacant, y/n will be sitting next to you from now on. Please help her catch up with notes or anything else she may need.”
“O-okay.” I said. My pulse sped up and my hand felt a little sweaty. She took a seat next to me, I smiled at her.
“Sorry you got stuck with me, I hope you didn’t mind getting volunteered like that. I’m y/n.” She said apologetically.
“It’s alright, I don’t mind.” She took out her notebook which was covered in artwork. Much like the art that covered my own. “I think this will work out just fine.”
Taehyung
“Pleaseee tell me you watched the new episode last night.” Taehyung begged of you as you went to take your seat next to his.
“Tae, we had a ten page paper due today.” You rolled your eyes at him. “And you know your girl waited until last night to write it, so no I did not get to watch it.”
“Ehhh ten pages is nothing y/n. In fact I wrote it while watching.” He said clearly proud of himself.
“Well not all of us can multitask like you do.” You rolled your eyes at him.
“Well it’s a good thing you have me then cause your gonna watch it now whether you like it or not. Don’t worry I’ll take notes for the both of us.” He winked at you. Your cheeks turned a little pink at his gesture.
“Tae no offense but your notes never make sense to anyone but you.”
“Pleaseeeee.” He looked at you with puppy dog eyes.
“Fine, I’ll watch but you have to make your handwriting legible.” You caved, he was too cute for his own good.
“Deal!” He said already placing his laptop in front of you.
Yoongi
Gym class was the worst. Why you even had to take a gym class as a college student was beyond you. Sports were not your thing, the only hand eye coordination you had was with a gaming controller and even that was subpar. Today’s torture, basketball. Had you ever made a basket before? Nope. Was today gonna change that probably not. You opted to stay off to the side bouncing the ball to make it look like you were participating. You looked over at all the other kids in your class. One of them being Min Yoongi. He was a quiet kid kept mostly to himself except for a few close friends. Surprisingly he was doing really well playing against other students much taller than him. When class was over you decided to hang back for a moment, you weren’t sure why, but you stood in front of one of the baskets.
“What are you doing?” A voice came from behind you. You turned around startled. It was Yoongi. “I saw you during class today, standing by yourself, you looked like you didn’t even want to touch the ball.”
“I uh, sports really aren’t my thing.” You looked at your feet.
“You want me to show you how?”
“What?” You looked up at him.
“How to shoot dummy.” He smirked. “Here.” He placed the ball in your hands and showed you where to hold it. He moved you a little closer to the hoop for safe measure and demonstrated what you should do. It took a few tries, but eventually the ball made it into the hoop.
“See? You’re not that bad.” He flashed you a quick gummy smile. “Let me know if you need help with anything else.” He said leaving just as quietly as he came in.
Hoseok
“Hey there good looking.” Hoseok said as you sat down next to him.
“Oh hush.” You say back lightly hitting him. “I can’t believe I have to sit next to you in another class.” You shook your head.
“Your so mean to me.” He gasped, hand grasping his chest. “Too bad you love me too much.”
“Yeah too bad.” You rolled your eyes. Hoseok was in a few of your classes. Though to the outside eye it might look like there’s bad blood between you two he was one of your closest friends and you were happy he had to suffer through all this with you. He made class actually somewhat interesting, mostly by never shutting up and talking to you the whole time, mostly through text. Professors hated him because even though he never paid attention he always answered their questions correctly. It was a superpower.
“So you admit it you do love me!” He said hugging you.
“Get off me loser.” You said pushing him off you. A few minutes after class started your phone buzzed.
For real tho you look amazing today ❤️

My Fannish Year 2018
I have been doing these ‘My Fannish Year’ reviews since 2012 with the exception of 2016 and 2017 when I dropped the ball for some reason – but I am back on it now! These are fun and also great to look back later; just little stops to look back to my fandom year, reflections, as is suitable for this time of the year… (My previous navel-gazings are from, 2015 , 2014 , 2013  and 2012 .
The rest behind the cut for length:
1. Your main fandom of the year: Number of my fandoms has grown, it seems; I still have my old A Song of Ice and Fire and WWE, especially Dean Ambrose, but now my other notable fandoms are also Black Sails and Outlander.
2. Your favourite film this year: ‘The Shape of Water’ – it impressed me immensely.
3. Your favourite book this year: I have read woefully little, I am ashamed to admit…of the little I read, I found ‘The Treasure Island’ by Robert Louis Stevenson interesting due to its old-fashioned feel.
4. Your favourite album or song this year: ‘Love Me Again’ by John Newman totally blew my socks off.
5. Your favourite TV show this year: ‘The Terror’ and ‘Anne with an E’ (I can say two if I want, it works that way, doesn’t it?)
Tumblr media
6. Your favourite LJ community this year: [Unfortunately this question is pretty much outdated by now… replaced by the next question.]
7. Your favourite Tumblr tags this year: “Dean Ambrose”, “Outlander”, “Black Sails” and still the good old “sansan”.
8. Your best new fandom discovery of the year: ‘The Terror’- although right now I’m also sniffing around ‘Anne with an E’.
9. Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year: Dean Ambrose’s elbow injury that kept him in the sidelines for 9 months… and that ASOIAF’s 6th novel ‘The Winds of Winter’ has still not been released. *sigh*
10. Your TV/movie boyfriend of the year: Dean Ambrose, who else???
Tumblr media
11. Your TV/movie girlfriend of the year: Anne Shirley-Cuthbert (from Anne with an E)!
Tumblr media
12. Your biggest squee moment of the year: Going to Monday Night Raw live event in Los Angeles, happily coinciding with my business trip there…
13. Your most missed old fandom: Not fandom but platform, LiveJournal – although I know there is no way back and it will never be the same again. I also miss earlier more optimistic days of Game of Thrones fandom, when the TV-series had just started.
14. Your fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? Can’t say there is one – if I ‘want to’, I’ll just jump right in!
15.Your biggest anticipation of the New Year: I’m sure I have said this every year – but it still is the release of ‘The Winds of Winter’ by George RR Martin. And to hopefully see Dean Ambrose turning face again – his heel arc is not my favourite…
16. Your Writing or Art (if applicable):
16.1 Total Words/Artworks: Approx. 163,000 words.
Most of my writing has been for one fic only, which has really taken all my energy and effort but has been (and still is) an absolute hoot to write!
(December 2017 -) January: ‘In the Quiet of the Night, Candour’ – an Outlander fic about a quiet moment between Jamie Fraser and Lord John in the Fraser’s Ridge (9,256 words)
February – December: ‘This Time, We'll Do Better’ (154,335 words) – and still going…
The rest of these questions all have the same answer with minor variations, as I only had limited writing to choose from… but I list them just the same, in case if you want to use this same template and can respond better.
16.2. Your favourite own work of this year: ‘This Time, We'll Do Better’
16.3. Most fun work chapter to create: Chapter 3 ‘Lady Sansa’ of TTWDB was a riot – that’s where Sansa first finds herself in Joffrey’s court but thinks it is all a big hoax and reacts accordingly, lashing her tongue at Sandor, Joffrey and Cersei!
16.4. Your sexiest work chapter: Very little sexy times so far in my fics…so as a fleeting moment, maybe in Chapter 36 ‘The Pact’ the moment when Gendry submits to Arya to preserve the order in the pack, and Arya bites him...
16.5. Your work chapter with the single sexiest moment/element: As above. Geez, I better start writing more risque stuff and soon!
16.6. Your work chapter that shifted your own perceptions of the characters: Again, oddly enough, it is Gendry in Chapter 28 ‘Wolf Dreams’. I started to see him as his own man, not only an extension or ‘accessory’ to Arya. I realised he had his own dreams, own aspirations and would be capable of driving his own life. Power to Gendry!
16.7. Your hardest work chapter to create: Chapter 29 ‘Lion Defeated’ was hard, as in it tried to describe Jaime’s despair in finding himself paralysed; his seven stages of grief, anger at Brienne and all that – I am still not sure how successful it was, but I tried my best.
17. Best story(ies)  you read this year: My fanfic reading this year has been quite varied, between ASOIAF, Black Sails, Outlander and The Terror. Some of the best stories I have found in Black Sails fandom – it has lots of amazing writers with a wonderful command of language, moods and subtlety. To mention a few, ‘Any Port in a Storm’ series about Captain Flint/John Silver by Farasha and ‘The Unquiet Grave’ about Thomas Hamilton & John Silver by Belewitts. From ASOIAF, ‘Who Tells Our Stories’ about Arya Stark/Jaime Lannister yes, really!) by lifeofsnark and ‘and love is not a victory march’ about Ned Stark/Catelyn Tully by SomeEnchantedEve. Just to mention a few!
18. The sexiest story(ies) you read this year: ‘and into what it will be changed’ about Captain Flint/Miranda Hamilton/Thomas Hamilton by sea_changed (foxlives). Sexy and tender threesome.
19. The story with the single sexiest moment you read this year: ‘I felt like I could be made new again’ about Brienne of Tarth/Jaime Lannister by janie_tangerine – sizzling!
20. The story you read this year that shifted your own perceptions of the characters: ‘Who Tells Our Stories’ by lifeofsnark made me realise what an unusual but fascinating pairing Arya and Jaime could be, post canon, when they both are changed; Arya grown harder, Jaime more principled – and both very disillusioned. How fascinating!
21. The best fandom artwork you have seen this year: Mimmunet’s artwork ‘Captain Flint from Black Sails’ – it is absolutely gorgeous!
Tumblr media
22. Biggest Disappointment: I Continuing decimation of ASOIAF and sansan due to GoT show influence…!
23. Biggest Surprise: That I found my groove again for writing – I thought my writer’s block had become real and that I wouldn’t find the same inspiration for it as I had done before – but then with TTWDB it all came back to me. A pleasant surprise, for sure!
24. Your fanfic or profic goals for the New Year: To continue and finish TTWDB. Interestingly, when browsing through my earlier ‘My Fannish Year’ entries, I found this entry in this section from 2015: “I also have harboured plans and worked on an outline of a bigger ASOIAF story involving also other characters than sansan. This is the first time I aim to really plan all of it carefully – which may mean that it actually never gets written… *sigh*”. It took a few years, but I guess I did it!  :- )
25. I'd like to thank the academy... (Thanks to your betas, frequent commenters/supporters, the people who stayed up with you late...) I have had wonderful interactions with my old and new friends over the year, most in Tumblr, thank you all! Any list is bound to be incomplete but just to mention a few, I would like to especially thank (again…) @asimplylucia  @thefeatherofhope , @bluecichlid , @zip00198704 , @thedropletsparkled@hardlyfatal , and a special shout-out to my wonderful and patient beta, @hardlyfatal!
I would like to tag all of you to do this, no matter if you write or do art or neither, if you want to look back into your fandom year. Please do and share!

There will be blood. ~ Dark!Lucien
I danced with a million devils. Died from a life of sin.
The thick, dark red liquid slowly oozed out of the incision made by the metallic blade clutched in a steady palm, sapphire eyes watching the beauty of the art, lips running across sensitive skin. Lucien released a strained groan, muffled by the quivering flesh, mouth painted crimson as he pulled back and parted his lips to give a smile that would freeze the bones of Death himself.
‘Blood,’ he purred, one long delicate finger lifting the chin of his victim who whimpered, the scream tore from their throat when he removed their vocal cords. ‘Blood is so pretty don’t you think?’ Lucien laughed as irises dancing with terror and desperation met his own blank stare, lips twitching further.
‘Blood is the essence of life, and death is just the beginning. I’m just setting you free, love. Just releasing you to a better world…’ Lucien whispered as the fragile body struggled against his own, the exquisite razor-sharp edge of his knife grazing the pulse point. Thump… thump… thump… The heartbeat, his foot tapping, intermingled, as one…. Faster and faster, closer and closer, and then a slight pause in the beat, as an ominous noise, a screeching, scraping sound echoed through him, a sound that sent every one of his advanced five senses shivering…tingling in excitement. ‘Come now. I told you. I’m not the one who wants to hurt you. I want to help you… you’re limited, you’re full of restrictions and sentiment.’ He sighed in almost disappointment, his own gaze full of insanity, pallid features remotely calm despite the hand clenching the black handle of the knife which glinted in the moonlight, its bloodthirsty point still browsing, contemplating on whether to deliver its judgement.
The immediate death sentence.
Though two questions ran through his mind. Had his prey had enough and did he want to finish this game? Apparently, he did for the blood crusted metal winked, as he drove the blade down, and he felt the thud of the last beats of the heart as the creature withered and died before him, the lights leaving those eyes. Doorways to the soul so some said. Lucien wasn’t sure what to believe, though the weight on his shoulders lifted leaving him with a different perspective. ‘Pity,’ Lucien hummed, dragging his tongue across the gorgeous piece of artwork. The engraved silver tasting of salt and ecstasy, looking as though if it might cleave atoms, the hilt burnished black with intricate engravings.
It was one of his own creations and he only used it for special occasions because it was comprised with very thin wafers of ebony wood, unique in appearance, the end of the handle concealing an emerald. Said to be the eye of the defender of truth. It was the most attractive of his weapons, and the graceful arc of glinting steel winked again, this time at him. ‘Alas, such a pity.’ All lives ended, and there was no remorse, only the buzz of adrenaline, truly feeling alive in death, by executing those remaining. At times he swore he could feel his blood burn but that was most likely his imagination. He was cold, callous and dead after all.
Made love to a million angels. Murdered a million men.

Ok tumblr is messing around with me now and I have no idea if the first message sent but I read all my tags and I really do love seeing yours on my art
LISTEN. ARTIST.
I TRIED.
BUT DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TAG LIMIT ON TUMBLR OF ONLY 30 TAGS.
HOW DO YOU. HOW. DO YOU EXPECT ME TO WRITE EVERY THOUGHT AND IMPRESSION I HAVE OF YOUR…YOUR….BREATHTAKING. BEAUTIFUL. MAJESTIC. ABSURDLY GORGEOUS AND INSANELY STUNNING ART.
IN ONLY 30 TAGS?!?!!?!?!?!?!??!?!
*sHRIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK*
I would add here the gif of the bird SCREECHING but I don’t want to scare or spam you aklsjdfkladjglakdjaldkj
OKAY. LISTEN. I’M GOING TO CALM DOWN BEFORE BECAUSE…IT’S NOT. I MEAN IT’S NOT EVERY DAY THAT YOU GET SENT AN ASK FROM A
S  T  A  R
AKLSDJFLKDAJGLKDAJFDALKGJALKGAD
(Imma- Imma go on under the keep reading, yes? I just, I just DIDN’T HAVE ENOUGH TAG SPACE, I WANT TO KEEP GOING HERE)
Okay, oKAY, I want to freak out because HOLY FUCKING SHIT, IT’S AN ARTIST THAT GETS THOUSANDS OF NOTES PER ARTWORK, IT’S THE GENIUS BEHIND THE PROMPTO AND NOCTIS QUOTING MEWTWO COMIC, THIS IS A SUPERSTAR, FAMOUS DIVINE ARTIST WITH ANGEL HANDS THAT DRAW PHENOMENAL ART, IN MY GARBAGE LANDS AND TALKING TO ME, I’M FREAKING OUT, EVERYBODY CALM DOWN
But I’m gonna try to STAY STILL AND KEEP IT COOL, because I don’t want to creep you out and to keep this relatively in order instead of making THE MESS OF A 3-PAGES LONG RANT OF YELLING AND SCREAMING BECAUSE HOH MY GOD YOU’RE TALKING TO ME AKLSDJLAKDJGADLKGJDA I DIE
So first of all!
I’m sorry it took me so long to reply. The week’s been sorta messy and busy since friday ahah, so even though I did have time to answer to your ask, I wanted to do it only after I had added the tags. You know, just to let you know that I did. And…to not give you more work or so you don’t browse through your thousands of reblogs, here is the link...it’s not much, I filled my 30 tags too quick and barely started saying something, but just to let you know that I did. Heh. ;w;
Okay, I just got attacked by a sudden GIANT WAVE OF SHYNESS, but I’m still going to say the tings I have in mind and want to tell you hnhgnhg
Thank you so much for reading my tags. Thank you immensely for taking the time to do that, really. I know how Tumblr can be so deadly quiet, and how most of the people who reblog (IF they reblog) put nothing in the tags, a few tag general stuff, and there’s only comments in 1 or 2 reblogs. I say this not to credit myself, it’s not that. It’s just that, with the quantity of reblogs you get, and you saying that you check them ALL out…well, thank you.
I know it can be tiringto check reblog after reblog and see nothing over and over again. Anyone else would just give up and stop checking because no one says anything. So thank you for taking the time to check not just my tags, but everyone else’s, despite it not always turning as you may wish ;w;
Also, thank you so much for taking the time to write to me. You didn’t need to. It’s too much of me to ask from artists to tell me if they want me to add comments or not. It even sounds rude, “YOU contact me if you want to know what I think about your art”. Gee. It can come off as rude and not right…but I think you understood me. And for that I’m immensely grateful.
Thank you for reading my tags, and thank you even more for dropping by to tell me you did. For each 7 artworks I reblog asking if they’re seeing the tags, 1 replies. In this case, it was you. and I’m so hyped about it, you have no idea. Thank you so much
Aaah, also, no other ask of yours made it in. This is the only one I had, so no worries. And even if a million had made it in, no worries! It’s so insane that you took the time to write to me once, AND stayed to make sure it sent? That’s so sweet of you, it really is so kind, thank you so much for worrying about that and being so attentive… ;w;
Oh no, this is getting so long, but I’d really like to say more about your art because the tags weren’t enough, seriously…I’m sorry I keep talking aksljdakldjg I’m sorry ;n;
I just wanted to let you know that that comic is brilliant. Genius in every way. Many see just the joke, which is great enough, but seriously, I looked at everything and it’s…insanely mindblowing in the most beautiful way ever. The art itself is GORGEOUS beyond anything I can say. I don’t have words enough and I lack the vocabulary to express how INSANE and stunning your art is, it’s truly…a jewel, but better and prettier.
Your artstyle is gorgeous no matter where you look at. Lineart, colors, textures, anatomy, expressions, there’s literally not a single thing that isn’t BEAUTIFUL. I’m keeping this very short because of how much I’ve written already, but seriously, your art makes my head explode because it doesn’t fit in my mortal brain. It’s so stunning, I have no way to describe it.
You’re FANTASTIC at making comics. I wouldn’t have known you need practice if you hadn’t added that in the tags. I love the flow and I think that it’s everything arranged in a very good way. I don’t know how to word it, forgive a non-native speaker ;n; But like, the way you placed everything where it is, the dialogue boxes and the characters, it all has a nice flow, and nothing looks off. I’m no artist but personally I’d say you’re AMAZING at comics
I’m in love with the expressions you drew, you have no idea. The sequence of Prompto confessing is insanely beautiful due to the load of emotion that it transmits. The joke is great, yes, but your add added it the real weight it needed and MORE. That 4 panel sequence is so GORGEOUS because it transmits and holds within all this pain, this serious sorrow, this huge weight of his identity crisis. Honestly, if you had decided to make it a drama, you’d have nailed it.
And you also nailed comedy FANTASTICALLY!! Which is insane, makin both things work out in such short lapse SUCCESSFULLY? Wow. That takes more than just “drawing pretty”.
What I mean to say is that you’re a complete, phenomenal artist. Visually and emotionally, you draw wonders. You capture emotions, you draw really beautifully, and you’re creative and everything flows.
And basically can I have an autograph aksldjdalkgjadlkgjad
I’ll keep this ask as my autograph because oh m y g o d what were the odds such a giant of an artist wote to me??? :)
SO YEH, I’M SO PROFOUNDLY SORRY AND EMBARRASSED FOR THIS RANT, I UNDERSTAND IF YOU’RE CREEPED OUT KLASJDAKLDGJDAKLGJADGKL I’M DONE I PROMISE AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
But yeh. Thank you again for taking the time to write to me. That talks very niceyly about you as a person, too… ;w;
I hope you’re having a FANTASTIC day!!

Ink - KisaSaku
Idk, I was feeling some KisaSaku lately. Inspired a bit by @artisticsasquatch‘s amazing Tattoo Shop!AU art.
Warnings: Cliche and fluffy.

The bell above the front door chimed, alerting Kisame of a new customer. Automatically his eyes drew to the clock, only to frown when he saw they were already past closing. Dammit, Deidara. He had asked his co-owner to lock the door ten minutes ago.
Leaning back in his chair, Kisame listened more than looked for the blond tattoo artist. When there was no sign of where the younger man had run off to, Kisame resigned himself to dealing with the newcomer. With a sigh, he pushed himself up from his desk before he moved into the mainroom, leaving the piece he had been working on on the tabletop.
A young woman was standing in front of the counter. From her profile, he saw she was eyeing the artwork on the wall with absent interest, her long, pastel pink hair falling down her back in soft curls. Her white playsuit was modest but revealing enough for him to see the smooth skin of her legs and arms were void of color or lines. A first timer.
“If you’re lookin’ to get something, you’ll have to come back tomorrow,” Kisame said. “We just closed.”
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t know.” She looked away from the art on the wall to glance at him as she flashed him a small, apologetic, and almost nervous, smile.
Kisame blinked. It wasn’t often that he lost his words, but the woman before him was downright gorgeous. Her smile, though shy and polite, softened her features, but it was her eyes that drew his notice. They were rimmed with kohl and the most brilliant shade of emerald he could recall seeing. His mouth suddenly felt try.
“Uh,” Kisame said lamely. He swallowed thickly before trying again, “It’s fine. You lookin’ for anything in particular?”
She shook her head. “No, just browsing-.”
The bell chimed again as a man slipped inside the shop. He glanced at them briefly before meandering to the wall on the other side of the entrance to scan the rows of art. Kisame frowned. He should lock the shop before another late night rush came through. People always came in late - and drunk - on Saturday nights and they always had to turn them away. Where was Deidara with the keys?
“Well if you want to come back tomorrow, I can sketch you a couple of pieces,” Kisame offered, returning his attention to the woman. “See what catches your interest.”
She nodded but the smile had vanished from her face. In fact, her entire body language had changed. It was then that he realized her eyes kept flickering to the man that had entered behind her and there was a nervousness about the way she chewed the inside of her lip. Something was wrong.
Kisame eyed the man again. The stranger was well-built but definitely smaller than Kisame. Not that that was surprising. He was well over six feet tall and almost entirely wrapped in muscle. He was intimidating without even trying and downright terrifying when he was. It suddenly seemed so obvious why this pristine princess had walked into his shop.
“Yeah, that would be cool. Thanks,” she said. But there was no enthusiasm in her voice. Only thinly veiled tension.
The man glanced at her again, obviously sensing her pending departure. Kisame knew he had to say something. If he didn’t and he let her walk out those doors, she would end the night as a victim. Whether for the small clutch in her hand or the space between her legs he didn’t know, but in either case, it made his blood begin to boil.
“Dude, can I help you with something?” Kisame suddenly asked before she could turn to leave. His question was innocent enough but his tone was hard and direct.
The kid looked at him abruptly. He blinked in surprise before he shook his head. “Uh, I was just checking out your art.”
“Didn’t you see the sign? We’re closed.”
“Oh,” he said lamely. He briefly glanced at the petite woman before he inched towards the door. “I’ll come back another time.”
Kisame stared him down until he slipped out of the shop and disappeared down the dark sidewalk.
The moment he was gone, the woman closed her eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. Kisame returned his gaze to her, his expression softening in concern. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. She met his gaze as her small smile returned, this time the edges warming with appreciation. “Thanks. I’m sorry for the hassle. He started following me and the light was on and I just didn’t know where else to go…”
“You don’t have anything to apologize for,” he told her when she trailed off. “Do you want me to call the police?”
She shook her head. “No. He’s probably gone by now. I think you scared him off pretty good.” Her smile turned vaguely teasing, causing him to smirk, before she brushed her hand through her hair and half-turned towards the doors. “Anyway, I should get going so you can close up your shop.”
His frown returned as did his concern for her safety. She didn’t look very comfortable leaving the security of the well-lit parlor quite yet and surprisingly he found that he didn’t want her to go yet either. “I don’t mind if you stay a little longer,” he said. “You won’t be in the way.”
Her expression turned quietly hopeful. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah. Just hang out a little longer,” he shrugged nonchalantly. “I’m Kisame, by the way.”
“Sakura.”
He resisted the urge to snort. Of course it was. What else could her name be with features like that? But he kept his thoughts to himself as he turned away to begin cleaning up his work station.
“What’re you doing downtown by yourself anyway?” Kisame asked conversationally. He shot her a brief glance to find she was eyeing his art book on the counter.
“I’m here with some friends,” Sakura said. “Well I was anyway.”
And without pause, she launched into a story about how her school was on break - medical school, he was surprised and impressed to learn - and her best friend insisted on bar hopping. They had a great time until Ino had ditched all their friends by happily jumping into the car of the guy she had been trying to hook up with for three years, too sloshed to remember that going out had been her idea in the first place.
Kisame chuckled at that. He listened to every word Sakura spoke, quickly finding that she was quite witty and her sense of humor was rather twisted but never crass. He didn’t even notice that he had finished cleaning his station and was simply enjoying listening to her talk until he heard the backdoor to the shop slam closed.
Deidara appeared around the corner a moment later. He stopped in the doorway to the backroom when he spotted them. “You doing one more tonight?” he asked.
The smell of ash and smoke reached Kisame’s nose, causing him to frown. That’s where the blond had disappeared to. He decided against chastising Deidara, fully aware that if he hadn’t left the front door unlocked, Sakura wouldn’t have had somewhere to escape to.
“Nah, just hanging out,” Kisame shrugged.
Deidara cocked a brow, but fortunately kept his mouth shut for once. They both knew Kisame never just hung back, unless Itachi, his good friend from high school, came by. Which was quickly becoming less and less as he got more involved with his father’s business.
Deidara eyed Sakura curiously. “You want me to lock up?” he asked Kisame, his eyes never leaving the pretty female lounging in Kisame’s chair.
Kisame quickly shook his head. “I’ll do it.” He was enjoying Sakura’s company and he didn’t want her to feel like they were kicking her out.
The blond shot him another half-surprised, half-questioning look, but he just turned away to cross the room to his own work station.
Sakura hummed thoughtfully as she resumed thumbing through the art book she had swiped from the counter. “Maybe I should get a tattoo. Like a heart or something.” Unintentionally Kisame snorted, causing her to shoot him a look. “What?”
He just shook his head as he failed to hide his smirk. “You’re such a chick.”
“Uh, yeah,” Sakura retorted. Then she turned his book around to show him the picture she had been looking at. “Not like a heart-heart. But like an anatomically correct heart, with the chambers and Coronary arteries and Aortas.”
He followed her finger to the tattoo he had drawn a few months ago of a dagger piercing a bleeding heart. He cocked his brow. “Uh…you sure you want that one?”
She shot him an unimpressed look. “I don’t mean this one exactly, but something like it. Oh, come on, you know what I mean.”
“He does,” Deidara said across the room. “He’s messin’ with you.”
Sakura glanced at the blond before she turned back to Kisame to find he was openly smirking. Slamming the book closed, she raised it like she was going to strike him with it. But her intent was softened by the amused smile tugging on the corner of her mouth.
“I’m kidding, princess,” Kisame laughed. He held up his hands playfully, only lowering them when Sakura put the book down.
“Well what tattoos do you have?” she asked, eyeing the art that was peeking out under his long-sleeved shirt.
Pulling his sleeve out of the way, Kisame turned his arm over for her to see. “Just a couple I got while in the military-.”
“Whoa,” Sakura interrupted.
With great interest, she put the book aside and grabbed his wrist to pull his arm closer to get a better look. Her fingers danced across his skin as she gazed at the colorful art, obvious appreciation in her green eyes. She traced the bold centerpiece, a large Trident of Poseidon with a powerful shark circling the hilt, before she pushed his sleeve further up his arm to see the rest of the work.
Kisame was not a man who blushed by any means. But the intensity of her focus and the delicate strength of her fingertips sent little jolts of pleasure up his arm and made him warm with masculine pleasure. He was quite liking her attentions.
A thump across the room suddenly reminded Kisame they weren’t alone. He chanced a glance at Deidara and found the blond was openly watching them with a blatant smirk on his face. Kisame awkwardly cleared his throat, inwardly praying his embarrassment wasn’t showing on his cheeks, and hesitantly he withdrew his arm from Sakura’s touch.
“Oh, sorry,” she apologized, afraid she had offended him. “That work is beautiful. Did you make it?”
“I drew the traces but Deidara was the one to tattoo it,” Kisame replied.
Sakura watched as he pulled his sleeve down again before she flickered her eyes to the clock and bit her lip uncertainly. Kisame realized a moment too late that he had unintentionally made her feel unwelcome and he stood with her as she took a half-step towards the door.
“Anyway, it’s getting late and I’m sure you want to close up by now,” she said, a little too casually. “Uh, thanks again for…earlier.”
Kisame half-shrugged. “It was nothing. Just glad I could help.”
Sakura smiled before she glanced at Deidara briefly. “Nice to meet you. Hopefully I’ll see you guys around again.”
Then she turned towards the door. Kisame followed her at a slower pace, not really wanting her to leave but at the same time not knowing what to say to make her stay. He was fortunately saved the embarrassment as Sakura suddenly turned around again before she made her exit, her hand on the door handle.
“Can I call you sometime?”
Blinking, Kisame nodded a bit dumbfoundedly. “Uh, yeah. I’m usually here at the shop most days. If you call the front desk, they’ll transfer you over to me.”
Somewhere behind him, Deidara sighed. “You have got to be fucking kidding.”
It was then that Kisame realized what she was asking. “Oh…” he muttered. He just stood there for a moment, completely taken aback as he processed what she was asking and why.
Kisame didn’t think himself bad looking by any means, but Sakura…she was downright gorgeous. She was the type of girl who turned heads when she walked into the room and could make any man lose his train of thought whether she was dressed to impress or in an old pair of sweats. It almost seemed a joke that she would look at him.
“Uhh…yeah,” Kisame stuttered. He hadn’t felt this nervous since high school. What the hell was wrong with him? “Yeah, ‘course.”
A happy smile lit up her face before she pulled her phone out of her small purse and passed it to him. Kisame punched his number in before he passed the device back to her, feeling strangely excited and nervous. It had been so long since the last time he had done anything like this.
“Great!” Sakura said, still smiling. “I’ll talk to you soon then.”
Kisame nodded and muttered an agreement before she slipped out of the shop and disappeared into the night.
He continued to stand in front of the door a moment longer until Deidara snorted behind him. “Call the shop? Really, Kisame?”
Kisame threw him a look that clearly told him to shut up before he headed back into the backroom. The piece he had been working on was still sitting on his desktop, but his motivation to finish it was no longer present. Instead his fingers itched to trace a heart. With all the chambers and Coronary arteries and Aortas.
He was going to need to do some research.
